thermal paste isnt gonna help a trash cooler do good
Already have it on my setup
just save up and get a better cooler
just buy a new cooler
and also dont buy 5800x now, poor value get 5700x
hyper 212 sucks\
evga clc280 is 62$ 5700x + 30$ more than you would have sent
did say 5700x smh

I've been told here a Hyper212 will be sufficient for a low oc/stock 5700x before I get an AiO
fr tho on that cooler ur wasting money on premium thermaal paste
Well, when I get the cooler I want, I should have enough in the tube to apply for the new cooler, no?
yes
So I can squeeze a little bit more of performance out of the cooler, and have paste that's premium left over to use when I install the Arctic Liquid Freezer II
no you cant squeeze more perf outta a h212 with expensive paste
ur basically beating a dead horse there
Well, I'll be beating that dead horse until I get a new one
Reasonably sure I've got a lot of overhead from my case alone
yeah but its not gonna achieve a thing
your case cant carry a cooler
just u wasting money on paste
The paste on the CPU is there for at least 2-ish years so replacement is overdue methinks
Especially since I don't know the paste
doesnt mean you have to buy spensive stuff
thats just a waste on h212
nah
Its not gonna be sitting exposed to the air
also the paste you buy isnt exactly straight from the factory, delivered while still hot either
Well, I'd be more inclined to trust it.
it will be perfectly fine
I have used ID cooling paste with my cooler, used it, 2 years later used on dads pc for repaste
Statistically you shouldnt... also, paste is finr for many many years as long as its kept sealed
You trust a h212 on a 5700x enough to upgrade to a 5700x but not the perfectly certified fine paste that comes with a great cooler?
Nothing is, I know
since without it, the cooler is useless
thats like saying you will buy a new backplate and cooler mounting kit because the one included is manufacturer added freebies
Fair, still though
Also as far as install goes for the AiO, I need to mount a plate to the mobo from the back and then mount the pump to that
Right?
Paste as with all other components has completely changed since the 2000s
just follow the instructions that come with the cooler
arctic has nice first party yt guides as well
But in general, right? Just to know what I need to prep for
search on yt
Since I found a reasonable deal on the nonargb version of the liquid freezer ii
Kinda wanted RGB but

Thanks to both of you though!
would it be overkill if I get something like an Intel i9 or Ryzen 9 for both gaming and animation work?
What program for animation? It's definitely overkill for gaming
i5/R5 are really good price/performance for gamers
well, I am trying out Blender, but I would like to expand to programs like Unreal Engine or CryEngine
You'd only need more cores for those if you're doing really large renders
Or extremely detailed renders like an 8k open world
so would i7/R7 be more suitable? I mean I am not gonna be extremely detailed with everything.
I just do not want the CPU to be underpowered
Yeah that should do nicely, a 12700k would be more than enough for 99% of tasks
what kind of gpu would you recommend?
For cpu, could glance at the 12700(F) if at least $30ish less than the K models. Res? expectations? 1440p, 3060 ti, 3070, 3080, 6700 XT, 6800 XT.
What's the slight differences between the F and K models?
It seems the F model consumes less power, but the frequency seems to be also lower.
f is not k
there's kf
and f just means no igpu
kf means it's a k sku without igpu
as for the 12400f and 12600k
the differences are large
core count and performance isn't the same right out of the bat
12400f has 6c/12t
while 12600k/12600kf uses a combination of performance and efficiency cores
six performance cores, combined with four efficiency cores
thus it has 10 cores
I liked Arctics MX-4 that was included as a freebie with my LFII so much that I bought an 8g tube. My thermals are amazing with that stuff.
noctua's thermal paste is fine/good/idk
Well
Congratulations you bought paste that performs worse than the one thats included with the cooler
What
Mastergel pro v2 performs worse than mx4
And mx4 is what comes with the liquid freezer
Ffs
Cancel the order and just dont buy paste
Trust me
Itll be fine
This isnt the 2000s anymore
Too late
Nah, too late
if its all one order, cancel all and reorder the cooler and cpu
Also; I'll use the paste for other things anyways, need to repaste the thermistor and cartridge on my printer
Time to find out if the paste will hold up to 220ยฐC
how much is mx4 or mx5 in ur country
Around the same price
im not sure it will
It's already shipped
u can still cancel
Old screenshot
you can cancel right up to its been delivered
after that u can return
amazon policy is nais
The Nvidia Tegra is an outdated architecture and Nintendo shouldn't have partnered with NVidia to make the switch
if u do this, the paste is never gonna come off btw
If I were to buy some more ballistix from different store. What're the chances of me getting Rev E inside of a 32gb kit?
Depends on the speed and timings of the kit but you can usually pick it out. 3600 c16 kits are often rev.e from crucial.
Yeah?
Bc I'm buying them online and there's only 1 seller left and its from amazon lol
Amazon is tricky, make sure the part in the listing matches the one in the pictures.
And the description too
yeah
So many sellers copy/paste listings and don't change details, so you get an item totally different that you expected
Im just scared of looking up the ram and only finding 1 DIMM lol
is it called dimms?
the dies on the ram itself
those are mem modules
thats the entire stick of ram
oh lol
the black square things are memory modules
Very little unless it's 2nd or something, rev b is what you want in a 2x16gb kit anyway 16gb rev e is bleh
Rev e for 8gb sticks rev b for 16gb basically same for all ballistix bar the earlier stuff
Nooo
2nd?
2nd hand*
oh
well I have rev e's inside of my kits dont i?
one would think that consistency would be better esp when the ram is already tuned
2x8gb? That's rev e
Rev b is different than b die?
K so.. is running it at 1.5v bad?
