What’s the book?
You could do that if your players are on their way there. A friendly NPC also on his way to Carcosa, describing it as a vibrant place of civilisation. When they arrive, they see it's ruins and the NPC sees his own tomb and everyone realizes he's undead

Chambers reused that name as a nod to Bierce in The King in Yellow.

One i was thinking was in a Fighter character i am using, multiclass him to Warlock and saying in his lore that he after facing many kind of devil entities understood that the only way to fight monsters is being one himself or smt like that, finding a Patron and finally using his dark powers to fight back the devils.
i once killed an enemy by throwing a deep gnome teammate brandishing a dagger at the enemy
really he killed them but it was the best nat 20 ever

i harvested goblin organs for a while and the bag of organs helped me tame like three or four enemy wolves who assisted me and fell in battle to a bugbear

You can’t wear more than one of certain magic items. You can’t normally wear more than one pair of footwear, one pair of gloves or gauntlets, one pair of bracers, one suit of armor, one item of headwear, or one cloak. The DM might make exceptions.

It's just one piece. Those rules simply suggest that you can't wear two of the same kind.
So two robes would be stretching it.

I wouldn't even go that far. For magic items, items of the same kind are important. So if there were suddenly some magic earphones, they would still fall under the rule of "not two of the same kind". It's open-ended.

No I meant that sincerely. Common magic items are items that make some minor benefit but are mostly for show. Like a cloak that always billows in a stylish fasion even though there is no wind.

Though also in fairness, this is fantasy we're talking about. I'm sure you could play a character in high heels that is in no way hampered by them even without magic.

Should HRT be considered a magical potion?
I like to "ground" my npcs a bit more than that, but if a pc shows up with those, I ain't complaining. Pcs are hero material, so some rules don't apply to them.

If you play a changeling, you basically have HRT on tap.

Yeah for sure. I think there is lore about the elves being able to change their sex through a ritual? I'm not deep into lore, but I think it had to do with some moon ritual.
I'm not sure how I'd express that mechanically though, if at all.

Pathfinder 2e has a potion that would allow you to change your gender permenantly. That came with its own controversy tho. I think it was really inexpensive or easy to come by or something, so it sorta invalidated a few trans stories. Its hard to fight to be authentically yourself when that dight ends upon getting 20 bucks.

In this case it's more up to DM to come up with this since on your site there is no real way to do this I fear.
To be honest, you can just put in a magical effect or curse that gradually changes your body from your backstory, since backstory stuff doesn't exactly hold to the same rules
Withoit delving terribly into spoilers, I always felt Nott the Brave's storyline (from Critical Role's second campaign) was a pretty sweet transgender story, even if it had literally nothing to do about the character's gender.

Unfortunately there's no way to sort by "has material components with a gold cost" on DnDBeyond. Best we got is sorting by "has material components"
Unless you mean the very, very niche Royalty component from Acq Inc. In which case, just sort by "has Royalty"

Soo either something really big is going to be released, they don't want to delay another book by over 100 days, or nothing will be released in 2026 and we have to wait for the official release of the unearthed arcana content until 2027
I see a question mark so I'll explain but its irrelevant. Acquisitions Incorporated is a book that came out a while back which introduced a new spellcasting component: Royalty. You have to pay royalties to use some spells, casting them immediately removes some money from you.
I don't think its a very good book tbh.

We can make some assumptions for future releases. The Arcane Subclasses and Subclasses Update Unearthed Arcanas imply a Xanathar's Guid/Tasha's Cauldron style "PHB 2" in the future. Psion and Apocalypse Subclasses heavily imply a Dark Sun book. The Horror Subclasses implies some additional setting, maybe Ravenloft, maybe Magic the Gathering's Innistrad.
They would not let a fiscal year pass without releasing any books.

I think they might be just repeating it, but doing it the right way
For example, the 2014 corebooks had issues that plagued the system for years, the 2024 ones only issue is the reading comprehension monster.
2015 had the worst splatbook in 5e to this date for one of its oldest settings
2025 has one of that settings best splatbooks in 20 years.
i'd be interested if it's more a campaign module or a setting guide, or even both, like VRGtR vs CoS. It would be good to see a new proper adventure module with 2024 rules. It's mostly anthologies or settings so far.

So this isn’t a pipe dream so much as simply what my campaign is, but in session 4 of my campaign, the party encountered a generic evil death knight looking bad guy, who spoke one sentence to the party: “Stand and Fight” before fighting them in an encounter which they believed to be on the verge of a TPK. And those three words are going to take the party on quite the journey.

Although I do like making nobles, just not royalty, as sometimes it’s useful to have a well-spoken citizen of high society to be in the party
I have a noble in my party rn, they’re quite reliable
Besides this, I'm a huge fan of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and that band regularly drops some insane lines in their songs. I fully intend to incorporate their lyrics as descriptors in my games.

I try to find thematic meaning to the names. Cyrus was named Cyrus because that just means "Fire" and he was a Fire Goliath. Hope is named Hope because she's a Tiefling, that's her Virtue Name, and she wants to inspire hope.

