#building-and-recc-chat

Oh
sorry if im like flooding the chat, im just trying to be extra helpful
all good
thank you guys I found it
nice
its cool teaching ppl the basics
everyones always the most proud of their very first build :))))
When I learned it was AGP and ISA and you had to do master slave jumpers on drives. 😛
i was before i got windows reboot loop and my cpu was defective 🙂
I remember cartridge based CPU's XD
i dont remember when i learned about pcs but its pretty recent
i still need a lot to learn
They plugged in like a ram stick
see
that has 2 cpu slots. AGP, 5 PCI (not pcie) and 2 ISA
only one cpu slot is populated in the image
Pci x8?
thats pentium 2... so i dont know... whatever the first gen was
because i could be wrong, but I don't recall PCI existing on Pentium 1
Ah ofc
Guess I've never glared at an AGP slot alone to know that
(seriously, that is a 4 chip GPU)
Guys, 3600 cl16 > 3200 cl 14?
Could you please recommend good 16gb? Or maybe brands to look at
but if it's amd don't exceed 3600 unless you are doing custom over clocking.
Intel 🙂
Damn it’s so hard to lear everything about building a pc, so many little things..
oh well... then, i havn't done any hardcore research on intel lately, ive heard it does not matter and you can go as fast as your mobo will accept, but also going faster does not matter that much on intel
but again, im planning an AMD build so it might be worth brushing up if you really really care
99.9% of the time you wont notice the difference though.
like even if you bought 2400 on accident... the times when it will get you more than like 5fps... is rare
Got it! Thank you very much!
but yeah, I would look at your mobo and decide how much you want to spend
Trident Z and Ripjaws and Ballistics are the best imo
that first one is available in 16gb*
those are my top picks
ballistics is speed > latency, trident Z is Latency > Speed, and ripjaws is balanced.
@idle geode
I hope he saw that >.>
That is a thicc card
it looks nice
its not any thicker than modern cards though.
it is thiccer though >.>
There was also also a very thick gpu tho
With uh...8x8 pins
Or it was 12x8
Idk, need to find it
theres that one custom PCB guy on youtube that makes meme-aic's every year for april fools day
he does a really good job faking them
I hope he saw that >.>
@eager escarp thank you very much!!
nice XD
I have a bunch of old monitors, but no old graphics cards
like... tubes...
I only got one old monitor that was on sent to trash and one i have rn
The one i have is 768p 60hz
yeah
I also have some 4k monitors and a plasma tv, and hd CRT TV's, SD ones, PVM's, and a couple projectors
I collect display tech >.>
Those old stuff is rare to find
Even on a dumpster lol
On my country atleast
I wish i had a TV tho on my room
FB markletpalce at least in the US has tons of stuff... just gotta be fast and willing to do the work to go get it x.x
but they just give the stuff away for free... 90% of the time
Thats great
But well sadly i don't live in us tho, otherwise i would be building my own PC and setting up VR
I also found a bunch of i7 workstations on the side of the road
im going to go grab one now and test it. . .
they were in the rain but it's been drying for like 3 months now so... wish me luck
For free?
in the woods, in the rain = free >.>
Lol
i don't even know what gen they are
but even a gen2 i7 is pretty good for alot of stuff
if one works im going to give it to my grandma because she has an even older celeron
Lga 755 celeron?
I ran cinebench R15, because R20 wouldn't even run on it... and it got a grand total score of... 160
On cpu-z
Mine has 265 score on MT
I was wrong... they are both i5
still not celeron...
going to plug them in and test
Check this out...
Literally found one nib
Almost a shame to open it. . .
Nice, though gtg now
most PC CRT ran at 75hz by default to be flicker free
hmph i want a phi but idk what id use it for
so when LCD was new they targeted the same spec
we have power!
damn it dell... what kind of PC has ps2 ports dvid, and 4 display ports
Bought a full build, components are: 5600xt used for $190, r5 3600 used for $130, b450 used for $90, some used ram 3600 2x8, a new Samsung sata 860 1tb for $80, uses h510 case a little scratch ontop everything else fine for $50, Corsair 750w used for $100, cooler master black cooler new for $35, all for under $600 worth?
specify?
rust
It's the lenovo legion t5. I wanted to upgrade the memory
intel says that it is limited to 2666 mhz
and the lenovo ram is 2933 mhz
Lol I brute force guessed the password!
