In the PC world, it's best to use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit as it's easier. That being said, 40c is normal idle temps.

a little on the warm side, but just set your fans at 50% and see if that goes down.

Afterburner doesn't have anything to do with the CPU, but yes it is recommended for nvidia GPU's if you plan on overclocking it.

You can use Afterburner to set a custom fan curve for your GPU, but I'd rather just use FanControl since I can control any fan from my PC in it's UI in windows.

It's best to find the limits of your card yourself by increasing core in increments and running timespy after each increment. Then do the same for memory. This is because what works for 1 card may not work for another. You might find you can OC more than someone else or you may not be able to OC at all.

I don't trust the automatic overclock.

It's a benchmark used to test stability for GPU overclocking. The demo version is free on steam and it's all you need. Basically every increment you increase your core/memory, you run the benchmark. Compare the benchmark score at the end each time. Higher is better. If you see any weirdness when the benchmark is running, then your OC is not stable and you need to back off the clocks a tad until it stops bein funky.

If you don't mind not overclocking then I wouldn't worry about it. I would however, set the Power Limit % and Temp Limit sliders in afterburner all the way to the right.

That'll allow you to eek out a little bit of perf for no work.

Having some thermal issues; I swapped my ram because my last set was defective in some way and also switched thermal paste brands from deepcools like house brand to NT-H1

And before I had around 80C under load but with the new brand it’s 95C
