little osprey
#

im running my headset through a 3.5mm jack

outer blaze
#

Are the cords plugged in all the way? If not you can get some sound but not all

stoic island
#

Anything plugged into 3.5mm will use mobo sound chip/card, alc1200 and such

little osprey
#

so this is what is like, on my old pc 100% volume would kill my ears, on this pc 100% sounds like 8 percent on this pc

stoic island
#

With the same headphones?

little osprey
#

yes'

stoic island
#

Also, in general, realtek and onboard sound chips in general wacky, worthwhile to use like an apple 3.5mm to usb-c dongle if you got one to test, better dac/amp than most mobo sound chips

little osprey
#

im using the cases headphone jack

stoic island
#

mm

#

Try rear io headphone jack first

little osprey
#

cable wont reach

stoic island
#

and then try one of these

outer blaze
#

Just upgrade your headphones to usb bluetooth😂

stoic island
#

I mean just grab the headphone, stand next to the PC with headphones plugged into rear io, and see if that helps with volume

little osprey
stoic island
#

there's a semi-decent chance the connector connecting case front 3.5mm to your mobo is not plugged in properly or just being wacky in general

little osprey
#

k

outer blaze
#

You can also check the audio connection to the motherboard and make sure it is connected fully

little osprey
#

ok just plugged directly into mobo and it blew out my eardrums

#

@stoic island

stoic island
#

yea okay front io either broken or the cable isn't plugged in fully

little osprey
#

It plugged in full though

outer blaze
#

The cabling inside could be loose

little osprey
#

It in all the way though

outer blaze
#

Must be the io is bad than somehow

little osprey
#

How is it bad

#

It’s a 4000d airflow

outer blaze
#

Like broken somehow i mean by bad

little osprey
#

Hmm

outer blaze
#

Not that it is bad quality just maybe it broke somehow

little osprey
#

Interesting

outer blaze
#

Just get an extender for like $10 and plug into the back

formal girder
#

Also@outer blaze you should be able to post your pics in Build pics now

outer blaze
#

Yup i see that now

#

One of these

little osprey
#

or i could get that apple thing at walmart rn

#

@stoic island what’s the better option

#

@outer blaze

#

?

#

Just get an aux extender thing

outer blaze
#

I haven’t done much with these. I’d assume they give the same sound quality so it’s more of what is more convenient to you i’d think. But also your front io if it has issues the usb c could be bad too. Do you have a way to test the plug?

little osprey
#

they’re super cheap

#

Do they have audio extension at Walmart

outer blaze
#

But you nnow your rear port is good so an extender would for sure be ok. Not 100% sure without googling

little osprey
#

I’m heading to Walmart rn

outer blaze
#

Walmart has them just a matter of if in stock at your store

little osprey
#

It’s walmart

#

Ok

analog pulsar
#

If someone buys say i5 12600k what gpu would you recommend with it

desert gulch
#

assuming youre playing on like 1440, itll handle any gpu easily

#

all depends on your budget

#

but a 12400f and b660 will save some money you could throw into a gpu

#

it makes more sense for most people imo

analog pulsar
#

It's 6 c and 12 t

desert gulch
#

the 12400f is yeah

#

12600k has more but those e cores arent real cores, if that makes sense

analog pulsar
#

Would you get the E cores over not having them

desert gulch
#

for gaming? no

#

not worth the extra cost imo when you can get better value by getting a better gpu

analog pulsar
#

12400F $184
12400 $208

desert gulch
#

yeah id go 12400f unless you do rendering that can use intel's quicksync, or you plan to be without a gpu for a bit

analog pulsar
#

are asrock boards bad

little osprey
#

They’re meh

analog pulsar
desert gulch
#

their LGA1700 lower end boards can be

#

not sure on that specific one

#

b660 prime d4 is nice for like the same price

analog pulsar
#

its micro ATX wont that look a bit small

stoic island
#

B660 Hdv sucks so I'd extrapolate to ASRock low end Intel boards still all suck

desert gulch
#

mr1 hows this asrock board hold up?

