he is saying the difference is 5$ between CAT5 and CAT6
Oh
Fr?
Well.. ngl.. that might get expensive, because my house has no Ethernet in the walls
need help with random physics question related to magnets
if i have an electromagnet, and i push the north side of a permanent magnet towards the north side of the electromagnet, and the distance between them decreases because they are unable to push away from each other, what happens to the current running through the electromagnet?
does the resistance of the coiled wire increase due to the presence of the opposing magnetic field?
would voltage increase or decrease?
i don't know how to google for the answer to this question, and I'm really bad at math sooooo...
i guess
if i have an electromagnet, and i push the north side of a permanent magnet towards the north side of the electromagnet, and the distance between them decreases because they are unable to push away from each other, what happens to the current running through the electromagnet?
@eager bison i think. repeat I THINK that the current would pass through the permanent magnet, simply because diamegnetism isn't related to electrical flow. if they're touching or in close proximity, the permanent magnet (should?) conduct the signal. magnetivity of either magnet shouldn't change tho
interesting experiment
i'll try it out tonight, when I wake up, and get back to you
the magnets won't be touching, just getting close to each other.
Im thinking of getting this as a gaming phone i guess
Not sure if there are better options out there
ewwww
For price and performance
It doesnt have to be gaming
yea but why would you get one? that's so pointless
I just want something that runs really well with games out now and good overall screen quality
ok then y u need gaming phone
Thats not a laptop or tablet
pick up a moto g7
get a cheap phone and a nintendo switch ez
play real games on the go
not crap phone games lmaoooo
pick up moto g6 and a nintendo switch
Are switches even in stock?
Welp, im getting a new phone cause my old one is shit, so the switch will have to wait
you can get a switch lite for cheap
moto g7 is 200 ish$
and nintendo switch is 400$
get both
same price as the other phone u looked at
@cloud dagger

mk fine i'll send links
Do you think its on amazon cause i got a $40 gift card with them
Ok
hello
anyone a good android tablet for decent price? dont care if it has play store or not
Huawei MatePad Pro looks nice
Got it figured out i guess. Turns out his ethernet was either through power line, or wireless extenders that have a port in them. Either way, that was the problem because when he plugged straight into the router, all was fine. So miscommunication strikes again. Thanks for the help tho @strange perch
oh lol i assumed he was direct into router from beginning
As did I
@nova osprey you are very welcome :)
@quiet grove I just got the amazon fire hd 10. its the cheapest tablet i could find with a 1080p screen. its on sale right now for $150 cad. hope it helps
Yeah amazon tablets are crap, had a hd 10, returned it
Hey guys I need some urgent help with my MSi laptop
it's not charging
I plugged it in, all the cables are secure, I checked that the power socket works
But it doesn't show as charging, and it just died and won't turn on
What do I do??
Yeah I'm here. Looking for solutions
maybe the battery is faulty?
Yeah what I was thinking
is it good to plug in without the battery to see if it turns on?
Or your AC adapter is bad
id prolly just rma it
that too ye
The battery isn't removable from the outside and I don't want to unscrew it in case I void my warranty
I think it's the adapter
But I don't have any tools to test that
Could be the charger itself
Wdym
That's standard voltage
most of the writing on it is in mandarin so
One sec
The laptop itself is an A15 A10RAS, but idk if the charger is always the same
How many watts, volts, and amps is the charger?@calm mural
Hold on
Input
AC100-200V ~ 50-60Hz 1.5A
Output
+19.0V ---4.74A 90.1W
@graceful mauve
Ok
@calm mural I think I found it
Here's a replacement
$80
This is your best bet rn
That isn't the same one
This is it
Bro it's in mandarin I don't know
Crap
Bro I live in new zealand I can't afford to have days and days of shipping
RIP
It's either a problem with my AC adapter or more terrifyingly a problem with the battery
because my laptop has been running very hot on a lot of games
You'll have to use a local vendor in your country. Or someone from Asia
Wondering who
Reason: Bad word usage
Yeah extreme heat yep
Define extreme
the model number is on the other side of the mandarin
Like so hot you can't put your hand on it?
what cpu/gpu do u have on ur laptop
nvidia mx330
I found the charger, jake. Now he needs to find it nearby
yeah but im thinking the wattage might not be enough
the charger worked perfectly 100% of the time up until today
And I have no clue why
I really really hope it isn't a problem with the battery
ah then yeah prolly charger
How can you tell
a laptop can perform without a battery
You mean if it's plugged into ac the battery doesn't matter?
yea
I can do the same with my laptop
Alright
One sec
i sure hope you're right
Also I tested the socket using my phone charger and my phone was responsive
So it can't be the socket I think
Adp-90yd d adapters | genuine Msi adp-90yd d laptop adapter charger in singapore - Buy new msi adp-90yd d 19V 4.74A 90Wh laptop adapters, adp-90yd d laptop chargers Adapter Brand: genuine Msi Input Volt: 100-240V 50-60hz Adapter Output: 19V / 4.74A Adapter Power: 90W Adapter ...
