Funny caps?
Capacitors
Not sure
Don't the fans drown out the whine tho
Im saying my experience with an asrock boars
Hmm
Ive got thermalright fans and the whine is louder typically
A620i
Really nice itx board for the price honestly
I probably should have rma'd mine
Woah
oooo
That's a nice one
Decently priced too
For sure
A chipsets have been getting really good since A520
Felix convinced me to get it because he said he knew a guy who could get it to run 650 bios since its actually compatible but the guy just dissappeared off the face of the earth
lol
Bro got trolled by the aussie
Fr
Any opinions on the asrock x870 pro rs?
10$ more then the suggested asrock board but i like the looks
Yeah?
It's not even that outrageous too
Not at all
Yeah just don't want to get an 870 if it's 100% unnecessary
$10 is reasonable for aesthetics and the chipset perks
10$ is like a mcdonalds meal nowadays
I mean do you need it? No?
Is it not worth it? Eh, debatable
I don't eat fast food lol
Good
Here its usually about equal in price
My wife is a great cook and baker by trade. I got hooked up lol
Only difference is convenience really
Im the cook myself lol
Fast food costs more for less food
Actually made these last night, little bundt cakes with a homemade black/blueberry jam
I can make meals for dollars
Or even pennies
One mcdonalds meal is a week's worth of lunches for me
That is insane
And that is being very generous to mcdonalds
I could live on minute rice and be fine honestly
Im not picky
screams in Chinese
Trust me id rather prepare rice in a wok
We're like Italians
Rice cooker
Definitive way to cook rice
Depends what youre making really
I just bought me a nice rice cooker a couple days ago
I like fried rice a bit more
Hm
I should get one honestly
As an Asian I approve
I blend in in snow
You can technically make an entire meal in a rice cooker
Im as white as it gets
I've been meaning to get one. Cheap way to pad out my diet with rice rather than junk food
Oo yeah
Cheap*. We live in bird flu land
my dad knows a near famous football player that bakes these. Imagine someone that looks like the rock in an apron making these
My family is all about cooking in bulk
Oh god
My step dad made a 20 pound lasagna once ๐
You guys are making me hungry.
Way cheaper
Egg go brrr for $7-9 a pack
Ive seen pretty muscley people make the cutest things lol
I did football myself for a little bit
big bodybuilders bake the cutest stuff
Based
ironic
Nah i dont find it ironic tbh
you ever hear of nothing bundt cakes?
I can't really cook in bulk because I don't have enough fridge room to actually store food
Im 5'11 220lbs, i make blankets and bake
Nah you cook it strategically
I cook stuff that precisely use up one can of [insert ingredient] and one onion/capsicum/whatever
I have yee
So I don't have to store opened ingredients
that guy is the guy my dad knows, he's an ex college football player. big guy
Ah thats sick
If I cook I have to cook and eat it all at once or else I have to toss it because I have offensively limited fridge space to use. In a house we own. With 3 fridge freezers, 3 freezers and two mini fridges ๐
4 in the house total
Inefficient fridge space use imo
My mother has managed to stuff all of them to the gills
It's always the mother
And refuses to allow us to clear them out
IT'S ALWAYS THE MOTHER
I live with 3 and our fridge is usually stocked, its a half fridge half freezer and we have a large freezer in the basement, everythings stocked to the brim
I use a single fridge
Yikes, sounds like freezer burn and spoiling hell
It's not one of those plus size ones either
I don't even go in the stand alone freezers because 2 of them can't open and close properly due to all the crap inside
So they've snowed and iced over
Id be fine with that living alone
@plucky timber same kit you sent correct?
Or with one other
Not the same but
Actually, 3 minifridges, my sister has one
๐ญ
Also my mother buys a ton of junk. And is apparently very very deep in debt
Was looking for this kit
32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory is optimal rn
That's CL30
Damn Intel kit
๐ญ
Same difference
Worst case scenario you need to set a specific timing in bios manually
These should be good options i believe
So I could buy the "Intel xmp" kit and it would still work?
It's a design standard
It's the same as why gpus can connect to both Intel and amd mobos for example
It's software side
So won't work then
Just manually ha e to set the timing like bacca said
Bacca said you might
Depends what's in bios
I'm sure you can get help with that when the time comes
So I might have to set something and might not.
Just depends. But would be more seamless if I just find the amd expo set
100%
I mean youre gonna have to enable xmp anyways lol
That's what I'm best at.
๐ญ
Ok. I'll look a little longer to see if I can just find the expo set then if I can't I'll go this route.
Do what you feel like
For how much?
