where do you find the new acer nitro 5 with rtx 3060 for pre order
lel
well go search around on best buy and amazon and stuff
@granite haven and also wegg
Can't find it yet. All Acer said was February. We're on day 4, might be a few more days
is this good https://www.speedtest.net/result/10874880630.png
Okayish
you should see storage woman's speedtest lmao
?
Number 1 isp
My isps cheapest plan provides 200 mpbs
Number 2 router
My router is mesh
Number 3 ethernet
icy box lol
What’s the best monitor under $300 and with g sync?
bruh
@rocky creek what about sabrent :(
Reboot modem?
they r nice too
Hello
I am not sure if I am in the right chat or not. I am looking for help regarding product selection.
What were you looking to buy?
I am looking for a fanless mini computer that I can install VPN client software on so that I can access our BMS system on remote job sites that do not have a VPN router or IT personnel.
Sounds like you want a NUC
I do not know what that is but willing to learn!
These NUC kits usually don't come with RAM or storage, just a reminder.
Well that looks interesting but a bit pricy for the application. The situation is I can view the webpage (managed from the BMS computer) on site but I just need a device that I can VPN through to access it. Nothing will be stored on it but the operating system and the VPN software. Basically it would just be on the network sitting 24/7 unless something goes wrong with the system and I need to look into the BMS that host the webpage. It would be just web brousing remotely.
This looks nice for our office.
Here's a cheaper one, you can just toss in a 4GB stick of RAM and a small SSD
https://www.newegg.com/intel-boxnuc7cjyh/p/1VK-004K-001W5?Item=9SIAFJ8B0E2546&Description=nuc&cm_re=nuc-_-1VK-004K-001W5-_-Product
Okay this also does not have an operating system correct?
Correct
Okay better off with the one that you picked then. I have seen on the site the fan less units with the external heatsink. Does this have a fan? I ask because it will reside in a dusty environment.
Yeah I've seen those too, where the case IS the heatsink
The ones I linked don't have fans
A review says it does not have a fan.
You can always save some money and just use a Linux OS
Okay great! Looks like it will do the trick then. Thank you.
I will have to look into Linux OS. I never used it only heard of it.
It comes in a lot of different "flavors". I like Mint, Ubuntu is decent for beginners.
They install the same way as Windows does with automated installers. The only trick might be drivers, but with such a simple system it wouldn't be a big deal.
Okay
Do you guys know a good monitor under 200$ that runs at least 144hz and has 1080p res

Hi Malcom, while you can design your RAS or Remote Access Systems the way you are suggesting, you may want to consider using VPN appliances with a support contract. This way you are not managing the security vulnerabilities that will arise. Look for a low-end VPN FW, Cisco even has one on Newegg for $129...
Here is a link on NE:

