my upgrade was a Asus SLI Deluxe with a 939 socket AMD64 cpu with two GT 6800 pcie cards in SLI
Never coluld afford the FX-60 cpu
I have an FX 5600 then a 5950 Ultra. Yea the 6000 series is when they started to use & take advantage of PCie. My 7800 GS agp still beat the 6800 GT though, lol. Was fun to have pretty much the final agp card. Later I did a moderate upgrade to 8800 GTS 512 I think. Those FX-60 & similar cpus were great, but for no reason I ended up w/ the 3.06 P4 and kept it a while until "wolfy" showed up (E8400 wolfdale). Good times.
This elephant btw is still in the room
It's sitting in a Cooler Master CM Storm mid tower waiting for me to replace the mobo
Come on you know you love collecting antiques, btw I hate autospell
But if it makes you happy you've talked me into buying three RTX 3060TI for the kids B450/Ryzen 5600X gaming rigs
Rather than buying them three used RTX 2080 Super used GPU
Lol no microcenters in Florida so where $175. each Ebay purchases
Don't agonize over $20 here and there.
Says a 3090 owner
lol
So many not pato's around
LOL i was on vc with pato at the time it was very funny
We were playing a game of cold war
game gets over, we look at discord, literally 4 patos in general cvhat
I was there for the planning phase in mod channel, but I was busy
yo guys, not the right channel i know, but i need help for a friend, trying to build mobo+cpu and memory on a 600 budget, he already have the gpu and everything else... only amazon and on the US no problem. thx in advance 🙂
you should have your friend come here and ask, helping via proxy usually ends up being annoying and nobody usually wants to do it
i can make a suggestion, but then this friend is gonna be like "oh, yada yada yada intel whatever" then i have to answer his question through you
pita
you relay the messages wrong, he doesnt get context clues
etc
gotcha, ill tell him that
Any good recommendations for a GPU that handles 4k well with a 3.0 pcie
gtx 970 handles 4k youtube n netflix.
Lel shouldve specified gaming
I know, haha. 4k well & pcie 3 is dependent on game, and I'd say 2080 at minimum, or certain AMD cards that I don't know well. Of course pcie is generally backwards compatible and a 3070/3080 would be fine on 3.0 x16.
I was debating on a 2080 but i was always curious about a 3080 and how much i can get out of it for the price id be paying
Yea seeing how old 30 series is at this point and we're nearly to 40 series, I'd probably skip 20 series. Remember even the 3060 Ti beats the 2080 (non-Ti). 4K is a lot of pixels to push. People often do 3070 just for 1440p.
You can run a 3090 on 3.0 x16 without any bottleneck
4k gaming is altogether a meme. I would recommend 1440p and a better gpu, or a 3080 12gb
Yeah the only things running at 4k high without hacks like DLSS and at decent frame rates, are esports games and Doom.
And playing eSports at 4k is a meme
no u
the meaning of life is 42
cool
as for the 6600xt, if youre taking out a gpu from your pc make sure you undo the pcie lock
what's that?
make sure your psu will support it (although itd be fine on a 450w)
power supply
id make sure its atleast c tier or higher on the tier list in #cases-psu-and-cooling
what psu do you have?
doesnt tell me much, theres good 450w psus and theres 450w psus that will explode
i'm getting the brand hold on
it's the Rosewill ARC Series 450W Gaming Power Supply 80 plus bronze
i've been told it's good
i've had no problems so far
@heady turtle you heard of that psu?
it isnt on the tier list
oh wat
yes it is
its tier e
you definitely want to replace that
It's not good especially a 450w :(
tier E is basically tier explode
so new PSU?
kk one sec
Please don’t tell me people here use power supply tier lists
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/z9CD4D/antec-earthwatts-gold-pro-550w-80-gold-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-ea550g-pro id go for this, psu prices a lil wack atm
some people believe theyre stupid because they dont think theres any actual info behind it
but they would be very mistaken
is this the best in this range?
550W?
i mean, for the price
💀
you can get a 750 for a bit over 100
like it won't blowup
its A tier, best tier
i'd rather not spend much more
already going to be cutting it close
i guess i'll have to figure out to to do cable management again
Where is this power supply tier list then
pinned in #cases-psu-and-cooling
and i've been told to not mix and match cords
@vestal spruce is one of the editors and creators of it
i assume that applies here aswell
yeah, dont use cords from one psu for another
whats your current gpu btw?
It's a focus
makes sense why you havent had issues then
Just with a worse fan
?
for the PSU
Yes because they're generally a good indication of quality
the earthwatts is $70 tho
$30 tax...?
You can deffo get a good 650 for not too much more
79.99 plus tax
oh, why not order from the pccanada site
you could take a look, i looked for the ones i normally do but couldnt find much
i've never bought from there before
cheapest 650 was $100
i've got 100$ cash, it's either right on the dot or under it
i'd rather not use credit or take out from my bank
i cant find much under 100 after shipping off amazon other than that
next best would be this, but thatd be over budget https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/fq4BD3/phanteks-amp-750-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ph-p750g_us01
since its 101 without tax
sold out online
on amazon?
on newegg
ah
ye
is 550W enough for the GPU though
ye, might not be a ton of room for future upgradability though. Might end up needing a new psu whenever you upgrade
Is rosewill good?
