Like dark pros would be what you get for OCing
I got them for $70 the price on the box is $140+.
3200c14
Or crucials
Ballistix are really good for 'cheap' OCing
Generally it's just B die or nothing for OCing, but rev E is really good too.
That's what I meant by I didn't know if they were "cheap" in terms of quality.
Black Friday price plus some haggling.
Reve or revb are good
revb?
The 5100c19 kits are revb
huh
And rng 16gb sticks
RNG isn't great
Its 50/50 dr reve or sr revb from crucial with 16gb sticks
32 gb sticks are dr revb
Reve is an 8gbit ic, revb is 16gbit, and b seems to clock higher than e
huh
has anyone experienced gpu die damage from liquid metal
i've seen pictures of weird stuff left behind after extended use but most people say it is fine
there's leftover tin that gets dissolved when you reapply lm
ok
how good of a deal is $100 for an evga epower v
also would something like this be better for attaching epower than wire or copper sheet?
i am thinking silver would minimize any potential voltage drop
and what gauge should i be looking at for copper or silver
lonk
you can trim everything after the "?"
pro gamer move
does that work for all links?
any link that you are trying to share, yep
alright thanks
things like SaaS applications, like office online, no
installing an epower card, can i run into issues using too thick gauge wire or copper sheet?
i'm looking at some .062" or about 1.5mm sheet i found
around 16 gauge
seems fairly thick while still easy to bend hopefully
No, but you can do some rough math to see if the current density is anything to worry about
since i don't know what wattage i'm going to be pulling with my card
mostly because i don't know what i can cool
how would i do math to see what the max that metal could handle is?
so i can just get something overkill
I think the epower maxes out at 600 watts
So figure 600 / 1.2 volts = 500 amps, calculate the cross sectional area of the copper conductor
That's normal for the vrm output
Remember the vrm output is only at 1 to 1.5 volts or so
alright so say my piece i cut is 90mm wide
the stuff i found is 1.5mm thick
cross section is 135mm squared
i'm looking online at what gauge wire you need for 500a, but i'm finding mostly industrial building stuff so it's at 120v or 240v which is way higher wattage
the recommended gauge for that stuff is 750mcm which is a cross section of 380mm squared, that's way overkill
Remember it only has to travel a centimeter or so
no pictures i see of epower cards have 4.2mm copper
yeah that pic looks even thinner than 1.5mm
i'll make it work
there's big cpu coolers and i got my backplate too
Maybe with -20C ambient + a delta fan
if i do epower i don't have to worry about gpuboost throttling though right?
so i could run a higher temp than the 53c i get now
or would higher clocks not be stable at higher temp even without driver throttling
for the record i am not on a stock titan cooler
That's not related, and would make it temp throttle even harder
so there's no way to stop temp throttling?
actually
just thought of another thing
gpuboost controls power limit, voltage, and temp throttles
Put it on water, no more temp throttling
if i at least didn't have voltage or power limits, would i be able to push a higher clock even with temp throttling?
gpu boost knocks me down like 15mhz every few degrees
but i can probably gain more clock than that from power limit+voltage anyways
i'm not expecting to be at a super high temp at a safe-ish voltage
i'm not going for a record i'm planning to daily this setup
i'm already planning to go from a raijintek morpheus ii to a big cpu cooler like a noctua nh-d15 or bigger and some beefy fans
i really should be able to keep it under 70c
hopefully well under
why wouold you even epower a daily gpu?
you epower when the stock vrm is in sufficient for the core
aka when several phases have blown up and its down 20-30% of the stock phases
just to try it
it's vastly overkill i know
i got the gpu for a really good deal and i just found an epower for a really good deal
then just use the gpu and sell the epower
This
Even if you pick up a $20 cpu/gpu block on amazon, those things work surprisingly well
Kept my 560 ti <10c core to fluid temp at (admittingly) light load, ~150 watts
@finite steppe If you just want to play around with epowering something, pick up a 1030, that's what I'm doing for practice
are there any waterblocks that cover the gpu and memory but not vrms?
Would be too hard to make something like that universal
Just use thermal tape + IC heatsinks off amazon
That's pretty /r/atbge
might actually try it
do you know any good universal gpu blocks with top mount fittings?
this actually seems pretty decent
but there has to be a good brand name one
GPU Universal: 79X0/R9 280X GPU Spacer for GPU-only Blocks - HEATKILLER GPU-Xยณ Core LC - VRAM Heatsinks (12 pieces) - HEATKILLER GPU-Xยณ Core 40 DIY - HEATKI
i need one with inlet/outlet in the center like the one i posted
my brain just called that top mount idk if that's correct or not
don't want it to block any of the memory modules
would an intel cpu block fit a gpu?
Just put thermal pads over them
Hereโs how u oc, turn on xmp :)

Jk jk, but itโs good for ram if u donโt know how
I havent actually ran xmp on my current stuff
i used 2 of those for a build once, they work pretty well, the brand is freezemod
i was surprised to see they actually have directed water flow and fins
all of these blocks come out of the same factory, so regardless of the chinese-english name the product is listed under, the block itself has the freezemod name printed on it
price has gone up too, i only paid 46
oh, that ebay listing comes with a backplate?
the amazon one does not
fyi
don't know if i could use the backplate on a gpu anyway
here it is even cheaper but the shipping is atrocious
this could be promising if it also has real fins
but you can't see
freezemod makes some good cheap stuff imo
oh crap
they brought them back
when i ordered mine, they didnt even have a listing for them, so i had to get mine off amazon
but now they do, cool
Temp sensor in the block is a cool idea
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
this is like a newer version
idk what difference there is besides the shape
fittings are rotated
maybe performs better?
