ok ty
when you say the following: "just copied all my files from my old ssd using the software acronis" <- do you mean, you booted to a usb stick and then copied things?
I got a new m.2 drive so I cloned my old ssd into it so I can use it as m main storage device and use it as a booter
There’s a pop up now during the cloning process saying failed to read sectors 11,021,760 oh hard disk 1
This is me recloning it rn since u told me to
if that sector is related to the boot sector, then you are out of luck
Can I send u a photo of the pop up
sure :)
are expansion card good for multiple storage?
you mean like raid cards?
@untold grove @ the user if you are curious :) only way to make certain they have not forgotten they even asked :)
you mean raid cards or just straight pcie to sata cards/pcie to nvme cards?
answer to all those questions is yes though for the average person tho
:)
also makes it much easier for yourself to actually figure out why someone is answering something completely out of context a week later :)
lmao true
just need extra storage
i dont know anything about raid or what its properties is.
@untold grove
you dont have more sata ports free?
generally your board will have at the VERY LEAST like 4 sata ports
do you not have m.2 slots on your board?
how many do you plan to add?
ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 PCIe 4.0 X4 Expansion Card Supports 4 NVMe M.2
this one, is this good?
2 or more
thatll work if your board supports pcie bifurcation
TUF x570 wifi
aight thx thx
I just like to seperate my files from work, games,os etc
I mean, there is always setting multiple partitions on a single drive if that's all you want
@untold grove @torpid adder fixed. PS I asked for help to fix my issue with perfectly compatible hardware, not shopping advise.
hi. i have 4 drives. one boot and three for games. im building a new pc. can i just swap all of it to my pc and have it work? do i need to reinstall windows again? what about the hard drives filled with just games? ty 🙂
@hearty trellis it SHOULD work. some would say to get a new windows install but windows should be able to figure out how to work the new hardware. you will need to install new drivers and it may look odd before you do that
im goin from i5 8400 to i7 10700k, u think so?
I have had PSUs that actually cannot support a lot of HDDS but u should be fine
I am very sure. I do refurb and use one SSD to run windows on many different types of computers
Thank you 🙂
is 980pro worth it ?
no
Sabrent rocket 4 plus cheaper and faster to start off
and little to none benefit from PCIe 4.0
Sabrent rocket 4 plus cheaper and faster to start off
@minor sun can u send me a link of that ssd please
thank you
Check the seagate 520 firecuda. Same price better rating
It's 200 for the 1tb, I just realized but check it out anyways
Anyone know any good Budget SATA III SSD's?
define budget
Around a hundred or so bucks I can go a little over if need be
size?
is there a big noticeable difference between the Crucial P1 and MP34?
@gentle lodge Rocket 4 plus' speeds kinda destory the firecuda 520
5500/4400 on the firecuda, 7000/6850MB/s on the Rocket 4 plus
Crucial MX500 1tb, or Samsung 870 Evo/Qvo 1tb?
if at the same price, 870 evo
Hello, what is the best way to clone a NVMe m.2?
its like any other drive
just plug in the target and cloning and then tranfer it over. I like to use EaseUS mobimover
@true apex
or clonezilla or aomei or partedmagic or acronis or whatever
most ssds will come with a clone tool as well
for example, wd and samsung and sabrent all come with them if i recall
wd and seagate also have their own versions of acronis you can use
in general
as long as you have a wd or seagate drive in your system
Hello
hi
storage woman has spoken
only retail package drives will come with a bundled piece of software
a LOT of drives are oem models
aka
just the drive, nothing else
@gentle lodge Rocket 4 plus' speeds kinda destory the firecuda 520
5500/4400 on the firecuda, 7000/6850MB/s on the Rocket 4 plus
@minor sun I was Thinking and i don’t really need a 7000mb speed ssd so what’s should i buy that’s less than 200
I've actually had wonderful experiences with wd
that odd
from what I understand they are a pretty reputable brand, what happened?
both my passport drives I have had experience a "fatal error" after like a year
and the internal drives dont use sata so they are not easy to fix
That's really weird, I've had a passport on my xbox for the past 6 years without issue
is the samsung 970 evo fast?
