Does coil whine get louder when more heat is being transferred?
I actually alr had this pulled up on pcp, so here you go https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WwD3H2
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12600KF, Cougar MX330-G Air ATX Mid Tower
If you decided you want a 12600kf anyways
Can switch it to a 12400f and se 214xt for the heatsink
Case can go for either the one in there or the p360a/4000d airflow if you'd like
And sure I can take a look at the list you made
Dream Build - Intel Core i5-12600KF, GeForce RTX 3070 LHR, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
I might switch it to 12400f based on what you said
So you want a white build?
yeah
Kk, two seconds
That 3070 you had selected is actually not in stock, just pcp being dumb
oof
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
If you really want the ram to be white, can use this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fkBG3C/team-t-force-delta-rgb-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-tf4d432g3200hc16fdc01
Gpus gonna be the hard part
Going white PSU aswell?
would the 32gb of ram really help that much with performance
It's good to have
With the build list I made there's still plenty of budget for the gpu
Founder edition 3080, 6 months old, what is a good asking price for it? Have a 3090 that Iโm switching too.
You taking USD?
"what do you mean, you canadians?"
-- (better know what movie/scene I'm referencing. The real saying is "you people" btw.
Lol
Hahaha. Did you just assume my nationality. Haha
Buddy I work with offered me $850 Canadian so Iโm going with it. Lol
Nah I knew you were "one of those" lol
Hahaha
Yeah that's quite a bit more than most people would do, nice. Wish I had buddies or coworkers that actually are into tech stuff, lol. For my area or not, just been easier to get hooked into good ol physical mostly-outside jobs.
I just made another build. If you can look at it here is the link https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcboy15151/saved/6V8XRB
My Custom Build - Intel Core i5-12400F, GeForce RTX 3070 LHR, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
Btw that gpus not actually in stock at that price and that ram kit ๐
my budget has decreased to 1000 usd. I made this build and was wondering if anyone check it out. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xVsJtn
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
You're wanting a white ish theme?
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
lol, $1650 3090 ti and still a terrible buy https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3090-ti-gv-n309tgaming-oc-24gd/p/N82E16814932511?
yeah 3090ti was too late to the party to make an impact
you can get the 6900xt while you wait for 40
could also get a 6600 while you wait for 40
6900xt or 3090 to 40 series wont really be worth it
or 3080/up really
i stealthy posted my 60ti on my local fb marketplace at 700
most 60tis here are at still 800+
if somehow i manage to sell it, ill hold on my gt650 till end of the year
Steel legend cheaper pog
It's 160
Reason: Bad word usage
Hey I have a person that is coming to me with a AMD A8-6500 APU and I am getting it is either an i3 or i5 equivalent I highly doubt this computer can handle streaming with several applications in the background and a game playing... thoughts?
thats pretty old... like 10 years old
if you want to change/upgrade your pc your best bet is to ask the guys here to tailor you a pc with your current/available budget to spend
those were my 2 cent ๐
Oh missed that
I see some good temperatures and quiet fans for my incoming 2080
I hope the person that bought this "cheap" 3080 noticed there was a 500โฌ shipping
W H A T ? ๐
Your temps will probs be a good bit higher than theirs
The person who sold me the card said he changed thermal paste & pads, spending up to 50โฌ (don't think so) so they ma be pretty similar, of course they'll be higher because of this fricking hot summer
For example these are my temps in winter and summer:
1070 OC+UV
Winter: 69C. Summer: 76C
3600x UV+OC
(May): 66-67C. Summer (June): 71C
For my CPU it just got 4C more in one month
Also I have bad mounting pressure but I don't really want to open the pc again just for 4 screws, I'll tighten the cooler when the 2080 arrives
On their gpu
A
Probably lol
Not even probably
The hottest weather I experienced was 47c
That's like 165f or smthn
You can cook eggs 0-0
169f according to google
I was in 130 degree weather once over in kuwait. was awful
We had 120f last summer.
Record high for our area. Lasted almost 3 weeks. So many fires around our area because it got so dry.
And it'll probably be a repeat this year. Thankfully I'm deep within the suburbs so little fire risk.
with ada coming out, i wouldnt feel too safe from fire risk
lol right, 1kW becoming new high end minimum real fast
yup
I'm definitely skipping this gen
They always go through a cycle like this, more power, more power, peak, more efficiency, more efficiency, bottom, and repeat
mhmm
at some point the coolers just wont be enough and theyll actually have to make their stuff more efficient
Yep, poor motherboards and cases having to support triple and quadruple slot cards next gen
I'm feeling like AMD will "win" next gen if they're roughly the same performance at lower power draw
Which it what it's looking like, but the multi chip thing will be interesting
We actually hit 90f today for the first time this year. It has been a very cool summer so far. Like low 80s. We even had snow about a month ago.
We've been over 100 for about a week
We are having a really weird summer.
We should have already been at 100s a couple weeks ago.
Instead, lots of rain and cool days.
Do you live in bc Canada.....
No
Ah just needed to check bc we had a heatwave last year
how can i tell if my GPU is like dying or faulty
tell us the issues its having and well telly ou what the root of the issue is
hmm well I don't know much about computers but still learn when ever I play some games like war thunder their is texture issues going on like the landscape goes invisible and just now discord just had some odd rainbow looking black pixels on the voice channel when I see who is talking or has their camera on

DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
id do that
i had black pixels on my monitor before a while back but it stopped when i move my mouse
stuff is going on like this
dont bother my gpu is dying officially
is it overclocked?
curious
Did you run DDU as suggested?
my old gpu was doing the same thing but when i removed the oc it was fine
did you do ddu and reinstall drivers
or that
its worst now the water is green and white blocks appear when i move
on every game
did you use ddu
i would first ddu

@quiet shuttle read this
RX Radeon 550/550 series is it good enough for streaming with applications in the background?
