If I made it to 3rd level, I’d go for divination.
I could really use the ability to see the future tomorrow.
I have mistakenly read that as deviation
no just skinny
Wizard, not Bard.
You'll just get one shotted because You're skinny
Yes
i think the only stat that's above average for me would be dex
What is this “food poisoning” you speak of? (A person that’s never been sick from a meal)
one time i left a crunchwrap supreme in a hot car for an hour and was violently ill for like fourty eight hours
Food poisoning?
You could’ve achieved the same effect by eating the crunchwrap supreme immediately.
truth
i can't eat taco bell at all anymore, even just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach
Well, I would want to pick Life Domain Cleric. It would be really hard to imagine me trying to pick something else
same thing with deep dish pizza but not so much anymore
I’m getting an actuary certification, so being a divination wizard makes the most sense.
I guess I'm that committed to being a healer. But hey, even in games, someone's gotta do it. It's why medics are invaluable
Using ma(th)gic to predict the future.
there's a solid chance i'd also just be a shitty generic fighter
because i have a bastard sword thats the only reason i say this
Commoner, guard.
I heard that tacobells can hurt your stomach so much
For irl, the main times I use math are for probability calculation. Specifically so I can see how badly Lady Luck screwed me over
I suck at math
12 strength, 14 dex, 10 con, 10 int, 8 wisdom, -2 charisma
For example, the past 20 damage rolls i made, only 2 have been above the average
Even worse, those 2 were 4s on a D8
wait hold on let me roll a d20 for a life check
I think I have somewhere between a 13 or 15 in intelligence.

Hello I am new and looking for people to play with sometimes ((:
Best of luck, Aurora.
i mean i might have a higher int because i have an above average iq and i'm generally more educated than most people, but i'm also just an idiot sometimes
It feels like every new person asks that question. I don't know why...
Start wisdommaxxing.
wait
so obvious eddie hall and thor bjornson have the highest strength stats in the world
but who has the highest charisma stat in the world
I think i can finally be the dwarf cleric that I played in my first one shot
Short.
Highest charisma ever, or highest currently?
Crying in 5'6 right now
both
Gentle reminder about server rules - please be careful with the "highest charisma" discussion
Ah, apologies.
Chat, I think I'm too deep into the discussion earlier about the 9th level spell
Yes.
I was thinking for quite some time about the first 3 people I would resurrect
But I think you could make a good little story out of it if you had a mind to write it down?
And I think my choices would be pretty good, all things considered
Discounting politicians then… highest charisma would probably be Shakespeare. His plays are still performed to this day.
And no. They aren't the ones to cause havoc. Specifically, I aim to make things better, not worse
Walt Disney is probably up there though.
A fair pick.
I unfortunately am not one to write stories. I try my best to have good wisdom, but often word things poorly and I am not someone really loved irl for reasons often outside of my control
what was the question?
Someone asked in chat which spell would you take if you had a 9th level spell that you could cast with a 1 year cooldown/once a year
And I chose True Resurrection
With or without material components?
Let's just say many of us have deeply missed at least one person in our lives that were simply gone too soon
Don't sell yourself short. Practice, little and often. When you get a minute, scratch something down, a line, a paragraph.
Id assume with. And wish is banned
i'm still young i haven't lost anyone very important to me
plus with the chance to never be able to cast it again idk
In only 5th edition?
I'm not bothered with selling myself short. If anything, i make texts like these of me drifting off, thinking about just how much of a positive impact you could make on the world
but think about this, with true polymorph you'll be able to make yourself physically the dream version of yourself every year, meaning you'd also be functionally immortal
Well, if epic boons existed, that could be possible too
Honestly Gate would be my pick.
you can also just create creatures and people if you dont want to do this, that's sick
you could be the greatest and least available plastic surgeon in the world
But think of it. Every year, a body is cremated and you bring someone back in a new and better body
Walt Disney
Billy Kametz
Mikayla Raines
Satoru Iwata
Those 4 above would be great as well
Because they meant so much to others and to myself as well
Yeah you guys enjoy that. I’ll just pop over to a reality where I picked a different spell.
casting gate and then just going to actual faerun
Well, that means leaving this reality behind. And to say that people would miss you is an understatement
where you become a wizard and then get more ninth level spells
For a year. No different from visiting another country for a long time.
Well, no. In this hypothetical scenario, you get only one 9th level spell. Nothing more
so even if someone went to faerun and became a wizard they could only have a single ninth level spell?
But no. I'm not really going to bother with a novel. I prefer to speak my mind in places like here. Like thinking out loud
You wouldn't have access to the class, most likely. You would just get the spell
That’d depend on if you could even use the native magic beyond casting the one spell. You might just remain a commoner.
the thought of returning home and eldritch blasting the neighbor's dog
the idea of picking gate and then going to the femboy dimension
That said, it’s open for a whole minute right? What’s stopping me from opening a gate, grabbing some loot, and leaving?
picking gate and going to the gas station
But yeah. It's easy to be someone who can destroy or have powers for themselves
But for better or for worse, I like being a healer of sorts. Someone who can take back what was taken from us too soon
yeah i'm still picking true polymorph
Valid decisions.
And you can do that every single year... could you imagine what damage you could reverse in 5 years? 10? 20?
turning the number one opp into a quarter so you can buy a gumball
picking true polymorph just to shave your legs
I don't know if it's just life or it being near the end of 2025, but it's hard not to look back at what is gone
And the imagination of being able to give back what was lost. Not just for your own sake and glory, but so others can be grateful for what is returned and hopefully think to appreciate who you have before it's too late
i mean true polymorph is kind of loose with the rules, couldn't you theoretically turn a corpse into the living version of that person
Driving in my car after a beer
picking true polymorph just to turn my empty beer can into a full one
This is what I mean by going too deep in the hole. It's been over an hour, but it's a very deep topic to think about
Hey that bump is shaped like a deer
picking true polymorph to make my macaroni and cheese less salty
But alas, reality comes flooding back. I can barely change life around me, let alone have the power to change my own life for the better
i daydream all day every day, i'm used to the feeling
What is happening?
Snapped back to the reality that I unfortunately cannot cast True Resurrection
So, casting a spell just requires you to have your material component in hand right?
But there are very few spells that restrict where the magic actually come from
i'd pick power word kill just to smite jack doherty
Are we off topics now?
Anyone play magic also?
nah, nothing beats a good martial
“The target is limited in the actions it can perform by the anatomy of its new form, and it can’t speak or cast spells.” 2024 polymorph.
I just find it a little ironic about myself, I guess. I genuinely do love helping, except that it often goes unnoticed. Or that I cannot help myself, with others being unable to or largely not caring. And some others on the severe end of wanting me to struggle and fail
i don't know 2024 rules
it's not true polymorph though
but yeah thats what i was gonna say
i'm using 2014 rules
Fair.
Not really, you may change a corpse into a person of the same species
but that doesn't mean they will be that person
I play as a wizard, but I should’ve been a warlock in the beginning
It kind of makes you wonder. There are a few people in my life who I can't forget that have changed my life, for better or for worse
But how can I give what I got and make a meaningful positive impact people will remember and love?
