It’s another overly complicated and horrifically buggy arc that they will try to smooth over with meh level comp chests and a ‘fix’ to reduce the player frustrations (and a ship you can buy of course). I cannot stand this Arc Runner’s work…. Every arc he does starts as hot garbage that gets offset by a good store. Were it not for the store, would you have done their other arcs?

Arc pt.1, horrible pain and suffering in some form, usually killing a new hostile that is just brutally over powered with events with stupidly high score requirements to really rub the suffering in. Arc pt2, "here's a ship that will make all that suffering go away, money please, and you better because 50%+ of the arcs events will require it." Arc pt3, event store, please don't quit, we have the exact same thing starting again next month!

A lot of things SHOULD happen. This arc developer should either be dismissed or removed from any further arc development. The milestones for this arc need to be set at much lower levels. The compensation chests need to be vastly improved, not just for this arc but for the multiple arcs where so many issues have been present. Will this happen....no. As for the boycut, I started that the minute this arc launched and will continue it until I see some changes. So no more Scopely store for me and no participation in this arc period.

Events that are easily can be maxed and doable within 12 hours. Stop putting players like me against players who can get 100 times more points because they have bigger ships and much higher levels than me. Guys, this is not a competitive PvP game. Once you admit that to yourself, you are freed from so many of scopelys horrible mechanics meant to influence rage spend. This is a building and ship progression game with a poorly implemented PvP subsystem. There are thousands of good PvP games out there for that itch that are skill based and balanced.

Scopely created a Player vs AFK or player versus miner game with zero risk and zero challenge. This is not PvP by any but the widest definition of the term. PvP requires risk in engagements, skill, balanced bracketing in order to mean anything worth bragging about. Arenas in the closest they have come and it’s not even close. Plus the rewards for PvP in this game are near zero outside bragging rights and occasional OPC loot. Players made roe because scopely didn’t create actually engaging or rewarding PvP content.

As an ops 66, I can hit low level 40 players. This is the same thing as a 20 year old fighting a cage match with a toddler. It’s not good design 🤣

I disagree. Take the launch of Mirror for example. There were great rewards for the Slb to "dock" the new materials. Scopely made it clear it was to be like Lat Monday. Mine and hunt miners. However, whales cried it was token and a Roe violation to do so, clearly overriding Scopelys intended idea for the event. This prevented active pvp types from scoring effectively. Sure you have a right to spend 100s to buy the newest toys, but I also should have the right to game as designed and hunt your opc as Scopely intended. You are incorrect, some servers are more pvp than others. Some have never won incursion cause they don't care for it, while ours only lost 1.

Winning incursions is great, but the rewards for winning is essentially one more subspace building pull in the store over the losing server. Scopely may have created PvP in this game, but they have done such a bad job at it that a huge portion of the user base ignores it. That’s not on the users, that’s on scopely. I'm not sure if this is changed, but a few years ago US server 14 was a complete Farmville server where they didn't even allow you to raid bases. A group of alliances enforces some of the most strict ROE rules I have seen on any server.

The lag isn't from server populations I don't think. There's some common things that happened today that make me think the issue is not with the individual servers.

I think anytime you open a chest in the game it has to authenticate you through the login server. When the chests and factions, and refineries had issues, the website also had issues.

So I'm wondering if the issue was more with the login & purchasing system versus the actual servers… But I could be wrong because I don't know how they're set up

There's some other weird things going on too. So who knows. I'm a programmer, and I've been in IT too, but it's impossible to know without knowing their layout

I think they do, and I think they are dealing with very old buggy code that they have never gone back to fix both on the game Client and server side. They seem to fix game breaking bugs, but leave a lot of the performance bugs alone.

And when you keep adding new features onto old code that hasn't been fixed, you will eventually get to a point where things start generating errors, it slows down, yada yada yada

As a customer, outside of this game it's been my experience that "maintenance" actually fixes issues, bugs are identified quickly and players get treated better.

That's what I've told a lot of people on here. That it's impossible to tell what the problem is with this game. Is it lack of programmer skill? Or do they have fantastic programmers, and Management is putting them under non-realistic deadlines which causes sloppy coding. And often with unrealistic deadlines, they won't allow the programmers to go back and fix the bugs that the testing people discover.

Many times it's actually the fault of Management and not the programmers

It also could be the people testing this game. I'm sure they have some in-house testing, but I do know they rely on the player community to test. I'm sure they have a special test server somewhere. The problem is most of those people are probably not professional QA testers. Most people test a game to see early content, and they don't really know how to push a game to its limits and trigger bugs. Not only that a lot of people who are in it for the content just go right by and ignore bug sometimes and don't bother to report them

This is so true. I’m on the beta test crew, and we got onboarded by the dev on how he wanted us to test it. Basically he said “Play it to break it, don’t play it to have fun.” He gave all of us specific things to try and break which was also really helpful. They should be designing an arc where it's fun and engaging that you can complete with your existing ships, but buying a new ship gives you some sort of bonus that would make it even more entertaining and faster to progress.

There's several people on my server threw their hands over this arc and just deleted the game unfortunately . Between the insane hostile grinding, and all of the technical issues, they just couldn't take it anymore.

Being forced to grind 200 to 600 of them a day to complete an event, depending on how strong you are, and various factors, is not fun and entertaining.

I really liked it when artifacts first came out with the old formation Armadas. You didn't have to use Voyager for them, and you didn't have to use the officers, but if you used to tuvoc on the bridge, you got extra artifacts. You could participate in that arc without having the ship and slowly work towards getting it

Ever since they got bought out by that Middle Eastern hedge fund, it's been more quantity vs quality in my opinion

I do know a lot of the moderators here play the game, but I cannot speak for Scopely. I don't know how many of their employees do or do not play the game.

That also can be another issue with an online game like this. If you have your staff playing the game, the players could worry that the staff might be cheating at the game. This is not a problem with single player games, but a lot of player communities do not like the idea of employees at a studio actively playing the online game

the have rules about that aswell usually so the dont get unfair adventages. you even need to give your account names

and if its a pvp game. being knowledged by name opens up lot focus. source myself 😂

Yeah when I work for Sony online entertainment, we were allowed to play EQ2, but we had to give them our account names. We did get a free account. We didn't have to pay the monthly fee, but our accounts were monitored to make sure we never used any administrative commands in the game.

Those are just people who spend a lot of money in the game. Six or so years ago, there was a guy on my server who went from 1 to 30 in a couple of months. This was back when there was a level 30 cap, and we estimated he paid over $75,000. Some of the upper estimates were around $100,000. He was the CEO of his own company it made millions of dollars per year. So he could afford it

Developers even named a star system in the game for him "Toen"

There's someone on my server with a 100 billion power ship at level 70, and he's one of the most powerful level 70s I've ever seen. I can't imagine how much he has spent on this game. he spends thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars every month on this game.

That really was not a compensation chest at all. That was to just give you points to complete a mission that required you to level up the reputation in the augment faction store in order to complete. People complained it was too difficult so they gave you the points to complete the event

Yes but if you look at the sheer millions of people that play this game, those low and moderate spenders often generate more revenue than just a few whales. What you see on these discord servers are only a fraction of the player base. Most of the players don't even log in and monitor discord for this game

That is absolutely true. The more money you spend on games like this, the harder is to walk away because people view it as walking away from an investment. Because if they walk away, then they realize how much money they've spent, and it would all be wasted

This is exactly also why downtime is a bad thing for a game like this . The last thing you want players to do is put up a 3 to 7 day shield, walk away, and realize they can enjoy a lot more things in life than spending 4 to 12 hours a day playing the game.
