Oh
also not available where he lives lol
id-Cooling also makes good cheap dual tower coolers
They have a couple different SKUs, they're decent
Anything bad about the ASRock Challenger OC B580?
lmao what
the RGB strip is only GB
Okay so here's where I'm at without a GPU lol, any recommendations to change the list would be helpful
https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/cd2RyW
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower
I know it's set to Italy; the lack of availability there has been a little painful
His budget is €1000, mainly plays Minecraft (also modded) but also ARK Survival Evolved, Subnautica, and probably more when he has a decent computer and more than 256GB of storage. He does have a 2TB external SSD right now, but...yeah.
It looks like it's a gtx 9 series
Apparently the RGB is missing the red 💀
How's Oblivion Remastered running on the 9700xt? Was it a good launch or is it buggy and unoptimized?
Might get it when I'm done with cyberpunk
It's a Bethesda game
Apparently the UE5 is just a graphics wrapper on top of the main engine
That's exactly what I mean lmao
How so?
Not exactly sure how it works, I just heard it mentioned in a yt video
By Daniel Owen I believe
I've just read that UE5 games run like crap lol
Don't think I've played anything with it yet
Besides Fortnite, but if that doesn't run well I'd be worried lmao
Ah I think marvel rivals also uses it
Is the 5070 better than 5080 or 5090
no
Lmaoooo
Bigger number better quite literally in this case
Is it a problem with UE5 or poor use of UE5?
Poor use kinda? but UE5 really enables devs to make slop, if that makes sense
Like, Lumen and Nanite sound cool but are poorly optimized and UE5 has devs leaning really hard on TAA and upscaling
This guy unfortunately comes off as very arrogant, but he also makes some great videos regarding game engines and optimization

So it's not that UE5 is a bad engine it's that it enables people to make very bad games and pass it off as acceptable mostly due to Upscaling. Does that about sum it up? @random walrus
Yeah more or less
This guy is a grifter though
in what way out of curiousity?
Idk he seems to have put forth some good evidence
Claims to have a team who are fixing UE but no proof of the team existing and going after Reputable people like Digital foundry just for attention
Digital Foundry (at least used to) be known for glossing over artifacting from temporal methods. I do think they've gotten better recently about doing motion comparisons but the call-out was reasonable IMO
I mean that guy also tries HARD to farm that mistake and hold it over DF even after getting better about it
Yes, which is unfortunate.
But it shouldn't discredit the other things he does that nobody else seems willing to call out developers/UE5 for
In this video our founder optimizes a project that created a disproportionate view on the cost of real time realism. This video shows major core problems with unreal engine such as workflows and foundational management issues. Then, we will address the abundant insults thrown at this studio in order to attack our credibility.
We prove the peo...
I mean
He's a narcissist
Through and through
And a major butthole to boot
That's enough for me to stay away
Like
I'm almost sure he made whatever he was "optimizing" here intentionally so bad and bloated that even a dozen monkeys randomly mashing keys on a keyboard could be reaching 3× the FPS optimization
Making 13fps into 39 is cool
But that's still unplayable lmao
He didn't make the UE project, it was someone else's demo running at 4k50fps (on much more powerful hardware)
I mean I'm just going by his own thumbnail
He used a 3060 12gb for native 4k which is why the base framerate was so low
NGL
That's a stupid idea anyway
3060 isn't a 4k card even with quote heavy compromises
Ok but the optimization will still scale the same...?
12gb mean it shouldn't be vram limited, so a card like a 4070 should start at a higher framerate and see a similar 3x increase (in the same project)
Like you PROBABLY can make a game that runs 4k120fps native on a 6500 XT
But do you want to put the potential HUNDREDS of hours to get there?
The point he's making in the video is that there are techniques that can be relatively easily applied to optimize an unoptimized UE5 scene like that
While maintaining image quality and not using upscaling
Or more accurately, you're still expected to optimize your own crap and that costs time and money
And people will still buy an incomplete game
UE5 is pretty much just UE4 that adds some features and fixes problems, namely most things in the UE4 being CPU-bound
besides the price is the gpu good? https://www.newegg.com/msi-rtx-5070-ti-16g-ventus-3x-oc-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-16gb-gddr7/p/N82E16814137933
any gpu is good if you ignore the price
if i decide to go with a 40series card which one should i go for and how abt if i decide to go for 50 series which one should i go for
4070/ti/super or 5070/ti are likely your best bets
which is better ti or super whats the difference
overpriced on like every single part lol
new link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3xRqQd
Part List - Intel Core i9-12900K, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower
basically same performance, $600 cheaper

Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, SAMA SV01 ATX Mid Tower
the HGST drive is very old, 5 years+ since manufacturing, but at least it's a proven reliable 7200rpm drive
both 9070xt and 5070ti prices kinda suck rn, wouldn't recommend actually buying either at the prices they're available at rn, but yea
5070ti has just came with a ton of headaches this generation
no stock, no (advertised) performance, no rops, melting connectors, melting vrms, driver bugs galore, etc
@cerulean rover wanna hear some highly ironic/weird thing?
Turns out that 9070XT prices keep going down here
From above 400k HUF at launch to roughly about 355k HUF right now
Sure that's not a huge saving (just about 12%)
But 12% less money for 100% of the performance? That's gotta be a win right?
(Just ignore that it's still about a grand USD here
)
ventus coolers are notoriously garbage, but also it's a 5070 ti. i doubt it will be a huge issue
down from msrp...?
hey tbf ventus 3x isn't as bad as ventus 2x
IDK what EU MSRP is, but it's probably less than 950 euros or so
Woah
That's only 875 euros???
Jeez
I think ventus got a redesign as well?
@cerulean rover apparently the EU MSRP is supposed to be 775-800 for absolute base model cards
The cheapest I can get is a Sapphire Pulse for 875 (euros for both)
75 bucks above MSRP is probably not awful (tho EU has inflated MSRP to begin with)
And my price is already including the record high VAT so in reality it's PROBABLY closer to the pre-tax MSRP that AMD probably thought of
which coolers are good
i haven't paid any attention to 50 series bc they suck imo, but historically literally everything has been better than the ventus cards
personally i'm a huge fan of gigabyte's gaming OC and aorus cards, since they tend to have excellent memory cooling
but you can get pretty much whatever and be fine
5070 ti ventus will also be okay i'm sure, it would just not be my first choice unless it's cheaper by a decent margin
I hate gigabyte's gaming oc fan curves lol
Yeah I have a gigabyte something 4070 and it just keeps the fans off then cranks them at a certain temp
my recommendation is not based on noise tbf, they've been a little loud the last two gens. i just find they offer much better cooling for their relative tier if that makes sense. ie the GOC is competitive usually with the Gaming X/Trio, or Strix, and so on, rather than the more entry level or midrange coolers they're priced against
understandable lol. if you tweak them it's less of an issue but still worth noting
Yeah it's fairly easy to just setup your own curve
I find that the cooling isn't good, and the fan curve cranks the fan speeds to max to compensate for that, I'd take gaming OC over ventus 2x any day, but I'd place gaming OC at the same tier as Ventus 3x
Idk if my 4070 card is a gaming oc or some other model but I've found the cooling is totally fine just the curve is wonky
My 3060ti gaming oc just refused to listen to any software control somewhere between 65c and 70c, where it just ramps up with no way to stop it, it appeared to be a vbios quirk
Granted 4070 is a pretty efficient card
Oh weird. I also came from the tiny 2 fan evga 3060ti to my current 3 fan gigabyte so I suppose I was probably accustomed to louder fans
Oh wait my 4070 is an Eagle I think
So in theory gaming oc should be better? idk
Long ago I had a 2060 3x windforce and that thing was practically silent lol.