Necromancy?
im talking about true polymorph...
oh...
imagine using true polymorph and just turning some dude you don't like into a pair of jordans
Now that's evil
I don't have to imagine, this trope is so common im pretty sure you can find it 500 years in the past
it's arguably the most broken ninth level spell
there are weaknesses to it
Tell me about this polymorph weakness...
you have to concentrate for an hour if you want it to be permanent
Concentrate for one hour straight on keeping that guy as a pair of jordans.
and you cant turn any object into a creature unless the object is bigger
caster has to hold concentration for the full duration for it to take an effect
thing you animated with this spell act on their own accord but are friendly in relation
Really a pair of Jordans?
Also they’d get a save if it isn’t willing, based off of your save DC.
so that you could step on the opps
The comedic side of me would just be laughing
But there's always that side of me that feels like it's so much potential wasted
People being turned into things is a story about as old as humanity itself
If I were to use true polymorph on a pile of Lego, would it just do one Lego or the whole pile?
yeah but almost every human doesn't have above like 12 wisdom
also you would technically need 2 creatures to get a pair of shoes
you'd have to have one of those little plastic tags they use to hold the shoes together
8 + prof + spell modifier though. What are you using to cast it, and what’s your modifier?
idk probably int
This may be a common question asked but could flavoring justify a Dragonborn that looks and talks like a human
I wonder if they are sentient after being turned into a pair of Jordans
Or have human features basically instead of a bipedal bulky lizard
i mean the main thing i'd do with it, is true polymorph myself and other willing people
again they are not because they can not be turned into a pair of Jordans
at most into a single Jordan
not if the jordans are connected with one of those little plastic tags
Reminds me how painful a pile of Lego brick is
turn your opp into a fashionable pair of boxer briefs
in this case splitting them would break the spell
not if i concentrate the full hour first
So, you missed me talking about True Resurrection for an hour
and again they wouldn't be one object
Anywho, good night gamers.
"The transformation lasts for the duration or until the target dies or is destroyed,"
breaking the link would count as destroyed
after the full duration it's permanent
Probably. It definitely is a huge thing to think about, being able to resurrect whoever you want. You could revert so much damage
Yeah uh I don't want to be part of it
I gotcha
Are we still talking about Jordans here?
and if i couldn't turn the opps into a pair of jordans
like i said, a fashionable pair of boxer briefs instead
anyways i'm going now
Hey i have core rulebook I, ive dabbled and played loosely, i have since doing that "RP'd" in many a rpgs and feel i just want to play a round

What are the best bots for a dnd server am making one for my friends and want some recommendations beside avrae
There's dice maiden
Is it similar to arvae?
Yes
But it doesn't have the ability to connect to dndbeyond it's just a better dice roller
Ah okay
What about something in general
I added carl bot so far but idk i feel like there might be better options out e
A bot for ambient music during sessions stuff like that
Unfortunately I am absolutely terrible with using bots so I can't give more advice
Actually I know one for that
Jockie Music, it uses youtube
Me too ngl
I got excited about making the sevrer and now unfortunately I can’t back down
Thanks
Is it a bit odd that we don't know anything whatsoever about the 2026 release schedule? Or is that normal? Our current campaign is coming to an end, and ideally I'd start something that's been written with the 2024 rules in mind (though I know all the older 5e stuff is compatible).
They're going to be level 15 by the end of this. Which is hard to find material for (unsurprisingly).
was the wall of the faithless ever actually destroyed or is that just a rumor?
It's been not-mentioned in 5e leading to the assumption that it no longer is a "thing" in the current D&D edition.
Folks in #dnd-lore may have more to share about when it showed up in D&D.
Does the channel divinity ability of the oath of devotion work with smites? Like, do i get a + (charisma mod.) on my spell attack bonus?
Phantasmal force on you to relive stepping on Lego bricks.
Is there any non one-shot campaign podcasts/Shows in which a player played an artificer
Do i have to ask there?
It's the best channel for the topic
Yeah they haven't announced anything yet
can you use the command spell to command someone to throw their weapon to you? if its a one word command?
How, exactly
The 2024 commands are more specific than they used to be, so no
With the 2014 rules, you can do any one word command. The interpretation is up to the DM
wait- so which is it
Depends on which ruleset you are using
Yeah, a lot of spells aren’t written very well in the 2024 rules
Nah, a lot of spells are written way better, command being one of them imo. The old command would grind things to a halt if someone tried too use it like sugesstion
i cant tell an enemy at a edge of a cliff to backflip :(
That wouldn’t work anyways
Nah, but you could allways shove them
Most of the low-level mind control spells don’t let you tell enemies to hurt themselves
Or shove them off cliffs
true
Like urizt said
what spells push enemies back? thunderwave right?
Yes that is one of them
Thunderwave indeed
does the pushing always occur even if they succeeded their saving throw?
No they need to fail
If you’re a warlock you can take the repelling blast evocation
Nah but you can tell them to stand on the edge of the cliff. Then all ya gotta do is sparta kick that SOB
Telekinetic feat works too.
if you cut off any path you can order flee i guess
They will only flea up to the edge and no further
yeah
This is also very situational. Not every combat contains readily available cliffs of death
Is there any non one-shot campaign podcasts/Shows in which a player played an artificer
Nah cliffs of death are everywhere. I have fought on cliffs of death..... uhhhh.... hmmmm.... ya know now that I think about it I haven't fought on cliffs of death once in my 4 year old campaign.
We didnt fight on cliffs of death but we did descend down ropes once and party member slipped, fell 70 feet landed on their lantern and burst into flames. It was hilarious.
I can imagine the sound, 10/10
They were the last to come down sooo we were all just hanging out then suddenly a long scream a crash and a feminine fireball.
whats a 'feminine' fireball?
The result of a girl falling 70 feet and bursting into fire.
There's a couple mentioned here (https://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/17y56ci/artificer_real_play_examples/): Caldwell in Eldenmourne, and Vldl (?) on YouTube.
Why do you ask? What do you need here?
Why do sphinx's ask riddles
Sounds like a riddle. Nice try Sphinx!
...did they.... live?
Blehh, but like.. why do sphinx's actually ask riddles
i wanted too see how other people play artificer differently from me, while still enjoying a podcast/ show but i couldn't find any lol
thank you!
I've got a module I'm running Tuesday and there's a moment in it where they meet a sphinx that insists the party answer a riddle
why riddles?
Maybe to test the creature to see if it's worthy of it's knowledge and wisdom
Why not?
Barely. They failed two death saves and we just got to her in time.
Tradition, test of wisdom/ worthiness, it's not all sphinx really, it's some kind of cosmic dictate.
All their stuff was burned and unuseable tho.
I hear this a lot, but this riddle in the module feels so simple.. I guess that makes sense though I mean half of my players have always had issues with puzzles
What's the riddle?
I think traditionally sphinx's guarded treasures of knowledge so testing creatures to see if they are worthy of such treasures may play into the whole riddles thing
The simplest riddles are the hardest for the party to solve.
Because I dont think you are supposed to fight a sphinx. I think they are supposed to mystical guide you if you can figure out their mystery. Or mystical steer you away.
puzzles for elementary students being necessary for the average D&D player is a longstanding meme and truth mind you
Sometimes it can be a test of manners. An evil creature might take it as a prompt to attack or get excessively sly. A party that take the challenge in good faith even if it stumps them could still pass, if that's what the sphinx cares about.
"You've come to meet me at my temple,
And I'll give you all of it that you ask for.
Yet no matter how much of it you take,
You'll always leave with less than before
What is it?