Price matters cuz there are many OLEDs that are 1440p 240hz
unless you can get that monitor for cheaper
Ooh $484 woled
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FZ8Pxr/asrock-phantom-gaming-oled-pgo27qfs-270-2560-x-1440-240-hz-monitor-pgo27qfs
Trying to get a new CPU for fortnite, need best performance but don't wanna spend too much on overkill, is the 9800x3d worth it over 7800x3d? or would 14900k be better? Thank you
Overkill? Depends. You got a 5090? 7700xt? 710?
I mean itโs like 10% performance you gotta see if the price difference is worth it for you
My local Walmart has 7800x3d for 399
If I didnโt already have the 9800x3d thatโd be what I bought but for a lot of people the diffence is $30 and for 10% performance I think thatโs a justified purchase
its 750aud vs 920 for me, 110 usd difference. So more than 10% price difference. So 7800x3d second best option anyway right?
Any chance you're fine with aliexpress?
There's a 7800x3d for 370 usd
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807755162613.html
Also a 7700 for $164 but thats besides the point
9800x3d is only abt 15% better, you're alr going to be getting high enough frames there won't really be a visual difference to most people
Especially if paired with anything less than a 4090
๐
ill look on aliexpress tho
what about a 9950x3d? or is the 7800x3d the best option around that 400-500usd range?
Ryzen 9s game a bit worse than ryzen 5s/7s do to multi ccd latency
9800x3d is still the preferred option for gaming
lol dw, thanks for the idea to look on aliexpress though, found one for $100 cheaper than local but sounds a bit too good to be true, is this legit? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007941462433.html
so go for 7800x3d?
I believe szcpu is the right seller, a couple of people here have bought from them before
Over the other listed options so far considering price, yes
yeah for the 400-500 price range
What GPU do you have?
3070
but since fortnite is very cpu dependent, will it matter?
What CPU and what resolution are you running it at?
rn 10850k on 1080p performance mode
Yeah seller looks legit
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1101244590
You could look at 7500f/7600/7700 pricing as well if you feel like it
Performance/$ wise they'll likely be much better priced
And they're all abt a 20% downgrade in games
for one? ๐ what the hell goin on there lmao
probably dont wanna go that low
reckon I'll just get the 7800x3d
thank you
also what would be a good motherboard to pair with it? dont need anything special, just something that will do the job with ddr5. Dont know much about them tho
Yea I don't think the rest would be a noticeable gain from 10850k, not too sure how CPU bound modern fortnite is, but if it is, 7800x3d should be a good 20%-30% gain if you're fully CPU bound
Cheapest board that has the USB ports you want, wifi if you need it, some kind of heatsink over the vrms, and have flashback
Judging by youtube videos its more than 50%
Nowadays 6000c30 ddr5 tends to be pretty reasonably priced
50% in a game that's fully CPU bound with a 4090, I'd estimate closer to 30% with a 3070 in Fortnite
Csgo benchmark numbers are kinda meaningless with the fps we're getting nowadays but at least it's useful for something that's mostly CPU bound lol
this person is getting around a 600 average while I barely get 300 https://youtu.be/yvL-tmVNGvo?si=CFkOLdoeQcVRi1_C

is that the best ram?
They're doing something that's pretty different from you then, likely other optimization
Tends to be the sweet spot right now
Any higher and you may need to tune it to get it stable
6000 is generally stable out of box
Fortnite tends to run a lot better on newer CPUs, I'm fully optimised and other people on similar cpus get the same results

alright appreciate that
Not a useful comparison when it doesn't have 7800x3d and is 10 months older than the other video
Different drivers, actual Fortnite updates, and possibly different settings today makes a difference
chatgpt suggestedASRock B650M Pro X3D WiFi, thoughts?
Although one thing is that they're using relatively bad ddr4 ram compared to the ddr5 they're using
Uh I don't think that exists
Oh apparently it does, but no one sells it rn lol
Be very careful with specific chatgpt suggestions for parts, half the time it doesn't exist, all of the time it can't check the price for you
Assuming Australia, this should be an option, only 1dpc but price seems reasonable
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/67031/msi-b650m-gaming-wifi-motherboard
nah 4o model gives site source citations, doesnt make those mistakes anymore
1dpc meaning 2 ram stick slots?
It's still based off secondary sources most of the time, price data won't be accurate, and it can still hallucinate even if it hallucinates less
1 dimm per channel, 2 slots total here
gave me amazon.com link to the motherboard and exact price as mentioned there
what does dimm mean?
sorry ๐
1 stick per ram channel?
but still 2 channels right?
