it wasn't good by any means
I was expecting chernobyl but it was passable
I can't see airgaps in this auron case tbh
hmmm
Is this the proper way an intake fan goes
I have the phantek fans that came with my case
Wait I think I got it
They were positioned like this when I first opened
Cool air blowing in?
I’m trying to do neutral airflow
I spilled tea into my pc a week ago and it got destroyed
Oh damn that’s horrible
yes that's proper intake
how bad was the spill? I'd bet some components are still okay
An entire solo cup worth. It got all over the pcb for the graphics card, seeped down into the pcie 16x slot, and the psu looked like someone gave it two shots
ouch
Thanks!
well, cpu/ram/storage could still be alive
might be worth testing
those are the most likely parts to still be alive I'd think
mobo possible but likely has some damage
Was time for an upgrade anyway, but I flat out cannot budget for a half decent graphics card, in today's market at least.
I had an AMD FX 8370, 2x4gb ddr3, and an MSI GTX 980 OC 2
I saved the drives, tested my ram in another pc I have as a paperweight, essentially a school computer. Didn't post. I don't have another AM3+ board to test the cpu
oooof
hope that gtx 980 is saveable
definitely the star of the build lol
did you clean it and test it?
Doubt it. Pcb got doused
there's a chance if the power supply shut down instantly and saved it
not a high chance but still a chance
Nope I didn't have any alcohol and the stores in my area were closed. The pc did turn off when it happened
I'd still try
if that gpu still works you better give that power supply a soldier's funeral
I didn't mean to derail this conversation, sorry
I'll try the gpu in a buddy's rig if I have the chance
I now have in storage a R5 1600x, MSI Tomahawk b350 board, and 2x4 ddr4 ram. Don't remember the speed
that's a steep upgrade from the fx 8370
would be nice if you could get 16gb ram
also I want some tea now
But trying to get a new gpu in today's market seems like highway robbery. I haven't followed the market releases or trends in about 3 years, so I know very little about the best option for the $, as much as I hate that phrase
Is there an arrow molded into the plastic of the frame?
There’s arrows but it’s somewhat confusing, I figured out the right way it goes tho from the blades!
that is a correct exhaust orientation
Yay
I have pea brain and the blade direction always confuse me. I usually try to use the arrows, or, if I have intake fans in the front I just mimic the exhaust fan the same way
It's a wonder I've ever gotten past post with anything I've worked on
just remember that the fan blows air from the pretty side to the less pretty side lol
I bought some tea
Ooooofiter
at least it's good
So the cooling on my pc isnt the best so, should I buy the 5 pack of p12s and like a 40-50 dollar cpu cooler or should I buy a case and an aio
whats your cpu
r7 5800x
id highly recommend a liquid freezer ii, 240mm or 280mm
dark rock 4 pro works
which is a heatsink
but youre going to need good airflow in addition to a very good heatsink (the heatsink being the dark rock 4 pro)
im not sure if theres any other heatsinks that compare to aios
ya
mx cougar-g air max or whatever it is works]
and cpu cooler because its really loud at somepoints
id replace the case first and go from there
ok
whats the budget for the case?
Id probably say under 100
p400a digital is still 100$
so id go with the cougar
and it comes with fans
I just got this pc and I don't want to keep bothering my parent to keep buying stuff for my computer
id say with the different case the cpu temps would be bearable
probably around 90c but i dont think high enough to cause damage to the cpu
just as long as youre not doing super intense multi core loads
and then maybe get an AIO later on when you can bother your parents again lol
lmao, ya I did a cpu test and temps hit 91 and when I play games like warzone and gta 5, val, it gets to like 80
ya
not bad
what is throttling on a 5800x?
95c
ok
tho id keep it under 90
I keep HWmonitor open on almost all the time to see what temps I get while playing games
can you get away with generic soundcard or do people buy brands?
@mossy venture I watched most of this and he had a hard time removing the I/O shield, and looks like a pain to move cases, but I am not sure if that is for every prebuilt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp5oDQw1ZW8 1:48:50
I successful did the ROG Strix GA15DK Case Swap! I used a Corsair 4000D for the case swap. Added some Budget Friendly GIM 120mm PWM ARGB Fans and GIM ARGB Lightstrips!

yo @earnest olive you got a link to 6900xt oc formula vs 3090?
wdym
theres a bench yall use for comparing 6900xt oc formula to 3090 often but idk where to find it and someone is currently saying 6900xt loses to 3080
no idea just look at individual games ig
6900xt will lose to 3080 when rt is involved
Old msg, thought I'd let ya know there's a 12300 & it's simply an oc'd 12100 that's almost 12400 price.
pain
I just upgraded from an intel to a amd, now have a 5600x, b550 phantom 4 and 16 gb pny 3200, whenever i hit the power button the debug lights all come on, and then switch off a little, and then all turn off and the pc boots
is this something i should be worried about?