there is this which is great but then i can't mess with epower
unless wires or copper plate can manage to squeeze under it
yeah i don't see how
i would have to remove the heatpipe and grind away the vrm coldplate
nevermind found my deal
swiftech cpu block, gpu block, pump/reservoir, and 120mm rad for $60 shipped
Not bad at all, but invest $120 or so in a nice 280/360/420 imo
oh yeah
even not including the rad it was still worth it
not using a full cover block lets me still use my arctic accelero iv backplate too
now i need to find a nice thick 360mm rad and i'm gonna do a push-pull fan setup
i have a lian li o11 clone for a case so i can have 3 fans pointing straight at the gpu/epower too
I really like using an alphacool 420 x 60mm rad with 3 P14's on it on pull arrangement
Quiet because the fan's intake side if offset from the fins, push pull is a waste of fans imo
Gaming
that's arctic p14s right?
i like my p12s that's what i was gonna use
i would do a 420mm rad but my case doesn't fit it
i can fit a super thick 360mm though
yes, I'm a huge arctic p12/p14 5 pack for $33/28 simp
me too
i don't get how they are so quiet
how is it not a more copied design
anything else i use as intake on my case's really restrictive grilles gets super loud, even if it's a normally quiet fan
I mean, noctua a12x25's are objectively better, but 5x the price
I put p14's on things that don't need the best of the best
Which is almost all of my stuff
arctic P's are pretty bad at static pressure, so you'd need a push/pull on anything thicker than a 30mm rad
Really? My p14's pull plenty of air through this 60mm alphacool
yeah in my experience they are great at static pressure too
Is the gap really the main factor there?
if they made it a 6 or 7 blade design, it would be much much better
i think the angle of the blade matters more
Not other characteristics of the fan blade shape/size/rpm?
true
there's a ton of wasted area on Ps
pretty sure blade angle matters more, assuming a constant motor power
more blades probably helps but you start losing airflow
i don't think the diagonal gaps matter a ton it's more about the gaps as viewed head on
But that produces a lower frequency noise at higher rpm/ same average sound pressure db
air is not going to escape out the way it's being forced in
if there's no blade forcing it in, how is it going to get forced in?
the gap between blades = 0 flow
i don't know how to better articulate what i'm thinking
i'd be able to try and show it better with physical examples
all i know is a p12 performs better than my corsair ml120 or noctua f12
5 large buckets vs 7 slightly smaller buckets
There's a massive 691 post ocn thread on this https://www.overclock.net/threads/arctic-p12-and-p120-p14-and-p140-pressure-optimized-fans-reviews-discussion-thread.1713146/

- 200 to 1800 RPM , 0dB mode at < 5% PWM
- 56.3CFM @ 1800RPM with 2.2mm H2O...
I read through a ton of it when these fans hit the market
My impression at the time (and still today) is that these are fantastic for the price
if more blade theory math'd out then why don't static pressure fans have like 20 blades
check out major hardware on youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUXW4gT27TOaDzKFyN-1tXQ
he's exactly what i'm thinking of
the many many blade fans don't perform great
they may even have better static pressure
but you only need a set amount for an application
as long as you have enough, any airflow lost to gain more pressure decreases performance
the arctic fans have enough and also still good airflow
they're great for the price, but they arent great performance wise vs more expensive fans
I mean, that's what I said originally
if you need max static pressure for a given area, you dont get a arctic p12
benchmarks i looked up before had the p series hanging in with the top groups in charts
pretty much only losing to higher rpm fans
and not by a landslide

Looks, good?
i would hardly say they "aren't great" compared to the best of the best
yeah, if you limit it to 1300rpm
but still
the a12x25's entire existence is about noise normalized performance and it's barely any better
@tall pelican matreyu just joined the borg, he's entering the rabbit hole of xoc servers lol
they also have pretty bad resonations are certain rpms, out of the 15 I got, 4 were annoying at 600 rpm
interesting
optimum has a bit of his video about it
i run mine at max rpm most of the time
This is true
of my 5 corsair MLs, none resonate
They have a flimsy frame, overtightening on some cases will distort the fan so much it'll scrape on the edges
i must say at lower rpm mine are so quiet in general i don't notice if i have any resonance
the frame itself is about as flexible as most other fans but the legs holding the motor are pretty flimsy
I run my pc silently with 13 capped at 600 rpm
i got an aio with 3 ml120 (exhaust) and 5 p12 for intakes
SilverStone AP120i-PRO is an upgraded version of AP123. The upgrade sees the AP120i-PRO equipped with dual ball bearing for a whopping 70,000 hours MTBF compared to the previous 25,000 hours.
The speed also increased to 2000 rpm which makes AP120i-PRO the fan with the highest center pressure and air volume of all the air channeling 120mm fans, ...
and i use 2 of these on my gpu
funnily enough they sucked (from a noise perspective) as intake fans
super loud when up against a case grille
but they have amazing airflow
I need help with something about the overclocking on the new 3070 cards
The card I'm currently waiting for is the MSi gaming x trio
The card is not overclocked by the manufacturer
Does the 3070 card i mentioned support manually overclocking
The boost clock for MSi is 1830 mhz
with stock clock of 1500
never heard of a gpu you cannot overclock
Factory overclocks are pushover
You can do the same exact overclock with a non-factory-overclocked card ezpz
Ok so that then means, buying a non-oc card
no
it means that the oc card and the non-oc card should be the same price, and if they are not, you should have no reason not to choose the cheaper of the two
unless you like the design of the more expensive card lol
So I didn't miss out on something by buying a non-oc card
no lol
ok
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232973?Item=N82E16820232973 just ordered this for my 5900x ๐ can't wait to get rid of my crap kit I'm using
think I could overclock an RX 570 and 4690K on a 450w PSU?
sure
Ugh everywhere is out of titanium 1200w psus, local microcenter has a 1600w but I really want that 1200w.
im 1 yr old
ok
Depends how good of a 450w psu it is
I had an i3 3220 and a gtx 680 on an evga 80+ bronze 450w before
Thing would shut down if I overclocked the gpu at all
I would just try it and see
Maybe you could at least overclock just the cpu, or just the gpu
what are you building that requires that? 2x3090?
