i am so confused as to what you are asking me
ok haha wait
you can only apply if you do 3 a levels by the end of year 12
since UK unis require 3 a levels minimum
is it alr if i dm you?
sure
are you college searching? or asking something related to the admissions process
College searching
oh okay
I have been keeping my eye on CIA new york and CIA singapore
i cant help since i dont know anything abt the subject but i would suggest you mention what youre looking for [country, location, what subjects you take / have taken, your grades, any unis youve already had your eye on, etc]
so other people can help you better
oh and your budget
So preferably i want my uni to be in the United States, Currently i just got back my IGCSE results, 10 A*/11, I have not yet submitted my IB choices yet, i have had my eye on CIA New York and CIA Singapore, i have no Budget limitations as long as i get a good score in my IB.
alr well unis in the US are mad expensive esp for internationals so keep that in mind
and if you're applying to the US, there's a lot more to consider, like your extracurriculars and awards/honors
yeah and the fact i am Indian Passport makes it even harder
so am i đ
I dont take many extra curriculars, like on paper. I do play lot of football, cricket, basketball
then i have done LOTS of MUN'S
nice
the fact that youre doing ib next year will probably be of help
yep
No my IB is strarting in 1 month
if you're doing it alongside AS/A2 then definitely
and i have not submitted my choise yet
if youre shifting to IB then still itll be good
we dont have that stuff
oh okay
we dont have a choice of AS
like, how many? for how long?
its directly IGCSE done, then IB
nonono
20 Digital Conferences, about 5 physical, and 12 best delegate awards
thats amazing!
that's something to consider, i dont know a lot abt culinary arts, but US admissions are super competitive and they admit holistically so ECs are super important
ik
thats cool! thatll help
well i do play sports, just not good at any
so what would u suggest to be my Subjects for IB
i have already fixed History HL
then Hindi SL
Chem and Physics i have not decided if its SL or HL
idk again i have no idea abt culinary arts but i hope someone else can help you out!
Eng Lang - Lit SL
yeah i hope
i do
i have no clue about it
so how does it go?
in the US?
you generally apply through a platform called commonapp
not 100%sure
do you know anything about UCAS
lol i wish it were that simple
i have never heard of that
oh okay
that's the platform for the UK
well anyway
so there are a lot of colleges in the US you can apply through using commonapp [like 200 or something ?]
Just to let you know, by Family Laws, i am abided to never set foot on Great Britain for any reason
for colleges that don't use CA, you'd have to look at the coalitioon application or apply individually
oh okay
wow thats a lot
so there is like a coalition of uni's?
so if youre lucky enough to have all your colleges on commonapp, you can submit stuff like your commonapp essay and transcript centrally
ah
they're just platforms where you submit your applications
assuming we're still talking about CA, you have to submit
CA? or u mean CIA?
a commonapp essay [an essay about yourself, 650 words max]
CA. commonapp
Topic?
nope
you as a pereson
for example mine is about my adaptability
its usually focused around an event that you went through and how it changed you
something unique that just kinda is essential to who you are
oh
there are prompts
well, im not sure of any
as in?
thats okay, you have time lol
2 years is not a lot,
actually 1 year
us applications go early
i dont recall them exactly but one is like 'talk about an event in your childhood that shaped you' or smth
i know
oh so do THEY give you the genre?
but as for your essay, you should be able to start it in the may of y12
they give you options. you pick one
so its not like a 1 sitting write is it?
definitely not
ive been working on mine since may
well thats just one part of the application
you have to list and talk about you extracurriculars [up to 10]
your academic awards / honors
10??
HOLY SHIT
oh
if you have more then basically you choose 10 of the most important
wait so these extra curriculars, do they HAVE to be with the school?
MUN's?
thats up to you to decide
yes
i can tell you some of mine as an example?
if you're still confused
also i heard doing MUN's boosts ur chances of getting accepted?
yeah sure
well not MUN specifically
but it's an extracurricular and shows you're a well rounded student
oh so some of mine are playing the piano, doing MUN, writing / editing the school magazine, writing research in maths, writing research in machine learning, and cofounding a gender equality initiative
so like varied stuff
oh and DofE
if you've done that
Can Teaching a Subject be an ExtraCurricular?
yes
oooo
lmao, i teach History to 9IG and 10IG batch
oh wow
i doubt ill hit 200 evenđ«
you have to, it's 350 minimum
youve barely even started relax
^
a year is plenty of time
if youve just done ig, you have time
i would focus on your grades and extracurriculars
Nah i cant take any risk
ive got one shot at this
the actual application doesnt open until 2022 august for you
so its not like you can start
but i can prepare
its not an exam
so do most other people, but worrying before you even start will do no help
you can start your essays but the prompts change yearly
Hmm
you should focus on the parts of the application that need to show growth over time, like your academic performance and your extracurriculars
what goes into your application is only stuff from y10 - y13
Yr13?
i thought its only till Grade 12?
