or they could just short it right?
yea
You can short it.
screwdriver trick
I did that to mine when testing it outside of case
gotta love it
Touch a metal screw driver between the two pins.
I don't have a power button my pc currently lol
I start it up with a screw driver every morning
he made ohms law
lmao
smh
which makes it impossible to do cool stuff
like shock yourself on a car battery
smh i hate ohm
I got my 45$ ram to 3800 cl15

And it’s stable 1.4v
Nice
i cant seem to find “PWR_SW” anywhere
Motherboard model?
^
PWR SW on the connector from the case
AH
Do they say anything on the back when you flip it?
^
Yes, that
^
XP farming is going to bite you really hard here really quick
^

why lol
Because I tried typing it faster
I technically farm but I farm by actually helping people here lol
but racer already answered his question.
mhmm
vintage how is robo doggo doing?
luv u guys
pog looks sick bro
def fin drop some pics when i finish this bih
yeah id love to see it
My pc won’t post, gpu works fine tested on another pc, ram glows up but not sure, and the rest turns on
what cpu and mobo
5 3600 and B450 Steel Legend
any debug lights on?
I’m not sure if the mobo has debug lights because i don’t see anything
Steel legend has no debug led or flashback
that's sad
@heavy herald any chance you could get another board to test?
Any b550 board
the B450 Steel Legend had the same VRMs as AM3 era boards
i have my friends
iirc
Can you slap all of your parts other than the mobo into their PC?
assuming board is am4
yes
they got a 5 3600
and b450 aorus pro wifi with debug
but i’m gonna try ram first
my pc kept restarting before
Why not just a surge protector strip
is this one good? Belkin 12-Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector, 8ft Cord(3,940 Joules), Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J2EN4S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RDBZ80K8B7FDMB05CGX3
can you link me a good one? under $35 or sum
So having trouble installing Debian keep trying to use full install but keep getting issue of no internet connection. Just built a new computer with msi mag b460m mortar motherboard. Have ethernet cable connected but not able to connect to internet. No idea what drivers to choose? Any advice
I have a good one but it cost 90 bucks
Its battery and surge prot with 8 outlets
is the one i linked good?
Yup
Hello everyone! I have great news, I’m finally building and I’m almost done. But I’m stuck. There’s a few cords that the instructions didn’t mention. Can you help me out?
This first cord is from the chassis. I think it’s for the fans but it doesn’t connect to the motherboard. The book for the chassis didn’t talk about it.
One is front end, the other is the back end.
what nerds wanna help with a pc i shipped out recetly
haha Im on my last straw and i wanna hurt myself
Is vintage racer and mr1111 online tonight?
Yes, if you got a modular power supply there will be a cord with an end that fits one side of that cable and it almost certainly used to power fans these days
Yup I found it. Thank you so much!
Can you figure this one out too? It comes from my cpu cooler. The kraken z63
Can you be more specific on the question? Being vague doesn't get you help as much as being more detailed
ah yes i forgot
so im a flipper and dela with torubleshooting often but this one stumped me so it of course worked before shipment and now doesnt turn on to continue the leds on the mb light up but the power button doesnt work we tested the power connectors and using a screwdriver but it wont turn on
That's the fan controller right? Looks like it's to power the fans
Did you use instapak to secure the components?
The fans plugged into a big cord.
The fan controller would use the extra power direct from the power supply so that it doesn't rely on the motherboard, since those can be limited in power
The one I’m pointing to this that end.
Found it in the manual, it's the RGB
Ooh it’s that
Do I need a kit for that?
whats a good psu to get for a 3080ti?
to use for oc a cpu and gpu?
If you shipped it in one piece then it's possible a component came loose, usually the graphics card
It's optional to connect other devices that are compatible with NZXT
Ok, so I can just leave it hanging since I don’t have those?
Should be fine, manual specifies it's optional
I wasn't aware the 3080 ti came out
Thank you for helping me with the mystery cords. I’m almost done.
My 3080 fe recommends 750 psu.
