makes sense
I know people mod keyboards.
Are there mice that can be modded like a keyboard?
Sort of
You can change the switches in a lot of mice with a bit of soldering
That's about the extent of it though
you can also change the grips and skates
or many mice made by RAWM
RAWR
a company called Orbital actually made a modular mouse
its cool
and also sold out so good luck
or take a dremel to it for weight reduction 😈
Orbital Rawr strikes inbound
with ur OWOpad
or the Rizzpad
The benefit of mouse modding is that even if I burn my circuit on like a Logitech mouse, replacement parts are like 2-15 bucks
nuh uh
I want the opposite.
Oh nice.
So do modular mice use specialized parts or is it like a keyboard where you have a wide range of choices to pick from?
Interesting it looks as though you can buy all hardware needed to build a mouse from scratch
Specialized parts
mice are so small of a product that no company cares about making sharable parts
Again, Orbital is one comapny with only one mouse. Razer Naga is similar. you might want the naga if you want heavier
I have a Razer Basilisk V3 are these hotswap?
I just realized my scroll wheel can be moved sideways
ah rip.
you can theoretically solder but theres realy no point. Dont reocmmend it
Part of why I am curious is that I'd like a bigger mouse and figured it'd be cool if hotswap existed to build my own
the Basilisk V3 feels small in my hands
I don't think so.
I have tried some red dragon and logitech mice before. all of them felt to small
idk what you want, but if you want a specific shape larger, check this out at least
https://www.eloshapes.com/
My hands are about 5.5 inches wide and 8.75 inches long
@oak jungle honestly I also like weighted mice
I started PC gaming around the time when companies added weights to their mice to make them heavier
And I still have been using a weighted mouse to this day (like 120g or something like that) and I quite like it lol
Honestly idk how it would feel to switch to the m6 since that is around half the weight of my current mouse lol
I'm not like super hardcore about it, I do still value comfort, but I just don't see any appeal to heavy mice other than the somewhat outdated mindset of "heavy feels premium"
rather than it feeling premium, it's what i'm used to
my first mouse was a roller ball mouse which also was kinda heavy due to the ball
(if you didnt know, those mice had basically a steel ball coated with rubber)
roller ball mice are so jank lmao
i mean from my understanding theyre stupidly accurate but
still
i mean them now
back then yeah they were close to unusable lol
they still arent ever gonna be good for gaming or anything
but they have productivity benefits
i think you're thinking of a different type of mouse?
i mean the mice with the ball on the bottom rather than the optical sensor we have today
you act like theres any other way to interpret it lmao
well, there's 2 types of ball mice, the type that we still have today, which is a ball on top, and the mouse doesnt move
and the old type that isnt being made anymore (probably) that has the ball on the bottom
trackballs?
yeah
do people still use rollerballs???
also honestly idk if there's even a proper name for either one since googling "Rollerball mouse" just gives me what i consider trackballs?

idk
but i know what youre talking about, my grandma used to have one too if it says anything
and "trackball mouse" gives what i consider as trackballs as well lol
trackball mouse replace the scroll wheel no?
oh wow i never actually knew that lmao
yee
i wonder why ong
but these things? these got gunked up so often and you would only be able to move the cursor in one direction
but no, balls that are in replacement of the optic sensor
so you had to pop the ball out and clean up the wheels
yeah no i hate them too
i just know people who find them superior
those people are crazy ong
i cant say i disagree with you lmao
i like classic sensor
actually trackpads could use more innovation imo
i wonder if a teflon trackpad would be better than glass
because if your finger is very slightly moist, even on glass it kinda sticks
idk if teflon works on fingers though lol
glass trackpads are great for perfectly dry hands though
so much better than the older/cheaper plastic ones
teflon release pretty rough chemicals when scratched tho
i sure hope you arent eating on your trackpad
im very hot handed
also mouse glides are usually teflon/ptfe (ptfe is just the generic name)
ew
I though they were supposed to be designed as plates?
plates?
Yeah like to eat on
Thats why people get glass pads right?
looked it up, looks like my understanding of teflon based on what my parents told me is outdated
i got confused for a sec lmfao
teflon used to contain PFOA
the thing about teflon being bad was 1. from like a decade ago now, and 2. it was specific to pans lol
im a sponge for bad information what can i say
the heat from cooking would release and leach pfoas, as well as scratches, i dont think a mousepad would get hot enough?
Idk california might still slap a warning on teflon products
cooking with teflon still does have some health concerns outside of toxic substances released
looked into it and heat is still an issue
microplastics from scratching the pan is still possible
my parents use teflon pans
and yeah teflon pans can only go up to like 400f safely
i might need to bring it up to them rip
We started using cast iron pans again
it's not an immediate health concern anymore, but stainless steel pans >>>
god we have like 6 cast iron pans
i have to rip them out of the oven when they store em in there
my step dad was a chef of 30 years
there actually has been some recent concerns about cast iron and carbon steel pans, due to the raw iron/steel may contain some heavy metals that have been leaching into food (from some lab testing)
would make sense, i have a lot of experience with learning about steel types ever since i worked at Knifeworks lmao
i still cook with them, and the amount leached was still relatively low (just a bit over the legal limit iirc)
and i mainly use stainless steel which has also been tested to not leach, at least nowhere near the same amount
what happens if i cook leeches on a stainless steel pan
At some point or another im pretty sure there have been potential health concerns with every pan imaginable, just cook it on your hand
but what if my hand leeches into my food
Death ☠️
Why Were the Matfer Bourgeat Skillets Recalled in France?
