Didn't know they were cheap?

dull ginkgo
#

Like dark pros would be what you get for OCing

dark ferry
#

I got them for $70 the price on the box is $140+.

dull ginkgo
#

3200c14

tall pelican
#

Or crucials

dull ginkgo
#

Ballistix are really good for 'cheap' OCing

#

Generally it's just B die or nothing for OCing, but rev E is really good too.

dark ferry
#

That's what I meant by I didn't know if they were "cheap" in terms of quality.

#

Black Friday price plus some haggling.

tall pelican
#

Reve or revb are good

dull ginkgo
#

revb?

tall pelican
#

The 5100c19 kits are revb

dull ginkgo
#

huh

tall pelican
#

And rng 16gb sticks

dull ginkgo
#

RNG isn't great

tall pelican
#

Its 50/50 dr reve or sr revb from crucial with 16gb sticks

#

32 gb sticks are dr revb

dull ginkgo
#

Oh interesting

#

I just knew 16gb modules were high chance rev e

tall pelican
#

Reve is an 8gbit ic, revb is 16gbit, and b seems to clock higher than e

dull ginkgo
#

huh

finite steppe
#

has anyone experienced gpu die damage from liquid metal

#

i've seen pictures of weird stuff left behind after extended use but most people say it is fine

tall pelican
#

there's leftover tin that gets dissolved when you reapply lm

finite steppe
#

ok

finite steppe
#

how good of a deal is $100 for an evga epower v

finite steppe
#

also would something like this be better for attaching epower than wire or copper sheet?

#

i am thinking silver would minimize any potential voltage drop

#

and what gauge should i be looking at for copper or silver

cold jolt
#

lonk

finite steppe
#

yeah it's quite a link

#

sorry

cold jolt
#

you can trim everything after the "?"

#

pro gamer move

finite steppe
#

does that work for all links?

cold jolt
#

any link that you are trying to share, yep

finite steppe
#

alright thanks

cold jolt
#

things like SaaS applications, like office online, no

finite steppe
#

installing an epower card, can i run into issues using too thick gauge wire or copper sheet?

#

i'm looking at some .062" or about 1.5mm sheet i found

#

around 16 gauge

#

seems fairly thick while still easy to bend hopefully

proven canopy
#

No, but you can do some rough math to see if the current density is anything to worry about

finite steppe
#

since i don't know what wattage i'm going to be pulling with my card

#

mostly because i don't know what i can cool

#

how would i do math to see what the max that metal could handle is?

#

so i can just get something overkill

proven canopy
#

I think the epower maxes out at 600 watts

#

So figure 600 / 1.2 volts = 500 amps, calculate the cross sectional area of the copper conductor

finite steppe
#

is 500 amps right

#

that sounds extreme

proven canopy
#

That's normal for the vrm output

#

Remember the vrm output is only at 1 to 1.5 volts or so

finite steppe
#

alright so say my piece i cut is 90mm wide

#

the stuff i found is 1.5mm thick

#

cross section is 135mm squared

#

i'm looking online at what gauge wire you need for 500a, but i'm finding mostly industrial building stuff so it's at 120v or 240v which is way higher wattage

#

the recommended gauge for that stuff is 750mcm which is a cross section of 380mm squared, that's way overkill

proven canopy
#

Remember it only has to travel a centimeter or so

finite steppe
#

no pictures i see of epower cards have 4.2mm copper

proven canopy
#

Through the copper busbar or thick wire

finite steppe
#

do you think i'd be fine with 1.5mm then

#

and probably not pulling 600w

proven canopy
#

probably

#

Lol ya, good luck pushing more than ~300 watts sustained on air

finite steppe
#

yeah that pic looks even thinner than 1.5mm

#

i'll make it work

#

there's big cpu coolers and i got my backplate too

proven canopy
#

Maybe with -20C ambient + a delta fan

finite steppe
#

if i do epower i don't have to worry about gpuboost throttling though right?

#

so i could run a higher temp than the 53c i get now

#

or would higher clocks not be stable at higher temp even without driver throttling

#

for the record i am not on a stock titan cooler

proven canopy
#

That's not related, and would make it temp throttle even harder

finite steppe
#

so there's no way to stop temp throttling?