Ikr. It's like they do it for those you don't know/realize the standard 12100 is 98% of the performance. I'd like to see a 8P0E cpu, the wont happen since plain 12700 already has E cores
to an average person
5.2 sounds a lot better than 5.0
If it's all within a second while booting, seems about normal. If longer, I'll let someone else talk.
yeah i press it, it goes like cpu dram, they turn off, vga and boot turn on, then off and it botos
boots*
that sounds normal
Average dumb person maybe. 5.2 to 5 is pretty close. VS something like 3gen going 3.6 to 3.7 😅. Sure is an ez way to get an extra $50/50% from a buyer. Big yikes
maybe theyll make a better 13100
I'd hope so. Doubt it'll be too similar to 12100/12300. Bet it'll be a decent change, unlike 10gen to 11gen. Even if we rarely actually upgrade only 1 cpu gen.
More expensive lol, slightly more higher end but eh
I suppose only 10$ more ye
hey so umm my b560 tomahawk wifi is having trouple connecting to my 2.4 GHZ wifi channel but is fine to connect to my 5G one, i am downstairs so i need the 2.4 instead any tips on how to fix
and sometimes it will connect if i can get it to show up but then i cant download anything even though it says connected
Hi guys, having some trouble getting my new computer to boot up windows 10 from my old hard drive, I am using a z590-e gaming wifi board from asus and I keep ending up at the bios screen, any tips on how to fix this?
How do I do that?
google it, i'm not familiar with asus bios, sorry
You should be doing a fresh install really
So I should just get a windows 11 license downloaded?
I bought 2 nvme drives
Don't pay full retail for windows. You can either try to transfer your old license or buy a new one cheap. Plenty of places to get $5-25 keys. We can't link them though, potential legal issues with gray market.
That's another problem I'm having actually, my computer is only reporting the 1
11700k
Sometimes the board disables a m.2 slot if you have a sata device in too
Yeah maybe the hdd is doing that
Asus z590-e
The m.2 drives are in slots 1 and 2 for 4th generation, looks like if I use sata connections 1 and 2 the 3rd generations are disabled I think
What nvme drives
Easy solution then, move the hdd to one of the other sata ports
Unless the nvme is sata and not pcie
Sabrent Rocket 4.0 2TB
Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 500GB
Firecuda 2TB hybrid is plugged into the 3rd sata spot
The Rocket 4 plus and the Firecuda
Ok
Which slot is the rocket 4.0 in
Might try that, and the 4 plus is in slot 1
The first and second m.2 slots share bandwidth
Try the third slot
Since the cpu only has 20 lanes even if it worked it would mean either the gpu or the drives would be dropped half bandwidth
Yeah he’s right
Gpu would go to 8x if it did work
I hate they put crap on boards you really can’t use
Can I use a 4th gen m.2 in a gen 3 slot?
Yeah
It will just max out at gen 3 speeds unfortunately
I’m pretty sure to get more than 1 gen 4 nvme you gotta go AMD or intel 12th gen
AMD doesn't do more than one gen 4 also on consumer boards
Pretty sure 12th gen is the same
Why would they give me 2 gen 4 slots then? Lol
Well you could use both if you didn't have a gpu lol
I've been ignoring X570 for so long I guess I forgot lol. B550 is better usually
Yes it’s better value but if you wanna use two gen 4 nvme then x570 is needed
I got this board used for a steal or I’d have bought b550
That and the vrm design on B550 is newer
So they overclock better
They're also more likely to support 5000 series out of the box
The x570 chipset fan is also another point of failure
Dude sold me a 3800x, asus x570 e gaming, rm850, Corsair case and. 1TB 970 evo for $500
That works
Couldn’t pass that up and sold all but the mobo which I put a 5800x in
Sort of sure they didn't. 1st pcie slot for gpu is 4.0 (16 lanes), 1st m.2 slot is also gen4 (4lanes). The other m.2 slots are all gen 3 probably. Afaik
I’ll sell this x570 well before the fan dies 😬
It’s listed gen 4 but if he uses both 1 and 2 then the Gpu gets 8 lanes
gpu at 4.0 only needs 8 lanes tbh
True also
hell I run my 3080 at 3.0 x8
works totally fine
gpus simply dont need more bandwidth than that yet
Yeah that's fine just didn't know some z590 mobos have more than 1 gen 4 m.2 slot, that's good
until 24gb+ of vram becomes commonplace
I didn’t either till I looked at his manual
and graphics apis dont really change all that much
like, the amount of bandwidth doesnt really increase an awful lot, think about pcie 2.0 x16 gpus
in 15 or so years, we have only quadrupled available gpu pcie bandwidth
Yeah 3.0 x4 seems the sort of cutoff for modern cards. Bit bigger performance penalty if you went that far.
yeah, i dont think pcie 5.0 will be coming to consumer platforms for years to come
well i suppose it wouldnt suprise me if it was used for the chipset link
but suddenly your montherboards just got much more expensive to manufacture to handle 5.0 speeds that literally no consumer will use for a decade
Seeing as my cpu only supports 20 pci-e lanes, does that mean I can only have 1 m.2 alongside my graphics card?
So how many do I have total (if you happen to know or where I can look lol) with my 11700k and z590-e?
Ya could look up mobo's specs in asus site
Thanks man!
You can use 3 and 4 but they are gen 3
Will a 5600 G bottleneck a 3080
No*
At 360p maybe
Or in cs:go
Or maybe 720p
Thanks
What b550 is recommended for a 5600g? Preferable no bios update needed since they don't have a 5000 or 3000 series cpu
Theyre rebuilding from an hp build
It has flashback incase it doesn't come with 5000 apu support
Thanks
Np
What would the temps be on a R7 5800x with a scythe fuma 2
not 5800x, but max temps on 5950x is 84, with avg as 53 according to hwinfo64. that was running cinebench r23 for 10min. no throttling.