Certain lots (batches) of Matfer Bourgeat’s Black Steel skillets were tested in France, where they are manufactured, by a regional regulatory agency, the Direction Départementale de la Protection des Populations (DDPP) of Isère. The agency found that when a mild acidic solution was heated in pans from these batches, arsenic, chromium, and iron leached out in excess of standards recommended by the European Union. Because all three of these metals are considered harmful to humans at the levels found, the skillets were recalled in France. Matfer has appealed this decision, and it maintains that its skillets comply with the safety and testing standards established by the French General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) and the EU.
https://www.americastestkitchen.com/articles/8342-all-about-the-matfer-bourgeat-recall
they only recalled in france though, since they were the only one to require them to recall
the US doesnt have any laws in regards of legal limits of heavy metal leaching
Makes sense
which was a fact that i learned from this recall lol
the law only sets maximum amount in produced food, and not the cookware
so you can technically make a pan out of lead and sell it as a pan
neurotoxins add flavour
It really does
just like Ma used to make em 🥹
lead makes pasta taste better
i make pasta taste better
after they got rid of the leaded pipes my pasta has never been the same
i prefer my tomato salads on lead plates
I want to get a stainless steel pan
Is the fast heat dissipation quirk they complain about really that big of a deal or is that something that varies from pan to pan
i need a lot of cooking stuff for when i move out, my stepdad has a mortar and pestle he got handmade from jamaica and its my favourite thing ever
stainless steel doesnt have a high thermal conductivity, which is why pans have interlayers made of something like alu or copper to spread the heat better
its a matter of material
either layering or the alloy base it consists of
Nah like how the pan will cool down a lot when you put food on it
Is it really that bad or nah

as long as it's 3 layers, any stainless steel pan will be fine
if you have a weak wrist, pans with just the layers on the bottom of the pan is fine
because a full clad pan does get somewhat heavy
god i kept trying to click the pencil to edit my message and yall kept sending messages
was chasing that lil mf
lmfao

if i were truly archaic id be sending these via papyrus and camel
if you were truly archaic you wouldnt know how to speak or write
if i were truly archaic id uh
id be uh
uh
probably not alive tbh
id be soup
primordial soup
amoeba
I just realized, why are we talking about pans in #peripherals-and-displays chat
real
"Relating to or situated on the edge or periphery of something." a pan does come second to the food ong
dont yall have a stove and pans next to your gaming setup
and my mouse is currently under the fridge
i dunno if i envy those with mini fridges or feel empathy
you cant spell mini with america
bound in chains
🦅 🦅
you cant spell money with america
real
i can spell erm I c
real
For me I have an much easier time doing small adjustments with heavier mice.
keyboard almost here
still havent thought of whats going in it
maybe just some naevies i got sitting around

I just got a used surface pen and it died on me after few days...
I tried new batteries, but they drop to .7v (they slowly go back to 1.5) and the pen heats up :[
probably a short circuit, that's quite unfortunate
F
chat, i need help with getting keycaps to match the hatsune miku pad
Least gooner anime girl mousepad:
For keycap ideas tho
See if you can get like a leek keycap/set or something
You should send me that pad
aliexpress
really should be super giga easy to find
bro theres bound to be some Miku keycaps
Combination of blues and white keycaps
very specific but was gonna try and look for white/blue keycaps with some pink like pink letters or something, if not then ill just buy 2 keycap sets and mix
blue alert!!
spensive but lowkey, maybe would work
https://www.deskhero.ca/products/gmk-cyl-nimbus-keycaps
or probably just these
https://kineticlabs.com/keycaps/tbcats/blue-bunny-pbt
just not use the bunny keycaps

So if i want good quality sound out of a pc, what’s the right move again?
i know pci sound cards were a thing at a point
Usb but honestly the built in sound cards these days are pretty good i wouldn't worry about it
So the 3.5mm jacks would be great too tbh
If you really wanted you could get a DAC but realistically there's no noticeable difference you'd want to spend an unreasonable amount of money on headphones/speakers to notice tbh
The audio moneypit
Also if your pc audio seems terrible, it's probably either your headphones or the contacts are dirty
The built in audio is great until is breaks or some connections go bad, interference, etc. This is often the case with front panel jacks
that makes sense
I have sennheiser hd6xxs but i’ve noticed the audio quality is not as good sometimes
I have it running through an apple usbc to 3.5 though so that might be why
With a 6xx you can see some difference moving to a dedicated dac & amp
Apple dongle is also an improvement over onboard audio chip too
though sometimes the built in amp can power a bit more than the apple dac
apple dac is great for iems at least
The built in is often not as clean though
true
i would consider it "good enough" category
you will be able to listen to music well enough, and probably be able to hear 85-90%? (more of a qualitative number since i cant quantify it) of the details with a pair of good headphones and a built in dac/amp on your pc
in comparison, a good dac + dollar store headphones will likely not sound any better
When it comes to buying GPUs why does it always say OC when overclocking is bad for the gpu? Do companies such as msi, gigabyte, and others overclock safely or what
Different companies like to set clock speed and such out of the box, i guess to try to make it look like their card has the edge
OC is only bad for the gpu if you give it too much voltage
And those factory overclocks ain't touching the voltage
Wym
They just bump the core clocks
By a pretty small amount, something you can easily do yourself
any such thing as comfortable gaming earbuds?
