Good luck, happy building
If I could get a PCIE4 riser for $30 or less, I'd go with a vertical mount with my closed loop GPU
True, but vert mount isn't usually for performance anyways
But I don't feel like spending more money for less performance, especially when the vGPU mount makes it much more annoying to access the safe boot button when I mem OC
Should be fun
Any one know what fan upgrade I can use with this?acer aspire tc-866-ur11
What's a closed loop GPU?
It's a gpu with an aio attached to it
Can I do that with my 3090?
Founders Edition
There's waterblock for FE for custom loops but I don't think there's any GPU AIOs that'll work with fe 3090
Imagine the thing you mount to cool your CPU, but for your GPU instead
And instead of having closed tubes that are already filled and connected to the radiator, you only have screw holes to mount your own tubing
Like I mentioned, if you want to go full custom loop, it will be $500
I don't think it's a good idea for a beginner
$500 is just the starter kit for a single component custom loop too
Fal'Cie -- do you have the black Torrent or the Gray?
Black, with light tinted glass
Nah it's a pretty dark gray, and yes it's matte
Sweet
Not too shiny
Do you know if the MSI EDGE Z690 has 2 addressable RGB ports?
Apparently I need them for the Torrent case but I cant find that info anywher
I think you have 3
says "MYSTIC LIGHT: 16.8 million colors / fancy lighting effects controlled in one click. MYSTIC LIGHT SYNC supports RGB and RAINBOW(ARGB) LED strips and Ambient devices"
But nothing else
lol
1 x 4-pin RGB LED connector
3 x 3-pin RAINBOW LED connectors <--- is this them?
Yes
Nice
It has 3
I'm really excited about this
So yes
I'm at $3200 all in so far and I think the only thing I need to pick up is an AIO if I need one and an SSD.
And that 3090 is at least half the cost
I have the edge. I like it. Unfortunately I'm not home so I can't tell you much about it :p
It was a bit more than the PRO-A which seems to have the same specs but the PRO-A is ugly.
Lol
It's a bit better than the Pro-A, it has a better VRM
Although the Pro-A is still sufficient unless you plan on really pushing it
Even with a LF2 you'll be limited by cooling, unless you put the radiator in an ice bath or put it outside in cold weather
What's an LF2?
Liquid Freezer 2
Ah
AIO
Gotcha
I like the idea of the Torrent having the PS at the top. That just makes sense to me. That's the way it always used to be. No sense dumping all that hot air straight into the case.
psus doesn't dump hot air into the case tho
it depends on how they're mounted
their fans just pull air in and out thru the back of the case

I cant daisychain my p12’s. I ordered a 5 pack and im wondering if these were the correct ones
What does pst mean
pwm sharing tech
Is the performance affected at all?
daisy chaining just means the fans in the chain will only run at the same speed
Any SSD gurus? The storage channel is a ghost town and I could use some guidance.
What is it called when you connect multiple case fans together to put them on one header? I think it starts with an D but for some reason I can’t remember the word for the life of me.
daisy chaining?
Yessssss, that’s what it was. I felt like I was having a stroke not being able to remember it 🤦♂️
can soft tubing be used with distro plates?
Yes
Why is custom water cooling expensive?
Many intricate parts
It doesn't have to be
(I'm talking in terms of a soft tube full loop costing 300$ instead of aio costing 100$)
did you seal around the die with any sort of paste or putty?
also that might be a bit much
nail polish where, around the die?
On the resistors
Nvm then
so are you like, benching your card for hwbot points or smthn?
or is this for daily driving
will this be vertical mounted
No
ok
well, for LM application, you should cover the whole die as sparsely as possible
image seems fine
just make sure you seal up the areas around the die
are AMD Wraith Prism decent coolers?
because I am gonna use it for the AMD ryzen 5 5600X,
Yea I'll always stay on stock.
Cause I saw one for 35$ but I am not sure if it has all of the cables in it.
The prism cooler for $35? There's better for cheaper
Yea, but my new motherboard screw are stripped and have no other option just to get the coolers with the clips on the sides.
Ah so you're stuck with the stock backplate? There's no access from the rear?
Oh god why did you use so much
Used more than Ray Charles
Is there a difference between a radiator and liquid cooling? If so, what?
Liquid is just the concept of cooling your parts with water, you need a pump and cpu block with preferably fans although technically not needed while the radiator is just one of these
Gotcha
I am trying to decide on cases and cooling (for i9-12900 and 3090 -- for gaming and maybe some mining) and I really like the Fractal Design Torrent but it doesn't have a place to mount cooling on top. The other option is the Meshify 2 which does have that but less airflow.
I have seen some folks mount a radiator inside the front fans on the Torrent and wondering if that's just as good.
The Torrent was designed around having predominately great airflow. Generally fans on a rad work better when "pushing" air through, and a front rad works plenty fine. In the following pic, it's a "push-pull" setup & I scribbled over the "pull" fans as an example. the 2 curved lines would be the preferred tubing route, as far as I know. (so any air bubbles would go up and stay away from goin through the tubing to pump/water block). edit: i've heard top rad is best, but idk how much better it actually is overall.
You can choose whatever path for the air you wish, orient the fans to make it so.
Yup. Just trying to figure out the best configuration for me.
Seems pretty subjective.
would this be the appropriate place to ask about non-rgb case fan recommendations?
this is how the current build is looking https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tgk7Y9. Mainly looking to nab a 3 pack for the front of the case
Personally would swap some other parts around, like aio for freezer ii, ssd for kc2500, monitor for m27q, but you can grab some Arctic P12's off Amazon.
Monitor was apart of newegg combo 3060ti combo so 🤷♂️
i havn't bought AIO, or SSD yet though
kc2500 is just 30$ cheaper for a good drive, evo plus fine if you want evo plus for sustained
NZXT is just sad
Yea, just better performance than x53 and any other standard asetech designs
cool, thanks for the recommendations!
