Foodservice

split nimbus
#

Working cashier in food service is communication

rigid valve
#

Rip

queen sigil
#

become customer service

sly warren
rigid valve
#

Huh

sly warren
#

The industry wants people with Social Media stuff, not customer service.

rigid valve
#

Then work customer service until you find a spot for social media

split nimbus
#

Then find some small place that needs a media manager and volunteer to do it pro bono while you keep working at your garage

sly warren
rigid valve
#

Not much you can do with a comms major imma be real man

#

Social media and PR and uh

#

What else

#

Customer service

#

And uh

queen sigil
#

go major in something cool

sly warren
rigid valve
queen sigil
#

exactally

rigid valve
#

Internet exists as we all know

#

And it is spectacular

sly warren
split nimbus
#

Yeah, it's a pity you missed the internship train

rigid valve
#

That’s called fixed mindset

queen sigil
sly warren
#

God bless... Screw internships. I had to do one for my degree, and I basically couldn't find one.

rigid valve
#

You need what we call a growth mindset

sly warren
split nimbus
#

mb

#

Man that field sucks rn

sly warren
#

I was lucky that my professor let me do my internship with my church doing video recording.

rigid valve
split nimbus
#

I have some friends in comms, lots of entry level jobs they're competing with teenagers that just breath social media

sly warren
rigid valve
#

That is called fixed mindset

#

And it is a false concept

queen sigil
#

ill just work at intel ez

sly warren
rigid valve
sly warren
#

Well, I can't program my way out of a brown paper bag.

#

Tried that too.

split nimbus
#

Have you considered acoustical engineering?

rigid valve
#

Even medicine

#

Is not a very math-intensive field

#

You need algebra 1,2 geometry 1,2 and maybe some trig

split nimbus
rigid valve
#

Ochem is fun tho

sly warren
rigid valve
#

kekw

sly warren
#

O-Chem sucks.

rigid valve
#

Well that rules out medicine ig

#

You could consider acoustics

#

Physics but not a bunch of math

split nimbus
#

Yeah

rigid valve
#

Like bob said

sly warren
#

Uhh... Physics hurts my brain, I barely passed General Physics 1 which I needed as a science elective.

daring zenith
#

physics lotta math

rigid valve
#

Eh

split nimbus
#

Depending what exactly you do with acoustics you don't necessarily even need physics

rigid valve
#

Hmmmm

#

Interesting

daring zenith
#

also, stats prob most useful math

split nimbus
#

For everyday life definitely

#

There are a decent number of acoustics trade schools around

rigid valve
#

Oh how funny

#

Literally

#

“Texas Acoustics”

sly warren
#

Music making isn't really my Forte.

rigid valve
#

First thing that comes up

rigid valve
#

Prod doesn’t need acoustics experience

sly warren
#

Cant play an instrument to save my life.

rigid valve
#

And Vice versa

split nimbus
#

You don't need to

#

Just run the sound board, check the mics

daring zenith
#

audio engineer

split nimbus
#

Yup

rigid valve
#

Would also give you credibility when you make recommendations

#

Even if it doesn’t even remotely apply

daring zenith
#

lol

split nimbus
#

Looks like they make a decent paycheck too

rigid valve
#

“I am an audio engineer making an audio recommendation. You should listen to me”

#

Imagine that

split nimbus
#

I'm seeing reports of median salery between 50 and 60k

#

Average hourly wage of about $25

rigid valve
#

Fr

split nimbus
#

top 20% of positions make more than $50 an hour, sheesh

rigid valve
#

Sheeeeeesh

#

Isn’t that 6 digits

split nimbus
#

Assuming full time, yeah

#

So there ya go @sly warren, you can make six figures working with audio equipment

sly warren
#

Yeah, if I also had experience with DAWs and my own equipment.

split nimbus
#

That experience can be gained

#

That's what trade schools are for

sly warren
#

That I have negative money for.

split nimbus
#

Trade schools tend to be pretty cheap

#

Also shorter programs than colleges

sly warren
#

I still have to pay off school debt, and other misc debt, and also need to pay for... well living.

split nimbus
#

And a decent number of them you pay most of the money by working an internship

sly warren
#

Rent at my place is 800/month, and I barely can pay that.

split nimbus
#

Can find cheaper apartments

sly warren
#

I actually cant.

rigid valve
#

So this goes back to the whole

sly warren
#

And it isn't even an apartment.

