just see if something changes

barren flame
#

Will leave the pc without the battery for 15 minutes

#

Or some

#

Last time i left it like this for half a hour

little osprey
#

HI I build my motherbord it turn on but every usb not work and noting is on the screen

obsidian wigeon
#

What motherboard?

#

You meant your rig?

#

Anyway, where did you plug the monitor into?

#

And what cpu does it have?

barren flame
#

Ok, it's been half a hour since I unplugged bios battert

#

Ram lighted instantly after plugging into the power

#

Resetting CMOS again

#

10 seconds after turning on the psu

#

Ram started to light

#

PC itself is off

#

Ram just lights up

#

Well yet again no effect

fossil cedar
#

@barren flame try reseat your ram

barren flame
#

U mean place it in different slots?

fossil cedar
#

just take it out and put it back in first

barren flame
#

Can I go just with 1 stick?

fossil cedar
#

Try with 1 stick if you want but i would just take out and put back in first

barren flame
#

K reseated ran

#

Ram

#

And launching pc

#

Now my cooler does not light up too

#

And after reset it did

#

I don't kniw

little osprey
#

@barren flame what were you trying to do before the computer stopped working. And can you describe the issue for me?

little osprey
#

bruh.

cosmic wraith
#

@bitter mason Your pc is looking nice!

cerulean root
#

I just seen a news feed or something saying that new world is breaking gpus, does that only apply with ultra grapic settings or if i go on high/medium will i be fine?

#

Or is it a 4k thing? Is 1080p good still?

vague oracle
#

Mostly 3080-3090

stoic island
#

Saw new world also killing some AMD cards

stoic island
fossil cedar
#

It's killing any cards lol

jagged hill
#

I ultimately decided to build that HTPC for my dad's bedroom.

jagged ember
#

something about the game causing the card to push more frames than it physically can handle or something

#

and then something on the card goes boom

#

or something like that lol

jagged hill
#

I'd give him the upcoming build on the house.

#

He's helped me with a lot of financial stuffs even recently (I'm 24 for reference), so it's the least I can do.

#

He wanted it as a work station that can also play movies.

#

Once I give him this, my pops can put away that old Dell dino his former employee gave him.

potent portal
jagged hill
#

Have any of you built PCs for or with family members who cared to learn about this?

fossil cedar
#

I'd drop to 70% to be safe if you were to risk it tbh

jagged hill
#

Whether younger or older...

jagged hill
#

Nice!

#

Y'know, I'm honestly surprised my dad was willing to appreciate my new skills with this.

#

Even with the huge age and cultural differences.

#

b00mer age but not mindset if you will

potent portal
#

You don't need a powerful gpu for a htpc, so at least you don't need to worry about that. Maybe a ryzen 5600g/5700g would do tbh.

jagged hill
#

I ultimately decided against a video card for this.

#

And I'm working with a Ryzen 3 with integrated, assuming I can find one.

#

The only thing I'm worried about is a clever chassis.

potent portal
#

That'll work for low end, sure

jagged hill
#

Yeah it's meant to be a work station that can do home theater.

#

But not one that always has to run movies.

#

My pops has the streaming on his Roku TV if he wants movies.

#

I'm just happy to give him something useful.

potent portal
#

Most workstations aren't used for heavy tasks, mostly office and browsing, so that processor shouldn't be a problem

jagged hill
#

His main tasks will be office and browsing.

fossil cedar
#

I'd recommend an intel cpu then tbh

jagged hill
#

The mobo i have happens to prefer AMD.

wispy matrix
#

What mobo?

jagged hill
#

That's the big reason I'm going for the Ryzen family.

fossil cedar
#

If they don't need vega graphics then intel would be better choice

#

Ohh

jagged hill
#

Lemme check.

#

It's that B450 micro ATX that fried a few weeks ago and came back from MSI Friday, rember?

#

I think I discussed that story in Newegg's Discord.

#

This is the first time I can say I'm actually working with what I have since I've accumulated newer parts.

