@fickle canyon Misery dev claims GSC filed a DMCA takedown of the game in Steam. The only proof he has provided for this are a copy-paste where two things are shown: a picture of some buildings, and a picture of a couple guys in gas masks playing the guitar. Shortly after doing so, the Misery discord deleted like 3/4s of its channels, and the developer put out a statement being like "I have been very racist in the past but that was in 2024, now it's 2025 and I'm a changed man", something along those lines.

which has nothing to do with a DMCA claim, but I guess has to do with trying to cover his butt concerning liability for something. We don't know what.

Ostensibly the DMCA claim was filed by a Olha so-and-so, which is one of GSC's legal counsel, of course that could have been someone using their name. GSC hasn't made any statement yet.

People in this discord have mentioned the use of a song (dirge for the planet) and copying one asset (a gate made with planks of wood) as possible reasons as to why GSC would have filed a takedown, none of which appear in the proof that the misery dev has provided. In fact, his proof looked borderline shitposty, which lends credence to the takedown being a false flag from someone trying to make gsc look bad, essentially. The timing of the whole thing going down (Friday evening) is pretty much the best moment you'd choose to do something like that if you wanted to ensure the largest possible time window before your target could respond, but then again, could be a coinkidink.

from where I'm standing, if this is all as we have been told, this could be construed as a malicious DMCA towards someone who has said very very stupid things regarding ukraine in the past. Its community was obviously jumping at the bit to harm GSC. This forum does not allow talking about politics, but it's a big fat elephant in the room so might as well mention it. People are now insulting and review bombing GSC because it looks like they are abusing the DMCA to screw over a one man studio over personal/political reasons, essentially. Should things be like we're being told, I'd agree with it, but I don't think things are as like we're being told.

Due to the quality of the "proof" provided, the erratic behavior from misery guy, and the fact that GSC have not yet pronounced themselves on the matter, absolutely nothing has been confirmed yet. It's just people coping on both sides and a developer that's obviously not telling the full story.