"
The answers Time
that you ask for I assume.
That's fair, it's so funny cuz it's such a simple riddle, with multiple written in ways to succeed, but then there's still even a result for how to give the players the information if they still fail the riddle
That's right, my baddd
||Answers||
The other question I'd ask if hit with a sphinx riddle is "why this riddle?" Like, what does it relate to in our past, present or future? Is it something the sphinx needs us to consider going forward?
riddles are both fun and stupid because almost all of them technically have multiple applicable answers but the asker arbitrarily decides which one works
It also- I want to note -says that she gives them a bonus reward if they're also respectful to her
Jolly good.
I don't join fantasy games for riddles or puzzles. If we can't just roll our intelligence or Wisdom checks then I want no part of it
What is a good race and class for a beginner? Just want to have fun and mess with party members
Ol' reliable: Human Fighter.
Any
You want to mess with party members?
Yea my friends
Firbolg for invisibility
Any would be factually incorrect. Any full spellcaster is less than beginner friendly compared to a martial class
Just so when they are having intimate conversation. You can just be right besides them as its over lol
Can do alot with invisibility.
They’re still very easy to pick up
Which class ?
Table expectations. I can swing either way on it, personally. Some folk love it, some folk want to play the INT 20 wizard sage after they got done with a double shift at work.
Yes bit if they specifically want to mess with their friends
Most definitely bard or wizard or artificer. Bard is prolly more player friendly
Do not assume every new player has the same intelligence as yourself. I've watched plenty of people, even non beginners struggle with casters
Bard does buffs and stuff ?
yes
Yes, and mind control/illusions
Highly reccomend checking out the Basic Rules
Idk what you mean by "mess with them" like just getting on their nerves etc
Ok
It does give you the option to investigate the surrounding area for clues
How about a druid bard ?
Athena pickup a spellcaster at the very least that knows minor illusion.
Y9u can mess with them alot with minor illusion
And presdigitation.
I strongly recommend against any kind of multiclassing as a beginner
I would avoid multi classing until you understand the game better
K , it's my first game ever
Definitely avoid multiclassing
I think you might want to play some kind of bard then
I mean druids aren't the funny ima mess with your head kinda class. They do get hallucinitary terrain tho and lots of higher spells can mess with heads.
So a firbolg bard , for invisibility and illusions
Other then the higher spells I mean if you are tryna just be a nuisance and do funny things to your friends. Idk if druid is tne way
Any race will work, but sure sounds interesting
However..... if dm allows you to organize a coordinated attack with ants, squirrels etc
Ask your DM if they have the books with firbolgs
Using speak with animals and other checks.
You can be a druid and be mischievous i guess
But if I tell the dm what spell I am gonna use , my friend would already know that ?
I mean, pass without trace gives you a flat 10 to your stealth roll and hiding gives the invisibile condition now
But id def go the arcane type route with sorcerer, bard, wizard. To mess with people's heads
Can text it to him
great old one warlock can also be surprisingly good for shenanigans, they get telepathy and the ability to skip verbal and somatic components on enchantment and illusion spells
I only said artificer cause imagine making a alarm or somethin just to annoy. Them what specifically are you wanting to do
When you say "mess with my friends" what exactly do you want to do?
Ohhhh this is actually a great idea
To troll them or rage bait someone during a fight
Warlock at level 2 can do disquise self at will
^they can always think you are a npc hahaha
If you use disquise self.
Btw How do you play dnd online?
Some way of talking like Discord, some way of rolling dice like DDB or a virtual tabletop.
What?
Specifically troll them what ya mean?
Some way of communication.
A form of using the mechanics with the dice.
Idk I just thought of that randomly, what can I actually do to troll them ? 😅
We are using a dice bot
like, even if you just multiclass it to level ~3, and then have a different class you pretend to be 100%
This is a game of imagination. If you describe it im sure we can help you build it
still gets you 2 second level pact slots, 3 invocations, and the subclass spells and passives
Oh that's huge
Basically your friends wouldn't know your casting spells
Illusion spells.
It just happens XD
Something like , when my teammates need support i just leave them be or hide their stuff
Def not during combat or out of combat?
Funny shenanigans is different then hiding the stuff that makes them be able to use their character
During ? I'll just leave him there to suffer
If you truly wanta be maniacal
that's like minor illusion, invisibility, suggestion, enthrall
Then play the cleric and everyone will think you are the healer.... then never heal
Thats awful but... if thats fun to you and your players then run it
I thought bout it first but we already have one
If I don't heal , she will do it instead
I chose a Ranger elf at first but many players also chose elf so i thought I'll just troll them
Well... you can totally go gloomstalker alos to go invisible
only to darkvision people in darkness
Minor illusion and disquise self to trick your friends... complete sabotage to them is above my paygrade
What are some other ways I can troll my party members ?
You disquise self as the bbeg
really, those three warlock levels give you pretty much all you need XD
Or party wants to go one way and you want to go the other way. Disquise self to act like a npc to tell your friends about how this way has tons of treasure etc.
Someone already picked warlock , if I pick that he will think I am just coping him
Pick something else to start out with
then multi-class
Illusionist wizard
Minor illusion as a bonus action.
Anyway, i feel like this convo is better for #character-discussion
K
The problem is we are doing all the things in the same server so if I use illusion all other party members will know
And if I dm the DM there is a possibility that he will not notice
Just talk to the dm idk... I dont sabotage my friends. But if thats fun to you
Now am feeling bad doing this
I may dislike ranger but Gloomstalker is generally really cool. Had some gloomstalker NPCs to mess around with. Fun enemy faction.
Its fine to mess with their heads. I would not be taking their gear.
Thats what makes them be able to play their class. Without their focus they cant cast spells
Good plan!
Double negatives and technical truths are what I do to get past other players when "lying"
What?
I stole a whole bunch from a shop, my own party caught me. Told me to drop what I stole. I did.....just sorta kept the cool goggles.
Double negatives and technical truths get around insight and zone of truths. You asked what's a subtle way to troll party members, thats a avenue you could go with.
Gotta think about it, has to be a good technicality. Don't just say something that won't mean anything, though.
When your DM gives you 'homework' to put your DnDBeyond character on a physical sheet.
So you go to the nerd store, and they ran out of sheets.
So you go to the library, and they close early on the weekends.
So you just make your own character sheet on a piece of paper. It took me 2 hours. 🤣
The things I do for this game.
You can print one out
This convo also kinda also illustrates how kind of garbo zone of truth is if your DM is really feeling spiteful.
That's what the library was for. We don't have a printer on standby.
Hello
Howdy. What's on your mind today?
Nothing much
Just saying hi to the server for the first time
Well, welcome aboard. Don't forget to check the #channel-guide for all the nooks and crannies about the place.
The best decision that I've ever made as a DM was adding an anomaly to campaign. The anomaly basically opens portals which bring random objects and people to random places and random times. It was the best decision because now i have an excuse to put weird things into the campaign. For example i once added a village which was covered in snow in a middle of summer and it was gone the next morning.
are rougs automicly thiefs ?
No
nope, u can also be an assasin
After you get the boots of elvenkind and the cloak of elvenkind.... nothing is gonna find you
what kind of alightment would that make it ? evil?