No such thing as gaming earbuds
I mean, IEMs?
Umm there are comfortable iems out there but it very much depends on the person
basically any non-bad earbuds
surround sound
No such thing as surround sound with any kind of headphones
Only virtual surround sound at most
But that's just a gimmick
It would help if we had a budget to go off of
kinda want something with around the ear
u know where it holds it on ur ear better
custom molded eartips can do that
Real surround sound requires multiple speakers
what affect does rgb have on ram or in general? is it better to buy a ram stick without rgb?
It can make the sticks hotter and harder to cool, but that's less of a problem with DDR5 since it isn't particularly hot to begin with. It's purely a personal choice.
what is the best brand for ram
Anything that's not Corsair
whatevers cheapest and meets standards
basically any 6000 CL30
look for a 6000 CL30 under $90
how about corsair
not corsair
not corsair
whats wrong with them
and corsair isnt even the cheapest
More people have ram dying problems
and its just overpriced and overhyped.
they dont even make the ram themselves, ur just buying more expensive ram
crucial, sp, g.skill
those are good
find me a good one on amazon 64 gb ram ddr5
only amazon?
in person?
Patriot Viper DDR5-6400 CL32 $144.99
High failure rates, poor cooling, locked PMIC
hay i need a good mechanical keyboard that's wired and has a numpad, back light and rgb would be nice but i don't really care that much, could care less about noise as well
key stability is nice but mainly responsiveness and durability at low cost
$100 is my absolute max and it better have a ip68 rating or something
also the ability to press more than 3 keys at once and have it read them all is a top priority
Current one
its exposed to alot of dust since its near my workbench
you wont be able to get ip68 on anything but a membrane keyboard lmao
mechanical switches are not dust nor water resistant
think this was like $15 and its lasted like 4 years or something but its did some wierd stuff last time i spilled water on it so i want a backup for when it goes
I recommend a keyboard cover or a membrane keyboard as mentioned
That high of IP rating isn't possible on mechanical
It's not a matter of cost, it's a matter of how they work
if im going to spend alot on one id want it not to die from a knocked over drink
yah thats kinda a need
the problem is, all the high cost keyboards are not going to be spill resistant
only the cheap ones will be
not submersion proof just spill
that's fine and preferable
any mechanical ones with like silicone underneaths to keep water from draining into switches?
idk any specific recommendations, but any membrane keyboard with a barrel or whatever it was called (to keep the keys stable) should be spill resistant
that's not the issue, the way that mechanical keyboards are built, the switches are directly under the keycaps, which can get splashed onto, and you wouldnt really be able to put a protective sheet over
If you want IP68 you would be looking at something like this which uses chiclet style keys https://sealshield.com/product/ssksv101pro/
also yeah you currently have a membrane keyboard
so any good ones of those that are wired?
and are known to be able to use multiple keys at once
ive used ones that cant before and it was horible
most modern membranes should have anywhere from 3-6 key rollover
like only 3 keys then it stopped taking new inputs
That's called "n-key rollover"
3 keys at the same time yeah, idk if there are any commercial membranes with n-key (every key on the keyboard at once) rollover
curent one can do at least 4
It's not specific to a certain kind of keyboard, it's up to the firmware of the keyboard to implement it because it's part of the USB standard already
hmm
thought it was a physical design issue with how the matrix is on membranes and some mechanicals were configured
No it's a limit of the USB standard only being able to handle 8 bits per packet, 2 bits per key
somebody told me before, but i never fact checked it so idk lmfao
But they fixed that ages ago by basically encoding the output differently
Kaihl box switches??
those are mechanical
ip56 rated
that doesnt seem like an official listing i feel like?
That's only for the internal metal contacts of the key, not for the external connector to the keyboard
main problem is still going to be getting water on the pcb, not the switches
oof
huh
well any idea of good pcb's?