I have an 850w and using a wall multimeter my 5900x 3090 build with no oc is pulling ~750w.
The PSU is rated to provide 850 watts. It's pulling more from the wall because of inefficiencies. It's probably providing closer to 700 watts
maybe even less
Exactly which is why I need a bigger psu
Need headroom and to not be hitting close to the efficiency max
If you are concerned about efficiency you can probably stand to upgrade but it's probably not an emergency and you can afford to wait.
Iโm in no rush this machine is great but when the Heatkiller V block comes out in Jan there will be a need for an oc and more power lol.
What partner card are you using?
yeah that thing has a 500 watt power limit
Waited in line for 5hrs in 20 degree weather to get it.
i doubt you will net much performance without going subzero tho
The water block is more to keep it cool. It quickly hits 78 gaming.
But a little oc will be nice too
I regret not buying one from a certain website with a queue system. The price shock of looking at it in my cart after buying an engagement ring spooked me out of it and now im regretting it with the current situation looking bleak till January.
How's the 5900x? What ram are you running? Timings? Clock speed on the IF?
I had a backup 64gb Corsair 3600 cl18-19-19-39 kit that Iโm using right now. Check this out on @Newegg: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4000 (PC4 32000) Desktop Memory Model F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232973?Item=N82E16820232973&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-20-232-973-_-11302020 will be here Thursday.
Current kit does not oc at all but I had it laying around.
Using a kraken x73 on it until I can get a Heatkiller block for it. Have seen 4.951 on all cores but need to setup a loop with a fan controller instead of using the b550 tomahawks bios to control fans itโs a pain.
these are a good deal
they were on sale even more for $105 the other day so i grabbed a second set
they're b die
they're okay, nothing great though

at stock not really special
i got them just to run at 4000mhz or lower for ryzen and tighten all the timings
it seems like they tighten up pretty good
i figured a set that already has tight timings, probably doesn't have as much room to tweak
so the performance might end up being a wash anyway. not worth paying double
if you want xmp set and forget, then the better kit might be worth it
Install MSI after burner. We can walk you through it from there
i have it installed
How do i increase the voltage for my ram in my bios
so my pc is stable to run at the mhz i want it to run at

Is a dark pro rock 4 overkill for an overclocked 9600K (4ghz)
nah
nothing is overkill for overclocking
Anybody know what I can do to fix this error? It happens everytime I hit windows or alt tab out of COD Cold War

rip
when a 60 dollar game is broken for nearly a month
to answer your question, no, there's nothing you can do, thats just this broken ass game
I'm new here and hoping for some help. I just got my new pc built yesterday and everything was running great. Today I went into the bios to overclock my RAM. I changes my settings to DOCP, hot save and reset, and now its not working. Everything runs, all my lights are on, but nothing is coming up on my screen and I have an orange light on my mobo. For reference I have a ryzen 5600xt, asus b550 strix mobo, and corsair vengeance 32g RAM.
reset cmos
Still nothing. Went as far as removing the gpu to take out the battery like the manual suggests
Would it be possible to reset the BIOS?
@vernal bloom my B550-F strix motherboard requires shorting 2 pins with a metal screw driver while the system is off with the power unplugged. To reset the bios.
It's in the manual on how to do it. If you have that motherboard read that. What ram speed is the docp profile?
@vernal bloom reset cmos is resetting bios.
Ryzen has trouble with 4000
@next quartz they do if you have it on 1:1, uncoupled, it should so fine
Then you get a latency penalty. You're best off just running 3600 or 3800. Or whatever timings work best for minimal latency
2000(cl)/clockspeed=the latency in nano seconds
Ryzen loves low latency
oh ive heard ryzen loves high speed
It loves both
Anything above 3200 tho is generally good
Don't like run 2666 to get really low latency
But 3200 cl14 was faster for me than 3600 cl16
id go with a 3600 speed though cuz its only like 10 more bucks and way better
Always benchmark to verify though
He went into the bios, enabled XMP, restarted the computer, and nothing is showing on the screen, with the boards q-led showing the error as DRAM
I bought a 3600 kit but tuned it out. Slowest was 3800 cl18 but it had quite a bit of memory bandwidth but I had lower frame rates in games. 3600 cl16 was kinda middle ground and I was able to really tighten timings down at 3200 cl14 it wouldn't tighten past cl16 at 3600.
Yep
makes sense
I could run 1:1 at 3800 but my frame rates were 5-6% lower surprisingly
I mean it's what, 7.5ns first word write against 8.89ns iirc..?
