I've started playing Stalker 1 in preparation for Stalker 2. I would like to know from the developers if posible maybe if I should use mods or not. I want to play the game as intented but a lot of people recomned mods such as ZRP and similar mods without explain in detail as to what they do. I looked at the website for ZRP and still not sure about what some of it is saying lol.

There are many many mods for SoC, at pretty much all levels from vanilla+ to complete overhauls (and of course ones that are practically their own games and beyond). It's my favorite of the series so I definitely have a soft spot for seeing different modder's takes on the classic.

Also if you are using an auto weapon, switch to single shot with 0 or 9 which increases accuracy a bit I think.

That said if you are going into close quarters, do not be afraid to switch to full auto and just unload on people. If you carefully scavenge you will not be short on ammo

It does come with a decent stash of ammo, and there is another stash in the factory at dark valley. Otherwise it may be a while before you can find more with any regularity. But the Vintar is a weapon of choice for me into the late game. Especially when I cannot get Voronin to give me the quest that rewards the Sniper VLA

The general progression of weapons through the game is something like sawn off/pistols/viper -> 5.45 ammo weapons -> 5.56/9x39 ammo weapons. Mix in better shotguns and the odd sniper rifle to taste. Plus some late game fun surprises

You can't join duty. In the PC version of the game you can join freedom but you aren't supposed to. Don't know if the console version has that same thing too.

My only piece of advice is to make sure you bring enough ammo. The bandits will only be carrying 5.45 for rifle ammo

General rule of thumb is to have around 300 rounds per op, right? I also typically fire semi auto and pick my shots semi careful

One of the reasons I do carry a shotgun when I can get one is that a point blank blast from one will one shot a lot of the low to mid tier mutants, including bloodsuckers. Their eyes are still visible even when they are cloaked too

There's a huge number of mods, but if it is your first time playing I would recommend at lest trying it vanilla at first. Then you can figure out what you do and don't like. If you run into crashes you can try Zone Reclamation Project, but it changes a lot of things that aren't really advertised by the mod.

Unlike Previous Games, where the player is only able to carry one long gun. and one pistol. making the player have to chose one main weapon for their long gun to fight.

In CoP The player can equip Two RG-6 grenade launchers on their weapon slot 1 and 2

ehh.... theres not a huge gameplay mod with 'compatible with ZRP' but its because the mod itself has ZRP inside it

take autumn aurora for example. it is as close as radiophobia, minus the jank firefights and jank economy

Radiophobia 3 is known for its hardcore approach, which i absolutely sure might be overwhelming for a first playthrough.

If you're already deep into your current game with the ZRP, it might be worth finishing it first to get a solid grasp of the core mechanics and story. Then, you can dive into Radiophobia 3 for a more challenging and immersive experience.

Radiophobia replaces the original weapons with a mix from BaS, Gunslinger, etc. And also newish engine tweaks to handle weather stuff shades, and more.

Also, A-life most importantly. this changes how NPCs and mutants behave and respawn, Thus also affects quests and economies. And how This is why i'd recommend playing SoC first to know how this works. Radiophobia's sometimes throw a frickin pseudogiant in cordon at start due to the A-life.

Generally I agree, but the latest version really isn't that hard gameplay or economy wise on the medium difficulty. And a pseudogiant can spawn in Cordon, but not until you progress in the story and return to it again.

Imo just finish vanilla since you're already far into it and then check out some mods once you go for another playthrough.

Another good recommendation is the 1.5 stalker complete mod they just actually updated it recently before 2 released. While it isn’t a huge hardcore mod or anything like that it does make the game even more stunning than it already does. I’d suggest just using gunslinger mod with SoC and CoP, that’s the only mod I used for my playthroughs years ago since it came with a few texture packs like Absolute Nature, easy install and makes the game so much better in terms of weapon textures, animations etc.

The way I play is by emptying all my bullets into bandit squad or other large group of enemy be it a side mission or story mission, and then picking up the enemy group's standard rifle and looting corpses for ammo drops for that rifle.

And then use that loadout for the next group and spend all bullets, pickup new dominant rifle and ammo type, repeat

that way I always have enough ammo \

And the rest is just trying to get headshots if I can.

Hmmm. Break open boxes. They sometimes have good stuff in them. The little ones with white tops usually have stuff, regular crates sometimes do. If you loot enemies, stashes, and boxes you won't have to spend too much on regular supplies.

Definitely use the lean mechanic to peek corners. It will save you a lot of health over the course of the game.

If there is anyone who knows things about troubleshooting Stalker SoC, I'm running into troubles, I wanted to download and play STALKER SoC to play through the trilogy; But the game keeps crashing to desktop everytime I attempt to start a new game once I've loaded into STALKER SoC. No Logs are generated so I can't find a crash report, and if need be I can send my computer specs if people would think they're relevant.

I run the game through Steam, and the current fixes I've tried thus far have been:

• Running Stalker SoC as Administrator
• Verifying integrity of game files
• Reinstalling the Game
• Downloaded and got the ZRP mod working (because it apparently fixes a bunch of crashes/bugs, version running is ZRP 1.07 R5RC, and it is correctly installed because it's name pops up in the lower corner.)

Whatever I try, The game seems to run fine right up until I click on "New Game" and pick a difficulty, it gets to the loading screen and either the screen freezes at "Prefetching objects" or is actively crashing at that point, which is the first thing the loading splash screen gets to try and generate.

I run the game through Steam, and the current fixes I've tried thus far have been:

• Running Stalker SoC as Administrator
• ==> Verifying integrity of game files <==
• Reinstalling the Game
• Downloaded and got the ZRP mod working (because it apparently fixes a bunch of crashes/bugs, version running is ZRP 1.07 R5RC, and it is correctly installed because it's name pops up in the lower corner.)

Yeah it took me a little while too I couldn’t get ZRP to work properly, the key thing is not to overwrite the og gamedata directory, so

1.reinstall

2.rename og gamedata to gamedata1

3.Move ZRP gamedata into stalker SoC don’t change name or anything

Wanted it to be easier to follow this is exactly what I did hope it helps, the games great so far for me apart from having to spend an hour to get it to work!

Downloaded fresh install of Stalker SoC, Downloaded fresh copy of ZRP, Extracted ZRP, found Stalker SoC install directory via steam's "Browse Local Files." Renames current instance of "gamedata" to "gamedata1", copied "gamedata" from extracted ZRP file, pasted it into Stalker SoC install directory alongside "gamedata1", loaded Stalker SoC, confirmed ZRP to be running with lower corner "ZRP 1.0007 R5 RC" text.

Attempted new game... crashed same as before. Re-attempted new game twice and failed both times.

OK. I just did a completely fresh install of SoC, wiped out everything related to it. I booted the game up and got it to the main menu, then quit. I then downloaded ZRP 1.07 R5 RC. I dragged the gamedata folder from the ZRP folder into my steamapps/common/shadowofchernobyl folder. I opened up fsgame.ltx in that same folder and changed $game_data$ =false|true to $game_data$ =true|true, then saved the changes. I booted the game to main menu, and saw the ZRP name in the bottom left corner. I started a game on master and landed in front of Sid. Does this match everything you did? (scrolled up and it looks like it does match everything you did)

oh yeah you could also try the experimental ZRP release XR3a

but I can't figure out what mod it actually is. He list it only as 1.4 update.

100% agree half the reason I started was because I got soft locked in S2 and was tired of hearing people complain (which they have the right too but it gets annoying to hear over and over) the other half was I just had that stalker itch and I haven’t played through the original trilogy or beating them for that matter too.