It was 2020 XD
Aw... It's not an admin
Sigh. . .
How did you get rust on it?!
do you want to upgrade to faster ram?
If possible
because your motherboard will reduce the clock speeds to allow your system to work
if it’s too fast anyway
I had bought 3200 mhz ram and it reduced to 2133
so I returned it
I found this PC in the woods in the rain
oh wow
you can try to get a stable oc on your ram to get it to 3000mhz if your previous ram was running at 2933
you can go to #overclocking to help you tune the timings and voltages
stable oc...?
overclock
can you still install a new BIOS over the pre-installed one by lenovo?
you mean update your bios?
we have one dead stick of ram or one bad ram slot
not sure yet
could just need some contact cleaner.
Guys would you get a R5 5600x for $350 or an i9-9900K for $324? Tax and shipping included
Im trying to decide for my build
Is the Ryzen 5 3600 a good pick to go with the 3060ti?
should be fine
youll b alright
got drivers... lets see what cinebench says
whatcha benchin bb
a pc i found in a forest
it has rusty ram sticks 😄
literally...
491 score!
not bad actually
for a free pc i literally found in the woods
it had 16gb or ram, but it has either a dead slot or a dead stick or both
so now only 12gb lol
i5 3000 series (forget which one, rebooting rn)
and amd radeon 7000 series
which seems to be basically just a multi-display adapter because it fails open GL rendering tests
booting CPUZ
Rusty ram
I don't think it will run heaven... gpu too weak
but I can try...
ill grab valley first. . . .
I bought a SSD for it 😄 just a cheap one
well 50 bucks, going to give the PC away to my grandma
her pc is worse...
and as long as the HDD is new if something blows her data will be safe
any recommendations for a good GPU that pairs nicely with the ryzen 3600? budget of about $350 or less.
I like valley and superposition alot more than heavon... ill run it first though :/
do you care about RTX?
I dont mind RTX or AMD
well either way, the answer is go outside, because graphics cards are unavailable until march probably ; ;
but realisticly... probably the 6800 amd... i forget the exact price though
I think that one is in your range
i was wrong... its more
hmmm
3060ti then... 399... is as close as you will get from the new generation
but cheaper cards will follow soon
true I really dont mind spending up to $500 I just want something reliable honestly I was thinking about the 5600XT or the 2060S
it runs!... at 5fps...
in 1024x768 windowed mode... which is the highest it would allow me to set it to...
ill drop the settings down from extreme after this run
okay dx11 not fully supported aparently, going to dx9 low allowed it to go fullscreen
still 1024x768 cause of the old monitor I have it on lol
but its running at 25fps!
you could totally play like... torchlight 2 or sonic mania, or cuphead on this pc
niiiice
my grandma will mostly use it for photos and facebook though XD
the most modern thing my grandma does on the PC... is livestream church
lol
Heaven score: Low, DX9, 1024x768, AA Off = 572 average FPS 22.7
So uhhhhhhhh,
I recently got my hands on some shady 3 rammed out servers with some SAS hard drives within them. These are my current numbers:
(1x Proliant Gen9, 2x Proliant Gen8)
4x 600 Gb SAS
8x 450 Gb SAS
8x 300 Gb SAS
Total Gb's: 8.4 Terabytes
8 x 16Gb Ram
48 x 8Gb Ram
Total: 512 Gb Ram
Knowing that server ram and sas hard rives cant really be used to upgrade anything within a gaming rig, is there any way i can use it in the first place? I have booted each of them (they run fine) but i cant seem to get past the startup. I believe that an OS has not been installed on any of them. I've been thinking of selling each hard drive separately for around 50$ or something, but i don't fully know if there is any data in any of them.
if you're locked out from even booting them you could clear cmos maybe
but GL getting the drivers and games to coperate
If i had 16gb of ram, could i get another 16gb but different brand to make 32gb? Or does it have to be the exact same
it can be a different brand, but if you want it to look uniform i'd go with the same. Always prioritize cost if thats what is needed first though.