K. I'm a bit confused then.. is my ram as good as bdie or rev e?
2x16
Most likely rev b then
Right? I remember Pato specifically suggesting the 2x16 ballistix to me because it was rev e and good for ocing lol
Depends if you have dual rank or not
I believe it is?
B die is better but rev e/b is farrr better value
^
Or getting higher frequencies
Rev b 16gb is just as good as rev e 8gb, if i said that i made a mistake
Rev e 16gb is bleh afaik
Oh ok.
So if I pull my ram out to check when I get home.. I'm gonna have to go back in and change my oc settings?
yeah you cant get a lower tWR based on my tests
I hastily tuned it down to 16 and launched a game and instantly saw a screen full of static
Gods are allowed to make mistakes.
Why would you?
I wanna know exactly what is in my system. Thats why I'm trippin on it rn
Lower than what?
lower than 18 but thats based on what other people said
Pato managed to get his down to 14 iirc
Which one is twr? I'm at work atm so I can't look to see.
So far I've gotten to c16, but I had thought pato said maaaaaaybe could get to c14, but I know you've been all over that ram like a... well let's leave it at that. So I figured you'd be a good person that might be able to tell if it's possible.
@frosty depot if you go to the hwbot discord and take a pic of the sticker on the ram someone can probably tell you exact die
No sticker
Maybe, might have to do c15
I'll give it a shot.
You peeled it?
They all have a sticker
Hm
Not obvious iirc black sticker
Omg i took a pic of the ram when I got it with the sticker lol
So yeah it has sticker lol
Now I wonder why I did that... but good thing I did lol
Stonks
Yeaj crazy blurry pic.
@vast meadow
interesting
Ahh rip
(((;๊ฟ_๊ฟ;)))
It's doing the job. And now I don't feel so bad about wanting to upgrade to white rgb ram
So... suggestions @vast meadow ? Give ya a chance to redeem yourself? Hehe
Still very good for the price
White ballistix :)
Reason: Bad word usage
Reason: Too many infractions
rgb?
bleh, there doesn't seem to be a 2x16gb 3200 white with rgb.. There are 2x8gb 3200 white with rgb though.. but I want 32gb..
oh and there is a 2x32gb 3200 white with rgb, but $417... and I don't think I will ever need that much ram
What kind of performance hit could I expect using OCed 4x8gb vs 2x16gb?
@vast meadow
2x16gb is usually easier to get better
But there is no RGB version of 2x16 in white.
at least not available that I can see.
Is there any other 2x16 white rgb worth getting?
Prolly not ballistix was disconnected
yeah. it seems that was a popular one for people as it's the only one that isn't in stock in any of the colors/frequency combos
Is there any bdie?
14-15-15-35 ye
Prolly, it's b die
ok, I'm thinking I will get it
Eh bit more expensive cuz rgb/white
still pardon my ignorance, but in what kind of applications a cl14 is noticeably better/faster than a cl16?
ocs better, lower latency so it has a faster response time i think?
cause the cl18 to 16 gap is not much of an issue, but cl16 to 14... like holy nuts (money related)
dont quote me on that
c18 to c16 is, mainly because of the subtimings most of the time
yeah i bet for oc purposes, outside of that should be hardly noticeable i guess
3600c16 ocs a good bit better than c18
depends on the application/platform
for you? no difference
cant argue against that
im the typical joe who buys a cl16 over a cl18 for 30 usd more because.... why not?
should be better right? ๐
Generally much different dies too. Idk if crucial even really has much 3600c18 crap, unlike CoarseHair and many others.
- @hard leaf yea would be $40ish more if I was thinking of when ballistix 3200 was under $110, but that price is long gone.
yeah its sad to see corsiar making bling rgb memory stick but horrible perfomance vs other brands
and way overpriced
i had on my cart ripjaws sticks, 3600c16, for like 140 or so.... the c18 version is like 110... so 30 maybe 40 max
no, us
oh 32gb?
32gb?
ye
ah
had the itch to go for the c14 kit but it was a 100 more, so no thx im good at 16
c14 is only worth it if youre doing ocing for benching
or if you have too much money
damn capitalism, buying things you dont need but somehow you want
yeah thought the same, stick to the c16 kit, i wont be able to notice the difference anyway
however im grateful for the education, didnt knew the uses for a c14 until now... oc
I guess I'm in the minority about buying it to OC it, but no benchmark ๐
I mainly just want the ram Pato linked for the looks.
but I want the option to OC and benchmark if I choose to do so in the future.
which is why I bought the K model of my cpu
but also.. 5.2ghz daily sounded really appealing to me
luckily I'll have worked 110 hours by saturday so next friday (payday) will be a nice fatty chunk.
This week???
That doesn't sound legal
Murica momen
this pay period. I haven't had an actual day off in almost 3 months..
well like 4 days off. but they weren't in a row
Ohhhhhh
I deadass thought you worked 16 hours shifts the whole week
I have. about a month and a half ago
we are severely understaffed
How do you think I've been buying all this stuff? ๐
@hard leaf ram is like college, you get 2/3, grades, social life, sleep accept it's timings, frequency and price
Lower times better
Higher frequency better
Lower price obviously better
You want to balance all 3
Murica moment
wait until my monitor comes in this monday and I will take a vid/pic of my whole setup.
I've been waiting..
Idk could have been a diamond smuggler in your spare time x)
I'll show you what it looked like 2 months ago compared to now
still looks a bit basic compared to others.. but you'll notice a difference,.
Old school
Random question for a travel build xD what's the smallest mobo I can get that is still decent enough to have wireless built-in, also be able to use ryzen integrated graphics? I'm trying to go for small and cheap, wanna build it into a suitcase I use for work ๐
I personally see the Mini-ITX, but don't know if able to go smaller than that.