General consensus on here is 850 watts for the 3080 due to extreme power spikes that cause protections to trip, but he specified 3080 ti which is not released
then what would be a good psu to buy for a full tower case
i am running a 750 right now and i have had it for over 5 years
so i need to get a backup as a just in case
Due to capacitor aging you can expect in about 5 years of average use a power supply will lose 10-20% of its potential power, so you'll want a new one for sure if you're planning on a 3080. It would almost certainly trigger shutoffs when the GPU spikes.
Pretty much any A tier power supply from this list 850 Watts or higher will be good, even overclocking
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40/
PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 14.6 Last Update: 29-11-2020 Gray - EoL / obsolete. Generally not recommended for purchase since its going to be pre-owned, refurbished or old stock. Green - small form-factor (gold and blue colors are disregarded due to scarcity of SFX PSUs) Gold - best units in the tier (...
thanks
Kinda worries me that I have a 750. It’s an evga platinum.
i forget multi rail is better to have then a single right?
EVGA tends to have good protections, but if it shuts off for no apparent reason while benchmarking or stress testing you'll know what the issue is
Multi vs single, each has its benefits
Some light reading, small article
http://dynapowerusa.com/difference-between-single-rail-and-multiple-rail-power-supplies/
I think that was the last cords. Gonna clean up the cords in the back and put the sides on. Do you guys want a video of it starting up when I get done? Or a picture?
Put it up in #build-pics when you're done
A tier goodness, that will work nicely
Will do. Thank you
Connections for fp fine
And was working prior to shipping
Any clues?
Tested it without ram and gpu
Prior to shipping from to where?
I watched the video and this part stuck out, looks like an FP connection is loose or not on all the way?
Try uinplugging the power switch and using something like a paperclip to connect the two pins instead
just bought the ENERMAX Revolution D.F. 850W 80 Plus Gold 850W, Full Modular, Multi Rail, 7 Year Warranty, Power Supply, ERF850EWT
it will be my backup until iether i get a 3080 or my psu dies
Yeah once I try to buy a 3080 ima try and run it off of a 850w, should be fine but who knows we’ll see
Still haven’t gotten the shipping information email from AMD on my 5900x though lol, been over 24 hours and they say it can take up to 48 which is yikes
My case and RAM are just a state over now so they should arrive Sunday or Monday
nice
i am running a ryzen 7 3700x
Yes
each of them
If you can at me because I’m making food
Yeah I got 32 GB 3600 CL16
Post some pics of the connections if you can, on the motherboard and else where. You had mentioned shipping??? I'd guess something came loose.
exactly my thought im sending all photos
The connections are good and I trust the guy
That video they were unplugged for the screwdriver
@muted patio
CPU power connector top left looks like it's in upside down
Clip is usually at the top, not the bottom
See above
you might be correcxt
Also here it looks like there's a pin missing on the FP headers? Third in from the left top row??
Okay, I’m back. The mobo lights are cool but nothing else turns on.
good, check that CPU power connector
I even tried taking the power button plug out and pushing it back in. Any advice?
Same situation as here, pics of your connections pls. Something isn't right. Also, what motherboard and CPU?
Sorry, see above
What motherboard is that?
unplug all cables from mobo but 24pin/case fans and try to power on. Should at least see PSU fan spin up and most likely case fans too
CPU power might need to go one to the right but I'd like to check
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813157981?Item=N82E16813157981 motherboard and cpu is below : https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i9-10900kf-core-i9-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118127?Item=N82E16819118127 and cpu cooler is https://www.newegg.com/nzxt-liquid-cooling-system-kraken-z/p/N82E16835146069?Item=N82E16835146069
I'll add the second cable to the cpu so i don't have to unplug. I'm quite scared since i don't want to break this
Currant state
Please don't change things yet
Just complicate the issue
kk
CPU power is correct vintage
okay, what is first step? I'll start there
I'm reading the manual, hol up lol
good luck with that. 🙂 I noticed it jumped around a bit.