Yeah that's the right one
From Singapore. Closer
But honestly I dont even know if I have the spare money and am resultantly panicking
first of all did you use it a lot before it went off?
maybe contact msi
maybe let it cool off
see if they would replace charger
make sure the air vents have clearance next time
and use the laptops options to run at full fan speed
if it opens up that is
did it charge before that?
The charger and laptop have been fully functional for about a month, since I purchased it
@dense ember
so today it happened right?
The laptop was turned on and functional when I began experiencing the charging problems
oh
It was plugged in securely and turned on, but still showed the low battery icon instead of saying it was on charge
And then it died
So it's almost definitely the AC adapter
so you have to buy a new charger then?
it could still be the battery not all laptops pass power around the battery
yeeeahhhh... but got no money
Nilbo I don't have any way to find that out
It's a 'gaming laptop' so I would assume so
What sort of laptops typically do or don't have the feature
usually a gaming one will 🙂
and ac adapters are relatively inexpensive
Its not damaged or anything it's perfectly intact and I'm careful with it
Yeah nilbo but I don't have any money to spare at all
hopefully the warranty will cover it
Yep
they might have you send the whole thing in to diagnose the problem
I don't know whether I contact MSI or the store I got it from
Id assume the store right?
store first
but if you dont like what they are offering dont accept
then register it on MSI website and call MSI
Offering?
like they say they will only return it with a $50 restocking fee or something
Hope so
Anybody got aux cable speakers they’d recommend?
I need so advice, should I return my lg cx and wait for next year
amazon basics rca cables actually look decent for speaker
Alright
but if youre looking for 3.5mm then idk just a generic one is fine i guess
is there any word of when the 3070 will be avalible?
@molten cargo no. only ones that know are Nvidia.
oofers
Even Nvidia doesn't know when they'll arrive at retailers
or when retailers decide to list them up
they know @sturdy jolt
which is why the finance call is going to be "fun"
because they know what the production stats are
@strange perch I mean, for the usual consumer, they care about when they can get them, not when they get shipped :)
aye aye, fair enough
aka. When they'll get listed for being avaliable
aye aye
the places i have worked where we in theory could use something like that.
we just shredded the hardware instead
Lol I though of getting it to clean a friend's computer
its not for "cleaning" @red shell
@gleaming epoch and i was not talking about just HDD's
Have u heard of the RedKey?
@gleaming epoch for those places, it was everything
keyboard, mice, ssd, cases, everything.
Have u heard of the RedKey?
@red shell linus did a video on it
I'm gonna add that I didnt watch it
keyboard, mice, ssd, cases, everything.
@strange perch wha-
Why
Keyboards mice and cases to waste
Bruh
there was more important things to worry about for those people.
Like what?
I am going to begin to assume you worked in some sensitive-information government thingy
close enough
prints was one of the theories i had for it
never got a confirm or denial on that thou
Ah ok
I have some unique ways in destroying keebs and mice,
Acetone
Let it soak in a barrel of acetone
It eats away the plastic
Or you could just burn it all
I'm pretty sure fingerprints don't survive in fire
everything was wiped/cleaned and then shredded :)
at the pay they offered us, we didnt really care :)
Ah ok, how good was the pay?
enough :)
its been years :)
I'm just kidding :p
I might try to get a job at my local microcenter
And I should study for my uhhhh
What was it called?
I think it was the A+ certification?
Yes A+ certification
best of luck :)
@CrackheadMcQueen I'm pretty sure that key I posted yesterday does the same thing
But you plug it in and pc goes brrr. It's not as fun as exerting your rage upon a physical object.
Hey guys I’m looking for a decent laptop for gaming and college work for about 1-1.5k. Main thing I would like is portability and power. Any recommendations?
Asus Tuf A15 for the price to perf
https://www.newegg.com/fortress-gray-asus-tuf-gaming-tuf506iv-as76-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834235406
Wasn’t there a lot of overheating problems with it
People hyped it up as having issues
my friend has 4800h+2060 with no issues
swapped in more ram too
@hazy crater The thermal design was inefficient iirc, but it works.
