Second week of arenas and first match was easy, then rest are lolable with terrible match making.
Heres a simple suggestion:
Match make based on ship tiers (ops level range based on the ships, aka, 40-41 (load of players so not a small bracket), 42-45 (also loads of players)).
This would mea its not a pointless and pritty much ego stroke for the pay people allowing others to atleast attempt to compete.
something that should never be matched in this way. without a 70 in your own team, against a team with a 70 - wasted time

What is point of joining an arena match just for game to lock you out. They need to fix stability. Every timei I got back in everything was error code 5 until it kicked me out again.
Again, a pile of Tosh. My squad is limited to being lvl 46-53 and yet we are pitched against 3 lvl 57, its not even fun, it's just a waste of all our time. When will you stop running with this useless feature and just accept it doesn't work and no one cares

The Reward or should i say āpunishmentā system is the worst. Its not the matchmaking and i believe everyone can live with loosing a battle but ending up with less points than before is the main issue for me. At least you could remove the negative points from arena.
Ops levels are still out of control, scopely obviously donāt play the game at all this event or levels

And the most frustrating thing about matching up against ops way beyond your class is that you can't even leave the match. You have to waste the time and the points sitting in a match that is ridiculously unbalanced . No longer fun. Whole engagement today has been 1 or 2 wins vs numerous loses and rank drop again. Not engaging on this anymore... it won't prompt my spend, it will fuel a growing lack of interest

If you're not going to sort matchmaking properly can we at least have it where once you reach a rank you stay there? By all means reduce progress to the next one following a loss but don't drop us back down, especially when it's clear within the first 30 seconds who's going to win

My team had created a squad limited to only ops 40 to 44, but the enemy squad had an ops 46. Why is this? I thought the new squad matching limited ops to a specific +/- 4 range from the starter.

imagin a finite amount of players, for this example we say 12... 3 are 40-44, 9 are 45-50
and thats just for a timespan of 5 minutes, nobody else searches for enemies in that time... how often do you think the 40-44 wil meet equal enemies? exactly... 0
the range is for your group, not who who you face
when you wait for a match longer than 2 minutes you can almost guarantee a bad matchup, either for you or your enemies
It would be useful to be able to send a message to people so we can tell them to ready up

Same ol lag ( ships not moving/rubber banding across the system). Match making is still lopsided unless you pay....and the game times out when it's loading or unloading the arena....bleh š¤®
public needs a rework. if you create one, and 2 people join and ready, and you cant be arsed to ready up in about 2 minutes, then it should disband/kick you
aditionaly, if your someone looking to join a public squad, hitting join should be your admission of "ready"
would also help if when we see 2/3, we can see whos ready. no need to waste time joining someone whos never gonna ready up

You barely know that op53 can only build uncommon faction ships meanwhile players with op56+ can build whatever they want and you still matching bunch of op50-54 with some other op56+ guys. This mode is not even in beta testing phase. Its broken. From the day 1. Publics are nightmare unless you spent a ton. Im only getting points by losing every single arenas.

Tried out arenas again after saying I never would do with such a bad ranking system and not really rewarding time given for them whales to beat down on me. Love the public squads but im over arenas. Impossible to advance rank, no point for me to play it. And dont say I get the trophies things, not worth a thing if you cant spend on anything good.
So this is Scopelys Idea of "Balanced"?
why am I CONSTANTLY getting matches vs ops 60s. That should be impossible. my (very large) alliance has about given up on this except for our G6 players

Yes thats right. The massive abuse of "bailing a bunch of times to eventually get enough points to matter" balanced against "making the entire event not a massive waste of time for non-payers". You're also assuming that every single 3 person squad will always agree to bail every single match just to get minimal points rather than even consider playing a match.
This is a massive lack of logical thinking that borders on ridiculousness.

The lag was horrendous today, got my pulls for the week and got out. Arena matchups are still broken but what else is new
If only they would remove the impulse speed cap, then under-matched teams would have a chance at winning and might actually try. Instead of the outcome being determined by the matchmaking screen
But then the biggest whales wouldn't win every match and Scopely would hate to disappoint the 1% top spenders.
Arenas are not well thought out. Match making is terrible since there is apparently no ranking system. I hand it to the well coordinated, advanced teams but there is no way to advance at this point if not already a gold team no way to improve beyond silver. It is full speed backwards.
Another good idea Scopelyās execution will kill.
Ship is never where it shows(lag), top arena ranked players boot lower ranked players from teams, forcing the leftovers onto the same teams. This way the top players win even easier.
This is what scopley wants, teams of high spenders beating everyone else up. The only way to win is spend, and if you don't like it, quit
From what I have discussed with better teams even they dont like. Blow out wins or teams that give up no fun for anyone.
They even disabled tal against LVL 60s, and took away the speed crews, so the little guys can't do anything
Big spenders can buy the limited rewards without wasting the time.

That's what they want, spenders get positive experience, and they hope you will get mad and spend to catch up
Speed crews help big players more. I faced numerous 70ās that were so fast they killed my ships before I could even set s course.
It shouldnāt take 4 hours of game play ( all losses) just to have enough for 1 week of refines. How this quality of life?
the matches are intentional. This is not random that teams of top LVL arenas ranked players, are smashing low level bronze/silver teams.
Sure wish you would vary the timeframe for arenas so that those of us consistently unavailable werenāt consistently screwed
Can we please get a loadout for these things? It takes a long time to get setup for them
Lot of issues tonight:
- lag on armadas
- forced game restarts, sometimes three in a row
- repeating error 5 messages after restarting, then getting kicked again
Overall really bad experience this week

You can put FC Lorca on a cooldown for hours, but you canāt install a mechanic not to face the same over and over and over again?
They need to change the scoring. a loss should be less pts total then you get for a win. Otherwise, if you win/lose/win/lose you move nowhere and the arena becomes pointless. Make the loss only 1/3 or 1/4 less than the pts that you get for a win.
That way everyone is always moving forward
So, if a win was 700 pts, make a loss only 600 pts or 500pts

Yeah this mismatching crap needs to end. I keep getting my teams matched up against teams that we have no chance of winning against.
It's within the limits and that's just how it is sometimes. You have a high rank as well, so you are winning matches. Im ops 50 and wouldn't complain about matching you
The matching disparity of Sunsore's team (453,585,800 force cap) vs Sunsore's opponents (722,751,300 force cap) puts Sunsore's team at only 62% froce cap vs the red team, not to also mention the disparity in player levels being another problem. That level 49 on Sunsore's team should have prevented a level 57 from being in the opposing team.
The crazy part is that in the first 3 runs of arenas, these matchups weren't a problem because you could use speed crews and tactics and beat stronger teams. With the impulse speed cap strongest player's team wins every time.
I have always faced a similar situation with oeverpowered opponents and have never yet won an Arena match having always been overpowered and out of possible contention with every opposing team I've faced.
It's happen to me and I've done it to others. +/- 4 from the starter that means the 53 is within 4 and they can have a 57. This happens

Unless they bracket it to g4 g5 g6 respectively only, this will happen. And even then there is a huge power difference between 69 and 70
That's a matching mechanic that needs changing as it still makes one team overpowered vs the other instead of a far more practical balanced pairing of opponents based matchup mechanic that gives both teams a chance to win.
My issues with arenas today:
⢠refresh public arenas squads, only see same ones
⢠click join and either āsquad is fullā with 2/3 or āan error occurredā and canāt join
⢠re-refresh squads and same teams come up not filled⦠rinse and repeat for 15-20 mins. Only fix is make own squad.
⢠I had a 273 speed ship, right at cap of speed. I was getting caught by other ships moving MUCH faster, not less than 1% faster. If keeping speed cap, you need to fix some people bypassing it.
Put everything back how it was. Bring back the five member squads, the impulse speed, and the seven ops range. You have killed arenas to the point where only a small amount of regulars even play it now. Since scopely is dead set on not fixing the real
Issue (rank penalties being far too high) at least try to make them fun and playable for more players.
Public squads for certain ops ranges are just not happening. But if you rollback some of the changes, at least more of us could play with the teammates we used to and some strategy would come back.
The vast majority of stfc players are not heavy pvp try hards, need to broaden the appeal of this event to get more engagement. Which would also solve most matchmaking issues too. <@&509690795536941056>
So it took me around 2-3 hours of losing and a ton or refreshing and joining to get this much Currency. Too hard for what you pay out. Also, I subtract 300 as I had 300 before I started. We need more for the losing side, say 1k and give the WInners 1.5k. They are usually the ones that keep winning anyway they have all the Ranks. I can't get any Ranks. I got to Silver 1, and now I am back to Bronze as I can't even seem to find a winning group. SO I got 3.2k for 2-3 hours grinding and no wins to much effort for that.

