That's one of the things that makes me jump at such times...the other areas are actually empty and desolate except for rubble and broken buildings are expected.

But Pripyat is the exact opposite, being dense and filled...there's always something there.

STALKER isn't one of those games where emotions are at play (and I never felt it in the trilogy), but S2 has actual abandoned living places, like schools, homes, stores, villages and even parts of the city...all so realistic and like...it's just there...all that waste because one reactor went critical.

NGL, that's just the ending's problem...Skif reaches the perimeter and sees a wall of energy, but that's where the game cuts off.

Nothing's shown once the screen fades to black. So everything that happens after is unknown.

There was kinetic defense and impact defense. Kinetic defended against human enemy bullets, and impact defended against mutant melee attacks. And you had to choose which you needed more, defense against humans or mutants, was very interesting. But the flip side to that is, if an armor can stop a bullet, then surely it can stop a mutants claw, so yeah from a sensical standpoint it makes sense why they grouped the defense types together but it’s interesting to think about how people forgot such a thing but didn’t forget other features.

The graphics are not really the issue, it's the price paid in game play, not adding enough depth to the later zones.

You compare Zalyssia to the rest of the game, and the area has so much more depth, side quests and touches...

I think the finial part of the game was done like that, because there was not enough time to finish the main quest properly, just jumping from one part of the map to the next.

We need to also take into account several other factors that affected the game's development, namely the COVID-19 pandemic, which was then almost immediately followed up by the war, plus rapid growth at the company. (I think I remember Mol1t or someone else saying they started development with under 100 employees, and by release they were close to 500. @waxen marten Please correct me here if my numbers/timelines are wrong.)

So S2 started development in 2018 iirc, which means they would have had two-ish years before COVID hit, at which point they now have to move most if not all of the company over to remote work.

Probably not too much of a challenge for the programmers, 2D/3D artists, and other computer-based jobs, but probably more of a difficulty for people involved in the mo-cap work and anything else that required in-person work. Regardless, it would have still been a significant upset to happen during a game's development.

Then, you have the Russian invasion almost immediately after the pandemic is waning off. From that, GSC had to deal with the following:

• Moving half the company out of the country, plus all of the logistical work for organizing said moving and the renting/setting up of new offices. Not to mention the monetary cost of the whole thing.

• Dealing with a server room fire at their new Prague offices that takes out an entire floor. IT infrastructure is expensive AF and requires expertise to set up properly.

• Near constant psychological stress for the employees still in Kyiv, and for those who are in Prague worrying about friends, family, and their homeland.

• The real physical danger for those employees still in Kyiv, plus the aforementioned psychological stress of being in an active warzone, the loss of friends and family, etc.

Additionally, experiencing massive growth over a short period of time (going from under 100 employees to 400+ over the course of a few years is kind of nuts) is going to lead to chaos as well. Onboarding, setting up payroll, benefits, training, etc.

Frankly, I'm amazed the game released at all. I'm fairly certain that if GSC hadn't had to deal with all of the shit they did during the game's development (and are still dealing with now), the game would almost assuredly have released in a better state.