#

And not parts from before 2014.

cerulean root
potent portal
#

Those are always the most fun builds for me, just the old scrap parts getting new life and purpose

jagged hill
#

Yeah, the spare mobo was got me into this.

#

If it were Intel, I'd get those CPU types.

fossil cedar
jagged hill
#

If my dad uses office, is an SSD still a good idea?

fossil cedar
#

Definitely

jagged hill
#

He might appreciate the speed?

fossil cedar
#

Ssd is a must

wispy matrix
#

Yeah you’ll be fine

jagged hill
#

SSD for OS, HDD for stuff?

fossil cedar
#

Hdds for Windows suck

jagged hill
#

Does Linux have the same issue with HDD?

fossil cedar
#

Can put stuff on ssd too

#

Windows doesn't have an issue with hdds?

wispy matrix
jagged hill
#

Wait, what kind of Linux user would not use an SSD?

#

lmao

wispy matrix
#

And that will be fine

jagged hill
#

I have a 240GB for OS that my dad can use.

#

It's SATA unfort...

fossil cedar
#

Ssds are the bare minimum for os these days

#

Sata is good still

stoic island
#

Sata SSD still fine

jagged hill
#

Are HDD useless now?

#

or yet

stoic island
#

HDDs still useful for mass storage

fossil cedar
#

Sata to nvme is nowhere as big as hdd to ssd

wispy matrix
#

No they are decent but good for bigger storage

jagged hill
#

imagine an NVMe HDD

#

oh no

fossil cedar
stoic island
#

No reason for that to happen

jagged hill
#

i wasn't being serious about an m.2 hdd

stoic island
#

HDDs just can't really saturate bandwidth of NVMe

jagged hill
#

hence the oh no

stoic island
#

I mean, you could run hdds off pcie slots if you want

#

Just won't saturate

jagged hill
#

wait those exist?

stoic island
#

Converters exist

jagged hill
#

i joke about something only to find out they exist

#

my pops won't need a huge amount of storage

stoic island
#

Tbh there's m.2 to sata too afaik

jagged hill
#

wait what

stoic island
#

So you can do a pcie card with m.2 slots and then converter to HDDs

wispy matrix
#

And a 240gb ssd

jagged hill
#

I can get him one later

#

i have the 240gb ssd

wispy matrix
#

They are really cheap

jagged hill
#

for os

fossil cedar
#

I mean depending on the use case 240gb ssd is enough

jagged hill
#

documents

stoic island
#

But yea nowadays 500gb SSD for 50$ is commonplace either way

jagged hill
#

of words

#

not much in the way of pictures, music, or video

fossil cedar
#

And 1tb ssds are usually meh, 10$ more and a 2tb hdd you have

jagged hill
#

that's a small price jump

#

nice

wispy matrix
stoic island
#

I mean

fossil cedar
stoic island
#

Yes I mean if it's not enough, cheap addition

jagged hill
#

yeah the parts i already have are the b450 amd mobo, 240gb ssd, and wifi card, although a 500w psu and 16gb ram are coming soon

#

would 16gb be enough for office?

#

or too much

wispy matrix
#

That would be fine

fossil cedar
#

16gb plenty

#

Nice amount

jagged hill
#

maybe he can settle for 8?

#

i can give him the full 16 i ordered

#

i have 16 in my main build

#

tbh my only big concern is making my own chassis

fossil cedar
#

Yeah don't run 3 stick of ram

jagged hill
#

yeah that'd be odd

#

so regarding case, i was deciding between getting one and disguising the build as an object in my pops' room

#

i'm not sure if he's the right person to be cheeky towards though

potent portal
earnest olive
#

you have a laptop with more than 2 sodimm slots?

jagged ember
#

Thats insane

little osprey
#

^

desert gulch
earnest olive
#

ball grid array to sodimm adapter

desert gulch
#

Yes

earnest olive
#

who needs a cpu anyways

desert gulch
#

CPU socket splitter

#

So you can run ram and CPU off CPU socket

potent portal
#

The future of computing right there

desert gulch
#

Yup

potent portal
#

Directly attached memory

desert gulch
#

Yeah

potent portal
#

DIMM slots right on the cpu

desert gulch
#

Someday CPUs will have an l3 cache of like 16 gigs lol

#

So you won't even need ram

#

Just use cache as da ram

#

You'd have basically 0 latency since it's be right there

#

Now I just gotta patent my idea so nobody steals it

potent portal
#

Lol good luck with that, it needs to be more than an idea for them to enforce the patent