hey my case came with 4 fans already poreinstalled where do i put the other 3 i go
got
On top or bottom
interesting, which cards have you used? i've had 3070 ti, 3090, 9070, 4060 ti, and all have been pretty much exactly as i described. i've just got off work and can FINALLY run that bench for you lol
sry my exams took way longer than i anticipated yesterday 🥲
huh, yikes. my 3070 ti had a reasonable fan curve. the 3090 and 4060 ti ones were a bit weird. the 9070 is sensible, but very low % wise. the fans cap at 4k rpm, so that psrt makes sense
i keep them maxed anyway lol
It might've been a fluke, I've only used a gigabyte 3060ti gaming oc myself, my friend's Gigabyte 7900 gre gaming oc didn't have the same problem, but it was a widely reported problem for ampere when I was looking into it
I've used 2 MSI cards, 1 Gigabyte card personally, 1 Powercolor card, and 1 Gigabyte card by proxy
wonder if maybe they had a bios revision that fixed it. 3070 ti was fairly late into the gen
RESULTS
BASELINE SCORE : 28043
CORE OC ONLY : 29566 (+5.4% score, +6.4% core freq; 0.843% score improvement per 1% core clock increase)
MEM OC ONLY : 28582 (+1.9% score, -3% core freq, + 10% mem freq. Core freq normalized base score = 27,333, = +4.5% score, = 0.45% score increase per 1% mem freq increase)
|| @cerulean rover ||
CONCLUSION
yeah i was just going schizo mode, core matter wayyyy more for RDNA 4. good to know for my mods, which i've had to delay (sobbing and pissing my pants). i'll have to demo my 4060 ti when i have the chance because i'm like 99% certain that prior archictures looooved mem OC
It sounds plausible that it makes a big difference on 4060ti when it's just a 128bit bus on g6, it's like only 60% of the bandwidth of even a 3060ti
yeah for sure. i seem to recall this being the case for my other, now older cards (3000/2000 series, rx 6000 series), but i kinda sold them all lol, so i cannot validate
I remember it being an issue for 3060 and hearing about it for 4060ti, don't remember any other cases where it gets choked by vram
3060 wasn't that bad tbf, 192 bit bus with faster ram than the rest of 3000 series. still benefited from mem oc a ton from what i recall though
rest of the GDDR6 30 series*
nah I was talking about the 128bit bus weird version
The 3060 8gb, 128bit bus, same vram clocks as the 3060 12gb
https://www.techspot.com/review/2581-nvidia-rtx-3060-8gb/
is it a debug LED? check what the red LED corresponds to
forgot that card even existed since it launched so long after the default 12GB
people made a fuss about it so I remember that lol
But I don’t have it plugged into my monitor yet
check your motherboard manual and see what that could indicate
if you're doing first boot on AM5, you may just have to give it a few minutes
If you have the proper cooling, power, and a safely capable mobo then you are in the clear
anyone know why when i downloadedmy gpu drivers for my 9070xt the amd software didnt download
I got a red VGA light on anyone know why? It was just working fine and now it’s showing no display
Cuz originally there was no mention of the downgraded VRAM and was sold as just "3060" iirc
How abt msi or gigabyte
Ventus is an MSI model, i've had excellent luck with their Gaming X/Trio cards though, and Gigabyte's Gaming OC/Aorus cards have been absolutely phenomenal imo (fan curves can sometimes be weird, but cooling is SUPERB for the price). i haven't used any of their Eagle cards, but they seeeeem to be just sightly smaller GOC coolers, maybe with one fewer heat pipe or smth, so probably also decent (afaik they use the same fans as the GOC/Aorus cards too, so no worries there)
i simp hard for Gigabyte Gaming OC cards bc literally every one of them that i've had has had ridiculously good memory cooling, and very competitive core cooling, particularly given the price
I'd take a Gaming X/Trio over a GOC if price is the same tho
Rog strix?
never had an asus card actually, can'r speak frm experience there
Personal experience, not great, current strix 3080 has leds that can’t maintain proper rgb anymore, excessive power draw while also kicking a lot of heat, and lastly just overpriced
Had to turn the wattage down to 65% and get no meaningful loss in performance, and sub 60c on air
iirc the memory cooling on GDDR6X 30 series strix/tuff was subpar as well. idk if you can confirm?
some models tho im not entirely sure
Tbh in today's market the cheapest card is absolutely the best one
I'd probably even take a Ventus if I needed a new gpu
depends on just how much cheaper haha. i'd happily pay an extra $50 or whatever on a $1000 GPU if it gets me an actually good cooler lol
I suppose I meant I'd take any MSRPish card. If they're all inflated to about the same price yeah a little extra for a better cooler is worth
where i'm at too. wouldn't pay more than say $70/7%, whichever is lesser personally, but as long as i'm not paying a boatload extra i'd like a nice cooler. particularly if it also comes with a nicer PCB
I got my Asus prime 9070xt for msrp which is the cheapest model Asus makes for 9070xt and very happy with it
oh sweet, how much?
The msrp is 599
yeah, but AIB MSRPs are silly
if it was MSRP MSRP then that's really cool
Nah I paid 599 for it at micro center
out of these what do yall recomend
9070xt hands down
what prices tho?
well yeah but individually. the cards all perform differently, and so value will be dependent both on price and the specific SKU
how much for a non XT? i can find them semi consistently for like $680 ish, which is much better value. like 10% weaker with same memory and all that
True and ig you can just flash the xt bios
no software for that yet. if you have the ability to hw flash then you should just solder a resistor instead and manually set the power limit to whatever you want (or limitless)
once software comes out, sure
Hm
Generally takes a few months for the software flasher to get updated
Yeah and I'd rather not void my warranty
i'm running a 9070 and have not yet had the time to do my mods. at stock it's still a wicked fast card. stock PL/voltage with a basic OC it's even better. would strongly consider a $680 non XT over an $850 XT
Alr
provided you software flash there will be no trace of any bios flashing so long as you flash back before sending it off for RMA or whatever
Hmm
but even as is it's better value at $680 vs $850 xt. and they still OC crazy well
i'm at 3ghz locked in Timespy and more like 3.2 in a lot of games
Btw there are cheaper 9070xts in stock rn, $800 here
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSWJJRQX
ah neat. i saw that, but i'm fairly certain it's still worse value vs $680 non XT. i understand wanting to spring a little more for the XT in some circumstances though
better $800 than $850 at least
As long as your PSU is of sufficient wattage, you can do similar things to the 9070xt as you could to the 9070
I'd take xt when it's within $100 imo
with hardmods at least. i assume they were planning on waiting software bios flashing and are not willing/able to do hardmods, but perhaps i'm wrong
oh do you mean flashing a higher PL XT vbios to a lower PL XT?
bc yah that's fair i suppose
oh or like actually just doing the +15% or whatever that the driver allows
Ye, no software flashing tool yet
gotcha gotcha. i assume there would be less % gain in that than XT to non XT flashing since the PL difference is lower, but still very overclockable for sure
i kinda wonder what the average bin quality is actoss XT vs non XT. would not surprise me if many non XTs were otherwise fully functioning XTs binned down for segmentation reasons. yields seem excellent all things considered
304w stock pl into usually ~340w allowed by driver is still a decent gain
Hey 9070 doesn't actually have the extra cores as xt though
yes
But yea 9070 can get a much higher relative pl, although I'm not sure how power limited rdna 4 is
i've been casually listening in on BZ's 9070 streams and it seems like they're predominantly power limited at stock. but they also run insnanely hot if you push them, so thermals quickly become primary if you do crazy unlimited PL stuff
Considering it's the only cards on that chip, it's more likely that 9070s were just 9070xt's that had a few defective rops disabled
that's what i would think except that 9070 seems to be in stock much more frequently than 9070 xt. so unless the XT is just WILDLY more popular than the non XT (or yield are worse than i would have expected) i am guessing that some are disabled but otherwise fully function or almost entirely functional Navi 48's
My guess is 3/4 of the current used navi 48 dies are used for 9070xt, rest for 9070, but there are many unused dies right now being saved for 9070 gre or 9060xt or other theorized cards
wb a 7900 GRE/7800 XT?
not really sure i wanna spend that much on sm llike a 9070/xt
7900 gres aren't well priced now, 7800xt is fine if you find it at a good price though
It's still like 40% worse
40% wworse than what?