so D1918H is a good monitor?
so im trying to motherboard test to see if i get a signal. i have my cpu, the fan, and ram on it already. i heard you didnt need to connect my gpu just yet to test but when i do test im not getting any signal. ps i have a ryzen 5 1600
Yeah... but without a processor with an iGPU you won't be able to see anything anyway
Just don't forget the power cables like I did that one time (ok two times)
dont forget that you shouldnt spill a gallon of milk in ur pc
Luckily new GPUs can put a message on the screen that says something to the effect of "uh, I don't have power, did you forget something?"
would it be safe to store my built pc in the box my case came in? i dont want to worry about static discharge while its not being used
That's what I always do when I'm moving. The Styrofoam shell it comes in is plenty of protection. Static isn't much of a concern, but if you're paranoid get a cheap anti static bag.
I'd remove the GPU to avoid sag but that's it.
I'm looking for a new WiFi adapter for my Mini ITX computer, the one it has now is this one
this is mSATA right? So in theory i can just use any MSATA WiFI/Bluetooth card?
Also, different question:
I need to add some Powerline adapters to my room, because the router is downstairs and I can't stand using the crappy WiFI adapter I have in my main PC right now (not the PC im talking about above). I'd need 2 ports in my room, and then one downstairs near the router. Is it possible to link the two ones in my room to the single one downstairs?
i think so
i used a wifi extender and i used wps
and it connected
then i just connected an ethernet cable
Nah mines a Qualcomm atheros or however it’s spelled
hwllo
Spamming every channel doesnt level you up.
Lul
Stupid question, how do I get a proper ethernet connection without drilling a hole or two or running it across the house?
normal cross home lines are in the walls, if you cant drill holes and feed it through and the router isnt too far away you can try a powerline adapter
or you can do something like this xD
As long as the adapters are all on the same fuse box, powerline will work fine. You might be speed limited though, how much depends on your kit and your wiring.
I pull ~125-140 mbps with a random gigabit kit
fuse box?
Metal box with switches that control the power to each room and protect the house from overcurrent and surges. Most houses have one that controls the whole building, but if it's especially large or there's an addition to the original house, there might be more.
Did not mean to reply that to you vic. But a powerline adapter kit will work for you too.
I think I tried that and it didn't work. Then again I probably did something wrong
Because my room is sorta far from the router
Also nice name @kindred yacht
Distance doesn't matter much, but could add latency.
Thanks, always nice when someone recognizes the game
Hmmm
A common mistake people might make is assuming the kit is completely plug and play and they forget to sync the boxes
That's probably it
as long as its stable im fine, my USB adapter throttles or soemthing and ill disconnect for seconds at a time and sometimes ill even fully disconnect and will have to restart like 3 times.
Wdym by fuse box?
Sounds like the usb is overheating
I run torrents at a stable speed through my powerline, not much will stress it more.
@old moss If your house is less than 12 rooms and hasn't had any additions made like an attached garage converted into a office, then you likely don't need to worry about that.
mm, he fise box is that metal box with all the switches right
like, with the breakers right/
Yeah it's also called a breaker box
oh, i think i actually might have two of those
lemme see
so turns out i do have two @kindred yacht
Ok, what rooms? Typically they'll have the switches labeled on the inside what each controls.
As long as the router room and destination room are on the same box, it'll work.
lemme see again, lol
just gotta see if the office one is on the same box as this room's one
so, @kindred yacht, theyre on different boxes
Ah tough break. No way to avoid running a wire unless you want to do hybrid powerline/wireless but that's just a bad idea
*mine's probably realtek lol
Amd 5950x i bougth it
Anyone out there that would be willing to help me find a good Wired Router. My skills in networking are somewhat beginner, but my home is already wired with CAT-5 and I would like a non-wireless router to do most of the work. Need/want 24 ports and gigabit or better. Any ideas?
Hmmmm
is this strictly internal network?
Or does it need to go out to the internet as well>?
Well.... thats where my skills are beginner. I am thinking.... from the modem to the wired router.... then from the wired router to computers and a wireless router/access point thingy... lol
24 ports is getting into business grade prices. It would probably be better to get a 10 Gb router with a couple ports and a switch with the 24 ports you want.
If you already have a modem with a gigabit port
I'd recommend a switch
Because no matter how many gigabit lines you have, the internet connection speed will always be the bottle neck
okay, I think I see. So I should get a wired router (small like). And also a 24 port switch?
Any suggestions on a high grade 10Gb router?
What is the purpose of this network though?
Sharing large files or just general connectivity?
umm..... I just want it to be high quality. Its for me and my tech kids. Games at the moment, but I want their to be mass storage for all of to share. I'm currently not worried about any bottle necks.
SO something like this https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Unmanaged-Rackmount-Lifetime-TL-SG1024/dp/B003BU0EKW
Any routers as well? And just so you know, these questions might be irrelevant to my wants/issues.
I am thinking of letting a none wireless device to do the routing. Hoping to just find a beafier solution to all the pressure on the current wireless router we have. Let me have a look at what you linked
Hmmmm, so a multi port router with no WiFi
But I find that its either buggy, or over heats. Not sure thought at the moment.
And I will still need WiFi, I would like it to not route.... if thats a thing.
like... have the traffic flow through the wired router.
hope that makes some sense. lol
I believe so. I have never installed one, so I don't know what they are like.
and that would mean, the wired router would need to control its traffic.
SO something like this to handle the addressing https://www.amazon.com/SafeStream-TL-R600VPN-Broadband-throughput-Concurrent/dp/B007B60SCG/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=gigabit+router&qid=1612907810&s=electronics&sr=1-6
And then this to the router for WiFi access https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Insight-Long-Range-management-warranty/dp/B01NCJGL9H/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=WAP&qid=1612907856&s=electronics&sr=1-2
Cheap enough https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cisco-WS-C3750X-48P-L-48-Port-PoE-GbE-Switch-w-C3KX-NM-1G-715WAC-15-iOS-1-year/274677845653
$109 3750x
Not sure if thats what I need. Looks like it might be a little bit out of my skill range.
I like me a good Cisco unit
Most switches are just plug and play if you don't need special configs like vlans
That's a rack mount though, so you can either get a small server rack or build a custom mount for it. It's easy enough to build one.
You could let it sit on a table like a simp but that's an insult to hardware
We shall see. Either way, thank you all so much for the help!
Make sure you label your Ethernet cables. You'll thank me later.
@empty ridge just grab a unifi switch theyre pretty beginner friendly
and grab some of their access points too
and ur set
I'll search it out, thanks!
currently my lab runs on unifi and