Ye
Did they allow it access to the Internet now? That's a bit concerning lmao
yup
Be careful of Amazon scams then, cheapest seller isn't always legit
don't need wifi btw, still a good option?
Yea still decent
alright imma look around see what deals I can get, appreciate all the help
The only step up from that mobo would be $270 for an eagle ax, and performance wise it'll be identical
is a 700W psu enough btw for this upgrade? Calculators say so, but just wanna make sure
Already have this one https://www.umart.com.au/product/evga-700w-gq-80-gold-power-supply-21e-gq-700w-53856?srsltid=AfmBOopR9uX1d1dxG9_klyouPKyj-NaG1FXbkLRkEQ8NUK4yPwFgios5
alright thank you
Gq isn't the best but isn't a fire hazard lol
lasted me 4 years already so shouldnt be too bad right lol
When you go to upgrade gpu it'd be good to consider
Definitely, it's good for a mid tier gpu like the 3070, but i don't thinn it could handle something with stupid power spikes like a 3080 or 7900xt
this is super weird, that $600 one doesn't show up on the store page but when I add it to cart from search it shows the same store ๐คจ
Only 1 left, it might've reserved it for you as long as it's in your cart lol
It might also have been mislabeled
Double check the listing thoroughly
also says this on its page hmm
everything is identical
f it
lets see what I receive ๐
Yea looks fine to me but can never be sure
SZCPU is one of the most reliable Ali cpu sellers that I know of
"computer hardware global store" is considerably less catchy but also tons of sales and good reviews
Now I go to that same link after buying and it leads to the $700 one ๐ looks like I just snagged a $100 discount for absolutely no reason
sometimes there are first time buyer discounts
Wouldnโt it say something? and it was a different page, both came up in search results, but now the cheaper one is gone
idk
Anyway thatโs pretty irrelevant but thanks for the help @stoic island @mossy venture
You're welcome

And happy to help
Anyone know any good keyboard for gaming
My 20$ one is just not cutting it anymore
40$ budget
IT WORKS! Thank everyone who helped me, so glad its up and working!
nice
https://a.co/d/j82w5qE my main, different colors too if u scroll down
Is it accually good
For 20$
yeah i got mine for Christmas
@versed current
im probably gonna get the white one soon
its a really good budget mechanical keyboard
oh idk
Video won't load what
idk
Ya it's just discord being broken as always
it's almost like an image with the video player option ๐
Just realize the graphic card I got go back in stock on newegg
Hopefully I will get it ship soon...
Can I get some help. My pc isnt powering on anymore. When I unplug one of the cables from the motherboard and plug it back in one of the fans starts to spin. What am I doing wrong
Try clearing cmos
It cut on when I slowly plugged it in and held the power button
Is this a prebuilt or custom built pc? What specs and how old is the machine?
7600x or 12600kf
I'd have to buy ddr5 if i go with the 7600x though
and idk how beefy of a cooler a 7600x needs
7600 non x, cheaper and comes with a cooler
If you got the 7600X it would take just about any single tower cooler, $15-20
is the 9600x the successor to the 7600x?
12600 doesn't have much of an upgrade path available to it but you can always pop a 9800X3D into the AM5 board in a few years and get a +40% boost
Yes but it's not much better at gaming, about 5% on average
The 9000 series has been lovingly called Zen 5% for this reason
Except the 9800X3D, that thing is a monster
Yep one of the better cheap options
What memory should i get then, not familiar with ddr5
You can run an overclocked 7950X on it and it wouldn't have any problems
Aim for 6000 speed, c30 or 32
Ill get it on amazon even though its a whopping 2 cents more i think
Probably faster shipping that way
Idk i like their returns since theres a return kiosk where i work
Perfect
As long as you still have your AM4 bracket because it should be the same for AM5
I used it on lga1151 but i still have the box it came in
Whole Foods does too now
And there's automated kiosks in more locations for returns
Does it have software?
And can I change the color
OpenRGB is the software to use for everything
Thanks
OpenRGB > SignalRGB

MageGee 75% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Red Switch, LED Blue Backlit Keyboard, 87 Keys Compact TKL Wired Computer Keyboard for Windows Laptop PC Gamer - Black/Grey https://a.co/d/iWBkckv
This a good keyboard?
Thoughts on newegg refurb gpus?
refurbished is always hit or miss
i mean i'm sure some people have a real crap experience because they were unlucky
its still buying second hand so ymmv
Not usually that bad. If it's actually Newegg doing the refurb they test it for basic function.