And I'm using an rtx 2080 so I didn't think that would matter that significantly
i remember jayztwocents mentioned a way to calculate how fast it actually is involving the speed and CAS latency but i forgot how
wait isnt the quality of it in the end determined by first world latency
2000(cl)/clockspeed=the latency in nano seconds
oh i see
So I wouldn't really call first word read as the end all latency
@dull ginkgo read this post by alatron https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/364651-dram-first-word-latency
Well you can do the Calc on all the timings
Yea
14-14-14-38 is what I'm running
Subtimings matter
Yeah
ok
You can figure out any delay using that Calc
@proven canopy tbh I thought first word read was the "cas latency" and there was another term for subtimings all calculated together
If you use the appropriate timing you can find the right latency but yeah
is 3600 cl16 good at 75 bucks
But that's fair, guess I need another term for "cas latency"
and is it good for ryzen gaming
I mean it seems if you can get a kit that's cl14 3200 that's great or something that tightens down
Look for ram with Samsung b die
Read the link I posted, great explanation of lots of those terms
Yea, @proven canopy I'm commenting on the end bit about a replacement term for first word read
bruh all parts are so expensive now ๐
Meh
Look at dram calculator for ryzen it's a great starting point for tuning
Just don't trust the trfc timing
It's lies
At least for me it always spits out a crazy low number
@vernal bloom by the way, you can use Bios flashback on B550-f, just in case the bios actually got borked, and not just wacky settings.
That too
Meh, tRFC works just fine for me on dram calc
From my understanding trfc should always result in a 300 ns delay
And it was giving me numbers that were half so I just calculated it out myself
2000x/clockspeed=300
Don't quite remember what I had, but it worked just fine :p
My stock numbers were 4 times higher than what it recommended but memory training numbers are way conservative. Ended up with something about half of what the auto setting was using.
Afaik tRFC is tied to other timings, not freq, but eh, haven't looked.
It gets unstable if you go below 300ns from what I read
350ns for non Samsung b side.
Eh, I won't ping forky, but I'd think forky would've gone quite a bit below that when he was doing his micron rev e OC at least.
Depends on voltage
1.6v on b-die, 280 trfc easy
320-360 easily on 1.5v, probably lower on a good kit
That's so much voltage
What'd you get when you were doing that OC session with the micron rev e?
1.5v is usually safe for daily on b-die, just keep the ram cool for stability, under 40c is ideal, >50c it'll likely error
I know people who daily 1.6v on either b-die and micron rev-e
The guy who wrote that pcpp post dailies rev.e on 1.6v
3000 cl15 xmp oc'd to 3800 14 19 19 36 520 32k
It was 4 sticks of dual rank rev.e
What voltage did you do that at
1.6v vdimm
By the way, didn't you say rev b was better than rev e on some dual rank Crucial kits?
revb 16gbit with an SPD limit of 8GB / stick is what's on those 5100 mhz crucial kits
fitz said that
Ah alright
that y-cruncher stage was honestly my first go with rev.e and/or dual rank OC
Didn't you beat the b die sub in the end?
Fair, and also, how does micron dies like temp?
You can put a hair dryer on rev.e and it don't care
Since b die likes what, 20-30c iirc?
There's a buildzoid video on it
something like that
Alright, time for more buildzoid :D
Gotta dig deeper into VRMs first tho, barely understand it atm
not bad for a junk ram kit, can't wait for my bdie kit
Thats pretty sick
Hey guys ๐, does anyone know what I can do to improve this score? I was told my core clock on my GPU was bad and to overclock it more, even though it's already running at 2160MHz on air... https://www.3dmark.com/spy/15877807
Is this a humblebrag? 2160 on air for tse is great
Definitely not trying to. And imI was thinking it is good so that's why I was confused.
ya, 2160 at that average gpu temp is pretty good
Alright, thanks :)
If you like benchmarking, check out https://hwbot.org/
So question what is the best possible overclock for a Geforce GTX 1650? running or powered by an intel i5-9400f cpu at 2.90 ghz
Prob this
https://hwbot.org/submission/4398906_shaggysvk_3dmark___time_spy_geforce_gtx_1650_(gddr5)_4511_marks
Surprised there's like no xoc, @proven canopy do you have any GPU ln2 pots? Do you ever go around doing subs with ln2 on lower end cards?
Yes, but you have to epower/zombie mod cards like that, the stock vrm and lack of xoc vbios won't work well on ln2
#overclocking message
i did a cinnabench test run not to long ago and my single core score was a 1055 and multicore was a 5786 also in my msi dragon center when i go into game mode my ghz shoots up to 4.0ghz and temps sky rocket like 100c to 130c for the cpu i believe is what it shows me
why is this happening also its a msi trident 3, is it possible that the thermal paste and such has expired? or just gone bad with time? then again the only intake is the gpu vent port for air intake
Check the paste
Whoa okay
@proven canopy think this is better?
"better" is up to you, is this for a hwbot score? or just your personal gaming performance? or just hobby overclocking?
up to you
38c gpu temp haha, did you open a window?
yep :)
That's a legit strategy, just be mindful of condensation
lol
@restive cargo Post your air conditioner vent pic lol
Yeah I was making sure there wasn't gonna be any condensation
Biggest risk is when the harware is cold, and warm/humid air hits it
Cold air on warm or cold hardware is 0 risk
really, if you like competitive overclocking, check out hwbot
Maybe one day, I'm just trying it out lol
don't have to be competitive to do hwbot
Yeah should join the team itโs a fun thing to do in your free time
long tube
Is there really e ouch air pressure to move the ac through that?
If I were bryce, I'd put a 120mm 100+ cfm fan inline with the hose, I did the same with the other end out the window once
@flint quiver
House central AC normally has a 1/2 or 1 HP motor that runs a squirrel cage fan that blows the air through the ducks (AKA Tubes) in the attic.
