If yours is a desktop just go for private, since you use your own WiFi/hotspot, if you have laptop you may still want to chose private, or else public if you use a good VPN

I purchased Windows 11 for a fresh installation on this new build. I have gone through the BIOS and enamed Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT), as well as set Trusted Computing to TPM 2.0 UEFI Spec Version: TCG_2 and set Storage Boot Option Control to UEFI.

I've already opened the Windows 11 package, as I'm trying to install it, so I'm pretty sure I can't return it. I would really like to get Windows 11 installed if possible.

By the way, I don't see "TPM in the BIOS". Can you be more specific? Are you referring to the TPM 2.0 UEFI Spec Version setting I listed above?

I tried creating the USB installation media according to the notes above, but it reacts the same way - as soon as I input my product key it reports the PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements.

I tried installing again (from the USB) and this time I didn't provide the product key. It advanced to the screen to select the Windows product. I selected Windows 11 Pro and then it reported the same error, that the PC does not meet the minimum...

Well, I tried one of my USB installers for Windows 10 Pro (which I have from another PC) and it got past that point of the installation. It looks like it's going to be able to install. I still would like to install Windows 11 if at all possible. Is there just a bad setting in my BIOS which is preventing this installation?

I can provide the other hardware I've got installed, but it's all new and typical stuff - I would think it would work.

Fixed it, figured it out myself, just for next time if you get someone like that instead of a command link, its on a windows 11 os, when it happens its a one drive sync issue and windows cant find the wallpaper, changing the wallpaper fixes it.

Hey guys. I have a quick windows question. I built a PC & had trouble installing windows. After I took it to a micro center it worked fine but the day after I couldn’t boot it up without a black screen on the monitor. Could it be a poor windows installation? I changed from Displayport to HDMI, reseated everything, did a CMOS reset and booted it up without the GPU as read on a reddit thread lol. After I did all of this the farthest it got to was a BIOS startup. I clicked save and reset & back to the black screen it went. The manual which came with my motherboard (Gigabyte Z490 VISION G LGA 1200) says:
Operating System: Support for Windows 10 64-bit. I assumed this meant Windows 10 or above. Does this motherboard only support Windows 10?

I installed Windows 10 and now can't get the on-board network adapter to configure. It says the drivers are not installed. When I try to install the drivers from the provided disc, I see a terminal window open briefly and then disappear - it's too quick to see what it's saying. I'm unable to get the LAN driver to work on my Gigabyte Z490 VISION G motherboard. I've installed Windows 10 on the system (for now) and looking at the device manager, it shows the driver is not installed. I downloaded the latest driver from the Gigabyte web site (Intel i225 LAN Driver version 1.1.3.28, 07/01/2022) and although the executable appears to run and do some work, the Device Manager still complains there is no driver installed.

Note that I also installed the driver from the CD which accompanied the motherboard., but that didn't work either.

I tried updating the BIOS on the motherboard to the latest available on the Gigabyte site, but that also didn't help.

That's a super generic error. A lot of the time it's a misbehaving driver and you can try driver verifier to see which one. Other times it's a bad overclock or hardware.

Regarding my inability to install Windows 11 on my newly-built PC using a Gigabyte motherboard, it turns out the problem was that the main drive (M.2 SSD) had to be partitioned using the GPT partition type, and it was using MBR. Once I converted it, I was able to install Windows 11 - Whew!

You'll need to download the wifi drivers from the MSI website. If your mobo came with a USB stick, it should have then on there. If you don't have internet on your pc at all, you can use your phone to download the drivers and then plug phone into pc and transfer the driver installer.

I have a new PC build using a Gigabyte Z490 VISION G motherboard and an Intel Core i9-10850K CPI. Running Windows 11 Pro with all MS updates applied and all the drivers/software from Gigabyte applied. I'm getting multiple BugCheck crash/reboots a day (slightly more than 1 per day). The most recent one I wasn't even doing anything on the machine. It happened while I was sleeping. Just because the driver is from the motherboard page doesn't mean it's the latest ones. You'll want to check individual ones from AMD, Nvidia, Intel, etc, including things like WiFi

Would the Windows USB installer you can buy be... well, for lack of better words, the Win OS burned directly onto the storage drive in it so that it's unalterable?
On the one hand, it's very handy for its purpose of installing and reusing, and gives peace of mind. ... assuming it's compatible with the hardware to a large extent.

But when the OS contained in it can be 3... no, 7 years old... there's bound to be compatibility issues fatal enough that key components like wifi/LAN will be inoperable so that the rest of the functions also remain inoperable and can't even be updated...

A case of 'Now You Know'. Worked fine for my first build, but I wasn't really aware of the alternatives. Didn't want to complicate things either, as it was stressful enough to assemble the parts.

But I've learned now that what worked for a Ryzen 9 + ROG STRIX X570-E software-wise wouldn't necessarily work for an 12700k + EVGA Z690 Classified
And in the past 2 hours, I disassembled the USB drive. Still usable even after that! And sure enough, it's a solid chip with no physical interaction/switch to turn Write Protection on/off, and nothing software-side could remove the Read-Only status of the 2015 Windows 10 in it.

Well if you're on Intel 12th gen with a 12600k or higher you need 11 for the thread scheduler.
Besides that there's not a lot of difference. 10 is supported until 2025 iirc, and I prefer it because it's easier to neuter the data collection.

Hello, I was hoping to maybe get some assistance, been having a weird crash starting on Saturday where the entire screen would freeze, and the speakers will let off a very loud buzz. I was wondering if its a Driver issue that i'm experiencing (assuming its my video driver i updated it to the latest). I'm at a lost if its a hardware or driver issue. Anyone have a good clue or experienced this in the past can point me to the proper direction.