I know I could go with a laptop, but this sounds like it be fun.
Well there's a mini DTX X570 board but it's $400 lol
If budget is the #1 concern then https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zBn8TW/asrock-a520m-itxac-mini-itx-am4-motherboard-a520m-itxac
Well if I can get my job to pay for it I'll keep that in mind ๐
O also that top one is getting a little long.
also thank you haha sorry for rudeness and not thanking you
Question for you guys. I'm trying to order new memory for my new laptop. I'm a bit hung up on the part numbers and if I'm getting single rank or dual rank for it. A few videos I've seen said single rank is better for the 6800m but it seems like I've ordered 2 kits of dual rank, one on accident because I misread the PN and one because the seller sent me the wrong stuff.
This kit is supposed to be single rank I believe but I'm not sure. Could someone please help me figure this out? But the seller on Newegg sent me an 2 single packaged 16 gig sticks with a different part number. KF432S20IB/16 instead of KF432S20IB1/16. SO I'm not happy about recieving and unmatched kit and I'm pretty sure I got they sent the wrong stuff anyway. Dual vs Single Rank.

This is the 1st kit that I mistakenly ordered and I believe is single rank.

I'm not sure why the GPU would care about the ram considering the 6800m gets itself 12gb of gddr6 and not shared mem? For the CPU, the CPU shouldn't care that much, and most 2x16gb kits will be dual rank kits, so either kit should work just fine.
as a side note, according to kingston,
KF432S20IB/16 is single rank
KF432S20IB1/16 is dual rank
Ranks improve bandwidth and latency at the cost of more stress for the CPU IMC. 99% of the time it'll improve perf, which is why its ideal to stick with having multiple ranks per channel (and ideally dual rank dimms for interweaving tech).

@hollow thorn can you please break down for me how you determined which was dual rank or single rank so I can learn how to read the spec sheet? Thanks!
they're talking about subtimings lol, nothing to do with single rank or dual rank
from previous testing on desktop zen 3 dual rank should actually help with performance
If it says 1Rx16, that's single rank, if it says 2Rx8, that's dual rank
@hollow thorn I'll try and find the other video that was going over dual vs single rank. Also where did you find anything with 1Rx16 or 2Rx8?
I just seriously doubt it because it doesn't make sense to me, but here
okay that's what I thought when I looked it up earlier but there were conflicting user reviews on Amazon and Newegg. Thanks

That's DDR5 so it's apples and oranges
ok better question them... i know the first number is very important, but what about the last one? is very high on that ddr5 kit... again, forgive my ignorance, just trying to see if a deal with those is worth for gaming on 1440
It's better than most ddr4 XMP's out there going by hardware unboxed, but price/performance it's going to be way worse for value

yeah im fully aware of the price gap between 4 and 5, just trying to secure an upgrade path on a ddr5 plattaform instead of just killing any upgradeability on ddr4
Are you building a new system or looking to upgrade a current system?
If you must pick DDR5 @hard leaf , kingston fury 6000's are supposed to be hynix chips which clock better than the rest (albeit it's not the best hynix money can buy)
They also have good heatsinks, I can personally attest for this
building new, or lets say, preparing it for summer raptor lake or am5
So you can expect somewhere in the range of 6600-7000MT/s depending on the board
hmmm
mmmm am5
yeah am5 is still terra incognita
I'd go AM5 period if you're looking for upgrade path since AMD is going to be the same platform for longer than intel.
yeah im very inclined to those, thats why im tailoring pieces in advance
I would actually wait for AM5 to see if it behaves differently with DDR5
You'll also see price drops by then
yep, without demand DDR5 will stay higher priced
The kingston fury 6000's are really a good buy tho, very cheap for hynix
(in ddr5 terms I mean)
Inb4 anyone says ddr5 expensive
yeah, ddr4 and raptor will be end of life for those 2
so ill try to get the best bang for my buck when am5 hits
thx for the tips and the video, ill check that now ๐
This is unconfirmed. In interviews AMD employees don't even want to guess at the life span of AM5.
So, if my fan controller is powered through SATA.. does that mean I can have as many fans as I want on my argb header?
Or is the argb still pulling current? I noticed that the argb cord that goes from my controller to the header only has 1 wire so I feel like the only thing it's doing is asking the mobo what color to put the leds.
Rgb headers still have a limit unless you get sata hub
My controller is powered through sata?
.
Yes but I'm saying you'd want pwm and rgb hubs
I guess I'm not sure what a hub is then.
Controller/hub same diff
Ok it is a pwm/rgb hub
I have both argb headers and pwm fan headers on the hub.
I guess what I'm asking is.. can I connect one hub to the other.. then connect that chain to 1 argb header.. since both hubs are sata powered.
Ah then you should be able to use all the headers you like
Umm probably
Ok. I just don't want to overload my argb header. But like I said there is only 1 wire going from the argb header to the hub.. so I feel like there is no real power being drawn.
You could have some weird issues but in theory it should work
Only one rgb header on your board?
Same with the pwm cord.. it only has 1 wire which i think is just the pwm signal.
1 wire in the cord that goes from header to hub.
I'm not home or id take a pic and show.
But like the the cord from the fan to the connecter has 3 wires.. i assume positive/negative/argb signal.
The led cord from the hub to the mobo only has 1 wire which i assume is just argb signal.
That make sense @vast meadow ?
Hmmmmm
Gonna need pics
So I could probably put as many fans as I want on that right?
On one header*
As long as it goes through a hub with sata power
Theoretically
But i feel you might have signal fall off
Shouldn't happen if you only had 1 daisy chained tho?
Ah, I didn't think about that, but I also didn't think I could put 100 on there either.