Ok thank you
This is my current PC build what can I do to make it go to the next level my budget is $1000
AMD 100-100000071BOX Ryzen 7 3700X with Wraith Prism cooler
MSI MAG B550M BAZOOKA AM4 mATX Motherboard
G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-32GTZN TZ NEO 32G KIT 2X16G DDR4 3200MHZ

GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER DUAL 8GB
Is a 600w 80+ White PSU enough for: a Ryzen 7 3700x, 2070 Super, no RGB.
u might wanna tell the rest of the build
so that we can tell
if 600w is enough or not
damm
how many times can i reinstall my windows
before the license gets revoked
like assuming i never change motherboard
you shouldn't get white for your build tho
don't go cheap on a psu
especially for your specs
dont cheap out on your psu
infinite times, the license is tied to the board
alright thanks
i thought it was like windows 7
where it just stopped working for some day
That depends though, he might have Retail edition
Retail ties to board?
yes
i have the one Acer installed in
Wait they changed it since Windows 7?
so i should be fine
acer
yes snipe literally everything abt activation got changed with 10
Is it a Predator though?
sadge
i have a gaming laptop and i like it
the 2018 1050ti one
yeah
but
if i had used the money for something else
i could have gotten a good PC
also i didn't like the build quality
it's all plastic
and the painting on 4 keys is completely gone
yeah my laptop is nice lol
i had like 4 laptops and it's the first time that happened
acer just makes cheap trash
also they cheaped out so hard that the international version has no ssd
Speaking of parts no one wants to touch, my GTX 1070 has no manufacturer
wdym
Yeas
it felt from a truck in china and someone sold it to you?
Naw pulled it from a Lenovo pre-built haha
lol
actually 100% legit too
Damn
zero markings except for a sticker that says 1080 dragon in chinese
you plan on keeping it?
Well so far, in Denmark there is no 3080 stock
i want to let it make friends with my 1060
it's secretly streaming your screen to the CCP
well now i had to open my nitro to install my new ssd
i know it's easy and how to do it
but idk
still kinda worried i will break it
if some chinese kid can do it so can you
i miss my clevo
6 screws before i was looking at the bare cpu
2 screws before i had access to all the drives
0 screws to remove the battery
Old Laptops were better
i could acess the HDD and the SSD
without having to open the entire thing
it was a slider
in the bottom
still regretting buying this laptop
but still all i have now unfortunately
even prebuilt would have been better i think
depends
Does a fully modilar psu mean that I can change the cables, like to white ones?
hey im building my first pc, can anyone help me by chance?
Whats the budget?
And ryzen or intel?
my current build is an i5 6400 (i want to upgrade this), gtx 1660s asus tuf gaming(upgraded from gtx 960), h170 mobo (i believe i should upgrade this), 550w gold rated psu evga supernova ga (i upgraded this from a 450w bronze), my case is a y700-34ish Type 90DG (i believe i need to upgrade this) 16 gb ram 2133 hz (i would rather not upgrade this)
my goal is to just play world of warcraft near max if not max settings at 1080p 144hz
i do prefer intel
i had this motherboard in mind with an i5 9600k
also my eyes were on this pc case https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811353140?Item=N82E16811353140
i would like to utilize all wires
@verbal quarry
That mobo doesn't seems bad but if you going for a K chip, go for z390
is there a budget friendly cpu you may recommend?
I'm not really familiar with intel but ill doing some research and get back to you if no one gets you an answer
10400
Yeah but still if you can get k chip for cheap, it's great.
Like 9700k or 9600k
hmm
can the 1050ti handle VR
some sources say it can
some say it can't
anyone has any experience with this?
Yes it can
But depends on the game.
Also depends on your headset resolution of each screen aswell.
But shouldn't be a big factor tho.
is an r7 2700x gonna bottleneck an rx 5600 xt
no
beast gpu
honestly
Leeettss gooo im doing my build in 3 and a half hours
specs?
@whole forum better damn well share those specs or the pitchforks are coming out
3600X 1660 ti and 16 gb of ddr4 3600
@little osprey should i go with 10400 or 10400F?