i hate brand generalizations, but aresgame and gamesmax are the never ever buy brands
rosewill has some good models, the one you have is not among them unfortunately
model is more important than brand
which is why the tier list exists
Corsair has a few A tier psus, and then has an E tier psu
as i said, if its not high ranked on the tier list i would not buy it
that wouldnt be an upgrade from what you have
ok but will it blow up if i buy it
so i dont mean this to sound rude
but linking random psus doesnt help much
most of the random cheap psus you find will not be good
if you want something a bit cheaper, get this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RkjBD3/asus-tuf-gaming-b-550-w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-tuf-gaming-550b
its B tier
this one is B tier from what it looks like
or this for a 650 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dn8bt6/asus-tuf-gaming-650-w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-tuf-gaming-650b
it is b tier, just overpriced
oh actually
this one looks good
it is non modular though
i've already got a non modular
ah ok
imo it might be worth getting the 650, just since it leaves a bit more room for upgrading later on, but its up to you
i'm not looking for high end stuff
either will be more than enough for your current build
i probably wont be upgrading for a while
alright
and this one is 125$
which i just do not have
ASUS TUF GAMING 650W Bronze PSU features an 80 Plus Bronze certification for energy efficiency, Axial-tech 0dB fan and military-grade components, 80cm 8-pin CPU Connector and 6-year Warranty. Brings military-grade components and a robust cooling solution together to create a power platform you ca...
you do live in canada, right?
WAIT
have i been looking on US pcp this entire time
wow i am an idiot
119$ for final price sorry
there
i feel so stupid wow
ok well i'm ordering it now
alr
hopefully it won't cause me too much trouble
my cable management is terrible, if you dont care much about looks as long as everything is fully plugged in and out of the way its fine
yeah
i'll probably have a friend help me out
well it's been ordered
now we wait
If I were to get a gpu should I get the 6600 or the xt version?
if you have the coin xt is better
in the pins you have a rough performance of GPU's in gaming for a quick perspective
If you have the coin 6650 XT is better
If you have the coin 6700 XT is better
thats why he asked between those 2 options....
cause if you have the coin you can go all the way to 6950xt
at that point why not get a 3090 ti
if not, its within like 3%
since there isnt a kingpin 3090 ti (yet, and idt there will be tbh), i believe in ocing the asrock oc formula beats 3090 ti
3090 ti wins in almost all games but not by much
Certainly not by a margin that's worth over 2k
Just get a 6900 XT and overclock it. All you get with a 6900 XT is basically better binned memory and a factory overclock.
Oof, that's a bad one too.
Indeed
When you get a chance see if it still does it in safe mode
If so it's RMA time if it's in warranty
Nah it's an old card anyways, a GTX 970
Too bad it didn't took that long for me to enjoy it
Yeah that's what, 5+ years old? About right as far as GPU lifespan
Indeed
And I guess some bad perks about buying second hand GPU lol
Yeah the GPU kinda works fine on safe mode but it crashed frequently
crashes*
If it's crashing in safe mode there's definitely a problem
Wait, WHEA? That's usually system memory or infinity fabric
Microsoft says it's caused by various hardware defects or corrupt driver
Idk, might try on different PC if it still has life to be spared
I'm sure my memory is fine and infinity fabric shouldn't be that of an issue as I'm on Zen 1 and at 2666mhz Ram (defaulted my bios)
I'd still try clearing CMOS too. If possible trying the GPU in another PC would definitely help narrow it down.
Whea's are usually ram or IF related, not gpu
I believe also can be unstable cpu cores. Been a minute since I've touched ryzen
And oh, it also started on Event Viewer that it's caused by Kernel-Power with error code 41, no dump though
I think I’m mentally challenged… I just realized now that zen, zen+, zen 2, etc just comes from Ryzen…
Don't forget Zen 3 xD
Woah
That's not a cause code, it's a symptom code
Just means it didn't shut down properly
Having no error dump also points at memory
You could have a stick that decided to unlife itself
Memory huh, that should be weird as it's just a month old lol
Oh btw here's my specs
Ryzen 5 1600
Gskill Ripjaws V 16GB 3200Mhz
Zotac GTX 970
MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
Corsair CX650
1x 500gb M.2 + 1x 256gb M.2 + 2x 1TB HDD + 2x 500gb HDD
It's not corsair memory is it
Nah, maybe worse
Ah g.skill, could just be bad luck then
So it's not running xmp? That makes it all the more suspect its ram stability
Updating your bios may also help with stability
It's on latest
Clear cmos then
Ok, try one stick of memory at a time
Alr gimme a sec
The nice thing about g.skill is lifetime warranty, if it is that
If its another memory issue again, I'm quitting Ryzen for sure, this might be the third time I bought RAM lol
And had issues with it*
If you aren't using a lot of ram rn you could take a stick out and address it later after work
Third time? Maybe memory controller, first gen ryzen has... issues
My thoughts also, we'll see
Zen+ (2000) fixed a lot of the issues from original Zen. Then Zen 2 started pushing the envelope more, and really got competitive with Intel. Zen 3 is
Was gonna upgrade this to 3600 but :p this happened
i mean, 3200 seems a bit high with a 1600. I would set it to 3000
Still glitching
I'm on stock 2133 now
i mean, ram speed is relative. having 3600 mhz ram on a low end intel cpu doesnt mean itll be better than a decent amd cpu with 2333mhz ram
Ok, last thing before calling it the CPU is to put the GPU in another PC and see what it does
I think he meant R5 3600? Not 100% sure though
R5 3600*
That would be a huge upgrade for you. And if it's the CPU having issues it might come sooner rather than later.