The overall diameter of the attic ducks is a lot bigger than the diameter hole on my tubes I use so it creates strong pressure since the tube is shrinking the air gets forced through.
I tape the other side of the vent off just to make sure every bit of cold goodness gets forced in my tubes.
I heard if you just simply blow on the heatsink youll get +560ghz on cpu

14-14-14-34
it overclocks fine at
4000mhz 1.45v
18-18-18-36
what else should I try ?
CPU is 7700k
@still mural
Drop trfc to 360
@proven canopy I tried to set command rate @ 1T but it doesn't post
trfc 360 is running prime95 for a couple minutes now, seems to work
Why are you running a cpu stress test, to check ram stability?
prime95 works ram a bunch I think
3 votes and 8 comments so far on Reddit
||mem tests exist||
memtest kinda takes forever tho, idk
I'll play games on these settings and if it never crashes I'll assume it's fine
prime95 for a couple hours is fine by me
if it passes that, i can play minecraft safely
๐คฆ
it's a joke lol
So 2 or 3 independent cables for 3080/90 ftw3 ultra
I think occt is the crowd favorite for memory testing
alright running an hour of occt
seems to work !
hi, i just finished my first build earlier today (ryzen 3700x / asus rog strix b550f wifi / bad gpu card while waiting for 3070) and i managed to get it to post and boot, but when enabling the docp profile for ram (g skill ripjaws 3600mhz 2x8gb ddr4) my pc tends to crash after a while and the dram light stays on, and gets stuck unless i do a hard reboot. i ran the windows memory diagnostic and everything was fine there. the mobo's docp puts the dram voltage to 1.35v and 3600mhz, could it be the default settings are just unstable?
Hmm expected a little better than this.... https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/54241010?
https://www.3dmark.com/compare/spy/15944338/spy/12746246 compared to my old 2080s
I need to run a few more but not impressed on my workstation ๐ฆ
Switched to oc bios
Yeah....

not worth it for my workstation at all
New to tweaking Ram timings. I went from 3800mhz 18-19-19-38 to 3800mhz 16-16-16-36 and my score in heaven benchmark went down. Any idea why?
Run to run varience
I ran it multiple time and itโs consistently better with higher timings.
Then ecc
is 3800 16-16-16 stable?
Whatโs the best way to check?
Itโs Corsair vengeance rgb pro 3600 CL18 Samsung B die if that tells you anything.
do occt mem test
Is 3800 cl16 not typical?
3800 18-19-19 is just a very loose bin, and thaiphoon will read bdie for any samsung 8gbit ram
if its corsair, you have to check the vers number on the sticks, 4.31 is bdie and 4.32 is cdie (cdie will have trouble doing 3800 16-16-16)
So I bought crappy memory?
compared to the rabbit hole that is memory, probably
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Xz_rQgNFQF3Dm0yHJBzldVkal5jmfI9Ug9tnpjky5Bc/edit#gid=0 here's a list of decent bdie, you can see where 3800 18-19-19 would land you

Hey guys!
I'm new to this server. I had some questions and needed some suggestions
I'm currently running a Z370 XP SLI and I thought of upgrading my processor. I got the 9900k for 320 which was a steal so I couldn't resist the offer. The problem is that my motherboard's VRMs are a little weak. I'm planning on running my processor at stock and not overclock at all. Will I be able to run the 9900k on my board and perhaps even undervolt it a bit to give the mobo some ease or do I definitely need to get a better Z390 motherboard for it?
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/54299892? increasing power slider all the way didn't increase my score on my new build by much
Looks like it's temp limited
Yeah trying to get more airflow in this case haha.
Just got an extra case fan mounted and blowing right into it lol
https://hwbot.org/submission/4620379_farpetrad_3dmark___time_spy_geforce_rtx_3090_18920_marks?recalculate=true well it did go up :p
Think I am power limited with an 850w psu
I think it'd be smart to upgrade the psu, but that won't affect score in that way
It'd just trip ocp and shut off
I've been looking for a 1200w platinum/titanium thats not price gouged
and not sold by a shifty merchant lol
||newegg had a 1000w plat from super flower on sale last week||
Never heard of them, would prefer someone I know and trust as well lol, ever use an asus psu? I assume they are seasonics under the fancy rgb
Thanks lol
That asus is in stock and if its a seasonic internally I trust that plenty lol
Its going to be under a shroud so its kind of pointless lol
Aris is a top tier psu reviewer https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/asus-rog-thor-1200w-psu,5984.html
The oled screen is a really nice touch imo, a friend picked up the 850 for 10900k/2070s and it's been great
Cool its been ordered, my case has a shroud so unless I break out the dremmel.....
I just know the 850w isn't going to cut it for pump + fans when my water blocks arrive and real loop gets built.
I could put it into the TR build, that shroud is removable, but man undoing all those cables.....
I recently had to swap out the seasonic prime ultra 850w in my daily 3700x/3090(zotac) because it'd trip something and shut off nearly as soon as I opened folding at home lol
0 issues with an 850 T2 now, but I suspect the seasonic is faulty
I'd expect the pump to use ~30 watts max, and the fans 2 watts a piece
The main thing is the transient power draw spikes form that 3090 evga
Hmm glad it didn't just explode, had a psu do that years ago, just all of a sudden a loud pop/bang and pc off and smoke. Wait take it out and the magnet was cracked in half
Especially if you flash the 500w bios and/or waterblock it
Well I would love https://optimuspc.com/products/absolute-gpu-block-ftw3-3080-3090 but I know I'm going to have to settle for the Heatkiller V when they come out next month
Optimus Absolute GPU Block designed for the EVGA FTW3 3080/3090 The Absolute block is our all-out performance design, created to achieve maximum cooling on all areas of the new NVIDIA RTX 3080 and 3090 FTW3 cards from EVGA. The FTW3 GPUs pull huge amounts of power and require top cooling on all areas -- die, VRAM, VRM
Everyone I know who has an optimus product absolutely loves it
That'd be my choice of watercooling hardware for a no-compromises build
I have their TR block its amazing, getting it was the problem lol
They had my $ for so long before it finally came....