Here's a funny thing for you, that website makes absolutely no claims of IP rating so the Amazon listing just made it up lol https://www.kailh.net/products/kailh-box-thick-clicky-switch-set
also wired is a must
interesting, the switches are made to be dust and water resistant
that's pretty interesting lmao
though msrp is $36 for 110 box jades
not too sure of any commercially available mechanical keyboard that actually makes the pcb waterproof
You'd have to custom cut and fit waterproofing yourself
really just need a case that wont let water get into it in first place
just spills not submersion
can't you purchase waterproofing spray or sum
seems like they did say ip54, no idea where the az listing found 56 though lmao
honestly ip56 rated keyboard switches would be kinda crazy 💀 https://www.kailh.net/blogs/news/kailh-box-switches-buying-guide#:~:text=Dust-proof and water-proof
I'm standing by this recommendation still, it's wired and meets all your requirements except mechanical keys (which are almost impossible)
fr
if you know for a fact you're gonna spill crap on your keyboard
might as well get something easily cleaned
especially if you spill a soda or something
well yah but i need it not to die so i get a chance to clean it lol
which the keyboard falcie sent should survive since it's ipx8 rated
medical rated one might be cool but who knows how expensive that is or what the role over is
yah, i book marked it, but its not a full sized one
i like hitting enter with my mouse hand once and a while
all your requirements + splash resistant for only $100 is a bit of a hard sell
They have other models of sealshield ones
high role over, dust and splash resistant, wired, and has numpad
oh lol it does
this one is cool
dishwasher safe XD
dishwasher safe is definitely one of those selling points i'd never expect to actually see listed on a keyboard
wish it had key lights but whatever
ltt did do a video of dishwashing keyboards before, though you had to make sure they dried fully before you could use them again
Most keyboards don't mention it because it's literally part of the USB spec now
The firmware dev has to go out of their way to disable it if anything
ok
Key rollover is the ability of a computer keyboard to correctly handle several simultaneous keystrokes. A keyboard with n-key rollover (NKRO) can correctly detect input from each key on the keyboard at the same time, regardless of how many other keys are also being pressed. Keyboards that lack full rollover will register an incorrect keystroke w...
The corsair is only IP32, not dust resistant at all
its a bit more then i wanted but its got lights and garenteed 10 key rollover
either that or the seal sheild
considering they did this themselves it should be plenty for a cup or bottle
I'm generally anti-razer mostly because they have awful software that hogs resources and they overcharge for everything, but it's ultimately your choice
and im worried the other one is using outdated stuff
Outdated? It's a button
the blackwidow ultimate is an old keyboard, also i have to agree with the software (also a razer keyboard user, only still using it since i use my stuff till it dies)
i cant find key rollover for it and one of them said usb 2.0
really don't want to get stuck with only 3 key rollover is my worry
you are 99% not going to saturate a 2.0 connection lmao
i need wired
I know you said that I'm just saying that's what I have
how much nicer is mechanical then membrane tho?
It depends on what you need it for
membranes have the flaw of needing to be bottomed out to register
most people type by bottoming out the keys though
If you're gaming and you need instant key register that's where mech shines
i'd say less noticable on chiplet keys
unless you want the like really sensitive hall effect switches, which would be way more sensitive
i do like to game, that and cad is all i realy do with my pc
Hall effect are amazing for gamers, you can configure the travel distance to your liking, and sometimes you can per key depending on software
should specify for competitive games specifically
i've been tempted by the hand shaped keyboards before just cause keybinds
less noticable on more casual games
minecraft and helldivers
modded minecraft so i run out of easy to reach keys very fast
minecraft wouldnt matter unless you're playing those really sweaty minigames, idk about helldivers since i havent played
specifically in terms of if membrane would make a noticable difference
i reliably 5 star hell dive so i dont think it would matter much
oh yeah right, you already use a membrane
Helldivers isn't going to care what keyboard you use
its more the ability to set multi key keybinds that im concerned about
so yeah overall in terms of keyswitch types specifically, you can continue with membrane to keep the water resistance
you can do that with any keyboard
almost
Macro software
not if seal shield doesn't have newer role over standards
also you can have 2 keyboards, one dedicated to just macros or whatever
guess i could just get a programable stand alone
idk, ill keep those 2 bookmarked
i might need 2 keyboards anyway but idk if id get 2 nice ones just for that
i use my pc as a tv so i have one keyboard and mouse at my couch and one at my desk
4 screens
and sometimes i use multi seat for freinds to play modded minecraft with me
could free up some keys by geting a mouse with keys too
Got the world's most plane mouse rn lol
not only plain, it's also kinda terrible (low polling rate)
though also built like a tank, and usually the only thing that breaks on those are the wire lmao
yah got it for my laptop but my cheap $15 "gaming mouse" broke
any solid wired mice recommendations? maybe with one or 2 extra buttons but still lightish
does it... also need to be splash resistant lmao
not really
most mice also arent splash resistant lol
also an issue with the switches and pcb
plus it tends to be the mouse hand knocking drinks towards the keyboard or whatever
so its splashing away from the mouse
I eat most my meals at my pc
lmao
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091BMFL15 should be plenty for your use, and cheap enough to not care if it gets killed by a spill
The ROCCAT Kone Pro Lightweight Optical Performance Gaming Mouse with RGB Lighting is the result of over 14 years of devoted craftmanship and is the most advanced gaming mouse we’ve ever created. At just 66g the Kone Pro is lightweight and advanced, without compromising on the superior comfort of...