As a 57 and generally being the highest In group, I only faced 1 60 yesterday. I clearly had all the luck lol. On a serious note, it's obvious what causes bad matches sometimes and if you choose to ops up randomly than clearly arena's isn't for you. And on the other side, g6 players will get it rough. Hence my stock pile.

Am not even bothering doing arena anymore, have not done a single match in 3 weeks and won't do them unless they change item lock behind rank.

THIS!! Something needs to be done about time frames. I've participated 1 day so far, due to being stuck working during the time Arena time frame. My job requires 10-14 hour days, nothing about the Arena's current set up works for me.
It's already hard enough to find people to play with in my alliance with the +-4 ranks... if they narrow it any more I'll have little to no hope of that. It's harder to get teams the higher ops you get. If anything I think they need to widen the ranges again, but it should be based off ship grades, rather than power.
100% agree. I work for 90% of the time arenas are on. I get a couple of hours to play after work, if all goes well. Why do they only run for such a short time??

Not able to get to arenas yet but everyone complains about power differences. Why donāt you get rid of squads and just stick them randomly with others of the same ops level? Most of the difference in power is probably happening because people plan to get bigger ops player in theirs.
I still think they should wipe rank once a quarter and make the rank rewards in the store some classic avatars or frames that you need particular rank and some number of credits to get to. Change the avatars and frames each quarter.
You can bet a lot more people would chase down the dang avatar they want.

daily credits scale so hard with rank that I put a ton of effort and buffs into getting and maintaining
The problem is that firstly, their match making is inconstant (probably due to the lack of player scoop) and they don't take into consideration that ops ship gate is too much of a wall in most case.
As far as am concern, I will almost always face a 70, the power gap from a 66 rare/cube to an Epic is too high. its the same for all Ship tier unlock ops.
They also forgot (or don't care ?) that PVP in this game is 90% cash spend and 10% skill (because you still need to know how to crew or where to spend that cash).
So getting a correct MMR is about as easy as winning the lottery.
So yes, they need to remove lock on item in store and put some king of season (that last 1 month, 2 or whatever) where best MMR % score get some cosmetic reward like any pvp type game are going (avatar, title, ship skin, etc.)
But am certain they would prefer to let that content milk as much as they can then let it die, which is a shame as it was a decent idea. Sadly they did not take enough (if any) consideration on how to work on their match-up mechanic
The window to complete arena is way to small
This is what I'm working towards before ranking up to the next ship lvl. Would like to be able to chill while catching up research
Have the same issue with not being able to win as every team I've faced has had far more force than any team I've been on has faced players with far more strength and speed and better crews than any team I've been teamed up with. None of the teams I've been on have been able to have even a chance of winning against our opponents.
The matchmaking would not be such a big issue if they removed impulse speed caps. In the first 3 runs of arena, with no impulse speed cap, the lower powered team always still had a shot of winning by running speed crews and using strategy and tactics.
Yeah for me it's having enough UC to make sigma pulls aswell as getting all the dust. Not that it's that important but might as well take advantage of what I have rather than go through the frustration that most here seem to have
You think that but after having all favours unlocked and maxed Iām wanting the officers and artifacts maxed as well.
does the game allow you to attack a target by a single click/select on mobile client? or does it still work through a popup window to confirm attacking?
suggestion: selecting a target auto initiates an attack. will speed up combat for those not on PC (who can hot key spam).
there is no attack hotkey on any official version of the game.
if you can attack using a key, you are using an unofficial mod.
and for mobile users, the dock icons are faster than the dock hotkeys on pc.
lets just say, ppl use the pc client for the mod. who said anything about docking, dont misdirect intent.
my point is that you can't expect scopely to balance the game towards unauthorized modifications, and without the modifications the mobile version is quicker(unless you get hit with the memory leak, and everything breaks)

Think arenas should be if your max person in your arena group has a 66 ship then they will face another team with a 66 ship in it. Then same matchmaking rules apply to try get the fairest match in that.
Ok, hunting red hostiles in Xa“Lomk. My Korinar and a player Cube are the only ships there. The Cube is impossible to track. Shooting hostiles from long distance. Not the beam.. Quite annoying when i target a hostile in a free area and it suddenly is fighting the other player.. If we cant even see where a single player is how are Arenas ever going to work?

Yes makes you wonder, did maintenance know about arena, probably not. I'm right at present I'm not lvl 40 yet, but I can't do research or building at present. At least it's only 30mins, but tomorrow is 3hrs

- Ships not moving from their position while fighting player or hostiles (they move if you start an armada with it or press join).
- Group armada directives still taking 20~30 seconds to be updated after doing solo. That's a huge margin to lose if you are hindered to start the group armada on time.
- Restarting loses ship dock bar.
- Randomly a Ship cant be repaired until a restart after being killed as it shows stuck in battle and it still being in the arena system cant send another.
it's still bad, I'm currently matched against 60s in a 54 50 50 team
also you're right, I combined stings and cerry to help my biggest guy and the other dude together with me just ran around on impulse crew and we won by about 2/0points

Matchmaking is still, and looking like it will forever be the biggest issue with arenas.
You allow players to manipulate it instead of adjusting for shipyard level or something similar. It's boring, and the reaosn it's becoming harder and harder to find a public squad.

Urgh, between the matchmaking and those remaining seemingly increasingly being whales with maxed CT etc. arenas are getting to be an increasingly frustrating and futile exercise
Arena dead-end for players OPS 68/69 š”. Those 70s with epic-G6 ships do their own game, kicking us as soon as we join. And building our own group always ends with duells against 2 or 3 70s š”
I would love the ability in Arenas to do friendly matches - at least within my region.
I open a lobby and give the other team leader a code so they can join, no rank or emblem implications.
Could be a good way to enhance wars as well so people can just duke it out there.
They can stream it on discord and make a whole spectacle out of it

if someone under 70 joins a 70 team, that's their problem, but if your team doesn't have a 70 ops in, you shouldn't be getting matched with a team that does
could easily apply the same rule to 66/63/60 etc, if your team doesn't have above 65 for example, you should never face 66+
get rid of banding and just make the matchmaking rule the above

There are a bunch of very obvious changes scopely could, and should do, to stop discouraging (and actually encourage) participation in arenas but for some reason refuses to even consider. Changing when they run is an obviously needed change. Not dropping below your current rank would also stop discouraging people from playing and would make it less of an issue to not have a perfect team as it lowers the stakes

Fine, it is a joke, and has been from the start from what I can tell. It seems to be a spenders ego stroker by design
And they could still keep that aspect while removing the punishment aspect so people would be more inclined to participate. As it stands I'm actively being discouraged from participating unless I have a max cheese team due to how many points i get for winning versus how many I lose if I don't win.

The first match making seems to be a easy win for the last three weeks, then it matches you against a group with a spender of much higher ops that shouldnt match with your group (I can see the groups forming so know that the group they give isnt the only one, pure ego stroking). And as Scopely are all about £$ I can easily beleive thats how its setup
Seems like the regular players have quit arena. 6 games 6 heavy spenders carrying the game because only 1 player of the 6 matters. Guess players who don't spend heavily on pvp should stop playing arena too now.

