Unreal is alright, game optimisation can take a full year. Most of the development in a game is complete about a 9-18 months before release, then comes heavy optimisation.. Or have a dedicated team of devs to optimisation. They released the game basically complete but just not optimised.

the end goal of any game simulation like this is to achieve interactions between the NPCs
in the trilogy NPCs are simulated even outside of the map you're in, and they're persistent, if you leave and return later they'll still be there basically
in S2, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND they either due to lack of time or intentionally decided that this approach wouldn't be worth it, so they didn't go with it, instead implementing the random spawns we have now

Its not just raytracing, its all these technologies like lumen and nanite which are very unoptimized both due to the developers' mishandling but also for that specific UE5 version
I have a 4090 and Im not bothering with the game until the fix it

hw rt reflections are the only thing i really use.

rt reflections with ray reconstruction and transformer model dlss. is PEAK graphics to me

hw rt is still very noisy if you dont use these 2 things. you can even fix lumen in s2 mostly with ray reconstruction

beauty of pc is being able to add stuff like that to ur games that dont already have it.

personally i use dlss 4 and rr on s2 when im running lumen. the 260fps with lumen off was just a test i did for fun