and yes do what @kindred yacht said and label the ports
cables*
although you can also label ports in the unifi management UI
Yeah okay buddy
ok
ok
I mean there's actually somewhat concerning things about discord
but that ain't one of em
Not a lot they can do with an IP address unless they're just DDOS'ing people for no reason. Most home addresses are NAT translated by the ISP so hard to connect directly to.
Discord is made in a way so you can't get an IP directly from it.
See how it says "personal computers" also, that's a local IP which is useless to anyone across the internet.
Hello all! Looking for something that maybe one of you fine folks might know a path I can check. I'm looking for a head-mounted device that can act as a POV Camera for video calls that connects via wifi or cell signal. The purpose is to remotely view a technician's POV to help support a product. The on-site technician does not have to see the remote supporter's face.
go pro
you can mount on a helmet, and connect it to your phone
to have a view of the camera
@earnest elbow
How do you integrate that for the video call?
Like, can it be used as the webcam for a zoom/webex?
idk much about go pro's but i think that there's a media mod for them that allows you to have a hdmi out and you can use that and plug it into a capture card device like https://www.amazon.com/eyesen-Camcorder-Facebook-Recorder-Broadcasting/dp/B08DTDSJYP/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=capture+card&qid=1613059920&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A3GAZZ1LHIY6RQ&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE2NFlKSUE2M1pEWDcmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAzNDc1MjkzVTlMWVowNlBRM1E0JmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5MzAyNjEyUDdRUFY1S1A3SjlCJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
I thought of that method, was worried about the complexity on-site for setup and needing a computer there to take the input
And the wire tether
Smartphone app, boom done
Bonus points if it works on older phones
^
So basically what you're saying is that I could setup something a bit cumbersome, or pay to get an app developed to take one of the wifi cams and use it as a live view webcam
Anyone know of a smart glasses option for this?
You mean like the Google Glass things?
Those get pricy, like tens of thousands each
Just modify a gopro head mount with a smartphone clamp to hold it
You don't even technically need a custom app, there's plenty of video call apps that work beautifully for business needs
True
You have valid points
I think Google Glass Enterprise 2 is like 1300, but I don't know what kind of software is actually available for that
So it's Possible, and I use Possible loosely, I could even run just the standard Google Duo app on that?
Yeah I'm pretty sure the default gapps are installed out of the box, but never owned one of those myself.
Duo is nice for what it is, but far from the best.
100% agree
Something tells me I wouldn't know what I'd be getting with those unless I was to just try a set....
Information is kinda lacking
The Glass Enterprise 2 runs android 8.1, but it's free to send an inquiry for more info
Eh, I'll get a set and try it. I'll let you know how that turns out, thanks for talking it out.
No problem.
There's always multiple ways to solve a problem, and yes it does help getting another viewpoint
e
No
Hi for gaming is it worth it to pay more for a 1440p 144hz monitor? My other option is just 1080p 144hz.
What card?
Rtx 2060
Ah, I had that card
and 1440p
It's worth
Looks so much better and it will do fine with no Ray Tracing on
With Ray Tracing performance is oof
Ok thanks, I think I want a 144hz 1440p ips monitor now lol
Yes!
Ips is the best right
Honestly, I have a VA and IPS sided by side
Good viewing angles and colors
IPS has better color accuracy
Ok cool
Do you play Cold War?
I don't
I'd love to get a M27q, it's just an amazing panel, and I could compare my 1080p144 va panel to a 1440p170 ips panel
i have a 2060 super and i use this monitor Dell 24 Gaming Monitor - S2421HGF
aside from the fact that if you set the response time on extreme you experience ghosting the monitor is pretty good