5800x typically runs a bit hotter than 5950x
with PBO/CO my galahad 360 is barely keeping my 5800x from throttling in prime95
around 83C at 160W PPT
cinebench r23 will run like 72c at 130W
hero is still a strix board lol
why do you want the "best" motherboard if you're only pairing with a 5800x?
only makes sense to drop $400 on a mobo if you've already got a 5950x + 3090 and still want to burn more money
Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII HERO (Wi-Fi) ATX Motherboard with PCIe 4.0, on-board Wifi 6 (802.11Ax), 2.5 Gbps LAN, USB 3.2, SATA, M.2, Node and Aura Sync RGB Lightin
I've been over this with you yesterday
Not best what is better Hero or Strix ?
both are so overkill it doesn't matter
even a 5950x is not very hard to drive for a motherboard
peaks at like 230W? midrange b550 vrms can handle that no problem
no
thermal throttling

Reason: Duplicated text
@digital trail stop looking at motherboards that cost more than your cpu
if you're not going to listen to anything what's the point of asking here
do you want or need the feature set the board provides?
if you know better than all of us then go buy whatever you want
I didn’t say that
I just say what is better
better for what?
…..
Strix, it's fewer characters to type
what do mean?
Are you doing LN2/Dry Ice OCing?
me ?
Aye
what is it you want to do with the build? look at the feature sets, search the internet, read the spec sheets and make up your own mind. both are quality high priced mb
no point trying to convince him buying a mobo that costs more than his CPU isn't worth it, dude made up his mind
paying $400 to gain 0.0% performance over a midrange $150 board
I do not understand
then you can get by on a b550 board
out of pure curiosity, what could an asrock b550m/ac handle?
i dont think the vrms are that good on it
i am very dull when it comes to vrms
i recently learned what they are
Then I doubt you are overclocking at all. In which case you are wasting massive amounts of money on a motherboard. You should basically never spend more then $200 USD on a consumer board unless you are looking for a specific feature ($200 is still a lot of money for a board that doesnt have a specific feature). Also, 12th gen Intel is better priced then AMD in most places of the world as of now.
so i have no clue
if you tell me what to look for or smthn like that i could tell you
if it contributes at all, i have good airflow in my case
would i be fine if i mix and match ram in my laptop
it has some random OEM 4gb ddr4 2400 stick in there rn
probably
depends on die
but just get two of the same ram
if the dies are the same manufacturer it doesnt matter
ensures compatibility
PCBs and binning can make a difference
It's very rare for mixing DIMMs to causes issues. When it does it's usually cuz the mobo is being dumb with mem training
then im unlucky
i corrupted windows with incompatible ram
and blue screened a ton because i refused to admit the ram was the issue
hp ram mixed with g skill ram
didnt know the manu mattered, thought the "die matching" just meant the timings
timing could be off
Did you make sure that mem was retrained when adding new RAM (boot up takes longer, most computers boot loop few times)?
i barely knew anything about pcs when i had them mixed
so i have no clue
but the die manus were definitely different
the g skill had a samsung iirc
hp had micron
GNRC-SODIMM 4GB 2400MHz 1.2v D
is this just a nickname for the ram
very unhelpful info from HP
if you search the model number you can find the exact same stick, that isnt the model number though
though obviously hp charges a premium
im not buying it from HP lmao
if i were you id just grab a 55$ 16gb kit off amazon
3200c22 kit is what i saw for that price
which is a jedec
There are a whole lot of timings. Advertised timings are generally just the primary ones. Secondary/Tertiary arent advertised and are based on mobo mem training unless you manually set each number (different form XMP)
My laptop cant even support 3200
its an i3-8130U
Yes im just getting another 8gb stick so i have 12gb total
windows 11 is struggling on 4gb
its HP you said?
Yes
can you link the model laptop you have? gonna see if i can find what ram it uses
14-df0023cl
@mossy venture ryzen chips aren't nearly as demanding on vrms as high end intel
most b550 boards can run a 5800x
maybe not to full potential
but can run
basically any bottom of the barrel board will run a 5600x
thanks
i figured itd easily run a 5600x, since it obviously runs a 3600 and the guy said he had a 3800x in it before me
(the guy being the person i bought it from)
eh
not too much more than whats on amazon
but
im pretty sure the ram is kingston
even bottom tier a520 boards can handle 5600x
i didnt even know a520s existed
never seen one lol
i believe this is the right ram https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-8GB-DDR4-2666MHZ-SODIMM/dp/B07D3NG9MG/ref=sr_1_8?