I'd say there's no one right answer, but many definite wrongs.
btw, for the price of Ballistix 3200c16 atm, you can just get ballistix 3600c16
81$ vs 85$, might as well grab the higher xmp kit for 4$
Crucial Ballistix gaming memory is designed for high-performance overclocking and is ideal for gamers and performance enthusiasts looking to push beyond standard limits. With hundreds of awards, multiple esport championships, and numerous overclocking world records under its belt, Crucial Ballist...
I actually got the 32 gig 3200c16 for 80$ when it was on sale the other day
do you know if the freezer ii works into the pst that some P12's have?
Unless you have the RGB P12s, they should work fine. They're pretty much the same fans
They might be pst, but I don't think you should daisy chain more than 2/3 fans in a row into the same header anyways
Actually the ones that come pre-installed might not have PST
I was thinking on just buying the 5 pack, and putting one into a different build
P12 is really low power, 0.12A each for the ones I have. You can have 7 on a single 1A header.
My fan control modes are auto, voltage, and pwm
Also the rpm is going crazy for 1 of the fans
The other fan is N/A even tho its spinning
All my current fans are plain 1100-1200rpm so I "disabled" the pwm setting in bios. It made my bottom front intake run at 300rpm.
You sure your bottom fan aint dc?
pro tip: make sure a cable isnt in the way. I had the same issue, and then noticed a cable was preventing it from spinning
if to me, indeed all my fans are plain 3pin (no pwm) & also have a 3 speed 140mm Antec fan on the low or medium setting. I should test out 1 or 2 of the Arctics
Ahh yeah if you do pwm on a non pwm fan it just goes to 100%
laptop fans were very clogged
now i can actually feel air coming out of the fans
downside is that they are louder now

Well the comparably priced nh-u12s performs about the same. The nh-d15 still beats it but is more expensive.
^
Eh, not against the $40-55ish dual tower Thermalright options. They just need to hurry up and include the lga1700 bracket.
Not really especially for the price, their only kind of unchallenged product id the d15
2 rads on one aio when 😤
why though?
Why not. It's like a 480mm rad split in 2 pieces, lol. Think about the possibility.
2 pipes already enough of a PITA 😅
Probably. For smaller cases, wouldn't be limited to 360 or 240mm worth of rad. 🤘. 1 front rad, 1 up top, both for cpu would be neat.
oh, imagine the arguments about the proper layout with 2 rads? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
"pump block must be exactly half way between the barbs of radiator 1 and radiator 2, but radiator 2 must be below the azimuth of the easter star
Can you imagine how much power the 13900k is gonna pull
Also would be cool for HEDT systems not needing custom loop basically
I'd imagine it more of a daisy chain the rads type thing like with a custom loop
My 12900K draws a crap ton of power at max load
Gets crazy hot even with a 360mm AIO
I'm getting ready to do a 12900k build and trying to figure out cooling options myself 😦
I wish I went custom loop, only reason I did not was I am lazy lmao
Radiators, AIOs, CPU coolers. No idea what to do.
I have all my parts and haven't pulled the trigger on a case yet because I don't want to back myself into a corner cooling-wise but I am itching to get this build done.
In terms of having the most options cooling wise, you'll be looking at p500a and 7000d/5000d airflow, those can just fit everything and do everything well (5000d/7000d better for custom loops though afaik)
But generally, aio will be your best option when it comes to best performance under like 200$
That's super helpful Mr1111
Well and o11 is pretty designed for custom loop
I was looking at the Meshify 2 and Torrent too
Because you can't add any cooling on top?
Yes, and stock is 2x180 at the front
Is 2x180 not good?
It's not common
It has brackets for 3x120 according to someone though, but you'll be missing out on a bit of that width
I saw some Torrents with radiators mounted on top of the 2x180 in the front and on top of the 140s on the bottom but I don't know anything about radiators and how they compare to AIO. In fact, I don't know anything bout cooling.
In the Torrent, you can do 3x140 in the front too
Don't remember if it'll do 3x140 rads but it prob does
There are solutions where you can use custom loop rads with a custom AIO kit but most of those are old and not worth it for the price
Is the Torrent airflow really any better than the Meshify 2?
Not really noticeably better
I like the idea of 3x140 on the bottom blowing directly on my 3090
So I think that's what I'd be giving up by doing with the Meshify 2 vs the Torrent
Well
Torrent is a decent bit better from a case perspective, not really noticeable from an overall temp perspective
The question is, do you really need that :p
I have no idea
I will be running a 12900k and the 3090, for flight sim and maybe some mining
(4c is a lot in a case-to-case comparison, but if you have good cooling, it doesn't matter as much, and afterall, GN tests with an air cooler, and torrent was loud as heck)
4c as in 4 degrees Celsius
GN as in Gamers Nexus, one of the people that tested Fractal Torrent
My opinion is this, if you're going to go aio, torrent is probably not the best option, otherwise, it's great for air coolers and can be fun with custom loops
Meshify is good, but there's other options still around
Custom loops are expensive though, right? And I'd have to learn how to do them.
Yes and kind of yes
It's 300$+ generally for full loop, and you'll have to do your own research on what goes together with what, and how to maintain it
Oh, that's not too bad.
But draining can be annoying
I looked at the p500a and 5000d/7000d and just don't like the look of them.
Alright
If I do a custom loop, I can use it to cool both the GPU and CPU, right?
Yes
But do keep in mind custom loop isn't as simple as putting in an aio, having to fill things in your case with water always requires caution
If I want to run the lines all pretty with right angles and stuff .. is it correct to assume that's when it gets expensive?
Hardline tubing makes it like 3x harder than just doing soft tubing
But tubes don't really cost much over like 30$
It's the blocks and pump/res that's expensive
Would I need 2 if I want to cool both my GPU and CPU?