ghosting as in on extreme response time when you move at least in csgo the screen becomes whiter
Yeah, my Dell is at 165hz and I don't have ghosting. I think I got lucky with mine
question are we referring to the same ghosting thing?
Yes
@void pawn they're also saying ghosting only if response time set on extreme, maybe try that for you?
nice
Ye, I don't play CS:GO but in all my other games I don't have issues
i seriously think I got lucky because I've seen a lot of people complain about ghosting and Dell monitors
what games do you play?
Saints Row IV right now, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ark, Conan, Cyberpunk, all over the board lol
also it might be because of my drivers that i get ghosting
yeah on saint row 4 on extreme if i move i can see a white outline around npc
even moving the camera
are you using any preset?
Ultra or whatever the highest setting is
preset from the monitor
mine has presets for fps, moba, sports games
in the monitor settings
when you can fire up a game and set the response time on extreme
if you can manage to get your hands on another monitor with ghosting it might be easier to see the diferences
It might ghost on extreme TBH also
try one under the fastest setting for response
if the monitor has overdrive it can cause artifacting
Ye, maybe that's why I don't have issues
Can I use 70% Ethyl Rubbing Alcohol on my Fan Blades?
Yes
I wouldn't use it on electrical components like CPU or motherboard though
Should be 90% or higher for those
Thank you
I’ve used hand sanitizer on both of those things, worked just fine
No lies
NOt saying you're lying
any recommendations for a "budget" microphone?
AT2020
@amber idol oof but its XLR... I'd need an amp right?
Phantom Power Supply
but you could get a cheap USB Mic interface
Way higher quality than any headset mic
or cheap usb mic
Interesting. Aright thx
@willow light how much you looking to spend
preferably under 80 and 100 is pushing it
I really like the samson q2u as a budget dynamic, if you want to push it the elgato wave 1 is pretty sweet, on the xlr side of things id say maybe a xm8500 with a m track solo interface and then get a stand, xlr is a bit tricky on budget @willow light
Yeah it not being XLR wasnt my plan to begin with. I know they can get expensive. But thanks for the recommends. I'll happily take a look at them
right
Wave 1, Snowball Blue, Yeti
blue cring
the snowball is extremely nasally, id take a hyperx solocast or q2u over it and yeti is a little outdated now the wave 1 easily beats it in the price point
I have a snowball, playing audio from whatever on it seems just fine
hmmm has a dedicated mic but doesnt talk
xD
f
Got it when I could speak
Now
I can’t speak
o
Anyone here?
👀
Hi does anyone have any experience with an asus zephyrus g14 rtx 2060?
Hi
Bye
wtf is that cam?
something wrong with it?
its alright
kinda stupid now that new ver is out
what does the new version hve that the older one doesnt
besides new cpu
new cpu and new gpu
so
dumb to get old one
i think better panel too
and slightly better keeb
lol
good thing im not using it for gaming tho
clevo cool tho
tru
Why does the rgb on my computer not boot up when it does I have to go into mystic light to apply it
If that only happens occasionally, then it's probably just a BIOS hiccup. Pretty common problem. Sometimes mine will get stuck on red until I reboot it.
He’s not talking about boot lights
He is talking about system RGB
But yeah that’s just something that happens
Looked like you were talking about boot lights
It never stops on a specific color for me
Just goes rainbow
The default for the MSI mystic light is red so it turns on red and doesn't change when the OS starts to load like it's supposed to occasionally
I think it was ASUS that defaults to rainbow? Or Gigabyte
TL;DR Just a BIOS hiccup
Icue always defaults to green
My msi ones usually go to the right setting right away
29 instead of 50% is like not realizing you were having trouble breathing until you got outside where there's more room
Hol up 12 gb is illegal
Do you have an 8gig stick and a 4gig stick
I hate everything about this
lol no
It has only 2 actual slots
And yes, I mixed, 4 and 8
Simply cause this thing has only one slot for ram to be added, other is 4 but soldered

