Many games where the game engine is bogged down with excessive logic and inefficiencies a better CPU can bandaid some of the painfully slow parts of the game, but it's an extremely niche case for upgrading

You never "need" to spend 2k on it. The issue is that it's a trap that TONS of BDO players fall into, especially if they want to compete with the top players. I would rather play a game with a 15$ monthly subscription than an MMO with any sort of cash shop.
Really, I think even cosmetic items in a cash shop on an MMO are too much. Items you get when playing a game like that should be something you earn no matter what, and having the ability to pay for an outfit, especially one that gives you an ingame effect is a ridiculous concept.
That being said, I love the game itself. The game was fantastically made and the combat system has always been my favorite MMO combat system. The mobs are good and grinding can be fun. They should have geared the game more towards end game and I think the RNG factor in the gear is a bit of a killer

In my time playing I've just passively collected gear enhancing mats in mass, enough to just about instantly TRI any gear I get, and TET would only take a bit more effort :)

That's fine, if you enjoy the game I'm not going to stop you, but that's what's stopping most people who buy the game from playing. It makes you want to buy these things, and they make TONS of money on people who spend thousands of dollars on the game. The issue is that because of this, the game is never going anywhere. It has a consistant playerbase of about 10,000-20,000 people who play the game because they enjoy it, but that's it. Because of the limitations the game set on itself with the insane RNG factors and the cash shop, people don't want to play it.

At minimum, to be considered "competitive" (When I stopped playing), you needed to have a campsite ($50), 5 pets; preferably t3 or up (50-400$ depending on RNG), a desert Ghillie (30$?), max inventory space (80$?), max weight limit (80$?), max workers in certain towns to efficiently use workers to make money (40$?) and god knows how many artisans memories.

the grind isn't really bad, people just focus way too much on only killing things efficiently and ignore the rest of the game
I never really had a problem with heavy grind cause as someone who focuses on the professions there are many different things to do, I never burn out on just a single task
though I might have gone a bit insane with materials collection... having millions of materials to process and craft with is a bit overkill 
the 530% exp scrolls are a very limited amount, you only get 53 to use between all your characters and you aren't supposed to use them all right away, more like save them for a high level exp push

I've played and sampled many MMOs but nothing beats the story telling of Star Trek Online, they throw out any sort of traditional MMO questing for formatting the game into "episodes" that are long multipart things that are like you are playing through an episode of the show with an original story.
Through the power creep and lack of any sort of professions makes the endgame very dry.
Games like Archeage and Black desert have insanely deep professions that you could pretty much just do as an entire playstyle. I love playing as a seafaring merchant that ships cargo across the ocean in BDO more than playing the PVP endgame

The PVE content is different than most MMOs there are no dungeons or raids, it's all a continuous persistent world and world and field bosses spawn daily, and a few larger bosses spawn weekly. There are also bosses that spawn about once a week for players to solo in a seamless instance.
And there are sea monsters and ghost ships for us seafaring players as well as a giant weekly naval combat boss.