10400 usually cheaper for whatever reason so
Can I connect my pc to this or only wall outlets ?
mostly just supply and demand
You can, but wall outlet is recommended since you'll be pulling a lot of power.
Hello. Could someone assist me with picking out the proper Ram for an older HP machine?
depends, 10400 and 10400f is at the same price
It's just if you need the igpu or not.
I think it's IPM87-MP
Intregated gpu
It can be useful as a display adapter.
The HP ENVY 700-210xt?
Figuring out process or now. She's a little slow. HP Pavilion 500 PC Series. Model No. 500-205T
Hm
It really is a problem that it takes that long to go to properties under This PC goddang
oh i dont think so Kad, i think ill be fine using the displays off my 1660s
IBM87-MP comes up with hp envy on my end
Snipekills, I've got 8 monitors on it right now. Working it hard.
Well, let's find the cpu
Still...i think 10400 would be a great option.
Yeah...it's great for troubleshooting if the dedicated gpu dies or it is having trouble
@warm mirage if you're on windows, could just open task manager to find the cpu
My sisters GPU died so hard that even the display from CPU was scitty scatty
CPU is Intel Core i5 4590
haven't heard of a GPU without the X in years hahah
CPU 88%, GPU 70% and 135 degrees lol
Ubm lol...
would the 10400 cpu be compatible with this motherboard https://www.newegg.com/asus-tuf-b365m-plus-gaming-wi-fi/p/N82E16813119212
Hang on a minute i just thought of something. How about using old AMD FX's as drink warmers? Like use a low enough voltage that the CPU will burn nice and crispy so the drink will be a perfect temperature.,
It is not Bad
Lga 1151 mobo.
Someone tell me if I made good choices: r7 2700x, rx 5600 xt, 16gb ddr4 3200, b450 steel legend, masterbox mb520
10th gen intel uses a completely different socket than the last few years
You will find out Mr. EnderMan
Sounds tight
much better than the pentium g3258 I used to have
The mobo you looking for is a h410, b465 & Z4xx mobo
ok cool thank you
I got some DDR3 ram from New Egg but after changing it out, the computer beeps several times and never boots.
I got two 16 Gig sticks of Crucial Ram
I removed the battery from the CMOS for about 15 minutes, put it back in and all it did was beep again.
It probably doesn't support over 16
Hence it didn't boot
OEM PCs tends to be like that
So, I guess I'll try one stick of 16 and see what happens.
Sounds good
@warm mirage I wonder if it only supports 2x8gb sticks
Hard to find specs for mobo because OEM and all, but 2x16gb support is rare
ok i think i have found a motherboard that i like https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-b460-h-gaming/p/N82E16813119286?Item=9SIAFVFBH38180&Description=b460&cm_re=b460-_-13-119-286-_-Product going with the i5-10400 , use is for world of warcraft at 1080p 144hz, 16 gb of 2133 ram , 550w evga supernova gold rated psu, 500 gb ssd for games, 3 tb hdd for media. i dont really have a budget but i dont want to put money somewhere it doesnt belong for my purpose. what is everyones thoughts? negative and positive welcome Gtx 1660s oc edition asus tuf gaming
maybe get a 600w just in case
it seems like my 430w corsair psu won't be enough for an r7 2700x and rx 5600 xt
but not sure
because it isnt
yeah that's what I thought
gt 710 gaming
pcpartpicker says it's enough but you can't always trust it as much as the actual recommended power
what's a good price for the 5600xt
I got mine for $320 USD
thanks, how's the performance?
320 is a bit much imo
Mr 1111 I'll find out what happens in a few minutes. Thanks everyone for the help.
they are usually under 300
everything is overpriced in terms of gpus rn
2060 is a lot more expensive than the 5600xt
frfr
its also better
nice
re: price for anything: Have a look at what the MSRP for the product is, and then judge if the current market price is worth it :)
good price is however much ur willing to pay
you can get a used gpu for a good price
gpus are just difficult to get in general right now since stock and price are all over the place
the exact same card I got on newegg for $320 a few days ago is now $535.99 with $100 shipping so....