One of the worst arena Mondays so far, not only talking matchmaking, but the lag is absolutely horrible, the delays on attacks, ships flying all over the place, the teleporting cube glitches, game crashing mid arena because of timeout on the server,... I don't know what you're doing over there, but this can't keep going on like this š
The amount of times my client has crashed simply trying to join an arena team, let alone play the friggin game, is unreal. Clearly this is now dead content that Scopely no longer cares about, it gets worse each week and the CMs have been ignoring this channel for weeks
No improvements to matching. Same visual and command glitches. The wildly unbalanced playing field with tech is ruining game play. Too many clicks. And no option to leave a match when you're matched against a team with whale 4 ops above you. Losing interest scopely

sure, lose/gain rank, but once you hit a rank it should lock, I have been absolutely screwed over by going to 69 ops, I have lost every single match bar one today because of the š© y matchmaking system

1st Matchmaking... round about 10 matches Team opener 49 +48 +53(me) -
9 matches was ok in range from ops49 opener (+/-4 opponent lv) 1 match was a "are you kidding me!?" match... lv 49/53/57 no idea how do that pass against us... 57 unbeateble for us (pvp full equip with t11 lv 55 sanctus and 1.35b power)... may be there are some bugs in the matchmaker and we arnt the first this day... if anyone fix that arena will be bit better...

After this amount of time arenas should be smooth and slick by now... game play experience is poor, enjoyment is next to zero... in fact at times it's actually stressful and highly frustrating... as I've said before, you can't even leave the match, you're just stuck in this frustrating boring loop.

The reason people hate arenas is because you cannot and have not yet solved the MASSIVE disparities that can result in matchups.
There is ABSOLTELY no reason why THIS should have been a permitted match up....and if you think about it you'll have to agree.
But you won't fix it, will you? You won't do anything to make this not be the norm.
THIS, right here, is why we are so upset with you all the time. Because it's stupid, it's against the intent of the mechanic, and yet you do not fix it.

Please disable push notifications on mobile when I am playing on pc. I know that a player has attacked me. I know that we've started an armada. I'm actively playing. My phone just shakes itself off the table every time I do arenas.
When are we to expect arenas to be fixed? Impulse cap is not a SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

Hi. Long time player, first time complainer. Iām reporting what seems to be a technical problem with arenas this evening.As soon as I enter an arena, the game kicks me out and sends me this message and every time I try to load the game for the duration of the match.
public arenas show 1/3 and 2/3 and always say they're full when joining... great work scopely
sometimes the unfair matchup is in your favor, but this isn't something that shouldn't have happened
There needs to be a mechanism to see who's hit ready. it takes me longer to find 2 people to do that than it does to find a decent squad
Arenas are sooo bad. Please either kill it and put it out of misery or prevent players from losing standing and allow us to max everything out given time. It is the biggest waste in the game right now.
It feels like they're putting bots in the rooms to simulate activity, they never click ready even when full
How do people who are working Mondays participate? It's hours to get what you need for weekly pulls.
Lag was worse it has been in a few weeks for me. multiple instances were im mid battle with someone already and it just gets out of battle and runs away. also getting an error that i have to check my internet connection and then have to restart another 2 times with that same "error" even though my internet is working perfectly fine
The bad matchups could be solved by not pairing you with a group that has a player with access to ships outside your highest player's. There should be hard caps on level differences rather than this handwavey, making it up as you go along thing that's happening now
make the 70s fight other 70s instead of handing them easy kills of smaller groups, shorter queue times shouldn't come at the cost of constantly ending up in bad groupings
4 last matches, 4 losses. At 2 separate times, faced the same opponents, each time, back to back. Not throwing Shade.... each group had a platinum pvp spender. Totally fine. Just back 2 Backs, really? it really sux taking the ranking hit. Also you claim you guys want it to be seen as "cool". Literally no where in game is it found. Where is the explanation of the ranks, where are the ranking medals shown, why does the LB have a rando assortment of servers in it? Pretty soon there will only be pure pvp in there - Free up the favors! I could care less about the cosmetics. @muted badger What is the current participation rate?
also - I like arenas. I don't mind losing, I prefer "fair" matches, but the ROI on my time is frankly not good.

this is my biggest problem. if a leader has a room but hasnt readied, they need to be kicked off the board
Need a vessel force on ships so opposing teams have a better chance of engaging opponents on a more even keel rather than an over powered grouping of players taking on opponents that have no chance of winning from the start
they need a resign button, all 3 players get in a whale fight, they can end it.

Arenas is a lot of fun. Iāve won tons of matches against higher power teams using several techniques. Iāve stoped trying to convince this crowd though. To each their own.
being able to see who is already set to ready in public squads would be a nice feature. I spend a lot of time joining squads to have to leave and find another because no one clicks the ready button

Lol two weeks is a row now. First round Tantalus Field. Second Rd whale 60. Bonus this week the 60 also has a Tantalus Field. So freaking stupid.
For the public squad, allow players to PM the starter or others who have joined the squad when we are waiting for everyone to press the "Ready" button.
Also, allow the arena squad start to easily kick or remove squad members if they do not press the ready button after a certain duration, so the public squad can open up to others.
Three games in a row vs whale 60s we (55, 57, 59) can't touch. Wasted an hour in four matches I couldn't compete in. Give us a damn quit already.
Matches have been super lopsided (both directions) in all but 1 of my matches tonight. Lag, rubberbanding, and stuck-in-battle worse than normal.
Went ~.500 tonight, but that doesn't really advance me in the faction, so kind of a waste of time

Lag tonight and crashes were the worst it has been for weeks. I enjoy arenas, but hate it when I lose due to game issues. Targeting was 100% trash tonight, way to many issues of targeting a ship, my ship setting there for 3 - 5 seconds before even moving.
have they removed the impulse speed cap? or are matches still 100% determined by the "matchmaking" algorithm?
I would love to hear what techniques you have found effective. Ever since the impulse speed cap, the single strongest player has been able to catch every ship while using their PvP crews. I haven't heard of any strategies so far that work against this.
to get stuff more easily, i play mostly just for the blueprint cost reduction, once im done with the g6 bp im outta arenas

There needs to be some sort of timeout where groups get delisted if the leader goes offline or isn't clicking ready for a certain amount of time. way too many groups formed and then just left sitting there
A 53uc ship can beat a 56r. The issue is those that aren't PvP minded will lose the majority of the time unless being carried. Although not a sub 56 player, he took down my relatively strong scantus with a t8 northcutt+ extras
Your issues are relatively insignificant compared to huge difference in ship powers in g6 where there is just no chance
They also lack the player base
They are the ones in need of the favours locked behind higher ranking
the problem is if the rare g5 player(56-59) ist pvp equiped (ft/ct/topcrew) you dont have a chance as 53-55 player... same for all other... the basic in opsrange for the matchmaking should be the opener not the biggest player... if they do that the only problem will be the difference between players... ops raiser vs normal or vs player like me they go if all usefull things done... and other they dont raise... the opsraiser never win vs slow builders... can win against normal... can win against other fast raiser... thats the game and there is no chance to build a matchmaker that takes note of that all... end is frustration and a dropping playerbase and then the matchquality drops again circle frust-drop base-drop quality...

One thing Iāve noticed for the EU runs almost every week: the lag gets worse the more players join in. The early rounds are almost exclusively lag free, while the ones after reset/ mining Monday start get incredibly laggy
arenas should be g3 v g3, g4 v g4, g5 v g5, g6 v g6 not g3 v g4, g4 v g5, g4 v g6 ,g5 v g6 very miss matched
No one talking about spenders, in a fair fight no uc 50-53 ships can beat a pvp oriented rare G5 ships with 1.2B raw power. You can keep fooling yourself not me.

balancing in this game is a dream never come true... there are no mechanics to reduce the individual gameplay or set it zero... think only for fast ops raiser is that a wet dream... but all other dont want that... and scoplay dosnt want that to... they will lost much money if they do and i can understand this... the arena is near on max possible... there are bit adjustments to hold the opsrange in matchmaking (take opener not biggest player no fight in 1 min cancel searching for new try as a examble)

here's a shocker, i watched a g5 rare die to a g4 epic, mind u that rare was 700mil power. i killed a crozier 700mil with my corvus, 300mil(with sting). granted the heghta that was used has tantalus but it still proves that if you do research etc you can win. utilising stings and max fort also helps, a lot of people forget that max fort and stings help a lot for your carries to win against bigger ships
While that is true, there is always a point where you simply have no chance. If you as a 49 run into that heghta there is no way youāll win pure PvP. Strategies still saved a few rounds for me, but If they know those youāre screwed.

