Actually, I typically start by resetting the BIOS withint he BIOS itself. If that doesn't work, THEN I use the jumper and power on the computer with the jumper on the correct "Clear_CMOS" pins

If I for some reason just don't have a jumper, that's when I take the battery out. But I usually have jumpers with me when I have to do that kind of operation