Cpu block costs somewhere around a hundred, GPU block another hundred or more, pump res another hundred or more, tubes and fittings might cost you 50$, coolant another like 30$
Probably wrong, throwing out random numbers, but you get a sense of things
Gotcha
Do you know what case this is?

Not a good case?
O11 is fine, good for custom loops, just a bit overused, just saying LTT isn't usually the best with information, they're the people that'll probably tell you to get a 800$ kit over 500$ worth of parts that'll do the same thing imo
It's also okay, personally I'd go with phanteks p500a or corsair 5000d airflow
I was hoping for something with some fans on the bottom to cool my GPU
Not really needed
Not even when mining?
Nope
Mining uses the memory also if you're mining right you will have lower temps than gaming
I don't know anything about mining but figured since I have a 3090 I should try it when I am not gaming
Yeah you should, great at mining
Although if anything you'd want to put an extra fan on the back of the gpu
To cool the memory on the back
The back = the part that's facing down?
In normal orientation that would be the side facing the cpu
Thanks
Still trying to figure out my case/cooling Fal'Cie 😦 I have all my other parts and ready to go but so much to learn about cooling.
Tbh with mining you typically need even less cooling at the GPU, you'd typically uv and uc, and cooling vram tends to be more of a heat transfer issue rather than hear dissipation issue (bad pads)
I do know I should replace the pads on the 3090 ..
Usually a good idea, but not always necessary
I think I had an epiphany while walking the dog.
If I don't really need to water cool my GPU, and my CPU only cost $550, what's the point in spending a couple hundred bucks to water cool the CPU? I assume no harm will come to it and if, after a couple of years, the heat takes it out, it will be time to upgrade anyway, no?
For a custom loop, yea, not really worth it for performance, and every new socket will probably mean you'll need a new CPU block
So I think I'm just going to go with the torrent. Unlikely I will overclock so the fans should be fine. If I do overclock, I can add an artic liquid freeze II 120 for the CPU or a small air cooler that won't block the airflow in the case.
Just a note, 120mm AIOs suck
A lot of the time, it'll lose to a good AIO
I figured as much but the artic II seems to have a thicker radiator and I probably won't need much cooling.
Think of it this way, a radiator is basically the heatsink on an air cooler
If your radiator has less fins than your air cooler, your air cooler is going to perform better
Blocking the airflow isn't really a thing when air is supposed to go through it
Good point
And as a reminder, radiators aren't just a big block of metal, they look like this, air still flow right through
It's like drawing wiggly lines with a metal sheet
Built?
Sounds like the noctura dh15 is the way to go if I decide to overclock?
Nah, Arctic freezer 360mm/420mm
For air coolers, the biggest baddest air cooler is le grand macho
lol -- that's the problem -- no place for those in the Torrent!
Iirc fal said there's brackets for mounting it front mount
I think you need to remove the 2x180 fans though
Or could've been someone else saying it
You can put them in the bottom tho
No, I think you're right. But I think you need to remove the 2x180 fans to drop in a 360mm.
Yea
But it's not like AIOs don't come with fans
And 180mm fans are good but it's not like they're many leagues ahead of everything
Does anyone make a 120mm that is 18mm thick or smaller?
Yes, nf-a12x15 for one is 15mm thick

So, use case is my new case has riser brackets with low clearance that are also mounting brackets for storage cages. Best method of introducing more bottom air is to fit them under the risers.
Of which I have limited clearance.
I have a R5 3600x @stock + arctic freezer 34 eSports duo, it reaches 70°C at full load...
I think that it's a lot, my old 2600x ran at <52°C
Try re-mounting the cooler. That seems like a contact issue.
I'll try
Do I have to reapply the thermal paste?
Last time I didn't apply lot of pressure (as i was told) while mounting the cooler... Do i have to screw it until I can't anymore?
Ideally yes, you'd repaste it. It's probably fine though. Probably.
You'll want to get it finger tight as far as you can. Avoid using tools, they can overtighten easily.
Well they made it like that for a reason, right? Tools are fine in that case
Just don't force it tight, just until there's a good amount of resistance
Maybe I applied too much pressure on one edge and contact went 📉
Could be. Try to get it as even as you can.
How can I check if it has even pressure?
The best way to do it is to do one turn at a time on each screw, then when it starts to get tight go to half turns
Okk ty
@knotty sparrow + I also get 55°C when CPU is not under load with fan @50% speed
That's not normal...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097DVSKM1/
This caught my attention. What do you guys think?
Well it's a pretty good $60ish cooler. I bought the grey one for $51. Not tons worse than certain $90+ heatsinks also. The peerless assassin 120 is often a solid $5-10 cheaper so give it a glance.
Oh, nice
I don't need an air cooler right now though so I probably won't buy any, it just caught my attention
If you end up w/ 10/11 gen intel, they're deffo worth a thought. On Amazon they often have $4-6 "coupons" you click before adding to cart. That's part of how I paid $51 incl tax.
Good to know, I probably won't be touching 10th or 11th Gen for another year or two though
Its good, better on amd ihs, intels ihs does better with peerless assassin 120 iirc
My main system doesn't need an upgrade and I'm focused on currently ocing lga 2011, then 2066, then 1366
Oh interesting
I don't have any amd systems though, besides my own which has an aio
i have 9 fans and my pc still has an overheating problem and the overheating problem leads to my pc crashing
What case are you using
Yea
Yep, that's when a lvl 1 notices they can't post a pic. 9 fans is overkill btw. Can do plenty w/ 2-3 front intake and 1 or 2 exhaust. Constant positive airflow is a big part.
Oh yeah, my new P500A dropped my load temps 20 degrees
3 fans is enough
And that’s 20 degrees with no working rear fan for some reason
Positive pressure means it'll push the air out any openings, whether the rear fan helps or not. The exhaust fans are more to help direct the airflow.
