daring zenith
#

Well, would try get Zen dac and a k371

rigid valve
#

$120? Where?

daring zenith
#

That's what vintage is running atm

clear lichen
rigid valve
#

Fun fact: in Malaysia audiophile discord they shill zen dac
That’s the only rec

daring zenith
#

Lol

#

Zen dac is nice for the price tho

#

130$

rigid valve
#

Yes

#

The next step up would be like
Pile o Schiit
But that’s a solid 190-200

daring zenith
#

Mhm

#

or Meizu dongle if you're talking to skiptrace

rigid valve
#

lmao

clear lichen
#

So I could get the k371s for $120 and a Zen DAC for $130 and just scrape by huh

#

I want a dac anyway so that’s honestly fine

daring zenith
#

that should be good

rigid valve
#

So uh @clear lichen did u ever find that link

#

Cuz I can’t

daring zenith
#

dunno, maybe they're looking at used/renewed?

#

but k371 is usually 120$

#

right now it's just out of stock from akg afaik, just random 3rd party sellers

rigid valve
#

Yeah they 150 on amazon right now

#

There’s a renewed one for 112 though
Might cop

gloomy berry
#

If you like a neutral sound, absolutely

#

If you want bass, I'd say find something else, just being honest

daring zenith
#

yea I believe that's what they want

gloomy berry
#

Clarity and soundstage is awesome but they're light on the bass

rigid valve
#

I have a basshead pair already so yeah looking for neutral sound

gloomy berry
#

Then you'll love them

daring zenith
#

yes

rigid valve
#

The other pair I have literally has a frequency graph that looks like this
__
…..\

#

Big bass and no highs

gloomy berry
#

I'm perfectly happy with my K371's and Zen Dac combo

#

It's even great in games

rigid valve
#

Could I also get like an E10K or Schiit Loki in the feature and do the EQ thing

clear lichen
rigid valve
#

Unfortunate, but thanks for looking!

clear lichen
#

np

#

Meze 99

#

AKG k371

rigid valve
#

That’s a botched test

#

I know what you’re looking at

#

The first Amazon review, right?

clear lichen
#

yeah

rigid valve
#

I will send more accurate tests after I finish lunch

clear lichen
#

among all other tests this seems like the most common

rigid valve
#

That looks much more accurate

#

It follows the Harmon target 95%

#

(not a statistic backed by evidence, just inference)

clear lichen
#

honestly I'm just gonna probably get these (even though they're $50 more than before) and the Zen Dac

#

when I have like free money in the distant future I'll invest in the Meze 99s

#

because these seem like a safe bet and the only way I'll get away with good sound for cheaper

#

I noticed you guys were talking about how the Zen DAC as just a thing that everyone recommends immediately

#

I realize that that is probably the most mediocre and reasonbly priced one I could get right away

rigid valve
#

Zen DAC is great

clear lichen
#

but since I'm kinda on a tight budget (I can't really spend more than $240) is there a cheaper option?

gloomy berry
daring zenith
#

gonna grab charts from crinacle

clear lichen
#

like just $30 dollars cheaper or something

gloomy berry
#

Let me get you the one I'm using

daring zenith
rigid valve
daring zenith
#

meze 99

clear lichen
#

and I honestly do want more base

#

hmm

#

now I'm rethinking

#

also, real quicj

#

does the Zen DAC allow for mic input?

rigid valve
#

if you want more bass also consider DT770s for a cheaper option

daring zenith
#

look at the bottom bit against whatever curve it is

gloomy berry
rigid valve
gloomy berry
#

It does not

daring zenith
#

what curve does crinacle compare against

rigid valve
#

if you need a mic in get a Schiit Fulla

#

$110

clear lichen
#

oh nice

#

yeah that sounds great

clear lichen
rigid valve
#

Schiit?

#

naw is real

#

their marketing is quality

clear lichen
#

Ik schiit is real

#

but the Schiit Fulla

rigid valve
#

lmao

clear lichen
#

my little dumbo brain can't help but flip them

rigid valve
#

@daring zenith dont you have the Schiit Fulla labeled as funny joke in device manager

clear lichen
#

lmao

daring zenith
#

against IEF Neutral, k371 against meze 99

daring zenith
rigid valve
#

...

#

LMFAO

daring zenith
#

that's what it says in the manual

rigid valve
#

bruh

gloomy berry
#

I want one just for that XD

rigid valve
#

lol

clear lichen
#

lol

#

alright so

#

I'm gonna have a great time convincing my dad to actually think this is real

clear lichen
#

I would just get the Neos and the Schiit Fulla if I had $310

#

but I don't

#

so I'll go with the K371 and the Schiit fulla for $260

rigid valve
#

quality choice

#

that's likely gonna be my first setup as well

clear lichen
#

which honestly is the cheaper than anything I can seem to get an audiophile community on reddit to recommend

clear lichen
#

that's cool dude

gloomy berry
#

Audio people do be.........different

#

It's honestly a great way to get your feet wet without breaking the bank

daring zenith
#

the good way to get your feet wet without breaking the bank is ur40/porta pro with meizu tbh xD

clear lichen
#

It's like if I was trying to play a game and people that have played it before are telling me to play it on the hardest difficulty