No
Are you only buying a new gpu?
Or are you making a new build
No I am looking at someones application to become a VTuber with me and I am checking their hardware
That is why you may sometimes see repetitive questions
If they can, this would be a good upgrade https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-6600-mech-2x-8g/p/N82E16814137690
Did you check what cpu and ram they have?
I'd use NVENC for streaming
Eh, amd has a video encoder
A not so great one.
And considering its $260 for that after a mir, it's worth the worse encoder
Compared to a $310 3050 or $380 3060
Even while streaming it'd still beat the 3050
I am not sure exactly which RAM they have, but they did get it 1 - 3 years ago.
Can you have them check the ram and cpu?
Current Specs:
R7 1700
16 GB of RAM
Also I am not sure what is up with their computer, but something is eating their RAM?
Depending on them, it might not be worth upgrading the gpu without changing one or both of those
1700 is... not great. Depending on the mobo they might be able to run a 3600
Run a debloat script, I think there's one pinned in #windows-ios
Also a virus scan with windows defender
Understandable
Oh also, if they can run a 3600 make sure they don't buy it new
They're terribly priced new
Is the cat named ram?
Is this accurate? I noticed the 6900xt is above the 3090?
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
It depends on resolution. At 1080p, the 6900 XT is favored. At 4k, the 3090. 1440p is a dead heat.
I notice they don't have the 3090 ti listed at all, it beats the 6950 XT.
Oh wait they have it on the chart but not the list. And they have it below the 6950. Nope I wouldn't call it accurate.
Bruh how is a 3080 12gb over a Ti?
Its on the list?
But I see. I was curious. I thought tomshardware was reputable, but it seemed off so I asked
I see it now, formatted weird on mobile
They're reputable enough but 8 games is hardly going to be an adequate sample size
Ah ok
So it's just a quick n dirty bench list
Not taking into account all the gpus they benched because I'm sure that took a while.
Yeah you can't expect them to bench 30+ games on over 100 GPUs
I notice that most of the 8 games they chose are AMD sponsored titles
Ha funny. Alright. I won't take their results to seriously then
We have a chart that demonmit made pinned that's based on actual benchmarks
Probably model to model variance
Yeah, I have it saved. Just curious though.. he tested all those?
lol
Inb4 they used Zotac 3080Ti @ lowest PL and Strix 3080 12GB @ highest PL.
No it's based on publicly available benchmarks afaik, but you can always ask him
hey guys, this is my pc right now https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cheesi_/saved/#view=dtkzP6, and i was just about to get this gpu to upgrade https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B17SQBS?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1, but wanted some more opinions before i do to make sure its all good
im not the best with tech so any input would be appreciated
(i also got this gpu recommended to me by someone from here a different time)
Btw you're going to want a new ram stick, single channel ram(1 stick) horribly kneecaps your cpu, also would recommend a new power supply
But yeah i would get that gpu
i know, i made that mistake when buying the parts at first. just got paid enough to be able to get the gpu so im going with that. also, is "kneecap" the same as "bottleneck"? thanks for your help!
Kneecap in this case more refers to it holding the CPU back from its potential
Kinda the same as a bottleneck?
Ye basically, would highly recommend grabbing a new power supply and another 16gb stick of ram when you get the chance tho
ah alright, makes sense
yep im planning on it. thank you
DDR4 is cheap, 32GB kits have been spotted under $100
i was just about to ask that, thanks haha
This would be a lot better than your current stick too https://pcpartpicker.com/product/B8QcCJ/silicon-power-gaming-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-sp032gxlzu320bdaj7
50 dollars below MSRP
Below msrp on the "should have been $1000 anyway" GPU
For real
3080 12gb >>>>>
I really overpaid for mine
Stupidest company card on earth
Even more expensive
The same model anyways
Overall cheaper
Uh no, it actually makes sense, halfway between 3080 and 3080 ti in perf, has the extra 2gb vram, is like ~50$ more than 3080 which is acceptable
Right
Wow I'm not even looking..smh
@solemn panther
Crazy
Good/bad time to buy them now
My bad guys.... didn't research enough lol
Still good to see the prices dropping
We're at that awkward point in the release cycle where the new gen is coming in a few months and the older one is finally getting affordable
hello everyone! I had a quick question. I am debating about either getting an MSI Gaming x Trio 3080ti or a MSI Gaming x Trio 3090ti for my computer build. When I was messing with pcpartpicker, i got this capability warning with the 3090ti:
The video card PCIe 16-pin power connector adapter is being supplied by three 6+2-pin power connectors. Please ensure that the three 6+2-pin power connectors are not daisy-chained and do not share the same power cable.
Can someone clarify this a bit more for me? I will also include the build list I have for my build so far if it will help answer my question. Thank you :3
Build List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cbFV4s
What's the pc being used for?
I will preface by saying a 3090 Ti in any capacity is not worth the money it sells for but I'm curious why 128GB of ram
Would also consider swapping the thermaltake ring fans for more arctic P12's instead. Even the argb ones are good and then you have a consistent system theme
3080 12gb all the way
I do a lot of 3d modeling for school and some musical projects
Oh, then if you need the vram 3090
But if what you do isn't vram intensive, 3080 12gb
3090 non-ti
Okay then. May I ask why a non ti?
@foggy atlas consider these, will be similar performance but nearly half the price of 128gb
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wXNgXL/oloy-warhawk-rgb-128-gb-4-x-32-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-nd4u3232161dcwqx
3090 ti is a phat waste
While it physically hurts me https://pcpartpicker.com/product/yPpmP6/msi-geforce-rtx-3090-24-gb-gaming-x-trio-video-card-rtx-3090-gaming-x-trio-24g
You can sometimes catch a $1200 3090 on evga b stock
They charge like another 25-30% for basically improved clock speed and vram speed, which for workstation practices amounts to very little gain
understandable. Thank you very much ^^
But that 128gb kit tho
Definitely think about a cheaper set, you could save that money for something else
Those royals are charging like 30% for aesthetics
tbh i have a thing about crystal looking things xD
There's even a cheaper and similar perf royal kit for 569 lol
would you be okay with moving the conversation to DMs?