100 fans brrr
I was planning on having maybe 10-12 on one header possibly..
You sure your mobo doesn't have more rgb headers lol?
It has 3 jrainbow and 1 rgb.
I have plans for 2 of the jrainbow IF I can put 10-12 on the 1 header
So 3 argb then? Maybe just get argb fans
:)
Jrainbow is argb i think?
What plans
Confusion
Something simple.
I want to link my gpu bracket led with the temp of my gpu... and the rear exhaust fan with the temp of my cpu.
Can you not do that with hub?
I can't set individual fans colors with the hub.
Usually the single wires on those hub plugs are just data afaik
So whatever hub my bracket is set to.. all other fans would change color as well and thats not what I want.
I want just the bracket to change color. Which is why I need it on its own header.
Oh my b
Pepehans
Huh?
I think the most limiting part of this is you want 3 different rgb profiles basically
Pepehans is pepehands's german cousin
Mobos usually with only 2 headers
I have 3 argb headers and 1 rgb header
Mobo has 3 headers he just wants a crap load of fans
Well you can use an msi board and program individual headers in icue with it
One 1 header* :D
Get non a rgb gpu bracket instead?
So you could program 3 different things (gpu, cpu, rest bla)
Ic*e there's children in this server ffs
Lol
As in just rgb
I literally just got bracket in mail
Uno reverse it
So jrainbow one would be gpu bracket, jrainbow 2 cpu temp fan, jrainbow 3 all the other fans if daisy chaining works
One 2 3
I'm weird

Correct
If mobo blow up i blame you ok?

I was gonna try it anyways because I saw the only 1 wire from header to hub so I figured it was just signal, but I was seeing if there was anyone in here that has done this before.
Actually now that I'm recounting.. it'll be 14 fans on the header
With the rear exhaust being fan # 15 in my build lol
Sata powered for 1 and hub only has 5 led slots.
Sure, you get my pato garuntee
Warning pato garuntee is not legally binding, terms & conditions may apply, side effects may include blown up motherboard, loss of money, nuclear warfare [1], change in your like towards pato, dizziness from any possible explosion and debt from hospital visits causes by said explosions
1[pixel rom for samsung a52 by @vernal cosmos ]
I technically have 4 hubs. I have another 3 fans i can't fit in my case.
A i r f l o w
But yes my current build has 4 hubs
How
3 antec and 1 corsair that came with case.
15 fans in a 5000d

1 rear, 3 top, 3 side, 3 front that's uhh 10 sir
Hm. Ok I do have 13.
Another 3 if you push pull
Wonder why I thought 15.
Lol
Mans got so much airflow lost count
But yeah 13
Did you like my garuntee?
Unlucky number of fans
Lmao
Reduce to 7 fans for more luck
Did you see my diagram for you?
13 is a good #
Ignore the nuclear warfare part, what nuclear warfare part
Idk what you're talking about
I did i did
The pic I drew for you lol
Am aware was talking to myself
Apparently not. Why comment on own name.
Did you see the pic I drew? Lol
I thought I was being clever. I guess whatever lol
Waow lol
The fans are what made the back side of my pc look horrible..
Guess I can go back in and redo that part when I get off work.
Who cares that's what the back panel is for
I care knowing what a jumbled mess the fan wires are.
Thatll leave like 6 open spaces lol
If there's a spot for it.. I'm sticking it in there.
I ALMOST put 2 fans on the psu shroud, but I know that would have literally no effect whatsoever.
Heck, maybe I'll still do it just because.
i have 9 intakes and 1 exhaust
bruh
Make it 11 intakes and -1 exhaust
The 5000D experience with 3 front intake, 3 side intake, and 3 top intake with one rear exhaust I get positive pressure for sure
yikes
Top intake is working against gravity, bet you'll get better temps with it exhausting
Close, thermodynamics. Heat rises.
It's a small effect but can make a few degrees difference in cases like this.
Ah ye that's the right word
I highly doubt it'd be more then 0.75c difference unless fans are spinning so slow they end up stalling just by looking at them weirdly.
Jokes on you guys, thermodynamics would only come into affect if there were no fans
Or if fan airflow is as weak as thermodynamics airflow.
Reason: Bad word usage
Might be a dumb question, but I've installed my new CPU and AiO in and all is snazzy but
After running time spy without any tweaking, I get this result
But after a slight automatic profiled oc via the Ryzen app, and with opened BAR, I get a lower score
But I swear the pc overall feels zippier in the second result
Is this just good old statistics drift and reasonable floatation of point results?
Resizeable bar on its own can help or hurt some tasks +/- 3%
Ah
I read as much
Though I'd assume it'd help with something like a benchmark
But I'd also assume that oc would inscreas CPU scores too
What kind of overclock did you do? Manual OC is often worse than PBO
Not manual, it's just curves in the Ryzen master app
Just automatically assigned stuff done after some profiling
Just the curve optimizer? That's another thing that can hurt
The pc definetely feels faster and performs better than stock though
It might just be good old copium and placebo, especially since I didn't get a chance to stress proper
Ok, but do boost override +150 and see how you do then
Eh?
That lets the boost frequency go up to 150 MHz higher
Oh no, it's already higher on base limit, not sure about boost
I'm away from my pc ATM so I'm unable to give concrete numbers
Should be able to do that without voltage adjusting too unless you have a bad sample
But I'm close to 150+ base clock
Base clock doesn't matter, it'll never be at base
Ok how about this, check your core frequency in hwinfo and see how much above the stock max boost you are. You can run a light task like the calculator to prod it into boosting.
I should have my bruh hit me with screenies from the Ryzen app and at least task manager
Task manager is terrible for CPU stats
Ok so it does say 4.75 max boost and your stock is 4.6 so you're at +100 probably since AMD likes to put their chips above spec.