Alright, I might ping you guys later though, brb for some time and I'll walk to my friend's place for his PC

could also do 5600x on that b450 for $10 more than a 3600
i doubt theyd be buying the 3600 new
3600 can be considered new still here
At least for stock lmao both came in 2019 so that isn’t too long for stock to be dropped in retail
in most countries they go for the same as a 5600 when theyre both new
Yikes
I wasn’t even saying to pick a 3600 over a 5600
I was just saying stock for the 3600 still exist
ok
New or used? Because I'm sure 3600 is still cheaper used
And they're clearly not opposed to used parts
talking new
Heyy, does anyone know what is the difference between 3060 and 3050ti as a laptop graphics? I want to know if it is worth to pay extra, or is the difference negligeble? Thanks.
Definitely worth the extra for the 3060. The mobile 3050 ti is a joke, barely better than the 3050.
and 2 gigs less vram compared to 3060 too
I thought so as well, just thought it would be better to confirm.
Thanks for the info
Do you perhaps know the situation with laptop CPUs? is there any large difference between intel 12th gen and the newest AMD CPUs? Or is it just preference? (Note: I want to be able to game and do some programming as well as some stuff with VMs)
Both 12th gen and ryzen 6000 are good although ryzen has leaps and bounds in battery life
It's mostly down to preference, but technically speaking Intel can have better battery life doing low intensity tasks. It depends on the manufacturer mainly.
More dependant on chip x vs chip y really
Have they improved it that much on 12th gen?
I didn't think so
I guess i am team AMD then xD
But when gaming AMD is better for battery
But this is 100% going to vary by model of laptop
Last i checked amd still one in Netflix etc
I've gotta bother you more @livid idol , do you have any recommendation regarding amd mobile cpus or does it just depend on the price range i am going for?
no, i'm going to do some programming and im going to use a LOT of tabs in the browser
Tabs are more memory use than core use
But programming, depending on the language and compiler, can take advantage of more cores
Yeah, i wont be going for less than 16Gb anyways, so it should be okay on that front
Less than 16 isn't recommended unless it's pretty budget these days anyway
Okay, so in conclusion. 3060 and Amd cpu, cpu with more cores preferably if it fits my price range. 😅
Yep. Just go with the one you can afford. And if you'll be using it on battery power a lot get one with a bigger battery.
Thanks for the help, i appreciate it. 😊
99 Ah is the max I believe they're allowed to make for batteries and still be TSA compliant.
watt-hours, lol. (aka 9 Ah)
Yeah those lol
@livid idol sorry for the sudden ping, it looks like my GPU is working fine and I guess your guess is right lol
Idk if this has been asked yet, but does anyone know anything about this card on backorder? https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-gv-n3080gaming-oc-12gd/p/N82E16814932489?Item=N82E16814932489 It says June 1 was the ETA but obv that isn't true
Yeah I tried calling Newegg yesterday and I was on hold for 20 minutes. And when I finally got through, she hung up on me 😦
Oof yeah it's a guess tbh
This one's in stock now for 850, 820 if you do the mail in rebate + nicer cooler
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qFytt6/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-12gb-lhr-12-gb-gaming-z-trio-video-card-geforce-rtx-3080-gaming-z-trio-12g-lhr
Lmao I actually just saw it and ordered it
Weird question, is it possible for a fake GPU to not be detected as a fake by GPU-Z?
nope
it will always be detected
unless it's a false positive
like having a gpu too new for it
what is the model gpu-z telling you?
i would believe it if it's something like 750ti or older
The cooler I feel gives it away
You should always be careful when buying older cards like a 970, 980 ect..
Ehh
💀
double their msrp
That is overpriced lmao
Yeah because the stock of 1650 supers in retail is low
People just sell used gpus like that for crazy asking prices on marketplaces especially with the 20 series
LMAO THEY SELL IT ON NEWEGG
Buy MACY GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Graphics Card 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 DirectX 12 PCI Express 3.0 x16, DisplayPort x1(v1.4a) HDMI x1 Dual-Link DVI-D x1 Desktop Graphics Cards with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Newegg shopping upgraded ™
The fake ones have hacked firmware so it's really hard to tell. The easiest way is simply running a benchmark and comparing your result vs expected results and commonly used fakes like the 650 ti.
Time spy requires DirectX 12, which I believe won't even run on a GPU below the 700 series and is only emulated support through the 900 series.
If they fake it with a 650 Ti, the drivers should cause crashes now. as 600 series doesn't get the current drivers
So it should fail, no matter how well they faked it
You'd think that, but the hacked firmware can basically trick it into installing anyway even if it's not actually functional.
But yeah bench that thing. You'll know in a few minutes if it's real.
I watch a lot of Fake GPU vids. both Adrenaline and Geforce experience can't tell its fake, but will fail to install the driver. anything before the 700 series or Radeon RX 200 I think
but ye, benchmarks work too
700 series is end of driver support too, as of October
Which means 900 is next on the chopping block, so nvidia can finally get rid of the stupid DX12 emulation for older GPUs entirely from their driver suite since it's hardware supported on 10+.
what should I look for in a graphics card? I'm not looking for one I just want to learn what to look for so I can help my little brother when he gets a pc. Obviously it needs to be compatible with your pc but what else?
are you building a PC or buying a PC.
If a 3fan higher tier model, just avoid msi ventus and a few others. Otherwise, check in when the purchase actually happens. Oh, have a good enough psu w/ enough cables if gpu has 3 power ports.
and whats your budget/games you play
neither just looking to learn so when my brother asks I know
oh
I just want to know what to look for
What I said + could post a link or 2 in the future & someone probably will say if it's good & give other suggestions.