Sure
Not sure if you thought the msi was only 10GB or not, lol.
No i didn't, i just don't have the rebate thing ticked in pcpp
It shows at 850
Yea I wouldn't waste my time for the $30 rebate that is specifically for msi and who knows when it arrives, lol.
Yeah me either. I won't ever do mir rebates again.. 4 months before I got my gigabyte and still haven't gotten antec and they were sent off same time.
And when calling about status' they didn't have any info.. so its like why even have a support for the rebate lol
@livid idol So here are some samples of my GPU each with different thermal pads
this is the original
this is with 1.5mm pads on the VRAM
and this is 1.0mm pads
how is using thinner pads giving me a worse spread?

If you're not using the exact thickness as the og pads you're going to get worse thermals on both gpu and mem.
^
I'm considering jumping ship from Nvidia and buying the AMD equivalent to my 3060Ti (FE). Is now a good time to do that, given that the market crashed?
Nvidia's closed source drivers are a nightmare, everything is super laggy, and half the time some of my monitors don't turn on.
So I'm hoping to fix that by going AMD, since I think it's compatible with multiple monitors.
Sure, i assume you're on linux then? Rx 6700xt or 6750xt if you're lucky would be the alterative although 3060 ti does sell for a bit more so you might be able to get 6700xt + cash or 6750xt or just sell then buy
Hear me out.... what if.. he buys and then sells?
after i change my nvidia gpu to an amd one, what will i have to do after installation?
Ddu and then install the amd drivers, here's a guide
!ddu
DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
ooh alright thank you
Anyone know where I can find the market price of my Gigabyte RTX 2080 OC? I cant find it anywhere
I would look at recent eBay sales, using the advanced search.
You recommend I sell my 3060Ti FE now and try to get a 6750xt in a bit?
Hey gentlepeople, I was wondering if $850 for a 3080 ti for a lightly gamed on is a good price
Or $700 for a 3080 would be better?
I would go for 3080 instead
Now is as good a time as any
Knowing that prices are going down, I'm considering getting rid of the Nvidia one first, and then waiting a bit to buy AMD cheaper.
I can fall back to my laptop for a few days, since it has an okay GPU as well.
I doubt they going down that much ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'd say you'd be waiting months til the next major price drop when rx 7000/rtx 4000 comes out
I'm seeing some selling for MSRP (Europe)
Yeah but I'm saying they're probably not going to drop more for a while
ah fair
Playing forza horizon 5, should I be concerned?
i think my vram is filling up, but doesnt it then use system ram or no
!ddu
DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
are u sure its not just forza trying to preserve vram
Got an oc on (vram)? Then I'd lower that also.
appears to be a common problem with the game, new drivers may fix it but then lhr becomes a thing
Think GPUs will drop a bit more during the Fantastech sale?
Perhaps, but not really for AMD because they already get closer to msrp than Nvidia has been.
If the VRAM buffer fills up it tries to scrub currently unused assets out of the memory, but it's up to the game to tell it which ones to scrub. System memory isn't used once the VRAM fills, except to account for the overhead of the additional work needed to maintain stability in a low memory situation.
Hey guys. So as soon as I tried to update my drivers for the amd adrenaline software for my 6900xt, my screen just went black, and its been black for 5 minutes. Should I wait it out or try to do something about it? I'm quite worried. This hasn't really happened at all before
Hold the power button to turn it off, follow this guide to clean the drivers, and try installing again
!ddu
DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
I actually just tried restarting it and the issue just vanished. And somehow the drivers updated while my screen was black lol
But I've heard that restarting didn't work for some so that's why I was concerned
But ty for the help lol
And I might keep that guide for reference
Go right ahead, that's a very useful tool
๐
oh also another question about amd gpus
isnt something about recording with them worse compared to nvidia?
like a worse encoder or something
and will i have difficulty recording with an amd?
Kinda but that really only applies to OBS if you're streaming
oh ok, i dont really stream so thats fine
i use obs to record games from time to time
Recording doesn't really matter much
The encoder is just slightly slower when streaming but recording is a lot easier
Just discovered an Easter egg on my 2080 box, there is written (braille alphabet) "Gigabyte VGA"
Lol
Recommended driver - 22.2.2
This guy - lets link to a driver thats so ancient the entire series of drivers was dropped like 4 years ago
Instead of 22.2.2

so i should put in my new graphics card at step 7?
oh ok cool
click clean and shut down instead of clean and restart on step 5\
Ye it's similar at the end of the day except when it comes to streaming but it's easier to do as well
Is a gt 1030 worth more than 30 dollars?
Probably between $40-50
Not bad
just installed my 3060ti, FE is absolutely glorious
This look right? Just wanna make sure so I don't accidentally fry it
looks about right
where did you plug the display cable into?
Gpu
Looks like it might need to be pushed in a little more to me
yeah
Thx for the help
O now it's stuck on this screen
probably just means no os installed
After a few it randomly put me into bios and curser is frozen
Is it worth buying the 3070 or do I wait till next gen
Just built my pc and everythingโs new but I didnโt buy a new gpu because Iโd rather spend everything on everything else and get it later
I have a gtx 1070
Sort of out of date but not entirely
If you can handle your current card for a bit longer then I'd wait.
What psu do you have?
EVGA Supernova 650 GT, 80 Plus Gold 650W
I believe that is a B-tier psu and lower wattage at that. I would probably upgrade your psu if you do end up grabbing a 7000/40 series.
Id recommend an A-tier at least 850w, but honestly I'd go for 1000w just because. That's just me though. I'm sure someone else may have input on what would be best.