Worst case is odd issues like screen artifacts when vram gets to a certain % use, and you're covered by a (short) warranty in case of issues like that.
I am going to build a streaming pc i dont don't know what hardware to get i know i want to play games in 4k. Also i would like to to back up my videos to my unraid nas bud i also need help building it too
Budget?
Do you already have your unraid nas?
And what are you trying do with it?
6k and no i dont. i got a gaming pc i was thinking about retrieing but its not ecc
plex jellyfin backups video project back up audiobook backup ebook backup.
GTA Harry potter COD NBA retro ganes like emulators i plan on live streaming to twitch too.
what specs is that by any chance?
you can probably upgrade that to use as the streaming pc or nas
also you don't really need ECC in a consumer user case
a lot of us here run servers with consumer hardware
it is to edit 4k video ? i did not know that
you can be efficient with it
sweet
you can also record at a efficient bitrate
and it'll cut down on the storage costs
an intel cpu might actually be a good idea since it comes with quicksync
hmm
what would you recomentd for 4k gaming videos for youtube and twitch
12tb x5 -54tb in total r9 5900 32gb ddr4 3600 radaon vii
honestly you'd be fine to just upgrade the gpu
for the main pc
you'd be saving thousands
ok
how much storage do you want for the nas?
@mossy venture any gpu recommendations for this fella?
he wants a 4K gaming pc
gpu prices are inflated as all hell at the moment so I have no idea what to recommend
full 4k ripk wirh dolby atmos. Plus i was going to put my edited videos on the nas just in case plus i was going to put the roms on the nas since i dont have fiber optic internet
how are they ripped?
you are probably better off buying a used server at the scale of 100TB+
or at least used server hardware
i was going to rip my own 4k i modifed my blu ray drive.. ok where do i go? and how do i put it in a rackmount 4u case + nuctua fans to make the server quite
as in just buying a used server
you might want to ask the peeps in #storage-devices for where to find used enterprise hardware
as for the streaming pc upgrade...
this is quite literally the worst possible time to buy a 4K graphics card
darn it
4080 super the price of 4090s
that single asrock 7900XTX is the only thing not overpriced
and where do i get it
thank you
It'll be a massive upgrade from your Radeon VII
that's for sure
but is it the best 4K gpu?
eh
no
but it's quite literally the most powerful gpu that's not at a stupidly inflated price
I wouldn't buy it yet
I'd wait for some second opinions from techies
once they get online
i dont really care i plan on upgrading when the prices drop
what what the 45 home lab
?
45 drives
I'm not too familiar with server grade hardware sorry
I'm mostly on the consumer side
Hi
is this good ram? price is insanely cheap compared to other same spec options https://www.umart.com.au/product/sp-silicon-power-xpower-pulse-32gb-2x16gb-cl30-ddr5-6000mhz-gaming-memory-supports-intel-xmp-amd-expo-udimm-desktop-pc-computer-ram-memory-78455
Silicon power is always a solid option
yep good ram
Forgot these existed
Anyways, can't wait for Vega to come down in price
$100 cheaper than other 6000mhz ddr5 cl30 options lol
Silicon gaming is whatโs in the wifeโs pc
0 problems with it
silicon gaming lmao
Silicon power gaming
Thatโs what itโs called lmao
we all gaming on silicon
hey
are those prices due to the 5080 kind of sucking and people buying the XTX instead?
People bought the xtx because 50 series is unobtainium
And also because the XTX often matches or beats the 5080 still because it's only a minor upgrade over the 4080
If you count ray tracing then yeah the gap is that much
I was aware of the cod win but cod is very oddly AMD favoured
Otherwise itโs close enough to consider the xtx, and when the xtx was around $800 there was a bigger incentive
Too bad the pulse is $920 now
Kinda wish I could have gotten it at that price
how much do you think i can get for meshify 2 xl 60tb enterprise hdds 1 is failing i think Ryzen 9 5900x Corsair 850 w modular PSU 32 GB 3600 Non RGB Ram
At least $30
$30 dollers
1$
lolz
lol i am going to buy 3090 buy 15 20tb hdds a 16 port hba
Breakfast club

People give them money so they do it more. We, collectively as consumers, need to stop falling for it.
that would require people to grow eyes
tbh the real issue is that there is literally absolutely no mandatory classes on cybersec
you have to manually seek out information on how to detect scams
if everyone knew the basics, like at least 80% of the scams i see would be easily found, leaving only the extra sneaky ones
the amount of reddit posts I see asking about if this seller thhey bought from was a legit seller and the name is just as if a cat ran across a keyboard
I currently have a GTX 1060 3GB GPU, I am looking to upgrade in the coming months but I dont want to blow my banks back out (or wallet) What would be a good gpu upgrade that would be a large performance upgrade so I can play games at decent framerates but not cost thousands while maintaining lasting performance for a few years?
alright, what would you recommend if I wanted to stay in the nvidia range?