Again, missed arena because scopely can't seem to listen to it's customers. Please extend arenas by a few hours to accommodate all of your customers. Late night players don't get to participate and miss out on content. How difficult is it to actually run it for a few more hours?

In the old times you could overcome bigger ships with speed tactics, since we do have that speed cap in Arenas this option is gone. Unfortunately, that was a turning point in my alliance. Actually Arenas are just ignored, no alliance squads. As also public ones are not working properly I gave up as well, besides all lag and crashes. i really liked it when it was kicked off, now it's dead.
Why not cook up some solo arenas, in the spirit of the PvP in Scopelyās recent acquisition PokĆ©mon Goā1v1 matched by strength, three ships with time-restricted swaps⦠mostly about crewing

CMs aren't even bothering with this channel anymore, not seen them address a single complaint in weeks despite the massive uptick in issues with Arenas. I think that tells us Scopely's stance on this, namely "we're done with Arenas now, you're gonna have to make do with deeply broken content"
i wasted 5-10 minutes waiting for players to press ready or eventually removing them and then waiting for someone else to fill the slot. with match-making queue wait time and this, the average was 3 matches every 1 hour

i completely agree however they are only the bridge, if the devs or the higher ups choose to not prioritise this issue then the CMs won't be able to do anything else other than push for it to be a priority every week

Matchmaking is an absolute joke today. Ops 49 and 4 matches in a row I've ended up facing at least one ops 56 player.
It's not even as if the team balances it out either, latest one was 56, 56, 52 vs 53, 51, 49... total farce.
No wonder less and less people play each week.

šit's more and more difficult not to swear in posts about arenas.... I lost 2 ranks last week, yet my power, ops, research, and ships are more powerful. Today 4 matches 4 loses, matched every time against ops 65 and 66... power is so wildly unbalanced and it's totally killed the feature. It's almost like you don't want engagement... how could we fix it so that loyal customers lose interest in our "premium" game

Ops 50 power bands are not that far apart, but in the 60s the difference between 60-63 (without every premium tech) and 64-68 is massive. Ops 62 I've got a maxed cube at 1.8bil... I'm up against 7-15bil, 4-7bil g6 uc. All matches lost today, not one win. Every match totally outgunned

I lose most of my games due to consistently being matched with 70 ops players, meaning I am hopelessly outgunned. This experience seems to be the same for everyone who is on the cusp of the next rarity of ship. Maybe time to consider tweaking matchmaking so there's a hard block between these brackets. If the highest ops on a team is 69, then they should only face a team with 69 and below. I want to like the concept, I REALLY want the G6 innovative engineering favour (especially now I'm G6) but it isn't worth wasting my mondays only to be faced with broken matchups that are just a waste of time, no fun at all and where I break even in rank at best. Losses are just too punishing and offer too little rewards, especially when those left seem to have a large amount of maxed q-cannons and tantalos fields

For ops70 specifically purely ops based matchmaking wouldn't work either as fresh ones will have around 20B ships while the bigger ones have 160B+
Removing loss penalty / reducing reward requirements should be the focus to make poor matchmaking more tolerable. But it wouldn't be a Scopely loop if it didn't gradually get worse as you level up.
Yeah loss penalty needs to go or at the least ensure you can't drop below your highest achieved rank. Nothing quite as "motivating" as ending a night of bad matchmaking with a lower rank than you started
so after trying arenas since they was changed ive decided im never trying to do arena again... lobbys are a mess and you sit in them too long the game crashes ive had to restart my game 5 times in the last 10 minutes nice try scopely but im done with your "arena" concept you still cant get right i can progress naturally without whats in the arena store id just rather save my time and sanity trying to do it

I said it before but Scopely!!! You NEED to put other systems in arena so you can do dailies and make use of the time while you wait to lose.
This is becoming by far the worst grind of them all. It literally takes up hours on a Monday night to get enough credits for the week's pulls, with no choice of when / where to play it. I should love this mode but I genuinely hate it and dread having to do it every Monday right now.

95% of my server doesn't even bother with arena and it looks like most servers that way. just trying to find public match ups are taking longer and longer.

Keep getting matched like this, what's the point to doing this?
There are some very easy and simple fixes to make this playable and better.
- no rep lose on a lose.
- make it 2 entry tokens a day and change the daily chest. A single chest is 400 points and you get 200 per lose. A double chest is 1000 and you get 500 per win.
- add a forfeit button at 3 minutes in.
- if they want combat to be constant, if all ships are destoyed, the ship in the first slot is automatically repair, every time. That way they can always throw a ship in and fight. Even if they wont win they can have fun and fight.
- instead of a impulse cap, they need to cut impulse down by 500% it makes the flight time longer but speed crews work. Just make the arena smaller.
- MM should be off the average of the two highest arena ranks.

Strip ships of Forbidden and Chaos tech when transferring to arena server - make arena about research and crewing for PvP (and maybe Fleet Commanders as well).

Drop the rep loss for losing games - the matchmaking is so unfair that most people donāt bother with arena now and they canāt get the Terran favours due to not having good enough lvl rep and enough credits.

Fix the problem with impulse speed so the speed cap can be removed - equipping ships with speed crews to outrun and keep opponents busy is a valid tactic.

Make the matchmaking actually fair by matching on profile power -I donāt for one minute believe that making the matching fair is an easy task given the myriad of research etc. combinations of players, but itās been months already and a half decent solution should exist by now!

Eat a large quantity of fecal matter
For matchmaking, if they took the average of the top 2 arena ranks, that would even it out completely. It would be very hard for a strong player to carry 2 weaker ones without them getting too high and parian against 2 strong opponents. And even if they did, when they played on their own, it would be easier wins for weaker players. This would eliminate any $$$ or other advantages.
It is really hard to play when you can't see any ships. I have been kicked out of the game 3 times and each time i can see no ships
I'm ops 59, there's no reason why I matched against 2 66s and a 65 when the highest in the party was 60
I have faced a group in public squads twice today from the same alliance, so they had the advantage of communicating with each other the entire time when my group did not. I have enjoyed the public squads but the inability to communicate with each other is an issue.
Find a squad is a pain in the butt as well, "squad is full", leader doesn't ready up, or the most annoying a rushed ops X that has weak ships and drives up the matchmaking
arena speed throttle is still so messed up. every team we have gone against their ships have been moving super fast even without speed crews on board,,, fix this so it is fair

i dont like how ships are never where the game says they are.
You can beat others who are stronger than you without pvp ft on. He had thalron pvp ft on and i have pve ft. But i had pvp rare ct on which is only tier 2. Also no buffs on my ship.
Other researches and buildings can factor in how a battle goes, and this is a good example here. Another factor is who ends up attacking first, and the ship weapon shots per round (which has a disavantage for some g6 uncommons which can be taken advantage of)
Took two months off arenas, my first match in tonight I leave my squad alone as my game loops between booting me and logging in⦠Sour taste resumes š¤£. Fix this game loop or abandon it please scopelyā¦.

I had high hopes for arena. I like the concept and my first round went well, but. Um. It's got some serious matchmaking issues. {The OPS 45 guy had a 100 million Korinar while the closest we came was a 40 million moonaveen} - edit, someone pointed out korinar wasn't correct for this match/screenshot lol. Oh, and after we got annihilated by this team once we got matched against them again immediately after š.
I just give up on arena. Ops 65. I have not spent $$$ PvP, although I have worked to get PvP officers and FT and CT and artifacts. But since the speed cap, this is just a game of watching my ships get blown up by either huge PvP ships or even smaller ships with $$$ FT. It has become really boring. I canāt make my ships faster, so it it just loss after loss. I refuse to spend $$$ on PvP for this game. When there was no speed cap, there was a small amount of strategy.
I used to look forward to Monday nights. Since the impulse cap, I have lost at least 90% of battles. It just isnāt fun. I give up until there are changes to Arenas

its not that public arenas isn't working, works well for me when i play arenas, its just fewer and fewer players want to play arena every week so there are lesser teams available for us to choose in public
that should be winnable, thats the most reasonable matchup in terms of ops you'll find in this channel
The only way I found I was on the winning team for g6 players is to out-whale the other team with a strong ops65 - 68 in public matches. No strategy, no enjoyable challenging gameplay, just ensure there is an over-powered player or 2 on your team and hope the matching doesn't go crazy and match you with a more powerful team... when arenas launched it was a way for our team mates to work together to test our power and tactics against other teams, now it's a meh and wildly unbalance mechanic which is extremely frustrating/annoying.
The "bouncing between ranks" feature is enough to put me off... I will claw my way back to the next rank (which I started at after the relaunch) and then only engage for credits for daily pulls
from gold 2 onwards you start losing and winning the same amount of "rep" each game, if you lose more than you win then you basically drop to before your starting point. unlike the lower ranks where you can afford to lose 2 games before you lose the "rep" gained from a win. especially with this horrible matchmaking, do you really expect us to rank up so easily?