At least you had room to expand, I've seen laptops that had one stick soldered and contacts for a second slot but no hardware soldered to the contacts, so no expandable slots
Yeah, at least
hello
yo
Bruh.
@calm mural I’m kinda interested in mining and I’m wondering if there’s any simple ways to get into it. I have one 3060ti.
Ask mando about it :) not familiar on nvidia cards.. @simple sierra
Ah thank you
Use Trex miner
Get a wallet
Edit the wallet address in this to your wallet address
put it in same file as Trex and run it
Is there a YouTube video that you reccomend that could walk me through it?
Ehhh
Also is this any more profitable than something like nicehash? @calm mural
Where do I get a wallet
Oh ok
Hi. I'm looking for a new pc that can handle three monitors. Suggestions?
Any graphics card with 3 display outputs
Or are you talking about triple monitor gaming
Not for gaming. I just like having the space. I have two monitors at work. I want three at home.
What computer do you have at home right now?
Currently using my wife's computer and she is getting tired of it and wants me to get my own.
she has a dell.
Do you just use the internet or do you do other applications
Are you going to be video editing, rendering, or any intensive work at all?
What kinda budget are looking to follow?
hdmi, dvi, the digital one
I found a pc but the graphics card only has one dvi, one DisplayPort, and one hdmi
yes, monitors have hdmi, dvi and display port
Here’s one
it has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 card.
Yep
looks like it could do 4 monitors?
You could plug 3 into the graphics card and one into the motherboard I would guess but I’m not entirely sure
This is amazing. I can't thank you enough.
If you bought this I would recommend buying a 16 gb kit of ram, and possibly a 500gb sata ssd for some extra ssd storage
You can dm me or @ mention me here if you have more questions or want recommendations for ram and stuff
@simple sierra sorry...had to take a call. Yes - recommendation for a ram kit and ssd would be great.
i was going to try and get 16GB ram
Crucial ballistics ram is pretty good
not ordered RAM in a long time...do I just open the computer up and see what will fit before ordering?
I'm at a University so our IT department took over all of that
so that computer has 2 slots. looks like i just buy new ram and replace what is in there
If you wanted to be extra sure, take out one of the RAM sticks and post what it says on the sticker
That way you know exactly what kind is compatible
He has t bought the computer I don’t think
this is from the HP site...
Here is the information: Memory upgrade information Dual channel memory architecture (One DIMM per channel) Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933) Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit systems
Ah so yes you can just order new DDR4 and swap them out
as far as the drive...also from HP site
Yes you can install a 3.5" drive in the computer. It has a sata drive connection cable in the system for this.
Thanks for information on the swap out
I saw a review that you can install a 2.5” sata ssd as well
any recommendations on that?
The 860 evo is a pretty good budget drive I’ve heard
I am getting crucial ballistix 3600MHZ 32 (2 of the 16)
latency is 16
Thank you again. Tried contacting Dell and Newegg for support and they had nothing compared to you
If you haven’t already ordered the ram I would recommend getting slower ram and saving a buck because that motherboard most likely won’t support anything more than 2933mzh
Here is the 1tb version for the ssd, most likely you won’t need that much unless you are going to be storing movies, or have other large files so you could get less if you want
great.
having the over clocked ram won't hurt, right? price of the 2666MHZ is same as 3600mhz
just found the 3000 mhz. It's $20 less
do you have a link?
i was going to go with the 32GB, not 16
with computer and ssd i'm still under 1000 with the 32 gb
or close enough
was talking with my wife and we may allow our son to get on to do a little gaming. He is just about to hit the age where he needs a starter
he can buy a high end once he gets a job and saves a bit. haha
How old is he?
I actually just found this deal on a computer that’s very similar but with a slight graphics card boost for cheaper
do tell...
530 with the code listed on that website
same memory and ssd?
I’m a man lol it’s fine
Figured 90% on discord are men
Here’s a parts list for ram and memory https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qDLxL2 it looks like it would be about 270 dollars
ok...that new computer is ordered...so don't find any better computers or deals
$800 total for a great machine. Perfect.
Honestly wish I would of found a deal like this when I was looking for a new computer lol maybe I wouldn’t have spent 1200...
I don’t even play very intensive games
Who am I kidding I probably would of spent this much anyway lol
you can sleep well tonight knowing you crushed it for someone else at least
This has been the most wholesome conversation I have seen today
is it normal for my sub to start emitting a sorta strong smell of wood or am i pushing it too hard? happens every time i play music really loud
If you sniff the port when it's been off for a while, still smell like wood?
As long as it's not a burning smell, could just be normal mdf offgassing
That said, most mdf can release formaldehyde, not great to breathe
GFUEL?
Sneak
Razer Mamba Elite, or Deathadder V2?
neither
Anyone here recommend a good boom or table mount for an MV7 as well as a Nikon D5600?
mamba
I think I need to upgrade my router 🤣
Apparently it can't handle backing up to the storage drive I attached to it while also streaming both to the local network and from the internet at the same time.
What's the point of gigabit if it hits 100% load at 250 mb?
ok
what router lul
that a cpu thing i do believe tho i am wrong somehow
Tp link archer c8 v3
“electronics” is vague, can someone show me how to put in a capacitor to a coil gun circuit?
NOt without knowing the circuit itself
could i show you or something in dms or
yeah, that's a no. I know what that is and not allowed here. I was checking with the mods to be sure
oh
oh ok lol
The reason it's not allowed here is that they can be used as weapons.
ah
anyone have experience in simple dc motors, and is this the place to ask?
Which type
the simplest DC motor ever is 2 pieces of thick wire and an AA battery and amagnet
I only have experience with Andymark and VEX motors
I need a quiet motor to steadily rotate a cylinder at around 5-10 rpm. The purpose is to slowly pull a long strip of paper into a spool, likely around the diameter of a soda can. The weight of the paper itself is negligible
now that I think about it, it doesn't necessarily need to be DC, those are just the options I was looking at
Hmm. I'm not sure how best to approach that.
Im' trying to find some options
Problem with electric motors like that at low speed is they are jerky
So you need to run the motor more quickly with a reduction mechanism
I was looking at something like this but I felt 12v was way too to big try to do with a battery pack and keep lightweight
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M30I4E7/
There's no amperage rating on that
Typically th ebig brushed motors like that take some power to move.
I was thinking you were going to use some kind of an Arduino like device to control it and was looking at brushless motors but if you need straight DC from a battery that's a different animal
SOmething like this, with package D or E for the controller won't take much power https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000020199798.html
You could get an RC Car 11.4 volt lithium pack for the 12 volts
Keep it lightweight
planetary gearbox is the best bet for getting a good slowness
Yes
okay, thank you!
Anyone know of a good monitor to run 120hz for ps5?
Whichever the cheapest one is
ok thx
If you don't need very much torque you can use a resistor in the circuit to slow the motor, but a gear box will keep the torque if you need it.
anyone here?
Yes
no
hi

