It’s set 10 years after the last game, and we already know that some characters are returning. Ultimately it’s going to try and appease those who haven’t played them but those who have. That’s the reason you play as someone new who’s just entered the zone, so new people can kind of learn at the same time. But anyone who wants to actually understand what’s going on definitely should

The main reason being how accessible certain items may be from the get go. Of course in a linear open world setting you face challenge after challenge that steadily raises your gear standard, but if it’s open world you would have to power gate locations off with tough enemies definetly, but what if you just find one guy out in the wilderness who happens to have a gun that ups your level without any real challenge

You don't need to play the games to know the plot of S2, but it wouldn't hurt to play them to familiarize yourself with the setting, the characters & the enemies. The game will feature a lot of callbacks.

It has an overcomplicated medical system that boils down to 'use stimpacks and anti rad/anti psi meds' which is the same as the default game, and an unnecessarily complicated and pseudo-realistic weapon maintenance function that'll be replaced by a more simplified but similar weapon repair system & modification system.
No mod pack with leg meta as a function should be described as "realistic" imo but yeah Gamma is more immersive ig
And actually, the weapon modification system in S2 is similar to Anomaly/Gamma's but strictly superior.

Nah the toolbench is completely different in Anomaly and allows you to pull materials off of scrap guns to make your own upgrades. In Stalker 1 and seemingly in 2 its only available through gun smiths

also weapon maintenance being a per-part thing with complete field stripping is a mod thing, not a Stalker 1 trilogy thing
I mean somewhat? In both of them you could slap a nade launcher for the most part wasn't it? I don't think there was ever an additional gun mode attached to a sniper rifle
you can repair weapons by stripping parts but you don't get weapon upgrades by scrapping weapons
you get them by smashing repair items together
It was under barrel, scope, silencer, and then some guns had a laser as an upgrade but it wasn't an attachment just a gunsmith upgrade
A lot of the weapon upgrade recipes require barrels and other gun parts, not just repair stuff

How can I put this... It's like Shoc/COP but mixed with parts of Gamma/Anomaly that those players would like, but that isn't a wholesale 'lift' of features from those mods. It's not introducing gamma/anomaly mechanics but I don't believe S2 has to in order to appeal to fans of those mods.
I mean looking at the S2 trailers we've got it looks like its literally just an expansion of Stalker trilogy mechanics where its an upgrade tree available at gunsmiths and then you can attach things to the outside of guns
I remember reading they had worked with a few of the Devs of mods for the series for some aspects
that is entirely different from getting upgrades by scrapping weapons
BC as far as I've seen. Yes, you need a mechanic to install certain weapon mods. But the majority of them can be freely installed/uninstalled on the fly and allows for greater expansion of mods.
FWIW I don't think Stalker 2 needs to appeal to Anomaly fans nor should it. Those mod packs are waaaaay to overcomplicated
Half the reason to play those mod packs is just for the overly complex gun maintenance mechanics anyways
but its not important for Stalker to be Stalker and be a good game
the upgrade system is pretty much the same in both beyond the ability to add them yourself, which is attached to the crafting mechanics

having the option to upgrade weapons yourself without needing a gunsmith via the crafting system is a massive change to vanilla Stalker
At least in my experience, the upgrade trees from Gamma are essentially the same as the Soc/cs/COP, but they require upgrade kits from the Gamma/Anomaly crafting system. But I believe the S2 system is superior because it retains the simplicty of go to see a mechanic to install upgrades to your gun. But also retains some of Gamma/Anomaly's fun, bc instead of the upgrades being purely mechanical, you can actually install various sites/attachments that you have to go out and scavenge/find.

Anomaly and GAMMA are mod packs containing new stuff on top of ancient stuff made by retired modders and a lot of underlying engine work. I don't think we're going to see "Anomaly 2"

You can deal with traversal stutter in VR but if the game is just really demanding and you're only getting 45FPS in flat, you're not going to be able to enjoy that in VR
i can see the body wich is a good signal, you can see arms torso and legs on first person, if body model is well animated(like using the same animations than npc) third person camera could be nice, something like modern warfare

sadly fps drops in videos isnt always the engine and can be codecs and compression/conversions. so it might be the game or it might be how theyr ecorded/edited the game

A Vertical slice is a polished segment of a game in active development. What you are referring to is a pre development trailer like Anthem did.
I find it really hard to believe that people are so incredulous about the stalker gameplay. There's a lot of it out now. Look at the Great Swamps gameplay and tell me it's all pre-rendered to show off the game.
One of the recent trailers was some low skilled player playing on Xbox. Was pretty real looking to me. I think it was the gamescom one.

I think one thing that many people don't consider is that it is technically possible for developers to effectively "record" player movements and then re-play them, altering world props & enemies in a cinematic way (imagine CSGO replays but with more control)
too much manipulation of the environment can make reaction speeds & situations feel odd and disconnected
magazines are almost entirely managed via UI and simple button prompts to combine mags, but you can still run into situations where you weren't on top of it and have to quickly deal with a pile of half-filled mags in the middle of a tense fight

Magazine management fits games like Tarkov, but i'm so glas it's not in vanilla Stalker. It's a pain in the ass for no good reason.
The ONLY complaint I have about ITR2s ammo system is that you can't just pass a loose bullet over an ammo box sitting on a table and have it go into the box. That was a thing in ITR1 and it made it a lot easier to just have a stack of ammo boxes in the corner and toss bullets at them and have them just magically sort themselves out lol

but in ITR2 you have to be grabbing the box with one hand and putting the round in the box with the other
it just takes design time that's unnecessary bc Stalker has never had mag mechanics before.

I don't remember the specifics of moving ammo around different magazines, but beyond taking ammo OUT of the magazines (iirc that required you to open the crafting menu), I think loading mags was pretty easy (I may be wrong about this tho)
and magazines are always used in order of how full they are regardless of when you reloaded

Stalker has a full inventory and your ammo is represented as just a single box of ammo, so idk how the game could keep track of mags if its just one box in the inventory. And as soon as you put actual mags as an item in the inventory it gets tedious and annoying

and the second and third games don't really expand much beyond what the first revealed
They certainly expand the world and the factions at play but as far as explaining what the zone is and how it works, it all comes down to that last bit of the first game