I was frustrated with the arenas as well, before I changed my mindset to "participate to get a loot" - for Teran store.
Now, if the match seems doable within first 2 mins, I play the match.
If not, I chat with the other 2 players from my team and wait for next match.
Either way, I get the loot š¤
Arenas are only held while I sleep or am at work so I do not interact with the entire feature.
this would work if and only if they remove restrictions on the rewards and just make it terran rep based and not rank rep based. because you can be the lowest rank and get almost nothing since everything is locked at higher ranks. I only actually play just for BP discounts or mirror dustš¤·š»āāļø
match making should be based on average team ops not the highest vs the lowest. People will still complain when 3 50s go against a team that is a 46, a 50 and a 54, but it will at least be more fair than 3 50s vs a 54, a 58 and a 62.
There is a lot to get even without higher reputation. I'm at silver II and I can grab
MU officers, Georgious crown artifact, some Premium Mirror dust and several favours. It could be better with higher reputation, but at least it's something š
And who knows? Maybe I'll get better in time in PVP and grow my reputation higher? š¤
There also needs to be another type of public matchmaking. There are now a lot of public teams that are looking for specific individuals to join - which makes them private non-alliance teams. Or there are alliance teams of two that are looking for a specific level player to join them (i.e. a 70 and a 62 are looking for a 66). When players are looking to join public matches, instead of letting them choose from a list of potential teams, the matchmaker should assign them to a team based on rank / ops. The creator of the team should have a choice as to each slot whether it is private or public to ensure they get to play with the people they choose.
I'm tired of constantly fighting to find a public team only to get kicked off a team because I'm not the person they want.

I would suggest keeping a bit stricter on the lvl swings. ie...40-45, 45-50 and so on. Folks if your having issues, work on your strategy and for god sakes your PVP research!

Also, for coordination, get on a voice chat somehow. it greatly increases strategy

That will NEVER happen in this game. The entire system is built around motivating spend to win PvP ābattlesā. 95% of pvp here is decided long before the fight started. Skill only being maybe 5% of the equation (knowing how to crew, which tech, which research, etc). Balanced or skill based PvP is not possible in stfc without a complete rewrite.
Arenas still annoy me for the same reasons as always: 1. Technical issues are still heavily present during them 2. The ranking system is far too punishing on losses. Losing some points is fine, but not at the levels they currently employ. And 3. The tiny Monday window makes no sense and limits me to an hour of even possible engagement.
I stopped doing arenas few weeks ago. its not motivating to play about 1-2 dozen matches and win 1 or 2 of them, sinxe the matchmaking is terrible
I gave up on Arena few weeks after it started. Hard to get into matches, and the time to play is very limited. I sit waiting for a match 30 to 45 minutes and event ends.
I like the Concept of Arena, What i dislike is the System for Matchmaking. for my Opinion the lvl Range goes way to far, lvl 60 has f.e. has huge adwantages against any lvl below alone from the Researches.
Same is für lvl 60 Against 63 or 64, The advantage from the lvl are simply to high. and with Pay to win S31 it will be even worse the next times.
if you ask me nothing below 60 should be matched against 60 and the same goes for 70.
i also thought about why not using the Ship stages for arena Balance?

Arena should be set to level on level forget the up down level variances. What ever your level is that's what you go against. That would be a true test of your game progress and challenge you to improve yourself.
Also need to make it 24 hr cycle that way everyone has a chance to participate set a number of arenas players can participate in
join a 46 instead... im ops 49 and play every week with my bro whos ops 45. find arenas easy tbh
just play with ops lower than you, matchmaking becomes slightly better that way

They really have been trying hard to elevate all of the player feedback to them.
I think part of the issue is that there are so many problems with Arenas (matchmaking, general tech issues, ship tracking issues, etc.) that itās hard to prioritize and figure out which route is best to stabilize the feature. Thatās just me speculating though.
it'd be great if they can bring back the old impulse speeds, can work around beating whales if since most times they get over confident and bring 2 slow warships and no speed crews so winning by running around is winnable

Just had my first arena matches in about 6 weeks, three matches played - 1st one we overpowered them, last 2 we were overpowered massivly. Looks like the matching still needs work. On the bright side I managed three matchines with no lag / crashes
Arenas seriously need narrowing of the power banding. As a L48 my strongest ships are around 60-70m and yet Iām paired against a L51 whoās weakest ship is 370m power.

there should be a afk timer for leaders that form groups and dont press ready when everyone else has pressed ready, that disbands the group so they dont clog up the arena teams listing and waste everyone elses time.

I played two arena matches today (and several others in the last weeks) and group setups looked all like this: one player in the opponents team had a higher strength than my total team together. I am not sure if you just don't know how your game works or if it this is just pure ignorance, but here is a little hint: If in the setup of the teams one player has a strength that is bigger than the total number of the complete other team the two teams never ever should be matched together. The strong player will basically intercept everyone from the other team and their teammates can do the scoring.
Arena is a good idea that has been implemented extremely poorly and leaves the players with no motivation whatsoever. I am done with that until there will be fundamental improvements.
The best and simplest solution for all problems in the arena: Deactivate this trash!

Point system is insane, given you need ranks to buy stuff, with the terrible matchmaking, you should not lose rank points when you get wrecked by a team you stand absolutely NO chance against
Timing of the event is rubbish, Monday when a lot of people do mining, limiting it to a small window, means most people stand no chance of doing it.
Impulse limit completely screws up any chance of people using tactics and actually beating an insane matchup

Can I recommend that you remove reputation loss on arena defeat. I have had loads of players today say they dont want to play, or just give up because they feel they just go backwards, or at best stand still. You still need to win to move forward, but the rep loss for defeat is putting lots of players off playing, at least in my alliance.

Most low 60s wont win a match at all as most of the time they get matched with 66+ ops so 1/2 ship grades difference which is insane. Max power of a cube at 62 ops is around 2b, 63 ops can get to 8b

Match making gets worse and worse.
Lag is terrible. Half the time ships aren't actually there they appear to be. You try and join an armada and ships just randomly stop, or inexplicably "can't get there" when there is plenty of time left on the timer.
Absolutely terrible and no sign of it getting better.

after Arena came into the game i was like woa rly cool a pvp feature finaly, now its more like, i have to get 2100 Coins so i can at least pull 1 time evey day till next week
I don't do arenas, most of them are just there to show how much money they put into it and sometimes have ships that are not possible in the game without buying thousands in packages
they are ruining the game themselves and probably don't even realize it
If you want to make it more even for other players there is a way, 100 of games show how its done. The truth is they simply dont want, couse if they do Big Spenders are not Unique anymore and thats where we come to the Problem
The biggest fix to arenas is remove the rank loss. Spending or not isnāt important as this⦠low spenders and f2p dominate the arena ranks on my server. Rank is the issue and it being tied to the faction store.
Arena brings me just a little bit closer to deleting my (Ops66) account every week. Can't describe how much I hate this mode.
There's just so much wrong with it.
Pretty much every match for me is just wait it out 10 minutes for it to end, collect 400, rinse and repeat.
With such a short time window to get done enough matches to secure credits for pulls for the week, makes Monday nights a total chore....or, miss out on the only sourcing for premium mirror dust.
Therefore Monday nights are just a total pain in the ....
The fact you can't do anything while you're sitting there waiting to lose means it's so boring.