With expertise in stealth etc.
not in this edition
Rogues are just the mechanical chassis, who you are outside of that is up to you
well all depends on who u assasinate. theres no class that makes it so u cant be good or evil, u can be whatever you want
I've got a rogue in mind who's a tough guy. Sure, he used to work for the local mob but he's out of that now.
Ive seen rogues roll 33-43 stealth on average... no passive is beating that. You've officially hid from God himself
you can be an evil cleric and you can be a good thief
You don't have to be evil if you kill people. You could be a good assassin, for example killing tyrants
Rogues also make half-decent scouts and explorers.
stil ur killing a creature
There is only one alignment-locked subclass in the game. Every other subclass can be any alignment
wat would that be ?
huh, which one
And other ideas - consider what you could put expertise in that isn't stealth or sleight of hand.
Oath breaker?
Oathbreaker Paladin. You specifically need to have an evil alignment to take it.
necromancer? or the avarage warlock that got a deal with a demon ?
Killing may be an evil action but we’re the sum of our parts in the context of how we live. A single kill won’t change your alignment but may lean it one way or another on the spectrum.
kils a tyrant. despitlizes antire region into anarchy good job
Average suggests to me that's one on a curve. Most folk strike deals for immediate goals. Some do it because they lurve the devils. Some do it out of duress or desperation with the best of intentions.
warlock with an imp patron they vastly outclass would be funny
The imp has one thing going for them, and that's the buried knowledge of magical secrets that they can't use themselves.
so the imp smugly manipulate the warlock into doing their bidding if they want the spicy magical knowledge and is just bratty in general XD
Kinda reminds me of that one orc in Shadow of Mordor who helps the PC in return for the PC killing all his enemies
and the warlock is somewhat bitter and begrugingly goes along
also the imp is their familiar
Hey im making a lvl1 fighter multiclassing into lvl2 artificer. Does anyone have anytips on what i should add or use?
#character-discussion , but are you sure you want that mix?
it seems pretty cool to me and thanks for the char discusion chat
Ran a Cleric of Asmodeus for a while.
Yeah.
Morality isnt binary.
Actually he’s Pan. Which is more notably in the Marvel Universe
Anyway it’s because you mention him being queer and I’m guessing Moth didn’t understand what you meant by Gender Queer
One of my favorite things about him lol
Love me some pan representation
Sorry, bit ignorant/unaware on some things when it comes to that typa stuff
Also cannot read
Dude is in love with a Skeleton.
Now we should extend that with Liches /jk
Deadpool has a fling with lady death while Thanos seethes that his love will never loves him.
Pretty sad stuff, romance is tough
Thanos doesn't deserve any sympathy at all in comics or the silver screen
He was a monster who wanted to kill most of the universe so his bone lady notices him. I think eternal NTR is well deserved.
Thanos is evil and can never not be evil in canon iirc
Its still sad. I dont have to like someone for that
If I remember correctly there is a kick starter for a book on how to handle romance in D&D.
Haise...... HAISE....
What?
You didn't get the reference?
It is a pretty broad reference but tg?
Tokyo Ghoul, yeah
Im sure they say his name twice at some point in there
He also picked a random human and decided to torture that human every year on his birthday. No reason, just ft like it.
Bad to the bone
hmm selling my steed as lvl 4 paladin to get some free money hmmm 🤔
I see novels and a dating sim
What you're talking about mightve come out already
Ah perhaps. I only heard of it from it’s cover artist
Tome of Endless Romance?
No, there was a reason. It was because they had the same birthday iirc
It's one I've seen ads for, but it looked AI so never looked at it further
Not a very good reason, but there was one.
He has that shit on, fym?
Its horrible
What a shit head.
Ah, it feels good to curse.
Ah it’s called “How to GM Romance”
Romance tracking, systems on how to handle disputes and breakups.
Amazing
10 GMillion dollars to this kickstarter
"Ha, I bet I could sell these idiots on this road I own!"
So I can't but you can?!?! smh...
Some swear words are and aren’t allowed
wait so u can say the s word but u cant say l@me? 😭
Shit is not typically considered a curse word, however if people consistently use it to insult others we may add it

Most DM's ignore that because there are hundresds of ways to run evil paladins that arent oathbreakers and hundreds more ways to play good oathbreaker paladins.
WOTC is just a little braindead on the creativity side of things.
For instance a Drow oathbreaker paladin who broke their vows to Lolth to do good.
why not be a redemption paladin
I disagree, Oathbreaker fulfills a very specific niche that the flavor text explicitly states
not all breaking your oath/changing your oath moments have to be to specifically Oathbreaker
In fact, WotC already thought of the possible consequences for a Paladin who break their oath, Oathbreaker is just one path, arguably the most serious path
That sincerely sounds like a Redemption paladin to me
Yes WOTC pigeon holed the class because they are braindead.
Oathbreaker fun though 😔
They didn’t though? They provided alternate consequences for tenet violations
Well, I was hoping Aura of Hate wouldn't buff enemy undead but yknow it is what it is
I’m sure Paladins are allowed to have a crisis of faith like any religious person is allowed to.
not sure why one subclass being specifically evil pigeonholes it
so random thought, is it frequent for gods to be associated with specific damage types?
Is there an app for creating character sheets for dnd 2024? I wanna create a Oath of the noble Genie paladin
Also oathbreaker is meant for NPCs and can only be given to a player if the DM allows it
We literally have Conquest for another more evil coded paladin
Specifically said in the 2014 DMG
there is, but none that let you use Genies legally without paying
That is literally the definition of pigeonhole.
You broke a oath. An oath isnt evil or good inheritantly.
ughhh so annozing
Not really, except maybe Radiant because…y’know, divine.
annoying
Oathbreaker specifically is
I've seen bits of myrkul and shar being associated with necrotic but not much else
My dm ignores that as its clearly a product of the class being made as enemy
In my experience this is a very commonly thrown out rule at tables.
Yes you’re correct. Oathbreaker Paladin explicitly has an alignment requirement regardless, because the subclass is for a specific kind of oathbreaking- that being to pursue an evil ambition
than thats fine and good, but thats not the assumed
Yeah same if I have a Oathbreaker in my campaign I'd house rule that to not affect enemy undead
counterpoint, what if that oath was made for the service of evil?
You could become an Oathbreaker that way
then you take up an oath that fits. As i said before, Conquest is pretty evil coded, and others can be twisted
e.g. they made an oath of vengeance to punish the enemies of an evil god
Arkran the Cruel is an Oathbreaker in service of Tiamat
... thats a Vengeance pally
and then broke said oath?
Reread oathbreaker, does specify it being evil. Kinda stupid flavortest I think but pffff, oh well.
I think it's officially breaking an oath for an evil reason and personal gain
Not lol oopsie I was in a morally grey situation and forced to make a difficult decision. But more I have taken the powers bestowed to me and used them for personal gain contrary to the oath that granted them.
is breaking said oath an evil act?
Right exactly my point. You play an oathbreaker paladin who broke vows to Lolth and use the oathbreaker class to hunt down and kill the drow who harm the sentient races.
Depents on the scenario. They want to redeem themselves? Redemption paladin
It’s a common misconception that Oathbreaker Paladin is simply any Paladin who broke their oath. I personally blame WotC for naming it that way, since a lot of players confuse it for a general tenet violation.
that really sounds like Redemption
Even if it is technically accurate
2014 oathbreaker was a product of 2014 still being influenced by the design of earlier editions
And it was made for villains and thus required being evil because villains are typically evil
For OBs it is
An oathbreaker is a paladin who breaks their sacred oaths to pursue some dark ambition or serve an evil power. Whatever light burned in the paladin's heart been extinguished. Only darkness remains.