Than 9070 xt
Could try to wait for supply to get better, but prices are still going to be heavily affected by tariffs
:P
i might go for a gre, seems better even with the high price
there's also the XT(god i love this look)
9070xt is still like 30% better than 7900 GRE
Need to keep the performance for the price in mind
i meant 7900XT
srry
same numbers, different arrangement, lol
https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-7900-xt-21323-01-20g/p/N82E16814202427 what will it take to get one of these babies for free
or get one reserved or sm
9070xt is ~10% better than 7900xt
uh $734 to $800 is 10%
it's $689 what u talkin bout
?
the $690 one is out of stock
out of stock
wait why would you pay the same price for a 7900 xt over a 9070 non XT?
non XT is faster in raster, wayyyy faster in RT, has FSR 4 support, etc.
i can't think of any games that would need more than 16GB or even really just 16GB at 1440p with the kind of settings you'd run on a 9070 anyway, so hard agree there
i'd much rather have heaps good upscaling and usable RT perf
OOS, but yeah looks good otherwise provided the price makes sense
Minecraft+replaymod+distant horizons=stupid ram/vram uusage levels
vram too? interesting
maybe it'll be in stock when i buy in august💀
this is $680, although not an amazing model. it's still fine enough tho
there is also the hellhound for $20 more, but of questionable value imo. nicer cooler for sure, but idk if it's worth it in this case
yeah, plus that thing looks like its older than me
it's just a no-frills shroud lol
I think i'll splurge a teeny bit to get sm that looks like its from this year😭
just check newegg/amazon a couple time daily and you can find models in and out of stock at that price
i got my Gaming OC for $630
OOS, but otherwise yah
i have a feeling that'll be most of em
.
$660-680 is not too difficult if you just check a few times/day
like i said, i got mine for smidge under
yeah
I'll start really checking once i start getting paid for work, so i got a good amounbt of time to go lol
can one use FSR on minecraft
Maybe? But I'd just get Sodium or similar
already have it(+like every optimization mod, ever) but i wwas js wonderin
bedrock or Java?
bedrock you can with optiscaler
java
no clue about Java
isn't distant horizons only compatible with Nvidia graphics cards?
on Java no.
I do not know if Bedrock has support.
nah thats nvidium
after some research and talking with my og-pc-builder uncle I think I'll go 7900 XT. I won't be using FSR(at all, really), plus i need an absolutely silly amount of vram because replaymod and distnat horizons are complete hogs. the 7900 XT meets all of those criteria, plus the specific model i want is exactly at my max price of $700.
Hope you have a 9800X3D or something with it
There's a reason there's an "I paid for the whole CPU" option
To be fair, 128 chunks is much more reasonable than 512 with terrain generation that makes the world thousands of blocks tall and Complementary Reimagined (on a 7800 XT)
Terrain generation took 3-5 business days unless I had flown directly over it
yeah no way im doin like big globe or sm like that
maaaaybe terratonic
Yeah that's like lightweight compared to the thing I was using
JJ thunder to the max?
Yeah I think that was it
eh
Have Chunky generate it then it should be fine
Although Minecraft itself runs badly with tall worlds because the world rewrite was done by morons
yeah
I love when YouTube lies to me about a video being in 1440p
bro i have to select 1440 to watch stuff in 1080
lmao
It defaults to auto, tells me it's 1440p, but it clearly isn't
yeah
Resolution ≠ bitrate
The YouTube bitrate for 1440p and 4k is a lot better compared to 1080p
bitrate is what dictates your quality in videos
well resolution is also a part of that
but they play important roles in different ways
resolution is simply how many pixels the video has per frame, but bitrate is the rate of data each frame has
or amount if you wish
since more bitrate means higher file size
(so is res but im keeping it simple)
Any news on a 9070 XTX?
None known
Dang
9070 doesnt bench very well, I went with RX 7900 XTX, this card is like 10th on list. Only 4070 ti and up are above it and some games it beats 4080
!ubm
`UserBenchmark is NOT a reliable source of information and has been blanket banned in many hardware communities such as r/hardware and r/intel for what started as an anti-AMD bias but has spiraled into delusion.
In fact, they tried so hard to skew results in favor of Intel's midrange that they even cannibalized Intel's own high end. For example, according to UserBenchmark, the i3-9350K is rated higher than the i9-10980XE.
For a similarly convenient quick-and-dirty hardware comparison website, we recommend using PassMark instead of UserBenchmark.
PassMark CPU comparison: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleCompare.php
PassMark GPU comparison: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/singleCompare.php

4070ti is not better than a 7900xtx. 9070 is roughly equal to a 4070ti
Here'es TechPowerup's chart, not perfect by any means but wayy better than userbenchmark
Here's the Toms hardware chart as well
😭
Granted he did buy AMD in the end
fair lol
Rt of a 7900xtx is unusable and also no fsr 4 so overall ubm did fk him over
i play 4k with RX 7900 XTX many different games no issues what so ever. My last 3 cards were amd, 4 cards but had one go bad a 580 it was.
580 was dissapointing performance anyway.
I bought this card instead of geforce card because of memory 24 gig vrs 16 gig, my son just bought a 4080 benches better then mine in most games but i wanted more memory.
Thought memory would be good to run in 4k
did you get it close to launch, or on one of the bargain bin deals long after?
i got it from newegg about 6 monts ago, my motherboard and card are both azrock
the 580 i got close to launch
it seemed to be a mid range instead of upper class
first 8 gig card i bought
it kept crashing and i did alot to try to stop it and just couldnt figure it out, it was fine for awhile then went south
it was a 1060 competitor, so yes
interesting. polaris is usually regarded one as one of the most stable semi-modern radeon generations
seems that they're kicking things back into high gear. RDNA 2 was really good and RDNA 4 is flawless as far as i can tell from my own experience with both
Hmmm
my amd drivers randomly get uninstalled sometimes, can someone help me find out whats wrong? heres the event log from device manager
gpu is rx 5700 powercolor oc
will the 8gb of ram on the 3070 be enough for a few years?
No💀
At 1080p it will probably be ok for most games, you'll need to turn down the texture quality though. I wouldn't reccomend buying one for 1440p/4k
And if you can, I'd aim for something with 10gb+
6700xt is pretty good
is it worth a 100$ upgrade from a 5700?
What are the prices of each
i got my 5700 for 120, and my friend wants to trade with me for a 3070 and id add 100 or so dollars
I think that would be pretty good
ok thanks
I don't see a lot of 5700 non xts on ebay, but xt cards are selling for $150ish. I'd imagine 5700s are going for like $120, which means you'd get around $100 after selling fees
So the question is for $200 would you be able to get something better than a 3070
Which I don't think you would
It is not even remotely enough now let alone a few years
its been fine for me for me since i got my card
Hmmm
NO!