thats a bargain
Oh wow
that would actually be good
like I said prices are just wonky rn
The 3060ti is 409 now
5 am
and
spam
f5
and
get
a
new
card
i
will
be
doing
this
as
well
pls no ban i stop
bottleneck go brrrr
3060 or 3070 in stock anywhere? Not feeling like paying 700 to scalpers
LMFAO
r7 3700x and gt 710 go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
r7 2700x and 6 year old radeon hd7800 go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
LOL
Hello
are mining cards repairable
honestly
it comes with a 3060ti
worth it
oof
but
it actually has a b450
so thats kinda rough
damn
nzxt actually has prebuilt game
how they make profit off this
although if you can get a 3060ti i still do believe might be cheaper to build it
not sure
@frosty hinge IF you can accept the trade-offs with the prebuilts, then yes-ish.
Do keep in mind what their build time is, both for custom and prebuilts
i mean for the type of pc that is
i would say for a first time builder
maybe like 5-6 hours
not including breaks
and also nzxt doesnt do the best job building
really?
really
prebuilts are extremely viable rn though
plus youre getting stuck with that case
🤮
id go with cyberpower tbh
Yea
How’s my build? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qZMYLP
they arent the worst out there and any issues you might have, you can probably get help with here
And I’m getting a 5 pack of gelid stellas https://gelidstore.com/products/stella-amber5-bundle?variant=33112092835922
something to keep in mind. I have had talks with people that could not be bothered trying to source their own 3080's, so they went with prebuilts. They just forgot to notice the 4+6 week build time that the companies mentioned in very small print
not me, i dont care
just putting it out there. Because build time IS a part of prebuilds
also a lot of builders just say 3080
3080
might be getting a crap gigabyte card, might get some msi, might luck out with an evga
my personal favorite is "1 tb nvme"
Yo naed
hello Joker
i only see you asking if there is activity, i dont see a actual question yet?
Lol fair enough
if you can get a 3060ti
this build will be better and cheaper
ask the question, then people can decide if they know the answer and/or if they want to spend the time figuring it out :)
you missed the part where the person doesnt know how to build their own pc
which is why theyre going to a service
tru
to build it for them
you also missed the 1tb ssd
pay me to build it
i dont think 1tb ssd is needed
There lol
ill build it but i wont send it back
I managed to trade a 3060 ti for a FTW3 ultra 3080 the other day
of the pc
tfw lmfao
Well of course I had to pay the difference in msrp
please dont avoid the filter
considering no one can even get a 30 series card kekw
I mean head gotten offers up to 1300
ok
He just really wanted a founders edition
oh
makes sense
i mean
founders edition is hot
and i mean you did pay the difference in msrp
id look for something like this and upgrade ssd and whatnot
ouch
Plus that FTW3 wasn't for me lol
if you needed a prebuilt
I have a gigabyte aorus master 3080
lmfao i think my ram is running at the base frequency
i have to boot into bios and fix that at some point in time
I still have idea how to mount fans or a radiator lol
Which cooler
h100i
I mean I want to mount it in the front, but also want my fans to show
So I was going to do the two fans in the radiator as intake and 3 as exale
Gotta sacrifice one or the other lol
Then I’ll mount it on the top if possible lol
Its how my aio is mounted
I don’t know if it’ll fit in my case
top is usually the best place to put if u have 240mm i think
ok. trying to upgrade my tower. is there an easy way to find out whats compatible with my current set up to know what i can buy to not break the bank?
what are current specs
we can help you
and also
right now is most definitely
one of the worst times to upgrade
bc its the transition time between generations of cpus and gpus
so if u can chill wit ur current tower for a couple more months u can get a lot more for a lot less 💵
alright, i could wait, though i was thinking there would be some good post xmas deals. my current cpu is intel celeron g3920 2.8GHz
nvidia gforce gtx 560 graphics card
there are
but there actually arent
because
im sure you have heard of the new cpu and gpu launch debacle
so due to that the prices even for the last gen cards are very high
https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/Nx32W3
what do you guys think of this?
lets see
whats ur budget
and lemme see the conversion rate to usd
@little osprey
does amazon ship to the netherlands i assume?
ok im looking on amazon nl i have to translate it from dutch for every page LMAO
budget is about 5oo$ give or take the ability to get set up for VR for cheap.
and i live in the lower forty eight, WA state to be specific
Hi. Does the Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB CC-9011098-WW case fit an EATX motherboard? i.e. ASUS Prime X299-Deluxe II
@karmic rose The motherboard looks to be an ATX motherboard from my end
yup you are correct, thanks!