Ye
I should have thermal wiggle room since I barely broke 60ยฐc
In the latest time spy I tried with the Ryzen app tweaks
You might even be able to do +200, I'm not sure how the binning is on those 5700X
Eh, that's for when I read up more on ut
All I know for sure is the chip is essentially a clocked down 5800X, but not why they clocked it there
That's one possibility, but Ryzen yields have been good lately. No way to know but to test it.
Fair
Though as I said, it confuses me how timespy dropper after oc and bar
Even though in theory the increase in throughput should help
Fair once again I suppose
But especially for the benchmark task
Where you're cramming data through
For example.. I had my gpu clock at 160, but my score dropped 10 points. I put clock at 165 scored dropped a further 10. I dropped clock back down to 155 and scored jumped back up by 20.
Because it can't handle that much.
That's another possible scenario, the additional heat load causes it to drop boost bins
Timespy is a modern bench though, right?
I'm literally benching right now. Been for the last 2 hours now.
Reason: Bad word usage
It's been $5 on sale pretty frequently
I'll have to keep an eye out for this
On steam?
Usually. Put it on your wishlist and it'll let you know.
Is this the "Time Spy Upgrade" on steam?
I don't see anything that says extreme
Yeah the extreme version is included with that
Ok. I can use it with the 3d mark demo? Or do I need to spend $ on getting the full version?
It would be in the full version, the upgrade is basically buying the full thing
Ooh I just saw this too, new one coming soon so expect sales https://benchmarks.ul.com/news/get-ready-for-3dmark-speed-way
Find out more at benchmarks.ul.com
upgrade is $10 though vs $30 for the paid 3d mark
Oh right, then the upgrade is for people that only have the older 3dmark paid edition and don't have the newer benches
The full version goes on sale for $5 often
Yep. Already advised the steam wishlist too.
I assume you've seen the new Speed Way bench @mild jackal ? Looking forward to having sub-60 fps on a 3090?
yeah, lol.
How much of a difference would going from 32gb 3200 cl16 to 32gb 3600 cl14 make. (Paired with 5800x and 6750xt)
Not enough to justify the price increase
Maybe 10% best case because of increased infinity fabric speed
Make sure you get rgb ram because rgb = 100% increase in performance.

Was actually thinking about going non rgb this time. So much cheaper
I won't being paying anything out of pocket so doesn't matter either way lol
Rgb, especially with ram, adds a lot of cost
I get gift cards for selling certain things from work so I usually just claim Amazon cards.
Was just curious how much I should get my hopes up performance wise lol
Not worth it tbh
You could probably oc to 3600cl18 if you don't mind putting in some work tho
Anyone know with a budget of $200 for a cpu, is Ryzen or intel better?
are you making a whole new build
Intel is generally better for new builds price/performance but if you have AM4 already no point changing platforms
They never listen to anything you say btw just keep asking repeat questions
oof
It's still great to know that a great budget PC for under $1k USD can be done with Intel 12th gen
Yeah 12100 and 12400 are great for budget PCs
If you get the whole PC yeah under 1k easy, but if you can salvage parts from old builds even lower
Mm
I did snag one of y'all's list that someone made with a 12400F and it had a 6600 and I have a friend looking to build his first PC and that list worked
How about 12400f 6700xt for 970 ๐
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tvZmxs
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, Radeon RX 6700 XT, Cougar MX330-G Air ATX Mid Tower
Def worth to cut out the heatsink and get the 1tb mp33 imo
Great price on that psu too
That would basically bring it to 1k plus the tower cooler will help with vrm temps over stock
Imo may as well just do this https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4494093
Better psu and possibly faster gpu
Oh yeah forgot that combo
Ye back in stock yeeeee
No Iโm not
I have a 5600g but l just ended up getting a graphics card
Well if you wanted to go Intel you'd need to change motherboards, so you can instead put the motherboard cost into a higher tier CPU and get the 5700X
Then you can sell the 5600g
I thought of getting a different motherboard anyway no matter if l stayed with amd so would switching to intel just be better since l mainly just use a pc for gaming? Where can l sell the 5600g?
Pick your favorite used market. Facebook, ebay, craigslist, r/hardwareswap...
Ok
Intel is better for new builds right now for price/performance, and you're basically doing a new build if you're swapping mobos
The gpu l managed to get was a 3050 if that helps when picking out the cpu
12400 is about equal to a 5600X, so in effect it's the performance of a single generational jump over your 5600g
12500 isn't worth it unless you want the higher power iGPU
So l should end up getting the 12400 eventually?
That's my recommendation yes, unless you wanted to do $245 for the 12600KF
It might not be that price when l decide to buy it though
Or it could be lower by the same logic
Yeah l guess so
Is there like a normal price point on release of new gen intel i9s?
Like, how much should I expect to save up to for the 13900k
9900k and 10900k were $500, 11900k was $550, and 12900k was $600. So it's been creeping up. Maybe save $650 to be safe.
Thank you. I have plenty of time to save up that much then.
Plus, with gpu prices being down, I should have a healthy chunk left after my taxes finally show up.
Nice
Is this the place to ask a question about CPUs
yep yep
Rad
Need some help settling a debate. If someone wanted to buy a PC right now just for gaming then would they be better served buying a pc with an intel 12700k or a Ryzen 5800X3D.
Would the 12700k's ability to use DDR5 RAM make it a better option in a few years from now over the 3D V-cache of the 5800X3D
with the LGA 1700 mobo you'd be able to upgrade to 13th gen later.
and yes ddr5 will probably be the bees knees
within the next couple years.
a lot of us are looking to upgrade to ddr5 instead of upgrading to better ddr4
plus.. I love my 12th gen soooo I may be bias.