yes
yes
very
awesome thank you !
hdds do have a tendency to fail if they get bumped. Were they sitting in one spot?
what ssd should i pick, i can spend 150$ and 1tb
games and fast boot
ok, I have always been satisfied with sata ssds and don't really see the need for nvme but apparently a lot of people do. In fact my pc has a 1tb sata ssd for games and boot. If you really want speed, go nvme. If you just need quick (I experience 15-20 second boot up times with sata) sata should do fine
plus sata saves a few bucks
Probably should have started by asking are you looking for an m.2 drive?
yes
nvme
one sec
That order is cheapest to most expensive from what I'd recommend, that also happens to be slowest to fastest
the evo 970 is one of the go to products when it comes to ssds @ 130$ and it is pretty fast
the sabrent is just a tad slower but you do shave off 20$
thx
Personally I wouldn't go for the intel but if you're strapped for cash and want nvme, that's the option
I also wouldn't do the wd because 5$ more gets you a bunch more speed
i just got a question
if a ssd is 3000mb and another ssd is 6000mb does it means it will boot twice as fast?
the mp34
🙂
no
a 6000mb won't boot much faster than a 3000mb
6000 is a bit overkill if you ask me
for a gaming pc
yeah
an external ssd is your best bet, external 2.5in drives are trash no matter who makes them. If I had to get an external it would be an external 3.5 inch drive from WD, like an Easystore.
Yep bought one in bestbuy
box
Was going to buy something else but, it's not my call to change what she wanted so yeah
literally the only thing seagate does better than WD is 2.5 inch drives, and theyre still garbage
be sure not to use external drives as backups
they are much more delicate in general, and are rated for less power on time
storage woman has spoken
:)))
a lot of seagates 3.5in externals are smr
for the most part WD uses cmr for the 2tb, smr for 3tb-6tb and cmr for the rest
at least the easystore
Why am I having such a hard time finding 2.5" 5mm 2tb ssd? Are they not a thing or something?
My friend has an 16 gig sd card (SanDisk)
Some how the 14 gig of "movies" is like not deleating.
We tried everything form formatting in my lap in his phone and ni my phone the 14 gig won't be freed
Anyone knows anything on how to format the drive would be a big help.
I don't know how it end up like that. He said he applied a setting that makes it's current content perementaly read only .
Can we actually do that ?
i need a reader for an old laptop hard drive card
is this something you can help with
SK hynix SC308 256GB M.2 2280 SATA Solid State Drive Model HFS256G39TND
@crisp lichen any m.2 capable board/adapter should work
is the https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qfPgXL/transcend-110s-128-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-ts128gmte110s ok to use for a boot drive
is the vnand 860 evo fast?
yes
the nvme trashy posted is literally the cheapest possible one on pc part picker
@daring quail have used that in a TR build i did and worked great
ok thanks
what’s the best ssd nvme 1tb for 130
Not sure if best or not but this is solid and at your price point atm

lmao i cant send multiple pcpp links at once i guess
these are also good options
The storage lord has spoken
What’s a good, fast hard drive with like a terabyte of storage that’s not too expensive?
I’m asking about hard drive because I already have a SSD
Hard drives aren’t really faster or slower
At least, if you’re getting one with the the standard speed it’s not
Also, not sure how a cache on a hard drive would affect speeds but probably not by much
Anyways, “fast” and “hard drive” don’t generally go together, a hard drive is just a mass storage drive if anything
my 5400rpm laptop hdd destroys samsung 980pro with 30min of boot time 😎😎😎
So that’s what I meant
lol
Pretty sure the highest rpm is 7200
Or at least, the highest that’s commercially available and actually fees able to buy
*feasible
7200 is the standard anyways
Shouldn’t be buying 5400
Not even cheaper at this point
they are the same just choose a good brand
Not even sure what the difference is with like, one of the fancy wd black HDDs compared to a blue
SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 or Western Digital WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280
which one's cheaper
same price
were you looking into the 1tb version or 500gb version?
