I'll be honest, this is a first time playthrough for each game, but I did enjoy SoC better, although I'm glad you can find technicians and repair gear in CS, that was a big improvement

Try reinstalling, it shouldn’t be a problem with steam, but windows firewall sometimes marks excutable files and dlls as locked, it used to be common problem with mods

I'm wondering, in the trailer he speaks of the Zone almost like how a fanatic would, maybe him surviving the emission was a life-altering event that changed his perspective of things? I mean, he did survive the third emission despite Lebedev saying he wouldn't, and seeing the entire Clear Sky faction get wiped out before him would've certainly messed his psyche up. Thus he could see himself as special, that the Zone gave him another chance.