Ddr5 isn't worth it atm
I would get a 12700f and msi b660 mag bazooka with ddr4 ram
hmmm asrock z690 extreme on sale... seems... juicy
newegg tempting me with these emails D:
Eww assrock
hate the model, not the brand my friend
12700(f) + ddr4 +b660 is the best option, 12700k(f) + z690 + ddr4 if you wanna oc
asrock intel board in general have been trash the last few generations
well, that adds a little more context
and too little reviews to that one, seems ok but very few usb ports at the back ๐
The main issue with asrock on Intel right now is they have been adding in underperforming and undercooled VRM, and to compensate they put power limits on all the chips. If you recall, 12th gen isn't supposed to have power limits like that, there's no more Tau boost period.
My assrock b550 doesn't have vrm sensors
The io is also kinda sad
Sure, some of their more expensive models are good. But cheap ones are trash
nice to have you around guys for these tips
I'd place most of them under the DS3H
Well steel legend b550 is pretty cheap
I'm still talking Intel
But yeah
Ahh
Taichi is nice
That's about it on intel
Z690 steel legend maybe can't remember
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813162029?Item=N82E16813162029 check this one, 13 power stages 60 amps... seems... ok but yeah, too few reviews
and the io yup kinda sad
nice try newegg
mails with offers like these tempt me to buy rn... must be stronger than that
Looks like it's a no frills board but their 12900k results did have a 5% lower score than expected in cinebench so some throttling was probably happening
Might be ok for a 12700k
But z690 a pro better board and cheaper :o
Yeah totally go for Pro Z690-A over that
220 the wifi version, not bad
yeah solid choice and no need for an offer, updating my cart, thx for the assist guys ๐
I still think it's cool gigabyte is offering this nice cheap good motherboard only flaw is it can blue screen in pcie 4.0 but no issues with 3.0 also nice because usually itx premium
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/XRPQzy/gigabyte-z690i-aorus-ultra-lite-ddr4-rev-10-mini-itx-lga1700-motherboard-z690i-aorus-ultra-lite-ddr4-rev-10
my cart so far pato
need to swap the 12th for a 13th only....
just a couple months more
use phone instead of webcam smh
dont want to kill my battery so fast, samsung a30, 3 years old i think
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/dqbTwP/gskill-ripjaws-v-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-4000-cl18-memory-f4-4000c18d-32gvk
Equally good kit of ram for cheaper
pc has plenty usb ports
Would also go diff mobo
And if waiting for 13th gen prices/availablity/competing products will change
yeah ofc, this isnt its final fom
its updating until raptor lake
while the sweraing jar keep growing
maybe in some months ill have enough to upgrade to the i9
maybe
I9s are rarely worth it
really? this one is the one you guys usually recommend to everyone D:
Havenโt seen someone recommend a tomahawk in a while
It's a good motherboard just bad value
B660m mortar wifi would be a cheaper option
sadly i dont want an m version
i have a 5000x ready for the build and an m version could be a little.... little
Why not just go for a b660 a pro?
Ofc you'll have b760 boards to choose from by that time but this is cheaper
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nGRYcf/msi-pro-z690-p-ddr4-atx-lga1700-motherboard-pro-z690-p-ddr4
Or that
But 20$ more for a z board and better vmrs ehhhh
Better VRMs only worth it if you plan to overclock
And if you do 13700k then you'll probably want a Z790 board and DDR5
Next gen boards will (hopefully) solve the issues where you can't get above ~6800 or so without a top end board with 2 slots
As it is currently with DDR5 most boards can't even hit the highest jedec spec of 7200
yeah probably ill step up to ddr5+690+13700k
rn that build is around 900, ill plan to spend almost 1.2-1.3 when raptor lake hits
well is the roof of the budget
Doesn't that have a higher first word and probs would need G2?
You can do 4000 gear 1 on 12th gen if you bump SA/IO to 1.35v
Ah ok
Using phone as webcam makes phone get hot.
You're tellin people to ruin their battery in their phone lol
it's a good option if you only occasionally need a webcam, no sense in getting a 50-100usd webcam if you rarely use it
I always see sales on good Webcam for $10. Staples regularly puts theirs on clearance for example
ye but those are complete crap, it's like the camera quality in phones from 10 years ago
im just saying it's an option for those that don't need another thing taking up space that is still somewhat decent
if your only in a video call once a month no need for more clutter
I mean, I got a 70 cam for 10 and its pretty good qlty
What i mean is.. 10 for a cam that you may or may not use often is better than putting unnecessary wear and tear on a phone battery.
The phone battery ends up costing more in the long run.
Like I get using your phone in a pinch, but if you know you are gonna be in a video call at least once a month, it's a solid investment imo. I personally only use mine once a month if that, but the fact that it was $10 and really doesn't take up any space considering it sits on top a monitor is good to me.
Only get made fun of for having 144p potato looking footage once a month?
lol
Is using 4 sticks of ram really that bad? I've watched benchmarks of 2 vs 4 and usually there is either no difference or only like 1-2 fps difference. Just generally curious as I'm looking to upgrade to a higher speed.
4sticks is a bit more (ram) performance w/ certain setups, & depends on the ram itself. Partly why people dislike 4dimms is tougher to OC. Looks better w/ all slots full though.
4 sticks doesn't add much performance at all
cause it doesn't automatically equal to quad channel
the motherboard and cpu has to have support
4 sticks does garuntee dual rank tho
Yep, That's mainly what I was referring to
Higher speed is easier on 2 sticks
Appreciate the feedback. I'll have to watch those videos lol. To see what would best suit me.