#

actually

#

just thought of another thing

#

gpuboost controls power limit, voltage, and temp throttles

tall pelican
#

Put it on water, no more temp throttling

finite steppe
#

if i at least didn't have voltage or power limits, would i be able to push a higher clock even with temp throttling?

tall pelican
#

Doubt it

#

If you remove power and voltage limits, it'll dump more heat into it

finite steppe
#

gpu boost knocks me down like 15mhz every few degrees

#

but i can probably gain more clock than that from power limit+voltage anyways

#

i'm not expecting to be at a super high temp at a safe-ish voltage

#

i'm not going for a record i'm planning to daily this setup

#

i'm already planning to go from a raijintek morpheus ii to a big cpu cooler like a noctua nh-d15 or bigger and some beefy fans

#

i really should be able to keep it under 70c

#

hopefully well under

tall pelican
#

why wouold you even epower a daily gpu?

#

you epower when the stock vrm is in sufficient for the core

#

aka when several phases have blown up and its down 20-30% of the stock phases

finite steppe
#

just to try it

#

it's vastly overkill i know

#

i got the gpu for a really good deal and i just found an epower for a really good deal

tall pelican
#

then just use the gpu and sell the epower

proven canopy
#

Even if you pick up a $20 cpu/gpu block on amazon, those things work surprisingly well

#

Kept my 560 ti <10c core to fluid temp at (admittingly) light load, ~150 watts

#

@finite steppe If you just want to play around with epowering something, pick up a 1030, that's what I'm doing for practice

finite steppe
#

are there any waterblocks that cover the gpu and memory but not vrms?

proven canopy
#

Would be too hard to make something like that universal

#

Just use thermal tape + IC heatsinks off amazon

finite steppe
#

lol what about this

proven canopy
#

That's pretty /r/atbge

finite steppe
#

might actually try it

#

do you know any good universal gpu blocks with top mount fittings?

#

this actually seems pretty decent

#

but there has to be a good brand name one

proven canopy
finite steppe
#

i need one with inlet/outlet in the center like the one i posted

#

my brain just called that top mount idk if that's correct or not

#

don't want it to block any of the memory modules

#

would an intel cpu block fit a gpu?

proven canopy
#

Just put thermal pads over them

visual bolt
#

Hereโ€™s how u oc, turn on xmp :) KEKW KEKW KEKW

#

Jk jk, but itโ€™s good for ram if u donโ€™t know how

tall pelican
#

I havent actually ran xmp on my current stuff ROFLEgg

cold jolt
finite steppe
#

i was surprised to see they actually have directed water flow and fins

cold jolt
#

also i paid 50 each

#

not 75

finite steppe
#

water booling block

#

lol

cold jolt
#

all of these blocks come out of the same factory, so regardless of the chinese-english name the product is listed under, the block itself has the freezemod name printed on it

#

price has gone up too, i only paid 46

#

oh, that ebay listing comes with a backplate?

#

the amazon one does not

#

fyi

finite steppe
#

don't know if i could use the backplate on a gpu anyway

#
#

here it is even cheaper but the shipping is atrocious

#

this could be promising if it also has real fins

#

but you can't see

cold jolt
#

freezemod makes some good cheap stuff imo

#

oh crap

#

they brought them back

#

when i ordered mine, they didnt even have a listing for them, so i had to get mine off amazon

#

but now they do, cool

proven canopy
#

Temp sensor in the block is a cool idea

finite steppe
#

this is like a newer version

#

idk what difference there is besides the shape

#

fittings are rotated

#

maybe performs better?

finite steppe
#

there is this which is great but then i can't mess with epower

#

unless wires or copper plate can manage to squeeze under it

#

yeah i don't see how

#

i would have to remove the heatpipe and grind away the vrm coldplate

#

nevermind found my deal

#

swiftech cpu block, gpu block, pump/reservoir, and 120mm rad for $60 shipped

proven canopy
#

Not bad at all, but invest $120 or so in a nice 280/360/420 imo

finite steppe
#

oh yeah

#

even not including the rad it was still worth it

#

not using a full cover block lets me still use my arctic accelero iv backplate too

#

now i need to find a nice thick 360mm rad and i'm gonna do a push-pull fan setup

#

i have a lian li o11 clone for a case so i can have 3 fans pointing straight at the gpu/epower too

proven canopy
#

I really like using an alphacool 420 x 60mm rad with 3 P14's on it on pull arrangement

#

Quiet because the fan's intake side if offset from the fins, push pull is a waste of fans imo

finite frigate
finite steppe
#

that's arctic p14s right?