aka grade 9-12
Ohhh
they will look at your grades after you get accepted
though unless you fail massively they wont rescind you
like 4 Ds or something
wait so that means, before my IB grades come out ill already have my uni?
your applications are due in the january of y13 [grade 12]
Rescind?
when do IB grades come out
I have not clue what that is
eg if i get into stanford with 4 As at AS level and then get 4 Fs at A level they can retract my offer
Even if you are accepted/
yes
because i failed everything at A level
if i get like 2As and 2Bs though they likely wont. it generally only applies if you majorly fail
i hope that's just an example
wait, then basically when i apply to my Uni, the only grades i can show is my IG grades
i don't know since i don't know how IB grades work
so basically my college acceptance will depend on my IG grades?
probably not, they look at semesterly grades [if you have those] and predicted grades too
it almost never depends solely on ig grades
they will ask for a transcript from your school and your teacher will submit every official grade you've received in that class
no no, u said that before the IB results come out i can get accepted. So when i give them my academic exam results, the only ones i can give is IG, in my case since there is no AS and A level in my sch, So thus, my Uni Application Depends on my IG grades
well, there will probably be mock exams or such in between
including internals?
There will be ToK and CAS
im guessing cuz u took CBSE right?
no?
Oh nvm
oh ok
so yeah, if you have a school counsellor or something, i would advise you talk to them or your teachers since theyd have a better idea
i can only tell you about the application process since ive been doing it myself
School dosent re open until 1 month
and i am already stressing out
you will definitely have to submit predicted grades tho
oh yeah
there are probably blogs or so for ib students applying to the us
i didnt know if you had those lol
IG we didnt
dude you have an entire year. theres no point, you cant actually start filling in anything rn
i only heard about them recently
^^^
alright
so
you get nothing out of stressing over essays and such. focus on your grades
what you can control
maybe ill celebebrate for now then, CUZ I GOT 10 A*/11 boiz
but start looking into the process in may or so! that's a a good time to give yourself a headstart
oh cool
congrats!
English Literature just fucked up everything thp
alright
Thanks!
lmk if you have any other questions abt the process! you can ping me in this channel
theres LoRs and stuff too but again, focus on what you need rn, and congrats again
Anybody gone to Aga Khan uni in karachi from KSA? I need some help to understand what the requirements are.
@tranquil summit what is the minimum grade required in english language to get selected to an uni
Depends on the country
And you don't need to have it in IG, you can just do an IELTS in the summer after AS
If you're going to India tho you need to take AS EGP in grade 12
thanks
Nws
How is the UK for after uni? Are visas really strict? Heard itâs hard to become a pr
10 years to settlement excluding the time you were on a student visa
hey, yes i applied for the entrance exam, im going from uae, wassup?
Does anyone know anything about Ryerson university in Toronto? Guess i gotta start caring about universities again so if anyone has any info about it or knows someone who went ping me :<
i have a friend who's going this year if you have a specific question?
Yus
Ask away
or not
e10 university is prolly the best
does anyone have any information regarding TUM management and Technology in germany?
What information do u want specifically
Because most of the information required is posted on the website
just realised the question was too general lol
im just looking for whether an AS in german/english would satisfy the university entrance requirement of having a university entrance qualification in german/english?It probably has to be an A level but i want to double check whether an AS is accepted or not
afaik AS English Lang is generally accepted
Hopefully
I emailed the admission department
But they could take a while to respond so I figured I'd ask here just to see if anyone has applied there with A levels
can 2 AS subjects be considered as 1 full alevel?
perhaps
wh-
No
a full A-level is basically 2 years of 1 subject
And you have to do 3 full A-levels for university
So 3 full subjects
Minimum
Depends on the country
germany for example, they take 2 AS subjects as 1 alevel
So if you take like 2 full alevels and 2 Aslevels thatd be considered as 3 full alevels. However, thats in germany. I was wondering if the same thing applies in canada
I cant find information online about it
So I was correct

"In Europe and the UK basically accepting a student who has completed Year 13 for direct entry as the prerequisite. In that case you will start with the foundation in engineering then you will enter year 1 of the University. In Canada, USA and India you will be eligible to enter year 1 of the university as you achieve the minimum entry requirement of the university. In Canada some universities require a student to start with Mechanical engineering and to specialize with Aerospace in the second or third year of university." Can someone confirm this? First im hearing about this
Im completing A level(AS+A2), Isnt year 13 like grade 12 so in that case i wouldnt require an additional year
"In Canada some universities require a student to start with Mechanical engineering and to specialize with Aerospace in the second or third year of university."
I have never heard of this
i dont think that is correct
yea, ive talked with reps from a few unis and they havent mentioned this but what about the foundation year? isnt that for students who dont meet academic requirements?
no
foundation year is for everyone
i know for mcgill, you can skip the foundation year if you come from a levels or like IB
but other universities a common faculty foundation year is mandatory for all
oh so is that why most courses are 3 years in europe?
