Not in my opinion anyways. Even using it as a 'get up' ability felt like such a waste of my time. I now just grabbed the Mark of Healing and became a different subclass.
honestly, the other class features kind of feel meh too. and you're kind of limited since you don't get access to a lot of cleric spells
I'll still have healing and such but my subclass won't be revolved around all that.
divine soul sorcerer had a better time of healing and had real access to cleric spells
Sorcerers a fullcaster
^^^ That's a healer! And a pretty fun-looking one at that. My bf loves playing that subclass and it's fun to watch him.
Massive flavor fail on the mage of high sorcery trinkets table
5 A pouch or spellbook emblazoned with the triple moon symbol of the Mages of High Sorcery
Should be a component pouch
2014 twinned and distant casting of cure wounds is solid as heck.
I played it as the primary healer in our party for a campaign, and it was pretty fun
Warlock just sits in its own lane
The natural upcasting with Guiding Bolt is pretty fun in itself
speaking of, I'm highly considering swapping healer for skilled, I just am not getting much use out of it and the rerolls are negligable
with limited spells, I'd say casting guiding bolt feels awful
I never used my valuable spell slots for guiding bolt
When I played Celestial I pretty much only used it on GB
I ignored most of the spells I was given by the celestial.
Fireball continues to be art, and its not even a Celestial spell
I think I'll be more useful with my Mark of Healing feat, the Healer feat for out of combat (or in combat, out of spell slots/options), and Arch Fey subclass (2024).
honestly, I'm just using the normal warlock spells currently
Fireball isn't on the Warlock list tho, it's a Fiend spell
Our cleric can fill in the rest
hunger of hadar and hypnotic pattern are my go tos
oh, I do have a life cleric in my party too, so I'm just functioning as the party doctor and resident controller
We have a Twilight Cleric. I haven't seen anything particularly good from Twilight yet but the extra temps are handy.
My only issues with those two spells are
HoH can screw over other party members and Hypnotic Pattern is a charm which is the most common condition immunity.
I'd say it boils down to experience difference.
I've also got really high spell save dc, since I got a wand of the war mage
I've been having a lot of fun with Tasha's Hideous Laughter because at my level, it upcasts to 3 creatures. But it'll get better as I get higher leveled. As long as they aren't immune to charms.
Also because I can say a terrible pun before using it and that's hilarious.
Which depending on the campaign might be a guaranteed
my party knows I intend to play large aoe spells that dictate parts of the map, luckily 3 of my party members are very good at str checks, so they can keep pushing monsters into the scary spell
looking forward to being able to do similar with Circle of Preservation
Still reading through the player's handbook and scared of find a group to play with, but it got me wanting to play a Paladin so bad I've spent all my day drawing concepts almost non stop
My Celestial lock was in a game where we were often shoulder to shoulder so GB was my go to
I intend to take sickening radiance
Tho Cloud of Daggers sometimes had is place
No save damage is always nice.
I got terribly bored of them, but not due to the subclass
Even if it's not a lot, sometimes damage is damage.
But just my other character choices
Healer feat was useless, my profs were intentionally useless so I wouldn't step on another Cha players toes
I'm excited to teleport all over the place with Arch Fey Warlock rofl
right?! it looks so fun
imagine doing a pact of the blade archfey with a rapier, just play them like a horizon walker
2024 Healer feat has been a godsend for me. Cleric has low spell slots and creatures are incoming 1 minute? I gotchu guys!
I feel bad for my Tuesday dm
Right. Correction. Useless for me in that game.
Cause the other cha caster was a bard and healed as well
That's valid. It's an invocation for me so I can switch out Healer later if I felt like it but it has been so insanely useful for me that I haven't bothered.
would this just fall under the dm's discretion?
And we have a bard and a cleric that both heal. It's still been really useful. Our DMs like going hardcore on us.
I have a pact of the blade archfey with a short bow. It's super fun and a little later on, I'll be able to attack 3 times. I'm so excited for that!
My rogue in my Tuesday game has just been putting in dumb work
oh for sure, this sounds incredibly good
I have like 2 healing kits on standby just in case 🤣
Since I usually land both attacks so I'm doing
1d6 + 6 + 1d4 + 5 + 9d6 per turn usually.
I love having the ability to Craft them
Magic healer? Yes. Mundane healer? Also yes.
er
I want to do beyond the witchlight and make a pact of the tome archfey
No more Hit Die? Long Rest!
come to think of it, that sounds like something only clerics of mystra could do
Oh I'm happy that they have a rep system where I can get a free healing kit from the temple every month since I have a good rep with the temple.
I also make sure that if we short rest, to tell people to save one hit die just in case I have to emergency get them up.
oh dear
We just hit level 14 in my Tuesday game. I'm only one more level away from busting the game in half
I just got dm'd a gif that is unironic gore by someone in this server, how do I report this?
#moderator-support I think
thanks
also real nice that I got sent that like an hour before I go to sleep, that totally ain't gonna mess with my head
that's the person
oh god
that is literally the person that dm'd me the gore
it seems the gif got nuked in my dms too
wonder if it's some type of way to prevent discord from nuking the account
-# super grateful for my aphantasia in times like this
See, I love the flavor of healer but mechanically it's kinda meh
I'm just not really rolling 1s
concerning thing is, both the username and the gif in question had a link
what type of crap are they tryna pull
oop they're still trying it looks like
Just ignore them.
I feel like a mod should be pinged if there's a bot tryna spread literal gore through the server
They've been made aware.
Luckily our boi Themberchaud has an everlasting craving for GIF's
So there's not really a point to discuss whatever is going on with luxe anymore
got it
Heyy does anyone have long distance one shot ideas? Like if you use PowerPoint or something to do the play while on call?
You can do that
Use theater of the mind ( each one imagine everything in a call)
Use pages like DnD beyond//owlbear, roll 20, foundry, etc.
Use some platform that let you build up everything
You can even grab Source and model everything, add animations and let the players play with it
I play online only using Discord for voice and Roll20 as our virtual table top (VTT).
Does it cost money to do?
No. I pay a bit extra to roll20 so that I can upload more images that usual.
But it's very playable without that. I just like to prep far in advance.
Aye nice I appreciate that, that seems a lot easier to do
I'm fond of Crafter. Discount everything possible
Roll20 has a voice application, but no one uses it. Apparently it's really bad.
Bringing a Ladder everywhere
Kinda like having more than 4 proficiencies though
Which class are you that you feel the need for skills?
You carry a good deal yep.
I'm surprised we haven't died with just the three of us, it'd be really nice to have a 4th 😭
If only our FIGHTER was ever present
Except he's in some make believe place
Yeah, whatever a "London" is
I've heard it's a city in the Plane of Water
Sensible
My players were talking to an Orc king about dragons they can slay
They offered one whose only crime is stealing historical artifacts for his hoard.