Lol
its most beautiful card that I got but its price is not good lol
you can get 3080 12gb for 800$ I think
in US ofc
I don't like gigatrash cards but heres another white cheap option https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-gv-n3080vision-oc-10gd/p/N82E16814932460?Item=N82E16814932460&Description=3080&cm_re=3080-_-14-932-460-_-Product&quicklink=true
Nice I’ll have to put it in pcpartpicker to see where it’s the cheapest
and this one is 12gb for similar price https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-rtx-3080-gaming-z-trio-12g-lhr/p/N82E16814137711?Item=N82E16814137711&Description=3080&cm_re=3080-_-14-137-711-_-Product&quicklink=true
Yea I’m trying to go for an all white build
gigabyte is good option since white strix cards are expensive
Yea I have a list with the ti version of that card I’m looking at but I don’t like that kind of white
It’s more of a silver
ofc vision is not beatiful as white strix but almost 300$ cheaper so
Yea
it's up to you to give extra 300$ for its looks lol
i'd say 200$ couse 100$ is for much better cooling I'd say so
ohhh the famed white tax
As far as picking what GPU, you can check benchmarks on YouTube for various GPUs for the games you play the most, while keeping in mind that having your frame rate higher than your monitor refresh rate has diminishing value. So if you have a 120Hz monitor, it's not worth aiming above around 160 fps, depending on the game.
Once you've picked the GPU you want, check the MSRP of it. There's usually some available to buy that are pretty close to the price that it should be based on that MSRP.
yup fps are hand to hand with monitor refresh... no point in having 200fps on your game while you play on a 144hz monitor... you want a higher end card then pair it with a high refresh monitor... or just get a 3090ti to play at 1080p 😄
There is a benefit to having it a little above refresh rate, which is that it'll still appear smooth for the 1% low drops
For the price it's terrible, but ignoring the price it's a good card
I would get a white trinity for 899 instead https://www.newegg.com/zotac-geforce-rtx-3080-zt-a30800k-10plhr1/p/N82E16814500535
3080 12gb is $800, $100 cheaper for a better card
Yes but they want a white white card
.
Spend $100 on plasti dip
Idk maybe $25 plasti dip and $75 for someone (friend? Idk) to do it. Never looked at plasti prices
25 for white plasti dip sounds about right, I did that to my eagle card about a year and a half ago
Make a DIY plasti dip with automotive paint 😎
Hell you could do that too. It won't have the grainy look of plastidip
I hate the way the strix is priced. So much more for some VRM changes over the TUF and barely even binned for the boost clock
Specifically the 3080 one lol
GTX 1650 Supers are the best graphics cards ever
yes massa
And stop swearing.
yeah willis 😤
😱
also #freesenior until its backwards
how do i put the squiggly on top of the n when i'm on kb&m
U+00F1
To insert a Unicode character, type the character code, press ALT, and then press X. For example, to type a dollar symbol ($), type 0024, press ALT, and then press X.
Hmm, might not work on discord now that I think about it
bruh he was just trynna help 😦
preciate the effort tho
im in vc
WWWWWWW
Anyway im done lol
Why are you picking a fight in random discords with random people though?
Im very bored sorry
And that was all I needed
Pog lmao
Was very rude of him to be mean to people who spend their time helping people here
Indeed.
Just a bad troll. Barely entertaining for the few minutes their existence coincided with ours.
i dont mean any harm. i could care less abt trolling
Nah you seem fine to me
Smh
Hey @livid idol i'm here to bother you again😅 😅
I think i've narrowed down my choices to two. One has AMD cpu (R9-5900h) the other Intel(i9-12900H). The differences are minimal, but i can't decide which one i need more(I'm leaning towards more ram and less storage). There is also a difference in the display. The Intel one has a WQHD and the AMD has a FHD display. The price difference doesn't matter that much to me, i just want to know the difference between those two displays and which is better for what? Thanks for the help from you and anyone else that shares their knowledge with me.😊
life really do be sad
Full HD is 1080p and WQHD is 1440p. A higher resolution screen is able to display more things on a screen at once, whether it's pixels in a game or browser windows.
on a laptop tho, ur not really gonna notice the difference
Yeah, and now there is also a question of whether i should just wait for the new gen that is coming out soon, or not 😅
i'm in no hurry, i just feel ectastic, since i started working in april, and i can afford a pc for myself now😅
is there a date, when they will come out
probably end of this year
cool, so it's not that long
yeah, im on the same boat... waiting for raptor lake as well before pulling the trigger 😄
If raptor lake only supports ddr5 ima be pissed
sooner
hope so
i want to upgrade my rig so bad
and am5 / ddr5 is a no no for me thanks
im way older than that im afraid
4770k
so, it will be a big jump for me, still have pato's list on me with a 12700f... but im holding it until raptor lake reveal
They had to there was no way they where gonna let people with 600 series chipset ddr4 board have a cpu that physically fits exactly and not work lol
Is ASRock a good GPU company?
never heard anything bad from them, in fact the oc formula was the god tier on the dark age
ok cool
is aight
are there any RX 6600 XT deals going around right now?
just before i pull the trigger and buy one
Meh
Model over brand
They have one of the best high end amd cards oc formula
It’s a 6600 XT
There’s also this one that’s much cheaper in Canada computers but is 3 fan
How much is it?