Get a card with 12gb of Vram at least
12gb isn't even enough for me 😔
what about 1080
What county are you from?
oh yea I forgot about the 20% debuff on 1080p performance in the us but no other countries my bad
@tough plinth what's your budget btw?
@solemn panther
Read my msgs above, he's basically getting a 3070 for $200 and not having to wait to sell his 5700 on ebay
Oh....I see
6700xt is like 300+ rn
Get the 3070 for now ig.. upgrade later
ok thanks guys
do you play exclusively old AAA and esports games in 1080p?
guys wait what if it's linux
still worth it?
then idk how you haven't had problems. i had issues with my 3070 ti's vram buffer in 2021 lol
just overclock it to have more 😂
ezpz
(I'm not serious)
afaik Nvidia and and GPUs work pretty similarly on linux
It's the games that might not have support (anticheat usually)

got a 6600 xt sell for 100, its a good midrange card 8 gig
not sure how much they are now but i paid 3 hundred and something about 2 years ago
I'm having an issue and Idk if it's my gpu or not. I'm running a Radeon RTX 7600 8GB card with three monitors. My OS is the Zorin build of linux, I switched to Zorin from Win11 because, after I updated to win11, it stopped recognizing all of my monitors. It wouldn't display on any if they were all plugged in, but would display on any of them if only that one was plugged in. I've since upgraded my oldest vga monitor. Now, the issue is thus - eeeeeeeevery once in a while, I'm talking like once a week or less, when I boot up my rig it will display the boot up screen fine, but when it comes to launch my desktop all three monitors stay grey. Not black like there's no signal, but the grey you see just before they switch from black to desktop. I have to do a hard restart and then it will display fine. Does anyone have any tips I can try to figure this out and get it to stop happening?
ETA: Before switching to Zorin I sent the gpu back to the dealer for repair/replacement and it was sent back to me with the diagnosis that it's working fine. They had it running two monitors over a long weekend with no crashing whatever, but the tech told me that windows sometimes has issues running multiple monitors which is what prompted my switch to Zorin
Can't sell here just fyi. Can try r/hardwareswap, ebay, Facebook marketplace, or Jawa
ima test something...
oh boy, i sure do hope no gpu restock comes up tuesday/thursday. i'd be so ill prepared to extract funds collecting intrest from my account to get a 9070xt restock by then. sure do hope no amd restock happens
Wish granted
Can radeon 680m handle crysis 3 multiplayer
Theoretically, any gpu can handle any game, it's just that lower gpus will struggle to get good fps in more taxing games.
pedantry isn't very helpful
Go to YouTube and search "Radeon 680m crysis 3"
Modern igpus are pretty good, I'm guessing it will run it
?
?
I was being pedantic?
yes?
Oh
I wouldn't say so
Saying that technically not exactly any GPU can handle any game because it might not support some instruction sets or APIs due to it not existing or being removed would be pedantic
But I don't feel like what you said was really that pedantic
Though it also didn't really quite answer the question that clearly
Oh, cool
True
WELP!
i was right... but not on gpus...
What would be the best card to play minecraft with maxed out graphics
Also is there a help channel
Do the numbers in the names of cards mean anything
Actually digital combat simulator lowest graphics
ur chromebook will not run games, i'm sorry
Nvidia - first 1/2 numbers = generation
Last 2 numbers and fe ti, etc = tier
Last generation 3rd highest end
So yes good as long as the price is good
Gotta go back to work though so can't reply
60 - lower midrange
70 - upper midrange
80 - high range
90 - workstation/power user/you have too much money
50 - in theory lowrange but the 1050/1050ti were the last ones really worth buying
this is nvidia propaganda!!!!
when everything is midrange/high end, nothing is
and that's where we're at now lol
Feels like low range is just APUs at this point
i mean
xx50 is still low range
because they're practically an apu in terms of its performance

strix halo is 4060 ti desktop performance lol, xx50 is below APUs at this point lmfao
by a pretty large margin actually
funny how my 4050 is below igpus
my future for gaming seems bleak
since i can't afford anything xd
9070XT does this look right
Yes
microcenter actually did restock on AMD 9070XT's...
i was given the gift of prophecy and i didn't know it!
any advice for rtx 5080 aib? (asus or msi)
😶
what's your choice for the best 5080 in the market
What cooler designs are you deciding between
Ultimately, all the triple fan designs perform very close to each other. So opt for the design you want and if you have the guts, open the thing up and replace the thermal compound with something better and replace the VRM heatsinks with high quality copper ones if the model doesn't already have them.
Definitely not worth the upgrade
it's like 15% faster lmfao
i haven't seen much on my own research, but is there a difference in preformance on certian 9070xt cards? besides the clock speed i can't seem to find much else.
wanted the gigabyte 9070xt OC or the ASrock steel legend
There shouldn't be much of a difference
Least expensive one is gonna be the best
^
of the two i would take the giggle bite one unless it's more expensive or you do a vertical mount
the memory cooling on those guys are peak
core temps are also good, but you get bottlenecked by hotspots (basically unfixable) before edge temp anyway. so kinda a nonissue
Hey, right now i dont have a gpu and I was wonder if was a good option to buy the rtx 5060. It's a good option?
it's pretty poor value. for lower end/budget parts your best bet will be purchasing something on the used market
for the last several gens, low end cards have been pretty bad, with maybe the exception of the rx 6600
but thats pretty old these days, and certainly not new
what's your budget? @crisp pilot
its like 300 bucks
are you in the US?
yes
you can get a used 3080 for around that, or a 6800 if you want more vram instead of better upscaling and RT
might also be worth waiting to see what 9060 xt launches for, and if you can snag an MSRP model on launch day
and the rtx 3080 performed well?
much better than a 5060, and will have a little more vram
the only thing you lose is DLSS 4 frame gen, but that's pretty awful anyways. it also consumes a lot more power. if efficiency is a concern, then i would lean towards rx 6800. it is much more reasonable
3080 is still very competent for todays preformance
welp, i took too long on deciding and now micro center stock is depleted. just the pricy cards left now... even with the reimbursement money i'd rather not over pay
My experience with the 3080 is wonderful for 1440p and been running it under 250W with less than 4% perf hit and dlss with it works pretty decent, tho if a game allows the transformer dlss model use it
you can override all dlss games with nvidia app
it's been what i use to keep my 4050 running games smoothly
So I could use transformer on any dlss game?
many of them but not all, or even most
yes, although for many games you have to configure it manually
it's very simple though, you just replace the DLL file with the latest, then if if's not an anticheat game, use DLSSTweaks to set it to preset K. if it is an anticheat game, you just open Nvidia Profile Inspector and set the global preset to K
or J i guess, but that one looks worse most of the time. apparently it's optimized for DLSS 4 upscaling + RR, which isn't very common
I do play siege and siege X will be a bit more intensive and having that would help a tad bit, but it’s got battle eye
Otherwise it’ll just be for arc raiders on release
i unno
as long as the game has dlss
the nvidia app allows me to just use an override lol
and just use preset K or J
your games are explicitely supported. Nvidia had a list of games that it has vetted and added support for, at launch it was only 75 games, might be more now, but certainly not all of them
if it isn't supported by the app then all you have to do is follow the second method i mentioned. ideally the Nvidia app automates it all for you tho
Finally, something to do 4k on after psu duped my 3080ti
nice, enjoy the card
guys my gpu temp is stuck at 32 while im playing call of duty and i tried rocket league and overwatch it doesn't move it all is that a problem? i tried msi afterburner and ingame overlay and the task manger it all show that its 32 (4070super gigabyte) but everything is running fine, good fps and all that stuff
could it be from the drivers?