#

i like my p12s that's what i was gonna use

#

i would do a 420mm rad but my case doesn't fit it

#

i can fit a super thick 360mm though

proven canopy
#

yes, I'm a huge arctic p12/p14 5 pack for $33/28 simp

finite steppe
#

me too

#

i don't get how they are so quiet

#

how is it not a more copied design

#

anything else i use as intake on my case's really restrictive grilles gets super loud, even if it's a normally quiet fan

proven canopy
#

I mean, noctua a12x25's are objectively better, but 5x the price

#

I put p14's on things that don't need the best of the best

#

Which is almost all of my stuff

tall pelican
#

arctic P's are pretty bad at static pressure, so you'd need a push/pull on anything thicker than a 30mm rad

finite steppe
#

are you kidding

#

that's their entire design philosophy

proven canopy
#

Really? My p14's pull plenty of air through this 60mm alphacool

finite steppe
#

yeah in my experience they are great at static pressure too

tall pelican
#

look from the top -> down at the gaps in the blades

#

more gap = worse pressure

proven canopy
#

Is the gap really the main factor there?

tall pelican
#

if they made it a 6 or 7 blade design, it would be much much better

finite steppe
#

i think the angle of the blade matters more

proven canopy
#

Not other characteristics of the fan blade shape/size/rpm?

tall pelican
#

there's a ton of wasted area on Ps

finite steppe
#

pretty sure blade angle matters more, assuming a constant motor power

#

more blades probably helps but you start losing airflow

tall pelican
#

angle determines how much air for the blade

#

there's only 5 blades on the fan

finite steppe
#

i don't think the diagonal gaps matter a ton it's more about the gaps as viewed head on

proven canopy
#

But that produces a lower frequency noise at higher rpm/ same average sound pressure db

finite steppe
#

air is not going to escape out the way it's being forced in

tall pelican
#

if there's no blade forcing it in, how is it going to get forced in?

#

the gap between blades = 0 flow

finite steppe
#

i don't know how to better articulate what i'm thinking

#

i'd be able to try and show it better with physical examples

#

all i know is a p12 performs better than my corsair ml120 or noctua f12

tall pelican
#

5 large buckets vs 7 slightly smaller buckets

proven canopy
#
#

I read through a ton of it when these fans hit the market

#

My impression at the time (and still today) is that these are fantastic for the price

finite steppe
#

if more blade theory math'd out then why don't static pressure fans have like 20 blades

proven canopy
finite steppe
#

he's exactly what i'm thinking of

#

the many many blade fans don't perform great

#

they may even have better static pressure

#

but you only need a set amount for an application

#

as long as you have enough, any airflow lost to gain more pressure decreases performance

#

the arctic fans have enough and also still good airflow

tall pelican
proven canopy
#

I mean, that's what I said originally

tall pelican
#

if you need max static pressure for a given area, you dont get a arctic p12

finite steppe
#

benchmarks i looked up before had the p series hanging in with the top groups in charts

#

pretty much only losing to higher rpm fans

#

and not by a landslide

i would hardly say they "aren't great" compared to the best of the best

tall pelican
#

yeah, if you limit it to 1300rpm

proven canopy
finite steppe
#

the a12x25's entire existence is about noise normalized performance and it's barely any better

proven canopy
#

@tall pelican matreyu just joined the borg, he's entering the rabbit hole of xoc servers lol

tall pelican
#

they also have pretty bad resonations are certain rpms, out of the 15 I got, 4 were annoying at 600 rpm

finite steppe
#

interesting

tall pelican
#

optimum has a bit of his video about it

finite steppe
#

i run mine at max rpm most of the time

tall pelican
#

of my 5 corsair MLs, none resonate

proven canopy
#

They have a flimsy frame, overtightening on some cases will distort the fan so much it'll scrape on the edges

finite steppe
#

i must say at lower rpm mine are so quiet in general i don't notice if i have any resonance