ugly lighting though lmao
What iem should I go for? Getting tired of using AirPods and them not lasting as long as I’d like
mouse recommendations? wireless budget about 60 euro
What budget?
does each motherboard vary with the amount of ram sticks slots or do they all have 4 slots
most have 4 slots but some have more or less depending on the chipset and size
almost all motherboards that you will encounter are only dual channel however
is 64gb ram overkill? is it better to buy 4x16 or 2x32
2x32 of you must, but for gaming 2x24 is more than enough
Honestly even 32gb (2x16) should be enough for most people
Technically yes but every modern consumer platform is dual channel
You can't get more
Unless you go to a workstation or server platform
4 sticks will always run slower than 2
What used to be faster was dual rank on DDR4
On DDR5 ranks make no difference and dual rank can actually be slower
I don’t really know, $100 max? Never bought any, just was recommended to get iem instead of headphones
ngl usually 2x32 is cheaper and on sale more cause 2x24 is rare
Except iirc 2x24 is the largest capacity you can get on ddr5 to reliably get higher clocks
Well then I guess spending a lil more $/gb is worth it if that’s a concern
shoutout donald trump for delaying my keyboard
Make Keyboards Great Again
What company?
my mom thought i was getting scammed when i ordered a tkl keyboard. she said it was way too small and that there needs to be a keypad. you poor, sweet, innocent soul
wait till she sees a 60% keyboard
ok
fr
no it's true, you're being scammed out of your numpad
ong fr
It's 6 key rollover
Real
Its for the extra greasy grimers so they dont need to lick their fingers when eating cheetos
Unironically I eat crisps with chopsticks
I should tbh
i love buying keyboards
I keep hearing about Kickstarters announcing keyboards. Imagine waiting 2 years preordering a keyboard that theoretically might be good
(I did that with gaming mice tbf)
dont even need a kickstarter to do that
that was basically what happened with the model f reproductions
preorders started a few years before he managed to faithfully recreate the model f and start production
when the kickstarter is bad
what i ordered ain’t even a gb
it’s just taking forever
which keeb
Howdy everyone. I have a work PC and a home PC, and wanted an easy way to switch between my monitors which use DP.
So I bought this fella: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DTDG6NM3
Problem is, it works fine on my normal PC, no issues. But on my work PC, it makes windows explorer constantly reset, and all apps work fine, but like.. Pulling up settings is a slog, or even right clicking to try and get to settings stalls. Does anyone know what could cause this?

amazon reviews certainly are glowing lol (only 2.0 stars 💀)
tbh i'm not sure if the issue is caused by this
does your work pc work fine the moment you directly connect the pc to the monitor
I know. :C
Yes!
I should've listened to the reviews
that certainly is suspicious
i wonder if it's just a bunch of display latency? unless somehow the entire pc is lagging because of it
Yeah, I think I'm trying to over-engineer a problem I don't really have by using the KVM.
I'm really unsure, I was trying to see if anything was eating up resources, and it seems completely fine.
It's a pretty beefy PC
maybe try lowering the refresh rate
it may be windows doing something funky and not recognizing the device correctly and whenever you open settings it might keep trying and failing to get device drivers or smth
I think this also might be an issue.
definitely possible
Woops
I keep getting a popup for gigabytes sidekick thing
on my work comp
Yeah it's wild. I click on settings and it just freezes.
maybe thats the issue
if you're able to run scripts, looks like this would be able to change refresh rates in powershell https://www.powershellgallery.com/packages/PSWinUtil/1.5.8/Content/functions\Set-Monitor.ps1
Thanks much! I greatly appreciate all the help
model o or g305 (mice)?
Model o mouse wheel squeak is annoying
gotcha
Last night I was having ring finger discomfort with my fingertip grip
Is my mouse really too small?
I was looking this stuff up and thats what it seems like
just get smaller hands
im gonna play the worlds smallest violin

installed the wooting x ttc kom pom switches
what do i do
i ripped it off

when i
put it back in

and push hard enough
it works
if i push really hard
is that a good sign?
Get a cable with the same audio jack and splice the wires
Looks to be a 4 pole 3.5mm jack
Trrs
Might be cheaper to get just the connector to solder tbh
i dont have something to solder with
Soldering iron is 100% worth the like 30 bucks for a pinecil or such
If you can't solder then you can't really spice the cables together securely either
am definetly gonna buy one when i get a job
but as long as am using my parent's money , the Soldering iron has to wait
few months left and am gonna become 18
That's fair
You can also ask if your parents have some old soldering iron stashed somewhere though
Maybe they have one from their parents or such lol
they definitly don't
small aparentment , i would have found it
i always keep losing stuff
Oh well
so i pretty much seen every part of the house
but i really love DIY , ill just wait till am old enough to get a job or something
and buy everything i need
Idk if it works here, but does anyone have any suggestions for decent quality webcams?
What budget? A common suggestion is an old DSLR camera with video out
Truthfully, probably ~$60 or less.
