None of these games expect players to spend 99.99 for every single new feature and either: keep it as paid only content
Or: have players grind out for more than a year to get to a workeable point
Most of these games offer a limited set of paid features all grindeable or if paid only they're cosmetic
I don't know how every single game operates so I could be partially wrong, but none of these games are f2p in the first place. WoW has a subscription requirement, Overwatch and Diablo cost money to own

And none of these float 99.99 packs like Scopely does and continues to release super broken content on a consistent basis

Would be such a great argument you're making, except...

Scopely doesn't expect you to pay for the content either. It's not like each arc is locked behind a paywall, and there's an entirely free track for rewards. They are MTX payments that are optional.

Destiny is another example of a live service game, which actually requires you to buy stuff to get everything out of it.

Overwatch is free now, with paid cosmetics / battlepasses, but that's where that ends. It's still a buggy with every patch, and balancing is constantly done.

Again, those 99.99 packs are OPTIONAL. The same as FO76.

You'd edited it after the fact, so I didn't see them, but:

• Grind yes, but accessible F2P. Not a valid argument for locked behind a paywall.
• Prime currency sourcing is often through other loops. They are not forever researches, but are designed to speed up loops, which are no longer required later in game. Optional.
• One of the drydocks has appeared in event stores, the other I will admit is paid only, but again - it doesn't stop you from progressing, it just slows you down. Again, optional.

I would agree with you if each update was locked behind an entry fee, but they're not. It is down to the player to weigh up the grind versus paying for content, and I personally have better things to spend my money on, and accept it will take me time to unlock stuff.

That is very different to what's the actual case
I can never compete with someone who buys primes, docks, fc slots, research queues (especially in g6), build queues, refits, ship abilities,... All unavailable no matter how much I wanted to grind
It gives them a very big advantage in every situation, every SLB, every pvp and pve encounter,...
So not only is the progress a lot slower, because those players are already at an advantage of winning grindeable leaderboards they get further and further ahead. Unless you spend an ungodly amount of time in this game and even then

Mattering is very subjective, and it's more than a few
Queues matter in g6 and very early on as they save you a buckload of speedups and latinum
All that research that you can do way faster ends up mattering
Ofc if you have a near unlimited supply of latinum having 1 queue won't matter, but the non or light spenders usually don't have an unlimited supply

Of course the idea is to encourage you to spend, but it isn't a requirement. It's about your own decision to wait it out or pay for it if you can't be bothered to wait.

If everything in the game was easy to get without spending, then there'd be no game. The P2P players fund the development and ongoing services.

You can still engage with the fundamentals of the content, you just have to be more tactical with how you approach it and use what you have at your disposal... Augment was doable without the Reliant, Aggregation without the Dauntless, Mirror without the NSEA.

@leaden meadow now I'm not completely F2P, but the only thing I've bought in the last 3 years was the Revenant, the last dock and the odd battle pass here and there, because I decided their optional value was enough for me to buy. I'm Ops59 about to head into Ops60 - my progress has been slowed because I don't want to pay for every new ship or prime or refit or tech, because I don't suffer from the FOMO of it all. I can hold my own in fights too, because I've made sure to fill out researches, officers and all the bits that come with it.

One of my alliance mates was making waves back when Arenas started, because he was a Level 56 smashing G6 ships with his Sanctus. He's spent very little in-game, but he's planned carefully around where he wants to focus.

Paying doesn't mean you're automatically great, it just means you're able to get to other content faster. You don't need the last dock, you just have to plan around it, it's really not that difficult.

The balance shifts entirely in their favour if they know what they're doing and spend. Then I can no longer win any battle
I'd love to be able to withstand 400B ships crashing into my base, even with perfect base defense I cannot defend as I'm missing a dock for extra officers and an extra defense platform. Not to mention the primes giving extra damage to them that I cannot get, or them completely negating any shot delay I have set up and was able to research with f2p primes.
Just 1 example of money.
So yes I can engage with most fundamentals of most content, there's so much still I cannot engage with.

There are certainly some things you can't get for free now, but they will come in later on.

The key phrase you said was "if they know what they're doing" - but that can be the case for F2P/UTP2P (Used to pay 2 play) players. Like I say, one of my alliances mates doesn't spend, and he's now Ops66 and still uses his Rotty to smack down Ops70+ players, who lets face it have all spent.

I'm not sure the extra dock would really make a difference there, but there's a reason why there's 7 and 8 dock versions of the Oceans defence. (Though, it's dead now anyway with the drop of G7)

Again though, none of the base access is locked behind a paywall, which is the point I was trying to make originally.

Just hopped in game. Within 5 minutes I've found the best update this arc. They colored the helps on buildings and research queue to be more visible. Finally something useful in an update. Now to check if they've added any additional bulk claims ( such as in legacy away teams or faction stores).

Well mine seemed to freeze after 5 hostiles. My ships still show as defending, but no new hostiles spawn and the outpost looks like it can be captured again.

just a speculation, if it helps them figure it out. i check all 3 indepenent 51 outpost systems. each had 2 active outposts, but not displayed above it like i saw in the 53 systems, but could just tell from the ships drifting. got the too many armadas notification. then i saw 2 ships warp out, presumably dead, and i was able to start the outpost

No, it shouldn't. Janeway's ability says what it does work on. It says nothing about working on players, invading entities or retaliation targets, so obviously is doesn't work on those. It works on the things it does say it works on. The word "only" is redundant when you're listing the things an ability does work on. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I do not understand how anyone is beating the Klingon outposts with that 8% hull dmg per round done to your ships. Even if you 1st rounded a hostile everytime, that 8% goes off on one ship. Meaning 72 hostiles is 576% total hull. You're not doing that with 3 or 4 ships around the outposts.

Completely agree the ability descriptions are very flawed and sometimes don't work as written, but that's not what this guy I'm arguing with is talking about. He thinks an ability description needs to say it ONLY works on hostiles and armadas if it doesn't work on other things, rather than simply saying what it does work on, and that if something works on hostiles and armadas, it should work on everything, including Retaliation Targets. Just totally irrational leaps of logic and wrong assumptions.