#

It's the back house of one of the people in my small group at church.

rigid valve
#

Get a full-time job in foodservice and make more money so you have money for tuition or something else

#

And then go from there

sly warren
#

And it's the cheapest thing in the area.

sly warren
split nimbus
#

And then your boss calls your bluff

sly warren
#

If that doesn't work. I'm basically sunk and would have to live with my parents if nothing else works.

rigid valve
#

TIL Texas doesn’t have a state minimum wage

#

Lame

split nimbus
#

Food service is hiring, always hiring

rigid valve
#

Eternally opening positions

sly warren
#

And I would be fired in a matter of hours for being crap at it.

rigid valve
#

Ehh

split nimbus
#

It really doesn't take much skill

rigid valve
#

Especially if you aren’t doing fancy food service

split nimbus
#

They can train you in anything you need to know in a few hours

sly warren
#

And I'd be more miserable there than I am now.

split nimbus
#

but you'd have money

#

And from that flexibility

sly warren
#

Life is pain and money should be illegal. My life would be less pain if money wasn't a thing.

split nimbus
#

Also, I found several apartments under $500 down the street from a audio engineering school in Austin

sly warren
#

I ain't moving to Austin.

rigid valve
#

Duality of man

sly warren
#

Or, I should say California in Texas

split nimbus
#

And just down the street from that is a cheesecake factory that's hiring

sly warren
#

I'd sooner live on the side of the road than live in Austin.

split nimbus
#

Aight

rigid valve
sly warren
#

And it isn't helping.

rigid valve
#

You’ve got a whole setup with a gig and everything

rigid valve
split nimbus
#

I found another audio engineering trade school in fort worth

rigid valve
#

Part time jobs don’t last forever

split nimbus
#

1 bed apartment for 269

rigid valve
#

Sheesh

sly warren
#

It's making me even more mad. Because I don't want to go back to school to do more work. I went to College for a reason. And it was to not have to go back to school.

rigid valve
#

Well you picked a crappy major what can I say life happens man

split nimbus
#

And a cheesecake factory hiring

sly warren
#

And apparently I just happened to draw the RNG of Life card that says "F You in everything you do"

split nimbus
#

That's called a comms degree

rigid valve
#

^^

#

But we all make mistakes

#

And sometimes we have to go back and fix them

#

And that’s ok

sly warren
#

My mother has a Comms Degree, and then a Masters in Library Science. She has been working in the library field for over 15 years and only just recently got a Masters.

#

But the local library to my area said "Up yours buddy, we found a better candidate"

rigid valve
#

I don’t quite see what you’re trying to prove with this statement

split nimbus
#

You are in a field rn with more candidates than openings, that happens

sly warren
#

And I'm a couple of job denials away from crying in the corner in the fetal position until I just rot.

#

Because I'm tired of being denied at every opening.

rigid valve
#

Then

#

Go work in foodservice

split nimbus
#

ooh, package handler for fedex

rigid valve
#

And climb the ladder

split nimbus
#

18.75 an hour

rigid valve
#

Oh damn

#

Manual labor

#

Very epic

#

Pays well and if you’re in any shape at all it ain’t hard

split nimbus

split nimbus

Also an amazon position, but ya know

#

Not there

sly warren
#

I'm actually not in great shape. I'm just lucky that car batteries are fairly standard shapes and weights.

daring zenith
#

amazon working conditions can be wacky

rigid valve
#

Amazon position downvote downvote downvote

sly warren
#

I think I'd have a nicer time gouging my eyes out than working at Amazon.

split nimbus
#

I take it back, amazon is not the worst option

sly warren

Im Greater Houston Area.

What the heck is a pet counselor?

rigid valve
sly warren
#

I don't know, and I don't think I want to know.

rigid valve
#

And then get bitten

#

And then spray water at them

split nimbus
#

As a pet counselor you are responsible to match the right pet with the right family.

rigid valve
#

And they calm down

split nimbus
#

Oh, okay

sly warren
#

Oh.

split nimbus

That actually might be pretty chill

Not sure I'd want to work with kids that much, but still cool

#

Okay, who decided to put the magazine there

rigid valve
#

That’s sort of how paintball guns work

#

Too heavy and squishy to use a traditional spring magazine

#

So it’s a funnel instead

steep pelican
#

you dont actually aim paintball guns you kinda just spray

daring zenith
#

yea

sly warren
#

Yeah, with how soft paintballs are, you can't use a traditional magazine.

daring zenith
#

some do have sights though

split nimbus
#

Ah, okay

#

That's unfortunate

daring zenith
#

you have the magazines somewhat offset, but still on top sometimes

#

well, most times

rigid valve
#

Sounds like Normie speak

split nimbus
#

I can imagine they would tumble bad

steep pelican
sly warren

Yeah

rigid valve

If your marker and barrel are good enough you can generally actually aim

I take it the squishyness also makes it hard to rifle them?