650 a bit low for the next series of gpu?
Or will people get away with using something so low?
I mean I feel like that's really low.
oh yeah wattage may be low but quality is good
Right.
The wattage is low?
Ok
rumor the 4090 is speculated to use 600w.
So do I need more, also I was planning on getting the 4070 if that changes anything
Id imagine IF the 4090 is 600w that the 4070 would be around 400ish. So that'd leave little room left with everything else. Would want a little more just in case something spikes.
Id go with 850w to be on the safer side of things.
I'm gonna get a new monitor before i get a new GPU and Desk.
I disagree with what reo said
400w on the 4070 is an insane estimate
The high power usage are going to be the high end ones, 4080 and up. 4070 will be fine on a good 750w without issue
Also atx 3.0 is a thing. No point in getting a new psu yet
To me, it doesn't seem to far off if a 4090 is going to be pulling 200ish more than a 3090, that a 4070 would be pulling 100-150 more. Like I said earlier it's only speculation, but I feel it's better to be "fine". I'd rather be for sure knowing my psu can handle it.
Again, atx 3.0 though. No point in getting a new psu yet
Idk i could see that being not the tdp but the power limit for some 4070s
do i open the exe? or open it after, at step 3?
You launch it in safe mode
no i mean before the safe mode, i downloaded ddu
You can do the setup prior but you run the program itself in safe mode
All good ๐
Current rumors are as follows:
4090 - 500W max due to the 12+4 adapter only supporting 450W
4080 - 400W
4070 - 300W (Nvidia claims it beats the 3090 so using about the same power makes sense)
As bacca said, buying a new psu for "future proofing" is pointless... new gpus are rumored to have the new atx 3.0 standard... if youll wait for next gen, then wait for the psu as well... no point of getting a powerful psu today for.... nothing
if you want to hold on your 1070 thats fine, and when the time to come decide for a gpu, just go the combo as well: gpu+psu
Not even rumored, it's confirmed ATX 3.0 and we'll see the first truly 3.0 compliant PSUs sometime this month maybe, next month at the latest.
Confirmed on the lower end cards as well?
i knew the power hungry 80 and 90s will have it, but not sure about 70 and 60s
man that deal on the ko 3060ti
hard to pass D:
What gpu's do yall think would be a good jump from a 6600?
Just wondering whenever I feel like upgrading
It's in an awkward spot
next gen, or 3070/6750xt and up
but if it were me id def do next gen
Probably
I hope we get more energy efficient cards like the 6600
I just don't know what upgrades i could do atm
It runs perfectly fine
Iโve had 0 problems
Itโs honestly not a bad psu at all
It's a fine psu, but it most likely will not support any next generation gpu
Oh it will
Atx3.0 won't like make your current psu not work, theyll have adapters
They couldn't force a new standard that is barely coming out in everyone getting a new gen card, it'd be horrible for their sales
I guess I was going off what I knew with given information before. I didn't know about the limit of the cable at the point of writing this morning, but even then I wasn't to far off? I guess my comment stands to get an 850w and not to "future proof", I never said anything about hurrying up and running to the store to buy one RIGHT NOW.
But it makes sense to me to just buy something a bit over what you THINK you'll NEED because then there is no room for error.
you dont need an 850 on a 3070 rn, a 750 will do just fine
those are cards that run on 250w, even when they go2x it will be 500w + 150-200 for the rest of the system... 750 will do fine, 850+ should be a must on 3080 and up
hell, even a 300w gpu could work just fine on 750psu
You don't even need a 600 on a 3070
I guess.. My 12600k hits 250w oced/undervolted so I don't feel it's to far off that a 850 would be to much for a 4070 (not 3070 because that's not what he said he'd get). If a 300w (rumored) card spikes 2x, that'd be 850w right there.. and that's not taking into account the power draw from anything else in the system. (although I don't really know how much extra that would be). So TO ME seems logical.
you are adding more variables to a simple problem
you are ocing now
not everyone oc
true, but what if he wanted to? If he gets a lower psu then he has less potential to?
That's all I'm saying. It seems the majority of people OC so that's what I'm going with
if you account ocing, yes you will need a bigger psu, but the average joe just go stock into the build, if he oc he should probably mention that
and, no, not everyone oc
its a minority in fact
not a lot of people think about mentioning that and I guess I could have asked first.
never said everyone
that's crazy because I feel like I hear most people talking about ocing.
especially if they are willing to spend a high $ amount on a system,
I get where you are all coming from, however to not take into account that someone might want to OC just because they didn't mention it seems like a failsight to me. Even if they didn't want to or think about it at the time of getting the system.. what if one day they decide they want to, especially in the future when their cpu or whatever is starting to get dated and they want to push just a little bit more performance from their hardware (we see this all the time). They would then have to spend more money to update their PSU when they could save that instead to put towards their next new system if they chose to get one.
This is what seems the most logical to me.
These PSU's whether they are 750/850/1kw all go on sale all the time so getting an 850 that's on sale ends up being the same price as the 750 or whatever seems most logical.
I get you guys are more tech savvy than I am, but (I'm not saying this to put anyone down), sometimes ya'll get set into a certain state of mind of that's just the way it has to be and everyone should adhere to it or they are wrong. PSU's last for years. So even "future proofing" certain items in your PC isn't a bad thing. Especially when it means you don't have to spend that money in the future to upgrade. When people build a high end PC they are essentially future proofing the whole PC as they will be using it for years.. Telling someone to buy what you need now and upgrade later is just more money spent.
That last sentence is within reason of course.
(side note) I'm not mad or triggered. These are just my thoughts.