1tb
look into other cheaper options like the mp34, rocket q, mp400 and the sx8200 pro
ty again
Anyone having issues with their delivery for the wd blue 2 tb ssd Black Friday sale? It’s been sitting with ups mail innovations 3 hrs from my house for like a week and a half now...
I think they’re just having too many things to ship, the monitor I ordered on Black Friday is finally out for delivery today through ups
is 970 pro pcie worth it? or is the 970 evo plus fine
Neither of them are worth it @chilly trench
really
Yeah. They're way overpriced
what is the recommendation for gaming pc
ok i will check it out
Basically the same performance at about half the cost
okay
Anyone hear know how much ram an HMB drive will use under normal use?
the sx8200 pro?
Yep
sorry storage woman, plz forgive
They replaced the
Controller
Firmware
And flash

Honestly nowadays i just pay either samsung or sanrent
Sabrent
They have never switched stuff around like this
And likely never will
Knowing i didnt get scammed is worth an extra $20 to me
The mp34 is great too, but coming from the other teamgroup ssds ive used, im a bit worried about longevity
Yes
So @untold grove why is changing components for an ssd a bad thing if it all still meets the spec... video almost felt sponsored by Samsung :/
Because it doesnt meet the spec?
Did you even watch the video lol
500mbps slower on average
Big transfers kill it now
If you want the best ssd
You buy from someone who makes the nand and the dram
Rn there are 3
If you want a good ssd
Imo you dont buy adata at all
Kingston lol
Lmao
Ah neat
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Y6YLrH/team-mp34-1-tb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-tm8fp4001t0c101
@runic crater which would be a better option , this or a 970 evo
970 evo
Samsung is the best around always tbh
The other drives are ok if u wanna save some money though
yeah, samsung is pretty great. even the 20 year old hard drive useing sata 1 from them is probably best in class for the time
cant go wrong with samsung tbh
mp34 uses nand that team found on the factory floor lol
its a good ssd but id spend $20 more to ensure its getting all high quality parts in there
Sn750 vs a 970 evo then?
I wanna see what storage person says tho
lmao my opinion is as valid as everyone elses lol
well. i wouldn't trust anything from a single person, multiple inputs is good
go look up u/newmaxx
sammy is overpriced. wd is slightly better. hp, sabrent are great, avoid adata
It's low end
@hazy bridge tbh SX8200 pro is still decently good, but what ADATA did with swapping controllers was scummy
just bought this, its pretty neat looking
it'll make a great boot drive for a server
id honestly never look at adata again, the drive is trash tier now for the price
swapped controllers and firmware and nand
not just controller
always depends on the price you can get the drives for. samsung is the best out there and id say if theyre $10 more or something id go for it. $20-40 more is more of a stretch. so it depends what price you can get them for id say
if you're upgrading they both come with cloning software iirc so that isnt a concern either
Yea, the 970 was $30 more than the sn750
it depends then
i dont agree that theres a samsung "tax" tbh, youre paying for the integration
great firmware, dram, nand, and controller all made by the same people
and in my experience its them or sabrent or corsair that I can trust for great drives every time
sadly sabrent has gotten more expensive so ive stopped considering them
yeah
in AK its not
Sabrent
youre paying for the knowledge that every part of the drive is specifically designed to work with each other
from the ground up
and that youre getting the best binned nand from the best nand flash company in the world
sabrent is good for sure
how much cheaper are they?
imo theres like 4 drive options at this point
dirt cheap, mp34. more cheap, sabrent rocket. more good, sn750. Most good, 970 evo
all are good drives though
crucial makes some good stuff too
wd... isnt as competitive as they used to be
i wont stop others from recommending them
wd isnt as great as they used to be in the ssd space but still make good drives and im mostly confident they wont pull a adata/kingston on us
the only reason I like adata SSDs is the RGB
but if I want a value for less I am a team fan
prolly ESXi 6.0
base install plus my iodrive2 drivers will fit fine on 16gb
niiiiice
The Mp34 nvme ssd is gen 4, right?