I played dnd for the first time today and I was a human bard
“His crime is being the British Museum”
“Ah yes we Orcs understand this issue.”
Oh god we got a natural
I know what you are
Me?
Yeah I'm a human bard
guys whats the best monstrosity for druid. I have a rare item that allows me to druid form for that, what should it be? its CR 6 max, pref 5-6
Druids can’t turn into monstrosities
Not without a 9th level spell.
Mimic
Druids turn into animals. 🙂
Yeah they turn into what has the Beast creature type
Polymorph is concentration and you don’t keep your mental ability scores.
Polymorph is also an expensive spellslot.
Plus Druid gets a lot more spells more thematic to Nature too
Really? last session I just turned my party member into a giant ape, no wonder it still took as a while for the encounter
Also with Wild Shape you keep your proficiencies too
Maybe in the later levels druid looks better, but for me I just looked at the first few
Skills, saving throws, etc.
And ability to speak (in 2024)
If you are a Moon Druid you can cast spells while wild shaped too.
Physically speak or?
... Yeah, how else? Lol
Druids aren't telepathic
Plus they don’t need to use a slot (unless they want to) to Wild shape
Hi!
Because they can turn into some insects, though I guess it is DnD and logic isn't really present
Yes. Logic and D&D don't typically mix
It’s magic after all
Hii
You can use some "There is water there so i can maybe make this electric attack spread" but always asking the DM, important to know the DM limits and open mind
D&D, notably isn't a physics simulator
Magic, is also notably, not physics either
Gravity still sure exists though Lmaooo
yep, but still, letting your players "experiment" sometimes feel nice.
Give a "reward" to the creativity. But again, go from dm to dm
yep, i dont try to like, give an "explanation" to some stuff
But some basic things like "oh look, there is a lake and all enemies are in that lake, can i witch bolt it?" and turn into a non save attack but dealing half damage.
Oh look, someone threw a barrel of oil to an enemy, can i fire bolt it?
Etc. etc.
doesnt need to do a GIGA big extra effect, just something lil and its good enough
i wanna start a group in the next few weeks, ill be dming. classic fantasy, please pm if interested
hey im interested! maybe ask on the #looking-for-players chat though
ok thanks! new to this server lol
technically you shouldnt be asking here
oopsie
no worries its all good, ive only been active like a week and have seen a couple people being told off about it
thank you for the advance warning lol
fixed by nystul'ing a creature into a druid
You mean nystuling the creature into a beast?
Also, that's not how wildshape functions.
Since the creature isn't a beast at base, a Druid can't become it anyway
It doesn't matter if you Nystul it into a beast regardless because wildshape doesn't target a beast you see, it's from a selection of beast you can become
damn druids have few selections
Hi! I’m brand new to D&D and I have a Level 1 Fighter on D&D Beyond.
I’m looking for a beginner-friendly game or one-shot.
I’m happy to learn and follow rules.
Check out #find-a-game for instructions for finding a game on the server, and #learn-to-play has some useful resources for learning!
Thank You
Oh sorry for the late response, but yeah there's a rare item that allows it, for 2 uses of wild shape
It's called the mask of monstrous forms
I assume it's homebrew?
Nope
Are you certain?
That's Third Party
I can dm u a screen shot
It's a book
All I was proving is that it wasn't homebrew
Yes, but it's not an official book published by WOTC, which, is fine, so long as your dm allows it
Lol yeah
I was just asking about monstrosities that would be cool
I'm level 18 rn, so I need a cr 6
Hmmm..
CR 5-6 you asked?
Yeah, I already have chimera added, I think it'll be cool
Just fyi, 3rd party is just a fancy version of homebrew. That being said, how about a drider?
I'll see if I can find anything
That one's a possibility
Medusa as well
Anything that isn't official is essentially homebrew, yeah. 3rd party is just usually higher quality.
Oh yeah bulettes would be super fun
I see
Gloomstalkers are giant shadowy bat things that seem pretty cool
I seeee
Fizban's Dragonflesh Abomination is the only CR 6 monstrosity that is huge in size, which might be interesting (apart from a named boar from an adventure)
Aphemias and Banderhobs are also some CR 5 monstrosities and they seem pretty fun
What do y'all think about a chimera
Aphemias have Necrotic resistance, can fly and are immune to charm and fear
I'll check aph
Chimeras are dope. You're almost like a really strange dragon.
I like your pfp Tokii
They also have magic resistance!
(Advantage on spell saves)
I do like Chimeras
Yea it's like a lion, goat and dragon
Nugget, I've had this pfp for ages lmao
And aphemias look cool too
Doesn’t stop me from liking it
Idk why I changed my nickname tbh. Maybe this can be my alter ego…
Ok thanks guys, I'll write em down. Good night
I definitely didn't regnize our resident dadjoker without the name
I did lmao
I can spot nugget from a mile away
Is that a challenge
Hi your diety, I’m Nugget
Yeap...
Thats him
Heya! I'm needing a little bit of advice regarding roleplay!
This Sunday, we have a session where we are doing a flashback to a celebratory party - the session it was supposed to be in was rushed, so we decided to do a flashback to help build interpersonal character relationships!
However, it's just dawned on me that I have absolutely no idea what do to... 😭 I'm really worried it's going to be awkward and not work out!
I'd love some roleplay ideas if possible! Things that can get two characters to interact! I've been brainstorming ideas but would love to see what other people have in mind!
Famous last lines of supplicants when they finally meet their god.
Then I will die doing what I love
I don't kill my followers, it's not really whimsical
Well, what's your character like?
Ball session!
Just so I can understand the situation a bit better. Are you the DM or one of the players here?
I'm a player!
Hi a player, I’m Hi, I’m Nugget.
I punish you to dance for 24 hours straight.
My character is a tabaxi rogue, she's a little standoffish but wants to be friends with the other party members! She currently has a negative opinion on one character due to a lore drop, and she's already close friends with one of the player characters (my irl partner)
She's cheeky, childish, and likes to play tricks on people!
But yeah, ball sessions, beach episode, or maybe even a light goblin hunt works. Or a trek up a mountain to the sunlight.
Ope prank war!
Well, some ideas:
- Say something in a (non-Common) language that your character speaks. If someone else also speaks that language, they'll certainly pick up on that!
- Many character abilities can be used to do party tricks, such as Prestidigitation, or a high acrobatics score. Performance would certainly also be useful.
- Since you're a rogue, you could start doing "got your nose" type stuff for people.-
You could also steal someone’s heart
You may choose whether or not to interpret this literally
Well.. as funny as it sounds, when playing her, really try to embody her!
Forget your fears and just have fun! That's what I do
I know it's not that easy for everyone, but try to envision yourself in the characters shoes!