I have no idea why they made that board
from what i can tell hp uses kingston dies for hp 14s
why did they make such a nice a520 board
sips?
also ill check it out
costs more than quite a few b550s too
no, try thaiphoon burner
Ill try to look at the ram on hwinfo one sec
Oh
Ok well ill install that instead
Supports 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Processors AMD AM4 Socket Dual Channel DDR4, 4 DIMMs 5+3 Phases Digital PWM Advanced Thermal Design with Enlarged Surface Heatsinks Ultra Durable PCIe 3.0 x16 Slot 1x NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 Slot Studio Grade ALC1200 Audio Codec Blazing Fast 1GbE LAN Rear DVI & HDMI Suppor...
its a laptop
110$ a520
looking directly at the dies is the most reliable way to find out what the die is
whats the point instead of a b550
but honestly
mixing dies is not a problem at all if you're just going to run jedec
theres adhesive rubber feet attached that cant stick back onto the laptop so id have to buy new feet for it
die doesn't matter if you're not going to oc
but i guess i dont need the rubber feet that much
wat
ah
the screws are glued in as well
dont bother
i took apart an old hp laptop with the same thing
I mean the best you could do would be double sided tape
took me 30 min to get the screws off after fighting to get the feet off
for the stupid feet
you can just buy whatever ram you want as long as it has the same or higher speed bin
they recycled the design of the laptop from last gen that included 2.5 inch sata drive compatibility but for some reason this laptop doesnt have that cable
there just an empty rectangle spot 😔
bruh
lmao
my laptop
is a 2021 refresh of the 2020 gp66
and they kept the chassis the same except
they changed the usb-c for mini displayport
I want the usb-c back...
Bruh
I'm never going to use this mini displayport lmao
why would I need to drive 3 screens with my laptop
😭
thunderbolt?
mine doesn't have thunderbolt either
Yeah that
don't need it
oh sips i thought that id make you dissapointed
The regular usb C port is pointless
i opened up my brothers laptop last night to show him the temps arent an issue
he had multiple ad wares, a trojan crypto miner virus as well as SO MUCH BLOATWARE
hes 18, and managed that
Lol
with windows defender active
I think you should give your brother a macbook
lol
the worst part is
well now I'm really disappointed
I thought you were better than this cameron
😂
most demanding thing he does is fallout 4
well, at least someone is making use of it with that miner trojan
Im tryna get into music production a little and logic pro x is only on mac
not a gpu
true
And overall i just think i would be better off with a mac for productivity
and gamers tend to be a little savvier than the people that usually fall for these viruses
spreading a cpu miner is probably a better use of time lol
remembrant is hitting shelves soon tho
35 minutes to download thaiphoon burner ?!
16 series perf on apus
i cant see that emote
im going to hope its the right one
school internet fun

At least you can access discord
i cant even sign in to my google account at school
cursed
they blocked the google sign on page
F
everything you do has to be microsoft i guess
part of the reason i bought a laptop is bc i was so tired of my school laptop
slow asf, first off
second everything was blocked
i got one because i need a laptop for the summer time
not for gaming just for like office 365 apps and discord
i also like having it for late night gaming when my family is asleep because my moms room is right next to mine, and for travel
though i dont travel often
@earnest olive how do i see die manufacturer? i got thaiphoon burner running now '
Just curious
thinking of buying this for my laptop
says samsung
as long as the speed bin is the same or higher, it doesn't matter what die
any mixed dies will run jedec with each other
already said this
do you currently have 2400mhz ram
then should be fine
What's the best 500gb or 1TB M.2 SSD for gaming that's affordable? Otherwise I'll go for the WD Black or the Samsung one
Mp33/sn550
P31 is great if looking for a nicer drive
But those first two are great for most people
Sn570 is good too
so rn on newegg their is a rtx 3070 for $1074.99 and a rtx 3060 ti for $749.99, im upgrading from a gtx 1080 FTW, what GPU should i do? i also have a ryzen 5 5600x if that helps
bc the RTX 3070 was known for being stronger than a rtx 2080 ti
Thanks
but the rtx 3060 ti is the same gpu power as a rtx 2080 super
3070= 2080 ti, 3060 ti=2080 super
At those prices, 3060 ti is better to buy
yeah u right, also for some reason the gtx 1080 i have is going for $999.99 minimum on ebay, should i sell my gtx 1080 for like $800 and buy the rtx 3060 ti or should i wait for lower prices, and a safer chance of selling my gpu and not going without a working pc for who knows how long if something goes wrong
Where do you live?
florida
well gpu prices in florida are still kinda dumb on ebay
well i have a evga gtx 1080 ftw hybrid
Then just keep thaf
Do keep in mind ebay is a bit dumb
oh prices dropped
It's still a good card
ehhhh, its getting bullied by newer games
my poor card cant push past 80 fps on some games on just high settings, on medium settings some games do 100fps if im lucky
and with a newer card it would have better driver support
Some games just aren't well optimized
maybe for my birthday i could ask for a rtx 3060 ti lol, and then maybe give my gtx 1080 to my sister, she is running a rx 570 atm
80fps is still quite high tbh
I can't really get past 80fps on tarkov with my 3060ti
not really i play competitive games and i would try to reach a smooth 144fps or 165fps
and 80fps looks janky on a 165hz monitor
If competitive games aren't giving you 144fps at 1080p with a 1080 I think there's a decent chance of CPU bottleneck
well i mean tarkov is well... tarkov
i have a ryzen 5 5600x
idk if its a cpu bottleneck
Other than Fortnite being badly optimized nowadays, what you have should easily do 144fps in csgo and rocket league
Bo3 is old so it should also be doable
You sure you don't have some weird resolution setting?
well also i have a 1080 thats meant to overclock to stupid high levels so i might need to check that
I got 60 fps on medium in bo3 with a 1030 and 3470
nope, 1920x1080 16:9
Fun
why should i not get the WD Black 500GB SN750 over the SN550? Same price and the WD Black is up to 3600MB/s vs 2400MB/s
Those sticker speeds don't really matter
For the average user, you won't notice the difference
Especially for the price
luckily they are the same price for me so might as well go for the black
What price is the sn750? I mean if it's same price sure but what country are you in?