Engineering is 4 years everywhere afaik
is university of toronto known for its MD courses?
yes
do I have to complete a foundation year or can I go directly?
you need to do your undergrad first
3-4 yrs of undergrad
and then apply
so university of toronto does not offer undergraduate programs?
nvm...just understood
no
nope its 3 years in europe
im pretty clueless on which uni's to shortlist, i plan on doing cs and specialising on cybersec later on
i was thinking of singapore so NUS or ntu but are my grades good enough
cos almost all foreign uni's are expensive and without financial aid or a scholarship i dont think its possible either
im also open to unis in the us or uk
if you're looking for finaid then US probably isn't it for you
Honestly neither is the UK really unless your country is giving you something
UBC or western or MUN?
Finaid is only a US thing though lol
i think uk do as well but im not 100% sure since i havent looked into it
generally, finaid for internationals is shit though
there are also merit scholarships in both us / uk though if you feel your grades aren't very good you may not be eligible
Finaid doesnt exist in the UK for internationals. Its only for locals
Finaid or scholarships are extremely picky with internationals tho
If studying abroad, which country would be the best/most suitable for Biology & Chemistry-related majors?
depends on your definition of suitable; are you looking for research opportunities? job opportunities? internship opportunities? to go to grad school? and then there's the question of your budget and what else you're looking for in a college
depends on the major itself too, is it like neuroscience or chemical engineering
oh mb i didn't know that
Out of these which one is the easiest lol? for Aerospace engineering
cause it turns out that the courses are fully taught in English but you still need to show that you know a bit of german
Universities for pursuing actuarial science? Don't mind the location but they should offer international scholarships tho đ
Which uni is this?
no. Just curious what is better
that's entirely subjective
and depends a lot on your major and what you consider "better"
TUM
Oh okay
man i was thinking of applying for TUM next year but my current scores suck so bad
and also
What do you need? I canât find specific grade requirements
most of the people i know who work in helping with university applications don't know about the A Levels
can't also
i have contacted Saarlandes, Stuttgart and KIT but none of them gave me grade requirements
Yea but itâs similar to the German system, according to the website if itâs similar itâs accepted
Oh Iâm waiting for TUM to still reply
yeah it's kinda similar to the Abitur but whatever tbh
that's fine by me
now what i need to ask also is whether if i have the A Levels i can skip Studienkolleg
i tried asking them once and it kinda took forever
You know German?
i am studying engineering as an international student.
studying B2 rn
I donât understand the system, what do I need for the uni?
depends
For aerospace engineering
A Lvl?
DSH is exclusive for German international schools iirc
the Goethe Zertifikat is the German certificate from the Goethe Institute
if they are in your country then you can take theirs
Unfortunate, That sucks
TUM was perfect, âŹ600 fee per term, has AE, the course is taught in English but still has a German proficiency requirement.
well idk anything about either of the three, but as ive said before to people, maybe list out what factors are most important to you [your major, location you like, extracurriculars you want, type of community, etc] and people might be able to help you better
Is the nust merit list out?
What do the the asterisks mean?
So will the living cost and visa fee be given back?
Yeah it'll be given back
You have to pay beforehand coz they require proof of funds for the visa
Ah, thanks.
What are some ways to fund tuition? How can I get a loan as an international?
That idk lol
Hey guys! Has anyone been to Caribbean unis like Ross or St. George's? Or does anyone know about them? Like are they a good choice for med school?
I've thought of applying to UK and USA as well but it'll probably be wayyyyy harder to get scholarships there (understandably so)
Also can I apply right after Alevels?
For example, I saw in St George's website that there's a 5/6 year med program that i can join after ALevels but I don't see the same for Ross
So are there programs like this in different unis?
i don't know about these universities specifically but in most places you'll want to apply during your final year of school so you can go to uni after you complete your education
aah okayy that's good advice
at what point do you think I should get started on personal statement/s?
well i don't know abt the carribean but for US/UK, you should ideally have already started or be starting ASAP
if you're a year 13 i would suggest you really get onto your college research so you understand the process and can start applying!! the earlier you start, the more time you give yourself
By any chance, does someone know of any Indian student currently studying at Cambridge from CBSE/ICSE? How did they get AP predicted scores from their school?
Usually on the college board site, there's an option to send AP scores to your desired universities
Do you guys recommend signing up with admission counsellors so that they take care of the application?
imo applications are quite user-friendly, u can apply urself, also some counsellors take money, so why pay when u can do urself?
they can't really take care of the application for you since a lot of stuff, you have to fill in yourself
are you talking UK / US / Canada / somewhere else?
Europe mainly
The one I spoke to advertised that
Iâm not convinced by them and donât think they should be handling it but my mum is persistent on it
if they dont look reliable then dont do it imo
i never tried using a counsellor, i applied myself, so idk how that works, but as a matter of fact, at the end u have to do everything urself, whether sending the documents to counsellor and he/she uploads, or u urself do it directly
yeah i mean in UCAS and in the commonapp, stuff like ECs and your essays arent things a counsellor can write for you
Does anyone have a list of european universities with scholarships?