#

At least a rudimentary diagram of how everything connects

desert gulch
#

Nah man we Gucci

desert gulch
#

I should make a company called 13900k so Intel can't name their next CPU that

#

Lol

potent portal
#

They'll buy a patent from you if you do something like that, as long as you're not too greedy. Get too greedy and they'll decide it's cheaper to rename.

earnest olive
#

they could just make a new line... successor to Core... maybe they could call it... Core 2

little osprey
#

Hmm yes

little osprey
#

Core 2 octa

potent portal
#

Core 2 quadcopter

little osprey
#

Core 2 your mom

desert gulch
#

Done

#

RGB ram on cpu

little osprey
#

Uhh

desert gulch
#

Give me patent now

little osprey
#

Could I get some measurements with that diagram please

desert gulch
#

It's ddr7

little osprey
#

And some dotted lines to know what's behind what

desert gulch
#

Classified

#

I'm under nda rn cause this is ddr7

little osprey
#

Oh alright hmm

potent portal
#

Hmm sure but where are the interconnect points? And what cooling solution do you propose?

earnest olive
#

and then maybe they could replace the i3/i5/i7 branding with E for Economy and Q for Quality... so we could get a new Core 2 Q6600 or E8400

desert gulch
earnest olive
#

really groundbreaking stuff I know

desert gulch
#

Yup

little osprey
#

About about we come up with a new transistor gate design

#

Let's do it guys

#

Let's make ourselves billionaires

little osprey
#

Screw fins, let's make it original

#

Like..

#

Uhh

#

Fin... FET

#

Oh wait

clever eagle
#

spikes lmao

little osprey
#

Ah yes

earnest olive
#

bowser cpu cooler

potent portal
#

We could make it interconnected, like some sort of brain-type or mesh connection, what would we call that? Neural? Fabric?

earnest olive
#

he starts breathing fire if CPU temp exceeds 90c

clever eagle
wispy matrix
#

oops wrong chat

little osprey
#

How about one of those delta 1U fans strapped onto a copper heatsink that looks like a soda can

#

And the housing for the heatsink can be an actual soda can

#

Easy

potent portal
#

The vacuum cleaner sounding ones?

earnest olive
#

don't worry it's just orange and red LEDs in a diffuser not real fire

little osprey
#

The plane sounding ones

potent portal
#

Ooh so the 12k

earnest olive
#

if you want real fire just grab an 11900K and run prime95 avx512

little osprey
#

How about helicopter blades that attach to a laptop, so it hovers off the table so the fans can get proper airflpw

#

I'm a legit engineer rn

#

Where's my money?

clever eagle
potent portal
#

They put it in the housing for the helicopter motor, you have to grab it while it's running though

little osprey
#

Hmm

clever eagle
little osprey
#

good idea

#

that would be more effective

clever eagle
#

its also really thick and it will also be a heatsink

little osprey
#

to power the motor for it, we could use an NRHA dragster engine

#

that'll get it spinning

clever eagle
#

yes

#

<@&872830304258248705> happy birthday
as it might be your last

clever eagle
little osprey
#

wow that lawnmower outside sure is loud

clever eagle
#

lol

little osprey
#

there's a cricket in my classroom that wont shut the freak up

#

not what i want to hear at 9:30pm in an otherwise quiet building

#

🔫

clever eagle
#

lmao

little osprey
#

nice itt stopped

clever eagle
#

yay

little osprey
#

seems legit

clever eagle
#

JUMP

little osprey
#

i just saw a huge spider in my classroom scurry away into the hardware shelf as soon as i looked at it 💀

#

Wow guys this PC has ddr15! uh uh

#

Is building a pc hard?