550 is a good drive already
SN570 is a tier higher and I've seen it cheap too
Maybe not in Canada but something to look for
Does anyone know the difference between the z trio and the x trio?
Binning mostly
Slight differences in boost clocks, I don't think they use different heatsinks
Ah, thanks
x trio was discontinued in favor of z trio so msi wouldn't have to honor preorders after realizing they could jack up retail prices
they changed the backplate from plastic to metal so they could say they did something
Thanks!
hey yall so this guy is offering a rtx 3060 ti for $750 and he said he would do a trade and the card i have is a gtx 1080 ftw hybrid which goes for $450 on ebay and is around 30% weaker than the rtx 3060 ti, how much money should i offer with my gtx 1080?
like $200
a 3060 ti isn’t worth that much
300 is fair
Ye it is
ah
3060 ti is only 10% worse than a 3070
well im gonna talk with the guy and see what he says
ok so the dude said he would do the gtx 1080 with $150 in cash
and i offered if he wanted $200 and he declined and said $150
so yay got lucky lol
Oh wow
very lucky jeez
well i should have a rtx 3060 ti by sunday
That’s a steal
well also he said the gtx 1080 i have can go for $500 or more so
the math adds up ig
Yeah but it’s still a 5 year old card
The market makes it worth more than it should be
its still a strong ass card for its age
holy cow, you’re getting it cheaper than I do in my country
£477
you can get 2060’s for that price :/
Yeah but if cards were on shelves it would be like a $200 card
no its $750 for us americans
its just im trading a up to $500 card and paying $150 cash
Sick deal
ikr
Yeah I’d trade that all day
Nah it still performs around 3060 level
So would be like a ~$250 card if prices weren't wack
well he said that him and i will meet and trade and i asked him if its ok if i bring a small test rig to make sure both cards work to make sure its a safe trade
Good idea
well yay by sunday ill have a rtx 3060 ti
Hope it works out for you
i really hope so to lol
congrats
did he show proof of it working?
he sent a vid, but i asked if i can bring a small rig to test both cards and he agreed
nice
Do you know the model, just curious
Is my RAM speed limited by my cpu?
Depends
To an extent
What cpu do you have?
11700k
What motherboard too
Asus Z590-e gaming wifi
Yeah you'll have no issues with ram speed
And I'm using 4 sticks of g. Skill 8gb 3600
That's fine
So I can only go up to 3200?
No
IDK pato is prob right
It means if your cpu can't do 3200mhz ram at jedec it's defective
Ah ok, so what is the max? And how can you tell?
depends on binning
of the chip
Ok so it varies?
What's the easiest way to tell if the cpu is defective?
yeah but there be an average that almost all chips in a gen can do
And that is?
should i get better peripherals or save for a gaming pc? i currently have a laptop and it runs games decently
Save for pc
What peripherals do you have
The cpu has one of the lowest failure rates out of all the parts in the computer according to both amd and Intel. If it works at all when you start it, it's going to last a long time.
Either it doesn't work when you plug it in, or you basically got a 1 in a billion defect
this is more so asking for opinions than help with a build: a friend is doing a build for a friend, budget isnt set yet since its from donations (shes deaf and was adopted to a poor family). do you guys think we should live 100$ or so on a gift card for her to get games?
If they don't already own games, I think game pass will be a better idea
hoping to get around 800, me and some others together have 500$ so far
@sharp temple so it wouldn't boot up at all then, correct?
The "max" speed is going to vary by motherboard more than the cpu tbh
On Ryzen, IF will limit you more often, but for Intel, any modern CPU won't limit you too much
It's like one chip can handle 5000 and another could do 6000 kinda thing, you'll usually be limited by something else first
You can desync IF and run faster. I've done up to 4800 with looser timings.
Yea, but meta is iirc smth like 5000+ with desync
Yeah if you're running at the rated xmp for the sticks the cpu is the least of your worries
Unless it's like Zen
It's overclocking further that the cpu bin and motherboard have a bigger impact on
But other than that, xmp should not be an issue
Yeah but that voltage bars it from daily use, I had 4800 22-24-24 at 1.55v
Definitely not a daily thing, meant meta for like hwbot subs
Oh yeah definitely, but honestly intel imc clocks better anyway
Other than Zen 2 apus, Intel has been a decent bit ahead in terms of imcs
Yeah 5600g is insane doing 2000 fclk
I mean like 4650g&4750g pushing like 7000 mem
Hey, is there someone here who could help me out? I have a build in mind with my budget and I want some thoughts on it, especially compatibility, and just extra thoughts, (btw this would be the first pc I’d be building and I don’t know too much)
Sure, what do you need?
So I have some parts that me and a friend picked out but I wanna know if everything is compatible
Okay, have you used pcpp?