Yea it's a driver bug with 576.02 if you're on that version
New to amd, notcing alot of tearing and general mixed preformance.
Was there anything im missing besides the drivers and chipset? Re-size bar is also on
i've not seen this- can you describe it a little more? what exactly you're experiencing
If you had g-sync on previously, you'll want to use freesync now, those are the two brand specific options to get rid of tearing
everything is removed from the previous gpu.
if anything i've been noticing alot of mixed fps in games, sometimes it goes way down to 30 and 90 alot. on freesync
varriable is on.
not sure where else to go
also it is effecting the aio screen preformance, so that's also on the hits too
Yeah thats mine cuz the latest one made overwatch crash so i rolled back
I'd roll back further to 566.36 as a general stable point
the recorded temp being stuck thing is a known 576.02 bug
And what about the instant replay on shadow play, is it normal that i have to turn it on everytime i open the pc?
yea nvidia app bug
has been very buggy for ages
So annoying
The whole Nvidia app thing is a terrible idea
Not really, they just need to work out the kinks. The previous app wasn't perfect by any means
it's a bit of a problem when they're just ignoring long standing issues to try to make new features
Some reason on the 9070xt. It seems to default to 60fps for some reason
what is your monitor refresh rate set to?
also did you DDU when you changed GPUs?
Yes, and refresh is 144
If I were to hypothetically magically shut off my graphics card (or take it out mid usage), would that cause Windows to close all apps and go back to your lock screen?
Maybe as a safeguard or something?
I don't think so
How vexing
I asked because I think I've confirmed an issue I've been having for a while is a GPU problem. Essentially, while running games (and sometimes while not), my screen has odd tearing and fails to update properly on other apps or even in game (for instance, switching channels on Discord might only update half or less of my screen, or tabbing into Overwatch will only show a still frame until several retabs).
Another issue, which is more impactful, is my PC will randomly black out and lose all input/output, with only my fans and cooler rgb remaining on. This happens when I am gaming (before it was more intense AAA games but even lighter games cause this now), or happens if I have a split/reduced sized tab (in this case, non-fullscreen tabs sometimes drops my PC's overall framerate so low that this crash happens).
lose all input/output
Do you know for sure you lose all input?
Well now that's the odd part- let me explain a bit more
I believe I confirmed the GPU is the issue because plugging the DP into the mobo restores output to my monitor without needing a full PC restart, but returning it to the GPU returns a black screen. The odd part is that all of my apps were closed and I was back at my lock screen when this happened. I thought I was losing input (people in Discord immediately lost the ability to hear me, typing and hitting enter after alt tabbing to where Discord would be did not show up on my phone), but turns out all of my apps and software just close when this happens
interesting
def sounds like a gpu issue of some sort but nothing I've heard of before
tbh unless someone else has an idea I'd probably just recommend a windows reinstall
Is there a way to do that without losing the stuff downloaded on my main drive?
Shouldn't be a problem either way, would be nice to save myself a day worth of redownloading stuff though lol
There is, it might not be as effective as a fully fresh reinstall tho
okay, i have tried updating bios, power tuning, clean install and drivers only, rebar off, 4g off, pcie 4 forced, and stock settings but still having stuttering in games off the 9070xt.
what other options in bios/gpu tuning can i do to stop the lows fps stuttering?
Gpu undervolt tuning has not worked
I'm not sure what else to do, if anything a bandaid with the lossless scaling app seems to help "cover" the micro sutters with frame gen.
So im doing that for now...
uncapping the fps instead of putting it to the monitor refresh rate got rid of heavy stutters, but very small stutters are still present... i don't get how it mostly fixed it
wacky
your system is haunted dude
the only time i've ever seen anything like the video you showed was when i completely destroyed the voltage regulation on one of my CPUs by breaking an on-package cap lol
okay, wukong benchmark is not a good thing to base a general undervolt on.
new to it, thought unreal 5 would be a good general base line to try and figure out. but damn. everything is crashin after a good 10 min. undervolt is hard
Bought a newegg refreshed 1650 Super from newegg and it was disgustingly dirty with dust and grime build up on the PCB and contacts. It took alcohol with cloths and Q-tips to get it clean. Tell me how was that Newegg refreshed?
You can dm @cursive urchin and ask
Update to this- it was restarting
It was difficult to intentionally replicate it to confirm this
I watched some videos of people disconnecting their GPU from a running PC, and one showed that his PC went into surge protection when it happened (it showed input when he reconnected his device). I'm wondering if that's what's causing the PC to restart when this issue happens
Though a notable difference is he was able to get input by simply plugging his GPU back in- obviously I'm not live disconnecting my GPU, but my GPU still requires my own restart in order for it to be functional
The same applies even right now- I'm running the device through my integrated graphics after one of said crashes, and despite the device going through a restart of its own, my GPU still won't input if I plug my DisplayPort into it. However, if I simply power off and power on the PC, full function will return until the next time this happens.
So far it's been getting progressively worse. It happens more frequently and in more games than before (I've been having this issue for a while now, but today is the first time it's happened in Overwatch).
Worth noting that this time around, the frame update issues also happens on my iGPU
Which makes me think the two issues are separate
okay, this point i feel like its a driver issue... even with current games its having problems now. guess time to wait till AMD fixes this micro stutter and crashes
What games...?
I'm beginning to suspect a possible power issue? I mean, my PSU has more than enough power for the build, and my cables should be good. I'm not that PC smart, but in those videos, they're full disconnecting their GPU from the PCIE slot and then reinserting it, meaning there's a full interruption in the power between the GPU and slot. With mine though, the restart that happens after the GPU failure doesn't power down the PC before it happens (meaning there's still power involved between it and the PCIE), which might be why mine requires me to do a manual restart before the GPU can work again.
Basically, I think my GPU might be "disconnecting", or having some issue with power somewhere, randomly during gameplay. This causes the PC to restart as a safety protocol (as it does in those YT vids when they hot remove their GPU), but the GPU does not get restored during this since it never loses power during the safety restart.
This still leaves questions to be answered:
- Why is this happening, and how do I begin attempting to fix it?
- Why does my PC have the frame update issues even on the iGPU? (this issue is related to something else in the PC or software, but is not tied to my monitor)
- Why do non-fullscreen windows cause my PC to lag and even cause full GPU failures similar to gaming? (this issue is quite possibly tied to my GPU)
do you have a multimeter and a way to replicate the issue easily?
you can try measuring the 12v input to see if you're experiencing some kind of voltage drop under load or something
Neither
suboptimal
Corsair RM750x 2021 and a 7600x
S tier unit, pretty surprising if it's that
how is your home's electric? do you get frequent brownouts or anything?
Not at all. Happened in two homes so far as well across two different states
Could it be issue with the PCIE? Either on the GPU or mobo's end? I have an MSI Pro B650M-P mATX
it's possible but i wouldn't expect it...
Watch GPUz's readouts for the 12v input to your GPU and see if that drops significantly under load
I'll try that now
ff14 has micro stutters with preformance dropping to 30 fps every other second, mh wilds has crashing after a random interval, same with wukong.
belive it's a driver level at this point or i may need to tune to gpu to a low and stable set, eitherways. i can't be sure of it atm
Also if there's another tip. Some reason its also effecting my aio screen as well. The max fps is 60, but sometimes when the pc is under a specific load, the aio screen will freeze or dip to 1fps
and i do not have the means to "throw money at it" to fix the problem atm
try underclocking everything and see if that does anything
I did, nothing
CPU, GPU, dram and all?
Based on wukong.
Gpu tuning was for volt offset at -120, did mhz offset to max, and power limit to -30%.
None worked.