#

It looks hard

#

it isnt hard, you just need to have a little bit of prior knowledge, like what your parts are, and just how to put them together. that's pretty much it. honestly, the hardest part of the process of putting together a custom build is figuring out which parts to get, and there's plenty of people to help with that so it isnt even that bad.

#

ive been tinkering with hardware since i was around 13 years old and nothings ever gone bad

#

Ok thx for the advice

#

what kind of PC do you want to put together?

#

R9/3080

stoic island
#

just read the manual and you'll be good 95% of the time

little osprey
#

Ok

little osprey
#

Oh should I get an ifixit kit or do I need just a normal screwdriver

#

you can usually just get away with using a couple different sized philips heads that you probably have sitting around the house

#

ifixits are pretty much only needed for stuff like board-level repair and laptop work

#

Oh ok thx I thought i needed a whole pc screwdriver set

#

nah

jagged ember
#

pc building is basically adult legos

#

with a philips head screwdriver

#

well, two

little osprey
#

Yea I've heard that analogy used lots of times lol

jagged ember
#

one big and one small

#

some cable management

#

making sure you don't crush your cpu putting it in the socket

#

stuff like that

#

it's not difficult once you're familiar with how the basics go

#

except when it comes to amd's stock coolers

stoic island
#

all you gotta do is follow the manual

jagged ember
#

eh, fair point

stoic island
#

issues come from when you don't follow the manual

#

if you oversimplify it

jagged ember
#

cable management i like cause it look good

stoic island
#

you forget things

jagged ember
#

but yes, follow manual

#

good point of reference for where things are and what goes in them

stoic island
#

many a times of people doing stuff plugging front io into a usb header comes from just simplifying things too much

#

you still gotta check manual for things

#

even though it's easy

jagged ember
#

front io is

#

annoying

#

its easy but it's not simple

stoic island
#

manual also usually has stuff that you need to do in order

#

so you won't forget to do stuff like eps12v

jagged ember
#

true

#

well, his time is coming

#

it is not soon

little osprey
#

the cricket is being annoying again

#

i wana fight it

#

anyway...

#

I tested the board, thankfully it works

#

The PSU to the left is bad though unfortunately

jagged ember
#

go find the cricket and ask it to be quiet

little osprey
#

it wont listen

little osprey
#

what about it lol

#

its not the same PSU if thats what you mean

clever eagle
#

the price and wattage

little osprey
#

oh LOL

#

oh yea, one of the SSDs i tested has windows 8 on it Sick

stoic island
#

time for windows 9

#

for 0.5$ off ebay

clever eagle
#

lol

#

i bet i can find it

and aliexpress lol

Hello all. i have a question. having a hard time making the decision due to the crazy prices this past year on GPUs etc. so i have a more than capable pc for gaming. can run anything at descent frames. id say if 10 is the best gaming pc made and 1 is you trying to game on the original mac , mine is about a 7.2 for context. i currently have a 2070 super and looking to upgrade. i have money to buy whatever i want (as far as gpus go lol) but i also want to stay disciplined in my finance which i always strive to. without paying dumb amounts , what would your advice be as the next GPU i should go after to buy where i will notice a definitive difference in FPS etc etc. like i said i ave a 2070 super and dont just want a 5 fps increase. any thoughts?

sorry for the long post ...

obsidian wigeon
#

A 3070 is your best bet

#

But it's up to your budget lel

#

It's hard to get gpus at msrp atm

little osprey
obsidian wigeon
#

^

little osprey
#

Ive been sticking with my 1070, and Im just gonna keep waiting till GPU prices go back to normal, even though I have a 4k monitor and could use an upgrade lol

earnest olive
#

just don't upgrade

#

wait until 4000

#

you'd have to go up to at least 3080 for it to be a meaningful upgrade

#

and those are going for $1300+

#

LHR

clever eagle
night wedge
little osprey
#

yea you really dont need a new gpu

#

try to limit the temptations a bit lol

night wedge
#

haha good advice. thanks Dad.

earnest olive
#

"msrp"

#

what's that?

little osprey
#

you're welcome lol

earnest olive
#

meanwhile me

#

upgrades from 3600x to 5600x to 5800x just so i can get something that doesn't lose silicon lottery

#

wants to upgrade 3080 because it lost silicon lottery

little osprey
#

I used my gpu upgrade money for a 3900x lol

#

Came from a 2600

earnest olive
#

3900x over 5800x?