Does anyone have a good knowledge about Philips hue
Does anyone have a good knowledge about Philips hue
@obsidian saddle they look amazing, they work great
if you can afford them...
ah they work perfectly well. It's really a matter of how much you value the bulbs
very reliable, though, with long hours and low envir. impact
Question- Looking to connect WIfi from the main house to an apartment 100 plus feet away from the house. Has to be wireless . any ideas?
Do you think a range extender will reach 100 plus feet? no power outlets between house and apartment
oh yes
its just a question of the model of range extender
something like this is about 200 feet
TP-Link CPE510
Thanks. I will check it out
best of luck :)
Since i just built my new pc, whenever i use the desktop version o things like twitch or youtube. The videos don't load for me. Not sure if it's my internet or what, jw if anyone else is having this problem
@errant hound right now, all of youtube is not loading videoes
okay thanks, wasnt sure what was wrong
you are very welcome
Naed doin gods work
Anyone here know wifi cards?
I was going to get this one but wasn't sure: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bQ8Zxr/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac56
turns out its not a good idea for windows 10
whats the best head set with microphone under 69 bucks
whats not a good idea for w10?@nimble sorrel
that specific card or a wifi card in general
@granite haven You can buy a half decent headset and slap a modmic on it, thats what I did
whats the best head set with microphone under 69 bucks
@granite haven i would buy a razer kraken x usb... it as a pretty decent mic, but mainly it's stupid comfortable... also buy a razer THX spatial audio license, u get a discount with the headset
if ur streaming or something, don't do that
but if u just need something to wear with good sound quality and a mic for calls and stuff, this is ur headset
what about the SteelSeries Arctis 1
what about the SteelSeries Arctis 1
@granite haven not sure
I have a HP Pavilion Laptop. I am having a hard time find a docking station that will extend my displays and help me set up a work station. Is any one familiar with these laptops and their specs that could point me in the right direction for a docking station. My goal is to hook it up to my Dual Monitors at work with my keyboard and mouse all connected as well. Thanks
Hi everyone! Can someone explain the difference between the PS5 bundles that are priced at $699 and $679?
I asked for help from a Newegg rep and they verbatim told me “I don’t have knowledge in the product thing” wtf you need to get fired.
@fast furnace from what I can see, the 700$ comes with "Spider-man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition", and the 680$ comes with "Spider-man: Miles Morales Standard edition"
Ohhh the editions are different on the games. Ok thanks so much!! I was going crazy.
Quite expensive, but something similar to this is what you'll be looking for
https://www.newegg.com/black-wavlink-69dk1/p/1DN-0023-00014
I have to go soon, but what you're looking for is a docking station via USB-C @queen egret
(Pulled from dell for the pavillion 15)
I saw that someone was talking about the razer kraken x being crazy comfortable, but if I don’t care about a microphone, is there anything else in that price range that is super comfortable as well?
Right now I’m using some old broken twice and fixed with super glue beats solos
Like, would the normal krakens be better than the x’s?
It’s at a pretty good price rn
Most likely the first one @calm mural
thx
How powerful is the ps5
Hey my motherboard is really old, this is the only place i could find it, and im thinking if i were to upgrade my setup the first thing would be the cpu, so if anyone could help and tell me what the best cpu compatible with this motherboard is that would be appriciated https://www.newegg.com/p/1JW-000C-001M5?item=9SIAMB9B1F0564&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googlemkp-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googlemkp-pc-_-pla-unihorn-_-motherboards+-+intel-_-9SIAMB9B1F0564&gclid=CjwKCAiA-f78BRBbEiwATKRRBB4_8TdkpGistdCyBl__IwBNFCXu5koiWdbBoLDeYHo3QaZtu2UK9xoC1vUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Hi I have a build question involving Compute stick(s) and touch screens
does anyone here know of anything like a cooler for a rasberrry pi
ok thnks
what hed set with mic has like back round noise cancelation
budget
around 60 - 70
like with the backround noise on the mic i know theres some but i cant find
what i mean is a hed set with mic with microphone backround noise cancelation where the backround noise in the mic is gone
rtx voice best for noise cancellation
idk that headsets have cancellation software built into them
oof
but in mic terms, dynamic cardioid best for picking up less bg noise
well i found one but i want to make sure it actually has it
has anyone tried the ps5 with a ultra wide monitor yet
How powerful is the ps5
@jolly hazel it’s a bit stronger than the 2080
@whole copper normal solution is thermal pad in a metal case
so that you get a more direct contact to the case
if that is not enough, then a small finned heatsink with X amount of airflow across it
if that is not enough, then a small finned heatsink with a dedicated fan
wow the ps5 is strong then
considering that the price of the ps5 is equal if not cheaper than a standalone graphics card of the same strength, that's amazing
Guys where is the group or whatever to sell stuff or no?