no
970evo not the pro vs wd 750
i already ordered the 970 evo not the pro one
should i refund
I would get a mp34. You pay for the brand with Samsung
You pay for the quality tbh
Depends
If u want cheap get the mp34
If ur ok with spending a bit more for a higher quality drive overall
I'd do that
oi
is this a good ssd
Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD
and how will i plug it in
while i build my pc
you would just need to connect it to the psu for power and to the mobo using the sata cables provided
smh
Nothing wrong with the quality of the mp34
And it costs much less
why does my hdd sound like its gonna blow up
command prompt tests claims my drives are in good condition, but my hdd makes a ruckus all the time
I have a Corsair mp600 2tb m.2 but I am thinking whether should I get another m.2 1tb for bootdrive. Is it wise to use a pcie gen3 m.2 for bootdrive? My Corsair mp600 is a pcie gen4 m.2.
thats because HDDs spin when they are in use
so im all good?
Mine makes a somewhat banging noise but it’s more or less brand new and healthy according to CDI
Hard drives are just noise makers
It’s normal
When i put my new m.2 in it say its corrupted and not readable or something
anyone here
@half quest then return it ig
@half quest install driver booster, get full version, keys are all over youtube, let that scan for software and update ur drivers, restart ur computer and see what happens
is the Western Digital WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 better the 970evo not that pro ?
never got a true answer
@steady dawn The solid answer is read through this.
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-black-sn750-ssd,5957-2.html
ty
Depends, some drives make noise, some dont. Id check SMART using a tool like HD Sentinel
Thanks! Will do
Is it a clicking noise?
I have the most average and used hdd lmao, I have a seagate barracuda 2 tb hdd
Ew
Kinda, it’s only during loads and very rarely while in sitting doing nothing, and it’s like grinding sounding noise
Id test it
Mhm
Ok thanks man!
CDM on my barracuda 2tb
mp33 is a good budget ssd right
mp34 is
crucial P1 is an ok budget ssd
but only when its on sale
SN750 might be on sale
if you had to do as budget ssd as possible (with dram) what would you choose (250-256gb)
and there's a samsung drive on sale rn
256gb is a bad buy
512gb is much more worth it
im trying to configure it for a 350-400 dollar machine
ohh, thats suuuuper budget
your best bet would be to get a laptop, look around FB market, mercari, and ebay for used parts, or get a dell optiplex and slap a 1650 in it
it has to be new and doesnt need a video card
thye dont want it to be obsolete or something idk
Im doing 3 price points and im guessing they wont pick this one but idk im still doing it
they? so this system isnt for you?
if someone needs help, just tell them to come here, helping through someone else is annoying and difficult
^^^
anyone know why sata ssd are the same price as nvme ssd?
@heady raven Is it safe to Defrag a SSD or M.2 if the system is lagging for some unknown reason??? Just wondering as Microsoft Defrag and Optimization says the Drives are all ok but I just spent about 6 hours Defragging a 1tb SSHD that was at about 41% fragmented that Windows said was fine and was thinking maybe the lag is caused by a Fragmented M.2 drive
@minor sun ^^^^^
Trim only
Side note, looks like my SSD actually runs fairly hot, any ideas for like a heatsink I can slap on the controller maybe?
@untold grove just for the controller? dunno about compatibility, unless it's just a solid copper block, also, I was thinking smth like these lil things
https://www.amazon.com/Easycargo-Heatsink-conductive-Regulators-8-8mmx8-8mmx5mm/dp/B079FQ22LK/
Look it up babe
Its a nice copper heatsink
And why just the controller?
Whole surface coolers are fine
Not gonna be getting much done with a tiny surface area
I don't want to spend 30$ on a heatsink when I just need a small one :P
@minor sun I would recommend just slapping a Noctua 40mm
Featuring advanced aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels and Noctua’s AAO frame, the NF-A4x20 is a highly optimised, premium-quality quiet fan in size 40x20mm. The PWM version sports Noctua’s custom-designed NE-FD1 IC for fully automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers and comes with a Low-Noise Adaptor as well as an...