Hey can anyone give reviews on xps 15 7590 it is on sale for 1400 usd thinking on buying it
lemme see
which version
the 1,399.99 one?
my Acer Nitro 5 ($700 from amazon, new) is better than that
and it was slightly marked up
you can get something from Xotic that is light years better than that for the same price
@pallid iris
why?
its just a laptop
gaming branding be damned, I dont want to pay 2x as much for a laptop I wont get full use out of
What exactly are the requirements?
functionality, not looks
@pallid iris there is no real reason to go with the xps 15 7590 at 1400$ when other newer laptops, although 'gaming', that perform better for cheaper exists. Unless you have something very specific?
No I don’t have anything specific just more college student needs and light gaming
Ya I think cheaper gaming devices are better but I am also thinking about portability
I got to Cary that thing around for like all day
I mean, to start off, MSI GF65 thin with a 3060, absolutely slaps the xps laptop in anything, for 1200$, 4.1lb when the xps 15 was 4+lb.
I'd prob try to find something else since MSI laptops have bad reputation with cooling, but just an example to start off @pallid iris

Hey what about predator tuition 300?
1300 usd model
Hey why does it shows 2 to 3 hours of battery life
@pallid iris 2-3 hours with a dGPU is normal, you'd probably want to just use the iGPU when you're using the battery anyways
lemme see the trition
where's the 1300$ model?
there's this on b&h
Maybe it’s on sale
Razer usually interesting price wise
You can turn KB RGB off, so you can make it look normal
mhm
I think I am going with this on
Hope I get a good experience and it is not TOO heavy
@pallid iris Fair, weight wise, it's basically exactly the same as the xps, and just in case you have thermal issues, you can get laptop cooling pads either from xotic, or some off amazon that can help with thermals.
So im looking at the laptops I was recommended yesterday for doing 3d work on the go.
THINKPAD P17 MOBILE WORKSTATION
and
XOTIC G170KM-G (X170KM-G)
So im trying to stay within or around 3,500. When I get ether of these lapops to around that price, it seems like I can build an alienware with similar specs for cheaper unless im not understanding something right. Whats the best I can get for Around 3k (3.5 max)
Things it must have is a 500gb os drive and a 1tb storage drive.
Alienware bad
Cooling sucks
Specs usually suck
But especially cooling
And RAM speeds
Alienware is infamous for that, actually
Plus customer support sucks
See: Linus Tech Tips secret shopper series 1
Sponsored by DBrand
loll I dont really care about whats bad. I have already had an alienware once and I wont get one again. Im just wondering where to get the best for my mula
We told you already
so even at 3k, thoes are still the best to go?
We will alert you if that changes next time you come here (not likely)
At pretty much any price
ah XD okay hahaha
But especially higher ones
okay just makign sure if the price was a little lower if there wasnt another competator that was good
Finally ordered the thinkpad. The shipping time is estimated sooo long 😩
did you order directly from lenovo ?
@cobalt tree yes I did
shipping is gonna take like 20 years lol
i ordered a laptop a while back and it felt like it was in transit forever lol
DX yeahhhh this is gonna take a while. Sad day
If you customize at all it takes a bit longer
no you cant
oh nice just saw u got the thinkpad
it might be a few months

I have a range extender for this, is this capable of fully utilizing 2.5gbe?
Mmm, I think they add the bands together to get that number, let me check
IE, 600 mbps on 2.4 and then 1600 on 5ghz but not sure
SOme do some don't
Nope
The AC2200 rating keeps it from being top of its class, but its speeds were very impressive, maxing out at 116Mbps on 2.4GHz and 655Mbps on 5GHz.
Look for WiFi AX or WiFi 6 if you want fast speeds
That's WiFI 6
no
wifi speeds dont matter as much as ethernet speeds
and that only uses gigabit ethernet
so youre not getting anything over gigabit no matter how fast your wireless radios are

actually made me laugh irl
Sooo am I able to get this serviced
Fr?!?
What?
For real?
For real what?
That’s normal?
Yeah
Appreciate it!
It’s for grounding purposes
Right right ✍️ keep that in mind, still don’t understand what was restarting my pc buutt I order new parts so we gucci