Can’t sell stuff in this server.
@cinder crane hardware swap on reddit is a place
Paste it real good
Lol
huh
Good luck
seems like a low price
It's dramless
sad
¯_(ツ)_/¯
it's SLC tho
Like
tlc with slc caching
The only 2 things I hear is Life span (no exacts) and slight speed
no dram, but it is 2tb
lol
so slc cache very beeg
someone
Ah slc caching has nothing to do with what a dram cache does
One gets you higher peak writes, the other makes the drive not kill itself slowly
basically once you run out of slc cache, the ssd will slow to a crawl lmao
can't you set up cache on your system ram with a dramless ssd?
@runic garden s s d. Sheet
HMB
@wide vault it's called hmb
and its only with pcie ssds
yeah that
Only some SSDs support it
Yea and only nvme
and not all pcie ssds support it
Only some
cuz most have dram kek
my 1st ssd
There's the sn550 with no Dram or hmb
@runic garden well, next time, you should use the SSD sheet to find a drive with dram
what sheet?
Since you already have the cx2, I can only tell you good luck that the drive's speed doesn't just die
I googled hours and found nothing
that 2tb drive will make a fine game drive tbh, install games and other programs, but i would suggest getting a cheap nvme drive for your os and specific programs
like 128gb
that will kill it faster
Mhm
Rip my ms30
Tbh when I'm home I'm gonna run CDM on my ms30 and see how bad it got
the ms30
you know I won't be at my pc for another like 2 months right >:P
oh
Random but really important, people running versions of Android older than 7.1.1 are going to see lots of certificate errors and compatibility issues starting Sept. 2021, Let's Encrypt dropped support for the root certificate that most older Android devices have (the bot won't let me add links)
whats better for streaming on consoles hd60s or hd60pro?
I'm getting a loud buzzing noise from an amplifier I have (harman/kardon AVR 65) and I found this thread discussing the same issue as me (the buzz doesn't change with volume): https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21000&start=15
Would this be safe for me to attempt? I've done simple repairs on controllers/consoles and some soldering before, never touched anything this complex-looking.
Looks like the loud buzz is going away for people when they disconnect "the video board"
It does say on the back "warning: risk of shock, do not open" and there are some sizeable capacitors in there.
However I doubt H/K will want to replace a unit from 1998.
Right for what? @runic garden
asking if it has Dram
thankyou
are there cameras that can see the flow of electrons?
like on the scale of a full circut
anything I need to know about the HD60 Pro elgato?
@calm mural You can kinda do that with an exposed die and a nice high def thermal cam. You won't be able to see the individual electrons, but you can see what areas of the circuit are being used
It's also possible to use an array very very sensitive radio receivers to detect the flow of electrons and get a decent idea of what they're doing
anything I need to know about the HD60 Pro elgato?
@gloomy pewter what about it? btw obs is better
Wdym obs is better, it is a capture card to be used by a software like obs lol
no i do- it's just if ur not running an alr expensive system, obs can run on gpu, right?
im not too positive
Yup
But the capture card doesn’t use the pc power
But OBS obviously does
I would recommend streamlabs more than OBS tbh
Can run on hardware encoder yes and that is good for most people. Capture card would be if you are doing a dual pc stream setup or console streaming. And i am the opposite i prefer obs studio over slobs lol, or streamelements plugin for studio
U can do dual pc stream setup without a capture card tho @green stream
can but works best if you have a capture card
Yah true
need gpu for fps
My friend does a lot of console streaming be wants an internal capture card anyone know anything about them?
if you are using the display captured in obs as screen for console there is a bit of a delay, idk much about but i bet eposvox has a review, he does a lot of streaming gear review and guide
streamlabs is obs
some people call it slobs
stream labs obs basicallu
and if you're streaming, slobs is much, much easier
Ik thats why I reccomend it more
¯_(ツ)_/¯
slobs is easier for beginners, the general function and setup is the same i just feel slobs has a bit more bloat. this may be a bit extreme but reminds me of using a phone camera vs using a dslr
as a note, easier =/= better
I havent used slobs so I cant say much, but def dont use "easier" as a way of saying it's better. For all I know obs is harder because it's more advanced. To which therefore would technically be better to learn and understand so that your streams/recordings are better quality for examlpe.
I need help, I have some type of port on laptop, and I don't know what it's for. Should I post a picture here or should I go in General chat?
Okay
If it looks like this it’s a Mini DisplayPort
No, it's by the battery on the bottom
Hang on, I need to find it now
Wait, how do I put a picture here?