Run the repair script in the pins to start with, sfc and dism. That often fixes windows issues if it's a corrupt OS or something.

Is there any way to easily check to see what most recently updated on my pc and caused it to restart? Windows update is set to not download updates or install them so it wasn't that. It wasn't the latest nvidia driver as that is still wanting me to download. Otherwise I don't have anything else that would restart after an update, but I know that something did because my phone got super hot for no reason (which means something of substantial size was downloading) and made my pc restart. The issue I have with that is:

1. Nothing should be downloading without my permission
2. Nothing should be restarting my PC.
3. It reset some of my settings.

You can see in event viewer. Use the filters to search. It'll often be under a kernel event.

Once you find a reference to the restart check the nearby log entries for errors or crashes.

I would like to keep my windows up to date, but on my time. I can't have it be downloading things when I'm sleeping when I don't have my phone either plugged in to PC to tether, or on my phone cooler if using hotspot.

Because tether doesn't cause my phone to heat up and my phone cooler makes my phone cold to the touch even while downloading over hotspot.

I have a PC build using the Gigabyte Z490 VISION G mobo with the Intel Core i9-10850K Comet Lake 10-Core 3.6GHz CPU and Crucial 64GB (32GBx2) DDR4 2666 MT/s CL19 DIMM memory. I'm struggling with a crash/reboot accompanied by a BugCheck log entry which doesn't tell me much (just some memory issue, which could by anything, I guess). I would like to swap the DIMMs around to see if one of them is the problem. The manual for the board says with 2 DIMMs, install then in A2 and B2 - but doesn't say what to do with just one DIMM. I would like to try each DIMM separately and try it in different slots to try to rule them out as the issue.

Can I install just one DIMM in this board? Can I install it in any of the 4 slots?

I did run the MemTest86 and it made it through multiple passes without any issues.

I'm installing Windows 11 Pro, if that helps. I have an SSD installed, but I've deleted its partitions and installed a SATA 1TB drive and installed Windows to that and still get the crash/reboots, so I think that rules out the SSD - or do you think just being connected on the mobo might be enough - even if it has no partitions? I just didn't want to take it off the board while testing, but I can if you think I should.

All you really need to do is run it, it'll probably pop up with a window warning about an unknown file. You can click more info to get the run anyway button.

Ok I thought you said you were able to get into windows eventually after a few tries, but I might have you mixed up with someone else. It sounds like you'll either need to repair the bootloader or reinstall windows. Reinstalling is easier.

so im having a weird problem. I booted up my PC lie i usually do, and for some reason, when i play a video in chrome, no sound comes out. the chrome tab says there is sound playing but when i go into my audio mixer, chrome isnt even listed

Then as long as the SSD hasn't been on long enough for the TRIM command to run you should be able to use any file recovery software

Yeah that's usually a bios setting. The installer does a slightly different check than the one in windows update also.

Hey guys, my friend just built a computer and he was installing windows, when he was doing this he walked away and then came back. When he came back the monitor was saying "No Signal" he kinda freaked out and tried to turn off the pc but it wouldnt turn off and hes just stuck sitting at a blacnk screen saying No signal. Are there any fixes to this?

Sounds like their pc crashed or more likely just went into sleep mode, if they press the keyboard/move the mouse that should make if so, it it just doesn't turn off you can always turn off the power at the wall

I am trying to do a fresh Windows 11 install on my new built PC. But, during the installation I face this issue where no drives are detected. I have installed 2 Samsung 980 Pros and can see them recognized in BIOS.

I downloaded the Intel RST driver as suggested in various online forums and tried loading them. But, still no luck. Any help is highly appreciated

thanks for suggestion. I have found out the problem. Turns out Google made Google keep extension to be only used on Chrome and not on other chromium browser, and that caused the problem. Turn off that extension, problem solved.

Ok I'm here to trying to understand this thing I'm having, each time I check the task manager of my ram and its saids im using fully 16 gb of ram.

However, when I go inside the msconfig where you enable the maximum memory as well as your cpu cores, I have that checked off, but when I checked the maximum memory and reboot it saids now im using 12.3 gb and I can see im actually only using 12 gb rather then 16 gb. Now I'm not to sure if my pc is using all my cpu cores fully or not. Even if I enable all cores and put 16 that might cause me to use only one.

That's just Windows 11, it happens sometimes. Restart your PC or just restart explorer.exe

In command prompt you can do taskkill /f /im explorer.exe to stop explorer.exe and start explorer.exe to start it.

Usually some thunderbolt devices can be used with regular usb 3.0 in which case you may only need a usb c to usb a 3.0 adapter. But that depends on the device. For example the Apollo I am only seeing as backwards compatible with thunderbolt 1. You would have to look around online to see if other users got your to work without thunderbolt.
Also at least that I know, there is no way of converting a thunderbolt connection with the same bandwidth on standard pcs

You can if you want. Most of the bugs have been worked out and performance is nearly identical. There's a few new features on 11 so check a list of those and see if any interest you. If not, you can stay on 10 until 2025 and have it fully supported.

memory is ram not your ssd. ssd is unrelated when trying to boot off of a usb drive, make sure you created an installer properly, just plugging in a usb drive will do nothing for you

first thing, check you temps using HWinfo64, secondly check your ram and cpu usage in task manager and see if something is taking a stupid amount of time and thirdly you can try running this batch file, which will run SFC and dism which will hopefully fix any corrupt windows files if there is any