Just one CPU power is fine where you have it but make sure they're fully seated. one looks like it's not in all the way or cocked a little bit
modular PSU? You mentioned shipping but didn't answer my questions?
yes they are both in and very solid. it is because the cords are turned back in that one goes down and one goes up
What about the rest of your connections? ALl those in the pics look fine, what abut 24 pin ATX, fans, etc?
its non modular
my apolgies for not responding
all seem solid and were carefully installed
what about CPU mounting pressure?
Right but pics are worth 1000 words
Especially if you have a modular PSU
I've seen it before where someone left a PSU connection out
this is primarily why I said to disconnect all cables but 24 pin. Easily counts random things such as CPU mounting pressure or a dead CPU to not happen.
Yes, the CPU cooler needs to apply a set amount of pressure on the CPU for the PC to work for Intel CPUs
the 24 pin is only the mobo connector?
but is a multi outlet plug good too?
i don’t want the power strip on the floor or mounted below my desk
I mean 8 pin EPS also connects to the mobo (CPU power), but if you leave that plugged in then any CPU issues can stop the PC from powering on
does anyone know why when i upgraded my 8gb of ram to 16gb of ram my gaming desktop is more laggy?
at this point I think it's best to unplug the connectors (just leave them hanging there, dont need to pull them out and completely remove them) until some fans spin. Then start plugging things back in until something stops working or it keps on working
@muted patio
I turned on the psu and the motherboard lights up, but doesn't respond to power button
@cursive wharf @muted patio any ideas?
Is the front panel switch plugged into mobo?
I'd say remove the EPS cable and see if fans spin up on pwr on
yes, I also unplugged and replugged it
Hmm
Could always short those power pins
To see if it's the button on case notnworking
what is the eps cable?
8 pin CPU power cable
kk
Hei you already try shortening power pins to see if power button is bad?
I believe that was done with Vintage
Ahh ok
still nothing. just a pretty mobo
@cursive wharf @muted patio should i just take it into my tech shop? I've worked with him before but it could be a long time until i get it back
Do you have a working pc all your components would work in?
no, just a craptop that is 6 years old
unplug the SSDs/HDDs. Also remove the CMOS battery, flip the PSU switch (or unplug the PSU from the wall), then hold the power button for a few seconds (if it's unplugged hold a screwdriver/paperclip onto the two fp headers for power), then wait a minute, then plug CMOS back in and turn PSU switch back on (or replugin the PSU), then try to power on again
what is an fp header? and i'm having trouble getting the battery out
what length should my replacement sleeved cables be for lets say a case like a 275r airflow or 4000d airflow
got the battery
oh god... now it's dead
no lights now
ok. just did that again and got th elights back. I'm just gonna quit and take it to a shop before i truely kill it
RAM latency will have more to do with responsiveness on the desktop, what speed and timings were the old and new memory?
I'm also assuming that you enabled the XMP profile
#build-pics message
@sage crown cursed images
😴
I got a pair of speakers the other day, I like em
what speakers?
made a build for a friend, aimed squarely as a gaming machine https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kV79QD
assess pls
they wanted it kek
what length should my replacement sleeved cables be for lets say a case like a 275r airflow or 4000d airflow sorry this is a repeat message
pls say you are joking
ITS NOT MY CHOICE
lol
but also they like the aesthetic
i think asus prime
is one
of the z490
or just go b560
also
sn750 is cheaper rn
and i believe it is faster than mp34
sooo
prolly
yeah since its a 10400f they could go b560
since b560 doesnt allow overclocking
and 10400f is locked
yea
prolly could go cheaper on ram and go with like silicon power stuff
same with psu
i think segotep is decent
idk
minus the case, obviously
I'm about to replace my Asus psu for a corsair
y
They're more modular compared to asus, especially at higher wattages
what one you gonna get?
Idk yet
I also have everything else corsair, and like I said their fully modular version have more slots compared to most other brands
ehh ig
If you really want to go all Corsair the RMx series PSUs are good, I use one. A tier.
Rip Rocket Lake
Just watched LTT’s wan show and 11700k is crap compared to the similarly priced Ryzen 7 5800x
Uh oh, looks like 10nm wasn't enough and AMD out-innovated them?