Np
Is the Logitech g pro x a good headset ?
eh
Controversial opinion
But the new radeon cards look more smexy than the 30 series
I had to say it 😔
meh, looks about the same as last launch only difference is amd's top tier cards are more on par with nvidias top
I was saying more atheistically
From a design
Of course the pass through cooling/whatever it's called on nvidia will probably be better
xD
Anyone got any recommendations for a sound bar?
with the current gens amd has the better raw raster, nvidia if you need their rtx stuff or if there is a specific application you use that is better optimized for nvidia
Terrorpup i'd go with 6800/xt
over nvidia, i am soon gonna update myself to ryzen +6800xt
with ltt review on the 6800 i would say the RTX 3080 or 3070 is better
if you think you will use ray tracing a lot or if you would stream, nvidia would be better
just casual gaming, amd has better performance
I have a question
I'm on an old dell that has a 290ish gb hdd, and I have a 240gb intel ssd that I have. is there a way to switch the os to the ssd easily?
no?
yes?
anyone?
If you installed a software like aomei partition manager on the laptop and then connected the ssd to it you can clone the system over relatively easily
Is anyone here? Need an advice on laptops
ask your question in as much detail as you can, and if someone knows the answer, they will answer @thorny turret
I am looking for a work/gaming laptop with a bit of a punch. SSD size doesn't matter as I can use external, cloud storage or replace SSD myself later on. I narrowed it down to two choices which I will post. I wanted to get a second opinion on which one is better.
or
17inch important to you?
Because I personally like the Tuf A15 with a 4800h+2060
https://www.newegg.com/global/uk-en/fortress-gray-asus-tuf-gaming-tuf506iv-as76-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834235406
I just got the aorus 5, which is basically the same laptop except for the screen size. I am really enjoying it and i think its great. I thought about the second one when considering which laptop to buy and I read lots of people complaining about heating issues
I mean I would prefer 17 but 15 would work as well
a17 just doesn't offer those specs that I can see sadly
@rocky plover Yes I also saw an overheating issue
From my experience the screen on the aorus is really nice and the keyboard feels also pretty good for a laptop. But it gets pretty loud when you're gaming, it has quiet mode but it gets pretty hot when you game on that mode.
There's talk of potential overheating on the A15 but someone I know in belgium got it with the 4800h+2060 setup and no overheating
What do you mean it is loud? The fans?
Another thing about the aorus is that it is made of plastic, it make it pretty light and it feels pretty good for a plastic laptop but i think it's something to consider when you want a laptop to carry around with you a lot. Idk what the Asus one is made of tho
Yup, I use headphones so I don't hear it but my family is pretty annoyed about it
you are talking about ASUS or Gigabyte?
the only model named a15 >:P
Wow! that loud?
lol sorry hadn't had my coffee yet
If decibels tell you something there is a really detailed review of the aorus 5 on notebook check, I assume it will be about the same
anyways either way there's 3 set of specs that's offered to you at about the same price
Most of the time I use it in the living room so they are there too it's not like it's from a seperate room. Also it gets loud only if you play heavier games. I can play hearthstone and it won't be loud but when i open overwatch on ultra settings the fans kick to 100% and you can really hear it.
6c12t Intel CPU + RTX 2060 with 512gb SSD and (I believe)16gb of 2666mhz ram
8c16t Ryzen CPU + RTX 2060 with 1tb SSD and 16gb of 3200mhz ram
8c16t Ryzen CPU + GTX 1660ti with 1tb SSD and 16gb of 3200mhz ram
and fan noise is something you can control to a degree
Thank you guys
:)
What laptops do you guys recomend for under 800 usd?
idk

hey, could anyone tell me about wifi routers?
i want to replace the box with dish network, but i dont know what im looking at
ASUS RT-AC1200GE AC1200 MU-MIMO Dual Band WiFi Router
is this a cheap piece of crap or a good deal at 50
Ethernet cable beats them all if your house or apartment allows it
Having 600+ ping with ethernet cable 😀
blame your isp

guys
anyone know when the 3060 is out?
what prebuilt company is recommended as a gift
for best price and build quality
would be extremely helpful
from 1000-1500
I think NZXT computers tend to be recommended here?