I'm also wondering what wattage atx 3.0 psus will be
Ofc there will be the "lower" wattage ones, but I'm both assuming there will be higher wattage ones than current gen, and 1200w+ will become not $300
Also wondering if the lower wattage psus like 450w will still be a thing
I got really far with that guess...rip

when the 40 series comes out im planning to get either a 6900xt or a 6950xt since i dont think the 4070 would be ideal for overclocking, is there much of a difference between the two when overclocked where its worth it to get the 6950xt over the 6900xt?
6950 XT is basically just better memory, the core is the same
There's provisions in the spec for all wattage ranges, they're only required to have the 12+4 connector when the total is over like 450W or something
6950 is actually a decent jump in perf
Nothing you can't get with overclocking
Although some 6900 XTs might have trouble even getting the stock memory clock of the 6950
The 6950's also have upgraded VRM's iirc
Sometimes
But yeah a good XTXH I could see getting close to a good 6950XT
also if you factor in SAM/Rebar, you gotta keep in mind 6900xt will be benefit more than 6950xt from it
not a huge thing but still worth considering
does the 6950xt also have xtxh models?
They're all made from the XTXH models
That's really all the 6950 XT is, an overclocked XTXH 6900 XT
what about the reference model?
Yes
Meaning they'd be minimum 450w, or?
No they can be under 450W, that's just the minimum where the 12+4 connector is required
If they want to be 3.0 compliant on lower power models they'll still have to meet the specs for load spikes and such
Wow. the 6600 actually seems like its sufficient to my needs
Maybe I will only be spending $270 on a graphics card to get the job done until 40 series
Isn't the 40 series coming in late September?
About that
Yep just waiting for when that happens and hope that the older generations prices go down a good bit
$1840 bux worth for a 3090 Strix OC new?
Think about this, that's $740 more than a bstock evga FTW3 model often costs, so no.
nah
That is why "we" don't use $ or USD, lol (unless you're in USA). I'll say if you don't need the 24GB vram for work, definitely not worth it. 3090 (ti) are the halo cards and really like the old Titan cards.
this is why you dont convert
prices are different
list where ur from and how much in local currency
How can I raise the power limit on my 1650 super (aside from msi afterburner because the slider is maxed at 110%)? HWinfo says my performance is reduced because of power limitations. Under a heavy load I currently pull 80w through the 6pin and only 27w through the pcie and I think I'm able to pull up to 75 through pcie right?
That would require a vbios mod I believe
or a shunt mod
either of those are dangerous
did you really want to push your card even more?
Not planning on OCing but Iโd still like to have a powerful machine considering I just built it and I want it to last (with upgrades when needed) Whatโs your suggestion Iโm sort of confused since Iโm getting multiple responses
I sit at 57-59c under heavy load so I figured I could prob push a bit more.
Whats the budget? Wasn't here earlier
And if you don't care about cpu ocing, then a b660 is perfectly fine. Specifically the b660 mag mortar is great
CPU - Intel Core i7-12700KF
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-U12A
Motherboard - ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus
Ram - Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz DDR4
Case - DeepCool CG560 Mid-Tower ATX Case
PSU - EVGA Supernova 650 GT, 80 Plus Gold 650W
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (soon to be upgraded)
SSD - Crucial P5 1TB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD
These are my specs Iโve upgraded everything put the gpu
Ohh right
And Iโm planning on getting next gen
I remember now, just didn't remember your name
At this point it seems best to wait until they are released along with the new specced psus
Atx 3.0 850 would be more than enough then
Ok
Will they be more expensive then
Tbh, I have no idea ๐
It's right around the corner and it's probably best to upgrade anyways.
Best to wait till atx 3.0 psus are out if you plan to get a next gen gpu
I just built the pc
So itโs kind of frustrating
Like 2 weeks ago
Yeah I get that, you might be able to run a 4060 on your current psu, maybe 4060 ti depending
With an adapter ofc
Iโm just going to get the one worth 400-500$
And if I need a better psu for it Iโll ask
Yeah thats 4060/ti area
I get it totally. I built my pc and then with in a month or 2 I was upgrading.. My solution to that problem? Started building another PC ๐
Oh ok
4080/70 I'm expecting somewhere around September
Nothing can be guaranteed of course, these are just guesstimates
Ok
Forg is really knowledgable so I tend to listen and let him take over with the info. Most times ๐
Lmao, I appreciate that but you and many others have corrected me plenty of times
Sucks that the 6600xt is $400 again
I hear that one is weak tho
For a 6600xt it's perfectly fine
That's the cheapest, there's not really much point paying for a model because then you've 20$'d yourself into the 6650xt
Now those have no difference between that and a 6600xt
I've seen the 6650xt and the benchmarks don't seem to make as much of a difference compared to a 6600 and the xt
It's a quite big difference
6600 non xt is closer to a 2060/2060 super
6600xt is basically a 2070 super
I think they meant the 6650 XT vs the 6600 XT isn't a big jump.
But I'd still say it's big enough to be worth it, basically around a 2080.
Yeah that's fair
Is a 6900xt/6950xt overkill for 1080p 280hz gaming? I currently use a tuf vg259qm. I feel like sticking to 1080p since my monitor is below 27 inches and 1440p high refresh monitors are expensive. I might even get this 390hz monitor from microcenter because of how cheap it is or is my monitor fine
Over 165hz is useless for most people
99% of the population can't reliably even tell the difference between 170 and 300 Hz
^
but about 50% will say they can when asked lol, almost all placebo effect
Yep but then when put to a blind test they can't pick reliably
yup
Also higher Hertz =/= better latency. For a long time, and potentially still now (havent check for a while), 280Hz was the highest you could go that was actually good. Anything above that would be worse due to bad backlight strobing.
Also input latency matters
I don't think asrock challenger is much better than mech and mech is like 15 cheaper so might as well go mech
Hi! I bought an old GPU yesterday and just tried to install drivers earlier. Once it finished installing it started to go black and back to what I was doing repeatedly, with a notification saying "force to reinstall graphics drivers." Any idea on how I could fix this?
