Deep cut. Basically, when mantis first came out, the systems were super buggy (there was only one apex in each system, and most times it would be stuck/not targetable). Basically, it made the mantis grind for anyone who had it upon release a real PITA.
They eventually fixed it to its current state when it became available via alternate sourcing, and a promise was made that those who were impacted would be compensated (during a state of the game stream). This was asked about nearly every month for another 2 or 3 when we finally got our answer, which was "we aren't going to do anything about it after all".

Nobody should ever use it, faction ships grind apex's way better than Mantis ever will. You unlock it and tier it up to get improved refinery, but it only ever comes out to sting 4 ships and go back to hiding in the hangar 😆

- Its refinery gives SNW officer shards and Syndicate XP.
- The ship lets you 'sting' other ships, which stops them from going to warp for a bit and lowers crit dmg and a couple other stats.
- It otherwise sucks and isn't used for anything. Too weak to be used for anything else.

The refinery is great. Some officer refineries give very few shards, this one gives a TON of SNW officer shards. Lets you max the Ortegas/Uhura/Spock quickly, and tier up Hemmer and Pike reasonably fast too.
The syndicate xp it gives is also really good.

The Syndicate rep alone makes it a good ship to have.

There's just a whole loop to it when it launched, but you don't really even use the ship to farm the stuff you need for the refinery. Once you hit g4 you can use a g4 faction ship to grind it much, much quicker.

Both are true. People who paid on launch got shafted badly. Really bizarre why they didn't do something for those people.

I got both the mayflower and d3 but I figured 2 interceptors would be hard to level up so I mainly use the mayflower and the vi’dar as my warships and the horizon for a survey ship

Best just focus on one faction ship at a time. You'll be past the level where they're useful sooner than you think, and a second just eats extra resources and slows you. If you can handle your dailies, you're OK 👍

The pvp range doesn't improve. If they were to change it for the 44s they'd have to change it for the 60s. Which they won't cuz the 60s don't want to fight each other. Hence my comment.