Oh wait you’re not a player…
If you're unsure about roleplaying, I also encourage you to do descriptive roleplay instead of active roleplay. So "My character says:...." instead of "I say..."
This still works!
They are a player
-# that’s what I meant to say…
I need to sleep more
Or maybe it’s too hot today
Lmao
Thank you!! These are awesome suggestions 🙏
Regardless, Envy, friend! I wish you well in your endeavors, and I believe you'll do great!
The DM will probably also come up with stuff that people can do together.
If you're nervous, you could always try casual conversation and just play it in character
You don't have to go and over perform your heart out, either (unless you wanna)
Just always remember the number one rule of dnd have fun
Hello
Hey! 👋🏻 I have a human Warlock and I’m thinking of giving him a kind of German name, or at least something that sounds similar. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Well actually that's number 2 number one is never split the party
What era of Germany
How does one find people to play with
Leopold
Thx!
If you need a surname, you could do something like "von Rabenland" which approximately means "from the land of the raven"
My German teacher at school was Jotta Feuerstein which always sounded very dramatic
I mean you could always go with Heinz guderian
Oh!
Speaking of warlocks, my Drow Warlock and his group fought an Evil Warforged known as "Glaive" we decided to handle her non-lethally and knock her out.
We took her Dossit out of her body and plan on returning her to her people for rehabilitation after we question her...
All because my Warlock believes anyone can be a good person as long as they actually try lmao
A warlock with a kind soul, a rarity from my experience, I approve
He's a Celestial Warlock of Eilistraee
Ah they would not get along great old one warlock of thazdion
He's compassionate because he views the Warforged in a similar light as his own people and understands their pain to a degree
We also put some Wights to rest, they weren't hostile, but they were stuck in the mourning lands, so we took them out so they could finally pass on as well..
Also my Warlocks idea lmao
I mean if you have a bag of holding
I think I’ll go with that, thanks!
So… what do you all think about… trumpet sounds
Leopold von Rabenland VI ?
The only creatures he won't sympathize with are Demons.
Warforged don't require air or food so like
Not the warforged lol
Wights. Undead individuals
Oh ok yeah no they don't count
Sounds fancy! Quite royal
If you want to write out "IV" just for the giggles, you could do the entire
Leopold von Rabenland der Vierte!
Just kinda returning them to the earth
I have a ranger that only deals piercing and force (huters mark) damage. How can I get some other damage going? Are there blunt and broadhead arrows for bludgeoning and slashing damage?
They didn't attack us, we spoke to them and they were friendly, so I agreed to try and help them pass on non-violentky by taking them away from the place they were trapped
And they did pass, crumbled to dust.
In life, they were soldiers trying to do a job, but their airship crashed and they died, and so did their beautiful city :<
There aren't unfortunately. You'd need to homebrew bludgeoning arrows.
Ah that's fair enough good on ya for trying to run peaceful as much as possible
(though to be fair, b/p/s damage is equivalent in nearly all cases)
Those pesky skeletons
How would that typically look? Like, I snap the arrowheads off and tadaaaaa: blunt arrows.
Well, that'd be up to you and your DM, but I imagine you add some sort of blunt tip.
Maybe fire arrows?
Uh they wouldn't fly properly because arrows are one of the few things that are designed to be well weighted that way
He even spared a Lolthite Drow and gave him a chance to escape her tyranny by offering him a way and home in Sigil, and he accepted the deal
are fire arrows in the game or are those home brew too?
Ah and du'kurn was used to try and summon and elder god
He doesn't want to kill fellow Drow, because he has nothing but love for his people, he specifically just really hates Lolth lmao
His family’s anything far from royalty or nobility. They just liked the name so much for it to continue 6 generations! 😂
So you can see why he wasn't so keen on keeping his fellow man alive
Idk
I'd handwave that
They can be common magic items if that's what it takes
I see, very good 😌
Honesty yeah I'd say that but like irl arrows are made in such a specific way
Like one of my arrow heads was bent and well it caused my arrow to fly wrong
Ok so here's my idea then. I propose blunt arrows by snapping the tip off, letting them deal half damage but blunt and only fly half as far as normal arrows. I'll see if the DM buys that.
I get you, but I will always point at the rules text in the DMG that says "D&D doesn't do physics"
So if a fantasy book could do it, so can D&D.
Sovis' (my fellow) young sister was killed by a Balor in the streets of Menzoberrenzen, that's when he realized how uncaring Lolth was because if her demons weren't wandering the streets, his sibling would've still been alive, so he sought a shrine of Eilistraee for help
Honesty fair they went 2 paths for the same goal
Yep, also homebrew. Grim Hollow added a bunch of that stuff.
Sovis wants an end to Lolths tyranny, a goal that is way beyond him as a singular person, but he'll do anything to further that goal and that's kinda just.. why he's been showing compassion throughout the Multiverse in this campaign lol, trying to gather more allies to his cause so his people can live in peace and safety with other peoples
He used tharizdun the god they tried to summon to gain power in exchange for an eye and ofc his eternal soul
Grim hollow also has bludgeoning arrows in. They have half range and make a load of noise.
How would your DM feel about a warlock who became God joining the fight against lolth lol
Hey, since my guy’s a warlock, and the wiki (5e, btw) says “Through pacts made with mysterious beings of supernatural power, warlocks unlock magical effects both subtle and spectacular.”
What being/entity do you guys think it could’ve been for him to gain his magic?
That usually depends on the pact you made / plan to make at level 3.
Each pact gives some suggestions as to what the entity might be.
Crap…
I just made this guy! 😰 he’s lvl 1.
I dunno, but Sovis definitely doesn't want Deityhood, as much as he wants to protect his people like Eilistraee does
Oh I meant du'kurn he kinda killed his lolth and took her power
That's fine, so I'd look ahead to level 3 and see what options are available, then extrapolate from there.
(assuming you play with the 2024 rules).
There are various patrons, just think of a concept and we can probably find one that could fit
I do.
Alas, Sovis is far from killing gods
Fair enough
He is level 14 though 🧐
Based on the pact you plan to take, you could already think about how your character approaches their power. Have they found some hidden tomes of their future patron and gleaned their first spellcasting abilities from there? Or have they already met their patron and were promised future power?
We're facing ||Strahds death house|| next week lmao (This is an Eve of Ruin Campaign, btw)
The dm has done so much to improve and make it actually challenging and a compelling story, so it's a little homebrewed lmao
If y'all are having fun that's what's important and unlike adventure league it won't be a different group every time or maybe not every but ya know the homebrew can at least be learned
How do u guys play dnd
- Tell my friends that I will run a session
- Gather at session time
- Roll dice, have fun
Yuh so about that my friends don’t like dnd so uh
Well, there are lots of online places where you could find likeminded people. You can start with #find-a-game
Manipulate them into getting into it/j
You can also look around if you have any local game shops, if you want to meet in person.