Does it make a big difference?
true, brands can be good on certain models and total crap on others... like the overpriced asus entry level cards... overkill coolers for overprice
430$ vs 499$
$430 one
3 fans on mid tier cards are overkill sometimes, you can go 2 fan for less price sometimes without losing perfomance on cooling
Even if it was a two fan vs three fan the three fan being the $500 one it wouldn't matter

memory express sorry
Asrock formula is
the rest are fine
Are there any amd models to try to avoid, like ventus 2x?
but is it better to buy this one?
it's cheaper for sure
but
Yes
i've never bought from memory express
More expensive doesn't make it better
feels like a shot in the dark
Or just get this https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/3kZ9TW/gigabyte-radeon-rx-6650-xt-8-gb-gaming-oc-video-card-gv-r665xtgaming-oc-8gd
Better gpu for $530 off amazon
where?
amazon
but is a 6650xt
Legit just get the cheapest 6600xt you can find
alright
Model is near irrelevant at that tier of card
i guess i'll do it
ouch paypal, that narrow your choices
Mech, renamed ventus for amd
i'm doing it
oh wait
it's out of stock
very anti climactic
it says out of stock in very small text
cheaper cards are out of stock often, you need to check everyday to buy one. these days fare better than the old days anyway
well i ordered one
what would be the best card to pair with a amd phenom II 1100t
uhh how much budget do you have
well if you have no budget you cant buy anything lol
also the phenom also sucks soo i mean
well its the best am3 socket cpu i could get so
Yeah and am3 socket cpus kinda suck lol
im just trying to roll by ok until i can get my $2000 amd ryzen 9 5900 build going
Maybe a 1050 would be alright to run low end games with it, but I wouldn't spend much if you're building a new pc soon
Also what pato said, 5900x isn't worth it
12700f is $310 and same perf
And can run fine on a $130 mobo
i already have a $120 am4 mobo
it was “open box” until they went to check and it actually wasn’t
What mobo?
asrock steel legend
Amd it is then, unless you're fine with returning it
Since it'd still be cheaper to go intel
its been like 8 months since i bought it lol
i started the build and then school stopped me
also my phenom II was free so im not complaining
Well, I know you didn't ask but I'm bored, so for the build I'd do this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fqdLyK
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, GeForce RTX 3080 12GB LHR, Phanteks Eclipse P360A ATX Mid Tower
Tho if you're not building rn new gpus supposed to launch in July
What psu?
seasonic focus 850 80+ gold
Sorry if anything I'm saying is obvious to you, I'm used to helping people who don't know much about pcs
Seems like you have a good understanding
6900xt good choice then, just depends the price you get it at. Can be gotten for $900 new atm
i live near a micro center and their prices ar always lower than anywhere else
Oh nice
i doubt it about gpus tho
just found one at microcenter for 899.99
nice
Fair enough but 2k is way more than needed even then honestly id just go 5700x instead
What model?
how good is a nvidia quatro k4000
Not a good gaming card
It would probably be fine
But like look uses if you're super tight budget wise
i found one for $40 on facebook
is it worth it then?
i have currently a gforce 730
ik that
its not good
r7 270, r7 370, r9 380 all miles better cards
yea
Pretty sure the 270 was a R9
Also according to techpowerup a RX 560 would be slightly better than a than a R9 270 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r9-270.c2458
You could see in the relative performance
Ahh whichever it was weird they changed the prefix depending on the card sometimes like r7 370 r9 380
thats why i made my purchases on newegg xD
i have a question on what gpu to upgrade too from a 1060 6gb
A 3060 would be great if you can swing $400
idk if it really fits here but i have a ryzen 5 3600 and b450 so it will be fine?
but im at 200 rn
Yes, you could use a 3080 with that processor and not be CPU bottlenecked.
There's nothing worth upgrading to for $200
You might be able to get a 1070 used for around that price but that's already almost 6 years old as well.
If you saved up $275 you could get a 6600, and that would crush your current 1060.
I mean if he’s selling his 1060 6GB you could probably manage a 1080
not worth it imo
im not trynna buy sum for 200 i meant i had 200 so im closeish to 400
Ok, go for a 3060 then like I said originally or a 6600 XT for $360
ok mission 3060 is a go
It is slightly better and cheaper yes.
so wait would the 3060 or 6600xt be better to buy?
buy whichever is cheaper
however 6600xt is slightly better and cheaper most of the time
I think I may have gpu coil whine,it sounds like glitches,on idle it has a rhythm like a heart beat where it comes and goes every second.Should I be worried. The coil whine changes and begins to buzz when gaming.i have a 8700k,asus z390 a and cooler master rm850x and using 2 separate 2+6 cables. My previous gpu a msi 1660 super oc also had coil whine but only when gaming.
And I also had a different gpu when I had the 1660 super
😔
now that you mention about problems i have one as well, maybe minor: sometimes (really rare) i have flickering pixel dots when i turn on the pc from the post screen up to the windows loading screen, but once the load is done and im in the desktop everything is fine, video and all.... what could be the cause? happened twice or thrice in about 7 months of having my card
Coil whine is completely benign and poses no danger to anything. If it's loud enough to bother you, you can RMA whatever is whining.
What 6950xt should I go for that I can use with a custom loop in the future?
Our rather that has a water block I can equip it with when I go for the custom loop?
