grand kernel
upper rain
# idle nexus I thought they separated that?

i can never find a straight answer but my intuition is that on more recent architectures it is separated. at least the satas and stuff are, but since NVME is just PCIE, and afaik BCLK affects PCIE still, NVME might get quirky. but i have no idea lol

grand kernel

I don't

zipties>>>

grand kernel
#

I've had enough of jank in my last build

#

I want a solution that's not jank

idle nexus
#

any small L bracket would probably be fine to mimic ASUS's thing

upper rain
#

zipties are simply superior to any other form of mounting unless they truly will not work

grand kernel
#

trust me

#

in my last build I had an internal monitor hooked up through a gaping hole in the back of the case

upper rain
#

they are the platonic archetype of mounting

grand kernel
#

so I used an elaborate ziptie arrangement to mount a lian li arrangement suspended within that gaping hole in the back of the case

#

and it was sturdy enough that I could actually press the buttons on it

rancid juniper
#

why do sodimm ram modules have such high timings?

upper rain

grand kernel

like I had chains of zipties holding zipties

upper rain
grand kernel
#

I am no stranger to jank

rancid juniper
grand kernel
#

but for once I want something a little more elegant ya know

upper rain
#

lappies don't have XMP for whatever reason so XMP sodimms don't really exist

#

so they just run jedec

rancid juniper
#

wow...

upper rain
#

which is completely anemic

grand kernel
#

tbh even on a laptop that can do manual ram oc

rancid juniper
#

yea cuz i was looking around for 32gb 5600mhz ram and found two options CL46 and CL40

grand kernel
#

the timings you can achieve aren't nearly as good as on desktop

rancid juniper
#

picked CL46 because it was much cheaper

grand kernel
#

denser, probably lower quality pcbs probably play a role in that

rancid juniper
#

the Gskill CL40 was like $95

upper rain
#

bc jedec 3200 is already supported, and the signal integrety requirements from tightening timings are marginal compared to upping frequency

grand kernel
#

best I was able to achieve on my 2x8gb kit was 3600 19-20-20

upper rain
#

makes sense

grand kernel
#

2x16 3200 17-20-20

rancid juniper
#

lappies have such limited control

grand kernel

1.3 vdimm in both cases

upper rain

they're engineered to fail

rancid juniper

💀

grand kernel

rancid juniper
grand kernel

3200 gear 1 on the 2x16 kit runs at 0.9V SA

upper rain
#

did you see that waterproof gel coating at computex or whatever? yeah, nobody is using that despite adding a couple of $ max to manufacturing costs because why on earth would you make a laptop that might (God forbid) last more than a year or two?

#

I mean considering a lot of people won't even run +200 on pbo

#

anything higher than 5.5 is great already

upper rain
rancid juniper
#

OC voltage scaling on my 13600k goes too far after 5.3ghz
5.2 GHZ : 1.095v needed
5.3 GHZ : 1.130v needed
5.4 GHZ: 1.19v needed

upper rain
grand kernel
#

7800x3d was typically running barely 5.0ghz wasn't it?

upper rain
#

i really don't know jack about zen 5 lol. i saw zen 5% at launch and stopped watching kekw

upper rain
#

it caps at 5.05 physically. iirc it straight up lacks registers for higher

#

have to BCLK for moar

grand kernel
#

idk, +200 pbo gets me 5425mhz so even 5.5ghz is a big boost if I can get that stable

upper rain
#

neato!

#

you should delid (lol)

grand kernel
#

pbo + bclk seems to make it slower than without bclk

upper rain
#

i went from like 5.2 to 5.4 on my 7700x that way. before i destroyed its cap anyway 😔

grand kernel

can't be bothered to delid ever since they started soldering chips

rancid juniper

imma try to run the software through intel igpu instead

upper rain

and my mount was abysmal lol

grand kernel
#

cores 1-7 got higher effective clocks, core 0 got quite a bit slower

upper rain
#

weird

grand kernel
#

static oc is actually giving me effective clocks as expected

#

I'm sticking to 1.31v maximum

#

sad, 5575mhz not stable either

rancid juniper
#

i know that cpu pushing past 200w easy

grand kernel
#

nope

#

145w lol

rancid juniper
#

WHAT

grand kernel

#

rancid juniper
#

i guess it goes to show how inefficient raptorlake actually is

grand kernel
#

I figure if I run something heavier I'll hit thermal throttle and not actually get 5550mhz

rancid juniper
#

well turning off HT/Ecores will drop wattage but

#

id rather use it all

grand kernel
#

I'll test heavier later but rn I'm using the same test I've been using for PBO

#

damn, 5550mhz not stable either

rancid juniper

grand kernel

5525mhz still equivalent to +300 pbo so

hope that's stable lol

grand kernel

I'm looking for daily

1.31v max

rancid juniper
#

Ah

grand kernel
#

that's the number AMD gave

#

realistically I'll be happy with anything above 5425mhz

rancid juniper
#

best to try all options

grand kernel
#

since 5425mhz is the limit at PBO +200

#

but it looks like I have a lot of voltage headroom

#

ofc will be extra happy with 5.5+ cause nice number

man it feels wrong to do static oc on ryzen lol

grand kernel

top bracket should be able to center a 120mm fan

just ordered the white top mount bracket I posted earlier, hopefully it works out

#

maybe a 120mm fan will allow me to daily 1.6+ vdd again

why is 5.5ghz static oc running cooler than 5425mhz pbo lol

1/2" copper fits in regular 16mm compression fittings really well. My biggest issue was 90s. of course you can just use dual compression fittings but that's kind of expensive. I bought 90s to solder on but my soldering skills made me not use them. I also got a crossbow bender but didn't realize how horrible the bend radius is. 3" bend for a 90 is huge in a computer case

#

plus you gotta anneal the copper

#

I tried using refrigeration pipe too but even with that tool to straighten it, it doesn't get perfectly straight like regular Type L/M sticks