Theres so many unis in europe like that lmao
Do u know any tho lol
Same as you'd apply to any other UK uni tbh
Are you planning to come to Manchesterđ
mayhaps
Come to mama
Lowkey annoyed at the math dept for not communicating about module choices but don't mind me
I can find someone who's doing it for you if you want
inch resting
I'm in the math GC ykđ
INCH RESTING
:)
im surprised if someone is willing to help
People are nice man
Nws nws lmk if you want me to find a contact
cambridge vs oxford for math?
aite
I think Oxford's more selective for interviews
Hellooo @tranquil summit
um i got a question
How many a level subs do i need in general for medicine
Depends on the country tbh
India for example requires English along with Phys chem bio
In the UK, three a levels including bio and chem, people generally do Phys/ math as the third
Egypt requires only two full a levels, bio and chem but also A* in both + at least 6 IG A* iirc
oh well
oh no its 1 AL or 2 AS levels
or its 1 in engineering
idk ngl
I might do it!
Cam
But im personally biased cos im dng a levels
But also i got a more modern vibe frm cambridge than oxford
Idk how to explain it
It used to be until two years ago
ik a person who started on phys phil and changed courses cuz the phil wasnt well structured
and also essays, idk how much youre into that
oh shiet
but then again there are also lots of people who are still doing phys phil so
i see i see
What are the best UK unis for engineering? And can I apply for Engineering at some unis and math at some unis?
i don't think you can since your personal statement goes to all 5 [or less] of them via UCAS and it should be focused on your major
i could be wrong
oh ok
Then can I make my personal statement on engineering in general and apply for different engineering courses at different universities?
You can
oh ok
You can apply to math as well if you want, just that your personal statement has to be applicable enough
How do I combine both subjects tho? Can I like talk about STEM in general would that work?
I'm not sure what works tbh
I know mine worked but I can't tell you what made it work etc if yk what I mean
Oh did you apply for multiple courses as well? Which courses?
Looking at TUM, they have Aerospace in bachelor of science. https://www.tum.de/en/studies/degree-programs/detail/detail/StudyCourse/aerospace-bachelor-of-science-bsc
But then they have chemical engineering in bachelor of engineering
And then they have automotive engineering in bachelor of science
Iâm looking for aerospace engineering and the course is titled Aersopace and itâs a bachelor of science so what does this mean?
Is it not an engineering program or what
Look at the curriculum
Help
I didnt have an option to give my AS exams in May 2021 in my country and we had to move to October
so I'm gonna get my AS results in January and most unis I'm considering have deadlines before that
Is it possible to apply with no final AS or A2 grades and just predicted ones?
which country?
I haven't really decided
Are there any specific ones that allow this?
i honestly don't know :/ i don't know if the UK will
the US doesn't have any specific academic / grade requirements, so you could check out some countries there
some unis*
not contries
bear with me im a little slow today lol
I won't be applying to the UK or US but I will be applying to American universities that have campuses abroad
that's fair, i don't know any apart from yale nus but you should definitely check out their explicit requirements
and i suggest looking at student forums to see if there are others who have been in the same situation before
because usually, there are
Now I need help in finding US universities in the middle east that offer scholarships to international students
what course are u looing into?
Don't have any idea so I'm just adding a few to my list
I'm probably gonna apply to different courses in different unis and choose the best one that accepts me
not medical or arts tho
oh, i know about med unis, sry
ah nw
Depends on what you want to study. Thereâs an American university in lebanon and its one of the best, it contains diff medical majors if thats what youâre looking for. On the other hand thereâs one in egypt but from what I know it doesnt have any medical majors.
Both of them are expensive but u cant even compare them to American unis in the US
I think they do offer scholarships
From what I know the Lebanese one is for 10k$ per year
Egyptian one might be for more
But Iâm pretty sure there are other options in the middle east. Iâm talking from what I know
Theres some in qatar
Alright I'll check those out. Ty!
yeah I'm considering them too
that's number 1 on my list
probably gonna do that
deadline is on November 1st and I literally haven't done a single thing for my application
I havent started so everything that's needed lol
You have to write like 2 essays
commonapp and why NYU
thats all I think
Im also applying ED lol
they care a lot about extracurriculars and all that tho
do they ask for proof or something for those extracurriculars?
There are universities that are actual branches of other universities in the UK
Its like you have studied there but cheaper compared to the UK
Like?
Go on to any university website
And youll find branches and stuff
Im going to university of hertfordshire in egypt
I have to a foundation year bc I only have 8 olevels
But its for physiotherapy
Ah okay
Its cheaper than UK and u get to do a year in their actual campus
do you know any other ones like in say UAE or something?