They'll probably stay top dog in the low-mid though, right? (Intel I mean)
Yep, it significantly underperformed the 5800x in most cases including all gaming tests
Well
5600x and 5800x supply is getting FAR better
True, wegg has them in regular stock now, not just shuffle
AMD’s prob gonna stay on top even in certain low-mid cases
I can tell you for sure that the 11700k though won’t be a great buy lol, 5800x claps it so hard
And 5800x is the most available out of the AMD 5000 series so
Well you can probably blame all the reviewers that bashed on the 5800X for being bad at price/performance. It was almost universally recommended you get 5600X or 5900X.
Yeah
I mean it is the worst for price/performance realistically but it’ll shine over the 11700k for sure
I ended up getting a 5800X myself out of the shuffle a few weeks ago. I'm very happy with it, especially considering it was literally all I could get at the time lol
Yeah I snagged my 5900x just Thursday, still waiting for shipping information email so I have no idea when to expect it
Said it could take up to 48 hours and it’s been about ~32 now so I assume I’ll have that information sometime this morning
Sweet! I feel like we'll be set for a good while on these processors, at the very least until the second gen AM5 comes out and the wrinkles get ironed out.
Yeah, only thing I’ll need to worry about soon is my GPU
Not at that price it's not
aint the worst ive seen
5500XT is awful though
looks like a rebranded ibuypower
o wait it says ibuypower in title lol
lol thought the model was the brand
oof yeah it is a 4gn 5500xt
8gb one isnt horrible
but 4gb is meh
4gb can have performane loss over %20+
but a 5500xt 8gb is pretty much a 1660 without encoders
Yeah the 4GB is a little worse than a 1060 3GB tbh
yeah
really takes a hit on some games
others not so much
in some games 5500xt 4 and 8 perform pretty much the same
Good luck playing fallout 4 or witcher 3 with that much vram, even in 1080p
mhmm
only 8gb of ram too
which may become a problem in some games
prolly not any more of a bottleneck than 4gb 5500xt tho
Then cam someone possibly find me a freedom Within $700 range I would like to build my own PC but with inflated prices right now I almost physically cannot
Ya
There's a few prebuilts that aren't total ripoffs on newegg and a couple other sites, hang on I'll find a couple
Here's the best option on Newegg I could find, just a bit over budget though
https://www.newegg.com/abs-ali477/p/N82E16883360072
Ok
10400f + 1660 8GB is a respectable combination still, even with the GPU being a few years old at this point
Yeah that's hardly the biggest concern on a prebuilt, you can always remove the side panel if it gets super hot

hi lili
hi lili
Hi lili
:bean:
hello
Hey guys I have Corsair Dominator rgb Ram, Nzxt Z73 cooler a Msi rtx 3090 and the Crosshair viii Dark hero Motherboard. I haven't installed any Software yet. Will the softwares slow down my pc when I install and configure them?
no
I thought so, because these will run in the background while gaming.
they take up resources such as ram and cpu usage but not enough to see an actual impact
Ah okay thank you very much
also dont know if you do know, but icue works with or should work with your asus board so then you dont have to get icue and aura and msi's software
just need 2
that means I can control the Dominator sticks rgb with Asus aura?
Ah okay didn't know that thank you
so for those of you who know the build i "want" to do, i need an opinion on this one, i think i already know your answer, but lets hear it anyways
that will be accompanied with a Corsair custom water loop
grand total would be around $3700
depends on the software, do you mean rgb software or in general?
erm, I would like to setup a full home network with security, home media server, game server, etc, and also use it to learn the ins and outs of networking, hardware and such, where are good places to learn about setting up a network and managing it, expanding its capabilities, and in general just becoming more tech literate?