I don't believe in intake fans 😁
hello, i would like to quell my 3080TI memory temps, is it possible to like buy a fan in the case that can "float" to a part of the system to extract heat better that way? or would i have to make some ghetto method for it?
Best way to drop memory temps will be a thermal pad swap
but wouldn't that invalidate the warranty with nvidia? it's a FE card
could've sworn nvidia said it would invalidate it just opening it
Nope. Only if you break it by opening it. US law says so. "Warranty void if removed" stickers are illegal too.
what would be a recommendation for type of pad and thickness? hadn't used thermal pads before

i never thought i would see the day where my laptop gpu is idling at 40c
What are a good cheap case fans looking for 3-5 pack
Also I know my motherboard only has a couple fan header slots, so can I stack fanheaders?
Arctic p12 good cheap fans
Usually headers are rated for 1a, I wouldn't do more than 1 splitter per header, you can get fan hubs for more fans
Ok are those expensive and also I only have one exhaust fan right now in my case xd, so I’ll probably put two up top and maybe 3 in front
Should I have them all intake or should I put a couple of the fans to exhaust
Front intake, top exhaust
Ok ty
Yw
Does anyone have suggestions for fan/rgb wire extensions? My wires are just kinda lying there and its not very organized.
Which upgraded thermal pads should I use to replace the OEM thermal pads on my Nvidia FE 3090?
thermaltake odyssey are nice e
Has EK fixed their issues with the 3090 thermal pad sizes and thickness for each card variant
Do cpu tower coolers get particularly hot? I was trying to stick another fan on my cooler and they're held on with the weird little wire brackets and for whatever reason despite using the same kind of fan that comes on the cooler there's too much space so I was going to put little bits of gasket rubber under the corners so that it will actually hold
I just want to make sure it's not the kind of thing where I need to be concerned about the rubber melting
I have a case like the Lian Li 011 Dynamic. I also have a 360 AIO I want to top mount. I also have 6 case fans for the side and bottom mount locations. What kind of intake/exhaust configuration should I use for the fans. I know my CPU will be well cooled but I want to make sure the GPU and ambient temperature are as low as possible.
Cool. Thanks @shrewd juniper . Any chance you know the right thickness?
What's a good air cooler for my i9-12900k on an MSI EDGE Z690 board in a Fractal Design Torrent case?
12900k is not really recommended to be ran with an air-cooler but a Noctua DH-15 iirc should be tolerable but idk the dimensions of the case and cooler size
It's either air cooler or 120mm arctic freezer II. I don't have room for anything else in this case.
In this case the dh-15 would be better than a 120mm aio but I would check the size dimensions of the case and cooler
I have no plans to overclock my CPU. Just going to be gaming (flight sim, and recording some audio with Audacity) and maybe some bitcoin mining. So I will likely just run the cpu stock. I will prob tweak the GPU though.
Running my 12900K stock with a 360MM AIO it still gets pretty hot
Even with Noctua fans in a good airflow case
It spikes really high under load
What's the load?
How do I decide between Noctua NH-D15 and NH-D15. I have an MSI EDGE Z690 with G.SKILL TRIDENT Z RGB ram.
You just said the same HSF twice 😅. 1 of the few air coolers decent for the 12900 w/o hitting 90C often
They cool similarly, asymmetric is of course if you need it for how it's less close to gpu slot I think. S model also comes with only 1 fan perhaps. Can always add a 2nd fan anyways.
Hi guys, im stuck at building my PC at the AIO part... I thought I didnt need to buy the LGA1700 bracket because asus motherboards are compatible i have the Asus ROG strix z690-f and im trying to install the Lian Li 360 Galahad... and the Lian Li store says to get the mounting bracket need to order from Aliexpress and they are sold out.... any help here? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003370699155.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.25413c00Cw87vX&mp=1

yes, the lian li store says you need a 1700 bracket for a 1700 cooler
however
your board has support for the 1200 bracket
allowing you to instead install your cooler as if it were just a 1200 board
follow instructions in manual for 1200
Ok so the 1200 instructions should be work for me for this board and cooler?
I know i should of ordered the lga 1700 before but i remember hearing that onl Asus motherboards can still be compatible
yes
I dont, if you Google.it tho I'm sure there's a good few people.repadding
Is it a good idea to get a different thermal paste vs the stock one that comes with the AIO ex. Lian Li ones?
Thank you 🙂 I haven't put the AIO on just testing the mounting bracket, i think it might work
This is R5 3600x die
The blue part is the surface the arctic freezer 34 eSports duo can cover (2.4*2.4cm)
Could this be the problem? Maybe the surface covered is not enough big for the CPU...
Does it make sense?
Maybe this is the problem to high temperatures
Stock is fine
Hey @azure crown just noticed newegg.ca has it available its better than 6 week shipping 3-9 days, https://www.newegg.ca/p/0VE-04WG-00001?Description=Lian-Li Intel 12 Gen, LGA 1700 Kit&cm_re=Lian-Li_Intel 12 Gen, LGA 1700 Kit-_-9SIA7BBGRK7291-_-Product but its $23 i wish i just ordered it from aliexpress like 2 months ago for 1penny.... should i get this?
keep in mind, the IHS helps fix that as long as there's no huge hotspots
does the 1200 bracket not work?
How can i tell if it works? should i try putting it in without thermal paste to see if its secure?
I was able to put 3 screws in but i cant seem to put the last screw in seems like its not high enough?
did you tighten down each screw individually??
you cant do them one at a time.
the manual should tell you how to properly screw down the cooler
yeah lol i guess thats prob why, i think i got it!
how do i know if it will be ok or if any issues?
if theres mounting pressure on the IHS, its good
just try your best to tighten each screw evenly
I don't know how I didn't notice that...
@marsh badge is it normal that they move back and forward?