stoic island
#

Don't think bz or hwunboxed went over that board specifically

analog pulsar
#

is it okay to but a aio on a 12400

desert gulch
#

yeah i havent seen any testing on it

desert gulch
#

for looks? sure

#

its not needed at all, if thats what you mean

stoic island
#

Since Hdv sucks, and we have no extra info, I'll just assume that board sucks

desert gulch
#

same

analog pulsar
#

well i heard EK is good and found this for 162...(cough unlike nzxt $300 AIO)

jagged ember
#

again

desert gulch
#

thats a hard value proposition

jagged ember
#

you don't need an aio for a 12400

desert gulch
#

when a $25 cooler will do great on it

#

if you really want it for looks, thats something we cant answer

little osprey
#

$15 cooler will work 😂

analog pulsar
#

well would we get a cpu that would utilize i did like having AIO in my pc pretty RGB and didnt block all the view inside case

desert gulch
#

beginning territory for aio is like 12600k thats overclocked

#

so like 500 ish for a board and cpu

#

compared to like 350 ish for a 12400f and decent board

analog pulsar
#

so we would have to get a z690 board

desert gulch
#

if you really wanted to take advantage of the 12600k, yea

#

thats the begginning scenario a aio would even be considered

analog pulsar
#

whats Z and M difference is it just OCing

desert gulch
#

M?

#

m is micro, like micro atx

#

you mean B and H?

analog pulsar
#

no like 660M

desert gulch
#

the M just means its smaller than normal

analog pulsar
desert gulch
#

the B is what matters

#

but yeah, main difference between B660 and z690 is overclocking

analog pulsar
#

gigabyte has a z690 UD DDR4 for $200

desert gulch
#

UD is nice

#

Pro A is also a great board

#

little better than Ud, but not sure on current pricing

analog pulsar
#

what about looking at used product

analog pulsar
#

is pro A gigabyte

desert gulch
#

MSI

analog pulsar
#

analog pulsar

desert gulch

analog pulsar
#

desert gulch
#

btw with intel 12th gen boards, make sure to grab a ddr4/d4 version if you buy

analog pulsar
#

i did

desert gulch
#

its kinda easy to mess up and buy the ddr5 version

#

good

analog pulsar
#

make sure board is DDR4

#

DDR5 expenzive

#

storage

#

should I get 512 ssd boot drive and a 1TB ssd for games

desert gulch
#

id just get a 1tb m.2 drive and see how that works out

analog pulsar
#

well i like to download all my games into pc since i have slow internet i dont have to wait i can just boot them up

#

GTA 5 takes like 8 hours to download

#

and MSFS takes 8 hours too maybe

#

call of duty cold war as well since its a big game

i have 3 on the front and 3 on top

im gonna put the other fan in that 1 slot in the back but idk what to make it as

So I figured I could use their laptop and grab everything I need while I'm there and then do it all at my place.

I'm just not sure what all drivers I'm going to need.

I also need to download win11 to a USB stick.

Alright. I suppose I'll just get it all put together and see what it wants to do. Will the pc automatically use the igpu when I go to install windows?

That 3500 in your earlier screenshot?

frank stirrup

tbh id look at a gpu upgrade

then cpu/ram depending on the board

That's usually the most effective upgrade path yeah

frank stirrup

especially on an rx570 + r5 3500 and 3000mts ram

nvm

thats not the best upgrade path

mossy venture

Mmm

I doubt the psu would support much of a gpu upgrade, the mobo has to be changed if you swap cases and vice versa, the motherboard won't support much of a cpu upgrade, the ram is probably 3200c22

wooden quartz

your card shouldn’t need a sag bracket unless it’s a chonker and or triple fan

some cards can get cooling benefit from them

aka your card

which is rather odd bc i have never heard of that working before

desert gulch

Heavy cards didn't use to exist like this

These damn cards get heavier and heavier

the worst case was 21C

desert gulch

earnest olive

I got 1.5C from tightening my bracket

which means the 3090 strix cooler is very well designed (I'd hope so for that msrp), it's just so heavy

desert gulch
#

I got 3c overall with my 2 fan 5700xt and a Lego support

little osprey
#

i dont have a single clue how that works other than the heatsink pressing harder on the cooler

earnest olive
#

that's exactly it lol

little osprey
#

wait, that made no sense.

#

what.

earnest olive
#

helps increase mounting pressure from the other side

desert gulch

Heatsink presses harder onto the die

little osprey
#

yes thats what i was trying to say

earnest olive
#

screws are basically holding the cooler up

little osprey
#

back to my calc hw

earnest olive
#

with a tight support bracket you're instead making a force sandwich

#

instead of one direction

#

with a well designed card the gain shouldn't be large because the screws should have the majority of the force

#

but with a poorly designed card you can get huge temp difference if it was getting bad mounting pressure under its own weight

They are equally important. If you use pcpartpicker it will show you the first word latency which takes both into consideration

Ryzen needs to take into account the infinity fabric so the ideal speed is between 3600 and 3800.
Intel is different, you can push higher numbers without much penalty.