iCUE will be about 30% GPU usage while the window is active
so keep it minimized
usage should be about 400mb ram and 5% cpu
minimized
Um, idk if anyone here is qualified to suggest anything about home networks
there are, just no one on right now
ah i see
if you can, try and catch Lili
maybe ill come back another time
yea i was thinking of that
im mainly just looking for resources tbh
youtube would be a great place to start
help yourself get a general understanding of how a home network would work so come the time you actually commit to it, you can simply just ask help with troubleshooting
but i can say, you might be spending a penny on a full home network
i assume youve already accounted for that tho
maybe, ill have a look at yt and maybe reddit, although it would be good to get an idea of other resources / websites etc i can learn from as well and use, and well it would be worth it since im seriously considering having a career in this area
youve described homelabs
also hi
im lili
im a lurker here
whatcha lookin 2 do
what im wondering is, well where should i be going to learn the ins and outs of all this, i'd like to setup a homelab to start but id like to eventually have a possible career in IT, so it would be helpful to understand my options
i guess
i wanna try and figure out how to turn my galaxy tab s7 into a sim panel for elite dangerous
and other games
2400mhz ram
also
i likely have a much more complex profile than you lol
so basically id like to know where I can learn about networking as a whole
with the goal of eventually working in it professionally
set up server
learn virtualization
get switch
learn networking
alright
do you have any recommendations as to what hardware to start with? and also is lurking in subreddits on the stuff helpful?
sorry I don't know anything really at this point beyond yes server it does helpful stuff
I mean, schooling would help you learn Information Technologies, but if you're looking to be self taught that may prove to be a little difficult just because its gonna be harder to find the help you may need later on down the road.
well, i do have a course on that, it's rather basic and on html at this point, in the future ill probably do a course in uni or sm as well
There you go, you could also do an apprenticeship with a small comapny or something that has IT, that way youre gettning hands on experience
r/homelab good
yea aha, although atm i can't really, so id like to get my hands dirty anyways and get ahead a bit
becoming friends with me for free tips is also cool

get cheap vps (maybe even from lililabs) and learn to host projects on it
lies, you gonna make him pay fines
i think your marketing of lililabs is working
im cheaper than digitalocean
free tips sounds great!
yeah baby
maybe ill stop lurking and actually engage with the server lmao
that helps too
aw, lililabs won't let me visit it
lililabs site is down for maintenance
lili, do you have like 10g networking?
so you have 500Gb networking?
wew, that's a lot
i have access to 500gbps networking yes
thats wild
so you actually only have 1gbps?
each one of my customers gets 1gbps
to do whatever with
does that make sense
you buy vps from me, it comes with 1gbps 99% of the time
so basically, people pay you to run a server for them?
is it profitable? although then again you wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't
yes
i make enough to sustain it
i like being cheap
and helping people run their dreams
so no Epyc?
ah
i do ryzen :))
oh you do TR
my budget nodes are e5 though
noice
oh...
so what cpu do you usually use for your servers?
all my intel nodes run on the Xeon E5-2680 V2
2 of them
so 20 cores and 40 threads per system
your ryzen servers are the ones im curious about
3900x
so, if youre using a 3900x, does that mean youre using gpus aswell?
so how would you trouble shoot that specific vps if you have no way of seeing it?
are consumer grade parts less reliable as opposed to enterprise hardware?
or is that just a few cases?
i have an admin console
ehhhh
i use asrock rack
enterprise ryzen
ah
i've only ever heard of intel enterprise grade stuff, so i really have a lot to learn
well obviously you have an admin console, but without video coming from the server how can you see what youre doing?
whats cli?
command line
the only way linux is meant to be used
havent even touched linux gui in 3+ years
well, i'm going off for the night, thanks for all this!
yes
np!
feel free to dm and stuff
so tell me, are most server centers servers run with APUs and GPUs or a CLI?
to troubleshoot and stuuf
cli only for 99.99%
if you actually know how to troubleshoot you dont need a gui
lol
plus i troubleshoot for clients but i charge $30 for every 15 mins
and thats considered cheap too lol
nope!
my cheapest instance is only $30 per year
but what is that providing them?