As i remember from the previous builds it always moved, I think it's for compatibility with coolers
Because some might be a bit taller than others
(yes, it is normal that it moves, the backplate is the same from the old motherboard, screws too) probably
What does this mean IHS? heatsink? how do i know if there is mounting pressure?
Integrated Heat Spreader, its the silver shell on the CPU
Is it ok if it is curved a bit? Or am I applying too much pressure @marsh badge
How will i know if theres good mounting pressure, i guess when i turn it on and check the temperatures?
until you couldn't turn with light force
that's when to stop
yep, only way to know
I guess from there il know if i need to buy the lian li 1700 mount, atleast i know i can get it from newegg just more expensive for $23 CAD... afterwards atleast its not long for shipping versus Aliexpress
Anyone know any high airflow fans like the NF-F12 off the top of their head?
Arctic p12/14 always a good shout, phanteks t30 are also nice iirc
Yea I thought about those but I think I want to go with more airflow to be safe. Looking for a fan to help with condensation issues
Plus I only want to have to set up 1 fan instead of multiple, easier that way
My dad's system has a bunch of p12's though lol
I mean forks uses p12s on top of the ln2 pot for condensation
just one?
i guess if he's fine with use just one even sometimes then alright
you gonna be OCing at all?
nope
yea it should work well enough, provided your case is decent
think it's quite bad, cm masterbox lite 5
3 intake fans infront
1 outtake at back lol
Oh i know that case lol, a friend of mine has one
if you have 3 intake fans then im pretty sure it'd still be fine
Heres one with 1 fan, I've seen him use 2 as well tho
#build-pics message
oh alright
Can you edit this message please that word is not allowed, crap is tho
my apologies
No worries
I'd get a gammaxx 400/gt(e)(a) of vetroo v5 or id cooling se 224 xt or if your case fits it, a thermalright frost spirit 140 is a beast and like 40$
Forky uses delta fans sometimes though
how necessary is it though?
as in, delta finger chopper
Ehh considering your case I'd heavily advise, like it won't hurt the cpu it will just perform better with the better cooler
And even if you don't wanna oc, you should turn on precision boost overdrive (pbo) basically better boosting
I think Im gonna grab an f12 3k rpm, should be good for pretty much whatever ill need it for, while not melting my fan headers
would it be better for a new case instead?
idk what GPU you have rn, but if you plan on upgrading to something hot, you'll probably want to get a new case either way
Well yes as it would probably help with gpu temps too but it's gonna be a bit more costly
They have 1070 ti iirc
lol mine is mining rn and its at 53c, then again the fans are running
oh its just at 25% of its tdp limit anyway
Idle temps don't mean a lot without knowing fan speeds and room temp
Is 65°C (R5 3600x) under max. load good?
Or should I screw the cooler more?
Min. 52°C under 20% load
Good or bad?
BRUH
Still gets to 69°C
Any reason not to go with the liquid freezer 420 over the 360 or the p14s over the p12s if the price isn't that much different?
Also what are you defining as max load?
420 has slightly larger cooling capacity, needs bigger case, 360 can fit in a lot more cases, same thing with p12/p14 but it matters on the case like in some cases you can only fit 2x140mm or 3x120mm in front, in that case I'd go 3x120mm
yea itd be a difference between p95 and gaming
or y-cruncher, destroyer of my system stability
Meshify 2 case -- I think I can put either the 420 or 360 in the top
Yes you can too mount a 360/420, I'd grab the 420, might as well
It's only $20 difference for the A-RGB model
Seems worth it
And the 140 fan pack is only $7 more for the pwm pst variant
Looks like I can't run the 420 on top in the Meshify 2 because it won't clear my memory and the front/rear fans. So I guess I am stuck with the 360 😦
Does anyone know if you can connect the Lian Li Galahad 360 along with 2 sets of the SL120 fans into 1 SL120 controller? or the AIO needs to be plugged into the mobo separately? Also can you use 1 controller for both SL120s?
Are fractal aios any good?
Because of pricing, I'd just go with an EVGA 240 or 360CLC, or an arctic freezer 240 or 360
Galahad is decent, bit pricey but fine if you're willing to pay for it, i wouldn't get it if you're going 12th gen tho, lian li have been having issues with shipping the lga1700 bracket so I'd advise ek rgb or arctic liquid freezer
I swear you suggested this AIO before hahaha it’s too late now!
Hey guys is this the best or correct fan placement as well for the PSU?
PSU is good. I'd probably flip the side fans, but perhaps run it as is a while and record temps.
Thank you yeah I was thinking same thing when I finished I felt those side fans maybe be other way around
Actually I thought a minute and probably should flip, so you'd then have 6in 3out and positive pressure instead of 3in6out negative pressure.
Honestly I think that’s the way to go, but apparently aesthetically won’t look as good? Gotta see much difference it will be to see if it’s worth it
Well you already see the back frames of the bottom fans. It'll look plenty good, as side fans being intake is very common. 3in 6 out would sort of suck extra dust in from anywhere it could, being such a negative pressure ratio.
I have, still good but their 12th gen bracket is taking forever to ship to people
i think we went over this in the past and hes just using the 1200 mounting holes on the board
ya know, because asus smart
Oh ehhh
Those mounts are meh from what I've heard but it works til lian li can ship one
i assume maybe the distance from the board to the top of the ihs is shorter for the 1700 socket? thats all that could realistically make it not mount as well
Perhaps the ihs is taller/shorter on the 12gen so a new bracket actually makes quite a difference.
yeah, shorter
would decrease mounting pressure
regardless, i would intake from the bottom and top, then exhaust through the 360mm rad through the side
Also, cpus and waterblocks actually have a curve to them so if the curve doesn't meet right above the die on the ihs you're not gonna have as good cooling
yeah, but thats the cold plate, not the mounting bracket
also why are you apron
oh wait i see what your saying
but i couldnt imagine the 1200 mounting bracket could result in an offcentered cold plate alignment
Pato autocorrected to apron on sips phone
lol
Bingo
damb
16 fans and 4 radiators ....work in progress
sheesh
just about enough to keep a 12900k cool
Arctic freezer 34 eSports duo + R5 3600x
= 100% load cinebench R32
Max. 68°C good?