Also putting cpu to eco caused great instability making more sutters, left it at stock
voltage offset on GPU will make your GPU less stable, not more stable
if you've kept it that way, that could easily be it tbh
-120 is really harsh
CPU in eco causing issues doessn't make any sense tho, it drops clocks by pretty much nothing
Ye, thats why i moved to default settings and its still having effects
So this point its drivers
possibly, but your CPU giving issues is really fishy
have you done anything with windows yet?
i'd strongly consider running a fresh install (you can keep your files) overnight
sigh... once again... its the 10th fresh install of the year
Nothing much on windows besides putting the high preformance power plan
Even bios settings aren't much help
I do not know what these readings mean really
This is while running Overwatch's private match
Oh yea AMD usually doesn't have sensors on the 12v inputs, you might want to open up hwinfo64 instead and check 12v readings there, it won't be specific to the GPU, but it'll tell you if the entire 12v rail on the PSU is dropping or something
Btw have you checked if the instant replay equivalent recording setting is on? I believe that is on by default now
It doesn't affect my experience but one thing that causes random stutters for me is streaming on discord lol
It is off. I looked at the release notes and saw it was wierd for it to crash without it on
Could test with it on but that likely won't do anything
Btw pretty sure all of those are UE5 games, does the stutters appear in games in other game engines?
Ff14 is based off a 2010 in company engine.
I haven't tested others yet.
I'll look into it, but it'll take a while if its anything like mh wilds, may need to do long sessions to find any cracks
Actually does the stutters show up in any benchmarks? Like if you run any 3dmark bench or unigen bench or anything like that
I'm leaning towards blaming the game engine
I'm not familiar with the final fantasy games but I could've sworn there was something about one of them moving to ue5
Only bench i did was wukong and ff14 dawntrail 1.0 bench. Not the revised dawntrail bench.
Even so those benches doesn't account for gameplay/real senario.
Ff15/16 are in unreal i belive.
Else the other games I've tried are all in company engines.
I also got one for my friend too and he's also having micro stutters as well. Could ask what games he's observed it on as well
Idk what exactly I'm looking for here but funnily enough, the very same GPU failure happened while I had hwinfo and Overwatch open 😆
Friend says he's noticing sutters on unreal 4 games now atm.
Dunno about anything else for me
If you had the hwinfo64 logging enabled it should have a text file with all the readouts right before it crashed
Btw I have heard about the high performance power plan being iffy, may want to test with default power plan
I had, thats why i went to high preformance
And another side note, how about capping frames very low and having v sync? Say capped 60fps with v sync
Its wierd, in ff14 uncapping makes it sutter less, capping fps makes it stutter harder even to the monitor refresh cap
How would I find this log?
Can you double check in GPUz that the GPU is running PCIe 5.0x16?
I don't remember and can't check rn, but check the hwinfo64 folder
Thats why i said this, and it was proven pcie generations only effects a 1% difference.
Yet the sutters are making it a 80% difference
I hope this has everything in it
I'm coming from personal experience of my 9070xt refusing to boot with 3.0x8/4.0x8/5.0x8 due to CPU mounting pressure being bad lol
It's possible that it's picky about it, just want to check that it's not running on x8
That doesn't seem right lol
Not sure if that's the right file
Well now I'm completely lost lol
I'm hoping I can get this right for logging the first time around because I can't predict when gpu failure happens
It should just be a .csv file
https://support.lumion.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021829573-How-do-you-provide-a-log-file-from-HWiNFO
it is running off pcie x 16 lanes
Would this be it?
Had it running until the gpu failure happened
Was running DOOM: The Dark Ages this time around
Yea that's the right logs, I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary coming up to the end of the logs, assuming you crashed after around 18:46 there
the voltages look fine, not much droop, temps look fine
Okay, so it seems like ff14 and mh wilds are the only games with problems...
My two major ones i daily play. Damn
Well that's bizarre then. Does that mean it's a software issue?
It's something sudden that doesn't seem to be CPU or GPU
Start with blaming windows then your drivers, go through dism and sfc then check through your drivers, DDU and reinstall if you can
I've reinstalled with DDU more times than I can count now, problem always returns
I'm guessing windows might truly be the problem here
Run dism and then sfc and then try reinstalling windows if it's not too much trouble and it persists
I'll try to do that this weekend then
you can keep your files if you reinstall windows, i'd just nuke it overnight. takes like 10 minutes to get set back up once the process concludes
What's the process for this?
download and run windows installation media, select keep files when the option comes up
@idle bison
Windows successfully reinstalled
hopefully you have better luck going forward
I'm downloading a game again to test for problems
oh, did you clear your files?
usually i keep all my stuff
unless it's for a totally fresh PC
I did just in case it was an app or something causing it
I just saved everything important somewhere else
I'm noticing I'm still getting the frame update issue
Haven't had a crash yet but I also haven't been using it long enough since the reset to know if the problem still exists
I haven't been able to replicate that issue where split tabs can lag out my computer so that's good
Able to replicate this with Steam in fullscreen
This does not bode well
I don't mean big picture mode, just occupying the full screen as normal steam
Genuinely can't tab into Steam without my PC going 1fps
This is a recurring issue
I have a MSI 5070TI 16gb Shadow 3x OC and i have had videos mess up and it will only affect the video portion of the page and not the whole screen. It makes the video look like the GPU is dying but i have never seen it where it only affects the video. Usually it affects the whole output. Is it something i should be looking to return the card or is it a driver issue and hopefully it gets fixed in the future
my 30 day return window is in the next couple days.
After initial install, it ran ok for two days and day three it black screen crashed and full fans on restart. Got past that but still having this issue with the video feeds.
Honestly I'd try rolling back your GPU drivers to version 566.xx
Seems like every driver since then has had some sort of issue on some card
personally I'd recommend getting the seller to give you a replacement and if issues persist then try drivers since your window is about to close.
50 series can’t do that
Oop
do 3060s even need to be undervolted??? mine can reach 100% utilization with a 165 core boost 1000 memory boost on afterburner but it never really even goes above 70c. my understanding is that undervoltings purpose is to decrease temps and potentially decreasing instability from thermal throttling while giving a smal performance uplift since theres decreased throttling. but ive never seen this gpu go that hot at all
No need to undervolt.
Can you? Yes.
Also the more you undervolt the chip, the less stable it becomes because it's trying to achieve the same performance while using less power which can reduce temps allowing for more sustained clocks as a result but again it's more about efficiency.
so are the people making content about it just doing it for testing purposes or for content purposes?? because with the 3060 specifically i seem to find more discourse about it than other similar cards. nonetheless its nice how cool this card stays with the stock cooler
3000 series if memory serves me right, Nvidia designed the chips to run with more voltage than needed to increase yield as a result they can be undervolted much better than recent generations.
So it's a combination of people trying to make content and that the card can usually be undervolted pretty well but there is no actual need to do it.
ahhh. that sounds pretty fair.
If you have the patience to undervolt it properly there is no harm to it
It would technically make it last longer since it's using less power for the same results.
yeah ill probably look at it. not tonight though already done too much lol
Well pop in #overclocking if you need help.
alr. hope i dont get it to the NEEDING help part lol. worst case scenario nice to see its there
Agreed
Update: Just had it happen again
It's definitely hardware
highly unfortunate
seems the most likely culprit although the symptoms are really quite strange
if you're within the return window you can probably do a straight swap through your retailer, otherwise you might have to RMA :/
I don't think I have the option for the latter, definitely not for the former
can't RMA?
unless you screwed with its hardware in a somewhat detectible way, you should have a 1y minimum warranty period, usually 2-3
what AIB is it from?