I say typically because I’ve seen neutral characters who were absolutely villains
Yes, and its implied he broke his oath before serving tiamat, but we arent given much other info besides that
The Paladin class page actually has a specific textbox on what happens before becoming Oathbreaker. That being a change of subclass or loss of powers. Not all oath breaks lead to oathbreaker. A Paladin who broke their oath to champion a more noble cause would switch to something like Redemption.
oh also thing I've been wondering, does anything unique happen if a paladin makes an oath towards a warlock's patron?
No necessarily one who makes a dark creed to use powers of violence and hate towards their evil ex goddess
no. Hence my initial response of ask your DM
Vengeance paladin.
Then there is conquest
Or vengeance, that works too
I did not know if you were talking to me and I'm talking theory I'm not in a game
-# I love vengeance pally
Saying any paladin who breaks their oath must be an OB is also pigeonholing
this aint BG3
The line between cleric, paladin, and warlock can be very thin. The difference is simply the type of relationship between the entity and mortal.
You are not gaining OB status for lying once, or stealing
It’s like committing a crime. Not every crime deserves capital punishment. The Oathbreaker subclass is the capital punishment, so to speak.
now I wanna make a character that is a cleric, paladin, and warlock devoted to the same entity
Bg3's ways of determining oathbreaking still miffs me off that I swore (lol) to not be anywhere as strict when it comes to Paladin oaths in games
This is why it is bad being pigeon holed. Lots of cool non evil uses for the oathbreaker class and abilities. And although alignments are overwhelmingly disliked and not used by the D&D community people will still fight tooth and nail to lock oathbreaker to a system nobody even likes to begin with.
The 2024 PHB mentions about breaking an oath, and it says to just pick a different subclass or another class entirely
But I do like bg3's way of handling Oathbreakers
Its horrible
Warlock is very transactional, cleric is worship, and paladin is devotion.
I think it's cool how durge has unique lines for it though
One single little thing should not break an oath
I feel like you’re still ignoring all the stuff about the consequences of breaking your oath before becoming oathbreaker
they shouldnt be anyway. A player and the DM are supposed to set expectations on the tenets and their oath
I don’t like how easy it is to break and how it forces me to play in a specific way but I suppose I can enjoy the oathbreaker NPC and how you can reclaim it
Like if you picked good over law as a result of circumstances, you can just transition into an Oathbreaker
Bg3 is hair trigger nonsense with unintuitive consequences sometimes when it comes to oaths
No need to design an evil character from the start to go Oathbreaker
Oh yeah BG3’s way of dealing with Oathbreaker I’m not a fan of
Oh? You killed several children and became an Oathbreaker? Pay some money and youre good
Somehow I broke my oath of vengeance by killing enemies
reminds me of that meme where it's a barbarian just showing up in hell and saying hi to the grim reaper before getting resurrected because the barbarian dies so much
Lol
Reminds me of something....
I think I get what they were tryna do with it but it does not come off well
I wish they could’ve done it more dynamically, but I understand why they did it. It’d probably be a lot of extra work to include a redemption sidequest, dynamic determination of what constitutes a tenet violation, etc
Considering how bg3 is I feel like having a cheat mod installed to undo anything silly is the way to go
MY LORD DRANK WINE, NOT WATER.
Its because they know damn well people will accidentally bust their oath doing fairly normal stuff
Thats blood on your cup!
I quicksave 3 times per conversation and every other step
I've always theorized that the oathbreaker knight is supposed to be the manifestation of the paladin's grief and the payment is supposed to represent what you'd be willing to give up to have your oath back
Its horrible. Deleting my saves takes an hour
Lmao I made it a habit to quick save twice in any circumstance cuz mods will legit break my characters
Its like rips on your pants, it adds character to your cup!
I once played with a DM who created a god my paladin is sworn to without telling me and had the god constantly show up and force me to do and not do things and threatened to take away my Spellcasting if I didn’t listen. I hated it
Safe to say I happily became an oathbreaker
Away with you heretic
That uh, sounds like Warlock stuff lol
Stramge
Yeah bad DM's can be a nightmare.
no idea how accurate that is
No gods constantly pester their Paladins or any priest class about doing this or that, only Warlock patrons are this possessive
Agreed
The church will miss Grok Grok The Orphan Stomper and his generous donations!
i mean... i posted the relevant text a while back..
@grok, generate this guy getting beheaded
no I meant that being what they were going for
I gotta say, the lore implications are funny. how small must that god be if he has the time to constantly appear to one of his faithful to boss her around
Maybe that god is Jergal, iykyk
I mean, there was eventually a reason but still
imagine if it was like the god of annoyance or something
It was the god of goats. So you’re not wrong
lmao
yeah that fits with goats
prolly not their intention but it's still funny as hell
baaaaaa
He's a lonely scmuck who has like one church in some backwater town in the swordcoast. Give him a break, showing makes him feel important. 😔
If anyone was curious the reason was that somehow my character was secretly the goddess of death and the god was just trying to control her
So was your paladin Oath of the G.O.A.T?
And the only reason the church wasnt torn down was due to a tax write off 😔
Wow thats extreme
Although now that makes less sense because he did nothing to discourage her from breaking her oath
Maybe the dm didnt want to push more than already
"GO ON, BREAK IT. Not that I would miss you, baka."
All the other gods must hate this one god now because now the Queen of death is just loose in the world
Wondering what I should do for my Arcane Party adventure will be
I’m guessing the quest could be to steal some very juicy knowledge of some kind
fight vecna for copyright and censorship laws
Maybe a true name for a Demon lord
“I serve the almighty Orcus, king of unde-“
“Oh you mean Jared?”
Mainly because getting a demon’s true name gives you power over them
Although I think 2014 had it as “the demon has disadvantage in all attacks and saves against you”
Deck of a few things.
Also you can summon them too
Well duh, they called your name
Already an item fun fact. Different name but same function
Orcus is a litte b and all his followers should enjoy slow violent deaths filled with prolonged suffering and misery.
It’s in the Book of Many Things
You say that like that already isnt the case for followers of Orcus
Aha jokes on you, they want death! /lhj
Yeah, thats just normal when you want to reach Undead status
Wait a minute I’m like a demon lord, just saying my name summons me /j
Jokes on them I turn then into perversions of their will. Bringing them back as servants to the Revenancers will. Undeath will be a prison, a life of servitude to a god not of their own.
May undeath serve them the same misery.
Can’t Orcus take control of any undead?
Ah, so they live in Florida.
summon them too
woe, 3 circle casting liches upon thee
Would be interesting to look into as there are multiple deities of undeath. And iirc multiple are supposed to be able to.
Imagine becoming a Lich, one of the strongest undeads, thinking you will finally have control over an empire of undead… but then you yourself become a servant
Orcus isn’t a god (not anymore) notably
IIRC his wand allows him to summon 30 of them 😭
An unassuming nerd of an arcanist is about to complete her proofs for an actual Magical Theory of Everything. She is brilliant and absolutely not an adventurer, she's just a researcher who is about to describe the formulae that will allow complete knowledge of ... Everything. No one, not even the Gods, are certain what will happen once she completes her Work, but most of them don't want to find out. Mystra and Gond may have had a hand in concealing this, perhaps, but as the Theory nears completion the rest of the gods have caught wind of it and are sending agents to put a stop to it. The party get caught up in the furor and have a chance to either stop it or help it complete.