Tell them you wanna party and have fun but when they show up throw the PCs at them
Yuh I do need to go out more anyways
They often host games, or know people that do.
If your wanting DND specific and you have Facebook you can look up DND shops and the ones near you should pop up first
I'm looking for some players keen to get rolling dice right now! (For a one shot)
But I'm not allowed to post in looking for players for another week 😑
Any ideas on where to ask around to see if anybody's looking for a DM?
Hmm
Look around in #looking-for-dm
I have been haha the most recent 15ish posts are all 3am right now 🤣
Oof
Ah my time zony
what permission or role i need to get access to this looking-for channel?
ouh
It’s detailed in #find-a-game
thank you, probably misunderstood or miss that part when reading it
uh this isnt 100% DnD but regarding frieren how similar does anyone think the anime is to DnD? (if u dont know feel free to ignore this)
can you use quickened spell more than once in a turn?
You only have one bonus action, so effectively no
nope
what does quickened spell even do ?
unless you somehow get more bonus actions
does it act as a second attack?
it lets you cast a spell as a bonus action
so it is a second attack (essentially)
No
it can be depends on what you cast
Still no, spells aren't all attacks
I wish there was a general LFG chat lol having everything be post based only really works for players who want to play long term and only need to gather a group once
ok fair enough
Feel free to suggest it to #server-feedback
youre being too specific spell attacks are still a thing
i think i might have read that wrong
But even then, some spells have multiple attacks inside of them, so the comparison works even less.
Fire bolt and power word heal-
i read it wrong
ah, no worries
Is it wrong that I had a ancient red dragon enchant every page of a book with the spell meteor swarm
thats just funny
well though ideally its what you'd do
Depends on the context really.
it does depend but
If a player said this to me out of nowhere, I'd laugh and say "no".
The party just killed it and are asking about its hoard
in a regular scenario where you're fighting sirens or whatever
goblins/sirens/slime bois
how many pages are in this book
100
out of curiosity u seem like the kind of person that watches anime
are u?
Mildly random

Not really (read manga though). Does this have to do with D&D?
this sounds like youre a witch hunter asking if theyre a witch
god everything in that 40 foot space is just gone now
Oh it's hoard contains other stuff just this was the dragons way of basically you may have killed me but you ain't gonna make it out alive it's trigger is if it gets taken off it's shelf
i was wondering what people think of frieren to dnd but it doesnt seem like anyones watched it
And the book will be the only one glowing to the artificer he has goggles that let him see magic powers think a scouter from dbz
its only like what? 4000 d6?
Frieren was clearly inspired by ttrpgs such as D&D
Hey guys
2 mage 1 vanguard
2000
How are you all
@hot gate can i pingu? ( just checking)
But yeah only way to survive that is basically prayer
more people who play dnd should watch it
I don't care for the art style
I'd prefer if you not, unless I'm clearly not in the chat.
20 d6 fire and 20 d6 bludgeoning am i wrong?
Also you already ping on a reply if you don't turn off the ping, you don't also need to @
anyways on a side note im just going to confirm this outright a priest is the male counterpart to a cleric?
No bludgeoning just 20 d6
You can ping me tho
Clerics are certainly the closest D&D gets to your standard fantasy priest, I agree
@unborn lotus x20 /j
No it's not a cleric isn't gendered a cleric is more commonly spiritual than a priest
Cleric is not a gendered word
faints
So there's no male counterpart... Historically clerics could only be men in some religions
Ah they changed it my bad I was wrong so yes 40k
never understood why wizard is a gendered word
Clerics aren't always men
defo not me thinking of the handmaids tale
anyways
Right so y'all are confusing witches and wizards not everything has that distinction
so priests are more phys and clerics are more spiritual
To a extent yeah
i know the difference between a wiz sorc and warlock owo
But when it comes down to it they both speak for God's
Read my other message and what I'm replying to for context 🤣
In D&D? They're different classes.
although im ngl the coolest imo is a sorc
In what context? They're interchangeable words in history. Both English terms for religious leader used sometimes synonymously and sometimes by specific orders
altho druid is a fun second
yk @stark tundra a bit of help please?
🆘
according to kane not me
Are you guys talking about a different game or something 🤣
Ok so if referring to IRL yes they can be used interchangeablely and clerics are commonly known as the ones who travel while priests have a flock
Priests don't exist as a class in D&D, Clerics are a D&D class... Priest might be an NPC statblock? In that context it's just a statblock for a religious character. NPCs don't have classes
Think mormans
Not to my knowledge? Cleric is short for clergyman which generally means priest. Religious folk who travel would generally be called missionaries
Priests aren't a class in DND but if a cleric wants to retire and say they become one for a town dms allow it commonly as long the god they worship has a temple
uhm
Morman clerics are called priests, and travelling Mormons are missionaries 😅
But I think this server doesn't allow discussion of specific religions 😬
I've been warned for it before for some reason lol
what happens if the temples are destroyed?
Commonly they rebuild and do that for the future
Yeah absolutely, you can use the word priest to mean head of a church 👍
And it could for sure be the retirement plan of a cleric adventurer
and i thought that was the pope
Haha yeah I guess head of the entire Catholic church
Right so y'all learned about the first half of my name now to learn the second Kane is a priest of Thor was at one point called the Taser of the grey dwarf
I should have phrased it "local leader of a single church"
yk what surprises me most
sorcs and clerics arent grouped into the same
Is it a Warhammer name?
Hey! Just joined the server. Hope you’re all doing well
kane is the name of an MC in a minecraft series im currently watching
Ah fun
A level 20 character gets their wrath
Close Kane was level 8 when he retired
Welcome! We're happy to have you
lmao ?
😕
Level 8 you can still walk into a room a banish anyone who destroyed your temple.
He only retired because he reached 230
Yeah you gotta watch out, we were just discussing some priests are retired adventurers 🤣
what is their wrath?
And I always head cannoned that those last 20 years is when a dwarf ages
or does that depend on the deity
apparently elves live for more than millenia
Like a Saiyan
Well when you retire that pc is now dms to play npc. So if you wanta come along with new pcs and play ima destroy that temple. Best believe a wrath can come along with it.
Thanks!
Hi all! I just joined the server, I'm a bit experienced as a DM with the D&D 2014 system and sorry if my English isn't always good, I use a translator.
Elf's are effectively immortal
Welcome!
If you want to play in your native language I'm pretty sure there's a lot of language specific D&D discords!
long living doesnt = immortal
yk whats always bugged me though
What are you looking to get up to here? Community and rules questions? Or are you wanting to join games?