AIB?
unless it's like palit or something you'll probably be fine, they'll just base your warranty period on production date vs date of purchase. and the GPUs have only been out for a couple months so you'll be fine
It's XFX
which board partner produced the GPU. MSI/Asus/etc
XFX is chill from what i've heard but i don't have any first hand experience
It's a 6800, not a 9070
ahhhh
But it was still a recent purchase, only got it in november
i misrembered what card you had
bought new?
Yes, from XFX's Amazon store
hmm. they miiiight have internal records of where units are sent. i'd give it a try, explain that you don't have PoP, but that you bought it new in november from their official Amazon page. specifically ask if they maintain inventory tracking records to confirm that your GPU SN was sent to Amazon on whatever somewhat recent period they recieved it
if they don't accept, just fake an amazon invoice and say you magically found it. they won't be able to reject you any harder than they already did 🤷♂️
best of luck homie i hope it goes well
if all else fails lmk if you sell it and i might take it off your hands lol
Alright lol
If right know I have a ryzen 5 3400g and I was thinking to buy a rtx 5070 is a good option? (I planned to change the cpu later)
I have 3060 ti do i buy a new gpu or wait couple years more
Been using it since 2021
No
5070 is bad even at MSRP, also upgrade your CPU asap, not just "later" like as soon as you get the GPU lol
3400g is really really slow. as much a meme as 5070 is, it's still going to suffer absurdly badly with that kind of chip
@crisp pilot you should upgrade your main system before buying a new gpu. I’d suggest going straight to am5 with a 7500f, then getting something like a 7700xt or 4080
^
even 8400f if the price is right
they were like $70-80 not too long ago
that plus cheap ali ram and a used b650 is a killer budget combo imo
Fellas
does it play the games that you would like to play at settings you enjoy?
Yes: don't upgrade
No: continue
Can you afford a new GPU that will get you to the settings and framerates that you desire without compromising other areas of life?
Yes: Upgrade
No: Don't
Reasonable answer thank you
all good. if you decide to upgrade let us know and we'll deal hunt for ya
best bet is probs going to be microcenter 9070 xt for ~$700 if you're near enough to one to be viable. aside from that, 9070 non XT for <$650 is okay, and used market is pretty much the only other viable option for anything below those price points
9700xt: the only card worth talking about in 2025
pretty much. 9060 xt is looking fire too tho
somebody in the AMD server got one early and it has working drivers already lol
They should’ve kept that naming scheme
I’m saving this lol
am i better off getting a 40 or 50 series? i need a card of atleast 12-16vram
What're you using it for
Id say 50 series, probably 5070 or 5070 ti
What resolution are you aiming for
And what cpu do you have
1440p i have a i9 9900k but i want to build a new pc with a amd ryzen 9
I’d say 5070ti personally then
Though please ensure you connect that power cable in properly
9070/xt
The gpu power cable 12vhp is fire hazard if not plugged in all the way
thats why i was consdiering the 4070 ti but i want 16vram so i dunno
9070xt is most likely going to suit you better
4000 series uses the same connector type but the fit is looser so you'd be safer with 5000 series connector.
Does it?
Oh it seems some have it but not all.
Most 4070 appear to use the 12VHPWR connector.
Weird. Mine is 8pin, didn't realize they had 12vh versions cause of how low the tdp is
Guess we both learned something new.
not sure if this is the right channel - but i'm upgrading from a nvidia 2060 super to amds 9060 xt
what are the steps to properly swap over? I read briefly on some reddit threads and here's what i gathered:
- download DDU to remove all nvidia drivers
- shut down pc
- swap GPU
- turn on pc
- install AMD drivers
simple as that, eh?
any tips would help
pretty much yeah. run DDU in safe mode though
but yeah from there ur good
thank you so much - will run in safe mode. ty ty
Hey guys. Weird situation. Bought my 5090 and traded in 4080 for it. Found out 5090 was busted so sent it in back as well. Wondering what happens to the trade in now since the return and trade in are both at newegg.

Is there a program i can install to make sure my pc is running correctly
winbows
wym
Hwinfo
Cpu: cinebench
Gpu: 3dmark
those are some nice specs
Are you worried about the thermals or the entire PC's hardware as a whole?
If you really wanted to test I'd use a suite of programs like:
CPU:
- OCCT
- CoreCycler
- Prime95 or Y-Cruncher
RAM:
- TestMem5 with Extreme profile
- Y-Cruncher with VST3 profile
GPU:
3DMark
Use HWinfo to track thermals, power draw, and WHEA errors during the tests
Or if you want the simple approach, go with Steve's suggestion.
Note that cinebench is a benchmark and not a stress test. Doesnt fully utilize CPUs to their max power extent and is incredibly stable in transients. Both which doesnt help when testing for stability
3D Mark is also kinda that iirc with transients. Or maybe it's just not good with loading low - mid occupancy workloads and making sure GPU is stable at that (pretty often for poorly tuned stuff to be stable at high occupancy GPU workloads but not low - mid occupancy workloads, making GPU unstable at idle, unloading games, simple games, etc). Cant remember where 3d mark specifically fails in being a stress test
They asked how to check if their PC was running properly, easiest way to do that is by comparing a benchmark score
But yes if they had a more specific issue stress testing could help
Well my gpu updated and idk games feel like they arent running great at all

DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
is it better to buy a 40 series or 50 rn?
9000
good one
more serious answer: what to buy depends on your budget and your intentions
Around 950 but prefer to keep it under that and my intentions are to simply be able to run demanding games like Microsoft flight simulator 2024 and spider man at high settings with good fps
Right now my 2070 super is barely able to handle the flight simulator (prebuilt)
9070 xt for $700 is the obvious choice here
im a nvidia f anboy
become a radeon fanboy then
next best thing is probs going to be a used 4070 ti super or something. idk if prices on those are reasonable anymore though
you could get them for $650 for a brief while, then the market went insane and they were $800 for some reason
if they're around $700 then i suppose there are worse options. you may also want to try your hand at camping out 5070 ti MSRP drops
which brand is best for gpus? (nvidia) gigabyte, msi, asus, or some other?
model > AIB. case in point, MSI makes some of the worst and some of the best cards imo. depends on what specific model you're considering
for the most part with these last two gens it makes 0 difference, everything is overbuilt and everything has that awful power connector
@boreal turret if you need a gpu look in #tech-deals nvm oos
Is it better to buy a overclocked or normal? I heard overclocking is dangerous
It's dangerous if done improperly.
It can be very safe if done properly.
Also, overclocked gpus from manufacturers are very simple extremely minor bumps to the clocks that are ultimately trivial.
it is impossible to kill a GPU via overclocking without modifying hardware
this applies to anything Nvidia, AMD, and Intel going back to like the GTX 600-700 series
^^^
think of it more like tweaking the boost algo than any meaningful overclocking
Apparently acer cooling gpus
Acer Predator Bifrost RX 9070XT 16GB OC
is a thing
noice
My graphics card fans just started ramping up and my monitor turned off, are there any known reasons as to why this is?
when the computer is out of OS I think it tends to ramp up fans, maybe
also when i restart my pc i have to restart it a second time because the frames and variable refresh rate become nonexsistent
some kind of crash. could be GPU related, could be your CPU or RAM
do you have PBO on by chance?
unless it's a really hard GPU crash (doesn't make sense unless you have aggressive OC applied) a lot of the times PBO crashes out with a flat black screen vs BSOD or other 'normal' behavior
I dont think its cpu related or at least in the pbo section because all the settings for it are on auto
Yeah i think that it has to be a gpu issue because when my pc boots up there’s no sleep option, it goes to a grey screen after idling for a bit, and there isnt an option for variable refresh rate or an option to change framerate at all
Just got hit with the pin glitch ggs
Any good Graphics Cards within $1000 lately?