Maingear is pretty nice but not sure what that can get you in the budget range
NZXT Support isn't good, quality is decent, and options are relatively good
Maingear seems to have good support, decent quality, but expensive for the specs iirc
Ye main gear is nice but very expensive
redux is a good prebuilt company
no upcharge on parts, just 75$ build fee
probably an rx 570, go to #building-and-recc-chat for this
would you guys recommend intel or AMD
No I wouldn't
head over to pcpartspicker.com for inspiration... https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/PB6MnQ/entry-level-amd-gaming-build
eww
just ask for help here, plenty of ppl can whip you up a parts list
well, in places like #building-and-recc-chat where people will see it, not here in electronics
Hello all! 👋 I am looking to get my hands on an Xbox Series X. Does anybody have any recomendations for how I can obtain one? Walmart says it will be availabe Nov 25 at 9pm Eastern Time. I'm afraid I won't be fast enough. Where should I look to get one?
everywhere that sells them
Budget is not an issue just looking for help!
aye, and the best bet is everywhere that sells them
no need to be rude @minor crypt
hey guys i need some help if i were to buy a wall mount for my LG which one should i buy?
Anyone know of a good 144hz 1080p 24inch monitor, if you know of one that doesn’t have much ghosting and low response time which also has an IPS panel would be a great help thanks
guys wanted to ask: ive got 1500$ right? So: should i buy the M1 MacBook Pro (currently on a MacBook Pro 15 2018, 2.6 ghz 6 core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a Radeon Pro 560X 4GB) What do you guys think?
what are some good headphones under $90 usd?
@calm mural asking about wireless or not ?
@calm mural i would recommend asking in #peripherals-and-displays :)
ok
does anybody know a good ultrawide curved monitor for under 400?

I'm trying to get bluetooth to work on it, but after installing what I believe were the drivers off the intel site, I can't seem to get "Bluetooth" to appear in device manager.
I'm really confused as to what's going on and hopefully someone can help!
Need a laptop to run unity3d and maybe a few games between 600 and 700 pounds
This seems like the place to post this.... it's freakin amazing!

yes, but its still a very dense strip
oic I seen what you're saying, ya they looked like the tiny ones and were placed very close together.
I'm sure soldering them would have taken a while lol
guys wanted to ask: ive got 1500$ right? So: should i buy the M1 MacBook Pro (currently on a MacBook Pro 15 2018, 2.6 ghz 6 core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a Radeon Pro 560X 4GB) What do you guys think?
@indigo sequoia I'd get this still, this should outspec the M1 in every way other than battery life.

Depends on your usage... Macbooks in general are just very expensive streamlined Unix devices.
Personally as a MBP owner who got it for software development, I would NOT go with a Mac again. Would much rather run linux on a more conventional laptop and get more bang for the buck than go with the fancy looking MBP again.
I just feel like the only needs for a mac can be done with alternatives on windows/linux machine, and the Mac software optimizations can be offset by just stronger hardware you can get for the same price on a windows machine :P
On top of that be wary of the first gen re-release of any product from Apple. The first 2015 MPs had quite a few issues on release that were ironed out over the next few gens.
@sturdy jolt 100% I really only recommend them for professional office equipment and that is only because of third-party support from device management vendors doesn't really exist in a healthy way for most flavors of linux envs.
But Adobe
can someone recommend good bt headphones under 150$

have aan old dell inspiron im stealing the drive from is there any way i can adapt the ribbon cable to hdmi input so i can use it at a standalone monitor ?
its a dell inspiron aio
not unless you find an adapter or are willing to get very creative with a soldering iron @dull barn
try and search for the model name of the panel and schematic on google @dull barn
alright done this as a hobby proj
here's how it goes
get 40 dollars or so
look for the number on the back of the monitor, google it, find the panel
now head over to ali, look for a logic board for said panel
once you're done with that
its probably gonna take a while
.
then you grab it, if it came with a power adapter you're all set, just hook up the adapter, plug the display ribbon in, and attach the pins for power as it shows
that's about it honestly
Reason: Bad word usage
rah.
alright, you could otherwise just grab a terrible 768p monitor for 40 dollars like i did and call it a day
its a lot of effort but only worth it if your panel is worth more than 40 dollars as well lol
i like tinkering tbh
Question: what exactly is a panel in relation to monitors
its what display the image you see @fierce hull
Are there any IEMs with better sound quality than the PC37Xs around $100?
@ionic delta i recommend that you ask in #peripherals-and-displays
then its prolly worth it
how good is the panel?
if its a below average panel or just really mf old you might wanna skip this one
on a say, 1080p IPS on the other hand, you definitely want to shill 40 bucks for an extra panel given how good those are
computer
Ayyy, guess who just got a confirmation email for a Valve Index
Nice
Well life’s nice
is it a newly built pc?
hi has anyone build a alexa power on device on a rig ?