1 core, 1.5gb ram, 20gb ssd, and 3tb of 1gbps traffic
so basically enough to run a webpage
enough to run maybe 10 medium traffic sites and also a few services yeah
for just a website ur just gonna be using web hosting
which i dont do yet
mostly cause itd be like $3/month
and thats dumb when u can just get vps
yeah
what do people usually get one of those for?
thats for a full server
doing their own hosting, huge projects, massive compute needs
stuff like that
im thinking about the future, cause i may want something like a home network
128gb ram, 100tb of 1gbps
these are in a datacenter lol
wouldnt be able to take it home
yeah, i know, i mean building my own network
what would u host
and maybe other properties i own
well i mean like a network where i can keep remote storage backups, game servers, maybe run a website
oh fun
so that way it can all be at my house instead of paying someone else to do it all for me
makes sense
idk i wouldnt do that at home tho
if youre wanting offsite stuff thats what im for
like if u want the server to have 1gbps dedicated bandwidth at all times and have any hardware failures taken care of by technicians and have 99.99% SLA
thats what lililabs is for
if u just wanna have a nas
get a nas lol
or u could get that fatty 10gbps

only 1.5k+ per month
but its unmetered
so you think that if i want to run a game server, website, and a remote storage server, that i dont need to do it from home?
i think if you want to run all that stuff you shouldnt run it from home
besides the server
cause i plan to build a nearly completely self suffiecient house, and that includes IT stuff
the storage server at least
like i mean u can rent drives from me but
that isnt too cheap
i figured
so what are the major differences in networking speed? say i only get 1gbps from an internet provider, but i have 10gbps computer, would would i make it not a waste of money
no itd be dumb
unless youre doing 10gbps over lan
10gbps transfers to a nas is the most common example
and remember most isp will say 1gbps down
but will cap at 35 up
unless you have fiber
so hosting from home can be painful asf
if its just game servers and some sites a ryzen vps would be fine
as long as you can navigate cli
well, in my home, i want to have starlink and fiber, fiber being primary and starlink being secondary(i have a reason for wanting both) i know starlink isnt ever going to provide 10gbps networking, but fiber does.
well i would obviously have protection from potential exposures
such as?
like vpns and firewalls
vpn is dumb unless youre ok with ip changing every 10 mins
or other stuff that will keep me safe
and if you mean a vpn with a static ip
then that wont work either since itll bottleneck the network speed overall
and increase ping by a BUNCH
on my ddos protected instances each instance gets 60gbps of ddos guard
best way to deal with ddos attacks is just to eat the entire thing

what i mainly want is protection from your typical white hat hacker, someone who knows what their doing, but isnt the best at it. now blackhats and feds, well, i most be doing something im not supposed to if theyre trying to breach my network
99% of the protection is just from you being under my ip range
unless you want your home ip getting scraped literally 2000x per day
what would be wrong with that?
So, giving all the customers you have, I assume yours maybe closer to 50000x a day?
Or more
closeish
but its a lot worse if someone accesses your home network
vs a random vps on my network
But if someone accessed your network, wouldn't they get information on the whereabouts of it?
whatever you choose to host
I mean the actual location where that "data center ip" is originating from
Cauae isn't the whole reason to have a VPN is to change your online location to anywhere in the world so that way you aren't being tracked online?
depends which datacenter
vpn doesnt do any of that lol
vpn only use is to have a different ip to scrape stuff with
lol
What changes your online ip location
Like let's say I'm gambling online, I set my ip to Germany or something since online gambling in the US is illegal, what is that called
proxy
Ok
And how effective is that against people finding out the origin of an ip
Against a novice hacker of somesorts
somewhat alright
Sorry, I meant a decently experienced hacker
theyll find a datacenter ip no matter what lol
Well if I was using a VPN, I wouldn't use a third party, I'd use my own
So that way I'm the only one monitoring my traffic
I assume there is ways to do from home right?