So try to look jnto it
What are u planning to study
UAE wants like 1 alevel for medicine but i think itâs expensive
There's herriot watt in UAE
University of Nottingham in mayalsia
Tho I don't think any of these unis offer as many scholarships as NYU
Honestly i wouldnt recommend herriot watt in UAE knowing how shit it is
The people in the campus arent good either
do we need chem for architecture?
depends where you're applying?
generally i wouldn't think so but i would advise looking at the university requirements as they can differ
oh tysm
nw
Are virtual university fairs useful in terms of your application? Like can I add them in my extracurricular activities or something for uni applications?
I personally donât find them to be useful
And you canât add them to your extracurriculars, no
I find it better to ask a current/past student
oh same
Ye Oxfordâs was useless ngl
just thought they might help in applications since I have very few extracurriculars
Sadge
Attending fairs?
Isn't that just like attending an in person fair but on zoom where there are stalls and you talk to uni representatives
yeah lol
Enquiring about unis that you are applying for is not an extracurricular.
If you're involved in running one then it counts
yall ever self doubt your college list? i decided where i wanted to apply a couple weeks ago but now im really overthinking whether i wanna go to those places and whether im missing out on somewhere else
i did evaluate 30+ colleges and i did my research and everything so logically i know that there are many things i like abt these places and the reasons i chose them over others but. the doubt is always there ghfjgkhd am i just indecisive
I mean do u have any other place u want to apply to
i would apply everywhere i if i could
idk im just thinking abt like. am i missing out on columbia and nyu?
and im not applying to hong kong bc of the situation there but am i missing out on hkust or something
and there are probably so many colleges in the US i havent even looked at but am i missing out on those
I mean u can always check them out
If the requirements arent too diff from what you alr have
And u havent spent a sheikhs palace on sending admission letters
There wouldnt be an issue i think?
Also even then if u miss out on a place how much better would that place be
I feel like your always gonna miss out on something or the other, cause it's virtually impossible to apply everywhere
So you should be fine
i gotta write a bunch of extra essays
i dunno, thats really my dilemma
yeah that's true
just go with your gut and make the most out of any place you go to
What the orangutan said
Pain
that's the best idea im definitely overthinking this
ty guys!!
Yeah its fine just apply to as many unis as possible from your list
yeah im applying to 23 total
yep
Honestly, it's like that for every decision we make, so if you decide you'll make the best of it, you won't rethink it once you're there
how do you write 23 essays
I can't even make one
its not even 23........ its like 3 per college............
actually less than that total bc the commonapp is a mutual thing
and the uk only requires UCAS
and the UCs only require 4 piqs
how much time does each essay take on average
forever
i can reuse some content later on like in my why major essays
but it can take months
im writing 6 rn
damn looks like I'm never going to uni lol
if youre applying to the UK youll be fine
if its america my advice is just start early lol
are you doing A Levels in a school?
yep
oh so the counsellors don't help with that stuff?
My college list went from 15 to 3
Mainly cause of my financial situation
Legit broke, we canât give a few thousand so resorted to Germany(free tuition) and Netherlands(with loan) and safety as manipal. I also have my AS retakes in O/N and itâs slowing down my A2 progress and considering doing a few papers in may June. This would mean I wouldnât get to apply for January deadlines but for the 3 Iâm looking at: TU delft is dependent on their admission tests, TUM has a June deadline, manipal Iâm not so sure
So would it be worth putting my eggs in one basket and focus on getting accepted into TUM?
Fuck no
U have to learn language
Dont jus put everything into germany
Gotta have backups
Learning it and it doesnât require an intermediate level, though Ik itâs not easy, Iâm grinding it
But I donât have any other choice, canât afford the tuition
My dad is hesitant on loans
i'm really sorry :( financials are such a big issue for so many people and it really sucks
Yea it hit me hard, was really demotivating but just gonna have to accept it
And thatâs when I found about Germany
it's always a good idea to have multiple options where possible bc you never do know what will happen
obv if thats not a possibility then really focus on TUM
@odd night do you mind sharing which 23 uni's you picked. (Can i dm you about this)
hiya, i can share! its okay idm sharing here so dont worry
US:
- stanford
- carnegie mellon
- brown
- duke
- harvey mudd
- rice
- UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSC
- boston u
- vanderbilt
- reed college
- santa clara u
- brandeis
UK:
-
cambridge
-
i'm still finalising the other 4 lol but i'll be applying regularly to them so i have some time. probably durham too but i'm not entirely sure
-
and NUS
@odd night do you have no safety schools
I mean some of the UCs could count as them I guess
UCSC
brandeis
and SCU
and i will have a couple in the UK
i'm also applying early action to SCU probably so if i get rejected i'll add more safeties to my list for RA
Durham isn't that nice for intls tbh, it's hard to get to, small town
so i've heard :// i'm still not sure if i'd want to go there. i've heard the education is really good but the life not so much so i'm still considering applying
ty for the input i appreciate it <33
well, yes, but i can reuse content from previous why major and such essays. i'd have to work on why college and stuff though
Nws
id University of Dundee good for medicine students?
i think it is
hi....student aspiring foe medicine here....
any private candidate here?
or any private candidate gone to med school here?
is ryerson hard to get in to?
that depends on you lol
i have a friend going there this year
Im gonna be shameless saying this, it's not hard to get into at all
Unless you've failed courses in highschool
As long as you've passed your subjects you can get in
lmaoo its okayy i just wanted to know!
