repasting the GPU can be daunting to someone who's never done it before but you really only need a screwdriver or allen key small enough to take the screws out; a cup or something so you don't lose the little heckers; some thermal paste; isopropyl alcohol; & paper towels

once you do, it's just a matter of cleaning the old paste off (paper towels & rubbing alcohol) then reapplying. Thermal paste is non-conductive so you don't have to worry about making a mess or anything (within reason)