I love the 12 pro max but I wish I knew about the focus problem
Where does it boot loop at
@stark sleet @echo parrot thanks for the tips
Nah, I was just asking in general. I was planning on buying a used PC for the parts n the seller mentioned it having a boot loop problem
yup lmao, I'm not sure if it's worth the $60, I have pics
what are the specs?
I just know that the mother board is a msi 7641 but apprently they didn't know cuz it was their uncles. ik sketchy lmao
eh
am3 socket?
so probably athlon or fx series
id probably not go for it
heres an example of that mobo
yeah someone else guessed a fx series too, Imma save those $60
its not a great generation
fs, i would send pics they provided but for some reason it doesnt let me add pics
u have to be lvl 3
oh dang guess imma level up

Can someone dm me a good argb led strip for backlighting my desk please
The desk is only about ~3'
e
anyone use Arduino to control argb leds?
I looked into using a pi or arduino to convert argb to srgb but gave up pretty quick. It’s definitely possible, just wasn’t worth the effort for me.
Lol
Considering using argb strips to light my room and controlling them from arduino chips synced wirelessly
From what I saw, if the strips come with a built in controller, you’re fine, but otherwise you’ll have to buy 3 logic level N mosfets and do some breadboard stuff
There’s a vid on it for YouTube
I just hooked up a couple of dimmer switches to each r/g/b output and that’s how I change the colour
Manual, but works
Hey guys, can somebody help me? I'm trying to make my 2011 (Fujitsu S761) laptop a lil better using eGPU and expresscard. The graphics card that I want to use is a gt 1030 from Palit. I tried EVERYTHING to make it work but I'm still struggling.
I wish i could help you man, but Idk anything abt that specific stuff... sorry Andragon
Anyone have one of these laying around?
so im stuck between choosing the logitech pro x wireless lightspeed headphones and the virtuoso corsair se wireless headphones. I need help choosing between the two because i've heard positives and negatives of both. Audiophile headphones are not an option for me. I need a pair of wireless gaming headphones that are usb-c charging, have wireless and aux compatibility, dont have to contain a mic, and are good for both music and gaming
link me to both in a DM i am professional in this category
i already ordered lol XD
Trying to use Fax on a VoIP network. All the phone lines were removed in the house, and my telephone provider only offers VoIP. Plugging my fax into the modem does not work, but phones do work plugged into the modem. I am having difficulties finding an analog to digital converter.
i have two 20 w speakers 8 ohms of impedance and am looking for an amp to connect them to a tv.
Hello everyone, I am wondering if someone could help me decide what router and modem or combo I should buy. I have a few that I like but have questions.
@dusky goblet , I got an Asus ac3100 4 years ago, just to make sure it was future proofed, and it's held on ever since. Any modem in the $60-$100 range should be fine, since the modem has less to do than the router. Just modulates a signal. I also have a lot of electronics that connect to my router and get used at the same time (family use). So you may not even need a router that good or expensive.
How many devices do you think you will use at once on your router?
Hi YumYum, honestly it’s typically just my wife and I, and let’s say at maximum we have 3 laptops, both phones and a tv streaming. No, we have frequent guests but I don’t mind spending the extra money. I just don’t know what to get. My concern is that I am active duty military, and will be moving around. I want some thing that will work with all or most providers so I can use whatever I get anywhere.
I have spectrum now, and we have a 500mbps router. However, I have a 3 story townhouse right now and I get about 20 mbps on both 1st and 3rd floor. Which is no good. I also don’t want to rent spectrums crap anymore, time to invest in a piece of equipment.
Never heard of it. I was looking for either Netgear, arris, asus. But I’m open to others. Those are just some of the bigger names that I know. Lol
Would it be recommended to buy a router and a modem? Or just the router and use the providers modem?
7
Is there a way to come from dsl port and convert to either net port as a cable
to go to a either net port on a modem.
l
@dusky goblet theyre more enterprise routers but theyre absolutely fantastic, they do have consumer oriented stuff if you arent too into networking in general. https://amplifi.com/ heres their consumer facing site
I get what you mean, I was active duty too. the 3100 in asus ac3100 refers to how much bandwidth the router can handle at once. So 3,100 Mbps (but it is split up between the frequencies so 2.1 Gbps for the 5 Ghz; 1 Gbps for the 2.4 Ghz.
My modem I don't know what brand it is, but you want doxis 3.1 for the modem. it's future proofed and works with most providers (I do know that verizon hates sharing though. some companies only accept their own brand.)
You do want your router to be be significantly higher speeds than your internet speeds IF you are utilizing all the available internet bandwidth.
something to remember after getting the router is to check the channels. basically the router will have so many channels that each device can connect to within 5Ghz [max 45] and 2.4Ghz [max 12]. This can help with connectivity, because if your neighbors are on the same channel as you, even though using their own router, it can interfere with your wi-fi connection).
for streaming 4k you can use wi-fi, you only need 30 Mbps PER device you are actively streaming on, streaming 1080p really requires at most 10 Mbps per actively streaming device.