What GPU did you buy?
A 760
I know it's old but I don't really have a good source of money. Im still a student
What version of drivers did you try to install?
Try this version if you haven't already https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/189364/en-us/
I tried 368.81 and 461.72
My bad for taking so long to reply
Reason: Bad word usage
Oops
What i was tryna say was I tried flashing the bios on it. I saw Jayztwocents try it on a 780ti but it didnt work bc the memory modules on it were messed up.
that driver doesn't work on 760
support ended for Kepler since last year
gotta use older drivers
The one I linked does, it's the latest for 700 series. They dropped game ready drivers but they're still doing critical security fixes.
Should I be worried about scalpers with the 40 series?
I keep thinking that I won't be able to get one and should just grab a 30 series.
Perhaps for a month. I'm not gonna worry about it.
Will there be such a thing as preorder?
No one can answer these questions but personally I don't think scalpers will be a problem
With crypto on heavy life support, I doubt it to
I wasn't sure if they did preorder type things in the past.
Depends on the retailer
I see. Will it be just like FE version as first release? or will there be other companies?
like the gaming x trio and whatnot
If past trends hold there should be multiple models launching from multiple companies
Where can I pre order my 4090 ti super duper uwu
Probably 4070/80/90 and FE/partner models for each
Will a EVGA 650 W 80+ gold semi modular be able to run this GPU?
https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P5-3767-KL
anyone know?
Introducing the latest in the EVGA Power supply line-up; The gq series. These power supplies take some of the best features from EVGA award winning power supplies, like EVGA eco fan mode for near silent operation, Japanese capacitor design and a highly efficient design, at an excellent value. The...
Yes GQ
so it can
That's a C tier power supply, it'll be tight but possible. I wouldn't do any overclocking and you probably want a low power CPU to go with it
i got a i7 9700k
or should I just get a 3060ti
im just looking to upgrade my GPU
@livid idol
You might be ok with that
Since the processor probably won't let a 3070 reach its full power in some games it'll probably be ok, but if it starts shutting off when you play some games you know what the issue is
i mostly play FiveM and some flight sim
Yeah you'll be CPU bottlenecked in fs2020 for sure lol
Both probably
Should be ok I think
That's a little bit better match for your cpu but there's not really a problem with there being a bottleneck, you can just upgrade the cpu later
You'll never 100% eliminate bottlenecks anyway
No problem
9700k is plenty
you can look at the 6700xt
more vram and cheaper then 3060ti most of the time
more vram is meaningless when it cant utilize it
it is slightly better, but more vram means nothing
My disappointment is unmeasurable and my day is ruined
What is this!?
Bad
at TPU
Iโm going into engineering for college (more specifically mechanical), is an Intel Iris XE gpu good enough for the CAD software? Or should I go with a laptop with a 3050/3050ti?
autocad 3d will suffer with a iGPU like iris xe, if you can pick a 3050 laptop
That way it will last a bit long and could be used for gaming too
If it helps at all, the minimum laptop for last year my college (Rensselaer Polytechnic) had a 3050 iirc
I have an actual PC for gaming but thanks for the insight
Okay thank you so much
This year that minimum laptop was dropped to an iGPU however
Take a look into what your course requires and make your decision based off of that
What college are you going to?
Ohio Northern University
The requirements are old and outdated so it doesnโt help much
Youโre going need to need at least a 3050 or higher
If you where going with igpu you'd want at least a ryzen 5000/6000 cpu instead on an intel one
But 3050 is usually around that price anyway just means you'll get less battery with 3050 etc
Is the 3050 really going to drain a significant difference in battery?
under load
Would this be a good one?
the 3050 will consume quite a lot more
i am looking for a 2in1 that I can use to write notes on
1850 for a 3050 laptop physically hurts me
A bit but more just how the laptops are made, usually you are sacrificing more battery for the gpu depends on the model but yeah when under load the dgpu will suck more power
oof
Itโs cause of the 2in1, hurts me too
Also that laptop is horribly priced
rlly?
i am looking for a 2in1 laptop that is strong enough to run CAD software and do my school stuff. I already have a gaming PC so I donโt need anything crazy, I just want to be able to run good CAD software with no issues
and something that will hopefully last all 4 years of college
Do 3 slot gpus not have a lot of sag? Asking cause I remember some guy said that they were more stable or something
And I havenโt noticed any sag on my 3090 fe with a big oh heatsink on it
U make a good point
problem starts when you leave a heavy gpu suspended without some support
Nah
nah
Lego plastic couldn't melt in there
theres no direct contact with the metal fins to start melting
Iโm prob gonna build some technic Lego and put an asus sticker on it
should be like 50c inside, not enough to melt lego
I think the fins do make contact
Itโs an fe
no, you touch the plastic cover
yeah, you can solve that with a lot of ingenuity
Lego melts at 105c, and if the exterior of your GPU is 105c, you have bigger issues
Iโm going to build some weird looking Lego later
they made a lego set of me?
you wish
๐ญ
quite a strange fan config
you are sucking air at the exhaust fan o.O
those two are fighting each other
is a never ending cycle of hot air from your rad
Would be fun if you could use Schlieren imaging there
If I had knew what parts I was gonna buy I wouldโve gotten a bigger case
Initially was gonna do a ryzen 9 3900x and a 3070
With an air cooler
Then it turned into intel with a 3090 and an aio
The fan?