No, its 3
Lady is writing the King in Yellow I see.
So wouldnt his powers be weaker than an actual deity of undeath?
Yes. Thats why hes only a demonlord
How many Gods of Undeath are actually in D&D I wonder?
Is that what that is? I'm not super well versed in ... Lovecraft, is it?
He still follows the 500 HP limit, but isnt restricted to zombie and skellies.
500 /135 (average HP of a 2014 lich) = 3.7037037037
I have read the entire king in yellow book and dont exactly see a link here
Older than Lovecraft by a few decades
Gotcha so when I make his undead perversions of undeath under the servitude and will of a different deity wouldnt that take precident over his pitiful will?
what am i missing?
depends. Hes known to be able to kill gods still if he bothers to do so
Hauster is older than Lovecrafts work?
i dont remember any part of "theory of complete knowledge counteracted by all the gods"
indeed its from before lovecraft
Either way I've heard of The King In Yellow but don't actually know much about it.
Oh whoops I’m talking about 2024 wand of Orcus. Which has no HP cap
king in yellow is weird. i love it but its weird
Will def be wild fighting and attempting to kill orcus in our campaign.
Yeah and also Hastur isn’t even the King in Yellow. Just the guy we know was affected earliest in written history by the King in Yellow.
the original work doesnt even really tell you much about the king
Crib notes version?
im not sure what that is so probably not
There is even a setting the King in Yellow talks about that is even older than the King in Yellow book
i think it was 6 stories and short bits between each that were very quick
Rephrase: May I get a short summary of the idea?
dear god, how did i miss that
it handles themes of insanity and strife, sometimes not mentioning the king at all, depending on the story
The idea is the King in Yellow play book makes you go crazy from reading it.
Between each chapter is a piece of the play.
The short stories are about people who come across the book and read it
And how they fall into Maddness.
the play is also not actually read out in the stories. the play is "the king in yellow". its not actually the book
To be fair to you I don’t anyone would expect an item to be able to summon 30 liches
Hmm .. I'm not sure I would say my idea had similar themes.
i dont think all the stories even include the book, right?
there are 2 that iirc dont
Welp... I hope the Sunday party doesnt find Orcus with his Wand then
Good question my memory is failing me
weird though the ones i dont remember it in are the ones i liked the least
Yes. Let's not, please and thank you.
Maybe I’ll do another “King in Yellow” story for an adventure
:3
the one about the bombing runs and wartime and the one about the romance with one of the women
i dont recall the book being in there
the falconer maybe had it but idk
Dont worry, my Memento Mori campaign has to worry about Orcus, yall got bigger feesh
Bigger than Orcus ...
Dear god…
Hes only a Huge creature
the stories inbetween dont mention the play at all but the first one reads part of it out i believe
Godzilla_Roar.mp4
i gotta find an audiobook to listen to king in yellow again
You know Koa would want to study Godzilla.
Dontcha know it
Goji is actually one of the bigger inspirations of the campaign
Annam's Cradle is essentially Hollow Earth
is this official lore?
biding my time until session
The stuff between stories is pieces of text from the Playbook
I end up scrapping two character ideas and am in the middle of remaking them
Annam's Cradle is a location in Bigby's yes
I made my first Kaiju friend!!
that makes sense
Only act 1 as Act 2 is the “going crazy parts”
great
I'm playing a halfing wizard named Bingle who's very very smart but has like 3 charisma
Bro does not go outside
does not go outside would be 3 CON imo
Bingle doesn't like talking except when it's demons giving him magic secrets
Good morning, Hebrews and Shebrews.
hoeh
I also got a dwarf fighter which is nice but their AC is tinyyy
-# how tiny?
9 ac
Wait. Dwarf? Tiny? BOOK OF GRUDGES
He's got LOW dex
wynaut wear heavy armor
Too poor :<
dont fighters get an option to start with chainmail?
I'm using a different system :>
Oh
just counted all the seats i made on my battlemap, theres room for exactly 670 guests
crashes out
Yeah it has a shop where you purchase items and unfortunately I'm too poor
I do however have a two handed greatsword and alot of strength and con
What kinda battle are you doing lol
Laptop or iPad. Dry cough and is sick all the time
its the dining room of my guest house! if my players find out that the cooking crew are intruders, they can choose to fight em here
just sent it in #dnd-maps
670 is allota guys xD
Very cool I like it
Are the cooking staff like bandits or something?
my party is there to steal some mcguffin from the landlord there, and im going to make the cooking staff want that artifact aswell. other than that i havent really thought about anything about them yet so suggestions are welcome!
Ohh very cool
Heist!
I rlly need to run a campaign where it's a heist crew and they can pick through different heists and missions in their hideout
24 rules, how many 5 feet square does a bastion barracks (one large room facility) have to house 12 soldiers on 6 bunk beds, assuming 2 squares for each bed, leaving room inbetween them and space for other stuff? Sorry for sounding complicated.
Bunk beds
Beds with two etages.
Players yearn for character creation
why else would level 1 characters be so squishy
also... bunk beds are usually like, at most 8 ft
Yeah, but one square ingame is 5 feet and I need to make those barrack rooms not cramped. Hate hyperfixations at times like these.
depends on the soldiers tbh, a gnome army and a goliath army will have massively different needs. just take the average soldier, take that and up the size by 1 feet for the bed, say theres 2 soldiers per bed (bunk bed) and then ull have ur quantity
can't you just put them all in one big king sized bed?
preferably with rose petals sprawled about
make them take meth and skip sleep all together
I´m trying to build a gatehouse, not a royal harem.
I don't see how those two are mutualy exclusive
but besides the point, how many barracks do you have spread out throughout the city, or is that the only one?
is it the entire complex or is that all squeezed in a single building?
Fair point. And I´m trying to but that Greyhawk City Citadel to paper as an exercise and work for later. That gatehouse has two "towers" around 100 feet into the air and I need to fit storage, armory and a ground level for guard duty in there. Just wanted to get the soldier quarters out of the way. I currently got 25 square feet rooms envisioned, but that gives 4 bunk beds at most before things get cramped. And according to the wiki the gatehouse can house a 100 soldiers.
what i really meant is that you can just have beds build alongside the wall continuously since thats how beds often looked like in barracs
walls are also not 5ft wide usually
House 100 soldiers or allow for deployment of up to 100 soldiers?
Tend to get this square stuff confused often. The floor plan has 25 5 feet squares, which I thought where 25 square feet.
they don't really need to sleep in the gatehouses because you know, they will most likely live inside of the city
yee, barracks are for easy deployment usually
In medieval times, they usually had their own homes and such when not deployed
In the past, nations often didn't utilize barracks when deployed. They housed themselves in the houses of those they conquered or were subjects of that nation.
That's part of the reason why the 3rd amendment even exists.
Building a barracks means building. That takes time and resources.