#

the frame itself is about as flexible as most other fans but the legs holding the motor are pretty flimsy

tall pelican
#

I run my pc silently with 13 capped at 600 rpm

proven canopy
#

Nidec GT's, any delta/san ace/a12x25 uses a nice glass fiber reinforced ABS

finite steppe
#

i got an aio with 3 ml120 (exhaust) and 5 p12 for intakes

#

and i use 2 of these on my gpu

#

funnily enough they sucked (from a noise perspective) as intake fans

#

super loud when up against a case grille

#

but they have amazing airflow

pure socket
#

I need help with something about the overclocking on the new 3070 cards

#

The card I'm currently waiting for is the MSi gaming x trio

#

The card is not overclocked by the manufacturer

#

Does the 3070 card i mentioned support manually overclocking

#

The boost clock for MSi is 1830 mhz

#

with stock clock of 1500

finite steppe
#

never heard of a gpu you cannot overclock

vapid berry
#

Factory overclocks are pushover

#

You can do the same exact overclock with a non-factory-overclocked card ezpz

pure socket

Ok so that then means, buying a non-oc card

vapid berry
#

no

pure socket
#

you can overclock it the same way as a oc card

#

without it being more unstable

vapid berry
#

it means that the oc card and the non-oc card should be the same price, and if they are not, you should have no reason not to choose the cheaper of the two

#

unless you like the design of the more expensive card lol

So I didn't miss out on something by buying a non-oc card

#

I had an i3 3220 and a gtx 680 on an evga 80+ bronze 450w before

#

Thing would shut down if I overclocked the gpu at all

finite steppe
#

I would just try it and see

#

Maybe you could at least overclock just the cpu, or just the gpu

next quartz
flint quiver
#

I have an 850w and using a wall multimeter my 5900x 3090 build with no oc is pulling ~750w.

next quartz
#

The PSU is rated to provide 850 watts. It's pulling more from the wall because of inefficiencies. It's probably providing closer to 700 watts

#

maybe even less

flint quiver
#

Exactly which is why I need a bigger psu

#

Need headroom and to not be hitting close to the efficiency max

next quartz
#

If you are concerned about efficiency you can probably stand to upgrade but it's probably not an emergency and you can afford to wait.

flint quiver

Iโ€™m in no rush this machine is great but when the Heatkiller V block comes out in Jan there will be a need for an oc and more power lol.

next quartz

I regret not buying one from a certain website with a queue system. The price shock of looking at it in my cart after buying an engagement ring spooked me out of it and now im regretting it with the current situation looking bleak till January.

#

How's the 5900x? What ram are you running? Timings? Clock speed on the IF?

flint quiver
#

Current kit does not oc at all but I had it laying around.

#

Using a kraken x73 on it until I can get a Heatkiller block for it. Have seen 4.951 on all cores but need to setup a loop with a fan controller instead of using the b550 tomahawks bios to control fans itโ€™s a pain.

I'm new here and hoping for some help. I just got my new pc built yesterday and everything was running great. Today I went into the bios to overclock my RAM. I changes my settings to DOCP, hot save and reset, and now its not working. Everything runs, all my lights are on, but nothing is coming up on my screen and I have an orange light on my mobo. For reference I have a ryzen 5600xt, asus b550 strix mobo, and corsair vengeance 32g RAM.

vernal bloom

Still nothing. Went as far as removing the gpu to take out the battery like the manual suggests

#

Would it be possible to reset the BIOS?

next quartz
#

@vernal bloom my B550-F strix motherboard requires shorting 2 pins with a metal screw driver while the system is off with the power unplugged. To reset the bios.

#

It's in the manual on how to do it. If you have that motherboard read that. What ram speed is the docp profile?

dull ginkgo
#

@vernal bloom reset cmos is resetting bios.

next quartz
#

Ryzen has trouble with 4000

dull ginkgo
#

@next quartz they do if you have it on 1:1, uncoupled, it should so fine

next quartz
#

Then you get a latency penalty. You're best off just running 3600 or 3800. Or whatever timings work best for minimal latency

#

2000(cl)/clockspeed=the latency in nano seconds

#

Ryzen loves low latency

latent sphinx
#

oh ive heard ryzen loves high speed

next quartz

It loves both

latent sphinx
#

not rlly snything about lstency

#

oh well the

then

next quartz
#

Anything above 3200 tho is generally good

#

Don't like run 2666 to get really low latency

But 3200 cl14 was faster for me than 3600 cl16

latent sphinx
next quartz
#

Always benchmark to verify though

velvet flume
#

He went into the bios, enabled XMP, restarted the computer, and nothing is showing on the screen, with the boards q-led showing the error as DRAM

next quartz
#

I bought a 3600 kit but tuned it out. Slowest was 3800 cl18 but it had quite a bit of memory bandwidth but I had lower frame rates in games. 3600 cl16 was kinda middle ground and I was able to really tighten timings down at 3200 cl14 it wouldn't tighten past cl16 at 3600.