#

why?

#

not a gamer?

little osprey
#

Nah I don't play too many games, and it's not like I'd get the benefit from it anyway. Plus I got the 3900x for a good price

#

Got it 2nd hand

earnest olive
#

i got my 5800x for a cool 300

little osprey
#

I had planned to use my system to run a couple servers, although I ended up getting a separate system instead

clever eagle
#

we got the microsoft case

little osprey
#

Suck PC bro.

#

Sick* lmao

clever eagle
#

this game is half a gig

ionic osprey
#

Deepcool gammaxx 400s is good for i5 10400f?

obsidian wigeon
#

Yep

#

But I suggest gettin se 224 xt instead

little osprey
obsidian wigeon
#

ye it's dirt cheap n good for the price

little osprey
#

yea, i used it on e5 2678v3's and it handled them no problem

clever eagle
potent portal
clever eagle
#

its the TELETUBBIES game

potent portal
#

Yeah? And games from 1998 filled a whole CD easily

clever eagle

im suprised it takes up that much space

little osprey
#

teletubbies genuinely gave me nightmares when i was little.

lol

ionic osprey
ionic osprey

Price 11400f same R5 3600 in here

clever eagle
#

which country

#

@ionic osprey

marble hedge
#

replaced case on my build because this looks so much more clean

tight sorrel
#

looks good

little osprey
#

11400 disappeared completely somehowuh

marble hedge
#

Its the cpu to get so

#

Yeah just kinda poofed

fossil cedar
#

Was a great value cpu

little osprey
#

Yeah

#

It's not even dropping anywhere

#

It completely disappeared

fossil cedar
#

I've heard you can get them in some irl shops but idk

little osprey
#

Actually 10600k is nice alternative too

marble hedge
#

It is

little osprey
#

Similar performance for similar price tho

#

You can use it with b560mobo or z490 for overclock it

fossil cedar
fossil cedar
little osprey
#

Yeah but z490 does

#

10400 is slower than 11400

#

But 10600k is kinda similar Intel

#

I saw nice deals for 10600k like 180-190bucks

marble hedge
#

The difference between 10400 and 11400 isn't enough to warrant dismissing the 10400

barren flame
# little osprey <@365922728407990272> what were you trying to do before the computer stopped wor...

Before my pc stopped working, I was trying to enable secure boot. Because of my idiocy I had to missclick something, and I accidentally enabled platform key bind. Only thing I pressed when binding it was enter. After that my pc had just restarted. When I tried to boot into windows or even bios, pc wasn't giving any output on my monitor. I tried to CLR CMOS, unplug the battery. None of methods worked.

#

Yea don't question my stupidity.

#

@little osprey

marble hedge
#

Let's see if i can't get another 19500

#

Not gonna try for the 20k again but

#

That one was fun

#

Got 19460

#

Alright let's see if we can't do 1 insane run

fossil cedar
#

Just pay the extra 20 for a 5600x at that point

#

And have cheaper board

marble hedge
#

@olive cypress ?

olive cypress
#

What?

marble hedge
#

what was the wuuut about xD

olive cypress
#

The rear intake fan
wuuut

#

Never saw a rear intake fan in a build 😅

marble hedge
#

Well ot has 2 exhausts. And you should pay attention! I've seen Linus even do it XD

#

Works amazing

#

Its how I got a 20k in 3D Mark Timespy with 1200rpm fans xD

olive cypress
#

Ooo noice

marble hedge
#

Silent as can be gaming

#

So the idea is heat rises

#

And you bring in air from the front, and the rear across the VRM area

#

I run a 5.3 oc for my 10900k thanks to that

#

I'm a personal believer of if there is a fan slot, it should be populated with a fan shrug lower temps means better performance

worn wave
#

Depends on the case and location

marble hedge
#

True. But otherwise I'd have a billion fans laying around as well.