60/60/59 squad (former mini whale/f2p+5th FC slot/current mini whale)
Did around 15 matches today, lost one because they had a strong 64 with two others that knew what they were doing. Every game we had had at least one, if not two g6 players in them. Some were strong, some not so much, yet we did quite well compared to the last weeks. 75% of our wins arenāt pure power, but strategy. Sadly, an hour after reset lag got so bad it was pure luck we won.
To be honest, even tho we were outmatched almost all the time in terms of ops, it was fun until the lags started.
(Granted, this was a pretty lucky day for us, but almost all of our wins could have been losses if they played better)

That is exactly the point. It's supposed to be a challenge. The matches where you simply outplay your opponent even though he was stronger. unfortunately, you only have these matches in one out of 20 games. the rest you can wait until the misery is over because you have no chance anyway. as ops 62 you don't need to try to outplay a ops 66 or 70. even 63 is the limit when a 7 billion cube comes around the corner

The game is not setup for a fun cage match when there is no tactic to beat biggest ship camps the mid to win the match. It's a fail, there is no fixing it. You'll never have enough of the highest tiers to fill the ranks which means a never ending MM where one side gets stuck against the higher guy that can't find a fight equal their own.

Scopely created the sand only so that the whales would have bait to satisfy their ego. If we free to play stopped playing the sand, you would see how in the long run the whales would start to complain and scopely would have to make real improvements
Public arena matching seems much better, if I join +4 or -4 ops player team.
The only 2 "issues" I had today were:
- Fighting 3 players from the same alliance in Public arena matches (happened several times and it seems they were able to coordinate much better)
- frozen Borg cube on my screen, when actually it was somewhere else and I couldn't run away from it

It would appear all I miss on Arena Mondays is game crashes and blank systems... I guess my Terran faction will forever be stuck where it is.
Hosts that never ready up need to be banned from hosting. It's supper annoying getting into multiple public squads and it's always the host we are waiting on for over five minutes or more or until we all leave and pick another but encounter the same issue there. Maybe allowing us to message them to get their act together would help
Arenas need a concede button, there are unwinnable matches and having to wait 10 minutes for people with good pvp ships/crews but no understanding of arena scoring mechanics to win is excruciating.
Thatās a big issue that needs to be fixed.
Groups really need to be delisted after a certain amount of inactivity from the leader. I see half a dozen groups a week where the leader won't ready up and is clearly afk, so people keep joining and leaving, wasting their time
Just had a match where one of my team mates was in a mada 10 sec countdown and was attacked. Yet i cannot attack opposong team in the same situation. Also, way too many players are zooming across the screen with reg pvp crews and catching speed crews

How the heck do you make arenas worse and worse and worse. My ship sat on the edge of the map visually but apparently was flying around the system. Opponents ships didn't move and then jumped to attacking me. Virtually no armada indicators cleared after going to 0. Target lines from ship to where it's heading never disappeared. Clicking to select an opponent ship took 10+ seconds to load the attack button multiple times.
I've been at 65,000 since like week 3 because I enjoyed these. Not sure I'll play another one at this point. It's not worth the hassle.
I submit this scoreboard into evidence, for why average ops matchmaking is terrible, a player with g4 epics shouldn't ever be matched against players without, but it was a perfectly fine matchup according to scopely

Hey, ran smooth tonight. Had some good runs. Match making still a bit wack. Generally ok. How do golds and silver match against platinum of same level? ( head scratcher). Had a few runs ( different groups ) where it was basically 2v3. Leader sat out š. Sux to lose rep on those. Iāll never reach gold 1. Any thoughts to adding pvp FT drip to the store? Still impossible to overcome. Any thoughts about not having all favors tied to rep? How are people supposed to climb the ladder in pubs?

While I admit that I got fairly luck in this, my first week in months where I got to do more than three matches, this is still week like, 6 in a row of pushing for a team quit option. There leader is the same lv as you so they can get players to join that is 4 lv higher. You complain about 4g epic. Have a look how g5 players go against g6 players. 1 g 6 player ship might be stronger then all off the g5 players ships put together and sometimes the g6 players just sits on the side waiting for ships coming in to take out wasting time so sometimes the times runs out because they didn't score enough. Loads of people have ask for them that there can be a button or something to give up that don't have to wait

g5's with epics have a fighting chance against g6 uncommons, that isn't true for any other shipyard gap as far as I know. That being said, I would agree with not matching across grades, so I don't know why you brought it up
G4 epic is able to defeat G5 uncommon as well.
Since this mode is a 3v3 matchmaking, even 1 player out of the balance is able to change the outcome single handedly. So the matchmaking balance needs lots of works

That match up is fair based on the system. Should have found a 50 to carry you. Your player base is so much wider too compared to 60+ . I can sympathise with them but not you unfortunately
I would add arenas is not fun. If you top guy can crush the other team there is no match and many are doing this. If you chose to play in a tighter range, you are just handicapping yourself
Suggestion to scopley. Make arena 1v1 OPS based, so 56vs56 46vs46, make it fair because if you can not beat your own ops then you are obviousl doing something wrong and need to buy more packs
It should be ship power based. Not ops.. Only good matches i "won" was thanks to a spender at ops 53 with maxed Tribune, Tantalus field and Q cannon taking out ops 58 and 57.. Still same issues as always. Stupid match making. Like 55,56,57 against 60,61,59. Ship stuck in combat. Enemy ships attacking from half the system distance. Untrackable ships. Armadas not respawning. Today was the best arena match making that has ever been implemented.
I went 37-4 today over way too many hours of arenas (see credit amounts and rating). Trying to find groups where people click ready or stay when they jump in and not immediately jump out was the worst part of the experience.
As the host I got to choose whether I wanted to be the lowest ops. Or the middle ops. As you can see I did both.
More than half of my matches required strategy, rather than relying on a wallet, as I was out of stings and Cerritos juice before I cooked dinner.
My teammates were receptive, positive, eager, and friendly. As the starter to took it upon myself to communicate an outline of attack and defensive maneuvering.
I had a dozen different teammates and while we did have losses. They were very few and often it wasnāt due to matching it was due to running out of consumablesā¦stings, buffs, rez chips, etc. I did feel bad asking new players to use their specialty ships to cover mine being empty on juice. But to be part of a team everyone needs to come together.

And yes in case you spotted that one G6 player who snuck through. We sent messages back and forth whinning about this match. But we went in and went hard. And one player went in the system on a 5 second delayā¦why? He saw the ships that entered the system and countered accordingly. He had an Enterprise D, maxed like most of them, that smoked a 6Billlion power Akira and his max Rotarran absolutely wrecked an 8Billikn power cube.
By the time the other team knew what happened I was already started my second uncommon armada with one ship and heading to the middle with the second to start the rare.
At least you gave people a chance. There were a couple of 2 platinum groups only accepting other platinums.

There were some tech issues yesterday for me during areans. My main ship got stuck in warp in three different matches. Lag was not the worste I have seen though. My group went 9-7 yesterday. We ran into a few really good teams. The more you play arenas the better you get at gauging the opponet before the match starts. You can kinda tell from the jump who is going to be tough and who is just going to send their biggest ship to hit your biggest ship. And if their ship loses then the sit the rest of the match out.

He does have a point - all the players on your teams appear to have solid plat rank, or at least high gold. No issues you doing that as you have the right to pick who you select in your team. Its a smart play, pick people with high rank as they obviously experienced and will be OP for your ops range.

I am an op46 with T10 Pilum so I play the « strong playerĀ Ā» and either go with only ops42-43 (even bronze, I donāt care I carry them)
Or i get a 42-43 + a strong ops50 with at least 170million power. If in the match I realize my ops50 hasnāt got at least a T10 g5 epic with PvP I kick him.
I usually have no problem winning in arena.
if your rare is t9 with good crew and their epic is low tier, you actually can kill it with your rare if you pair your ships with buffs, sometimes not needed tho. now take this but a g5 uncommon vs a maxed ent D, now that is something i complain every arena.
was using my t12 valdore to kill tribunes yesterday in arena with freeman, 100mil vs 200mil.
I do similar. Though I don't start my own. I want to get in, get 12 wins and be done. Don't want to waste time so vetting teammates is important.
Any G6 uncommon doesnāt kill a maxed G5 Epic, and 100% doesnāt kill a max Rotty. The only G6 ships of use are from G6 Rare, tier 9 upwards. At least in pvp against anyone with anything like half decent research.

