I really don't understand it but I just bought a new router, and I'm getting great down and up speeds on speedtest.net, however, whenever I play a game, my ping is always high, like 120+
Any idea as to why this is and what I can do to fix it

reason I like fast.com is cuz it give unloaded (no load on network) and loaded (load on network) ping. Seems like most sites just use unloaded ping to make you feel good. So you might have good unload ping but bad load ping

might want to start using some stress test thing so that you can easily put a constant load on your network, also usually allows for getting more information with the built in loggers from them. I used one a while back but dont remember what it was. Can't look into it rn cuz got other stuff to do

do you have the modem and router separate? If so, try a ethernet line directly to the modem and check to see if it's bad. Reset the modem and check again, if still bad then call ISP

So right now, I have a xfinity modem and a net gear x500 router. The issue was just as bad when I only had it plugged into the modem via ethernet, and I have contacted xfinity multiple times but not one of them know what I'm talking about. We also got a technician to come a few times but we didn't know the issue was the loaded ping thing until now lol. Not like he could of found that out anyway
The only reason we haven't purchased another modem is because we pay for xfinity voice, and we wanted to see if the router would improve things at all, because I thought it was some kind of cpu bottleneck on the old one because we have 20 devices connected at any time

more of a review for build quality, you can't use recording of the headphones much to determine sound quality because it goes through yt compression and the monitors you have, id stick to reviews from people like z reviews, dms, joshua valour, for headphones as i think they would describe the sound a bit better, or even better go out and try yourself to see what you like

I know technically it's from the point of release since manufacturers are always ahead of the current "top spec" stuff, but with the improvement of game graphics/cpu power and the advancement of current cpu/gpu tech I was wondering how long you would expect to use hardware before technically needing an upgrade (even if it still runs fine)

There is outdated and obsolete. Outdated being old model. Obsolete being it's so outdated that it has little to no use. For example using a GTX 650 as a gaming GPU would be considered obsolete for almost everyone because it's so old it cant even run some modern games at all (crashes) and rest of modern games would be very bad perf. A RTX2080Ti would be considered outdated cuz it's an old and outperformed by a 3080
So whether something is obsolete to you depends on what you do. If you're basically building a CPU based server, any GPU wouldnt really be obsolete unless it's so old that the interface doesnt work with modern PCs. So the GTX 650 in this case wouldnt be obsolete but would be outdated

hey idk if this is a good place to ask this, but how does powerline compare to wifi? i have a crappy usb wifi adapter and whenever i connect to the 5ghz band wifi, it drops a ton of packets, likely due to the fact my pc is a floor above the router. my 2.4ghz wifi is quite slow (30mbps) compared to the 5ghz (300mbps), so i dont really want to use that. is powerline typically more comparable to ethernet, or would i get similar speeds and latency to wifi?

Alright so, I have a ASRock B550 Taichi.
My Ethernet port isn't working properly
I am using a wireless connection at the moment and also there isn't anything wrong with the Router/Modem, or the Ethernet cord itself, I've replaced the drivers for the Ethernet thing, and also looked around device manager looking for "!" and nothing has popped up, I went to my Ethernet controller and it says it's working properly.
ALSO, when i plug in my Ethernet cord into the port it does work for a few seconds and then stops. It lights up and Blinkers and the Color is Orange.
I tested the Ethernet cord with my PS4, and to be sure it wasn't just super slow i downloaded a 6gb game which took about 10 mins to download.
So Ethernet cord, Router/Modem, are perfectly fine, No issues with the drivers.
Any suggestions? I was also told to either replace the motherboard again for faulty port or get a LAN card but I want to rule out any possible outcomes.

The dt1990 are very nice headphones and open back can help with that, I know the dt990pro is very neutral and a bit bright to some people but if that what you like go for it. that's not awful, but if possibly, I would try building it with a b450 board, 3400g, and then upgrading later. That way once you do add the gpu, if you add a new processor later on, it'll be a lot easier.

also if you're going to get a 1650 super you might as well wait a little bit longer and save an extra 50-80$ (at the absolute most.) and at least get yourself a 1660 Ti or hell there's even some RTX 2060's that are around that same price point or very close to it. and I agree with getting at the very least a B450 board ( 450 chipsets will support 5000 series CPU's)
but keep in mind 450's dont support pci e gen 4 in any of the pcie slots, where as a 550 board has gen 4 support for the first pcie slot

is dish like a cable or satelite thing, those dont have best quality, internet streaming from netflix, hulu, etc is much better from my experience, you can check settings. when i had cable i dont remember 4k even being an option

If you live in any sort of densely populated area don't even think of using it reliably
If you want to get anywhere near 450mbps you need to be using at the very least a 801.11ac 2x2 antenna on the 5ghz spectrum
With a mid to high QAM
And your router needs to have the same or better
If you can get a 3x3 antenna that's 802.11ac or ax with a matching router then you're golden
But then again, no more than 2 walls away or 1 floor
Any HomePNA will be better than wifi tbh
If you have existing phone network you can use that
But the best by far is always ethernet

Yeah you can only boost your wifi so much and still get poor results
And when you boost your wifi your neighboors also get poorer results
Some cases I investigated the wifi was a real warzone
Our techs couldn't get a connection standing next to the routers

Ok, so the other day, I built a pc for my friend. I stress tested it at my house, installed all the latest drivers and such and there were no issues. Now he took it to his house, and he says it "crashed" one time and ever since then his ethernet has been super buggy. I updated the lan driver and that allowed him to connect to it again but he's only getting like 1.2mbps when everyone else in the house is getting 200+. I also did a windows update, disabled ipv6, and did the network reset setting in windows settings. None of this worked and im outta ideas. Any comment?