dull ginkgo
#

@next quartz 3200c14 does do better than 3600c16 in GN testing so far

#

1:1

next quartz
#

Yep

latent sphinx
#

makes sense

next quartz
#

I could run 1:1 at 3800 but my frame rates were 5-6% lower surprisingly

dull ginkgo
#

I mean it's what, 7.5ns first word write against 8.89ns iirc..?

next quartz
#

And I'm using an rtx 2080 so I didn't think that would matter that significantly

latent sphinx
#

i remember jayztwocents mentioned a way to calculate how fast it actually is involving the speed and CAS latency but i forgot how

#

wait isnt the quality of it in the end determined by first world latency

next quartz
#

2000(cl)/clockspeed=the latency in nano seconds

dull ginkgo
#

Not exactly

#

IF is a part of it @next quartz

latent sphinx
dull ginkgo

So I wouldn't really call first word read as the end all latency

proven canopy
next quartz
#

Well you can do the Calc on all the timings

dull ginkgo
#

Yea

next quartz
#

14-14-14-38 is what I'm running

dull ginkgo
#

Subtimings matter

latent sphinx
#

@next quartz just making sure you mean 2000*CAS/speed right

#

2000

next quartz
#

Yeah

latent sphinx
#

ok

next quartz
#

You can figure out any delay using that Calc

latent sphinx
#

is 3600 Cl 18 good

#

for 65 bucks

#

oh nvm

dull ginkgo
#

@proven canopy tbh I thought first word read was the "cas latency" and there was another term for subtimings all calculated together

next quartz
#

If you use the appropriate timing you can find the right latency but yeah

latent sphinx
#

is 3600 cl16 good at 75 bucks

dull ginkgo
#

But that's fair, guess I need another term for "cas latency"

latent sphinx
#

and is it good for ryzen gaming

next quartz
#

I mean it seems if you can get a kit that's cl14 3200 that's great or something that tightens down

#

Look for ram with Samsung b die

proven canopy

next quartz
#

#

Just don't trust the trfc timing

#

It's lies

#

At least for me it always spits out a crazy low number

dull ginkgo
#

@vernal bloom by the way, you can use Bios flashback on B550-f, just in case the bios actually got borked, and not just wacky settings.

next quartz
#

That too

dull ginkgo
#

Meh, tRFC works just fine for me on dram calc

next quartz
#

From my understanding trfc should always result in a 300 ns delay

#

And it was giving me numbers that were half so I just calculated it out myself

#

2000x/clockspeed=300

dull ginkgo
#

Don't quite remember what I had, but it worked just fine :p

next quartz
#

My stock numbers were 4 times higher than what it recommended but memory training numbers are way conservative. Ended up with something about half of what the auto setting was using.

dull ginkgo
#

Afaik tRFC is tied to other timings, not freq, but eh, haven't looked.

next quartz
#

It gets unstable if you go below 300ns from what I read

#

350ns for non Samsung b side.

dull ginkgo

1.5v is usually safe for daily on b-die, just keep the ram cool for stability, under 40c is ideal, >50c it'll likely error

why is this happening also its a msi trident 3, is it possible that the thermal paste and such has expired? or just gone bad with time? then again the only intake is the gpu vent port for air intake

@flint quiver
House central AC normally has a 1/2 or 1 HP motor that runs a squirrel cage fan that blows the air through the ducks (AKA Tubes) in the attic.
The overall diameter of the attic ducks is a lot bigger than the diameter hole on my tubes I use so it creates strong pressure since the tube is shrinking the air gets forced through.
I tape the other side of the vent off just to make sure every bit of cold goodness gets forced in my tubes.

I'm currently running a Z370 XP SLI and I thought of upgrading my processor. I got the 9900k for 320 which was a steal so I couldn't resist the offer. The problem is that my motherboard's VRMs are a little weak. I'm planning on running my processor at stock and not overclock at all. Will I be able to run the 9900k on my board and perhaps even undervolt it a bit to give the mobo some ease or do I definitely need to get a better Z390 motherboard for it?