#

I've thought about making a bracket and setting up a wall of rgb fans for fun 😅

worn wave
#

I have stacks of Fractal Design fans

marble hedge
#

I actually finally burned through all but 5 of my fans

#

Been building for a bunch of people who couldn't afford it especially in this gpu climate

#

If I'm not building I'm modifying for someone. I get to drive a lot of different cpus and gpus that way

#

I had to take 2 sticks out of my computer for my wife though her ram didn't clear the aio

#

I guess I'll get by off 64gb ram

#

Ocs higher now at least

tight sorrel
marble hedge
#

Do you have aio up top top?

tight sorrel
#

no. Running stock AMD cooler

marble hedge
#

Ahh

#

It works best with aio/ fans at the top

#

Thay are used for exhaust

tight sorrel
#

but I think I got too many fans. Running Lancool ii mesh, have put fans everywhere (front, top, back, bottom)

marble hedge
#

Lemme see

tight sorrel
#

with all that, things are not as cool as id like

marble hedge
#

Ahh darn i forgot I flipped my back last week during testing no wonder temps seemed off today

#

All well fix it when I get up

tight sorrel
#

not shown, 2 exhaust fans in ceiling

marble hedge
#

Oof so first

#

Bottom fans bad

tight sorrel
#

the ones I got set up for exhaust are some old Lian Li DC fans. will take them out, and move the ones on the bottom to the top, and flip the back fan. see how that works

marble hedge
#

You ever stick your head out a window of a car before

tight sorrel
marble hedge
#

Can't breath very well right

#

Thatsbwhat you are doing to your gpu right there

tight sorrel
#

oh, for real?

#

I thought I was feeding it some fresh air

fossil cedar
marble hedge
#

If you want to get used out of them, flip em

#

With your set up exhaust bottom and top

fossil cedar
marble hedge
#

Its mesh underneath

tight sorrel
#

see the light coming through?

tight sorrel
marble hedge
#

See that way you are exhausting the air from the cooler instead of pushing the air the cooler is trying to cool the gpu with out of it

fossil cedar
marble hedge
#

And you are providing the air channels to keep air flowing

tight sorrel
#

Sweet. will do so. Thanks for the help

marble hedge
#

Mhm

#

Theoretically

#

That should help

#

Even the stock cooler

tight sorrel
#

AIO is planned for the future.

marble hedge
#

Aio helps tons

#

I use the evga clcs myself they work amazingly

#

Best performance of all the aios I've used

tight sorrel
#

not available here, gonna go for the Gallahad 240. cos I like things to match

marble hedge
#

Gotcha

#

Just make sure to do even mounting pressure

tight sorrel
#

How would one go about doing that. asking for a friend

marble hedge
#

Tbh it takes some experimentation.

#

I've not used thay particular aio

#

But like the coolermaster one my wife has? For amd it uses the amd mounting hardware so makes it easier

#

Most of them have 4 post though

#

And its not always about just tightening it down as much as possible all the time

stiff shale

Hey guys. I got a GTX 1070 FE from my boss who was upgrading the parts in his son's pc. It works great but I would like to replace it with a RTX 3070 one day, so I put the 1070 up on FACEBOOK Marketplace for about $460.

I received two offers so far. One person wants to trade a RTX 2060 Super. Someone else is willing to trade a GTX 1050 ti and pay $160.

Are either of these good trades? Is the 2060s to good to be true? I am kind a curious why he would trade a 2060s for my card so I'll probably ask him about that. Please give me your thoughts on which trade is better.

With 8 core Ryzen that's perfect and an aio truthfully won't help unless ocing

yo dont think 64GB is enough?

marble hedge

Because 64gb is actually quite nice but 128 I've had some wild times with

fossil cedar
#

64gb plentyyyyy

tight sorrel
#

but yes, the fact that I only have 2 sticks, and 2 slots open bothers me to no end.