Ye
Yea there academic requirements are quite low depending on the specific majour. What i saw was a minimum C and B for some engineering degrees
Are you a domestic or an international student?
international
for both UK and US
Thought about applying to canada?
U can get more aid
i did but im already applying to so many places
i have relatives in the US
and my parents really want me to go there
finances r not an issue at all fortunately
yeah im rlly lucky
ye
what are some good unis in the us/canada that are generous with aid and scholarships?
sorry if this is blunt but the US is awful with aid as an international
the ones that tend to give you more are the real top unis with the low acceptance rates
barring that, purdue is one i know that gives relatively good aid to ints. idk what youre applying for but its known for STEM mostly
you could look at the claremont colleges bc i know a couple of people that got full rides
my cousin got a full ride to scripps which is an lac i think though im not sure
but they don't rlly give aid since they aren't big unis
yeah generally the US is a money leech :/
i dont know anything about canada but hopefully you have better luck on that end
yep thank you for your help!
anytime!
Purdue doesnt have aid iirc its a public university
Maybe consider Colgate
so?
it does have aid and is pretty known for being more generous on that front towards international students
Really? I didnt know that
https://www.purdue.edu/dfa/students/prospective/international.html they have merit scholarships not financial aid
International students can explore financial aid eligibility and opportunities at Purdue.
Hey guys, quick question. I graduate 2022 and have my A2 exams in march 2022. I have my AS in O/N (Ill be doing composite for chemistry) and and feel like May/June 2022 would be more suitable cause ive been so focused on AS that i have kind of dismissed A2. Now im not sure how I will apply for january deadline universities considering i may not have predicted grades in time.
what country are you applying for?
canada(not sure if 100% financially will be possible but wortha try) and if not that germany(TUM) however they do not give conditional offers, the application period is between may to july so im confused about whether predicted grades will be sufficient
alright in that case i can't help since i don't know anything about either of the two countries, sorry :/
no worries, thank you anyway
TUM is a pain, good luck. Thereâs very limited information, at least for AE,
They dont present a few of the specifics themselves
Going on the DAAD website might help
guys i have a q, if u mess up the december SAT and have to apply to the US, will the march results be out in time for you to apply with them instead?
what year are you applying?
2022
ye
dec is already too late for ED/EA admissions and is pushing RD deadlines, which are in january
it can take up to 4 weeks for SAT scores to come out and march is well past any application deadlines
if you are going to take and submit it, you need to do so ASAP and you should ideally already be working on your application
f the examination performances are documented by preliminary results reports "Statement of Results" or "Candidate Statement of Provisional Results" of the "Awarding Bodies" (examination authorities) and / or the "Examinations Centers" (examination centers), these can be used as a basis for the Decision about the university entrance qualification. However, applicants are obliged to submit their official examination certificates by the beginning of the second semester.
What does this mean?
The preliminary results include predicted grades?
if i get into this German uni, this will be a bigger achievement than getting into ur ivy leagues
No not really
U should the fucking ridiculous amount of ECs ivy applicants have
But getting into a german uni is sick either way
Was joking
I will murder you
Will end this misery idm
anywhere in the US at this point
ik people applying to the UCs with entire apps developed and sht
Yea thats my second reason for not choosing US
The first is obv fees
Even with fucking stipends
i can afford it but ion even wanna go
like
whats the point
everyone else is so smart
Theyre p pretentious from what ive heard
So dw
Honestly joke on them for getting a degree in stuff theyre alr âmastersâ at
And paying that much
Any UCL lse or oxford Econ maths or PPE students here?
@dark vigil ^
GUYS WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS CAMBRIDGE CONSIDER WHEN CANCELLING EXAMS IN COUNTRIES
@tranquil summit
bruh what
bruh y dont u understand tht
thn where shud i ask tht
idk chat lounge
ok
Not sure sorry
ok
Feel so bad for you guys đ
do NOT apply to Caribbean med schools
the US and canada do not recommend it at all
and you'll be in huge amounts of debt soon after
the quality of medicine is trash, they just care about money
hmmmm
is it better too apply too oxbridge or focus on imperial, kings, UCL. Cause iâm deciding if i wanna apply too cambridge or oxford but iâm not sure if itâs better too apply to the other ones. What would you say is better?