Suggestion 1: phone camera
Suggestion 2: old ish point and shoot camera with micro HDMI or usb video out (micro HDMI out requires a capture card)
Suggestion 3: old mirrorless or dlsr (also usually requires a capture card)
Budget of 60 bucks should be able to do suggestion 2 fairly easily
Phone camera is free though (assuming you have a phone, which is notably not free)
Canon has software for using your DSLR as a webcam
No software needed
You could probably find a old 1080p (or better) point and shoot for like 30-50 bucks and then a capture card for 5 ish
Not all cameras support this afaik
Only certain lines
Yeah might only be newer ones
This has a compatibility list
Yeah off the top of my head I don't think you're finding any of those for under $60
some "older" canon cameras are compatible too. sony i believe also has software similar for their cameras and i think nikon? might be wrong with them
I think so
But cheap capture cards are also like a dime a dozen for a good enough one
($5)
Thank you guys. I'll look into this!!!
i never had a problem with running roblox and fortnite at the same time. now my ram runs at 93-96% and my game freezes really bad. i have 16gb ram. do i need more?
how much will 32 or 64?
32gb (2x16gb) should be enough for most games
If you want more, then 48gb (2x24gb) should be good
is 64 overkill
Only slightly, but 2x24 is the highest you can go without any performance penalties
does rgb generate more heat?
As in it's the highest you can go before your memory controller in the cpu may start struggling
Yes

why
Multiple reasons
Reason 1: the timings/clock are pretty low
Reason 2: it's Corsair
which brand is good?
why is corsair bad?
They have a reputation of either being cheap but really terrible bins that even their own xmp profiles are unstable
Or they have decent chips but are way overpriced
What abt these
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/6QcgXL/gskill-flare-x5-64-gb-2-x-32-gb-ddr5-6000-cl30-memory-f5-6000j3040g32gx2-fx5
Better
find me a good one (64gb)
which one would recommend? mine or the one you sent
Is this the power supply
yes.
I use 40GB in browser tabs alone for work.....
granted when working I have about anywhere from 50-100 tabs open but still.
I ended up picking up a nexigo n660p for about $50
$80 base + discount and a lil coupon
so im happy, it came in today and looks quite nice fortunately
Is crucial good
Crucial is micron's brand
They're generally decent
Micro center?
micron
I believe theyre associated with intel
A lot of brands really
They do chips
Ram
Is silicone power or g skill better
I think sillcon are generally just cheaper for a pretty equivalent product
but that also depends on the specifics
no one brand is better
look at the products specifically
99% of computer stuff is to that memo
for example there are some gigabyte boards id recommend but by god never touch their psus lmao
brand loyalty doesnt give you the best bang for your buck, because 9 times outta ten the brand aint loyal to you
These are in my cart. Which one should I. Get
curious what youre using 64 gigs for
Ok listen to me
listening
I used to be able to play two games at once with no problem that was being Roblox and Fortnite but yesterday, however when I was playing Fortnite while Roblox was running in the background at low settings, Fortnite decided it wanted to start FPS spiking and the trees weren’t loading in game. I also checked my task manager and noticed that my RAM was a 93%.
I also play Microsoft flight simulator but I also never had a prop me with that
how many gigs you running now?
also theres more than just ram being that bottleneck there
cpu is a big one
I’m in bed right now so I cannot check the specific brand that I have however, I could tell you one word prebuilt computer
16 GB
brand doesnt really matter for ram
except for corsair vengeance, those often show up DOA
I just want to have ram that will sustain me for a long time
lol yeah just go for 2x16 or 2x24 then, i have so much running with those and i never reach the limit
ram speed is what matters there really, not ram bandwidth
unless youre doing workstation stuff its not worth the money
are you running am4 or am5?
or intel
the speed itself is fine but id recommend cl30 typically
Don’t remember the name, however I believe it is a prize something with two ram slots
Prome*
Prime
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME Z390-P (LGA1151)
That’s the one
i9 9900k
RTx 2070 super
Again, it’s a prebuilt off of Amazon for $2000 that I bought six years ago ish
This is my first gaming PC and I plan to upgrade soon
ah okay thats a ddr4 gen, that ram isnt gonna work for ya
How do you know
9th gen intel doesn't support ddr5
ghosty you got any good recs for ddr4
I think ddr5 started at 12th gen for intel
i thought it was 13th?
But doesn’t the motherboard matter aswell?
not in particular, id just get something with at least 3200mts at 16 cas. I don't know enough about particular bins and such
motherboard pairs with cpu gens typically
yeah so if you upgraded the cpu you would have to upgrade the mobo as well, they changed the socket entirely
This good?