Consider that I'm using the base fan curve
Totally fine
Ok
But...
Big question
Is fan 0% speed the minimum speed the fan can run at?
I have Corsair LL120 (min.600rpm max.1500) at 0% speed they still spin... I thought they would just stop spinning
The cpu fan has to be spinning always
Ah, well that depends on your motherboard mostly and what software you use
MSI bios
PWM or DC mode?
I'm using pwm, maybe if I set it to DC (voltage) i can make the fan stop spinning
Pwm
That's what I was thinking too. There's a point where the voltage is too low for it to spin.
Yes, obviously, but how can 0% speed pwm make the fan still spin
Strange
But 0% pwm on CPU cooler makes the fans stop spinning
So it changes how many Amperes it uses?
It changes the width of the signal pulses
I let cinebench running for a bit and CPU temp: current: 69.4°C max: 70.3°C
That's good I think
Apparently even with adjusted fan curve the freeze 34 can't help much the 3600x under max load...
I watched sometemperatures benchmarks for 3600+freezer 34 and the max. temperature for 3600 is 73°C
And my 3600x goes to only 70°C
So that's pretty good
(All with 100% fan speed)
70 is perfectly fine. It doesn't even think to start throttling frequency until 80
I have a question. I’m brand new to building pcs. I got a i5-12600k and I don’t know what cpu fan would be a good match with it. Can anyone give me some budget choices?
do you plan to overclock?
I don’t plan on overclocking
scythe fuma 2 will do, depending on country
Should be able to do pa120 for US
Btw couldn't find fuma 2's lga1700 brackets
dont think it has brackets yet
Found lga1700 brackets for pa120
sick
Scythe coolers support the new sockets on the market. Users can use the SCMK-1700 kit to upgrade most Scythe coolers to Intel’s LGA1700 socket without changing the entire cooler. Cooler Compatibility: MUGEN 5 Series SCMG-5000/SCMG-5100/SCMG-5PCGH/SCMG-5102AR/SCMG-5100TUF/SCMG-5100T/SCMG-5100BKA/S...
And I dunno, thermal right straight up lists lga1700 as compatible on their pa120 page without saying any brackets necessary, oh well, that bracket listing lists pa120
fair
Take the but out of the link
Danke
So the Scythe is fine?
Reason: Bad word usage
I’m building a list of parts I need to build a new pc as mine is super old and can’t keep up with new games
Pa120 will probably perform similarly to fuma 2, pa120 just also has a better looking rgb varient
What temperatures should we be monitoring that is considered not good for CPU and GPU? think im done building my PC need to install windows + drivers! almost at the finish line!!!!!
Technically speaking both the cpu and gpu have limiters to keep it from getting too high.
Ideally you want the cpu to hit a max of 80C and gpu core can hit 90C, less than that is better
thank you ill keep 80 and 90 in mind then, how long should i run tests for?
Most of the time you'll see the peak temps within 15 minutes or so
You can go longer for stability testing. On critical systems I do a 24hr stress test.
Hey all. I have 2 cheap kingwin 80mm fans in my Dell prebuilt for exhaust. Is there 1 larger equivalent that would work better? Or should I get 2 noctua 80mm that will exhaust more air?
It’s Dell Inspiron 3670 for reference.
I’m also getting ready to install the Veetro V5 cpu cooler.
LEDs on my case fans are occasionally flashing white for a split second, thoughts?
would it be overkill to have 3 120mm for outtake on the top, 3 140mm for intake at the front, and 1 140mm for outtake at the rear
for p500A case
Yea because that's slightly negative pressure. Perhaps that but leave out the frontmost top fan. 👍
so I have 2 120mm on top towards the back?
above the CPU
do the p500a case fans allow all to be chained as 1 connector?
or would I need a splitter
Tbh idk, just that generally positive pressure is better so 3in 2out or 3in3out. I'd expect that case to maybe have builtin splitter/hub.
Splitters on the headers will work fine
You can use between 3 and 8 fans on a single header, depending mostly on the fan power draw
are there headers on the p500a fans?
headers are what the mobo has that fans plug into.
sorry I meant splitters
Some cases have 2 or 3 fans intake fans w/ builtin sort of splitter. Might have to buy 1 or 2 splitters though (and/or a pack of extensions), although most mobos do have 3+fan headers.
- 1 x CPU Fan Connector (4-pin)****
- 1 x CPU/Water Pump Fan Connector (4-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control)*****
- 3 x Chassis/Water Pump Fan Connectors (4-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control)******
I could use the CPU/water pump fan for a chassis fan right
Indeed
ive got 3 arctic f12s I think I could daisy chain into 1 connector then
does it come with controller
ooooof dont get those
overpriced
and dont look to perform well either
get arctic p12s
argb if you want rgb
LEDs on my case fans are occasionally flashing white for a split second, thoughts?
For some reason my cpu fan is on 0 rpm and my idle temp has gone up by +20
anyone know what the cause could be?
+30 degrees
id suggest turning off your pc and double checking the fan header hasnt come loose
When I swapped the header to CPU_Fan it gave me errors
This has never happened before
@shrewd juniper @timid carbon is there anything else i can try please? my cpu is idling at 75* rn
put the pump where the fan is and the fan where the pump is
header wise
No
trash
Any quick recommendations on some thermal paste
I assume something Arctic or Corsair should work
(will be using with an AIO)
use the stuff that comes with it in the box
if youre reapplying - arctic mx4/mx5
yea going for a reapply, gonna take apart pc and dust everything
im sorry $99? for 3 fans?