Set up a proxy
Then how do third parties do it?
or you host vpn at home to connect to home network
by hosting on a vps
or a dedicated server
lol
So how am I supposed to make a protected network of my own?
get good firewall and understand that every port you open is a disaster waiting to happen on a home network
lol
What do you mean by port
i suggest you read about basic networking principles before attempting to host anything from home
Well I don't intend to do any of this in the next couple years, this is future talk here, cause like I said, I won't a house that is nearly completely self sufficient.
then id learn now
get a cheap vps
learn to host stuff
then move up to hosting at home when you feel comfy
Alright
other good providers are digitalocean and linode
so this feels like less of an ad for lililabs

Lol
I still have tons of thinking to do with this home, I'm just thinking about the future of my home network
I'll keep lililabs in mind when I start toying around with vps
Well I'm still getting settled in at my new job, so I gotta wait on so things, it might be a couple months till I do decide to start learning about this more, but I definitely do plan on doing it
Its very expensive to host vpn that uses other datacenters. Only way you could do it cheaper perhaps if you know some people in other countries and can use their network
but thats generally not fast
its not too bad
i mean like if u got 2 different lililabs instances and used each as a vpn
one in usa one in netherlands
its like 60 a year
not as good as commercial vpn but its still 2 static ip
not as good in terms of spare ip addresses*
okay
update
bad ram stick
99% sure
so that means the period of stability was when that bad stick wasnt being used
then it tries to use it and it's just like "nope"
but it's weird that the mobo, occt AND memtest didnt find anything wrong with it
Could i ask if anyone is available to review this build?
solid but 64 gb of ram isn't really necessary
32 is more than enough
well im always running low on memory at 16, and im trying to be conservative
i recommend the liquid freezer ii 360mm for cooling
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler?
game development, video editing, gaming. Development.
im hoping to keep it under 4-5k
that looks pretty good then
maybe change storage to some wd blues
but otherwise its good
I was hoping to go NAS actually
oh if you want sure
Whats WD Blues?
hdd
ironwolf is cring
how so
if ur getting a nas im the person to talk to
seagate has fat failure rates and their drives arent too good
just listen to lili rant about storage
what NAS would you suggest?
depends on what ur doing
@hollow grail
well the NAS is going to have all my back ups. media aswell. probably have plex run off it?
plex sux
alternative?
doesn't seem to be on Google TV.
hate plex that much eh? 😛
and just get some wd whites for the drives
at least 5 bays
i dont like being telemetried to hell on a self hosted service no
you buying prebuilt for nas?
if its just about data collection and not about performance or UX then plex it is for me. aye, probably just synology
for my server? or my rig?
nas
i need to do more research. i thought it was just one unit you buy.
i thought the NAS could hook up to multiple PCs. do i need a dedicated PC to run the NAS?
aye, could you expand on what you mean go amd or intel only?
for the nas
lmao round and round my brain goes
if i buy that, can i connect to it from my pc, wifes pc and my future server?
how do i know if its arm powered or not
ah i see
raid 10?
Hey guys quick question will I need an commander pro if u have 7 fans or does the 4000d case already come with a hub
4000d doesnt come with a hub
Ok thx
How do i know if the tower i am buying is going to fit all my new toys?
pray
pcpp normally would say if its compatible or not and on site of the case or manuals or specifications will say the sizes they support
hmm
you could just take a dremel to it
dremel?
must be a US tool lol
don't dremel your parts unless you really don't care about them
never heard of the company
pcpp stuff should generally be good for seeing if parts fit together
if anything you can look at the dimensions of each part and see if they fit
i just use this on graphics thing, y it no work
did u turn the tool on
lol yeah
dremel + 3070 = 3090
dremel go brr lol
true statement
oh, weren't you the one who posted the itx build?
yessir
if you have built a pc before its a bit harder
i didnt put a gpu in the one i did
idk how you would
it comes with a pcie extender tho
i kinda wanna try velka 5
maybe the gpu would be mounted somewhere else in the cause using the extender?
like the NZXT H1 without the fire, you know?
xD
It goes in the rear part i think
But idk how to mount it...
Pc building is an expensive hobby lol
I was surprised when it posted first try
honestly that's pretty surprising for any build imo
most times i've fixed up wires or something in my pc i forget to turn on the psu or something
or i forgot to plug in the gpu cable once
I have only built two and they both posted first and i was like
Oh wait the first one didnt
I forgot to plug it in
it's always that lmao
Ikr
Firat build, help please
Need to install windows.
How lol I've gotten to this
I’m not really the smartest pc person but I think you should select a flash drive as your boot device and use another computer to download windows onto the flash drive and plug in the flash drive
Did you already have Windows installed or no?