I have seen people do this before
Yes a4 is small but I don't think it's gonna fit there well
hmm... that is tight
Owo
uWu
Side note
anyway, you could pull a dell
100% all fan speeds time maybe
you could get crafty and make a wind tunnel
with a tiny noctua and some folded paper
The little ones barely do anything tbh
The little heatsinks
ooh
you know
I own several of the small noctuas and trust me im a believer
I do have a spare wraith spire
Server ran whisper quiet
good idea
got no tools tho
I am just enough of a scrub to actually use those
now running every controllable fan in my PC to 100% >:D
you MADMAN
ssd temps not improving sadly
Less than 75?
hm?
Temp
67c
Ur ok
P sure it was throttling
rated closer to 3000mb/s write, forgot exacts
~2000mb/s write on a usual cdm run, bit more than half way filled
1000mb/s and now down to 400mb/s making it write things via cmd
ok, just had a thought
If you move the SSD down to the lower key
Maybe you could get more airflow as cases put air there
I just know my sabrent cooler keeps it sub 40s
Rich...
blood cooling
I did it on a celeron once
Those old cases with side panel fans need to come back for this exact reason
Lol
@minor sun I actually needed to Defrag my M.2 sadly which is my Boot Drive. 43% fragmented. I forgot to Defrag the C drive from when I originally went from a Spinning HDD to a Regular SSD before I transfered the OS from the SSD to the M.2
That would Explain alot of my system Lag that has been happening
Probably Would Explain the Slow System Boot Up time as well
@untold grove If you read I didnt Defrag the Original HDD before transfering it to a SSD
So Its been fragmented for at least 1 1/2 years
i actually Did Read the thing you Sent
ok
wow its fun to capitalize random words i see why you do it now
Partly thanks to having to write college papers
Its a bad habit that is hard to break
ssd has limited write count
and when you defrag you basically write the drive over again
I know but its my own fault for not defragging the original HDD
Before transfering the OS to a SSD
trim is something that ssds use for garbage collection and also to do their own little defrag
drive do be cool now
At least it wont take 6-8 hours to defrag the M.2 thankfully
gonna cdm and see if that fixed things
I tried chkdsk and that didnt do anything
it wont take any time at all to defrag the M.2
because you dont defrag them
When I used the Windows Optimize drives it fixed the system lag issue for like 2 hours and it was back again
ever
hm, write speeds be weird even with good cooling now
So i have a wd blue sn550 its dramless should i replace it
I just bought it
Its my first ever pc are dramless ssd like suuuper bad or slightly less advantageous
Is it worth going through the trouble of sending it back to newegg to get a new one 😭
From what I understand dramless sssds are very slow (or at least inconsistant) compared to dram drives
Could be wrong tho
How do actually tell if you have a dramless ssd
But like for a first time builder is it gonna be really bad
I come from a 2013 laptop so i mean everything is an upgrade
nah it wont suck too bad
id return if it were me
@opal bobcat look up datasheet of ur drive
Datasheet didn't say
drive?
yeah ik but its still lightning fast compared to a hdd
does what i need it to
Yeah
fair
@untold grove at this point i am just curious- what is your avatar?
Ok I wouldnt go that far
my sona lol
I still have no idea but ok
4 real tho is nvme really all that important if you just want to boot the pc up in under a minute and launch games in under a minute
which my pc surpasses by far
same price so yeah
When I bought it nvme was more
lol
again tho, it does the job
m.2 sata
well yeah anymore I won't cuz nvme is so much cheaper
when i got mine nvme was like 150 cheapest and I got my sata for like 110
This is also my first pc so
m.2 nvme 500gb or 1tb for bootdrive/os? I'm not sure which size to get..
I like a 500 gb m.2 and then a large 7200 rm HDD
500gb nvme and 4tb hdd is the sweet spot
ooh
4tb wd blue is cute
Should I buy my Samsung Evo 970 m.2 drive at pcie gen 3, or get gen 4 for 50$ more
I have an x570 board so I support two pcie gen 4 slots
Samsung Evo 970 somthing
do you want the extra speed ?
that's the question
i personally think Gen 3 is fine to be honest
yea
Oh ok, yea tbh I don’t mind about speed, it’s just gonna have games on it mostly, and just be as extra storage cause I already have a 2.5 inch ssd for windows
I didn’t know speed was the only difference, thanks!