That's not exactly uncommon
Doesn't mean it's worth that price but there's lots of fans like that
damn i didnt know fans cost that much tho
what are the best budget cpu air coolers for 5600x?
<=$40?
Glance at thermalrights peerless assassin 120. $40ish
wat about id cooling se 224 xt
really?
5600x is hot
Thermalright Frost spirit 140
Se 224xt can do a 5600x just better to spend a tad more
what if im not OCing
Well you should be turning on pbo anyway
What country?
singapore
well I mean I was interested in the se 224 xt
wouldve went with just the stock cooler but wouldn't mind spending a little just for a btr cooler
Se 224 xt would do it fine yeah
any better options at the same price or smth
Thats why i asked you what other options you have in your price range
I'm not very sure what other options there are
but if it does the job then I'll prob just get it
Building my system today .. any guidance on applying the thermal paste to my i9-12900k?
Just apply it normally
X method best method
X shape is best but all is okay
More thermal paste over not enough imo
What?
Oh i getchha now
Took me a few reads
Which thermal pads do I want to replace the OEM thermal pads on my 3090
depends what oem
nvidia fe 3090
All of them probably
Sorry, I meant what are the best non-OEM thermal pads to use
Thermalright odessy are good
Thanks Pato!
I don't support anyone has an MSI EDGE Z690 used with an Arctic Liquid Freezer ii 360? I can't get the backplate on even though I have the lga 1700 kit. The mounting plate that holds the socket onto the PCB is in the way.
Hey I have a Nzxt 510 case.
It has horrible airflow.
Is there anyway to help it without getting a different case?
make sure there is no front fans and take off the side panel
Why take off the front fans?
the h510 relies on the negative pressure in the stock setup, putting fans in the front negates that and actually makes it worse
So what would be the best fan configuration then?
Stock, 1 back, 1 top in exhaust
I thought positive pressure inside the case was better?
In like 99.9% of cases but not the h510
Positive/negative pressure doesn't matter. Personally I'd rather just run all exhaust fans. Depends on the case and your component layout.
Get a 4u with 3 120's up front 🙂
Why would you want alll exhaust
the dust
The difference isn't significant imo, and I just blow dust off the computer ever so often
Leaf blower works well
I mean, look at 4u 24 bay servers, the fans are always in the middle yet dust on the drives just isn't really an issue. I think "negative pressure = dust" assumes that you have both a dust problem, and that the intake fans will have filters on them.
Well most cases do have a front dust filter and pc on floor
And pets don't help either
Ooo chromax nice choice
how thick of the line tho
Doesn't really matter tbh, a bit thicker doesn't hurt, just 2 lines by squeezing out the thermal paste
For a 12700K I did the X method and I can oc with great headroom thermally
I always just spread it thin, but the X method seems pretty good.
Anybody using the lga 1700 kit with an Arctic LF II? I can't get it to work.
Thanks I worked hard for it
I don't know too well on who is year one and two
Spreading is just as good as the X method. Testing shows results within margin of error.
@nova peak no buying or selling in this server
Could I receive some help please. Will the noctua nh-d15 and nh-u12a both fit in Corsair 4000d airflow case? L1200 mount i7-10700f
Double post ^
Interesting pic, I simp for these P14's all the time https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/930562916871204894/940026742121328650/Radiator.jpg
wow thats interesting
Interesting
Anyone using an Arctic LF with an LGA 1700 kit??
I can't get the backplate to seat right and Arctic tech support is apparently non-existent.
Any input on returning my frost spirit 140 w/ cpu, or keep hsf and maybe just buy a lga1700 bracket later? 3days to return, lol.
Lga1700 brackets that should fit fs140 if you want to buy the brackets

Tec testing https://i.imgur.com/zHjfMDy.jpeg
Thnx 1111, decent price. Would total $60, but still pretty good.
Can't say I can tell what's going on there, but seems nice and chilly, a12x25 seems to be doing its job
TEC module between the u12a and the 1KG copper bar, ambient temp is 20c
afaik tec just pulls the heat, so tec pulls heat from copper bar for u12a to dissipate? I see the 250 in the background, tec running at 250w?
2.5 amps, 12.1 volts
Yeah, when powered, one side of the tec gets cold, the other gets hot. Not sure how efficient, will have more data once the temps stop dropping.
I could calculate it with a calorimeter, but I'm lazy, just going to measure the bar temp as a function of displacement from the tec
Wayyy off here
is the id cooling tg-25 thermal paste that comes with the se 224xt good enough
It's been working for me
oh you got an se 224 xt too?
Yeah working fine for me too
Is there any water blocks for rx 580 cards
I'm looking into one but I can't find one on newegg
Probably because it would be stupid to watercool a RX 580, it's not a high end card
The waterblock would have cost as much as the GPU itself did couple years ago
True but graphics cards r still really expensive right now
Yeah but no point spending like 400$ on a custom loop for a 580
At that point sell the 580 and buy a scalped 3060 ti
Some miner will buy the 580 in a heartbeat, no matter the price you set
Could just put a $25 universal block on the 580. Build a loop because you want to tbh.

Hey all! Just to confirm… tower cooler with a 120mm fan attached to the fins… do I want the fan airflow pushing against the fins in the direction of my exhaust fans? (Fan on right side of cooler overtop and near the ram. Or do I want the fan on the left side of the fins pulling the heat for the fins and then toward the exhaust fans? I’m thinking right side.
Pull air from the front
Fan over the memory, blowing through the fins towards the rear exhaust
Push to the back
Got it Fal’Cie. RAWR, unfortunately I have Dell prebuilt so no front intake. I do have 1 fan on side for in take. Could drill a bunch of holes in the front bezel. lol.