KSC75X probably best for gaming in terms of positional audio

wanton burrow
#

anyways idk when would i have time to do it since my subs are already rolling out performance tasks

proper forge
#

So I currently have a keyboard with generic blue switches. They’re very loud, but soo much better than the two membrane keyboards a used to have. I am an aggressive keyboard typer, I always press until they bottom out. I found a keyboard with black switches. Do you think it will work well for typing papers as well as games and regular internet browsing?

sly warren
#

Another alternative to buying a keyboard with soldered switches is to buy a board like a Keychron with Hotswappable switches so you can buy different switches to try out on the board.

#

And you can use that opportunity to Lube the switches to improve the feel

wanton burrow
daring zenith
#

But I'd personally go grab like keychron with gat browns and later move on to other tactile switches

timber ridge
#

typing on black switches is perfectly fine

#

a lot better than typing on reds imo bc you dont get as many accidental key presses

proper forge
#

Ah thanks

#

the reason is I found a quite cheap generic keyboard at a yard sale. It’s been taken good care of, no scratches, no dust, has all the key caps. It’s hot swappable too. Currently has blacks in it, and I think rgb lights cause there’s a little clear thing about each switch. I haven’t tested it, but it’s literally a dollar, I don’t care xD

#

On a keyboard with swappable switches, could I put two different kinds on for different keys?

daring zenith
#

Yes

proper forge
#

Ooh cool

#

Another random question. When do linear (black) switches actuate? Is it halfway down like blues, or do you press them all the way down each time?

wanton burrow
daring zenith
#

All switches have different actuation points but usually somewhere near the middle

wanton burrow
#

no no switch rly needs to bottom out

#

but tbh just do it

#

not like it's an alpha move to not do so

daring zenith
#

Some switches trigger really early

#

But yea

wanton burrow
#

or just get switches that's good at bottoming out nicely bbnohappy

daring zenith
#

@proper forge for specific numbers, gonna use reds for example, cherry reds actuate with 37gf actuation force, 1.5mm travel to actuation, cherry blacks actuate with 55gf actuation force, 2.1mm travel to actuation

#

A bit rough numbers but still numbers

wanton burrow
#

55gf actuation lol

Which switch is more worth it? KTT Kang Whites, or Gateron Milky Yellows?

rigid valve
#

Nowadays I would recommend Gateron Pro Yellows or JWICKs instead.
Pro Yellows are yellows with new tooling and surprisingly good prelube, you can find them on Amazon and some regional vendors as well as Ali iirc.
Jwicks are basically cheap JWK-manufactured switches but chronically out of stock since everyone loves them. Also good prelube.
Strictly comparing the two, I would get the KTTs. Less stem wobble and from what I’ve heard slightly smoother.

sly warren

How much do Pro Yellows go for?

why Razer mouses are soo overated ? i mean dont get me wrong they DO make good stuff.... but certainly not better than logis, hyperx in my case.... they advertise their lazer speed switches although even those laser pointer switches have to converted into electrical signal so doesn't it defeats the purpose ??? isnt it just a marketing scheme ??

#

am asking this because recently my friends razer mouse died again (2times!) and my $hitty mouse is still working for 3-4 years.

rigid valve
# south cloak why Razer mouses are soo overated ? i mean dont get me wrong they DO make good s...

Razer mice are not overrated. They have some of the best sensors I’ve ever used. Their optical switches are somewhat of a gimmick however the way you phrased it implicitly shows me that you have both a complete lack of understanding of how switches work and how mice work. Some Logitech mice and some HyperX mice are arguably better than Razer mice, however the fact that your friend’s mouse died indicates to me that he does not care for his products properly. Razer optical switches are both a marketing gimmick and a legitimate feature.