6650xt is that price and would easily beat it in non RT
morning
1070 ti
By a little bit
1070ti appears to be slightly better https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/GeForce-RTX-3050-vs-GeForce-GTX-1070-Ti/4495vs3842, but look at gaming benchmarks on youtube for a real comparison
Im surprised the 6600 is cheaper than the 3050 even tho its a fair bit better
Which one should i get?
I doubt it matters much, on a 6600 the slightly different shroud won't change much
If you want to spend the bit more, there's this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tWJgXL/xfx-radeon-rx-6600-xt-8-gb-speedster-swft-210-video-card-rx-66xt8dfdq
$60 more for a decent bit better card
6600 is around 2060s perf, 6600xt=2070s
Depends on what you're doing though
I think a 6600 should be fine for me
If you don't need the extra perf, 6600 at 300 is fine
Definitely
Can somebody help me with a problem I been having with my gpu? I’ve noticed when i’m running a game it’s running at 0% load and after a while of playing the game starts stuttering really bad.
11400f fine to pair with a 3080 lol
Don't use task manager to view usage
Download msi afterburner
Swft
Also what game and gpu
Are you trying to run ultra with rtx?
That's where my 3060 ti ran into issues on cod
Also with warzone my stuttering was caused by not having enough ram
How much ram do you have?
Are you sure your cable is not connected to your motherboard and not your graphics card if your cpu has integrated graphics?
At the time, 16gb. If you don't have much else open you should be fine though
What settings were you trying to run?
Also what cpu?
I have 16gb as well. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade. I noticed when I was playing the ram load would climb and climb basically touching 100% load so that could be it
5600x
Not cpu then. What else do you have open while playing wz?
A few background apps. It was saying it was basically using 1.5-2gb of ram
Imo it's probably ram, but I'd wait for some other opinions first
I was thinking it was ram too but seeing 0% gpu load was making me think otherwise. It could’ve just been the program I was using
What program?
NZXT Cam and task manager
Yeah... no
@flat ferry try DDU-ing
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
Contribute to NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards development by creating an account on GitHub.
Use msi afterburner
When I crypto mine, tm says I'm using 10% of my gpu
Since it basically just tracks core usage, and not total utilization
I use afterburner and I could definitely tell it’s working. I just started to use the other ones to see cpu and ram load and seeing the 0% was making me worried
I think it might be the ram because when I first start the game it runs fine but after awhile, i’m guessing after all the ram starts being used, is when it starts stuttering
I need from someone to find the right gpu for my pc
DDU it's most likely your drivers crapping out
pls dm me
We can help you here
ok
I’ve tried that already but didn’t really play much after. I guess i’ll see if it worked tonight
I gave a 5600g and i want to upgrade to a gpu
What psu is it
im using a 550w psu
evga gold plus
o
G+?
And what's your budget?
You in the us?
ye
6650xt/6700xt good idea then, as long as the psu is good. Just need the model
do does support ray tracing?
Rtx is a meme
They support ray tracing, not as good as the nvidia counter parts but it beats them in non RT
And yeah RT isn't worth it, best RT game is Minecraft bedrock
o ok
If you're trying to game with rtx, you'd be looking for a 3060 ti. Coming from someone who has one, rtx really isn't that good. It just tanks fps
You find the psu model?
im prob gonna upgrade my psu before i get the card
or should i wait for rtx 4000/
?
And stick with my apu?
Well what do you have atm? If it's decent the 550w will do just fine
The wattage isn't an issue, I'm just curious as the the model, since if it's a bad psu it wouldn't be good to put a gpu on
If you're patient enough
Up to you, are you willing to wait like ~3 months?
thats the problem lmao
hell no
if it comes to that ill just buy a card now and resell after i snip a 4060 probably
I’m hyped I got a 3070 finally
Bought it off a friend who wanted a 3080 for a sweet deal too. Win-Win for me
how much you get it for?
Should I buy my friend a 3050 to replace his 1660?
Aim for a 3060 or 3060 ti if you really want NVIDIA. But you can get a 6600XT for like 350 sometimes which is better than a 3060
He's doing light video editing and a little gaming and was hoping to use the Nvidia software for recording/streaming
1660 has the same nvenc as the 3050.
and the 3090
it won't be a big improvement, 2GB more Vram.
You'd be better off trying to get a 3060 imo
nice
Nice
which is better rx 6600 xt or rtx 3060?
6600xt
@lost nebula just to add on to this, get which you can find for cheaper, I used both cards, the 6600xt was marginally better in benchmarks but I couldn't tell the difference when gaming, I actually preferred the 3060 because of the nvidia software was so much nicer to use, get whichever you can find for a better price
6600xt almost always cheaper
in fact thats the point, you cant really tell the difference between both, so most of the time (if not always) the 6600xt is the cheaper one, 3060 is only worth if you care for the rt perfomance which on this card is like non existant and amd is rapidly closing the gap on dlss perfomance anyway
id wait a few months
I swear to God if you're one of those "WaIt FoR 4000 SeRiES" people
I mean
I see the point
But also
No
Like
I know 30 series prices will drop by the time 40 series releases
But i want a 30 series card now
Also the 1070 is EXACTLY 6 years old TO THE DAY
GPU comparison rough guide, update February 2023. Credit to @daring minnow

Oh, the 3080ti now beats 6900xt.?
Depends on the task
I want that 6950 xt.. I just don't know which one to get because I want a custom loop in future.
I knew which one to get with the 6900
Like near future
It's really not worth spending more for the 6950, it's just a factory overclocked 6900 with slightly better bin memory.
Idk, last time it was talked about it was 10% more perf for 10% more cost which seems fine to me
At least when I was involved.