Did you Take a drive out of an older PC and put it in there?
Need an 8 GB thumb drive and another PC. Download and run the tool to make a windows installation on a USB drive you can boot from and install. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Quick question, if I don't update my drivers on my graphics card, is it normal for my monitor to go black screen for a couple of seconds?
If you DON'T update them?
Whenever it black screens, I go to check for driver updates and its there
What next? Do I need to setup boot device?
So I was wondering if there was a correlation
Go where to check for Driver updates?
You need to make the USB thumb drive with the tool I posted
Then boot from the USB stick
Windows driver updates??
no geforce game ready
After I update it, it never black screens until another update comes along
Oh, you mean after you click Install, it updates the driver and black screens while doing it?
No it's whenever there is a update available for my graphics card
You probably have Geforce Experience set to auto install new drivers yeah?
No I manually install them
I'm missing something, it's normal to black screen during a driver install
Not really any other time
Ya it does during the install which is fine. But whenever I do an assignment or browsing, it randomly black screens. So I go to check if there is an update on geforce experience, and there is always one available to download.
So I was wondering if I don't regularly update my graphic card drivers, would my pc randomly black screen until I update it
It shouldn't but that's not out of the realm of possibility
would someone put together a pc that isn’t super expensive it would be for my dad he only play the cods when they come out
smth that could play 1080p around like 120 fps
Well what's the budget
is it advisable to run 3 ram sticks?
i found out my issue was a bad ram stick disguising itself as a bad gpu
and i can't find any single sticks which match my model
so im thinking if i should just buy a pair and either use one out of the two, or just have it sitting on 24gb
Not really, once you exceed the capacity of a pair, the rest runs in single channel mode
It'll work, just slow down
occt memtest and windows memory thingy all didnt detect the bad ram
and it was basically dying every time gpu tried to write on the bad stick
Windows memory diagnostic only catches the really bad stuff
Need Memtest86 or TestMem5+anta777 to catch the slightly bad stuff
so what caught it?
It may in fact be a bad slot on a motherboard if the ram testing utilities didn't catch it
@fading acorn https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xGvCVc
I put only 1tb of stirage since he only plays cods and it might be a while before he can get a gpu. You can get a different case if he prefers and might also be able to cut some price
Why get i5 10050f
Or whatever the numbers are
Anyway the one with the F at the end
And then switch mobo
^^^
Anyone able to help me real quick?
Make sure tho if you do plan to upgrade cpu to a "k" cpu at some point go for z490 as it can overclock cpu and ram, while b560 can only oc ram
i already have a 3600 for him to use should have said that aha
but if i get my hands on a 3070 sometime soon i can give him my 2060s
Hey guys! How its going? I have been always a console gamer but now I really want to switch to PC. I have never dealt with gaming pc. I have a good knowledge about PC compenonts. But I have never managed to get one. But I saved some good enough money to buy a gaming pc a MID-budget not a high end one. So my question is do you guys recommend I get a pre-build one since I have never managed to install any PC part.
BuildRedux is decent
^
was just about to find that link
they allow you to take off the OS and install your own (basically saves $100 because you can get windows keys cheap)
i uh i have no idea
How do you know the ram is bad then?
cuz
i put both of them in the same slot
and one of them started crashing the heck out of everything lol
idk why the memtest stuff couldnt catch it
like, one stick of ram i insta crash everything and the other stick runs perfect
so it's not even the mobo, it's just derpy ram
i think one other guy actually had the same exact problem when i tried googling
but since the ram tests didnt detect anything i skipped over it thinking it wasnt relevant to me
and then i tried literally everything else and the only thing left was derpy ram or derpy mobo and i was actually tilting towards derpy mobo because of how nothing was detecting the ram issue
Mobo is rarely derpy
XD the only reason i tilted towards mobo was cuz i had uh
a little "mishap" when i was applying thermal paste
but it's fixed now so everything is good :3
there is no longer a ring of visible thermal paste around the aio contact heat sink thingy
Thermal paste isn't electrically conductive so not likely to cause issues if a little gets "misplaced"