#

they just do not give good advice

clear lichen
daring zenith
#

always depends on who you talk to tho

rigid valve
#

They're always either people with $20 for a full setup or people with $1000 just on the stack

#

at least in my experience

daring zenith
#

lol

clear lichen
#

Literally no subreddit I've gone to has given me a good recommendation

#

on really anything at all

daring zenith
#

lmao

gloomy berry
#

Well, it's Reddit

rigid valve
#

r/headphones did rec me Starfields for iems

#

that was a quality rec

gloomy berry
#

I got a pair of Jabra Elite 75t's on Prime day. I gotta say, they sound pretty dang good

#

ANC is great as well

clear lichen
#

If I ever want better earbuds then what I got rn then I'll probably go with some starfields

rigid valve
#

interesting question

gloomy berry
#

Audio driver matters not

clear lichen
#

cool

gloomy berry
#

UNLESS

clear lichen
#

AAAAAA

daring zenith
#

onboard audio

gloomy berry
#

You have a sound only DAC like my iFi Zen

#

Then you need audio driver for mic

#

😉

#

If you have a Fulla with mic and audio it doesn't matter

daring zenith
#

heh

clear lichen
#

oh ok cool

daring zenith
#

never need drivers

#

clear lichen
daring zenith
#

pc37x and fulla

clear lichen
#

just a little guy

#

Ok why does the look of the Schiit Fulla make me laugh so hard

#

he just looks like a little dude

#

He's small and he's angry and he's gonna cost you $110

gloomy berry
#

-_-

#

what it looks like

clear lichen
#

accurate

gloomy berry
#

With a top hat

daring zenith
#

it is an angry lil guy

clear lichen
#

he's disappointed in me for not having such raw style as he has

gloomy berry
#

So a Sophisticated -_-

daring zenith
#

I got fulla 3 but they updated it to a fulla 4 now

clear lichen
daring zenith
#

slightly worse afaik, not too sure on specifics

clear lichen
#

is the difference really noticeable?

#

wait do you have both of them or am I just confused

daring zenith
#

I just have fulla

#

vintage has zen

clear lichen
#

oh ok

#

well I feel I already know this one but it's better than System audio right?

daring zenith
#

ofc

clear lichen
#

if so I don't really care about it being better or worse than any other DAC

#

alright cool

#

and you only need an AMP if you have chunky headphones that pull more ohm right?

daring zenith
#

fulla is a dac+amp

#

so is zen

#

anything with a knob has an amp basically

clear lichen
#

oh ok

#

So it's decidedc

#

I am now about to punch myself in the bank

clear lichen
daring zenith
#

better amp gives you more ommph

rigid valve
#

^

#

but you are correct

#

in that you only need an amp to drive chonkers

clear lichen
#

oh ok the k371 only needs a little so idc

rigid valve
#

for example, i could drive K371s on my phone

#

would it sound great? prob not

#

but it would work

clear lichen
#

yeah that's one of the main reasons I wanted to get these

#

more portable and less draining

#

alright thank you guys

violet dune

daring zenith

#

didn't know if ghosty was on though

sturdy sinew

vintage like

#

west hornet
#

Technically i am still not on but i have used the sm58 before. I enjoyed it good tone. Decent vocal mic with a lot of flexibility. It is a dynamic and ive had to do a bit of volume leveling in some recordings because the subject kept moving closer and farther from the mic lol

clear lichen
#

So I was looking into getting the Schiit Fulla and I realized that the thing is gonna ship in like 3-4 months

#

And if I’m paying $110 for something I’m not waiting that long

#

Is there any other DAC/AMP with mic for around that price?

#

I’m on the verge of just buying a Modi and a seperate mic that can just plug in with USB

#

But the problem is

#

Looking at the modi

#

I literally don’t see a 3.5mm jack

#

Like where is it

gloomy berry
#

Most DAC's are 6.5 mm

#

and come with an adapter

#

I use a ModMic. Sticks to your headphones and sounds pretty decent too

clear lichen
#

Oh ok

gloomy berry
west hornet
#

3-4 months?

#

Are you outside of us

clear lichen
#

Hey @daring zenith could you help me out real quick?

#

I don’t really have the money for a DAC rn, so I was just wondering if you could test your headphones with your fulla and with your system sound

#

I just want to know how much of a difference it makes

rigid valve
#

That’s actually a good request
The Fulla obviously will help but if you’re on a tight budget you could always like… not get it until later.

clear lichen
#

I looked into DACs and it honestly doesn’t really seem like I need it that much because my onboard sound is honestly pretty good besides some constant hissing which could be fixed with an apple adapter

#

So unless Mr1111 comes back with results that say there is a crazy difference, I’m good just getting the apple adapter.