@molten kettle move the os over lol
But don’t I have to like reset my whole pc to do that LOL
I know I only have games so I really don’t care, but like that’s sm downloading time
Oh awesome, I didn’t know that was possible. I’ll look up how to that when the time comes
True
Ooof now I was looking at a 2 Tb drive cause I really want to yeet my hdd in the trash. But it’s pny not Samsung
Cause it’s the same thing for 50$ cheaper
Ewwwwwwwwww pny
budget ?
No LMAO is that bad
Samsung, sabrent, wd (sn750 only) and corsair
Also teamgroup but exclusively the mp34
Oh wait I saw a sabrent one I think
And tbh teamgroup loses the WORST binned nand out there
Uses*
Sabrent is fantastic
Good?
I’ll see gimme a sec
It won’t send
Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (SB-ROCKET-2TB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MTQTNVR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Mt31FbMJ8SRRJ this one?
It’s like 30$ more which I can do if it’s beneficial enough
Sweet. What’s the extra benefits of tlc?
And I’m assuming sabrent doesn’t give the same thing u said Samsung does to help move windows over.
Oh awesome!
Dont quote me on that, might only come with some drives
Ok, all good if it doesn’t
Can always use clonezilla or smth
Ok sweet. Also my 2.5 inch ssd is split into two partitions. What I mean is when I go to my pc section in files it says it’s split in two. Two different 250 gig sections for the total 500. I had to do this to make it appear when I first got the drive. Is there anyway to put them back together to make it “one” 500 gig drive again
Or am I stuck with the split I made
Hi, My grandmother has photos / videos archived. She wants to send her 30 grandkids, a copy on usb drive as she doesn't believe in cloud services. These flash drives have been great to me in the past.... Do you recommend another flash drive for this use case to order in bulk? Looks like I am limited to order 10 ever 48 hours. https://www.newegg.com/corsair-model-cmfvy3a-16gb/p/N82E16820233642
that usb is very ugly but it will do the job
Yes ugly lol I have had one for a while, it has lasted the onslaught on my daily tech bag : )
There's also always the external HDD option, like this @tidal beacon
https://www.newegg.com/seagate-model-stea5000402-5tb/p/N82E16822184820
cheaper than buying 10 of those thumb drives, and a whole heck of a lot more storage
Thank you all for your help
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MFZY2F2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 $150 a good price or should I hold out? I'm not really in a rush waiting to get a 3080 so might be a few months...
Oh sorry misread the question
whats better 500gb nvme and 1tb hdd or only 1tb nvme
1 tb hdd is terrible value imo
500gb nvme + 2tb hdd is a nice combo
it's up to you at that point if you want to get that or get a 1tb nvme
it’s almost the same price
that's why i said it's up to you
Do you want fast storage in a big quantity? or do you want more storage but some is quickly accessible and the rest is big storage?
i think i’ll go with 500+2tb i just want the pc to boot fast and open some games
sure that works
is 970evo good for 500gb?
yeah it seems to be 60 bucks on newegg
you're gonna fill that 500gb real fast with os + games
I'd recommend a 1tb ssd and then get other storage later
unless you're planning to store a lot of photos/videos, stay away from hard drives
you're gonna fill that 500gb real fast with os + games
@brisk dome i just want 2 main games and Windows on the ssd
do you only play 2 games?
those are great, i also rly like samsung's bar line of usbs
prolly only 2 games where they wanna be competitive
I guess
I would still go all ssd, maybe nvme as a main drive and sata for other games
eh
cant beat rust for pure storage
lotta ppl with slow internet will get a bigger hdd and throw like
their whole steam lib on it
and depending what theyre gonna play
will move from their hdd to their ssd when theyre ready to sink lots of time into it
should i go for the adata xpg sx8200 pro 1tb or the gammix 1tb s11 pro?
avoid adata like the plague
scummy manufacturer
and why not get something from team or samsung?