@jade heron my 3080 oc got a small boost by overclocking it but with the 30x0 series people are saying the way to go is to undervolt by a bit then overclock.

Apparently the current cards have power limits that when you get under heavy load they tune down a bit, so overclocking has reduced effect beyond a few percent.

But undervolting, and overclocking back to normal, avoids those performance limits to keep getting boost while normally drawing less power

I was reading the IPC is better with the newer ryzens

jade gate
#

it is

wanton mason
#

all at lower watts too

jade gate
#

and if I do upgrade next year, I'll likely just get a 5900x and sell my 3900x binned cuz gold chips go for good prices

wanton mason
#

hell yea

#

I might try and pull a year or two more on this build

jade gate
#

prolly can

#

ddr5 is next year

wanton mason
#

omg

jade gate
#

i would personally

wanton mason
#

dont tell me that

#

I want now

jade gate
#

lol

#

AM5 and DDR5 next year

#

big pog

wanton mason
#

Im waiting then

#

will the AM5 be compatible with AM4?

#

or will it be completely new socket?

#

or do I not know what you are talking about lol

jade gate
#

new socket ofc

wanton mason
#

I figured but always good to ask ๐Ÿ˜„

wanton mason
#

I looked up thermosiphon and there is no chance at all for dry out? like at all?

#

ohhhhhhhh this stuff is awesome

#

low boiling point liquid so if anything broke it would probably just evaporate

#

have you seen the graphene heatsinks they are working on?

jade gate
#

oh i was referring to icegiant

#

LTT reviewed it and it has a 10 year warranty. Server grade as well

#

only $170, which for the best cooling solution on the market, is pretty good (excluding custom loops and chilled loops but those are more expensive and messier). Nothing else tops it

#

I always say this. Custom loops are sexy but messy. I hate them due to how messy they are

#

plus maintaining them is ass

#

air coolers last as long as the fans last. even then, fans are replaceable lmao

wanton mason
#

Yea I was watching an interview with one of the engineers for icegiant. They use a refrigerant with a low boiling point in the chambers of that cooler.

knotty mason
#

howdy yall, can anybody help me figure out why my ram sticks are working at 70% according to userbenchmark?

olive portal

I undervolted my i7 to 1.29v at 5ghz and itโ€™s stable

Anything below 1.29 = a blue blue

idk how to oc ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

timber yew

There's a ton of guides for every brand, but there's no real need to, and you may risk shortening things life's if you're too aggressive

vernal sail
#

is 4.5 ghz on all cores with the 5600x too mean? I want it to last but to get the most value as possible.

quartz socket
#

im just not going to then

tall pelican
#

Locking 4.5 on a 5600x is most likely a waste compared to pbo and letting it boost

prisma arch
#

i locked my i5-8250u at 3.4 ghz

prisma arch
#

i used "quickcpu" and it somehow worked for my laptop

lofty prawn
#

please AMD let us have that sweet 5.0ghz

tall pelican
#

a good amount of zen3 can do 5.0

#

my 3900xt can cpu validate 4.9 easily, probably 4.95 is I tried, and I've seen it boost to 4.85 effective

olive portal
#

This mostly applies to intels k cpus tho

#

U can do some with zen 2 ryzen but thereโ€™s more overclocking with zen 3

olive portal
#

The ideal temps for idle is 30c to 40c

#

Idk how much heat before a ryzen chip thermal throttles but trie to keep it below 90c

tall pelican
#

1.5v for valid, 4.85 was stock boosting

olive portal
#

Jesus Christ

#

Temps?

#

Thatโ€™s a lot of volts btw

tall pelican
#

no its not.... its called validations

olive portal
#

Seems good

olive portal
tall pelican
#

||zen2/3 use 1.5v at stock||

olive portal
#

Oh

#

Thatโ€™s a lot

#

Well I didnโ€™t know that

tall pelican
#

I can tell

olive portal
#

My i7 at stock used 1.1 v

olive portal
#

Lmao

prisma arch
#

is it possible to get a 5800x to 5 ghz and still be stable

.

prisma arch
#

yes?

obsidian delta
#

Is it normal that my DDR4-3200 RAM reports 1066MHz in CPU-Z?

#

I don't know much about RAM OC-ing but I did hear that RAM will default to that frequency unless you OC it?