4070 ti perhaps
Whatโs your budget?
thats where it gets tricky. overall, the budget would be somewhere around 5k but thats to build 3 complete computers and get a graphics card for mine. R9 3900x should still be good for a bit I think. although may need more than 32gb 3600mhz. its getting dated when it comes to tarkov.
idk, I havent been in touch with pc building as a whole.
Gimme a moment and Iโll have a basic list drawn up
I have amd because I do other things such as programming, modelling, recording and editing. the others would only be gaming builds so I thought about going intel for them as last time I was in touch with computers. amd was multitasking but intel was better for just gaming.
although with 3gb vram I can only really use unity. blender takes awhile to render and I cant even run unreal. I struggle enough with games made by unreal.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Radeon RX 7900 XT, Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower
AMD is just better overall nowadays with their X3D CPUs
AM5 is also just a banger compared to Intels latest stuff
Basic list, can be improved, but 3 of those will do plenty
would you pay the extra for a X3D personally?
Needs a gpu for himself
Might drop the 7900xt to something a little cheaper and add some 1440p monitors
ok
I just replaced the motherboard
And itโs still not working
But now it doesnโt even post
With a brand new fresh mobo
But with the last one
It would atleast post
To an error
Itโs not working at all
Idk what keep going wrong
Brand new cpu
New ram
New Gpu
I tried a new MOBO
AND A DIFFERENT
SSD
still not working.
Itโs not posting now
!!!
Power supply?
What error?
Errors are usually useful for troubleshooting
It was a few months ago
It just said
Couldnโt boot
Trying to boot in recovery mode
But it would never boot into it
It would just shut off mid load
And not turn on unless you flipped the PSU switch and try again
And it would just repeat
I also tried everything else then
New Gpu, ssd, tried 1 ram in each slot with both of the ram,
I know the cpu works cause itโs new
Gpu also worked I tried it with another build
Motherboard for sure works cause I just unboxed it and swapped out everything.
Im going to try a new PSU
But wait, it canโt be cause it worked with the old motherboard and it gave power to the GPU
Im so lost sorry for ranting but this pc, this is the 5th time something happens to it
Motherboard says AMD 5000 series compatible
And the cpu is a RYZEN 7 5700X
Itโs compatible right?
Oh, itโs says this
Does it not work with the X?
5000 series compatible means all 5000 series cpus are compatible. 5700x is 5000 series
The last motherboard worked with it
Ok so it is compatible then
So then why does this pc keep having issues
It doesnโt want to post I just switched out everything.
This would indicate that the PSU protections were triggered. That could be a bad unit or a bad connection somewhere causing a short.
Everything on it is new or a different part that I know 100% works
Oh lord I hate swapping psus
Im going to take out the PSU tester, im going to test if its working
Give me a second
The 5700X is one of the last releases on the AM4 platform so the motherboard may support 5000 series, but not all of them unless you update.
The pc does not even post so maybe I do have to update?
Im not sure
Hold on ill send psu test results
Did you say what model the motherboard was?
So the psu is fine
Hm
I guess
This pc is so weird
Im going to try to flash the bios
I already tried clearing cmos
So itโs the last thing I can try
Iโll brb
That board doesn't have any kind of flashback so you'd need an older CPU to flash the bios with
Yeah.
Great.
Hm
I have an older one but I really donโt want to take it out the PC
Im going to have too ๐
Im going to do this tomorrow
we have decent 144hz 1080p monitors. none of us really plan on playing any higher than 1080p currently.
Is this a burn in?
Scratch I think
Bro i hate cable management
If you hate it, can't you just... not do it?
no
real
i hate cable management
but you know what i hate even more
no cable management
cableless?
I want to see more arcs in a PC than a Tesla coil or backstock of Arc cards
I mean cables kinda hard to remove but I think them testing out back connectors is neat
technically my case is compatible with back connected cables but this wasnt the case I originally planned to build in
any recs for a good am5 board with usb 4?
have someone asking about adding thunderbolt 3 to his am4 system but the current motherboard doesn't support it so I feel like getting am5 with usb 4 is a better move than buying a new am4 board and a thunderbolt card
although he is still happy with the performance so a hardware upgrade isn't strictly necessary
I believe x870 and x870e are the chipsets with usb4
They're the ones that have it required, other models can have it too like this one that has dual USB 4 type C ports https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B650E-AORUS-PRO-X-USB4-rev-10#kf
Most of the lower tier chipset models that have USB4 appear to be sold out, or they just have a thunderbolt header which defeats the purpose here. Looks like these might be good options. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare?CompareItemList=13-145-521R%2C13-119-687R%2C13-162-166%2C13-145-520R&compareall=true
All 4 have dual 40Gbps ports
@potent portal
remember the pc from yesterday
Will a R5 2600 work on the motherboard?