Their reservoir with breaker is a dud, corroded 2 times and gave up and took it out of my system. They blamed other components but everything else is fine....
They said it must be your Ni block breaking down, well I took it out yesterday to put a 3080 in and no issues but my finger print
Other then my finger print smudge that looks pretty much brand spanking new to me
Distilled with mayhems inhibitor+ and biocide+. Always ph tested to as close to 7 as possible with an electronic ph tester for a fish tank and its never that far from 7 even after months of use. It was their junk Ni plating on their parts.
My cpu block from them is copper so if I can get a FTW3 block it will have to be 100% copper, I won't trust their Ni again
Let me find the photos
CPU block is also 100% fine
Somehow though its my video block thats doing it they tell me lol
Then they say something in my radiators
Ya, can't really go wrong with bare copper if everything else in the loop is nickel/brass/copper
Yeah standard ek radiators before now hwlabz
nice
hey guys
does anyone know how to fix this?
also, how do i know if my pc is overclocked somehow?
you would know because overclocking is usually done by the consumer.....
Oh I got banned for my overclock joke. Well Iโll keep things rated g then
So I watching this video comparing cpus at 5ghz and I think this guy doesnโt know how to overclock or bad silicon. But how does a core i7 10700k need that many volts. My core i7 10700k only needs 1.345 volts with c states and speed shift off with a offset 0. This guy must be really bad at overclocking or something.
prob bad bin
Just took apart an old pc
owo
need to find hdmi to dvi connectors as I have no dvi cables or monitors with dvi support lol
so apparently if you go over 1.65v on an asrock b450 hwinfo has no clue whats going on and reports vcore of -0.006v
Once you hit a stable clock and test/benchmark start reducing voltage until it crashes and find the minimum needed for it to stay stable.
@manic helm So you know from experience eh?
:P
Can yall suggest some good overclocks for an rx570?
Its a gigabyte gaming revision 2 and a very good sample in terms of silicon quality
Grats on that world record Forks. How many attempts did it take before you broke it?
hey guys
um
im a noob
i want to overclock my gt 710
lmao
but like i speeded the slider on afterburner once and my pc crashed
so is there like a more easy way to do it
meaing like
not crash way to do it
Haha I was benching with another hwbot guy, but ~10 or so, each run takes 14 mins on that chip lol
is "forks" carved into the pot or just carved into the condensation?
condensation
its there
wait, is that the GPU?
it looked like all the other pcie slots were empty, with no risers
yes, a gt 610
You going to get sponsored soon?
Lol, doubt that, just having fun participating in country cup
Haha I had lots of help from yosarian.
$1-$2 / litre
Msi afterburner should have an oc scanner that will run a test idk if it works on old cards.
It sometimes doesn't work on new cards
I did the tried and true bump up afterburner, apply, run benchmark, repeat until it crashes, back off a bit and run benchmark 2-3 more times to make sure, call it a day
wdym
Not worth oc'ing a gt710
really?
i saw videos that said u get better fps
like 10 more fps
i mean 20-30 fps is pretty significant

by good cooling wdym
i have 5 fans
the card itself is passive cooled
i got 2 intake and 3 exhause
for the case
I overclocked my intel pentium 4 to 14.2 ghz
๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ
is trying to oc a 3070 tuf oc worth it even though itโs factory overclocked?
idk
you might be able to pull more out of it
Can anyone help me, I have a Ryzen 7 2700x and a Asus b450 f and when I try to run my 3200mhz ram at 2933MHZ my games just crash after about 15 min.
Memtest86 to see if it's ram problem
In CMD?
You should, especially on zen2
hm yes I should
oh, that's what occt stands for
Yo i am trying to flash a bios on an rx 5700xt and when ever i try to run atiflash i get this error and yes i run it as admin and i am on windows 10 pro
why would you bios flash on a 5700xt? Just morepowertool it
This guy 5700xt's ^
Mpt lets you go up to 1.35v (drivers dont like more than that, and I wouldn't daily more than 1.25), you can run a 10kw power limit and can set sliders to 9999mhz
0 chance of bricking your card, and incredibly easy to revert back to stock limits
1070 ๐ณ
@jade heron my 3080 oc got a small boost by overclocking it but with the 30x0 series people are saying the way to go is to undervolt by a bit then overclock.
Apparently the current cards have power limits that when you get under heavy load they tune down a bit, so overclocking has reduced effect beyond a few percent.
But undervolting, and overclocking back to normal, avoids those performance limits to keep getting boost while normally drawing less power
Semi-new to pc stuff, one question, how does one overclock? Iโve heard of it but I wanna know how it works before I get all the parts I need
@ me later pls, I gotta get to school
Sorry whoever I just pinged >.<
The thing is I never built a pc before and I donโt know what undervoltong is, but thanks anyway. Iโll try to do some research and stuff
Can someone give me oc and voltage settings for my 3400g. I want to overclock both the cpu and the igpu
each chip will be different. There isnt really a set guide that will work for every single chip.