Wtc yall doing with 64gb

marble hedge

Think how I feel

fossil cedar
marble hedge

I had to put 2 of my sticks in my wife's pc

I'm down to 64 QQ

i dont even need 64gb rn for my MC servers lol

fossil cedar

Heck editing on an 8c 64gb still enough

marble hedge

Not if you are modifying a minecraft server on a mass scale

Thats what they said about 640k at one time too. and see where we are now?

Then no such thing as too much

fossil cedar
little osprey

Yea, I have a 1U rack I use for my servers

#

i got it 2nd hand off ebay for a really good price

#

100 bucks for a poweredge r620

#

granted, the hardware it came with isnt amazing, but it's mainly the platform i wanted

marble hedge
#

Also I had other reasons for having 128gb ram

little osprey
#

and as a flex

fossil cedar
#

Simple as

little osprey
#

having an HEDT board with all 8 ram slots filled is a nice thing to look at.

#

a lot of gamers still use 8gb

fossil cedar
#

Usually cuz oem box pc lol

little osprey
#

yes😐

marble hedge
#

I didn't say he NEEDED IT

#

BUT

tight sorrel
#

if god didnt want you to fill ram slots, why did he give you 4 of them?

marble hedge
#

Daily driving it and having 98gb cached does make things pretty snappy

fossil cedar
marble hedge
#

😋

fossil cedar
#

64gb is already very very premium

marble hedge
#

I mean my tower cost me around 6k...

little osprey
marble hedge
#

Im not losing sleep over it

jagged ember
#

My 16gb of ram is real snappy as well

tight sorrel
#

ok since you guys are all up in arms about it, I actually did have only 16GB, corsair, and I put the fake RAM to fillt he slots. is that acceptable?

jagged ember
#

Usually also max at 13 or so

#

Dummy ram modules are fine lol

thats not really my point but ok...

I dont think 128GB of ram is flexing.

marble hedge

256 is

jagged ember

Seriously, 8gb is fine for gamers

#

You don't see people with older systems not running games

tight sorrel

I mean in the grand scheme of things. RAM is a reltively cheap component

for some reason my college's PC hardware room only has ddr3 in 2GB dimms

marble hedge

yea it's weird lol

#

yea there's a room full of nice 3d printers at my colelge

its kinda not funny anymore

marble hedge
#

Not the amount of ram

#

You were the only ones hung up on it and it was a really easy troll

little osprey
#

I tested one of the x58 boards that was sitting around on a shelf, which had bent pins. i ended up fixing it and i tested it yesterday and it worked

#

Im pretty much the only one that touches any of the stuff

marble hedge
#

Can't help but indulge myself when people get stuck on something

little osprey
#

the hardware sits in a software engineering room, and software engineering dont tend to touch hardware for some reason it seems lmao

#

I took a picture of it

#

And I tested this z97 board with a 4770

#

And yes, that's an amd cooler on the x58 board

#

some old raidmax PX700AC 80+ bronze or something

#

The one sitting to the left was actually bad despite seeming like it rarely got used

marble hedge
#

One less hater

little osprey
#

It seemed like it kept shorting itself

#

oh yea, i also tested a GTX 480 that was sitting in a neglected box, a 770, and a 570

tight sorrel
#

What Gigabyte case is that? Looks premium!

little osprey
#

also yea, pretty much all the hardware there is relatively old. the newest thing they have there is a x99 board and 5930k

#

case kekw

#

yea

#

especially sad that none of it even gets used LOL

#

the stuff has been sitting in exactly the same position since 2 years ago when i took a tour of the building

#

it's literally exactly the same, i took a photo of it back then and compared it to now

#

yikes

#

that reminds me

#

there's no ddr4 anywhere to be found to use with the x99 board so i cant test it lmao

marble hedge
#

Oof

Anyways back to AIOs

I wanted to know what your suggestions for MOBO, case, and case fans might be as well as any other comments or suggestions to maximize performance within the budget. This is a PC he wants to build relatively soon so everything needs to be readily available.
