the hotswap sockets were designed around the desire for hotswap functionality and were constrained by the existing switch design. the switches themselves were not designed to be hotswappable. the pins are designed for through-hole soldering.

I view hotswap functionality as more of a novelty and gimmick. the overwhelming majority of people are not changing out switches frequently. it's kind of nice to have to test out different switches, but once you know what you like, there's no point

Basically, there's 2 alternating signals that get sent down 2 cables (This is why headphones with 2 cables can have balanced output) and they are out of phase with eachother.

The "noise" that the signals individually have get cancelled out right when they hit the input due to them going back in phase.

Balanced has 2 signals , one original and one inverted. Playing at same time it will in the end play the original signal but only that, so any other noise picked up that is not the same will not come out. Like cross referencing