What does it mean if my flash bios button is solid red
have you googled the name of the board and then bios button red
Should I take the USB out I didn’t rename the file
can literally promise you thats all anyone would do
What
But my LED IS just on solid red
renamed to msi.rom?
well its not gonna do anything if you keep it in
Should I power it off first or keep it on
id power it off
and id also read the manual and do stuff properly the first time from now on
I did, the website wasn’t super clear lol
thanks
i was thinking of getting an Quest 2
i know it has an internal GPU
but now i heard it's worse than the 1050ti
Quest SoC is pretty weak.
yeah
What does this mean ?
what were you trying to do?
i think that’s a corrupted file error
not anything serious
@pulsar crag
sfc /scannow
paste this in command prompt
it’ll scan your computer
Hey guys, I'm having a bad time deciding on the components for my build, can anyone help me out ? Mostly the cpu
I've only bought the GPU
All prices already have taxes and shipping included
i would go with option 2
I personally
an i9 is a bit overkill
fax
i like ur pfp jake
look into going 10th gen intel
i5 10400 cheap and pretty good but you will probably want to get a Z490 mobo
the i5 is the same price as r5 3600
for future upgrades
is the i5 better than r5 ?
actually the 3600 is more expensive rn
but I mean they are about the same but the 10400 is better in some games
its 250 at microcenter
and also @final meadow , what is your budget?
max $1000
ill make u a list hold on
ahhh ok
I think its worth mentioning, I will mostly use the pc for gaming and maybe start streaming
nope, I saw v-Color Prism Pro 16gb 3200 mhz for 66 on newegg
264 total
nvm I see
9700k is 200 at microcenter
Do y’all think a ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660 super could play cyberpunk
yeah at 1080p but you would probably need to play at maybe medium settings
or maybe high settings
Okay thanks
np
Thanks bro, I will meditate about it haha I'm still not 100% sure about getting an inte l
yea np but thats a pretty solid build but you can change out the cooler if u dont like the look of it, its just cheaper and really good at cooling
tbh tho the psu seems kinda spook
I've heard of some people using it and haven't had any issues with it
What are the most important motherboard drivers to install once you have windows
If I’m front mounting my radiator, does it go radiator -case - fan or can I make it to fan-case-radiator
maybe wifi drivers, ethernet port drivers
I want my fans on the radiator to be in the case
Do I really need a Microsoft Windows key?
you can get them cheap from websites
I already have windows installed but does the key give some benefit at all?
it depends if you want the fans to be pulling air from the ouside of the case through the radiator or having the fans pushing air through the radiator from the outside of the case
RB30 code on CDKdeals.com, this was on the newegg stream so must be fine, its for windows keys @pulsar crag

u just use a different computer, plug in usb into other pc, download update for bios then plug usb into new pc and then go to bios and update bios

I wasn't happy with the fan configuration used in my original build https://youtu.be/OaTEgeI_JFw due to thermal performance and I wasn't happy with the changes I made to improve this in my thermal testing video https://youtu.be/DcMVmLBTVMs due to aesthetics, so I have come up with a new configuration that does both and in my opinion is the best...
the rear intake is better
my othe racoubt
you can just ping me here
I can’t take the mounting bracket off of the AIO block, any advice ?
This is stuck on
and youve tried pulling it out already like the other one?

Yeah it won’t budge
Is it plugged in
Yes
Is the power supply on
Yeah i think its might not be enough wattage
Its 500w for gtx 1650 ryzen 5 2600
Have you checked to see if the front io button is connected
Maybe
Usually bottom right of motherboard
Yeah i got that but do you know how the pin connectors get grouped together
Thats what i think might be it
Has it worked before or did you just build it
Just built
You should check your motherboards manual or check for markings on the motherboard
I looked and it doesnt say how to group the connectors
Gigabyte b450
Yep
Oh wait Um one sec I think I have a manual for that
It tells me where to put them but the cable i need to connect i dont know how to group
Here tou go
Should i update to this driver ?