in the UK, you can put 5 choices into one application
so if you want those 5 can be Oxbridge + Imperial + Kings + UCL. however since all of these unis have high grade reqs, only do this if you're v confident in your A level grades or willing to gamble (e.g cos you have safety options in another country)
which universities in china are perfect for people who want to take animation courses
Japan
i should have known
i mean itâs not how you apply, it more about their teaching methods and which people preferred what cause i heard oxford and cambridge is old school in a way and imperials course is newer
this kind of matches what ive heard as well, however beyond that I dont have much more info in this respect
perhaps @quiet flame can help when he gets a chance to see this, since he did his course in UCL
U can't apply to both Oxford and Cambridge - u gotta pick one
yea i know you canât apply too both, I really just wanna find out the difference between oxbridge and others. I know cambridge is more essays and stuff but iâm debating if i even wanna apply too oxbridge rn or focus on other unis
Imo go for the places you like the:
- pedagogy
- faculty
- research fields
- vibes
Like try talking to someone who you know has gone there and you'll sorta figure it out
Although I'm kinda repeating what u said, i chose my uni by looking at the course content (although it's the same course, different uni have different approaches/ teaching styles/ exam styles, choose the one that suits u most). Look into their website on uni life and student unions too.
thanks all :)),
do you know anyone here that went to one of those unis?
Guidance on university recognition of Cambridge qualifications in specific countries.
So uh question
Is this referring to 8021 English? Or does this also apply to the 9093 AS English exam?
FUCKKKK
I DIDNT KNOW THIS
if that means AS 9093 is accepted, then can i grind it out by May June?
I've emailed Cambridge about it but idk if they'll reply anytime soon đ€·ââïž
i think EGP is not accepted but the 9093 is
What is the deal with 8021 anyways? Did Cambridge just not get around to releasing the A level portion of it?
EGP being 8021?
yes
Im giving my 8021 exam on october 4th as well. why is my life like this
do i drop out of it or what?
And they just changed the syllabus -_-
No idea, sorry
U also planning to go to germany?
same., we were pushing for 9093 at the start of AS but they said no. I wasnt even planning to go for germany then but everything changed
yea
very
still have no idea if predicted grades are allowed
some people say yes, others say no
Oh definitely not from what I've read
I think u'll have to wait a semester for those
but it doesnt make any sense, may june is when everyone gives their a levels. except india ofc.
I think I can do fine with 9093 AS cuz there's actually resources for how to study on it, but for the new syllabus A2 level material there's basically nothing lol
IKR
The results come out like one month after the deadline đ
exactlly
im going to link the website where it says you can submit results in ur second semester.
That sounds interesting
I dont understand this, arent statement of results the official results
but then the last line implies we can use predicted grades right
I think provisional results are the ones that come out on August 15 or something
I don't think those are the same as predicted grades
Find out how you can apply for a university in Germany. Visit our website.
then what are the official examination certificates
Also where are you applying?
well ive emailed uni assist
about the language
Ooh send me the reply plz
Altho don't they specifically have a line in their "contact us" page saying inquiries about course requirements should be routed to specific unis?
Looks like it
lol TUM says to use uni assist, and they state they cannot help you directly so they give general info
Yeah I tried emailing one or two unis about that
And all they said was
They would only consider my inquiry in the context of a full on application
Which...doesn't help much for me trying to figure out what AS/A levels to take
Damn looks like Iâll have to take a gap year
Fuck this life, I cant do this shit anymore
Thereâs always a hurdle or something screwing me over
Anabin is also confusing the hell out of me with this
If the classification according to the new version is more favorable, it can be used from the date of admission in the summer semester 2022.
What does "more favorable" even mean?
You chose international A level
Yep
this is actually so depressing. The amount of countries ive had to cancel out. now my only option is my safety option
Safety option?
Like the university where u know you will 100% get in just in case you get rejected elsewhere
Ah
Which universities are u applying to?
TUM
Aerospace
Oh nice, so do u have to take tests for each level or can I directly take an A2 exam
July 15th
U can take directly
Oh ok
I did a diagnostic test online and it came as A2
I think I'm around A2ish also
Any advice for practicing speaking German?
I've been trying to read news articles/watch daily new briefings to practice but it's been tedious
Anyone here from bangalore? I have to choose between St Joseph's and Christ. Which one of these two is better in terms of everything, from education to environment?
I think both are good so ig maybe choose the one which closer to you
Is malaysia a good place for higher studies
depends really. I did my A-Levels in Sunway College, Selangor and it was pretty good. But for degree, unless you go to University of Malaya or other such unis, it really isn't worth it
most private unis here just want the money
plus university of malaya is hard to get into if u aren't malay
So, are malaysian unis worth it? Depends on your course/major. Is it the best option? Probably not
Try your best and go Singapore instead
What's their email, I can't find it on their site
you have submit a query form and they will email you back
idk why i said i would "email" my bad
Where is their contact form? It just keeps looping back to the same page
Ah wait I found it
Ty
i know studying medicine in canada isnt cheap at all but is there some unis u guys know that is at a limit of 20,000$ or below annually coz im seeing higher
then that
U can check here
mcgill is 45K thats the cheapest i think
probably applying to canadian med is not a good idea is you are international
there's only 17 med schools and half dont accept international students
the others have like 5 spots for internationals each
nothing below 20K sry
what is the most affordable place in Europe to study CS?
