if you can spend some time tuning ram it's not too bad. OEM 32GB A die is like $200 and some change on ebay, and CPUs/board are hella cheap. GPU is a bit cursed, but even still $550 for an open box 9070 isn't unbearable

i paid like $60 for a decent 1TB TLC drive with a dram cache, and that was just typical pricing. ended up spending $220 on a 2TB QLC (new QLC tbf) with an SLC cache, and $80 on a 1TB used 980 pro

mine at 8000 cl38 bc i have the stronger motherboard, hers at 7200 cl something or other (i kinda forgor)

it's not too bad if you stick to 'easy' limits. pushing 8000 was cursed bc my CPU has an absolute garbage tier uncore, so whenever i'd boost D2D and NGU to actually get the bandwidth out of my sticks, the CPU would freak out, and it looked like memory errors bc it was stable at lower dram frequency

if you optimize around the margins (ie my fiance gets full benefit of 7200mb/s ram at stock NGU/D2D) it's kinda just plug and play

early micron DDR5 is no fun to tune though. that is one experience i never wrapped my head around because it was so unfun that i just gave up

I managed to get mystery DDR4 from 3600 to 3733 without increasing any of the major timings, managed to trim tRAS down 3 and tighten some other timings after many many hours over multiple days

Best part is when the PC would crash after I ended the ram testing