I’m on it rn, I tried another site but the parts wouldn’t show up
I’ll see what I can do
You're welcome to paste the link when you're done, you can set custom prices on pcpp if you're getting it from somewhere else
Ok
So I made my list but I need to find a compatible motherboard
You can paste it as is and I can give you some advice
What's the overall budget?
To start, 1650 for 300$ is a very bad value, lemme see if anything decent in stock atm
Ok
@slim rampart Are you comfortable with going used or no?
Yes as long as it’s in a good condition I’m fine with used
Well, to start, it would be a good idea to watch r/hws for deals on ~300$ 1070/980ti, or better, I'll make a quick list for what's possible with the current market, not a good value build imo because of GPU prices, but usable
Yeah, I heard the GPU prices we’re supposed to be going down this year but idk
No one really knows when GPUs are going back to normal, anyone can make a prediction, but things are just too muddy, there's no real way to tell how much demand there is and how much actual supply there is
is the cpu or mobo already bought?
oh
used, i see
ahhh
for igp, since GPUs bad
Anyways, that's a start to look at, 5600g for the decent iGPU for use while looking for a GPU
If you do find a GPU right away, you can swap to doing a 12100 or 12400 build
I’m kinda confused, sorry
10400 imo, leave more room for gpu
and while the 12100f does beat 10400 in single core patos pointed out that the extra 2 cores helps it a good bit more
oh wait
12100f is much cheaper isnt it
40$ cheaper, nvm
Ye, and 12400 if they do need the CPU power
and tbh, I prefer 12400 when possible
bit more headroom is nice
what ram should i buy instead of ballistix now for 16gb 3600
Not when im ready to build tho
gskill is decent, but as for good ram ive no clue
I don’t want warranty to run out before i actually start using it
Yeah same
i know the ripjaws are meh but ballistix was the no brainer
im not sure theres much ram thats as good as ballistix for the price
im glad i picked up a 32gb 3200c16 kit from them when it was on sale
damn
Some ddr4 bdie may be on epic sale around that time
Mainly if trying to OC it a bunch. G.Skill 4000c18 is ok at $135ish & Ballistix 3200c16 is still currently $115ish, so not too bad. I bet there'll be another $90-100 sale eventually (to clear stock or w/e).
B-die has been under $100 lately pretty consistently
Not just g.skill but oloy and patriot I've seen
Oh right on, gotta keep my eyes open more.
They're not all on pcpp, so you'll have to check wegg and Amazon once in a while
I can ping you if I see one
Nah it’s fine, im not building that soon anyways
im just wondering what a good alternative would be for when the time comes and what to recommend to others yk
KFConsole dethroned

👍
Morning everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with my build. My Asus Z590-e gaming wifi board is not picking up any wifi signals during the windows 10 install (at the point where it says I need internet). Should I be seeing my wifi connection or does something need to be set up after I load in windows?
Gotcha, so I should proceed with the windows installation without wifi and just update later?
Mhm
*thumbs up emoji
Just continue the install without wifi, windows should install some generic drivers during setup anyway
Sounds good, and then once that's done is there a way to install drivers without access to internet?
You should be able to use the windows generic driver to connect to the WiFi but if that doesn't work you can download somewhere else and pop them onto a usb
Might just do that while I am at work honestly
like this?
yes, the flashback button
thx
I can without cpu?
mhm
You just need the power connected to the board
ok thank you
Np
No
I only have these three front connectors
I’m trying to figure out why my pc isn’t turning on
Make sure they're in the correct places
Alright
I've seen some confusing front panel diagrams. Ended up with power and reset switched a couple times.
Oohhh :(((
Yeah I still haven’t had any luck with it turning on
I’m gonna take a break
The only one that you HAVE to do is the power sw. there is a + and -. If it doesn’t turn on, flip it around
Thank you so much, I’m gonna try that out when I go back to it
Can someone help me build a computer my budget is like 2500
Are rtx 3 series still impossible to get?
For gaming? And what country
Kind of
Gaming USA
That's a significant downgrade
Thank you sir you are right
I will buy these parts, but finding the gpu will be difficult?
Hello, i am in the market to upgrade my current setup and i am just wondering some opinions on what is going to be the best bang for my buck. i think that my CPU is the bottleneck for sure. currently i am running a ryzen 7 1700x, radeon 6700xt GPU, 32gb ram. wondering if intel is the way, or stick with AMD
wasnt really sure on where to put this question, Newegg just directed me to this server
Easy get a ryzen 7 5800x
The gpu i listed is in stock, why would you want a 3070 over a 6800xt?
Yes an upgrade is very much needed, what motherboard do you have?
@neat dove what kind of performance jump would that be?