Unless you're going 64/128gb 2 sticks is the best bet
Going from 4x8 3200mhz cl 16-20-20-38 to 32gb 3600mhz cl14-15-15-35
I know its not necessary but I'm building a family member a pc and I'm just gonna give them mine and get something better.
I wouldn't advise buying that as an xmp kit that would be like 250$ just grab the 130$ kit of 4000mhz c18 from g skill or grab some b die(3200c14 usually cheapest)/ballistix (3000cl15 or higher) and that's cheaper and oc up yourself tbh
I would look at current prices and go from there, the 3200c14 oloy kit has often been close to 200 before, but maybe there are other options
This is cheap if you want 64GB https://www.ebay.com/itm/374067365689
Am going for the 3070, but not sure if I should save the money and go for the i5 12400f or go for the i5 12600kf. I don't overclock, and I won't do some crazy high performance cpu stuff...
12400 is more than enough for a 3070
You could pair it with a 3090 at 1440p and still be fine
aight
12600kf gives you extra cores which you technically won't notice in gaming but in the real world when your discord, chrome etc can be passed onto those cores it's worth it if you can justify the price imo
Was definitely more worth it when 12600K was $230.
Latest leaks put 13900K at 8P + 16E (32T) with 36MB L3
L2 also doubled apparently
The extra L2/L3 sure will help game performance. 10 Pcores would be neat, but I guess they're not really needed. The lowest model that's 2P + 4E ir similar will be interesting, especially if 1 can be ocd. 12100 at 5ghz is a beast.
What's weird to me is we have 700 series boards potentially having D4, yet the 13900K is supposedly D5
700 series boards supposed to be d5 only
but 13th gen cpus will work on 600 series mobos with ddr4
from what weve heard
Leaks are not agreeing with each other
Yeah here:
https://videocardz.com/newz/asrocks-next-gen-z790-h770-motherboard-lineup-includes-ddr4-variants
ASRock Z790 and H770 motherboards We received information on upcoming ASRock Z790 and H770 motherboard series. It is not a surprise that 13th Gen Core CPUs known as โRaptor Lakeโ will support DDR4 memory technology. After all, these series are based on the same architecture as Alder Lake, and theyโre using the same desktop LGA1700 [โฆ]
Maybe the 700 boards will only support D4 with 12th gen?
Yeah I'm wondering if it's certain SKU's for DDR4 for 13th gen
To me that makes no sense, why tool up for a new board lol
600 is functional, if they want to legacy D4 then a new lineup doesn't seem economical
Say that 13900K, 13700K were D5 only, but 13600K was D4 and D5?
Well when leaks disagree all we can do is disregard both for now
It's the SoC itself that doesn't support D4 supposedly
Then yeah none of it will make sense yet lol
as far as i know 700 series will have ddr4 variants as well
confirmed
will be on z790? thats another question
Probably. (Good) ddr 4 (for gaming) is far from a bottleneck. They'll be smart to think how we could buy just cpu+mobo then transfer over old ram if needed/wanted.
that's a redeemable feature on intel, am5 only on ddr5 give me the creeps
wallets be ready
Indeed. Ddr5 (prices) sure would give me pause, & not like AM5 mobos/cpus are gonna instantly be too well priced.
DDR5 is getting better priced at least. There's 5200 c38 2x16gb kits for under $200, and lots of them bundled with Z690 boards.
hopefully it will be more cheaper when am5 hits
That was the idea behind pushing back the launch at least
7000 series are looking very attractive but the ddr5 requirement is kind a letdown
and hopefully those mobos will handle 6000mt without issues
as far as i read, 6000+ mt are unstable on z690 mobos
The AIBs have to have learned about the topology issues and fixed it by now
Only with 4 sticks, you can still do 6200-6400 with 2 sticks
Many boards if you want to use 4 sticks you're stuck at 4400
some according to reviewers are very unstable over 6000 with 2 stick, once they tune down to 5400 they are able to post no problem
normally i take those with a grain of salt, but maybe those issues are probably because its the first gen of ddr5 and mobos
Most people don't know how to properly overclock DDR5 yet too
yeah thats a valid point as well
People are starting to stabilise 4 sticks above 6000 these days
Definitely a lot harder though
On what boards though
Because on daisy chain boards that's near impossible, even der8auer and buildzoid can't do that
Buildzoid has actually in fact done it 3 days ago

Maximus formula
And this is a particular board, it's not the first time I saw someone seem to do well with a formula z690
That's a T-topology board, not a daisy chain
Ok but it's still becoming possible to do
Right but it's still not possible on the majority of boards, especially ones under $300
Sure, I can agree with that. The formula seems to be a bit special at managing this from what I've seen
That one in particular is $800
Perhaps show us a mobo that's not T-top w/ 4 dimms
I wasn't replying to Fal'cie in the first place tho
It was more to Ravell
Sorry if I'm offending, I don't mean it
Oh I know, mainly about the speed perhaps. Stupidly expensive mobo though, lol. Funny, to me 6000 isn't even impressive. Although, I like when each gen completely doubles, ddr400 ddr2 800 , 1600, 3200, and so on (ignore MT /=/ MHz).
(and when it eventually has the same or better 1st word latency. Nice round 6000c30 or 6400c32 looks pretty good.
Oh yeah. In every way it's a nonsense idea to the normal person, even an enthusiast really
Use a MSI pro D4 and push that hard with good 4x16 ic's makes wayyyy more sense in the sense of pushing 64gb
Like a 4x16 M16FE1 kit for example
uhh, 4 dual rank dimms.
--- A 2x32 DR kit would be nice though indeed.