As an ops43 in arena itās not your role to be the strong player and kill ops50. I suppose your team had a 48-50 ?
You are supposed to put speed crew and avoid them while being protected by your strong teammates.
You can only be the strong one with 2 other ops40-41.
you role changes depending on what ops you're against. if you're the lowest in your team, you sneak armadas in while supporting your biggest ship. stinging/buffing etc. if you become the biggest your role it to carry. e.g when I play with my alliance mates I'm usually the strongest so I bring my strongest ships to carry but when I play with 57+ people I act as support. cherry buffing our strongest + stinging their strongest
it was a 49 max vs a 50, there was no one on my team that could take him, but it was an even match according to scopely's balancing metric.

I disagree, you create you own squad and just kick everyone else but ops 40-41 and you will see a big difference ( if you have at least a T7-8 Valdore/ktinga/kelvin with PvP crew)
Lol all the critique of people saying others dont know how to pvp... in a game that is 5% skill based pvp and 95% spend/power based pvp... The skills in arena are gaming the match system (ops spread, lower power before matchmaking, cheese with loot crews, leaving mada circle after joining - allowing join again at last second, etc).
They are helpful strats of course, but be real - the outcome of most matches is determined at match start. I had a lot of fun in the FEW that were well matched last time, but the majority of matches were either we won with no chance for the other team, or got swamped with no chance. Sadly my RNG matched us with the team we couldnt beat every time I was one win away from Gold 1, lol.
Fixing arenas is so simple - cut the rank deduction for a loss in half. Makes it so people can still slowly rank up even when not winning every match. And if a team loses constantly they would still rank down. Covers the need for the rank system without being heavy-handed. The way they are currently designed caters only to those that love stfc "pvp" - if they want a larger audience (which in turn helps matchmaking across the board) they have to make some small tweaks to encourage the larger player base to keep at arenas. @muted badger

I disagree I'd say it's more or less 5% skill, 20% luck and like 75% is spending. I've killed so many people with primes and tantalus even though I don't have one myself. also depends who hit who first which is where luck comes in
15% is matchmaking. sometimes there's almost nothing you could do at your ops. easily at least 50% is keeping up with ships, research, officers, and etc. there's some wiggle room where you'd win if you're not getting outspent, but from my experience I'd be surprised if that's more than 25% of matches for people under like ops 65 or so

actually its the opposite, the longer you wait the worse the match ups. i for one last week kept making my squad leader keeps restarting matchmaking every 10-15 seconds. we never got a bad matchup. on other squads that i was on that did this we only faced 1 bad match out of 15 matches. i didnt play arena this week though, got enough medals for 2 more weeks š¤£

Terrible day matchmaking so far today, I was almost at gold 1, back to gold 3 now. Killed by lower ops players with rottys and ist which imo is completely bugged. Massive negative points at this level so no chance to progress, there is absolutely no thought in this for an average player

dripping sarcasm Matching is still super awesome and I love when my speed capped ship gets caught by an enemy.
Ultimately, Arenas will continue to be garbage that falls further into disuse unless and until individualized MMR is applied to players.
OPS level does not account for ship development, primes purchased, FT and CT. Right now nearly every match is entirely lopsided depending on who has the player that's spent $20,000 on PVP.
Every match is simply: 1) Enter match, 2) See which side has the guy with all the PVP stuff bought, 3) wait until the match ends.
An OPS 60/61/62 who has fully maxed 60 epics, fully maxed FTs, fully maxed CTs, and all primes purchased should be going against 70s. Not 60s.

QC isn't the top meta, but it's still creating significant imbalance over those who don't even have that much. The fact is that FT and CT and artifacts and primes and ship tiering and all of that create MASSIVE differences in the playability of a match.
If one player massively outmatches everyone else - and that's the rule, not the exception - then OPS levels don't matter and the match is over before it began.

The ops 50 is a whale, he had both tant feild and Q cannon. And I'm not a rush player, I just stopped spending on the game when MU came out. I have the combat tree maxed expect for the intelligence tree, and my Corvus is T7. The game is just trash at any sort of pvp balance.

I haven't been rushing though. That's the problem. No matter how much I camp, Scopely completely broke the pvp game and refused for some reason to implement an MMR system so that even when I go up against a player with Maxed arena ranking, I don't lose what little rank I've been able to scrounge.
Pvp will never be balanced in this game because of the ops level difference, but an MMR system can at least help offset the arena losses.

I guess, the question is how would a MMR system work, when your goal is Gold or higher. Should you only face people in a bracket based on arena rating. That would lead to no chance to get to Gold. you would alway have to have some Ops level influence

so naturally a 51 starter should have up to 55

yet I joined a squad started by a 51 and was matched against a 56
(where a 56 wouldn't have even been able to join)
The way arena is built, your 51 starter means the opposition starter can be up to and including a 55 which means their team can include up to a 59.
This is the Crux of my question because the starter on my team versus the start of the opposing team that I posted were five levels apart.

In my last of 4 matches in a row vs whales touching g6, a 55 on my team told me off for not playing as if my playing would have changed anything.

Also btw whales don't need good crews to trounce everything. A real whale will tear up anything you throw at it while running a speed crew.
Run by hitting the hostiles and bouncing back and forth. Set a mada and keep moving. Get in circle at 10 sec mark. Use the speed cap to your advantage.

Nah its all good. For me I went to the Corvus but planning on an EntD so I didnt want to spend too many mats and parts. As is Im cranking into my Sanctus even though everyone loves the Rot, because the Ents going to be the focus.
I think the main point of the arena though is to just keep trying. Eventually you'll get an easier opponent. (like a 400M NSEA with hostile crew lol)

Yeah I just want to give up. Nothing about arenas is fun to me. I was just now in a match where the game lagged to a halt and I had to clear localization just to do anything.
That was on top of being outclassed yet again. It's frustrating to only have a couple hours on Monday for arenas, and it seems like all I do is lose with maybe the occasional once in ten win.

Higher OPS level doesn't mean anything. A 46 with maxed primes, maxed FTs/CTs, maxed artifacts, rocking T12 Pilum and T12 Kori will absolutely smoke a low spender/f2p OPS53 with a T5 Vor'Cha, almost no primes, highly limited FTs/CTs (perhaps none at all).
It will be an absolute blow-out every single time. The T12 Pilum and Kori with FT/CT and all the primes sitting behind it will be a brick wall for the OPS53 player to throw himself against and even if he has 1,000 repair tokens he's not going to make a dent.
Individual MMRs on an ELO system migrates players to play with like-CAPABILITY players. Not like-OPS level (which means nothing). It's adaptable to actual player assets.
And it's not even hard to implement. There are dozens of games using EXACTLY that BECAUSE IT WORKS and because it's easy to implement.
There's a reason I'm not matched up against Clem or Serral in StarCraft 2.

Why isnt this a 24 event and run on a weekend? Its a no brainer for participation overall.... My largest frustration is the broken rank system, but close behind that is the Monday run day with a limited span. I rarely get to participate.

Yeah, but the other game play loops dont require completely focused attention - except waves. So during work hours arenas is a no-go, unlike simple daily style events. People take weekends off STFC because they want to and there isnt anything driving them to the game. Throw arenas in the weekend somewhere and I bet weekend engagement comes along for the ride.
actually for 1 month they should throw arenas to weekends and get the stats from it, weekends dont have much to do tbh

Please give to arena also a Cooldown. At least 10 years of Cooldown to never see it again. That would help on game performance. Also give a comp chest with Terran credits definitely with COOLDOWN to be able to claim daily. Thanks! #CooldownOnEverything

Most players talking big with high win series either have a (big) spender in their squad, are the spender itself (if not all are) or maxes Ops-Levels for Arenas only.
It's a shame that some players have to show their "skills" towards low or no spenders, while Scopely cares less about the players and more about revenue with each month.