#

I'm running an i7-7700 on a MSI B250 PC MATE mobo.

vapid berry
#

The dram chips run at 1066 for DDR4-2133

#

@obsidian delta and for DDR3-1600, they would run at 800MHz

obsidian delta
#

Ahh, because DDR

vapid berry
#

Mhm

obsidian delta
#

So for me it should run at 3200MHz / 2?

#

Which is not the case for me according to CPU-Z

vapid berry
#

Yup, if your ram is DDR4-3200

#

You can check on the module sticker for its actual spec

obsidian delta
#

What about the model number? F4-3200C16-16GVK

#

A google search says it's 3200MHz

vapid berry
#

Since it's set at 2133, you will have to set it in the bios

#

Which I think you just need to enable XMP for access to 3200?

obsidian delta
vapid berry
#

Then DRAM frequency I think

obsidian delta
#

I set it to 1600 (3200/2), testing now...

vapid berry
#

Ok, that should probably be it

obsidian delta
#

Nothing appears to have changed in CPU-Z

vapid berry
#

I've never used memory oc stuff, only lurked on others who do lol

#

Hmm

obsidian delta
#

haha same here

#

Been using this PC for years and didn't know my RAM was running under spec

#

It's the same as before pretty much.

vapid berry
#

Perhaps you could try memory try it

obsidian delta
#

I googled the name of that and the first result is someone on reddit saying it fried their RAM... ๐Ÿ‘€

vapid berry
#

Lol

#

Maybe not then idk

#

I can imagine they might have misused it

jade heron
#

should I use asus tweak2 or Msi afterburner to oc an asus 3070 tuf

Iโ€™m guessing itโ€™s the asus but all the oc tutorials I watched show msi afterburner

done per ccx yet?

jade gate

Nah

flint quiver

Never used Aida before so not sure what I should be looking at here, memory and fclk is not 1:1 just xmp enabled.

flint quiver
#

I put it in sync at the highest it will post 3733 and changed the primary timings to 14-14-14-34

jade gate
#

jealous negl

clever epoch
#

@obsidian delta the timings table simply shows the stock JEDEC timings defined for DDR4 chips at certain frequencies. If you have XMP enabled, that's the speed and timings that the chip is running at. The other timings simply show what the RAM would run at while stock without XMP

obsidian delta
#

So what speed am I running at?

clever epoch
#

idk, that page you are looking at only shows fixed information about your RAM

#

go to the memory tab instead

#

can I not embed images?

#

I can't, hold on

#

take the spaces around the dots

#

that shows the information about the memory I have in slot 2

#

it shows a slower speed, XMP profile, and standard JEDEC timings

obsidian delta
clever epoch
#

oh wow you're running hella slow

#

you're only doing 1600 MT/s

obsidian delta
#

peck

clever epoch
#

that's actually really bad

obsidian delta
#

I can tell haha

clever epoch
#

just turn XMP on

#

and don't worry about it

flint quiver
clever epoch
#

3733 at 14-14-14-34 is hella impressive

#

what voltage are you pushing through your RAM?

flint quiver
#

its a 4000 15-16-16-36 kit @1.5v xmp, I just lowered the timings since it won't boot 1:1 above 3733

clever epoch
#

oh that makes sense now

#

that's a tasty bin

#

sucks about your FCLK though

flint quiver
#

Switching to a dark hero viii board so will see if it can do better, never been a fan of msi boards.

clever epoch
#

good luck

#

you might need to bump vSOC to get that fCLK though

flint quiver

will see, the b550 tomahawk is not friendly with over clocking, have to jump the stupid thing when it fails to clear cmos so haven't really tried too much

astral nexus

Are there any good 120mm aios I could use to overclock an i5 9600k, or is buying a 120mm for ocing just a waste of time and money? With my current cooler I hit 90 degrees at 4.6 all core. My pc is a sleeper (dell dimension 4100) so there would be a lot more effort required to try and slap in a 240mm aio, while a 120mm I could just mount on my diy front fan hole.

obtuse nimbus
#

Guys i have a 10600kf and msi gaming edge wifi and rtx 3080. Should i overclock the cpu? I have been playing cyberpunk, the temps in my lian li case are around 70-80 degrees for my gpu while playing for 10 hours. Can i squeeze more performance oit of the 10600kf or just leave it as is. Temps for cpu is around 60-70 i think, i use artic 240 aio.