I know I know
I'm not good english spoke today, my bad

2x32 is more capable for sure, but more expensive for D4
2x32 on D5 on that note is not too far behind 2x16
oh about the unstability on 6000? yeah probably i was a lil outdated on the videos, glad to see they already broke that, sad to see it on a 800 mobo tho D:
my mobo target range is between 250-350 tops for raptor/am5... stability on a super high end mobo wont help on my budget
most videos i saw were on carbon/master/pro boards
I have a pro b660m-a msi, i plugged my SHP9500 to the mobo and it just doesnt sound loud, id literally 100% sound so i can hear normally
unlike my z170 pro, 100% would prolly kill me
is it that the mobo's sound card bad or is there a setting im missing?
Possibly there was a better amp in your ild motherboard but sounds like your missing audio drivers or something, did you reinstall windows when upgrading?
i migrated my os using some software
i installed every driver for my new mobo from their site as well๐ฟ
Yeah don't do that if you're changing motherboards it's a nightmare, you'll want to do a fresh install of Windows
oh damn, is the one that doesnt remove my files enough?
Eh I'd say no, something to do with motherboard drivers conflicting it's a real pain but worth it you can end up with really weird issues that don't make sense if you don't
^
I see, thanks ๐
Does anyone know if you can use Kingston KTH PL424S/16G memory in a gaming PC? and if it would be any good? 2 sticks btw so 32G in total
you can use it, sure. Whats more important is the price, speed and timings
price does not matter, got it from a friend who didnt use it. and it says 16GB 1Rx4 PC4-2400T-RC1-11 any idea?
yeah idk man xD he was just dumping some stuff to me because I wanna build a pc
im not sure how server ram would play with a gaming pc
alr man do you know about hyperx fury hx424c15fbk2/16 by any chance?
or if its free from your friend, is a welcome addition
Alr man thanks I might put it in my system. Thanks all
That's not the stuff at all
Oh wait nvrmind I was looking at the above stuff
Yeah above stuff is server ecc so yeah
Lower stuff would work just kinda slow in today's standards
Hoping someone can help with this:
I just received a motherboard that I know worked (I trust the previous owner), but now testing it in person is resulting in 00 with all my CPUs. I've swapped out each main component (PSU, ram, etc.) that could be bad, tried different bios's, checked CPU pins, still getting the same result. I can't see any visibly bad SMDs on the board and Ive ruled out mounting pressure as an issue as well. The CPU stays cold when the board is powered on, and I cant measure any voltage going to the CPU at all, but there is some going through some of the pins? It's like the EPS cables are not even connected. Any ideas?
00 โ communication problem, probably because the CPU is not being powered
did you read the whole thing lol
Was it shipped to you or given in person?
shipped. it could be shipping damage but thats not really helpful. if i know what the damage is i could likely fix it
it was packaged pretty well and the box wasnt beat up at all
Chech the EPS pins physically
If it's in the computer case take it out and try to run it. It can sit on the cardboard box it came in safely.
its in a bench setup
It could, with changing the memory and CPU from what was configured previously
Maybe it had some sort of overclock
that was like the first thing i tried, it didnt do anything lol
Oof why did you bother with a godlike
what an interesting thing to say to someone dealing with a dead motherboard
"How do you know the Motherboard is dead"?
out of warranty. the board is from 2016
well im sure hoping it isnt. doesnt change the reason i said that
oh lol
@grizzled bloom @burnt spear i found that my 64gb kit of ram is conflicting with my chipset. i need to bump up to b550 for it to work. i dont think its the imc of my r5 3600x
@obtuse mountain love the name
@obtuse mountain quick reading - sounds like you had the same problem i had.
good question, x570 vs b550 whats better?
Generally x570, but depends on model. There's various B550 mobos I'd definitely pick over certain x570 stuff.
ive got a ryzen 5 5300xt and RX 6500xt. ive got my 16gb 3200 cl16 kit in currently. nvme ssd gen 4 capable but locked on gen 3. x570 will bump the gen 4 for sure but is it gonna be more beneficial with the smart access memory features?
i know it will let me run my 64gb 3200 cl16 kit im just trying to justify the $100-150 difference
Only the chipset slot is 3.0 on b450 and similar
Why did you get 64GB of ram for that cpu/gpu setup?
bf2042 sucks all 16 down and crashes. ksp heavy modded launch times and multitasking like streaming
feel like running cpu-z? 5300XT is a gpu also, lol. (I'm guessing Ryzen 3600). btw, 4x16 or 2x32? I was gonna say try at least 32GB w/ your current setup just to see how it does. 64GB and/or a new mobo definitely just feels like a lot to add for possibly little actual gain.
sorry i meant 5300x, and 6500xt. 4x16gb and i went down to 1x16 and still had issues.
jesus christ i cant type, 3600x. i need more sleep
Reason: Bad word usage
also 64gb is kinda pointless with that build
-_- nah checked qvl after it updated and b450 was removed. b550 and up
?
i have a few uses for that much ram
like what?
Daz 3D, Blender, Unity, BF 2042, multimon setup at 4k, animated everything with sounds, 15+ add-on devices
i use ram religiously
multimon?
running all of that at the same time?
2 monitors
oh
and not everything at once but most of it
youd be fine with 32gb it sounds like
anyways, about the issue
it sounds like either mobo or cpu
are you running the ram at xmp or jedec?
thats what i was saying before you mentioned it might be the imc so i was looking at CPUs but i re-checked the QVL on the kit and the b450s were removed. so im thinking its chipset not imc. ive tried xmp and jedec. i can run the old kit 2x8gb at xmp 3200
most likely the ram then, if the old kit was fine
i couldnt run the 64 at 1866 or 2133
i would test in the other PC cus its a different brand b450 but its not functional rn
Did you try 1 stick alone?
yup
Reason: Bad word usage
Reason: Too many infractions
would having more page files lower my background ram usage at all?