DO IT
why bother with small holes, make one big one:
Size:120mm Specification: Cutting Diameter: 120mm/3.7” Shank Diameter: 10mm/0.4” Length: 95mm/3.7” Depth: 38mm/1.5” Material: M42 Bi-Metal Color: Red Weight: 634g Features: 1. Sharp teeth, low vibration, fast balance when opening, making operation more stable. 2. Universal handle type, effectivel...
Can I leave my fans at 100% rpm? Or will that drastically shorten their lifespans?
I mean you can, they might wear out a little faster, and they'll be a bit noisy but the CIA won't stop you
Noise doesn't bother me
But when I keep them at 30% my GPU runs at 82C and at 100% at 70C
Just use a fan curve
At least that runs cooler than my rx 580
It goes up to 89 c when I'm playing minecraft(with shaders)
Use more aggressive curve?
Fan curve
Ya I had to think for a sec
That’s what someone used in a YouTube video that helped me. Hey it works! Lol
Whats the best cooler for the 12900k, budget aside? Sorry for the bother
excluding custom loops the arctic liquid freezer ii 420mm
ty
Yo does anyone know any good 140mm fans for a radiator that are quiet
I was thinking about silent wings
140mm pwm
But don't know if I should go for the high speed or just the pwm
Arctic P14
I don't understand not going for PWM unless the motherboard specifically only has 3 pin headers, or the fan has to be powered by the power supply
Sometimes non pwm 5 pack cheaper by good bit
I suppose there are exceptions
The fans included in my Lancool ii ragb are DC fans.. feals like a betrayal.
I will beat it.. with a stick, untill its dead
What I don't get is some motherboards have no trouble controlling DC fans while some can't do it at all
Might be related to speedfan and its obsolescence
Tbf most stock fans are
@shrewd juniper this man is trying to personally attack my fans to death can u ban for rule 1 break
You should ban rawr for giving molex fans to his parents. that woman carried you for 9 months and this is how you treat her?
:(
fr tho parents pc is full ssd
and better cpu
mine is 1 ssd and 4 salvage hdds
I gave my wife molex fans
They were all I had for her retro pc build
It's running Vista with igpu on some dual core celeron

I know, I'm evil. But she wanted it for the nostalgia, playing old cd games like cluefinders and toy story, so the igpu is overkill for that lol.
as long as the fans were transparent and had 4 blue LEDs, youre good
amazing
She doesn't mind though. It only needs 2 fans after all. Probably not even that.
If she cared I'd put some p12's in
laptop?
pc

CPU cooler might not be installed correctly
my pc is pre build
Do you live in a warm climate or something? What cooler does it have?
and from what i saw in reviews most of not all of them said the cpu cooler is garbage
its cheap 15$ cpu cooler
@magic wave i can still play in 100c or it will damage my cpu
sorry for the mention

The CPU has a certified operational maximum temperature, probably something around 100, and it will probably run for years like that but I wouldn't run it like that
11700k hot
It's time for a new cooler, new paste
any recommendation
What budget
100$
Pa120 is 50$
Uh
If you want aio go liquid freezer ii
But check case clearance and what it supports
Lf2 performs better
oki thanks a lot !
What cpu cooler? What case
Nvm looks like sorted
Tbh 11700 non k should be fine with gammaxx 400 especially in decent case but with pa120 at the price it is
Gammaxx 400 wouldn't do it imo, it is a hot chip, pa120 would be a good option though
Is 11700 really that hotter than 10700?
Cuz the non k is still a "65w" chip
Yes this be 11700k but still, 200w stock isn't exactly cool
Yeah but i thought the non I wasn't nearly as high
Anyway pa120 the way to go anyway
Wouldn't have suggested gammaxx 400 in particular just mentioning it would have worked
Dunno, seems too hot for gammaxx 400 personally
hey sorry again i cant get my hands on lf2 cuz the shipping price is expensive
50$ for shipping
i only can get those
I have a i9-11900k cpu with a Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L RGB Close-Loop CPU. Should I change to a different cpu cooler or keep this one. I’m moving all my parts into a new case
What country are you in ?
KSA
Sorry where?
Saudi arabia
Ahh
^^
I mean if you're temps are okay for you then keep it
Lemme have a look at saudi Arabia now
tyt buddy
Yeah it keeps the temps cool
@hard brook how much you looking to spend on the cpu cooler?
100$
In local currency?
400 SAR
Okay
around 400 to 500 sar
Yeah deepcool castle is probably the way to go from what i can see, granted i dont know any local sites but they are decent aios
which one from the picture
I mean if you can afford it and it fits in your case the 360 one is the best
i dont think 3 fans can fit my case
what case do you have?
the front?
Close glass
Case: DEEPCOOL MATREXX 50 ADD-RGB 4F Mid-Tower Case 4x120mm ADD-RGB Fans, Full-size Tempered Glass Side And Front Panel
you will be bale to fit a 3 fan cooler in the front. But that case may also be why your CPU is so hot
yah i agree with you but trust me the cpu is really bad
you can get a 360 mm cooler and mount the radiator in front
i just wish i can remove the front glass
You can fit a 360mm in that, because of the glass 240 could be better but I'd still say go 360mm
Honestly it's hard to say because of the glass front
I'd still guess 360 would squeeze out a win
You're welcome
Does Ryzen 5 5600g needs air cooler or aio?
If the place don't have aircon just fan only
Philippines hahaha
Should I go buy aio?
Or just proceed with cooler master 212 led turbo argb
You already have the hyper 212?
No gonna buy
No point buying an aio
Do you have any other options?
Any gammaxx options or something for cheaper?
Oof
Should I just go with hyper 212 then?
I mean I'd check your other options
Still getting a list. Also is the cl18 gskill trident 3600mhz 16x2 good?
3200c16 is better, amd or intel cpu
So I should just go with 3200 16x2 CL16?
What cpu do you have or are getting
3600c16 is better if it's a 12th gen or an amd cpu