Basically you just slowly up the mhz/clock speed until the system is no longer stable. For a GPU you'd use something like MSI Afterburner, for CPU you would do it in the BIOS
You can also raise voltage in order to get higher clock speeds but that has a higher chance of harming components
my bad thanks
Just OC'd my old 1070 and squeezed an extra 500 score out of it in Time Spy
Can't wait to get my hands on the 3080 in a few months
From 6071 to 6577
I recently OC'd my 3060 ti and would like to see if I can OC my ram. I also have a Ryzen 5 3600XT, but its currently using the stock cooler so idk how much of an OC i could get. Anyone know of a good ram OC guide I could follow? I have 32gb of DDR4-3200 T-Force Vulcan CL16 18 18 38 RAM.
are you using xmp profiles for your RAM?
I guess from what Ive seen RAM overclocking usually isnt worth the frustration if your speeds are already high
yeah, I use xmp. Whats the best for gaming? Higher clock speeds or tighter timings?
tighter timing can improve FPS but its not really worth the headache to find a stable setting for negligible improvements
you already have decent RAM speeds
just use the xmp profile
unless you are going for balls to the wall overclocking
https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/master/DDR4 OC Guide.md for memory overclocking
kk gracias
do you think its possible to overclock my i7 8700k to 4.8 or maybe even 5.0 with a noctua nh-d15?
that seems a little much but I dont know a whole lot about Intel OCing
8700k is very limited by it's thermal paste. Probably the best chip to delid.
That said, on a d15, you might net only 2-300 mhz.
right now my cores sit at average 38c idling and usually 50c to 60c in game so youre probably right
im gonna try to push it to at most 4.2 if i get lucky
do you think if i got water cooling or something better i could go higher?
It could, a high end watercooling setup e.g. d5 pump, 360mm rad or better, heatkiller/optimus block etc definitely will
This is kinda the line between practical and hobby oc, especially when it comes to custom loops
i do enjoy oc just for the hell of it but i also use it for better performance for gaming
ive gotten pretty okay at overclocking gpu's and i have overclocked my old cpu a while back but its been a while and im still new to it
I plan on buying an i9 10900k soon and building a whole new pc
what do you think i should go with to get the most of that cpu when i do build my new pc
Depends on your budget, goals, use case
hi
lets say money isnt an issue which is untrue but financing is always an option
so what do you suggest
the case i wanted to use was this
Its a Rog Strix Helios
and my goal is to just get the cpu to as high as possible but still stable to game
Actually i lied the tower is a mid tower and im looking for a full tower
@hallow venture for a no-compromises case I like the phanteks p600 and the lian li 011
how do you overclock?
buy a watch, put it under your computer, and so it becomes "over clock"ed
if you want a serious answer you will have to be more specific
oooh, I like that gif. Can I steal that?
how do i overclock cpu pls ping me
LN2 FTW! -130c temps and godlike performance increases!
all while likely blowing the breaker LUL

how cool would it be to have a fully enclosed automatic LN2 dispenser for your GPU and CPU!?
expensive yes
but also awesome
The amount of LN2 youd chew through would make operating it outrageously expensive
If I get a new build and ditch my 3900X (which I doubt I will for 4-5 years), I'm slapping a thermosiphon on the cpu
If you're curious, running mine at 4.2 @ 1.2625v on an NHD15
Im still running a 5820k on water cooling. 4.6 at 1.3
nice
dont want to go above that
thats lga2011
yes
Im considering AMD as of right now
5000 looks nice and 3000 had disappointing OC results but...I got a gold chip so :P
I was reading the IPC is better with the newer ryzens
it is
all at lower watts too
and if I do upgrade next year, I'll likely just get a 5900x and sell my 3900x binned cuz gold chips go for good prices
omg
i would personally
Im waiting then
will the AM5 be compatible with AM4?
or will it be completely new socket?
or do I not know what you are talking about lol
new socket ofc
I figured but always good to ask ๐
I looked up thermosiphon and there is no chance at all for dry out? like at all?
ohhhhhhhh this stuff is awesome
low boiling point liquid so if anything broke it would probably just evaporate
have you seen the graphene heatsinks they are working on?
oh i was referring to icegiant
IceGiant has the most advanced CPU cooling solution for PCs. Our ProSiphon Elite technology boasts superior performance & reliability.
LTT reviewed it and it has a 10 year warranty. Server grade as well
only $170, which for the best cooling solution on the market, is pretty good (excluding custom loops and chilled loops but those are more expensive and messier). Nothing else tops it
I always say this. Custom loops are sexy but messy. I hate them due to how messy they are
plus maintaining them is ass
air coolers last as long as the fans last. even then, fans are replaceable lmao
Yea I was watching an interview with one of the engineers for icegiant. They use a refrigerant with a low boiling point in the chambers of that cooler.
howdy yall, can anybody help me figure out why my ram sticks are working at 70% according to userbenchmark?
I undervolted my i7 to 1.29v at 5ghz and itโs stable
Anything below 1.29 = a blue blue
idk how to oc ๐ฆ
There's a ton of guides for every brand, but there's no real need to, and you may risk shortening things life's if you're too aggressive
is 4.5 ghz on all cores with the 5600x too mean? I want it to last but to get the most value as possible.
im just not going to then
Locking 4.5 on a 5600x is most likely a waste compared to pbo and letting it boost
i locked my i5-8250u at 3.4 ghz
i used "quickcpu" and it somehow worked for my laptop
please AMD let us have that sweet 5.0ghz
a good amount of zen3 can do 5.0
my 3900xt can cpu validate 4.9 easily, probably 4.95 is I tried, and I've seen it boost to 4.85 effective
Actully it only shortens the lifespan if u donโt have a good cooler. Overclocking is getting a free performance boost. And once youโve done an overclock u next undervolt and itโs 10 times better than stock
This mostly applies to intels k cpus tho
U can do some with zen 2 ryzen but thereโs more overclocking with zen 3
Whatโs the voltage?