Yes
It should but I'll double check just in case
Well this looks like one of the rare cases that Zen+ like that is not supported
welp
im screwed
in that case i do not have another compatible cpu
Can i reseat the cpu and turn it on without the cooler?
That's a major oversight from Asus, no Zen+ support AND no flashback ๐
Asus be like that
Asus sucks
Yes, but don't leave it on for too long, and you can touch the CPU to see if it gets warm. If it is, that means it's working on something and passed the CPU portion of POST.
Eh having a spare tube around is always nice
Never know when you want to spontaneously change coolers
@potent portal I forget did you have a xtx?
ok so
cpu works guys
its warm
still not posting
BUT
one thing i do notice
is
the gpu doe not spin up when powered on
Usually doesnโt
Lots of current gpus donโt spin til they hit a threshold in heat
I will try a different cpu if my brother lets me take his apart
Ill brb
gona use another cpu
At this pint its had every issue
before i swapped mobo it would not boot
So what are the general issues just no post?
it would just give a "booting into secure boot"
What lights
then it would jsut shut off
now w new mobo it doesnt even post
it has none
both of the motherboards didnt havbe any error lights
The mobo has no debug lights?
Wack
How low end are these monos
Unfortunately neither did
the new one is a B550M-A Wifi ll
the previous was an asus tuf b450?
i dont remember
Ive tried new gpu, cmos, ram (in each slot), new NVME, new mobo
pc still having issues
and the cpu is new
not even 5 months old
just recently purchased and it was working on old mobo
what could the issue be
do yall think its a bad cpu?
I have no way of testing if its a bad cpu
Jeez these are barebones
i would buy
but its my cousin
and i dont want him to buy another mobo
this will be the 3rd
last time we thought it was a mobo issue
new mobo got here i swapped everything
still not working
Yes
good old days of beep codes
Yeah i wish either of these boards had a way of showing the error
it does
i DO NOT want to buy a 3rd cpu
Man Iโm so used to at least debug lights nowadays
How
you just need a piezoelectric speaker
I do not have that/
Third cpu?
or you could probably probe the speaker headers to see when the voltage goes up
The cpu was upgraded to the current one
R7 5700 x
original was a r5 5500
even with the og cpu pc still had issues
but not as bad
is X3D on the AMD cpus worth it? if so, what X3D processor would you recommend. I currently have a 3900x 12 core. I dont really plan on dropping to 8 core but im also not quite sure if the performance of the 8 core X3Ds are better than the 12 core 3900x
and where more software based
Depends
You a gamer?
indeed
if you game, 100% (at msrp)
Itโs good if gaming is very important
so far the heaviest game I play seems to be escape from tarkov
But if you need a workhorse itโs gonna be worse
so X3D would not be ideal for programming, modeling and or video editing?
it will do fine on those
X3d is clocked lower than their not X3d variants
so do i just buy a new cpu?
the 3d vcache pretty much only benefits gaming though
imo yes it's worth it, and yes the 8 core have better gaming performance than the 12 core.
The 5700X3D would be a massive upgrade for you, roughly 40% more frames in some circumstances, particularly CPU limited gaming at 1080p.
It will be worse at multi threaded rendering and modeling due to fewer cores but most of that is done on the GPU now anyway.
They also suck less juice
But thatโs probably because they are clocked lower
im about to buy a r5 5500 for this motherboard
Like no lights or anything go when you try to post?
will it even work with the motherboard? what if it doesnt post with the new one either
Just the rgb
on the mobo
buy a piezo speaker
it's like 5 bucks for 10 of them (you only really need one of them though tbh)
Or if youโre not averse to returning stuff and have say a Walmart nearby
Eh
a fair bit of companies specifically say that cpus and such cant be refunded after opened
Not all geek squads are built equal
Best Buy is pretty much like Amazon when it comes to returns
amazon doesnt allow cpu returns when opened though
so can i swap it there>
specifically stated in their return policy
i jsut need to diagnose this
they added it like a few years ago afaik
too many people were probably buying a brand new cpu and returning it opened
costco does the same thing as well with tvs
The issue at costco was people would buy the biggest tv they could, use it for the super bowl, and return it after. They don't sell open box items so they had to slash the screens and throw them away.