As the latest addition to the classic Ripjaws family, Ripjaws V series is the newest DDR4 memory designed for maximum compatibility and cutting-edge performance with the latest Intel® Core™ and AMD® Ryzen™ processors. Built with the finest components and tested under the most rigorous conditions,...
depends what you are doing with the system
.
for general use or even games 64gb is overkill, i'd say 32gb max. after that I'd rather upgrade the whole system
^
also with the stuttering hes experiencing i still think its the cpu being the hitch
also unfortunately you probably won't get great performance running multiple high demanding games at once, that is not just a ram limitation
yee
if only it were that simple lol
id just stick to your 16 gig kit probs and wait til you can upgrade
roblox and fortnite shouldn't be an issue with the cpu, I run more demanding games on a 9900k. still a very capable cpu
oh no its a good ass cpu
here some fun for you guys
i mean the ram upgrade could be worth if you can get a cheap 32 gig kit
do you have xmp or a custom oc on the ram? looks a bit odd
yee
though idk how accurate that data would be
prebuilt cyberpowerpc
i want to get a ddr5 system with the latest 2025 specs but i plan on upgrading during the summer when prices drop a lil
I mean, it's cyberpowerpc
I wouldn't be surprised
so should i upgrade in the first place or wait for summer or what
might honestly be worth checking bios and seeing if xmp is enabled
or google how to do that
itd be a nice upgrade, but that would be a free upgrade if its not on lol
but yeah 16 gigs is a bit rough
they say they plan on upgrading
how soon is soon?
summer
id honestly hold off on the ram upgrade then
thats money that could be put towards that
I remember back in the day, I started with 2gb ram, wishing I had 4gb and all my problems would be solved
And then fast forward a few years, and I had 4gb ram
And I wished I had 8gb ram
And then another like 2 years go by and I had 8gb ram
And I wished I had 16
And then I had 16gb, and I wished I had 32gb
Yeah I'd say move to a ddr5 system and carry over gpu, then upgrade gpu when you feel like it
Tbf 32gb ddr4 is really cheap
And then I have 32gb, and I wish for more
this exactly
its like what 40 bucks
Beamng eats ram
Yeah
if you plan on keeping your old system for other uses
could be worth having it hang around with a ram upgrade
server use and stuff if youre willing to put time and effort it
yeah flick that on bud rq
What does it do
I mean
itll let your ram run at advertised speed
How much would you trust the PSU in a cyberpowerpc prebuilt
shame on cyberpower

turning on xmp is one of the first things you do with new builds
shbould i still consider a 32 or 64gb tho?
what do you plan on doing with this pc after you upgrade?
do you plan on transferring any parts to a new system?
or building from the ground up
with pcs you have the option to reuse parts so take advantage of that
ik but i prob just get a whole new pc cuz my pc is kinda outdated
but prices rn are kinda crazy like 1.5k for a 4070
id hold off on buying a gpu. and nvidia isnt really worth the money nowadays, amd is kinda the only not entirely scam choice atm
7800xt for 450-500 would be pretty good if you can find that
intel cpus are kinda in a rough spot as well, their recent gens have been a bust
rn the best value for money honestly is a full amd build
i wish i could recommend intel b580 but those driver overheads are 💀
what kind of money do you plan on spending on a new rig?
3k
oh pft yeah you have pretty free roam for options, 1/3rd of that could easily go into upgrades that arent even the pc itself
@shadow bane got any good prices on xtx or 4080/4080s?
rip
i dont think i trust recommending 50 series atm
because you cant always rely on someone like gn to swoop in and make up for their mistakes
Can i make this work without soldering
i toke the headset to a nearby tech store
the prices of replacement were way too high
i also can make the headphone work by pinching it with a wrench
this works really well , if its risky to try splicing it , i could just use it like that untill i figure something better out
All you need to splice is something to strip the wires, electrical tape, and either a crimp or wire nut.
Don't get cheapo Amazon crimps, they fall apart
and for the replacement jack , can i buy something like this from amazon
Yes
Is there a big difference in performance between ddr4 and 5
Depends on the task/game, but it can be around 10%
Especially in 1% lows
There's not really any reason to go ddr4 for a new system unless you're on a tight budget or need a ton of ram
wym
The lowest fps your game drops to
oh
Theres a more technichal way to explain it
when it comes to ram for ex 32gb
I'm not capable of that explanation right now
is it better to buy 2x16 or 4x8
i heard on a yt vid that its better to have more ram sticks cuz its like a highway with more lanes
how abt ddr4
Too hard on the cpu to run 4 sticks at those speeds
cuz my motherboard is ddr4
Same difference really
Depends on your cpu and mobo
If it'll handle the same speed with 4 sticks, probably that
Can this have anything to do with ram? This is how my facebook page is loading. (only my facebook page cuz i got no other social media)
something to mention my ram also runs at 80-90% most of the time sometimes even 96%
Yeah you need more
These are the tabs that I have open rn and google is here
how much would you say
32gb or 64gb
i sometime have up to 8 tabs open on chrome
and i play 2 games at once
but i also plan to upgrade my pc during the summer if prices go down but i want to slightly upgrade my current one rn with ram ro smg
😭
yeah but that has to be open
Synapse doesn't have to be open, it can be in the background
Yeah only 68mb from synapse
yeah
so its not that
its roblox and fort
but i afk roblox games
so i just need to buy more ram and thats it
I mean, I don't understand why you would run Fortnite + Roblox + chrome but yeah more ram would likely help
You could also try a different browser that has better idle tab management
i play afk games on roblox
"play" afk games lol
you know what i mean
Yes and I think afk games are stupid. But yeah if you want to do all that, more ram should help
32 or 64?