Btw, soldiers cut off from supply lanes and living off of the land is a bloody nightmare for everyone involved
It says that it can house up to 100, but I also don´t see the supposed gatehouse on the map, only the two towers and the gate build into the wall. Hold on, two rooms on each floor with around 4 bunk beds makes 16 soldiers per two rooms. Times 5 is 80, adding 1 more floor makes 96 soldiers, with maybe the 7th used for the last 4 and a commanding officer... Which leaves three floors for storage , armory and the ground level. Need to look up the average size for a modern barracks room then. Medic could be in the rest of the stronghold...
Ah, sorry for rambling but you guys helped jumpstart my brain, so thanks.
aye if its a gatehouse in the city, just delete the beds entirely or leave it at one room
soldiers have their loving families or at least a decrepit slum to live in
I would, but that would mean that they cross the city everyday from the slums to the noble quarters of the city, both at opposite ends.
wait, the gate opens up directely to the noble district?
interesting city layout
City of Greyhawk, the Grand Citadel. The noble and middle class districts grew out of the space inbetween the citadel and old city, which are now the slums and thieves quarters.
Literally the most repeated advice in the Art of War, btw
oh our favorite fiend is here
I know, it is working but oh boy is it a real nightmare especially for civilians
Oh absolutely. Medieval war requires pillage if you don't have good supply lines. Requisition the granaries of entire villages, leaving them to starve
pretty sure there was one guy in US that had an entire march through the enemy territory just living off the land during the civil war
I do also love how Art of War was basically written so the guy in charge actually keeps basics in mind, like outfitting their soldiers or feeding them,
A fiend? Where? I, a perfectly lawful good paladin, will smite them!
sorry, its my infernal calling again
i paid for the entire 999gold gem and i will use the entire 999gold gem
i crushed my X button.
Heavens, I´m really dumb. Just rechecked the map several times and apparently confused a few location keys. The entire time, I was working off the assumption that I needed to cram everything into the gatehouse with the gateway to the citadel. And I was looking at two different sources, one of which had an overlapping name. I can toss the soldiers into a larger barracks building within the citadel and not cram them up in the doorway frame. Feels like I wasted the past 3 hours now.
So, one of my players is in The Black Network, the Zhentarim mercenary company, not the Zhentarim Empire. Her boss (who is also her ex) sent her on a mission she hated, so she wrote a letter threatening him. He writes back a sternly worded summons but honestly reacts very gently compared to what she said. Now, she's trying to write HIS boss to basically tattle on him for being unprofessional. I don't know if this is the player playing their character as so totally unhinged and childish or if the player actually finds this to be, like, a fair and good idea. I don't wanna spoil this player's "chaos rogue" fun, but this also comes across as a bit ridiculous
... glad you found a solution
Dear Rogue,
A polite reminder we are a professional organisation, with procedures we are expected to follow, and standards that we are expected to uphold, I would request you bear this in mind before making any rash decisions.
I trust this is the last I will hear on this matter.
Warm Regards
Boss's Boss
Never got caught stealing but missed record keeping
I need guidance on how to run a tavern brawl? I'm unsure of how to run that encounter nor how to write notes for something like that
Loads of folks making unarmed strikes non leathal
I don't know about non lethal
You can choose to make any melee attack non lethal
Try The older DND module called Scourge of the Slave Lords
It has a very detailed tavern brawl
Im finally writing my character's backstory
first sentence done
"Noah Keyes was born at a very young age."
no shit haha
Its so traumatic already, isnt it?
"He was born of a mother and father..."
when he was born he was the youngest person ever
And he couldn't speak what was on his mind
he couldn't fend for himself
The first years of his life, he couldn't even walk
was he born covered in blood, not even having clothes on his back?
his first word, a scream
Played my Yuan-Ti Alchemist, Hilsuthiti Zhoskavich yesterday, he brought wine that he made to a gathering and made a good first impression, The Barbarian already really likes him.
Some elementals went a bit wild after cultist attacked so we destroyed them, I found runes on their cores that were some sort of control/command, this intrigues my fella so, while the party is traveling.. he might collect a few more cores...
I decided to make it outwardly clear to the party as players that this fella would be one of my less than good critters, I'm not telling them anything about his goals, though 🧐
random thought
is shar specifically tied to the moon or is she tied to darkness is general?
it happen, if need some help in the writing i can give some
She's the Goddess of Darkness and Night
She's also highly associated with pain and loss
Selune is the one directly associated with the moon and is Shar's twin sister
Hope that helps a bit :>
I’d worship Selune any day over Shar
I dunno, Selune's attitude/behavior is as fickle as the cycles of the moon..
She scares me a bit
I mean... can do basically the water deep intro
She seems nicer than her sister at least
Guys is aether a good character name I just made it up
||Some bad boys pick a fight with lady bartender etc. Idk if this is spoilers as its the first scene||
If so ill delete it......
wether its good or not depends on the entirety of the character
It’s a paladin
Sounds a little like Ethan so I think it works
Yayyy
What would be the harm if one person shot themselves at another with a cannon?
Aether is the upper air - the bright blue of the heavens. He is son of Nyx (night) and Erebrus (utter darkness) and brother of Hemera (day).
This is from Hesiod's Theogony, an ancient Greek holy text.
Oh that’s awesome
I think it's a great name.
Thank you!
Not exactly a holy text to be precise. The concept of "holy text" as understood by modern westerners does not really apply to greek hellenistic religious practice
Meh. Who cares what modern westerners think. 😉
Truer words were seldom spoken
skill checks like intimidation don't really have a clear consequence, do they?
INCUBUS!
my favorite fiendish fellow!
How art thou?
Define 'clear consequence' please
I am still not a fiend or fiendish in any way shape or form.
for example, becoming frightened or having disadvantage. The results of failing against an intimidation check are entirely up to the dm, aren't they?
It could go wrong plenty of ways
Someone takes it as a challenge, they report you to the law..
so up to the dm
Yup
much like any other skill check
I mean, most skill checks are more predictable than that
No in theory without DM fiat or specific features a successful intimidation check does not impose the frightened condition or disadvantage on anything. But all skills are deliberately somewhat vague in order to be more easily adapted to the situation by the DM
Yeah, it doesn't innately have consequences, but it's definitely a Charisma skill that should potentially have consequences as it's a very hostile action to intimidate someone lol
All skills kinda run on DM fiat.
yeah, but they tend to be more binary. Intimidation would mostly be used by me against would be hostile enemies
was thinking about the merits of having a path of the giant barbarian with expertise on intimidation
Could be interesting
Nothing really advantageous by being a Giant barbarian and intimidating
No class really has innate advantages to Intimidation
suddenly the 4m tall hulk tells he's gonna smash you and your pal into a bologna and throws +11 on the intimidation dice
Ehhhh…
2024 primal knowledge gives you advantage
barbarian gets to use STR over CHA while raging
When raging
That's a use of a resource, so it's not innately advantageous as you're spending more than you're gaining (typically)
I find it unlikely that a single intimidation check could end a fight altogether
so the rage can still be used for skull bashing
I’ve seen it happen
But that tends to be with weaker willed enemies like bandits
after some enemies decided that playing cards on the back of a tavern is a better activity than becoming an origami
Also, you're using the
✨ Influence Action ✨ Raw, so you'd lose out on an attack on your turn too.
Study Actions and Influence Actions are all, RAW, Actions.