Yeah but when your race can reach 1000 with ease
With level 18 druid that elf can live 10,000 prolly
their considered an endangered species and at risk of extinction
Yeah exactly
Thank you! I prefer to be sure to be on the official server even if it means working on my English.
Also think about it this way if you had 900+ years to learn stuff you'd learn to be sneaky
also its not exactly like elves are the most social thing
What edition?
I'm guessing 5e
uh 2024?
I thought elves did get an intelligence bonus in 2014 5e
Wood elfs get pass without trace feat.
And in 2024 there are no racial stat changes
Exclusive to wood elfs
their highest stat still looks like dex on dndbeyond?
Species doesn't affect your intelligence
As in a statblock?
After Tasha's no
Yeah he specifically said 2024
oh so it isnt my dwarfs brutal nature that makes him charge headfirst into everything like an idiot
yippee (yes)
It can be haha
But he could have a very gentle natured Dwarf father
The point is that your species doesn't determine how good you are at something or what your like
reflects on self jumping down into a 5v1 as an overconfident mage
Sucker punches are sometimes the fight enders.... they are the worst ones. Thats why ya dont let no one in your bubble.
if by sucker punch u mean aoo then i can see this lmao
I'm not sure where you found an elf statblock there isn't an official one 🤣
If someone proposes, why not do sessions. I'm not very familiar with the lore of the forgotten realms so why not and some DM tips or learn more about everyone's house rules to add them to my table. And maybe I could turn to a software to make the maps.
So could be a intelligent way to charge in. Knowing to throw that first punch to a inevitable fight
There's Drow warriors, or possibly an elf-something from an obscure book I'm not aware of
But there definitely shouldn't be a statblock for an elf in general
can u get aood for moving out of melee?
You might be looking at fan stuff
That was the first time I ever went down
LMAO
True story
i feel like its common tho
its not exactly like you have many aoe options at level 1
glares at magic missile with 2d6+3
I said legit in session as a beginner "hold on I have a idea. Dm can I move my ally back 5 feet?" Turn to the ally "you cool with that I dont want you in the way" he said sure. So I then proceed to move him 5 feet back and get downed for the first time by a clockwork rhino or something idk lol.
Idk it was some sort of mechanical bull lookin thing
Clockwork rhino or metal beast
But we survived lol. Still learned my lesson
metal beasts at level 1 doesnt sound appealing
Was it a Gorgon? That's a metal bull
We weren't lebel 1
Whats the subclass for rouge that lets you cast spells called?
It was something clockwork cant remember
Arcane
Arcane trickster
what label were u
Arcane trickster
Im bad baby thats how my mommy made me
and i crave peace and quiet
also i want a big owl as a familiar
gazes off into the distance with mage thoughts
Prolly 4 or 5
still relatively newb
Yeah I mean we started level 4 but yeah was definitely a newbie lol.
Back in my tryna recruit wolves being a druid days lol
stares
lies down on back and gazes off into the night sky
why does it seem like a funny idea to me send off red fireworks in the middle of nowhere
even though i know that red flares are for sos
is it just me or does any other mage feel like their thoughts are a bubble of complication that no one else can understand except potentially another mage?
Mages famously don't understand each others thoughts, it's what makes copying spells so difficult
yes
u remind of fern always arguing with frieren lmfao
Anime.
dnd related
Oh I misread what this meant
Is it?...
yes]
If it uses the term mage it's either ancient or not D&D
although im curious what would have happened if they managed to tame the crystal turtle
even tho its a dungeon boss
would have been funny but it probably would have been my first thought
Mage is a word that you can use in dnd too
mage is just more general no
Yes
cant belive it took me that long to formulate a simple arguement
I sometimes use mage instead of of caster when making dialogue, or just in conversation
mage sounds cooler im ngl
on a side note it feels like my head and my heart swapped places because my head feels like throbbing every 5 seconds
It was a class up until third
Yeah lots of people. But they may not all be ready to chat D&D with you right now.
ohhh
But if you bring up a D&D topic, folks might join in and respond
I'm happy to chat D&D 😅
Hi, I’m Hi, I’m Nugget.
You just need to actually ask something haha
Or to propose a conversation dnd related
how you are
ok
🤖 sus
Thats what i thought
do ya all run with or without illnesses that can affect characters
i.e food poisoning,headache,hypothermia,heat exhaustion?
Sometimes. Trying to camp on top of a mountain the environment is a risk.
Mundane nuisances are an opportunity for whoever has Medicine proficiency to get a character moment with you.
Why is your class better than the other classes?
?
Hm?
Because it's classy /jk
I actually am not tagged by a class because moderator and I like all classes.
because i am the chosen one
my other 2 braincells : in ur dreams/j
Me:Because my class is underrated and doesnt try to do anything flashy but stands out anyways
Monk, clearly!
Because, um, bonk. Except you don’t need any fancy schmancy spells or some weapons to do it
But we know you have a secret bias (tell us!)
I feel like monks just have spells with extra steps
Every party needs a bard
ignore the 10 tsunamis in the background
I really don't but I do enjoy a good fighter build
Oh it's Xi power? Getouttahere
I wouldn’t call punching 5 times in one turn a spell
or the fireball above ur head
Not, If they they a cleric ✨
Nor extra steps
At the first session of my dnd game I got so annoyed by this kobold I was begging to be allowed to kill him
Nah, I see both. Bards are more reminiscent of rogues in the sense they have focus on out of combat imo
Magic Initiate
what kind of class did you like guys
the ones that dont give me a headache
Monk!
which one
Bard
because i am the chosen one
my other 2 braincells : in ur dreams/j
Me:Because my class is underrated and doesnt try to do anything flashy but stands out anyways
ignore the 10 tsunamis in the background
or the fireball above ur head
the big owl here is for mental health purposes
it makes me feel cool and comfy
@unborn lotus
nice
the one that makes me have thoughts that even i dont understand but it seems cool
My bard is more built to be support until I can access some good damaging spells
class name
and the ones that fire off magic or make a scene without intending to
So wizards
sorc/druid/ranger
Wild magic sorcerer
what did you like in this class
Wizards require an intelligenc build
natural talent
Is ranger magic innate?
not necessarily but its cool
Is it the same as druids, connection to nature
all of the above and fighter although fighter is still entering
big owl procceeds to grab me and take it to its nest
character: oi Valerie
oi where are u taking me
ohh yeahh
defo not me thinking of a name for a tawny owl
i wanna call it brownie but no
ok lets call it that
what
(its my familiar)
okie
(which i have some control over)
(excluding the random times when it decides to fly off with me to god knows where)
thats good
(at least the landings are gentle)
really
When we host special D&D events, we may use the stage. The community managers can share video and present to the community.