I want longevity
Last I checked it was ~5% in games
Once I buy this gpu.. I won't be upgrading it for a loooong time
New driver might have changed that I guess
So I want to makensure i get the best, except 3090
id get a 3080ti then. RTX features like DLSS has the better performance, and more widespread support
But you can get a 3090 for $1200 now lol
Oh
$1100 if counting the bstock ftw3.
3090 usecase is situational
Something I can custom loop?
its better than a 3080ti for VR gaming, and certain Simulation games
just due the the Vram
The extra vram might become relevant once direct storage takes off in a few years too
i... idk if thats how direct storage works
a faster SSD would be the more important thing
so Gen 3 / Gen 4 / gen 5 NVMe
3080 12gb is the way to go, 800-850 instead of ~1200
It'll need slightly more vram to decode the files once they're in memory, which was previously the CPU's job
TBH this is a quite impressive price for its performance compared to a 3080ti though
i would just personally prefer the RTX feature set and expecting that to be more longlasting and more widely adopted than AMD's attempts
which is why i would personally go with a 3080ti or 3090
if i was making a GPU decision today
Nvidia's drivers are more "mature" too, and better interface
Idk though, at this point you might be better off waiting the 3 months for 4080 to come out
Hm
sure, waiting is always going to get you something better, but at some point, you gotta stop waiting and buy something
I feel like prices will be hiked way up for thise
or else you'll never get a GPU
4080 is supposed to crush the 3090 ti
800-850 for 3080 12gb
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VpJgXL/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-12gb-lhr-12-gb-gaming-oc-video-card-gv-n3080gaming-oc-12gd
If spending more
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gKnypg/msi-radeon-rx-6900-xt-16-gb-gaming-x-trio-video-card-rx-6900-xt-gaming-x-trio-16g
250 extra for 5% extra performance just don't see it worth it
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PjGbt6/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-12-gb-gaming-oc-video-card-gv-n308tgaming-oc-12gd
its generally not recommended to pay attention to hearsay and supposedly leaked performance
so
When everyone is saying the same things though, it lends a little credit
right but that $250 extra for more Vram, bigger GPU, spread out over 4-5 years, for better performance across that 4-5 years of ownership, in the grand scheme of things, is quite small
Sigh... this is always the confusing part for me to choose the gpu... fr though if I were to buy the best gpu out right now that has a waterblock(aftermarket) which one would it be?
a 3090
Which 3090
FTW3 is pretty good? founders if you're willing to deal with the cooler dissaembly, whatever high end MSI. gigabyte. Asus you can find blocks for
3090s are tricky, you want a block that has rear cooling or an active backplate
i personally have been using a RTX 3090 ventus with a corsair block on it
no rear cooling
totally fine
It's not more vram, 3080 12gb has same vram as 3080 ti
Cooler disassembly? Is it just a pita to take off?
yep, and people recommended buying a GTX 980 cause a 980ti was overkill and not worth the upgrade at the time. yet a 980ti is significantly better card these days than the 980. if you're keeping a card for that long, might as well spend the extra to have something that is faster
@heady turtle
same argument for a 1080 vs 1080ti
That where way larger jumps tho
no argument whatsoever that the 80 series card is better value
This is only ~5%
The 3090 is really only more than 5% better than the 3080 if you're looking at 4k or higher
I'm really ok with 1440p, but I want the card to last me as long as possible before I have to upgrade.
if you're buying a card now and dont want to upgrade for a long time, get the best you can afford
if you can only afford a 3080, get a 3080
if you can afford a 3090, get a 3090
I feel personally that comes down to the larger gap in 80 vs 80 ti in the older series tho, from the get go
the extra cost over all the years evens out to make the % gain worth it
people who bought a 980ti can still sit pretty with their cards
but people who bought the better value card the 970
are already behind in minimum requirements for modern AAA games
if you're not upgrading for a LONG time, get the best you can get
Yeah I have a 980 and a 1650s and neither can run AC Valhalla above 70fps on medium
1440p
6950xt formula oc for 1100 if you're spending that much
You're talking about an 8 year old GPU now. It's not that it's "already behind" it's just old and doesn't truly support DX12.
how long is a, quote, "loooong time" ?
So you say 6950 xt and demon says 3090? :P
6950xt in just pure raw performance is faster than a 3090
i recommend the 3090 due to its superior features over a 6950xt
Well i actually say 3080 12gb but if you where gonna spend more I'd go 6950xt
I'm willing to spend whatever to get what you think is the best. Not best value... but best performance.
Thats why its been so hard because everyone just recommends best performance/cost ratio
And idc about cost because its going to last me a long time
If a certain brand of the gpu is $500 over another but is the best.. well then ill spend that 500
@heady turtle or @daring minnow ..... in regards to rtx.. if I went with the 3090.. and ray tracing got better. Like past the "gimmick" stage, would this card work for that or would I need a newer gpu?
Well you could wait for 40/7000 series if you're patient enough
Like.. is it just software implementation that makes rt suck or is it the hardware?
Imo it would do okay but i feel next gen is gonna be a good bit better off the leaks
The longer I wait to get a gpu.. the longer I wait to take my 2 weeks vacation lol
Ray tracing is hardware. There's only so many RT cores.