It depends on your cooler. Has long as it get rids of the heat enough it should last
The ideal temps for idle is 30c to 40c
Idk how much heat before a ryzen chip thermal throttles but trie to keep it below 90c
1.5v for valid, 4.85 was stock boosting
Seems good
Yea itโs just like I donโt like playing around with volts over 1.4. Itโs not dangerous but it just consumes a lot of power
||zen2/3 use 1.5v at stock||
I can tell
My i7 at stock used 1.1 v
Lmao
is it possible to get a 5800x to 5 ghz and still be stable
.
yes?
Is it normal that my DDR4-3200 RAM reports 1066MHz in CPU-Z?
I don't know much about RAM OC-ing but I did hear that RAM will default to that frequency unless you OC it?
I'm running an i7-7700 on a MSI B250 PC MATE mobo.
The dram chips run at 1066 for DDR4-2133
@obsidian delta and for DDR3-1600, they would run at 800MHz
Ahh, because DDR
Mhm
So for me it should run at 3200MHz / 2?
Which is not the case for me according to CPU-Z
Yup, if your ram is DDR4-3200
You can check on the module sticker for its actual spec
Since it's set at 2133, you will have to set it in the bios
Which I think you just need to enable XMP for access to 3200?
XMP looks enabled to me
Then DRAM frequency I think
Do I need to change these? I don't see a 3200MHz option. Maybe I should set it to 3200/2?
I set it to 1600 (3200/2), testing now...
Ok, that should probably be it
Nothing appears to have changed in CPU-Z
haha same here
Been using this PC for years and didn't know my RAM was running under spec
CPU-Z now
It's the same as before pretty much.
I googled the name of that and the first result is someone on reddit saying it fried their RAM... ๐
should I use asus tweak2 or Msi afterburner to oc an asus 3070 tuf
Iโm guessing itโs the asus but all the oc tutorials I watched show msi afterburner
Every time I overclock I lose track of time
is that a problem
Sounds like an HPET issue
Updated BIOS and broke a record for myself. 7480
done per ccx yet?
Nah
Never used Aida before so not sure what I should be looking at here, memory and fclk is not 1:1 just xmp enabled.
I put it in sync at the highest it will post 3733 and changed the primary timings to 14-14-14-34
jealous negl
@obsidian delta the timings table simply shows the stock JEDEC timings defined for DDR4 chips at certain frequencies. If you have XMP enabled, that's the speed and timings that the chip is running at. The other timings simply show what the RAM would run at while stock without XMP
So what speed am I running at?
idk, that page you are looking at only shows fixed information about your RAM
go to the memory tab instead
can I not embed images?
I can't, hold on
i.imgur.com/HBUBAFt . png
take the spaces around the dots
that shows the information about the memory I have in slot 2
it shows a slower speed, XMP profile, and standard JEDEC timings
peck
that's actually really bad
I can tell haha
tightened up the secondaries
3733 at 14-14-14-34 is hella impressive
what voltage are you pushing through your RAM?
its a 4000 15-16-16-36 kit @1.5v xmp, I just lowered the timings since it won't boot 1:1 above 3733
Switching to a dark hero viii board so will see if it can do better, never been a fan of msi boards.
will see, the b550 tomahawk is not friendly with over clocking, have to jump the stupid thing when it fails to clear cmos so haven't really tried too much
can auto oc on ryzen master kill my cpu
[8:43 PM]
because i dont wanna mess with manual and idk if auto will do anything bad to my cpu or not because when it comes to overclocking im stupid
hello
anyone
No it wonโt damage your cpu.
ok thanks
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/54827536?# ๐ 0 oc just power limit raised to max

well I was calling you lucky
Lol again another score from camping at microcenter
Is silicon lottery good at deliding cpus ?
I would say they're the best commercial source of delidded CPUs
Are there any good 120mm aios I could use to overclock an i5 9600k, or is buying a 120mm for ocing just a waste of time and money? With my current cooler I hit 90 degrees at 4.6 all core. My pc is a sleeper (dell dimension 4100) so there would be a lot more effort required to try and slap in a 240mm aio, while a 120mm I could just mount on my diy front fan hole.
Guys i have a 10600kf and msi gaming edge wifi and rtx 3080. Should i overclock the cpu? I have been playing cyberpunk, the temps in my lian li case are around 70-80 degrees for my gpu while playing for 10 hours. Can i squeeze more performance oit of the 10600kf or just leave it as is. Temps for cpu is around 60-70 i think, i use artic 240 aio.
120mm aio is a waste of money in 99.99% of situations
Just get a beefy air cooler
I would but I don't think I have room
How much room
any helpers?
Oooh nice
Whats the full build look like
Just curious
And id measure distance and try to find a shorter cooler
I love that
It's only my first build so it's not perfect. I wanted to challenge myself with the sleeper aspect
After building a few more computers I'm not exactly a fan of thermal take either
But it does the job
Bombs
All of them
It does the job till it doesnt
Then itll take your parts with it
Psus are like hdds
They work till they dont
And when they dont
It hurts
Yeah Ik. It's pretty new though so it shouldn't have any issues for a few years. I plan on replacing it within 5 years
I only built it over the summer
Best part is I didn't even buy that RTX card. I ordered a 1660 super from Newegg and they sent me that

gigabyte z390 ud
like I said
And
its not perfect