Not ALL dms follow those rules, but it is something to consider
mine does, so either I skull bash or intimidate
It all depends on the DM and situation. Sometimes I will allow a successful intimidation check to convince a group of enemies to let you pass unharmed, sometimes the successful intimidation check only makes the most cowardly of the group run away, sometimes I have the result be that the leader of the group of enemies blurts out an important piece of information before the fight proceeds as normal
As always, the DM weighs the motivations and personalities of the NPCs on one side, the necessities of the plot and game on the other
And sometimes the balance is not just between those two things, but a third and even sometimes a fourth thing may apply to the decision process.
Comedy factor
That one does not factor into my personal decision process, but it does for some DMs.
It does for me a bit. Sometimes though it ends up great
For example, if the enemies have been extremely tight-lipped about who they are and what their mission is, a successful intimidation check may result in the leader of the enemies noticing their allies are hesitating and saying "Come on men, whatever they do to us will be better than what [name of their master] will do if we run"
And then that intimidation check has not influenced the fight itself, but allowed the PCs to learn two informations. The name of the master, and the fact that the minions are motivated by fear of what the master can do to them, implied to be worse than death.
does spell storing item require a spell slot?
You need to cast the spell yes
As for what that thing worse than death is, that depends. The master could be a necromancer, yes. Or they could threaten the families of the minions.
"You can kill me if I fight, but if I run [BBEG] will kill me and my entire family" tells a lot of information.
No, it gives you charges to cast that spell at that level equal to twice your int.
You can't upcast them from said item, though
man, I just managed to land a crit hit with disadvantage
Theres an item that isnt part of the artificer class
I was playing a game that runs on 5e, solasta, and my paladin just went and crit through a disadvantage
always love a clutch nat40
like
the spectral spider went straight to spider heaven after sustaining 53 damage
5 slashing 48 radiant
Classic
They said Spell storing ITEM, not a ring of spell storing, goober
I think this counts as DnD? Baldurs gate 1 enhanced is such a good but stupidly brutal game, so angry right now though lmfao. On last boss Sarevok and his 2 mage minions. They just keep casting chaos and my mage's dispel magic doesn't work ever. No idea what to do at this point, any suggestions? I have a paladin, (main character) Imoen (thief/ranger) a druid, Rashaad the Sun monk and Xan the mage. Might try doing invisibility/silence 15ft radius spell but would love some suggestions!
just been playtesting 5e after coming from 1st ed. Why are people regularly min/maxing upwards of 100+ damage per combat round?
It’s fun is some people’s reason. It’s really fun to make a strong build (I have friends who do it, but I’m awful at doing it so I don’t)
every game i have been in so far is rogue/ranger rogue soul knife, paladin autosmite machine.
Rogue Ranger is by no means min-maxing
I believe that is more powergaming,
Nor is soul knife
And no not even power gaming, rogue rangers are not by any means a broken thing
i donno sneak attack with a bow seems pretty op
Just got done a session and rip my halfing wizard Bingle who got crumpled by a minotaur before they could run
Nooooo
May Bingle rest in peace
wizards seem to die pretty quick
Nooooooo poor Bingle
They got kill a dark mantle and find treasure before they died so I'm happy
My casual dnd party is diabolical (attack dice arent included) im new to dnd
They see a toll guy and dont pay
Friend A: Lemme fight now
Me: your turn
Friend A: FIREBALL
I roll dice: 17 attack proceeds successfully
Friend B: im gonna smack him with my mace
Me: Rolls 11
Me: you hit one of the guards and the other survives
Friend C: i shove my staff up his ass
Me: 14 your attack is valid
Me: do you remove it?
Friend C: yes maximum bleeding
11, succesful but he survives
Again fireball
That guy got tortured😭
It is what it is sometimes
Consequences, or just tell your party above table
Yes communication is key
Also how did they not get freindly fired by the fireball lol
I had put a bounty on them and they got bounty hunters waiting next session
take 3 levels in paladin oath of the gienie before becoming a wizard, then take bladesinger. lol
I forgot💀
That’s quite MAD
Improvising is key
lol splender of the genie staking with bladesong, lol
then all your wizard slots become fuel for divine smite
too bad you cant stack that with shadow blade.
There’s no oath of the genie, I think? Idk. Is that 3rd party or HB?
There are warlocks of the genie
New Heroes of Faerun book
Oath of the Noble Genie
Ohhhhhhhh alr. I don’t do 2024 and I don’t do Faerun.
I do 2024, but sadly don’t got the new books. Just heard people talking about them
for bladesinger it is the only logical choice
I disagree
Bladesingers are cool vibes wise, but they’re not very good.
take defensive duelist and walk around with 30+ ac
There are, like, many other routes you could go for bladesinger
Yeah Bladesinger is kinda meh
Shows off why AC isn’t really as important as people think when played at least.
Uhhhhh 30 AC is good but some people have crazy modifiers to hit. 5e is not broken. Maybe 5.5e is? Idk.
5e is a arms race
Also, that 30 AC consumes a resource and a reaction
for a wizard that is acceptable
I’m not gonna say it’s weak, cuz it’s not, but it’s not “the only logical choice”
gets hit by a str save
if you have pal as a sub you need 13+
Guys, my dm says our campaign is gonna go to level 30
on a point pick for that combo your basically going 13 13 13 13 10 13
Wut
uhhhhhh… multiclassing?
Yea
Thing is, he’s forcing us to
But most of us don’t want to
That’s crazy
level 30 in 5e is possible if you extrapolate it's not that hard
Yea, like I wanna solo ranger, yes I know ranger is bad
Its not... thats such a dead meme
And he knows it’s hard to run level 20, let alone 30
We’re playing 2015 5e
everyone is doing level 20 nowadays and all the fights are hard actually.
Hunter pretty decent too
Weird, he warned me to be absolutely sure I wanna play ranger, because it’s a bad choice
he's working off a dead 12 year old meme
I’m using monster slayer
Gloomstalkers are really fun. I once made an assassin build using Gloomstalker, it did a ton of damage first round.
Monster Slayer is nice. Wish it was better mechanically, but alas
I’m using a kenku monster slayer, with the spell hunters mark, and 2 handed fighting style
Yeah I know I was just commenting that Gloomstalker was fun.
I know, just sharing my stuff ig
What level are you guys currently?
We’re starting at level 3, the campaign will start in a few weeks, he’s a first time dm, which is why the level 30 is giving me a weird feeling
... i fear hes getting ahead of himself
Same
Same
He’s an irl friend, and I’m a forever dm, so I’ve really wanted to be a player, since my age makes it hard to find a group, so I don’t know if I should leave
Forcing yall to multiclass or play
Multi class
Either way, if most of y'all don't want to, bring it up, there's no point if y'all won't have fun
I’ve tried talking to him
I understand that. I assume you’re a minor? I am too, it’s really hard to find games as a minor.
He said he can plan for it
Yea
Hottest take: I feel Gloomstalker should be baseline Ranger. Either that or Ranger has ranger styled maneuvers.
That sucks. I started an online all minors game, but I’ve currently got 5 people and I feel like that’s enough. Maybe you could do the same and ask someone else to DM?
Thats a whole Minecraft lobby.
Hello
In my group, 2 say they don’t have the creativity, one says they’re to busy to dm, and the last says that they don’t know enough to dm
How is everyone?
So by default I have to
Good, working on some Shenanigans
Could you try doing something online with other people?
I’m fine, I’m making a character
DND shenanigans?