If I remember correctly, that's pin 19 and that's normal to look like that.
Roight roight ✍️ I honestly got a little worried there
B450 tuff gaming
Ryzen 7 2700x
Xfx 580
Patriot viper some 16gb ram 3600
Pretty good
Remind me: does Zen+ have support from 500 series boards?
X570 only I think
Yuh, I am building a new one for my brother but as of rn I’m tryna just make sure my pc is stable enough so I can start on another
Almost no one knows it exists
I don’t even remember if that’s exactly what it’s called
👌
ok
so
I'm building a computer in the nzxt h510 case (my first one btw)
and there's like missing wires in it or something like I've been watching a video for like 2 days and I can't figure it out because this case is way different
is there anybody who knows how to build a computer inside this case?
I'm just trying to play with my friends😭
pls just @ or dm me if you can help I would appreciate it so much
Why did you buy a H510
It has terrible airflow
There's much better cases with RGB even for the same price
P360A is one
they already have the case
trashing on h510 can wait for later
I gotta run else I would
I'll try
TY
@finite crane Do you have the front io cluster of cables? I.E. PWR_SW and reset and such
ok so I had another person from a different server who I have known for a little while help me with making it, he said it would be good and I had no idea that it would be bad
but one second
no I don't think I have those
I have a few things plugged in maybe I could send you a picture of the ones I do have?
idk
whatever helps
I do have a few extra cables though, I don't know if I need them or what they are for or whatever
they don't have names on them though
it seems I only have 4 wires left, one from my hard drive, one weird one with a cap on it, and two little three-holed wires coming from the case
@finite crane yea, DM me a picture of the pc if you can
The whole thing if possible
So, I am wanting to replace the router modem combo from cox (I think it is arris tg1682) with a separate modem and router. Any recommendations?
I founds somebody already sorry
@weary pasture might wanna wait on that surface laptop

my next laptop will probs be one of these
new laptops are very tempting
ive decided the next thing i get is gonna be a convertible thing like a regular surface pro
but i dont think i needa retire my g14 yet
how much is a decently spec one go for?
$860
cheapest i could find including the type cover and pen with the i5 128gb 8gb model
doesnt seem too steep, but definitely not cheap
its a good deal compared to an ipad air which comes with half the storage, no facial recognition, and all the limitations of not having windows obviously
and costs more
samsung's tab s7 or whatever seems pretty nice
its like the only ipad pro alternative that im aware of
the surface seems the best equipped to turn into a laptop
and ipad pro too expensive
ipad and samsung tab are better for dedicated tablet
surface is much much better for laptop experience, not as good at tablet
yea, i wouldnt use one without a laptop or computer around
yeah
surface has usb a + usb c
webcam is worse but in a better spot for video calls in landscape mode
type cover is probably better than smart keyboard
i remember one of my old teachers had a surface, and being able to detach it and walk around with a pen and tablet was super cool
type cover has a row of function keys for brightness/vol/media, magic keyboard does not
yeah
surface pen also has an eraser side so you dont need to switch to the eraser tool
pretty sweet
most of the stuff in the market is a tablet with laptop like features
not the other way around
would be nice to see more laptops with tablet like features
i had a 2in1 and it never felt right flipping it all the way back
zach check my ping u nerd
absolute loser

that doesnt have a detachable keyboard
its cooler
its not the same kind of product as the surface
it does if you pull hard enough

i prefer it because its nicer than the surface in terms of upgradability and maintenance
i feel like itd last close to forever
and 3:2 screen as well

also will probs throttle much less
wait lol the surface laptop is like 800 for an i5, 8gb ram, and 256gb ssd?
the 600 is for 4gb ram and 64gb storage

probs means it uses emmc or something
lowkey might give my laptop to my sister and upgrade
i wouldnt get any modern laptop for over $500 with only 4gb ram
especially if its running windows lol...
and yeah 64gb emmc no thankyou
windows is the definition of bloat
I only have discord open right now and im using 6 gigs of ram
i even debloated windows
Acer Nitro 5 btw
get rammap
what does that do
lol
@fierce hull eats up used ram and gives you free ram
i never got why ppl complain about windows ram usage
like yeah it uses lots of ram on idle but like
if you pay for the ram dont you want it to be used ?
according to task manager with only discord open rn
itll remove old programs from cache when you want to open a new one
also lul single channel

and?
what laptop is it
¯_(ツ)_/¯
im not going to go to microcenter and get some more notebook memory if its not going to be utilized
lame
why go to microcenter for ram
they only have okay deals on inland stuff and gpus and cpus and boards
everything else is just average
@fierce hull Cox is my isp is 350 mbps download and 30mbps upload
wonder why\
If that was you posting links you can't until level 3, and spamming doesn't level you up