have ya all ever had scenarios where a familiar just kidnaps a party member randomly
like out of sight to god knows where
One of the best things to come from 2024 is the new icons
Good gravy the 2014 class icons were so bad
These are gorgeous

no, but this kobold party member of ours keeps sneaking to god knows where 😭
How the hell did a Familiar have the strength and movement speed to kidnap someone out of sight 😭
we have a leash for him
That's bad news
You have a spy
split the party into 3(?) groups
Oh boy wait till you hear this
a decapitated wizard is living inside of his mind I think, talking to him sometimes
if i was in this situation my owl would come and peck the party within an inch of their life until they released the leash
not on my command tho
by instincts
Is your owl a familiar? 🤣
yes
You can control it
what's funny was when me and another guy tried to regroup with the others, we encountered a large bat that ended up taking an ~hour to defeat
it has a mind of its own
Also minmaxer 😒
trust me i only daresay i have around 80% control
I’m surprised your DM doesn’t let you control it 100% of the time
never assume ur 100% in control of a situation
I think the lack of control is a roleplay choice
the tides can always turn
I mean by rules as written, not necessarily by RP decisions
So I just discovered that if you look up exactly "meteor swarm" on google, google does a special effect on your screen with a few meteors falling across it
never
I am very confused and surprised, but I like that
I was so sure I was being trolled but went to check anyway
story choice
yeah that’s fair
It worked 🌠
I would never troll. I am the most trustworthy person alive.
Tbh there’s a bit of a difference between not having control due to DM variance and not having control due to homebrew haha
Unfortunately LFG posts go in #looking-for-players
You can only post there every 7 days
It's not an appropriate forum for spontaneous games
applying to dnd outside my friend groups feels like that gif of a jester dancing in front of an unimpressed princess so this lowkey more chill
Just warning before mods step in since they can be fairly strict on off-topic stuff, especially about lfg posts outside of the lfg channels
I posted on Monday and found a group right away... But the monkeys paw curled, I cannot run spontaneous games until next Monday!!
hmm i like this one
rummages through ur backpack out of curiosity at what artifacts u have
im curious owo sorry i cant help myself
“Do you all prefer unpredictability coming from dice, or from RP choices the DM allows
Wouldn't RP choices be predictable?
You can always add new times to the thread that gets created when you make a #looking-for-players post but please keep all game organizing to the appropriate channels.
can artificers imbue their souls
Would this bump the post?
into artifacts?
I used the thread but there isn't many folk in there
I did check and meteor shower does the same thing, so I assume it’s just a non-D&D easter egg
Discord doesn't do post bumping
The only edit option I have is delete 😢
“Predictable in intent maybe—but not in consequences. Do you think RP unpredictability comes from player choices or DM interpretation?”
is minor rp not even allowed?
Yeah lol it's not dnd related, I also just searched meteor shower to see it haha
Same
what is ur reaction to someone rumaging through ur things tho
as an artificer if u dont mind me asking
This is a discussion server not a RP server. If you are looking for a RP server check out #looking-for-community
Bad
Look up the history of Kender in D&D
Their higher level features are something like that. Soul of Artifice has the default flavor of an Artificer having an inherent connection to their magic items, but I wouldn’t go so far as saying it’s like imbuing directly like a Lich would with a phylactery
Halfling's evil cousin
is dat a threat
On a rules level, is that something covered anywhere, or entirely table-dependent?”
Any of these show you’re listening, staying on-topic, and not pushing RP.
im not gonna take anything out of the artificers backpack without asking
they probably have 5 portable bombs,4 traps,3 things to enrage,2 things that can disrupt my mana,1 thing that will remove my soul
With my most recent Artificer? Not well, maybe with a little curiosity if they managed to get past the traps protecting it and also not die handling the materials contained within
what if it was a party member who didnt get detected due to configuration and not skills
“Mechanically speaking, are there actually any artificer features that justify trapped backpacks, or is that 100% table flavor?
Table flavor for the most part
(trust issues and cautious members)
I don’t think my Artificer’s party has even 3 artifact-level items amongst themselves. They’re not that high level
well lets assume all the items in there are safe to the party members
Actually, I expect most would-be thieves to think the contents worthless since most of his travel items are raw materials that require a good deal of knowledge to even identify them
“Sounds like a Session Zero thing more than RAW—agree?
for the sake of friendly fire
what if it was me a curious mage
curious wild magic sorc
You can certainly cast Glyph of Warding or Arcane Lock on a backpack
Depends. If this kind of behavior would have been discussed and consented to in Session 0 then I would RP it out as appropriate. My Artificer certainly wouldn’t like someone going out of their way to do who knows what with their stuff without asking. Even if it was to check it out, the fact that they spent resources to ensure he wouldn’t find out would seriously hamper their relationship
And it could definitely have story relevance if a thief shows up or you have a sticky finger teammate (like somebody's kobold if you scroll up a bit)
If it was not consented to it would turn into a discussion above the table when appropriate, usually after the session.
dm, i have spent every hour of downtime since we hit level 3 filling a notebook with explosive glyphs. it has enough power to level a city.
AND YOU'RE TELLING ME A GOBLIN STOLE IT
elite zachthebold reference
Ah the old explosive glyph nuke, a tale as old as time and as feeble as moving it 10 ft
love that guy
i picked it up from the last town
“Yeah, that tracks. Once it’s not consented to, it stops being a rules question and becomes a table conversation. Also… if a goblin can steal your city-leveling notebook, that’s less a balance issue and more a narrative consequence
LMFAO ive seen this
@jovial badger although i still think my tsunamis are superior
merp
which subclass you play for sorcerer?
now its time for the real qn
real qn:can it destroy one with arcane protections?
ans to sub: wild
As a DM I feel free to steal from my players whenever I like provided I beat their passive perceptions
I'd only do it if I had a decent story reason to do so
althought i am considering chronomancy druid or sorc
I was trying to figure out a way to kidnap a familiar because I thought the 100ft rules applied to dismissal...
But turns out you can dismiss your familiar at any distance 😢
Honestly if you’ve spent thousands upon thousands of gold and hundreds of hours to cast glyph of warding on every page and somehow not spend 8 hours to cast Alarm or any other defensive spell almost impossible for a Goblin to work around… you deserve your DM ignoring RAW to smite you
I have a very niche question 😭
In some custom character sheets there is 2 empty circles next to skills, what is the second one for?
Chronomancy!!