Abuse it and lose it
though even with amazon selling open box through their amazon warehouse deals, it's still a loss if people constantly buy new then return the cpu
i assume it happened enough that amazon had enough of it lmao
Ngl maybe I shoulda bought a best buy membership
I buy a lot from them and a 60 day return policy for members is kinda nice
Too bad itโs probably not retroactive
how well would the 5700X3D handle 1440p? I have no plans on 4k anywhere in the near future but I feel like maybe 1440p wouldnt be that bad to jump to from 1080p (budget wise)
It's only $6 cheaper to get an open box 7700X vs new on amazon
Itโll be fine
i wish
1440p shifts more of the load to the GPU so the CPU has less impact on performance
5800x3d is the peak of am4 gaming cpus and the 5700x3d is like at max a 10% perf difference
The 5800X3D is also impossible to cool
Where did you just find a 5500
Lmao
I wonder if you can return an opened open box cpu ๐ง I didn't see anything about that on the general return policy
Though I assume most may be buying new originally
Ngl thatโs pretty fast
tried 2 cpus on a new mobo
Speed racer over here
You tried everything?
yup
Single stick of ram, etc.
how impossible? I have a 420 AIO but as for as socket. if its AM4 I wouldnt need a new mobo. I think im am4 anyway. what ever the 3900x is
I mean if you exhausted all options I guess yeah gotta return the mobo
R9
Itโs just AMD really pushed the 5800x3d to its limits
It will hit tjmax on a 420mm aio
it arrived 2 days ago
i opened it yesterday
5700x3d is pretty much the same thing with a lower clock speed iirc
So think of the 5800x3d as like the binned juiced out variant
so the 5700x3d is still am4 aswell?
Like how intel used to have those special binned cpus
either this part combo is NOT compatible
Yes
or something is horribly wrong
Should just upgrade the bios before it comes in just in case
But if you have a b550 itโs probably fine
Generally youโll be fine
could 5700x3d run 3600mhz ddr4? I currently have 32gb but I have been considering a increase to 64gb or maybe more depending
b550s were out a long time befoer 5700x3d
it should handle 2x32 at 3600
im not gauranteeing it tho
new mobo didnt work, new cpu didnt work, new ssd didnt work, new gpu didnt work, ram didnt work.
I mean you have a 3900x so Iโm guessing you might have a b450
B550
what would you recommend with more of a gaurantee in the terms of 64gb or more? or would it be better to switch the a board that runs ddr5 or 6 or what ever we are on now.
3200mhz would def be fine. what do you use the pc for?
and youd be swapping cpus too to run ddr5
Do you have a need for 64gb or more?
With 32GB of matched memory absolutely. 64GB might not do that.
Itโs a whole platform upgrade is expensive
If I had am4 I woulda popped a 5700x3d in but Iโm upgrading from z490
Mainly gaming some games I host servers for my brothers and friends but some of those games use up quite a bit of ram when playing the game and running a server for up to around 8 people (max sometimes its mostly 5-6). then besides that, recording and editing. streaming if I can get better internet or maybe starlink is good for gaming now idk. then I use unity game engine more on the scripting side with 3d modeling coming in last and least important
tarkov also seems to eat about 24gb out of my 32 currently so if I record and play tarkov thats my 32gb used right htere
Allocation ainโt really the same as utilization
and whats your current build?
What are you looking at to measure this?
task manager mostly.
There's your problem
Itโs been a while since I recorded while playing but it never took 8 gb of ram to record
R9 3900x, gtx 1060 3GB (I know, I built this during the gpu shortage and my old 1060 was all I had. havent been able to afford a gpu since.) 32 gb ddr4 3600mhz. I forget the exact watts of the psu but I got a couple of ssds and HDDs
420 arctic AIO
Task manager shows total usage including apps that aren't running and memory not currently in use but reserved by something
you planning on a gpu upgrade?