I need help to find the correct Ram for my PC
I am wanting to upgrade my ram to 16 gb from 8 gb in 4 slots so 4x4gb current ram DDR# dell intel (R) core (TM) i5 - 2400 cpu @ 3.10ghz operating system win 10 64 bit
sorry that was DDR3
Any DDR3 RAM that's not ECC should work
Make sure it's the same speed as your other sticks
meaning by speed?
and would any of these work? https://www.newegg.ca/p/pl?d=16gb+ram+4x4gb+DDR3 really appreciate the help!
Type DDR3
Size 2048 MBytes
Manufacturer Nanya Technology
Max Bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz)
Part Number NT2GC64B88B0NF-CG
Serial Number 4017167971
Week/year 34 / 11 This is what is in it now
Yes but those prices. Ouch.
Frequency CAS# Latency RAS# To CAS# RAS# Precharge tRAS tRC Voltage
JEDEC #1 457.1 MHz 6.0 6 6 17 23 1.500 V
JEDEC #2 533.3 MHz 7.0 7 7 20 27 1.500 V
JEDEC #3 609.5 MHz 8.0 8 8 22 30 1.500 V
JEDEC #4 666.7 MHz 9.0 9 9 24 33 1.500 V
you may want to look at the used market
You think 4 for 105 is too much?
a bit
that's more than 16 GB of DDR4 3600
^
Also, why 4 sticks?
I know it's not canada but still https://www.amazon.com/Team-Elite-1600Mhz-System-Memory/dp/B00FAY0S08/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=16GB+DDR3&qid=1614540456&sr=8-3
old PC 4 slots and old user to smile
Yes but do I not need to use all slots?
Here is another silly question can I use all slots by using two of mine and two of the new?
Thanks I guess that means no, any order in which they should go in , as not using all slots do i just put in the first two slots and that is it?
Well, you can but it will all run at the slowest speed
And sometimes mixing ram causes issues
and Order of installing?
It SHOULDN'T be an issue
CPu only supports 1333 anyway
Need to check motherboard as to which slots to use with 2 sticks to make sure it's in Dual Channel mode

is everything on newsegg safe? I just ordered a 3100 and it's been awhile and I checked the reviews and it was horrible, now I'm afraid I'll lose money
Only things Sold and Shipped by Newegg are guaranteed safe
oh rip me then
yep
resin printed laser holder
noice

arduino uno, but using the smd atmega chip so the board can have image printed on it

What's the best 2-3k laptop on the market rn?
something something Xotic
on jah tho
go to their website
pick and customize a laptop
its that easy
they are heavy tho
as gaming laptops tend to be
name is sara, you think I'm a sir? lol
idk bro u could be trans or somethin
Is nzxts start pc better or lynx digit storm pc. Better
NZXT tends to use "open box" or refurbished parts so they're cheaper
Build Redux is good too https://buildredux.com/
Out of the literal 750 games in my steam library, steam only reports about 30 as being Linux native, and those are mostly indie games.
Oh, plus minecraft. That's not in my steam library
my windows has died once and it was a 10 min fix
and i heavily mod all my installs
@sturdy jolt hi whats up? what snapdragon 888 phone is the best
dunno
🤔
Don't look at phones
?
I don't look at phones
I got a Pixel 4 for ~500$ iirc, but I just get whatever looks nice specs wise, I don't care for the best specs since I don't exactly game too much on my phone
pixels are so expensive comparing to performance
prince performance
k40 pro + has s888 12gb ram 108mp 32bit 384khz 4520mah battery etc
👆
@coarse ice problem is, I got this phone a year ago, AND I have no use for the extra performance
So...
Pixel Xa are usually pretty good though
also, I thought 108mp sounded high, @coarse ice looks like 64MP rear camera, 6/8GB ram, on s888
oh the pro plus, it's not even out yet lol
Ye, ofc tech gets better over time, thought we were talking about past products
its the cheap version of xiaomi mi 11
what about vivo iQOO 7
another s888 phone that is out now
Here you will find where to buy the Vivo iQOO 7 China · 8GB · 128GB, for the cheapest price from over 140 stores constantly traced in kimovil.com
do you trust dxomark scores
its out Xiaomi Redmi K40 Pro+ Status: Available. Released 2021, March 04
do you really need the most powerful phone for your money?
if you spend more than like 300 on a cellphone you have issues
at least thats my opinion
or you have money to burn
prolly gets mega hot
It's as available as a 4750g. :p
running apps so fast, battery life & camera is very important for me
most of chinese phones with s888 12gb ram outside of china are $900
so expensive
dont get s888