hurting your airflow instead of helping
Doesnโt really hurt it
Helps it a lil bit actually by having an actively cooled backplate
and I also use an airflow case
I wouldn't recommend that
Doesnโt show in the picture but I have two fans on top to
I also wouldn't recc 3090 lol
3900x not modern cpu, beaten by 12600kf for gaming which tends to be cheaper
It was before that came out
3080 12gb is $850 and is within 8% of 3090 for gamingn
not about how many fans you have, its about the airflow they are making
Like 2020
to my eyes its a lot of turbulence, but thats my opinion
between the exhaust fan and the top fan on your gpu
Helps cooldown the vram quite a bit
Pretty good trade off
And without the glass it goes down like 2 or 3c iirc
well, without the glass airflow doesnt matter anymore ๐
3090 only if you need the vram ye
Yes, NEED and not "need"
Need >16GB VRAM without use of shared/virtual VRAM*
Should I give up gsync and get a AMD gpu? Iโm looking to upgrade and weighing my options
Modern Gsync is just rebranded Freesync anyway
You're not giving anything up except some raytracing performance
But if you have a working GPU it might be worth waiting until next gen launches in a few months
Could be old monitor with gsync only
Those were pretty rare and expensive though
Or it was the only gpu at bb for 1080p gaming
3060s weren't all that hard to get a couple months after they launched
3060s are lame tho
But great for 1080p
I couldโve gotten a 3070 aourus at launch but my dad did t want to drive to Houston lol
Getting a gpu at bb was easy for launch
There was a point where I'd considered driving all the way to LA (my nearest MC), a whole 12+ hour drive. I decided my 2070 I got factory refurb for $380 worked well enough.
That was a really nice model 2070 too, performed like a super model.
Iโd just buy an overpriced card at the at point
Going to Houston is like a 3 hr drive for me
I got my card at my local bb tho when they started to drop them in store
Just had to ask them if they had gpus I. The back
That's kinda what I did, I started entering the Newegg shuffle and eventually "won" a 3090 for $2300. I hated it. I sold it. And stood in line at Best Buy for 16 hours to get a 3080 ti FE instead.
That sucks, I asked my dad to go to bb and ask if they had gpu in stock, and he also has a 10% off coupon at bb so the 3090 was below msrp
Oh it was the FE? Not bad at all
Yea
Seems about normal for a 5700xt I believe
Seen it hit 109 just now
What model? Mech 2x or reference?
Mech oc
Yeah that's sounds kinda expected of those, I'd personally undervolt if it were me tho
Using beep beep software (adrenalin) ?
Adrenaline would work
Or msi hornet
@mighty island best way to uv a 5700xt? Adrenaline or afterburner better?
Not sure since I haven't really undervolted mine
P sure adrenaline has auto uv but figured you'd know best cause you uv yours
I did once, but beep beep software gave me some kinda wattman error
Afterburner didn't work for my 6800xt
I would change settings and nothing would happen, just wouldn't affect the gpu
I just left it all at default
So I'd try adrenalin, unless someone else comes and says otherwise
Ok thanks fellas.
Ok tried wattman
Not instead of a constant 108 rangeish
It falls below 100 at times n back up
adrenaline
mech oc is the worst cooler design for 5700xt
so yeah, expected
110C is the limit
100 is fine
Ight sir
lol did you like my guess of the two possible models?
But bow I feel bad about buying it lol
So I should only cry if it goes above 110, that's when I bring out the hammer n start smashing.
Is there a thing as to maybe change cooler?
Or put my pc in chilled distilled water?
What case do you have, out of curiosity
Some kinda wait lemme go find a link
Water would short it but pure mineral oil works
MUSETEX 6pcs 120mm ARGB Fans and... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CHGZL94?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Some reason it ain't exists anymore
Glass front panel or mesh front panel version
Is the mech oc reference PCB?
Ig you could still try taking the side panel off
@mighty island Do you know if mech oc is reference?
Can't. Location calls for a very curious Lil girl.
Looks too small to be reference to me
Hmm ok
@woeful stump Maybe try the washer mod and new paste instead of a custom cooler. https://youtu.be/S0eYigMcgpg
Yeah they don't make them any more so any that are left will be used or super expensive
You could do a universal bracket AIO solution
spendy tho unless you already have a spare aio
Not super expensive it looks like
Oh easily, and if you do a kit with a full coverage block around $160-200
yea
Sure, it's been done before too
This video to is to illustrate how to install Kraken G12 GPU mount to ASUS Strix RX5700XT GPU. I use Kraken X52 as AIO for this project. Video more like bigginers guide so I have not fast forward any of the clips. If you want to see the Kraken G12 Unboxing Video, please click the link below;

You may want to put mini heatsinks on the memory
So
If you had to pick between a Mech2x card or a powercolor card which would you pick?
Which model powercolor
6600xt if that makes sense
The fighter, red devil, or hellhound?
Fighter my bad
Doesn't really matter both are kinda bad
Do you mean the Mech 2x and Powercolor?
Between those 2 models of 6600 XT yes
Ah shucks. Well at least I didn't buy them
Fighter is slightly better than the mech 2x but ehhhh
Either will get the job done but yeah both not great
XFX SWFT 210 would be better and is the same price as Fighter
I haven't seen those
Oh yeah those. I haven't seen them below $400 recently my bad
Yup. Just ordered.
Now to get an actual aio.
No need for a 360 on a 5700 XT
240 is plenty
280 if it's not much more
Yeah 280 for $62 seems to be the way
The EVGA CLC 280 liquid CPU cooler has arrived! This new liquid cooler from EVGA gives you incredible performance, low noise, and robust software controls. Howdy ho, I have a 3080 question?
Is 3-4 Fps all I get between 8GB, 10GB, and 12GB versions?
3080 12gb is the way to go
And there isn't an 8gb 3080
3080 12gb msi gaming z trio is $850 consistently
Mobile
Judging by the fact they said 10 and 12, they aren't talking about mobile
Mobile is probably what made them think there was an 8gb ๐
its better to tell them, the 8gb is mobile rather than "it doesn't exist"
It's going to be mated with a 360mm AIO cooled Ryzen 5800X3D cpu
There is no way I am buying a RTX 3090
You shouldn't
sadly even my old strix gtx 1060 runs SW Squadrons at 144 fps on ultra settings, so I want to upgrade to a 4k monitor as well.
a thermally throttling 5800x3d?