If you want a bigger boost in frames gpu is more of a priority
as far as the psu I think it was 750 or 850, it was one of the highest or second highest you could get from the D.F Revolution series
A 3gb 1060 is def holding you back more than a 3900x
This, especially if you're considering 1440p at some point soon
that is the plan. very much so. Just havent really decided on which. I know id like to stick with nvidia and be able to do 1440p unless the difference between 1080p and 1440p breaks the wallet
CPU is still important but the high in res you go the more gpu limited you get
Well the monitors are rather cheap now but itโs getting a gpu thatโs expensive
As of now thatโs your limiting factor
3900x isnโt the greatest anymore but youโll see more benefit from a gpu upgrade
Even in cpu heavy games
I went from a 1060 3gb to a 2070 with a R5 2700 and doubled my fps
it gets the job done for sure. I dont think ive ever seen it go above 60% (task manager) 45%-50% on the dragon center.
then again though, I play EVERYTHING on lowest settings 1080p to try and hit my monitors 144hz
ok guys
i made an entirely new pc
still not working
none of the parts are the same
Where are you getting these parts
like genuinely
New egg
and amazon
and the funny thing is
all the parts do work
No I mean like you just have a bunch on hand ?
yes'
PC of Theseus. I have one of those myself. Replaced every part in it.
Still doesn't work
2070 still holding up to todays titles? with the 1060 I cant play anything that is on the new unreal engine version or using DX12
My best guess is whatever was bad took out other parts, and switching parts one at a time made it kill the replacement parts as well
I would not buy a 2070 in 2025
but the replacements work
i tested them
all of them
they are all from different builds
Unless you get one for like $80
It would be good enough, at least you'd have 8GB of VRAM which would solve your unreal issue
Generally though a 2070 will cost about as much as a 3060 and I'd rather have the 3060
Same performance level but the 3060 has 12GB
Well some do
(don't get the crap-o 8GB model)
Not all
IT WEOJRD
IT PSOTED
OMG
I TRIED A NEW RAM STICJ
BUT IT DIDNT WORK BEFORE?
WTH
Ram is like the first thing to test ngl
i did
And it was one of the first things tested
Not with the new frankensteined build though right?
havent quite figured it out exactly. Unless I can get a personal loan of about 8k or so, I think im working with about 5k to build 3 gaming pcs and upgrade this one. (priority on the gpu)
ez
Why do you need 3 gaming PCs?
Idk maybe itโs because I consider it a luxury albeit a useful one
You can build quite decent PCs for around 1k
Itโs a good time for cases rn
Ssds are a bit meh
But yeah 5k is plenty for 3 PCs and an upgrade unless yโall are trying to play 4k
Gpus are dicey rn
well, I have 3 brothers. we game alot every other week when our oldest brother is home but outside of me having the 3900x and 32gb of ram (needed it for work at the time after my old one died.) they are all 3 still gaming on 16gb ddr3 and i5 4570S cpus. not ideal for this day and age. we all have 1060 3GB
the goal is 1440p unless its gonna save us money or be better to build them with 1080p in mind.
not entirely at first. we all have 1080p 144hz monitors. they dont need headsets, mice or keyboards. so just the pc. we could probably get 1440p monitors down the road on payments from best buy or something
Like as in splitting up the budget
I mean you can get decent 1440p monitors sub $200 now
Honestly the PCPartPicker $1000 template isnโt the worst
priority is getting them to ddr4 at the least with cpus that can handle mainly gaming. if we have to roll with the 1060s for a bit thats fine. ive been doing it for years, their problem is cpu and ram bottlenecking them from playing.
Prob swap out the 4000d for personal preference or the new frame 4000d
Well the 1k template is a am5 build
Gpu is a lil pricey
Could def be cheaper
Do these need Wi-Fi?
no wifi. we are all hardwired
are you talking about this $1k build?
https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/JKD48d/great-intel-gaming-build
Great Intel Gaming Build
I was looking at the AMD one
This is like a sub $20 difference
Ngl it was pretty spot on for the current pricing
Probably swap the selected power supply for another one though
If you arenโt in a hurry you can see what AMD cooks up
Maybe the prices go down or maybe the prices get worse
Depends on if AMD delivers
guys i fixed it
going am4 to lga1700 doesn't really make sense imo
??? im lost
Lga1700 is ded going on
that list links to an intel cpu doesn't it?
No potential upgrades
that was refering to building my brothers pcs. all 3 of theirs are going to be complete from the ground up. their psus are non modular, the cases have all these gaps and are terrible (cheap prebuilt on payment plans)
14600kf and z790-s wifi from gigabyte come with free 32gb and 1tb ssd on newegg, $335
grab those
exactly, you get it. ๐คฃ
If Iโm being honest the suggested 1k more like 1200 build is not to bad
The am5 one
Itโs just the price for the 7800xt is not the greatest rn
Cheapest motherboard with crappy vrms, crappy psu, case with sus airflow, potentially contains corsair vengeance
I hate prebuilts
They charge premium prices for the cheapest crap