5800x would be a massive jump in perf
@fossil cedar uhm i think i should probably upgrade the MOBO as wel, its a gigabyte ab350m-DS3H AM4 micro atx
Yeah that motherboard won't be able to handle it, you might as well just go intel i5 12600k instead then
@fossil cedar i think the 3070 and the 6700 are fairly comparable right? and i dont mind upgrading the motherboard as well
you can do amd radeon card if you want to BUT radeon is known for having very common driver issues, Nvidia drivers are known to not have issues most of the time
AMD drivers are fine this time
its more so if you want DLSS and other Nvidia software
3060 ti and 6700xt are comparable yes but my comment above was directed at the guy above you
They only drivers that had issues where rx 5000 series, the rest are just as good as nvidia
i think im gonna get a 3060 ti soon to upgrade from my gtx 1080, need more fps
well i had a 6700xt for a bit but i had issues, ig i was unlucky
It might not be as big of an upgrade as you expected btw
@fossil cedar oh gotcha, i just feel that im just not getting the kind of power that im supposed to with the current setup, for that cpu what kind of mobo do you recommend?
its what 30 somethin %? still pretty good in my eyes, im just trynna reach 165fps in some games
If you didn't use DDU to get rid of your old nvidia drivers that was probably why
at the time i never had a nvidia card
I5 12600k(f) and a z690 if you want to overclock, b660 if you don't depending on pricing
sold my 6700xt for $1000 at the time than bought a gtx 1080 for $400
Yeah that's fair i just think gpu upgrades should be more like 50% better
@normal dawn what country are you in?
20 series to 40 series maybe 50% or more
not really, a good gpu upgrade is if its 30% better
usually if the gpu is stronger than your current one by 30% or more its good to go, but dont upgrade if the gpu is only %20 better or lower
No point going 5800x, your board cant handle it, no point buying Ryzen 5000 in 2022 unless you already have a suitable board, intel 12th gen beets it
You do you, that's what i believe tho, 40-50% or more would only be worth it to me
So my best option is to go intel with the cpu and board?
for sure
Yes
like i said 30% is for a general idea, but for some people like you, you want to do a bigger upgrade which is fine
12600k outclasses the 5800x
@normal dawn what ram and cooler do you have?
surprisingly i can OC my r5 5600x to the full 4.85ghz and im using a x370 board, well a later/newer model
What voltage?
Also I'm pretty sure it can pbo to 5ghz lol
@fossil cedar corsair water cooler, corsair vengeance 2666 i believe 32gb
around 1.43, but i have a phat aio to keep it cool
ok ram definitely needs an upgrade
Omg that's gonna degrade the crap out of your cpu
@normal dawn this is what I'd do
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TmsJVw
yeah ik, i need to find a more stable voltage
Turn it off and enable precision boost overdrive
@fossil cedar got it, that looks doable
well i usually dont run at the full 4.85 ghz, usually do 4.8ghz at 1.4v
isnt 1.4v unsafe on a 5600x
eh, the older cpus yes, but the newer 5th gen need a stupid amount of power to em
so to that i say yes and no
You could also do this to save a buck
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dcTD3y
Nope
oh pato
i havent seen benches
how big of a difference is 3200c16 vs 3600c16 on 12th gen?
then whats the recommended voltage for 4.8ghz on all cores then
Don't manual oc Ryzen 5000 for daily , recommended is pbo, it will only use safe voltage and will turbo to like 5ghz
Believe so

@fossil cedar so looks like since i have the h60 cooler, it doesnt support the lga1700
Ohh it's only a 120mm radiator? Yikes you don't want to use that thing to cool a new high end cpu anyway
120mm wont even cool a 5600x with pbo
Reason: Bad word usage
@fossil cedar alright so at least a 240
@normal dawn I'd do this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JpTHNc
Well depends on the cpu, with the 12600k and no overclocking a good air cooler is all that's needed
120mms are nothing close to 240mm's in cooling capacity
120mm rads are similar to a 30$ tower cooler
@fossil cedar gotcha, it just came with the pc, i figured i would need to upgrade the CPU and mobo eventually, just really didnt know where to start
No worries
I’m not sure if it’s in all the way, I don’t want to put too much pressure
The side closest to the top of the case looks a bit loose
Oh no
Thats not good
Ur gonna degrade ur chip to death at 1.4v under load
You can put a lot of force on 24 pin it's just a pita
Wait I did it!!
I have to get an argb controller for my aio bc I only had one rgb prong for some reason
But my fans aren’t spinning
Okay I got my aio fans working but the first one keeps stopping
Sounds like something is stuck in there.., I’m gonna see what’s up
Wait I think I fixed it
How do I change which hard drive everything downloads to by default?
Nevermind, I figured it out
I need some help, my computer was running fine earlier, I installed a new aio liquid cooler, I had a fan prior, now the motherboard, a asus, only stays on a orange light labeled DRAM
Hey is there a motherboard that can be use for steaming without a graphic card?
P.S. The pc will have a elgato in it
Thinking about putting together my first build and would love some input:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
GPU: RTX 1660 Super (already owned)
Mobo: B550 (not sure whether I'll go with regular or elite)
Drive: 1 TB Sata Samsung Drive (I think 970)
Ram: 2x 8 Gb Corsair 3000 mhz sticks (already owned)
PSU: Corsair 650W Gold
Case: Rosewell ATX Mid Tower
Total cost to me as is is about $550, budgeted $600 in case I need something else/more.
ill make a build list for you
12th gen is better value currently
ok for whatever reason pcp wont let me pick this case rn
other than that, here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8LKBPX
if you want to lower the price get the 500gb version of the mp33
I definitely like the case, but I'm curious if I need an NVME when I already have my SATA 1TB. Also, I've never done anything with intel on a desktop before, and the cpu you recommended benchmarks below the 5600x. Is that gonna be an issue? Or is it more about value per dollar?
if you alr have an ssd theres no point to the ssd
i wasnt aware you had one already
11400 is also below the 5600x
if you want 5600x level performance, youll be looking for 12400f and b660 prime
but i dont think thatll fit in your budget with a decent gpu
I already have the GPU thankfully, and I can't believe I forgot the ssd lol
6500xt?