Yeah, or sabrent
@high summit oops forgot the ping
sabrent is good but they got expensive
theyre like as much as samsung rn below 2tb
i see
The only reason I like adata is because they make the only RGB m.2
adata is scum
True
trash company, never buy from them
you are aware you just described ALL companies right?
yep
but at least samsung doesnt get their best drive and then change the nand and controller and firmware to objectively worse ones
xpg makes an rgb m.2 as well
now you are just being silly
no idea how good it is
Its not
just saying that adata arent the only ones
that is just how the storage biz works
I said that earlier
oh wait
(not saying it is okay, but that is how it works)
xpg is adata
true but
samsung hasnt done it yet
neither has sabrent
team prolly has just cause they seem to scrape bottom of barrel to get good prices
all the manufacturers have done "weird" things
but my point is, theres other people to go to that have been proven not to lie to and attempt to scam customers
its just a question of: does X weird thing affect you?
yeah but i feel like this is the worst example of it
there is a EVO fault from years ago that would like a chat with you :)
at least in the somewhat big brands of the ssd world
lmao trueeeee
the classic 840 issue
looks at 840 1tb
also anecdotal but almost every adata ssd ive ever gotten has failed within 2 years
its been in the hundreds lol
i just have less than zero trust for them
for the same price you can get a rocket or a evo
think i might go with the 970 evo plus
thats a good choice
ye thanks for letting me know tho
are Crucial/Micron NVMEs good in your experiences?
hello strangers
Hello other stranger
I feel like i am missing something here
@minor sun whats the best pcie4 m2 right now? they have samsung & wd black in stock locally here
Sabrent rocket 4 plus > SN850 > 980 pro iirc
Thanks, they have the SN850 2tb on sale right now for $50 off and the 1tb 980 pro for the same off
ok next question if I do the sn850 is there a heatsink and non heatsink version like the pcie3 version? If so I assume I need to put it in the slot with the cooler lol
@rustic mountain @minor sun I am 96% sure SN850 ranks top rn
@open gazelle I went by ssd mastersheet rated speeds, too lazy to check specifics, so yea.
Well I guess they have a bunch of the 1tb ones in stock as well may as well get one tomorrow to see how they are https://www.microcenter.com/product/629542/wd-black-sn850-1tb-ssd-3d-nand-m2-2280-pcie-nvme-40-x4-internal-solid-state
not true
not true
yes
by normal metrics, what Mr1111 said is true.
and those metrics are?
most likely based on the sheet that is in the pins for this channel
I always hear spikes from my hdd, I know they make sounds, but mine was a worse sounding sound. Can I assume that since HD sentinal said my drive is at 100% health that it is truly ok?
The sus sounds have been happening for like 5 months now
while I’m idle or in game. It happens whenever
@Secks#9768 my metrics are by the rates read write speeds as listed in the mastersheet,
Sabrent rocket 4 plus: 7000/6850 r/w
Sn850: 7000/5400 r/w
980 pro: 7000/5000 r/w
SN850 is currently the best one rn
unless the rocket blew benchmarks i never saw
which is likely
I'm too lazy to check, I go by rated speeds which are the easiest to check
fair
rated speeds dont mean jack for games tho cuz half of that stuff is sequential and not deep queue or whatever its called
huh
theres me not reading benchmarks
Oh and it slaughters everything in atto
hmm
not planning on getting a gen 4 ssd until directstorage is more than a fab, but R4+ looks like a good start
Anyways, the point is for crazy seq speeds for a PCIe 4.0 drive imo
that is p crazy negl
yeah, im waiting for direct storage to exist before i even consider it. Ill just take my EX920 boot drive, and some SN550s for games and be happy
Fair
im hoping I get an ex950 2tb for xmas tho
I simp for HP storage
go ahead and laugh
I only know 2 people irl with hp SSDs, both had it fail on them in the first ~6 months lel
huh
i heard their sata stuff is bottom barrel but u/newmaxx uses an ex920 as boot and I learned that after doing research so...heh
I think both with ex920s
oh lmao
Ex900
Tru
920 and 950 are really good
avoid the 900
thats why they failed. 900s are bottom barrel
I think the other one was a 920
920s and 950s are p damn good
One of em had a 900 the other 920
oof
Oh well it just leaves me a very bad impression of hp drives
that being said, if you want a good gen 3 ssd, sn550 for budget, then sn750, rocket, ex920/ex950 for slightly higher end (with dram ofc), then 970 if you like to waste money
corsair?