Iām trying to encourage strategy and effort. Too many people whine and then send out novasā¦there are f2p players who can fly circles around heavy spenders. Itās about learning the mechanics.
no i mean that even if u get another ops to pull you down you still can get a decent matchup. e.g 53 53 49 can go against 53 53 50
that would depend. games i play against whales they use 1 speed 1 pvp ship and their fastest ship would outspeed ours so using speed crew still doesnt work
As OPS 65 I either face OPS up to 70 or have to fight the big guns alone while having a optimal team with 61 starter and 57 speedguy.
103 Players in the alliance and only 1 OPS 57 while most don't participate in Arena anymore.
Mechanics was and is the smallest part and due to the changes scopely made (3v3 and speedlock)

the day they lift speed locks is the day so many f2p with good mechanics can actually win again
Iāll be completely honest with you. I normally play the middle player and run mantis/titan/cerritos with speed crews and I ask the smaller player to also try and help out the same. Multiple debuffs on incoming ships while our heavy had multiple boosts is a morale crusher. Then it all comes down to kiting and timing hostile hits and using your kirshara effectively.
I get that you donāt always get good matchups. But here is an example where research, fleet commanders, FT and CT make all the difference in the world. Even with the same crews.
Just because it looks hopeless doesnāt mean it is.
I donāt think I would want a 52 to start and have me as a 56 be the heavy with a 48. My g5 rares arenāt even a billion power and I see some players ops 56 with 1.4-1.6b power and max CT FT. Thatās an impressive feat I just couldnāt invest that much into ships that will be obsolete the moment you hit 60 lol.
it depends for me, if im playing with 56 i play support, but if i play with my alliance im usually the carry. or at least we take turns carrying
most matches we just get horrible match making

When demoted 2 times in a row within 4 weeks trying 10h to get Matches I stopped playing Atenas and as well stopped spending in a game with limited access to certain content. Within Alliance are not enough players in OPS range and public teams are a mess, getting kicked in 95%.
i barley squeeked in gold 2 last week. with the terrible match making / p2win pvp and the scoring (wins and losses being equal now ) I don't have much incentive to continue, especially when it feels like 1/2 my opponents are all plat 1 rank.

You see the same people over and over, almost nobody from my server participates on a regular basis. Maybe 5%? What's the plan to make this better? When can we expect implementation?
oh I'm sure someone over at scopley has a plan to make this feature better the real question is how much money can they make off making it better or less opportunities to cheese matchmaking. Yes I know there's gonna be at least one person from every server that will see my comment and say well they don't cheese the +/- matchmaking but let's be honest until same grade of ships are used in any match there's always gonna be that "op" player that 99% of everyone can't do anything against be it primes or maxed out officers/ft/fc's.
Supposed to be +4-4 from whoever is leader which means if I'm a ops56 +4 from me is lv60 which means I should never ever have to risk seeing 61+ period!

It could be easy: Stop negative Rank Points - getting nothing should be enough, Improve Credits for lost matches somewhat. Stop matching players with higher shipyards - if there is a 66, both sides should have a 66, not just one side easy winning with Rares. Doesnāt solve all problems, especially the kicking out of public teams. But at least you donāt get demoted and get some Credits when playing Arenas for some hours, not just waiting and hoping to find a team, then watching High speed Cubes killing the opponent (my team) in less than a minute.
I wrote several constructive feedbacks in the first arena weeks, getting it better, but nothing implemented, instead messed up the whole Terran faction.
the worst thing they added at higher ranks is losing the same amount as you win. so +600 rank rep in gold 2 I believe(havnt played arenas in like 3 weeks since i reached gold 1), but U lose 600 rep as well when U lose. as someone who climbed to gold 1, I can tell you you'll lose about as much as you win most times being a f2p with no whales in your team. either make it the same such that you lose half of what you win or just remove losing rep entirely. arguably won't happen because the rewards that are rep locked are really good(mirror dust is great)

if you get that far, you will run out of dust to pull long before the tree is done
to max the tree you need to almost max everything else
so first batch of mirror pulls will upgrade at least 8 levels of mirror research, 2nd batch of claims will upgrade about 10 or 11 researches and the last one would probably upgrade 15? which is far from enough to max the tree considering you need at least 8 lvls on each research to get the 50% iso boost

Starter 56 +-4 = Max ops 52-60
That pvp matchup shouldn't of been possible thats way to much of a gap, and that's not how the banding is worked out you add the 3 ops level up then divide by 3.
So 50+50+50=150Ć·3=50 vs
60+59+56=175Ć·3=58.3
So it's a difference of 50 to 58.3 which that bigger gap shouldn't be allowed
When forming a group, you are restricted when forming a group. Everyone has to be +-4 away from the leader. Both teams meet this req.
The matchmaker has no restrictions, it will attempt to pair up teams that best match according to avg level and rank.

It's a balancing act, the left side has 2 plat players that adds weight. Not saying it's completely "fair," but it's not straight 8 levels diff. One side is clearly more skilled.

if they want to make arenas āfairā, make it so that losses donāt hurt. in other words, no loss to what is in the store. donāt raise our arena rank obviously, but donāt penalize us for loosing bad matches either. make it so we donāt care if we loose five times in a row. simple. easy. still frustrating. not painful.

Matchmaking decides which squads are paired - based on Avg. Ops, Rank, some say sales targets....
Not sure whats weighted the most - sales targets might have just a tiny influence, like 1-8 OPS levels or so.

The important part here lists both as factors the matchmaker will use to pick your opponent. If you "were sold" something else, then you missed the details.
Imagine if rank wasn't a factor, and a plat 50avg group faced a silver 50avg group. This stomp is just as bad for the player experience. That's why rank matters. Level is only one factor in someone's pvp performance and using only that is insufficient.
Iām pretty sure rank doesnāt play much of a factor. I mean Iām plat1 still versing low golds and silvers š¤·š»āāļø

In what way would a Plat group of 50's vs a silver group of 50's be an "assured stomp" ? Arena Rank only means you've been fortunate enough to either be in an undermatched group (by the Algorithm) more frequently than an overmatched one.
Obviously when comparing 2 players of the same level, if one has focused more on pvp than the other the pvp focused player would have an advantage.... but the idea that a lvl 50 "platinum rank" would have a snowballs chance in h*ll against a sliver or even lower rank lvl 56 player is laughable at BEST.
But certainly DISINGENUOUS at the least
It is arena feedback, not arena tell me I am wrong. Take the hit and readjust or don't ask, right? People want to enjoy the game not redesign it so it works.

Rank is a method of showing pvp skill.
A group of 50s that never send in a ship to the system, ie. poor pvp skill, will be stuck in bronze because they never win.
A group of 50s that beat all other 50s, regularly, would have plat rankings.
A group of 56s that never send in a ship are also bronze.
There's a lot of overlap between the best 50s and the worst 56s. If you think that a higher level team will win just because they're higher level, then you don't understand that whales stuck on pre-ascension servers are still whales. And that power can be bought.

i played today cuz some of my alliance mates needed a +1 and all we faced were people with 200% iso dmg 300% iso def, whales š
last 2 games we got same level matches so thats that i guess
APAC arenas are just whales so yea š , dont see anyone else other than that
tbh pvp skill was thrown out the window the moment they capped speed. i was easily beating whales back then because i zoomed past their slow ships. occasionally ill die to their speed crew tho. now all the people i face run 1 pvp 1 speed. since speed is capped i cant outrun the opposing speed ship now

And "skill" means how you came to that rank:
- in the good old days with +-7 OPS, 5 Members and Speed - now not even taking part but blocking plat. 1 ranks
- as tiny with whale support
- as whale (around your Ops)
- using the mechanics for advantage (dodge, speed, crews) - will have the least influence.

Pvp skill is a broad definition and includes the bottom 3 you've listed.
Knowing how to game the system when forming groups is a skill.
Having development in ships/officers/crewing/research/strategy/mechanical/dexterity is a skill.
Excelling in them will lead to a higher rank.