Most likely expertise
The most powerful magic of all
uhm so i may or may not have lost the tsunami spell
prof, expertise
Second one is probably expertise
THEY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS?!?
yes
Alarm only lasts for 8 hours though
“That feels reasonable to me—using passive Perception keeps it grounded in mechanics, and limiting it to strong story reasons helps it not feel arbitrary. As long as it’s consistent and not punitive, it makes sense.”
i didnt get any reaction to me losing the tsunami spell
oh well at least im not getting scolded it for (yey)
HAHA, L
hush child
I hope this doesn't come off as rude... Is there a chance you're using chat GPT or generative AI?
r u sad?
gah fighter
yes
RAW you can’t move the notebook more than 10 ft so presumably you’d have someone casting it every 8 hours, or just 8 hours while they sleep. There’s plenty of other defensive spells you could use. If a Goblin was able to steal it then presumably you did absolutely nothing to protect your massive time and gold investment 😭
I mean ok but I started dnd like a week ago, so im trying my best Eldritch Knighr
its a zachthebold reference
Love EKs
Nah, no AI here. Just me overthinking my wording
no i love fighters, was thinking of eldritch knight but i think rune knight would be more fun to rp
falls asleep whilst the other party members chide the guy about explosive glyphs and protection
OR
*walks off by self/with close friend/party to yap/have deep conversation *
Hell yeah
"oh what? my turn to protect the book? okay...?"
no worries
Just have elves to guard whatevee idk
It’s basically the equivalent of building a bank, putting a million dollars in the deepest part of the vault, and then leaving all the doors open thinking its fine
im the kind of party member that would be like wtf and then walk off to do my own thing
lmao that would be my reaction to losing the explosive glyph grimoire
i would drag u away to have a convo or something lol bcuz idc abt the random shit cuz not my problem
im that one airhead in the party
Tbf assuming RAW I’d be more concerned about losing all that time and money. That’s 200 gp and 1 hour a glyph
lmao i expected as much from mods
Yeah, honestly the gold and downtime loss hurts way more than the explosion risk RAW.\
Please dont post links without context or off topic links
as long as its not the partys funding idgaf
ai ai captain
oops, sorry!
Could’ve bought so much more useful things. Hell a for the price of a full 100-page notebook all glyphed out you could buy 40k gp worth of items
anyways if anyones interested in the song ill post it in #non-dnd-topics
kobold sorcerer
hell yeah
is
headaches a reprecussion of overspending mana?
do ya all ever have like mid fight level ups?
Rules-wise, no—headaches are flavor unless the DM adds a mechanic like exhaustion.
might be a fun mechanic
now that u mention it
Agreed—fun if it’s consistent and doesn’t just turn into punishment.
hi jayn
@loud tendon u can speak if u have something to add even if its repetition
wow
That would be DM fiat because I believe it takes a long rest to actually get to your next level. And stopping mid battle for 8 hrs seems unlikely.
squeak!
fiat?
Exhaustion is a difficult mechanic to fiddle with since it’s so punishing
?
Arbitrary, up to the individual DM
oh
i dislike exhaustion as a player and as a dm
Fiat means a decree or formal authorized proposition. As in, if the DM wants to rule it another way, they could. But raw, long rest
what does exhaustion do apart from render one party member basically useless
Hiii
If you get too many levels its death
death
death to the enemy
ill just have to stall them out then...
uh what happens before death?
I generally level up right after my players do something cool or defeat something big that warrants a level up. I find it a little more exciting in the celebratory moment to tell them they earned it.
Exhaustion’s speed reduction is only one downside, and the easiest to deal with punishment by far.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/rules-glossary#ExhaustionCondition
though?
That makes sense—tying level-ups to big moments feels way more rewarding than doing it later between sessions.
my players just beat up a giant bat in someone's tardis-like basement. i told them they leveled up, they were really excited.
i understand the disadvantage for the first 2 levels
that feels appropriate ngl
im surprised it doesnt eat through spell slots though
i am actually in the middle of homebrewing a SLA and trying to decide if it warrants 2 levels of exhaustion, or 4
You get your d20 Tests reduced which is fairly crippling to any character. 6 levels is instant death. And they only go down by 1 per long rest, so if you’re at Exhaustion Level 5 you need to take 5 days of rest.
hello ladies
973 💀 961 🐐 989 😍 953 😂
hii
Oh dear lord please do not do 4 levels
uhm maybe change 4 to be like half movement but loss of 2 spell slots temp?
Yeah, exhaustion stacks fast. Two levels already hurt a lot—four feels like it’d shut a character down completely unless it’s a once-per-campaign thing
i think 0 movement is unwarranted
but it does kinda make sense though if you've seen a sick person
they're barely able to even more or talk it takes alot of effort
it's an 8-hour ritual to accelerate the coming of a massive meteor that wouldn't arrive for another millenia. very massive consequences, alerts pretty much any bbeg around halfway through it.
One of the only other ways to get rid of exhaustion levels is via high level spells like Greater Restoration so Exhaustion does indirectly eat spell slots if you want it cured faster.
there's also the option of a wish spell or lv9 greater restoration
what if it ate SS naturally
Given that scale, yeah—serious exhaustion makes sense. Accelerating a world-ending meteor should wreck you.
theres also the option of picking up a herbalist tome
and making remedies
i'm not sure if remedies can fix an entirely ruined/disoriented perception of time
As for this, good luck stalling an enemy for 24 hours per exhaustion level, 8 hours per level of which you need to be out of combat resting
what if i stall out their mana though
and then attack when i have the upper hand
i mean all i have to do is focus on defence a little while
cant be that hard right?
Does your game use the spell point system? Most monsters that have the spellcasting feature still have cantrips, and I don’t think you’d survive the repeated leveled spells
thematically, it's pretty cool. around halfway through, all the wildlife in the target area start fleeing, and any spellcaster can tell something's wrong. a bbeg can erect magical defenses over their lair, evacuate, or send agents to locate and interrupt the caster.
for context, it's a lv18 sorc subclass ability
if u mean the slots
thingy then yes
The game uses spell slots not mana pools. But you could try to use spells like silence or anti magic field to prevent some (or in amf case, all) magic in that area
I’m only asking because “mana” isn’t really a thing in the game
can we get mana pools instead nya owo
Closest thing to a mana system is the spellpoint variant rule
basically, "party protects/hides the sorcerer so he can do something awesome and then pass out immediately"
Upcasting Greater Restoration actually doesn’t cure more conditions, so you’d be eating 1 Greater Restoration per Exhaustion level removed.
i think it does overcome the effects of a few existing spells already, no?
I have recently seen a suggestion to level up right before the big moment. So they get to use their new toys on the boss immediately.
It’s contextual. It will only cure one exhaustion level per casting, regardless of the source.
If a creature is subject to multiple spells that reduce Maximum Hit Points or one of its Ability Scores then yeah a single casting would remove all of those effects, but you don’t need to upcast it to do so.
By the book, it’s still one exhaustion per cast—extra effects would be a DM call.