#

For now at least

rigid valve
#

Get meizu instead

#

Meizu dongle is like $30

#

Best sub-100 DAC imo

west hornet
#

Hmm i live on opposite of country from schiit it take 1 week ship idk

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

rigid valve
#

Oh yeah Schiit is located in Cali and Texas

#

Literally I’m sandwiched between them

#

Very poggers

gloomy berry
#

They might have fallen victim to the supply issue finally

#

Semiconductors.

rigid valve
#

Noooooooooooooooooo

sturdy sinew
#

so um for the sm58 does anyone know if you can drive it without a inline preamp with the m-audio-m track solo? or should I just grab a focusrite 2i2?

west hornet
#

I cant say for the m track and i don’t recall having used a sm58 with my uphoria but i used it with my motu m2 and it worked just fine. Btw this was at ~50-60% gain and was for singing

#

Subject was close to mic most of the time, varied 2-6in away

sturdy sinew
#

alright

#

so

#

if i wanted to future proof an amp wouldn't I go with the motu m2?

#

so like if I wanted to upgrade to a better mic down the road I can use that amp

exotic cosmos
#

Should I get a separate keyboard for my laptop? 🤔

rigid valve

Do you want one?

exotic cosmos
#

yes, but I need reasons to convince my dad

thick tartan

unless you travel alot

#

exotic cosmos
#

sadge ok thx

west hornet
#

motu m2 and 2i2 both good

daring zenith
# clear lichen Hey <@278694081440251905> could you help me out real quick?

yea, trying it rn, my onboard is decently high end (alc1200), but it's just.... lacking in everything. Most noticeable one is just that it's so god damn quiet, at full volume, it feels like if I was doing like 25% volume with the volume knob on the fulla, and after that, it feels like the details are kinda gone, and bass is kinda gone, testing it with some flacs I have laying around. And well, you can definitely do apple dongle or meizu dongle for now for the dac, and separate usb mic, and/or just grab a zen dac and separate usb mic if you have enough budget.

As a side note, I also have meizu dongle, compared to fulla, in my opinion, there is quite a bit less bass, bit less detail, but soundstage is still good.

#

I'll also paste some of the flacs you can experiment with later

tight pulsar
#

goliath is nice

daring zenith
#

ya

#

I need to find some tools to figure out if some are just mp3 turned flac

tight pulsar
#

can't you just look at the details of the file

daring zenith
#

iirc need specific software, and the one ghosty(?) used was paid

#

this thing was what I was thinking off

#

nvm found a tool

#

looks like first one is true flac

#

gon check last one

#

this also looks to be lossless

#

side not, unplugged from onboard audio and plugged into fulla and damn is it nice to have the volume up

#

and the bass, and details

#

and soundstage

clear lichen
#

I'll probably just end up going with the Meizu dongle then

#

Affordable time scale, affordable, and decent everything

#

So in the end I think I might just end up going with the Meze 99 Neos and the Meizu Dongle

#

Thanks guys I honestly was super confused before

daring zenith
#

not completely sure how hard the meze 99 is to drive, but meizu should theoretically be okay with it, but if it's too quiet, you know where the problem lies.

west hornet
#

clear lichen
#

26 ohm for these

#

And the Meizu dongle is good all the way up to 600 so I’m good

AKG K371s $140 - Fairly neutral sound signature, not very fun for emotional listening or bass-heavy music. Very clean sound though
AKG K361 $105 - Brighter sound than K371, which means less bass and more highs

Asking for advice for Headphones/IEMs:
1: Location? Some things may be accessible in other parts of the world more than others, like the US.
2: What is your budget? List what you are comfortable with spending.
3: Do you have any source gear such as amplifiers or DACs?
4: What environments are you using these in? Is it noisy?
5: What other audio equipment have you had, or, more specifically, enjoyed?
6: What genres and types of music do you listen to?

Trying to decide between the hyperx alloy origins core and xtrfy k4 tkl. I don't care about software too much and I don't mind abs key caps either. The price is about the same so that doesn't matter, I want linear switches and fairly good stabs as well. Which one is the better keyboard?

rigid valve
rigid valve
# arctic lichen Trying to decide between the hyperx alloy origins core and xtrfy k4 tkl. I don't...

No prebuilt is going to have particularly great stabs. As someone who owns an Alloy Origins (full-size version) I can say they’re pretty not good
I would instead grab a Keychron K8 ($90 on Amazon) for its wireless compatibility and hotswap capability. If you want better stabs you’re going to have to install them yourself, and that is soooo much easier with hotswap. https://www.amazon.com/Keychron-Bluetooth-Mechanical-Tenkeyless-Hot-swappable/dp/B0875W65Z2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2K6VBLRN2DT6N&dchild=1&keywords=keychron%2Bk8%2Bhot%2Bswappable&qid=1624802660&sprefix=Keychron%2BK8%2Bh%2Caps%2C218&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzTEZBMkZTRlpOQ0FPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzU0ODk5MlpVOVI1U1RTMjQxVCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTg1NTkxM0lIWlJaQ0s4M0lHUyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1