RTX isnt just raytracing, its the whole feature set. RayTracing doesnt suck, its just very difficult for current hardware to do it legit. DLSS is currently a better way to manage that, and in my opinion, id expect Nvidia DLSS to be much more widely adopted than AMD's version of it
Up to you i suppose I'd personally wait for next gen if i was going to be spending 1k+ on a gpu
So would be more beneficial to get a 40 series for rt just in case it actually gits gud
Ye
Yeah... I can handle the 1650s for a bit longer
then wait it out if you are fine with what you have right now and can wait
if you're not fine with what you have right now, upgrade
I really only play ff14. And the 1650s plays it at 80ish fps max settings so I'm ok for now. But id like to fully utilize my 144hz
once you get into building a custom looped PC, price/performance goes out the window. you're already so far beyond reasonable spending on a PC to justifiy price, there's no reason not to get the single best thing you can buy for performance before you custom loop it
Yeah.. I'm already about 3.7k in my setup
I will be grabbing a 13900 as well
Yeah I've planned on that
and you can quickly spend a LOT more going high end on custom loops
I don't have any other hobbies
I figure with a nice good cpu/gpu combo.. that'll allow me to work on everything else
Id have bought a gpu by now, but like I said.. it gets so confusing with these types of debates lol
Turn to medium/low
Because I already have the fans/case I want. I'll probably be getting a white mobo. Gonna look at some white rgb ram.. just idk what is better than my rev e ballistix.
When is this 40 series supposed to drop??
at the end of the day, its your decision to make. you'll get a lot of different opinions from people with personal experience and people rehashing what they heard somewhere else. use this to make your own opinion and decide for yourself, we cant decide for you
~2-3 months
I suppose I can suffer another few months
Hi all, I have a gfx question in regards to the RTX 3060 vs RX 6600 XT, specifcally does a monitor that support freesync and the AMD gfx card give you a better experience than say the Nvidia?
dont worry about free sync vs gsync, theyre essentially interchangeable
6600xt is better and tends to be cheaper
6650xt is better than both and tends to be about the same price as a 3060
gotcha, and is there a make issue with vendors about which type of 6650 XT to go with?
not really, just cheapest you can find pretty much. youre in the UK, right?
correct
id go for this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/tWJgXL/xfx-radeon-rx-6600-xt-8-gb-speedster-swft-210-video-card-rx-66xt8dfdq or this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/tkTp99/msi-geforce-rtx-3060-12-gb-ventus-3x-oc-video-card-rtx3060ventus3x12goc
6650xt prices a bit wack compared to the 6600xt
so the novice in me thinks the 3060 with 12GB would be better than the 6650 at only 8GB but this is where you say the Memory makes no difference
12gb on that card are overkill, it matters on the big bois 3060 is a 1080p card
6650xt overall better perfomance
yeah youre right on point
3060 having 12gb is kinda pointless, itd be the same performance with 8gb. Only reason it has 12 is because of the way vram modules work, it was either 12gb or 6gb, and 6 wouldnt be enough
also partially marketing
ah, fair enough, so the 6650 XT does still take the lead but you suggest the 6600 XTs for now as the price is weird?
yeah. not worth 60 pounds extra for the boost in my opinion, though you said youre planning to pair with a 5950x?
for the core processor, yeap
i would consider going for a bit worse of a cpu and bit better of a gpu, unless you are only doing cpu heavy tasks
whats the budget for the full build?
oh i might consider 12900f after all
its 430 pounds compared to the 5950x at 480
£2000 for the PC and Monitor
kk one min
Id want as much storage as well along with fast OS disk
in terms of RGB I cant be arsed with that, I dont spend my time looking at the computer, I just tuck it behind the monitor or its on the floor out of the way, I care what it does, not how it looks
This is what I have atm: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/tp3qd9
how much storage are you thinking
im going to be blunt
god no
1TB at least for the OS, as a SSD NVM, and around 6TB > for storage
go for it
what is everything that you are doing with the pc?
in terms of what I'll be using it for?
in a way, I will be running VMWare Workstation on it to host a number of Hypervisors in a nested virtual environment, along with gaming when not using it for home lab to study for various IT certs
alright, so def will utilize the cores
what im looking at rn https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xvZsKp
PC Builder - Intel Core i9-12900F, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR, Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower
yes, I would need to have at least 4 cores per virtual host and 4 of those, then anything separate which will run directly from workstation and not ESXi
unsure on that hdd, its a good one but the price is what im not sure on
yeah nvm im sure on it now
thats a terrible price
here you go https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/J646Bj
PC Builder - Intel Core i9-12900F, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR, Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower
Im not sure if the i9 with the split cores would be a good fit for the VMWare setup, as it would be a pain to configure which cores get allocated to which VMs
thats based on the conversation I had in the general chat
Yeah, price on the 5950x sucks atm tho
The core scheduler on windows 11 should be fine with it, but if recommend doing some research online
sure, its £60 difference, but it might pay out in the long term and would be 32 threaded cores
I see you went with the 3060 in the recommendation over the 6600 XT
3060 ti actually, better than the 6650xt as well
It's about 20% better than 3060
Def worth the jump since you're gaming
gotcha, I take it the freesync doesnt matter then?
when you say interchangeable, does that mean the Geforce gfx cards will still work with freesync monitors?
yes
freesync is adaptive sync
which is a widely supported standard
make sure you use displayport tho
cause on nvidia, it's required to be able to use freesync
oh right, didnt think that was the case, too much Youtube and confusin, as it suggests Nvidia was g-sync only in my mind
the nvidia-only g-sync is the hardware kind
which is pretty expensive and rare
most monitors simply uses adaptive sync
gotcha