1660 super
oh great
wait
im an idiot
just got you confused with a person i helped in #cases-psu-and-cooling
Ah, gotcha
12400f is not below a 5600x
it actually slightly beats it
We compared 6-core Intel Core i5 12400F (2.5 GHz) against AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (3.7 GHz) in games and benchmarks. Find out which CPU has better...
better single core anyways
slightkly worse mc
I looked at passmark. I guess for the newbie is single core more important than multi core?
single core is more important for gaming yes
and theyre basically equivelant
12400f is just cheaper
one minute
my list is messed up now
And the ASUS board you reccomended works with the 12400f?
I'm not sure what c16 means, all I know is that my ram is 3000 mhz. Is that alright?
My current motherboard is throttling it at like 2700 so it will be an upgrade regardless lol
are you keeping your current case?
wait
how much of that build do you already own
gpu, ssd, ram
anything else?
No. I plan to put the prebuilt back together and sell it for like $250. I own those three as I added them in, hence my current franken-build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/74TBPX id do this then
id sell the ram as well
i believe thats everything
correct me if im wrong
I think the ripjaws ram is cheaper than my corsair ram at 3000 lol, is that just brand difference?
I'm assuming I can pick up thermal paste and a grounding bracelet cheap?
corsair ram is normally bad, youre lucky if it can run xmp
and 3000mhz is very slow for 12th gen or any amd cpu
wait
i forgot a cooler lol
Assuming intel doesn't come with them?
i think this one does, but it is nowhere near good enough
it might as well not have one
im unsure on the cooler, because its not letting me add the one i normally use for some reason https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bmzYrD
but it should be fine for a 12400f
aight im out
dm me or ask here if you have any other questions
Can someone help me with this sound? I can’t tell if something is hitting against the top radiator fan or if the fan is defected
I’m going to try and unscrew it to see
It isn’t like that the first few seconds I boot it up
Sounds like the same sound my psu was making
Oohhh
But it’s the top radiator fan
Ohhh okie
I’ll check the screws
Oh wow it stopped when I took out the screws 😂
I guess it was in too tight
Thanks
Is this temp ok
It’s like
3am
I turned on my pc on accident and the bios booted up, I was gonna set it up in the morning but then I saw all this
Yes temps are good
Oh oki oki
Idling a little over room temp, as it should be
:D! Sweet
I was going to do the bios stuff before I download OS, would that be good?
Sure. You probably want to save overclocking for after OS install but anything else you need to do in bios is fine.
Ohhhh alright sweet
Anyone in here have experience with the Phanteks P500A? I'm building a PC for the first time, and I'm intimidated by all the d-rgb fans for the case and the 360 AIO's RGB fans.
It comes with splitters if that's what you're worried about
And a rgb controller
@hard badge you know better lol
@hard badge they sent it back in a generic box with a crap ton of bubble wrap
the packaging was fine, I just miss the gpu box cause it's pretty
I kinda collect boxes and have a whole wall of them
and the 3090 box was the centerpiece lol
Nah i don't
That's lame
Yeah I'd be pissed if they kept my box. That's why I always read their instructions to the letter. If they say "original packaging" that's the only time I'm shipping in the box. I even checked the wording of my smart tv, it says "well packaged to avoid damage" so yay I don't need to keep that monster box.
they did ask for original packaging if possible
I didn't really wanna risk shipping damage tbh, the graphics card is more important than the box
I've asked them to give me a box back as well as reimbursement for the thermal pads if possible
That's an extra layer of BS then if they asked for the box. Hope they don't just ignore you.
But hey you have a 3090 now
well
they did replace a 3090 I physically broke with a working 3090 for free
I can't complain
yeah
it's also a pretty good sample I think
I hope it's better than mine was at least. I somehow ended up in 65th place out of 57 on hwbot.
Currently I'm benching with yolo voltages on my R7 2700. I managed to bend the pins back but now SVI2 doesn't read correctly. Hwinfo read 750W during R23 🔥
I figure its usefulness has ended so I'm shoving 1.45v down the core. Shockingly I'm still under 70C.
uh
No don't worry, I've got a VRM fan. They're steady at 55C. When it dies I'm making sure the board lives.
I've snagged a couple 🏆 already
2 mins of premature silence for the 2700
Honestly the way its going it may just live long enough for me to get bored and go back to 5800X
No signs of slowing down yet and it can hold 4250 all core in most benches. Stock boost is 4100 single core.
my 11400 slowed down after unlocking power limits
Probably thermal limit
nope i didnt throttle
i was monitoring temps the entire time
never went up above 90
and HWiNFO shows TJmax throttling and when you clock down
If it's getting anywhere near 90 then it's throttling
not according to hwinfo
Unless you've got an all core oc
i literally disabled allllll power limits with xtu lol
Ok, what about prochot? (Intel has that right?)
Also is this on a dedicated bench os or your daily os?
Background tasks can contribute
daily
isnt prochot for laptops tho
You're within margin of error then
i should do a bench os tbh

….