32 should be plenty, that's double what you have now
You could also try closing chrome?
3.5gb in a 16g system is insane for a browser. Even for chromium I haven’t seen that high with other demanding apps
i have 5+ tabs open usually
I mean I usually have a dozen active tabs
Still why would you absolutely need your browser open if you are playing 2 games at once? I feel like that is enough to focus on in a given time lol
youtube
school
im a heavy multitasker
That’s just inefficient
if i would buy new ram, would my XMP on the ram be turned off? (i turned it on yesterday)
Yes you'd likely need to set it again
The brainrot is real
School + YouTube + Roblox + Fortnite
If you are adding it it might not work with xmp, if you are replacing with a new kit you would have to set the xmp in bios
wym
I am gonna buy new ram so i have to set it up?
Please don't suggest adding
Always use one kit of ram alone
It almost ALWAYS causes problems
And definitely causes problems on ddr5
Yeah I wasn't suggesting it, just trying to clarify
no i meant i would buy a kit of ram which consists of 2 ram sticks totaling 64 or 32
liek this for ex
but obviously not corsair
yeah that's fine
i need grado to make iems or something
been using them for the past month and switching back to iems for gaming and man i miss the grados already
ive been really enjoying them aside from the thin foam pads that they use. i need those really big foam pads that make on ear headphones to over ear headphones
Only thing I hate is the nonreplacable cable without resoldering
My friend modded it to have a 3.5mm jack
that too. cable feels nice but is a bit annoying too
This one doesnt show the timing?
https://www.newegg.com/crucial-64gb-ddr4-3200/p/N82E16820156327
Is this bad?
My dt770 still going after 5 years of abuse

i like my hd 6xx but i like the sound profile a bit more of my grados
it's 22-22-22
not very fast
very slow in the context of ddr4 3200

3600c18 is better, but what are you using it with?
idk why youre still going after 64 gigs lol
its wasted money
for what you want
He's the Fortnite + Roblox + YouTube + schoolwork "multitasker"
^
i dont remember schoolwork
i dont mean this in a mean way but he comes off as an older gentleman to me
my profile pic doesnt mean anything
I mean what CPU lol
2x32 3600c18 should be fine
i mean i didnt think you were 60+ lmao
thank you
Ok but I need to make a decision asap so you think I need 32 or 64gigs?
32
64 shouldn't even be a consideration for what you want
Hey guys, looking to sell my Logitech G910 and either buy new or trade for a G912-13. I had a look at ebay for values and am seeing anywhere from 50-100 dollars. My keyboard is in perfect shape, it just needs a really good cleaning. any idea on value or where to start?
save yourself and never buy another logitech keeb lol
if you can fix her up and get 100 bucks id grab a bridge75
or a rainy75
half the price of that keeb and a million times better
logitech switches are.. god

wouldnt wish them on anyone
not to mention plastic housing and keycaps?? monsterous
you could also get some new switches and keycaps and redo your board but im not sure if it's even worth salvaging ngl
LOOKED IT UP WHAT DOES IT NOT EVEN HAVE HOT SWAP HUHH??
i like the board but it doesnt have swappible keys and they are extremely loud
and i dont need all the macro keys lol
if you want rgb puke there are plenty of better ways to get it ngl
the keycaps should be swappable?
also macro keys are dorky
not on the 910 at least, i dont think
if they arent i banish logitech to the shadow realm
the uh, Bridge 75 is a 60% lol
so you like full layouts?
noted
anything else?
yeah
i like having the backlighting, and the black layout, and the rgb is really nice
do you want any via compatability?
ive got all Logitech perifs rn, so it would be nice to stay in the ecesystem
well, a headset lol
i would very much recommend against it
ah
you arent doing any favours for yourself bless your heart 😭
logitech mice are fine
but everything else
yeah I still have the mouse from my prebuilt, I'd love a new 502 mouse
i mean if it works it works
g305 could be a better alternative, or maybe even trying out razer deathadder to really break out the ecosystem
theres a lot of ways you can get better value out of your money with peripherals
true
does Corsair have any decent stuff? just ordered an Rm850x to help run my new 3080 arriving at the end of the week
Corsair peripherals are terrible
oki
Would not recommend getting anything from them peripherals wise
got it
i think you might need to ungamerfy your setup a bit there
rgb is fine
but you have a lot of marketing overblow, there are a lot of good brands that get overlooked
im tryna find a good keychron full thats in stock
although if youre gaming why the hell would you want to use a full unless you actually use the 10 key 😭
it just takes up mouse space
ive got a picture of my setup in #build-pics
also good fulls are difficult\
holy no mouse room
yeah you could really benefit from a smaller keyboard
yea thats one of the reasons I am looking for something else, this board is massive
how would you feel about 80% layout?
good access to keys and still roomy enough to use for games
I would miss the keypad for punching my pin in to login, but I coulg give it a shot lol
it would be worth in the long run imo
Keep in mind you can get a separate numpad if needed
that is true too
oh truw
although if you get used to using your num row youll never want to get rid of it