I am saving up $1,000 to do a tech upgrade next month.
Playing at FHD with plans to upgrade to WQHD later down the line.
What do you have
I have been seeing some 5070 TIs around $830.
RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra
I am open to the idea of AMD but would much much much rather stick with Nvidia because I use Blender and I own stock in Nvidia.
I’d highly suggest going for 7900 XTX
7900xtx is 4080 super performance correct?
Is a 750W EVGA Supernova psu enough?
I believe it's a GT. My CPU draws 190w average with a 211W peak.
I’d upgrade to a 850w, or 1000w
RAM pulls about 15W
Are the DFX psus capable?
That I’m not sure
So what would be the downsides to the 7900xtx for production work?
I use Blender and most of the Adobe Suite.
Also do you per chance know what model of 7900XTX overclock the best?
It looks to be worse than a 4090 in blender, but not that much
Gotcha. Honestly if it's within $1,000 when I get it I would be willing to go team red.
Spending $850 for a 5070 it seems like a dumb choice in comparison.
I saw some models as low as $800 for open box.
Yeah, it has 12gb more vram
I enjoy overclocking a lot as you can see in #overclocking with over 5000 messages lmao.
Which models for 7900xtx are usually better for oc? Noise is not a concern unless it's like a nail on chalk board type of nasty
Sapphire Nitro
Within $1,000 the options are:
- Merc310
- Sapphire Pulse
- Taichi (white and black)
- Hellhound
- Phantom
- Creator
- Phantom
- Mercury
- Gaming
Almost all are either refurbished or open box. Any concerns? I am looking at Newegg.
Gotcha, may I ask how the Taichi compares to it?
Taichi and Sapphire Pulse are my top 2 contenders currently.
I’m not too sure. I believe they’re nearly identical, pulse has a higher OC
On paper, the Taichi has 155mhz higher boost clock and a much much much bigger heatsinks.
Taichi TDP is 15w lower surprisingly despite paper specs
Gotcha. I think so, I looked at what both call game clock
Taichi game clock is almost 200mhz higher.
Also, I apologize if I came off as rude. Just trying to do as much research as I can and understand what the best choice would be.
All good
I’m just a bit dumb lmao
As far as I’m aware, AMD’s HIP drivers need some more work if they want to do some competing against Nvidia in the workspace game
Thoughts regarding RTX 5080 Verto from PNY (refurbished) from Newegg at $1,050?
ROCm on Linux is pretty solid now. HIP on Windows is... not good though
least on a 6900 XT
any good GPUs in 200$ budget?
I hemmed and hawed at refurbished cards for weeks. Missed the chance to buy a rog 4090 for $2099. Finally decided I wasn't sure I was okay not getting a full warranty just to save a couple hundred dollars
I ended up buying a tuf non oc rtx 5090 for $2759. Then immediately started to panic because I'm worried they'll make the 5080 super be within spitting distance of its performance. Of course I know super releases have been crap in the past. But, they're actually strapping more vram to these so they might be doing something
What's the expected release?
I want to say fall of this year, but there's no hard release as far as I know
As for patience, I am not in any real rush since I just upped my native FPS in Rivals from low 80s to very consistent capped 120fps with a $--- ton of ram tuning.
I wasn't aware tuning ram could deliver that much more performance
Were the initial tunings slow to begin with
Well 90% ram and a few light changes to how the CPU accesses / handles ram.
I'm not up to snuff on how newer ryzen interfaces with ram and how to tune it
248 > 270 > 298 thousand were the major milestones I hit using Karhu to check speed.
248 was XMP with 6400 1:1
Haven't heard of that benchmark
It's paid software ($10) but with a small addon I can check current (avg) and peak speed of the tests.
I'm going to buy a 48gb g.skill kit with super low latency
First word latency is around 8 point something ms
I got lucky and attained what I'd be bold enough to call a borderline golden sample with my memory controller.
Most 7000/9000 series cpus need around 1.27 SOC voltage to do 6400 1:1 (synced). Mine can do 6400 1:1 at 1.165v. Though to get Nitro settings stable I had to bump them to 1.195v.
Make sure it's Hynix die
Expo doesn't matter if your going to manually tune it which I'd be happy to help with in #overclocking as I leak seeing how different hardware work.
I was only into Samsung b dies from back in the day. I know nothing about hynix m or whatever dies are considered good
Teamgroup sells 2x24 kits that specify exactly which die they use, gimme a sec.
DDR5 Samsung = bad. Hynix A or M = best
Micron = okay but not good
Here's the model number
F5-6000J2636H24GX2-TZ5NR
Unfortunately since it's G.Skill that only gives timings, not the actual ic which you have to buy to read the label for the IC number.
I'm a g.skill loyalist. I prefer how their kits look. I won't consider other kits for that reason
Which CPU?
I'm deciding between a 9800x3d or 9950x3d
Are you willing to risk melting plastic with those dimms without active cooling?
Didn't plan on much OCing so I was going to get a asus x870e-e mobo
I understand the apex is better for ram tuning because it only has 2 dimm slots
Hynix A and M can daily 1.7v with enough cooling, others have done 1.9 but that requires a obnoxious amount of cooling in the form of waterblocks.
For the price these kits are, I pretty much planned on running expo, at least until I understand or see a benefit to tuning for my needs
If I got the standard non rgb kits, it wouldn't care about brand, cooling or anything
I have tuned 2 separate 7950x3D, 7950x, and now my 9950x3D. My experience is this. If you are patient enough, you can generally squeeze at least 5-8% higher max fps and gain a massive bump to 1% and 0.1% lows on DDR5.
Does it feel like it mitigates any stutter or makes it feel smoother
granted all my experience is with Dual Rank sticks (which 2x24 is Dual rank like my 2x32).
Easily reduces stuttering.
which as a result = much smoother experience.
That's something I'm interested in then
I had a 5800x3d, 4080 and 3600 cl 16 memory and everything felt really hitchy
I wish to emphasize, if you want to try your hand at ram OC I would be happy to help but your going to want to get different heatspreaders.
I'll keep that in mind. Appreciate the offer
Right now I'm trying to decide if I should cancel this 5090 or not
What's your budget for 2x24?
Honestly if your lucky enough to get a 5090 I'd say keep it.
My budget is north of $250
Oh way more than what I was gonna recommend.
That's guarenteed Hynix M die and a good bin.
You will want to drop the frequency for 1:1 as there is no chance in hell anything above 6600mhz will be stable 1:1
Just not a fan of the spreader. Thats more suited for a asus pro art build
If you get a good IMC go for 1:1, if you have a good board but bad imc go for 2:1
What style are you going for?
Every pc I've built just kind of looks like this first one i did
I can't post the pic. Here's the post on pcpartpicker.com
Are G.Skill royal sticks or non rgb an option? If your going to get RGB, at least the royal sticks from g.skill are usually binned better.
Wondering because I haven't heard of a single incident with melting plastic with the royals and are binned better.
I'll have to look more later. I've got to head to class now and then work, so I'll be back later. Thanks for the help
How safe/reliable is buying open boxes in neweeg, even though the gpu is relatively new such as the 5080
very
what model is it, out of curiosity? some of the aibs don't seal their boxes, so any unopened returns have to be sent to open box
My first PC was a open box from Newegg, every thing came working and I am still reusing the GPU now 4 almost 5 years later.
anything open box is basically new
they're just returns
opened, looked, (and maybe a little tested) returned
replaced with a brick
If it doesn't have grout on it it's probably new
I wanna build a wall using just gpus
