their cheap b550 is not bad, phantom gaming 4 ATX (mATX sucky) is a bit meh with the good hardware but small VRM heatsink, Pro4 is good hardware but decent heatsink, anything cheaper is sucky and anything pricier is usually good. I probs wouldnt use a PG4 with a 3950x/5950x, but at that point you have the money for a better board

A friend of mine is interested in an upgrade to Ryzen 5000 but will also need a new MOBO and I've been trying to help him but we keep on seeing warnings about a possible need to update the BIOS on a B550 or X570 board. Some places seem to say it *should* be fine and some say it's gonna be an issue. How can I help him make sure the MOBO he'll eventually get will be compatible with Ryzen 5000?

I finally got a response from Gigabyte Support about my Bluetooth fiasco. Two weeks later.

Try shut system down, disconnect the AC power cord on system back panel for a minute, reconnect it back, boot system back into system to check if Wifi + Bluetooth devices are detected.

At least that would've been an effective advice, since that's been proven to work.

assuming you're talking about the rog strix b550-f, it says on the newegg page that it has bios flashback. you will have to perform a bios update with a usb stick, it will not require an already supported cpu.

I would suggest download MSI Afterburner and turning on the In-Game overlay

It will give you system statistics that you can watch while you game and stream to see how much RAM, CPU, etc you're using

If you're getting close to 16 GB then yes, go ahead and upgrade

ya'll, i have a very budget build that i've been upgrading when ihave the money... my next venture is either the cpu or gpu.... my current cpu is an i5 9700... i'm thinking about upgrading to an i7 or potentially an i9 (if that comes in 1150, i haven't checked) ... if i go with the GPU i'll be upgrading to the 2k series, or if i can get a good deal, a 2k TI series... any thoughts or suggestions?

would prioritize upgrading the gpu over the cpu if you can find a decent deal

any meaningful cpu upgrade would get bottlenecked really hard by the 1060 outside of some very fringe cases

that's what i was leaning towards, since there's only a FEW steps up from my cpu, but my GPU there's like 50+ steps up... the only reason i was debating it was because of all the scalpers making it so hard... but if the ones on market place right now are still there when i decide to pull the trigger i should be fine
