I'm new player and recent weeks I was testing game mechanics of crew. And I found the main problem of this game is most of crew abilities COMPLETELY do not work. You collect those crew, get happy about new abilites but they are all just blanks. They don't work. For example Nero: in battle logs I do 2k damage, then Nero +40% damage bonus pops up and I'm still doing 2k damage. Same with Troi, Data. Lots of others, simply do not work, there is no any difference in game. Apart from really few, but I will not say which, crew member completely do nothing. I won't even start about crew and ship stats. Game is build around placebo effect. You are happy about something that is not there.

There will be researches that will boost your base damage that will not add up to abilities like nero

Nero applies 40% damage bonus at the start of round if the ship is already burning. However that bonus doesn't work. There is no slightest damage change. Same with other characters like Data and Troi. They don't affect damage a bit. I could go on about other characters, but just face reality in battle logs

So, you're new, so you can learn this quickly... those bonus damage amounts are lumped in with every other bonus you have from research. It's categorically not a flat +40% from Nero (2k does not bounce up to 2800)

Ops and shuttle bay have a +% bonus, the first prime in the game is +100% damage, from the g3 section of the combat tree alone you can net around 200%

Base * 1 + (sum of all bonuses as a decimal)

there are a handful of exceptions, like the early hull boost research in the combat tree, and the meridian protected cargo research which modify base

And isolytic cascade and the new 'true crit' primes are on the "final numbers"... but the rest is all small incremental boosts

There will be a difference, but as there's a natural variance between min and max hit, small boosts can be swallowed in the noise unless you crunch a ton of data

well it's possible it was min roll. But still, i've done lots of testing with Data and like you say the increase must be pretty small indeed. Nero +40% bonus should more likely be visible, but still doesn't look so. If differences are so small, then it doesn't really matter what crew you put in

+damage crew is almost never useful, unless it stacks off officer stats and round on round... TNG Riker vs an armada can be fun, but there's better options now too, and he needs time to ramp up

So, max Turas has two of these

I'd expect Nero to be adding ~250-300 damage per hit

But Nero does only trigger on rounds where the target is burning at the start of the round (should see 'Joy in vengeance' at the start of the round in the logs when it's active)

I believe he's cumulative though, so easiest check would be on a longer fight - check the first round, check the last, and there should be a difference

Assuming his burning triggered, which is only a 1/4 chance per weapon per round at rank 1

Actually, Nero might not be cumulative, so it might only manifest in small spikes...

But it is why the best hostile grinding crews focus on reducing incoming damage to hull (NextGen Laforge -> PMChen/Tlaan -> SNW -> Janeway)

yea, La Forge I found to be a crew that really makes difference. All others, armor pen, dodge, etc, defense, damage... no really. So far 🙂

yeah, they all do something, it's just not massively visible in comparison to the flat reduction to incoming damage, or pushing it to shields in the case of SNW/Janeway

Chen, Tlaan and Laforge are tricksy though, because they reduce it before you see the 'hits for X damage' number, so to see the effect you need to try it with and without and compare

There's a hostile which has a flat damage output somewhere, and I can never remember which one it is - no variance on the weapon, which makes it easier to compare incoming damage numbers

well, 7 turn fights, my max damage without joy in vengeance was 2.3k, max damage with joy was 2.4k. But it seems average damage with joy is higher, so it does seem to work, but like you said in smaller amounts 🙂

Have to say, there are a number of things that Scopely could do to reduce the ability of more powerful players from bullying lower power players. Tighter ranges of players one can hit based on your level is one. Something like you can hit players within 10 levels below your level, stuff like that.

So most would save all their solos for that he and do dozens of em and just have tons for their pulls

I think 2 incursions they did work and last incursion they didn't. The boost % is also ops dependent but even at low ops it was 50-75% extra loot on base.

There’s nothing you can do. Pop a long shield and take a break from the game, if he’s that much of a bother. Most servers have/had a few players like this. It comes with the game…it’s a pay2win game and sometimes those who pay like to flex.