Or rather, it would reverse all of the max HP reduction or all of the Ability score reduction at a time, not both since those are 2 separate effects and you can only choose one
oh, let me clarify: it inflicts a sla-specific condition, which includes 4 levels of exhaustion, a permanent slow effect, and a bunch of other stuff. it's meant to be cured by upcaster GR the same way a few spells encourage you to upcast it specifically in their own descriptions
hmm
Ah I see. I would make it 2 levels based on everything else, not 4. 4 levels effectively pauses the story so the PC can get rid of the Exhaustion levels.
i dont wanna pass out i wanna fight
this would actually be me to them
lmao
let me at em
rain of ice spears go
4 levels of exhaustion is crippling
makes sense, so slow + 2 exhaustion for 2d4 days, can be cured sooner by lv9 GR/wish good enough?
Mood—but yeah, RAW exhaustion doesn’t care about hype, it just shuts you down.
Heck, even 2 is bad.
But 4 is rough
uh guys
Exhaustion for 2d4 days doesn’t make sense since 2 levels of exhaustion would already be removed by the 2nd day
so weird scenario but have ya all ever seen one of those near death anime scenarios?
is it possible the character suddenly has enough willpower to breakthrough the exhaustion for even a moment and let off a spell/attack
before going uncon
it's basically "magical exhaustion" that stacks with regular exhaustion that can be cured by resting
idk like adrenaline rush to breakthrough of sorts
That’s…
Similar to the endgame Samurai Feature
But else no that’s homebrew
ik this is DnD
The Magic Action doesn’t really interact with Exhaustion levels, and Exhaustion levels doesn’t make you pass out
wait ive seen this!!!
Is coating weapons with the poison from poison spray that good? I see its free poison but is it really gonna be allowed by the dm?
u gain some kind of resolve as u lose hp!!!!its related to samurais becoming stronger as they lose hp!!
well but lets assume they have enough to fire off one clean spell that negates
you won't know if you don't ask the dm, but i would let ray of sickness be valid sources of poison coating on my table
and then they faint due to the casting of the spells effect on their body @stuck shuttle @stuck shuttle
No, the feature just gives you another turn not more health.
You can heal on that turn tho
Ah I see. That should be fine then for a seriously debilitating effect. What level of play were you thinking of putting this effect against your players?
There are some features where instead of going to 0, you go to 1
hm
seen this too
Do you have much experience playing spellcasters? There aren’t any spells nor features to my knowledge that allow a spellcaster to temporarily negate an exhaustion level in exchange for casting a spell and going unconscious afterwards
its flavour?owo willpower more than the actual spell
this is a lv18 subclass trait for a time sorcerer, so it's basically meant to be something to put pressure on an almighty bbeg.
Exhaustion as the discussion has engaged with is the mechanical condition, not flavoring being exhausted
its the character taking the strain on themselves but knowing the action is gonna knock them unconscious or near death if they do this
@stuck shuttle
I’m not super sure if you’d also want to inflict unconsciousness on yourself right after casting a spell either tbf
it is more of a last resort im gonna be honest
Rough is an understatement
Disadvantage on all 3 roll types, half speed, AND half HP?
in terms of rp flavor, the caster's perception of time is ruined, and they're too disoriented. the world around them is going faster than they can catch up, and their body becomes more susceptible to exhaustion during it (hence why they stack)
mental willpower breakthrough for split sec or moment?
if rule of cool, sure
Ah I see. In that case that seems powerful, but I’d say it’s appropriate for level 18.
Specifically with cantrips I tend to lean more on the "it does what it says on the tin and nothing else" side of things just because they're unlimited use.
its kind of like them getting a strong action on exhaustion but with recoil
cataclysmic meteor with a 5-mile effective radius that you can aim directly at the bbeg's lair, except around hour 4 of the ritual everyone feels something wrong, and at hour 7 any spellcaster can pinpoint your location, likely forcing the party to protect you while concentrating
you need a clear view of the sky for it though
That sounds like a classic high-risk, high-reward capstone—strong, but with real counterplay built in.
This seems very thematic but campaign dependent
a dm could easily shut this down, or play around it.
Like what if the BBEG has their base underground?
get out of my way dumb thing otherwise i cant cast the spell
thats gonna be me to the party members lol
yeah, that shortcoming is intentional
but i think if the base is not too deep, it could cause tremors
wouldnt the bbeg have thought of it tho and have put arcane prots?
so its basically a waste?
What I might do is either make it more universal or split the feature into an “above ground” and “below ground” option
or is thiis gonna break through the protss
they absolutely can, making your party sneak in and try to turn them off and leave before the impact. (you have 1d4 hours before the meteor falls if the ritual succeeds)
lmao 1 hour would be awful
over ground, the meteor itself, underground, massive earthquakes?
1 hour is like damn we need to move NOW
Any of them
how big does the meteor have in terms of aoe impact?
Like just as an example the level 18 feature does effectively nothing if the campaign takes place in the Underdark
creatures within 1 mile automatically fail the saving throw, within 5 miles you do a dex save to halve the effect
yk what would make for a cool scene
just some familiar caving in the roof to save its master on instinct
like it caves in the roof and fites
A massive underground network of caves and tunnels underneath the surface of Faerun in the Forgotten Realms setting, the most popular official setting of 5th Edition
i could say underground beneath where the meteor fell, it causes earthquakes and rockfall with similarly destructive effects in cave systems
its too dark!
get me out of here!
my character would probably panic and spam spells at the roof to try and break free and get out
(instincts)
either that or a deadly aoe
hmm, everyone in a much smaller, pinpointable impact area takes fire+bludgeoning damage, but anyone not directly hit by the meteor takes thunder damage in a large radius? does that make more sense?
How long is the mechanics list for the feature at the moment? I could see it being relatively too long if you’re including universal and separate conditions based on location
imagine getting stuck in a mimic in the underdark
oh yeah, right, forgot to move there
(oof)
This makes sense, although it is starting to sound like Meteor Swarm with #homebrew damage types. I agree, we should move this discussion over there
That is a good way to:
-
- Waste spell slots
-
- Get a bunch of really really bad creatures alerted to your location
bag of holding ||your neck||
i got trapped in a pitfall trap once with a self closing lid. no one in my party saw me fall. had to use half my spell slots on thunderclaps to alert them to my location.
alot of other things also got alerted to my location
im casting tsunami
i want us out of here 🙁
either that or im clinging to a party member for the rest of this cave
Walking is faster than using Tsunami for travel
Actually, literally dropping prone and crawling is faster
im not travelling
im breaking us out of the cave
Tsunami can’t destroy objects/structures
why not
The spell description doesn’t say it can
rule 0 is a thing
Sure but RAW is the default assumption
no raw
raw is boring i wanna level cities/j
If rules aren’t being considered then the game is Calvinball and instead of D&D we’re playing freeform RP
freeform roleplay is fun
then RAW, circle cast delayed blast fireball to extend the duration by one day and deal 14,422d6 fire damage c:
fire is too generic