If you're gaming online though, I just recommend Cat6 ethernet cables directly hooked to the gaming device. There's Cat7 and Cat 8 out now, but Cat6 is still overkill. 10Gbps at 50 meters, and you can get 100 ft (30 meters) for pretty cheap (like $25). I have the 100ft because I route the cable around the top of the room for aesthetics, and to make sure no one trips over it. and a short Cat6 for connecting the modem to the router.
These are good brands, and yes I recommend separate router and modem, but mostly if you're gaming online. For streaming and downloading content, a router modem combo is perfectly capable. (Even gaming doesn't really need separate, shave off some 10 milliseconds at best). I bought my Doxis 3.1 modem from Spectrum and it works great, even though I don't know what brand it is. Also, it works with most other providers.
TLDR:
Competitive online gaming - get separate router (1500 Mbps or higher will future proof you for a while) and a doxis3.1 modem. use Cat 6 ethernet cable to connect router to gaming device.
Streaming videos - router modem combo with Doxis 3.1 connectivity and 1500 Mbps or higher.
@midnight mantle Awesome information. Thank you so much! A friend of mine recommended this...
Does not look like Newegg carries it from my quick research.
It looks like it is more expensive than what you are getting
I was kind of thinking the same. I don't mind spending the money, but it has to pay itself off.
because you can pay less and get more.
Oh, well I like that. lol What are you thinking?
an arris 3.1 modem ($115)
looking up some good routers in the $200-$300 range, which are still over kill. btw do you game online?
I do, but I have been declining over the years. Too much stuff going on. I was hit by florence, michael and dorian over the last 2 years. So, most of my time is work and repairing the house. Most of my gaming right now is just phone crap. But, yes, the longer term answer will be yes.

($170) ASUS AC2900 comparable to the Nighthawk
those are just on the "cheap" side, but will definitely be future proofed for years to come
that's just $285 - $330 for the modem and router separate. and really it is overkill still. The ones I pointed out have external antenna which give better range. I once worked on my car across the street in a neighboring parking lot and still had 5Ghz connection (that's the faster speed but shorter range)
I have the ASUS 3100 but it's not much better than the 2900 and costs $50 more, also sorry, just realized the netgear only has 2200 combined Mbps vs the ASUS combined 2900 Mbps
Netgear generally costs more than ASUS for the same specs, but it's sort of like AMD vs Intel. Apple vs PC. You're really paying extra for the brand name
The short answer is no.
The long answer is, if you already have a DSL modem, then it is pointless to connect to a cable modem. You would need 3 modem, DSL modem, a DSL to coaxial modem to convert the DSL tech into Doxis tech that the cable modems use, the finally your cable (coaxial) modem. you'd lose speed, because the max speed of the DSL modem is either what your internet providers give you or 100 Mbps if they gave you the max the tech can handle. by modulating (modems modulate) the signal more than once, you reduce your speeds.
i dont like netgear consumer routers tbh
id really strongly want to push you towards the amplifi stuff i sent
kek @rocky creek my isp gave me a hitron router and its garbage
lmao
dude the day you just say to hell with it and drop like 3k on unifi gear is the day youll be truly free

The two are very similar, afaik

Steel legend does look real nice for the price doe
I’m looking for a nice USB WiFi adapter. My budget is $25. 802.11ac 1200 is preferred. Any ideas?
I need an Answer to a Question I have, I want to get a Ethernet Switch, but I dunno if the amount of ports will include the input port, or if it's outputs only, so on a 5 port Switch, would I have 4 outputs with 1 input, or 5 outputs with 1 input?
your capitalization is so weird lmfao
5 ports total, including input. make sure to avoid "fast ethernet" its only 100mbps
So if I'd want to hook up two PCs, a PS4, an Xbox One, and a Nintendo Switch, I'd need an 8 Port Switch?
hehe switch on switch
I mean, I'd like to have a few ports open, just in case
and, I should get a Switch, right? not an extra Router?
Would a Router hooked up to a Switch, work?
afaik it should
Because, I should Probably pick up a Router too, just to do Wireless VR
Below, and off to the side yes
why tf do you type like that
lol weird
but it being below you isnt great
because pretty sure wifi signals are projected down
and out
I guess it just feels weird to not have something capitalized sometimes to me?
im going to bed, im sure lili can help u
need wifi streaming support
wifi streaming aint the best