Team
oh
Corsair Mp510 is good though
Still can't figure out why I have low write speeds on my mp510 but eh
I'll figure it out one day
gonna bench my ex920
I wouldn't be surprised if it was some random setting
prolly
ik some drives run better if you flash the firmware with a different drive;'s one
But I've spent too much time in the bios and found no settings
i think i did that with my 920
My write speeds are just weird
#storage-devices message
Thought it was thermal throttling for a bit
But even while cool
Never tested my Sabrent before, I'm impressed.
can anybody help me find a 20TB (or at least 10TB) SSD?
yo the read and write speeds are gonna be a lil slow
im looking for normal SSD, not nvme
biggest you'll get for non-server hardware is 8 TB at the moment
i have a 300hz g sync monitor i think ima be good and a 8GB graphics card
i need for gaming
yes
hes downloading cod
and i already have a 27db cooler
Biggest commercially available is 8 TB at the moment
and hes the 10 tb
and they are $1000
what is cod
call of duty
ok
ARK is currently 275 GB so....yeah
but srsly
But srsly, no, they aren't that big yet
i need a NORMAL (not nvme) SSD with at least 1TB
Those are everywhere
then i can use half my budget on USB's
what about 5TB?
no, 2 TB, then 4 TB
yea
ok
just get a 2tb ssd
so 8TB NORMAL SSD is the highest
then upgrade
no i am gonna download about 12 apps in the 1st minute
$1000 or so
that still expensive
less tho
Even 2 TB is still $250 or so
i can work with this
thanks 😄
@vast patrol Basically that just means it can't find the path of your WOT file
Go remake the shortcut or open it wherever its stored
and it should be good again
@vast patrol It could've been disconnected or unmounted. Is it a desktop or laptop?
oh oof the sata cable got loose

question. is it possible to transfer data from a 500gb ssd to a 500gb nvme?
you could clone the drive
even with windows on it?
yes
how's that work, as someone new to pc building?
the process is like this:
you take a usb stick, and make it into a cloning tool
you then boot from that usb stick. So that you are "outside" of windows.
at that point, the contents of the drives is just data
and you can clone (copy everything) from one drive to the other
does that answer it for you?
macrium reflect (the free version) is one tool that can be used for it
i'm using a 500 gb kingston ssd for holding windows and drivers and other programs like gpu-z and cpu-z on it, and a 2 tb hardrive for everything else like my steam library..
i noticed that my B450 board has one M.2 slot on it.
and i hear that NVMe's are faster and better.
its a bit more complicated than that, but close enough :)
you can find bad (slow) m.2 drives and you can find good ones
Samsung 970?
so, if you selected a bad drive, you would not be upgrading much at all
depending on location, a bit overpriced, but a solid enough drive
i'm deciding on either that or a Crucial P1.
mp34/sn750 are what we normally recommend
ah.
the P1 uses something called QLC nand
where the others use TLC
TLC = better and faster
ahh okay.
noted.
my mobo doesn't have a heat sync on it for the M.2, so is it possible to buy a separate heat sync?
Yes
p1 does not need it
or the 970
neither does the others as such
ah okay.
or use macrium lol
did that today actually
read further down @hazy bridge
my b
nothing to worry about :)
im lazy lmao
i know :)
pray that you dont ever meet me then :P
if the mood takes me, that is a "light" taste of it
hello for all I have a question for u I bought CORSAIR RAM at 3600. In practice it gives me 2133. Every time I run XMP in the BIOS and go back to Windows I get a blue screen. What to do?
Hey guys
So I have a problem
I recently bought a 240gb ssd
And A 1tb hard drive and for some reason my 1tb hard drive only has 507 mb I don’t know why but I need help fixing it so I can get my pc up and working
@signal hawk can you go to partition manager?
it is not partitioned correctly
Got it on sale for 229.
dang
real nice
Thought it was a good deal
Well it was 229 before 7% local tax
Same price on Newegg just didn’t have to wait lol
Instant gratification at microcenter is amazing bu sure puts a hurt on the wallet lol.
yea