Bardic inspiration is neat, but they're also a full caster and get plenty of tools from their subclasses to be excellent at other things.

for the most part, your Bardic stuff can be done with an instrument, so no speaking necessary. Bards do spellcasting, and a lot of spells have Verbal components, which is where you might get mixed up

It is an "Indiana Jones" campaign, basic race for a mcguffin, I intend for a majority of puzzles to have at least part of their answer hidden within scripts of this custom language of mine, of course history checks and intelligence checks aside, I would really like for this language however to have sound structure in real life for both my peace of mind and for two particular players of mine that are lore gurus
In short, I am adding it as a means for the perceptive of the group to expedite solving puzzles as an alternative means to find the solutions

To summarize without going into the rabbit hole, I have designed it such that separate phrases arrange themselves via a particle which we will call "X", it has variations that determine what relation Phrase A has to B, but it itself has a phoneme, which, for the purposes of speaking, makes the language sound a lot like wordsoup (Edit: Coupled with the fact I am using VOS makes it a very hard read too)

Making character's with disabilities is somewhat tricky in that you want to make sure you're handling it sensitively. On top of that, charactes with communication issues tend to be more disruptive than is worth it. Unless you have a mature group and a DM who is working with you to make it work well I would suggest not doing this.

The use of a letter makes it more novel and thus memorable.
If it was just a number for every module's map refs, folk might get confused. The letter helps segregate it in the reader's recollection with a nod towards the name of the module.
If there are more than 100 rooms and areas in a book increasing numbers get messy
(saying S4 makes it more easy to see it is in the spire room 4)

i think most dms will be fine with switching to poison cause poison is a terrible damage type
just putting it out there as a warning before you try, since a LOT of creatures in the monster manual are immune to poison
but if you already know the campaign will be mostly humans, or homebrew stuff it could be okay
it's also the case that there's not a lot of things that benefit from you doing poison damage the same way you can buff fire or radiant or such

If you're in a game with Giants, Dragons, and Humanoids being used pretty regularly, you can use poison quite alot

And none of the standard giants are immune/resist it either
Yeah. You want an ethics-free enemy, they're easy grabs. They just happen to come with immunity - and it's not like there are many other candidates for DoT effects aside from maybe fire, which tends to be weak and in the case of fiends, unsurprisingly ineffective.
Yeah Fiends, Acid is a pretty good one to catch them off guard
Tho you have to be a Sorc to do Acid damage meaningfully at higher levels
Poison would be pretty good in a game where you're fighting the cult of the dragon
Since they're mostly humanoids, and dragon-type creatures

It depends on the nature of it. Something like a steam vent vs a lava stream vs a fire bolt vs a vat of burnign oil all act a bit different

i just would not try to do non-D&D-fantasy media characters in 5e in the first place tbh
But Vi in particular has a shield that recharges over time, she has the ability to heat seek into enemies, she deals more damage based on her higher HP, etc.

Recreating some of the spell-like abilities that work as 'passives' in other games tends to function well with arcane classes. But if theyre particularly Martial coded, Artificer sometimes fits the bill.
It's easier to make League champions as monsters than classes though lol.

Light Hammers are great for reflavoring into stuff. I've used them as iron rings worn on the forearms as well as Olympics style discuses.

I need ideas for a d12 table
D12 table for/of what?
I'm trying to think of a Fate Monk Subclass, and each feature uses a different die. For example, the d10 is used for rolling a damage type to change the unarmed strike to. I'm unsure for the d12, so I'm wondering if there's a mechanic or feature that uses 12 of something.
Barbs use it as hitdice
Could think of stuff like riders (on attack, deal less damage but prone/pull/shove/grab), movement (shift away, move after, move with).
As for things which there are 12 of there are 12 classes in dnd iirc
Or just things like advantage on a next attack on a 12.

Pathfinder is inspired by older editions of D&D /teasing
PF 1 = D&D 3.5 + A lot of brewing. PF 2 = D&D 4.0 + A lot of brewing.
Though they also decide to recreate 3.5 including the mistakes it made, which was maybe a bad call.
PF 2 sometimes does feel like it does things differently only to not be D&D, but its overall a cleaner system than PF 1

Most of the things PF2 took from 4e were positive. Action economy designed around points (or at will/daily/encounter/etc) and a focus on broad specialization at the core class level gives both of them a very similar core. Most of the things PF2 does differently than 4e are things (like saves, for example) which its translating over from 3.x / PF1.
For reference, the lead designer of PF2, Logan Bonner, worked on most of 4th edition D&D at WOTC >_>
yeah i definitely prefer to see pf2 as this hybrid child between 5e, pf1, and 4e. Takes a lot from all of those

from my meager pf1 experience, id say casters get 5e's Quality of life stuff like not needing dex for ray spells

There's a magic item called "shield of the hidden lord" and I just wanna make sure I'm understanding correctly. In the description it says "While holding this shield, you gain a +2 bonus to AC and resistance to fire damage." Does that mean it's a +4 AC total because it's a shield? or just a +2 to AC like a normal shield
Because shields already give a +2 AC so I'm not sure if it's saying it's an additional +2 if that makes sense 😅

Like incubus said, it can disperse mists and fogs and blow out candles
I had a moment personally where enemies was throwing grenades at us and I was able to use gust of wind to flick some of the grenades to the side
It's kinda like mage hand where it's about how creatively you use it
I once used it to prevent an apocalyptic ritual by blowing out the candles around the summoning circle

And we have almost lost half a dozen fights because of a fog obscuring the place or poisoning us.
It also just pushes and slows things down too
Depends on the spell. But yes, messing with the opponents' material components can be the poor man's counterspell
The broke man's version of counter spell is putting your finger to their lips and holding their hand, that way they can't use verbal or somatic components 😜
I once just broke the hands and fingers of a wizard we had to capture alive.