It should be ok since it doesn't let you overclock
No it doesn't throttle since I dropped the 240mm for a 360mm
If you get a 5000D Airflow you can fit corsairs 420mm rad
Nah go full send with the torrent
3080 12gb
3080 10gb tend to be barely less expensive
And 3080 12gb games very similarly to a 3090
Or, suffer with the 1060 for a while longer and go 40 series
With 40 series so close it's definitely worth waiting to know
The only thing I fear now is dust and what the toddlers may do to a HOTAS if left withing reach
Considering the 4070 is supposed to beat the 3090 waiting would be worth it
That... doesn't make sense but ok
My hope is that the 4000 series dumps the prices on 3k cards
Then you'll be waiting anyway
It might but also 4070 may sell at launch for less than the 3080 12gb now and just be better
Come on, I got burned by scalpers in the retailers on launch day on my birthday
And I don't know what the PSU cable requirements are for the 4k series
I remember saying that too lol
I am not buying a new PSU just for that card.
They'll have adapters for the 12+4 connector
The adapter will just be limited to 450W
I respectfully pass
(525W total max including slot)
And that's only the 4090 and 4080 that will have ridiculous power draws, 4070 is more modest at 300W
Even if it's just to know how it'll turn out it's worth waiting lol
Build a new X670 AM5 with a 7k Series X3D for the new 4K series cards, that would be more fun
Ok
I kinda like having my tech in line rather than mixing generations
7000X3D will be a refresh after the first run, launching middle of next year (maybe)
That also makes 0 sense
5800x3d released this year
"Modest"
30 series did not
I am patient enough to wait, I have to buy two to three 3070's and two 3080's
Why so many
Kids builds
You got it, nailed it
Just get em 6600xt's and call it a day
I would know, I've been here most of the times you've asked for help
You're the antec shill, no?
I'm the Gigglebyte shill.
Kids have two Asus Tuf B450, one MSI B450, one MSI B550, plus my own X570
except PSU's
No
Then by your own logic shouldn't those b450s have 20 series gpus lol
Lol
6600xt unless your kids are streaming or 3d modeling is my vote.
They really don't need 3070's and 3080's. don't waste your money on them xD
I'm more looking forward to how AMD 7000 GPUs are going to be. Shaking things up by not increasing power by much and moving to MCM, should be interesting at least.
I'm lookin at those RDNA 2 APU's
They are all Nvidia fanboys and girls, I buy a Radeon and I'll need a bottle of Naptime (TM)
7000G will be great I hope.
If rdna 3 gets it right the first try, I'm not hesitating for the top dog
Imagine a Switch with one of those
I'm planning on skipping next gen, unless I get a cheap one used
Oh
I would hope so. But I feel like Nintendo wants to stay with ARM
Do you think atx 3.0 psus will be able to support 8 pin gpus?
Yes
Yes, they have both
I want to get a new psu when I switch builds, and keep my gpu
Oh sick
Just gotta hope they're not expensive as hell
Could just get a console
The kids upgrades depends more on them doing chiors, I'm buying them all used mining gpu's for cheap
I've mined on my 3060 ti for over a year
It still is top 100 on timespy
Mining does not decrease performance
I have to question this though, the Kingpin is gonna have 2 12vhpwr for sure. When will we see a psu that has two of these lol
Not if kept in good condition and within safe Temps
This is just the first confirmed ATX 3.0 PSU coming out, more will come.
I mined on my 3090 for like a week while I was at school then decided 20$ wasnโt worth it lol
Until then, adapters exist
Inb4 1600W dual 12vhpwr
Right, new hardware for a new build
I know we can't predict the future and it's probably redundant to ask this, but do you have any guesses on what the prices will be when they first launch?
I'd say 400+
That wasn't in the leak
I put my mining money to pc upgrade as. I quit mining recently with eth on life support, but I bought a laptop for $700 and going to be buying a raptor lake cpu and mobo with mining money
brb or playing Diablo Immortal
Hah no
It's gonna be more compared to the current market, early adoption tax likely lol
In the 200s for 1000w units, maybe
Decent 850 watt PSU's already cost a easy 200
Not 400
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING AT
The g6 850 (one of the best osus on the market) is $105
I can see it doubled if depand exceeds supply
The 1000w is $140
Decent 850W are in the 85 to 115 range
Here's what I think will be a game changer on these new PSUs, currently we're only recommending more than you need to account for transient spikes up to double your average draw. With the ATX 3.0 spec requiring good response up to triple draw on the 12VHPWR connector, we should theoretically be able to use lower power PSUs again and not have to worry.
GT 850 is $95
kids are on me to light sparklers brb
True
Thats super cool
I didn't know about any of that
So yeah, even though the 4090 may be a 500W GPU, you shouldn't need more than a 850W PSU if the transient response is in spec for 3.0
I'm planning to go for a ~1000w psu or so so I can keep it for a while, I should've gone for the 850 rmx instead of the 650 but I was short sighted
Iโm prob going to upgrade my cpu/mobo on Christmas or something when new generations come out
Or just build a new pc
I feel like now is a good time to summon the wisdom of Luke ๐
It's a holiday, I'd leave em alone
I'm hoping a good amount of atx 3.0 psus are out by November or so so we can get proper reviews
Cap
I have an overpriced asus psu that cost that much
But it has braided cables
Ye, I gave multiple examples of high end 850s at current pricing
And a high end 1000
My RM850x cost $120 plus the 12 pin FE cable for $25, so even with the extra cable I'm well under $200
I'm very curious to see what nvidia is going to do for 40 series laptops
No way they can scale the power
It would be a genuinely acceptable choice to not make them lol
Or do 4070m max
Or maybe only for the low end gpus, 4060 ti and lower