@dense walrus uni assist respond to u yet? They just told me they can only provide me with binding information once they've processsed my application documents. Which...doesn't help me much.
đŠ thanks anyways
Yea same
Idk why they responded the first time
Welp
The first time?
I asked if predicted grades were enough:. They said no and gave a few links
But now theyâre back to a what seems like an automated message
Ah
Any ideas as to who to ask to clarify about A level language requirements?
I did email Cambridge but they were just like "check with ur specific uni"
And r/germany is giving me contradictory information...one guy is telling me English is accepted, another tells me it isn't.
Honestly just gotta apply and hope for the best
Well that's not much help for me deciding whether to take AS/A English
I'd much rather know if AS English is accepted cuz I'm self studying it and the A2 stuff is đŹ since they changed the syllabus
Yeah like my school doesn't officially support it
So I'll probably have to do it outside of them and self study it
Hello...
MBBS aspirant here...
id like to know what practicals r involved in MBBS.......cos although im not afraid of seeing blood im not so sure about the surgery part..
AS general paper is more than enough unless ur applying for an english language course
ok
According to this https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/programmes-and-qualifications/recognition-and-acceptance/country/germany/
Guidance on university recognition of Cambridge qualifications in specific countries.
The Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) has recommended that an A Level in Business Studies be considered for university admission; however, some institutions may regard it as a vocational subject. Accounting, Design & Technology and Thinking Skills have not been recommended for university admission so will, in all probability, not be accepted as one of the three required A Levels. In addition, an AS Level in (English) General Paper will not be accepted to meet the compulsory AS Level minimum in a language requirement.
They don't accept English tests that r done outside of an AS/A level
ok thts kind of but also really stupid
but check the website of the unis themselves as well
But I've read anecdotes on r/germany that they don't accept A level English even? Which is weird as hell cuz anabin doesn't make any mention of english not being accepted
Ah the thing is
They just point u back to the anabin page
And if u try to contact them about accepted A levels all they say is "make a college application"
Why do u guys need ielts for germany when most of the universities ask for german lang requirements
You need both
Well I mean depends on the course if itâs fully taught in German or partially
go to #đïžâroles-guide
Yo guys does anyone know if I can take IELTS after the October 16 deadline in UCAS for medicine and just include my IELTS admissions ID or no
UCAS usually checks your English proficiency first
so its better to submit earlier
i need an advice on going to university at the age of 21 possibly 22
my friends all at the age of 17 - 19 is going to uni and i feel socially weird
the reason why im going so late is cos i finished my igcse late and i moved school (in different countries) a lot as a result i had to go back a few levels
and i finished my IGCSE at the age of 18 and im taking AS level at 19 rn
next year (2022) i hope i get into a university but thats after my A levels so
so any advice in going to university late?
Doesnât matter what age you go to university
With your case you canât change anything, you are going to go to university at that age
i havenât seen anything like that but thatâs prolly my shitty research but even if thatâs the case, youâll still pass the minimum age requirement
but like im looking for a scholarship
most of them requires a minimum age requirements
If thereâs a minimum age requirement, letâs say 17. That would mean 17 and over
So you would still meet the requirements
I donât really know what you can do, maybe someone else can help with that. But try contacting the university and present your case and see what they have to say about that
what about As only?
Depends on the uni I think. Generally you apply with your AS and predicted A2. I donât know much so someone else is better off answering that
What country and uni are you looking at btw
theres one that i can apply and fit the requirements
and its in Russia
but i have to take some russian course
but maybe im thinking to do A levels nxt year
but we'll see
minimum, not maximum age requirements
ie smthing like u have to be >16 or >17 years old
applying to a uni, even undergrad courses as a 40 year old, is still possible
although for something like 40 years old it would be really hard to actually get in due to how different the schooling system was 20 years ago
but smthing like 21 years old shouldnt affect u
if u did ur A levels the year to a maximum of 2 years before u join uni, u should be totally fine
like everyone else has said, no
someone doing bachelors in Germany? I came to know that in Germany bachelors is free of cost even for international students. is that right?
For public universities yes, thereâs a service charge which depends on the university. Itâs in the low hundreds
how much time would we need to prepare for TOEFL?
If English is your first language then little to none
ok ty.
Helloo
Does anyone know the universities that offer scholarship for next year in Turkey
Which course are u interested in?
Hey guys if I take 4 a levels and succeed with 3 a stars and 1 c, will universities in the uk that only require like 3 a levels look into your fourth and reject you?
Well, consider someone with 3 subjects and got A*. Compared to him, you have an extra C! So you do have an upperhand.
What if like that c was a for chemistry
And the other a stars are for math and the other two sciences when I apply for engineering
I plan to major in engineering
Technically most engineering requirements either need biology or chem or compsci but Iâm still unsure about getting a grade c for my fourth a level
What is the minimum grades you need?
