but, you will be basically making the system last for a shorter period

because you are scaling down performance at the same time

I was originally thinking about a 2tb hdd, probably seagate barracuda 2tb 7200rpm (~$50). Then I thought about getting 3/4tb. If I go 4tb w/ seagate, it's $80 but 5400rpm. If I go WD black, its $125. Recommendations? I would prefer a 7200rpm but idk if 5400rpm would really be that detrimental for my use (document/media storage, some large games). Cost is somewhat of a concern.
