Also, after checking it once, a normal person would check it after a few hours or the next day mostly.

About all the team roles — we have a limited number of reactions under the self-appointed roles, so we will need to choose carefully. I think we will make something like a little poll here later this week and we will be choosing new team roles one by one 😉

It's a limit of 20 reactions under any message in Discord, and there are 56 heroes currently in a game. I suggest that each player could have a sequence of 4 team roles -- one of tanks, one of healers, one of supporters and one of other heroes which can act as a damage dealer. This would allow you to get around of 20-reactions limit, because it's only a few heroes can act as damage dealers. No more than 20, anyway.

It's a great tool, but it violates Discord ToS and, to some regard, GDPR. Just like almost all other bots with similar functionality. Small servers can afford to use the tools like this one, but we won't use it. Your data should be safe and well protected here.

Well, pretty much all of the bots have their downsides, but we will look into the native Discord moderating tools that they've introduced not that long ago, maybe we can switch to those for moderating purposes. But we won't "ban mee6", it serves many purposes, for example it is used for leveled roles. And yes, we can use other bots for making a similar leveled role system, and it will be more stable than the current one! But here is the catch: we won't be able to transfer your levels to this new system from another bot, so all of you will have to start from the beginning once again in terms of your levels and your position in the server activity board.

Well, that shouldn't be news for you, you've discussed this whole thing before among yourself. So we will see if there are good alternatives for Mee6 for moderation purposes, and will look into possible issues when switching between moderating tools - there are might be some underlying issues

A good suggestion: Make Helpers. if Mods are away and there's a sus troll, helpers have the power to time them out. helpers can't ban or kick or remove bans but they can do basic chat stuff. since they have helping experience, you can choose from the helpers the next time you make mods. helpers should be pretty active in the server and should have some in game knowledge as well. you can make applications on google forms. make the role pingable to everyone. we could have about 6 helpers ish. would be helpful, helping moderating with this many channels!

(For what I know, mee6 can still punish people for spamming/bad words/command usage on other chats even if he can't write there, he'll just delete the message and say nothing but it will still be send on logs, so it shouldn't cause any problem with the automoderation of the bot)

with more and more servers being created the need to announce guild recruitment posts increases as well. 6 hour slow mode on the recruitment channel doesn't look appropriate.
easiest solution would be to have 2 channels for recruitment, one for server 1-250 (or 200, you have the data) guilds and a 2nd one for 251-♾️ guilds.

Recently I had a problem with getting banned, quite possibly by a mistake.

On Tuesday, I was chatting in #💬general when some Steam scammer sent a "gift" link. Someone pinged @Moderator role to deal with the scammer. I was just exploring the Report menu trying to report a scam, and suddenly, the server disappeared. The best theory on what happened that I can come up with is: Two moderators noticed the ping, one correctly banned the scammer and another banned me by mistake. There was no mod log entry.

I contacted the few people I had in friend list or knew by name and asked them if they could ask the mods on my behalf to learn what happened (and if it was just a mistake, revoke the ban). Three days later on Friday I was pretty much giving up. But then friends of mine contacted Zulugul on my behalf and he revoked the ban.

Now I have direct contact with Zulugul, so while he's still a moderator, I can contact a mod directly. But I still think there is a systemic issue and the appeal process, if I can even call it a process, doesn't work well. I suggest these improvements:

1. There should be some contact that is reachable even after the player is banned and not a server member anymore.
2. MEE6 should always send a message to the banned person regardless of ban reason, with the ban reason and instructions on how to appeal.
3. #moderators-activity should contain ban reason even if swift action was taken and reasoning was added post-mortem.
4. The appeal process should be as fast as possible if there are no mentions of ban reason in any moderation-related channels. If no moderator testifies against you, you're considered innocent.
5. Give high level members some level of ban-protection. Most scammers are new members, most people chatting are Denizens or higher. Limiting their bans to the use of commands in #moderators-activity lowers the chance of an accidental ban by a misclick.

While sitting in the waiting room for a doctor i can easily remove a spammer / scammer together with deleting all their posts in every channel very fast and safely with 1 action in the mod interface on my mobile phone instead of using MEE and then manually deleting 20 posts waiting for discord to update search results in between.
i am already using more time for moderating this server than for my paid work.

i do support your request but i will in future just not do anything with my mobile and the spam / scam will stay longer on the server.

Well, I'd be fine with an improvement in less than all five points. Current state is, let's say, pretty bad. Let me sum up the (ex-)member's situation and needs behind this:

1. They're sitting in the dark and nearly everyone is out of reach.
2. They may even have no idea what why they were banned
3. If their friends look up the reason of their disappearence, they find nothing
   If perhaps some of the steps above cause more trouble to the mods than they help prevent mistakes, it's fine by me if the prevention part is axed and only the appeal part is done.

one of the problems that i had was: nobody could tell me if @ vlasec was really the account who formerly had the nickname "Kokoth (FB70)" on the discord server.
IF you had reached out to me by yourself, by requesting to send me a DM and by asking me what happened and by confirming the nickname and @ discord account, this would have been handled much faster. i am usually reacting to DM requests containing a reasonable text (more than "hi" or "how are you") within about 8 hours.
cant say if other mods have their DMs as open as i, but i figured it would be appropriate for such cases.

Well, sometimes the handle can differ from the display name for the mods, too.

As for reaching out to you, well. For that I'd need the following, as long as I don't have a mod in friends list:

• Know a mod by their name (and preferably, handle) or ask a friend to look one up for me
• Try if they're reachable without a friend request, and if not, send a friend request
• If the mod accepts, state my case and hope that they can resolve the issue.
  I incorrectly remembered Tarrow as a mod, even though she hasn't been a mod for quite some time. I had a chat with her before, but with me already gone from the server and her settings, PM wouldn't reach her and she didn't accept friend request either.

Either way, there was absolutely no clarity who to ask for help. Something akin to Dromm Bot as a mod mail could be the best solution, as long as it doesn't require the player to be on the server to send a message. If I didn't have any server members in my friend list (and a bad memory for names on top), I would be unable to reach out even indirectly and the ban would never be lifted.

And since ban evasion is a bannable offense by itself, I'm not even sure if making a second Discord account (which I don't even have at this moment) would be a good idea on how to get in contact: It could be seen as disrespecting the ban, potentially aggravating my situation.

The idea of a mod mail sounds good, however at least zulugul and I only act on ban bypasses after we know why the main ACC is banned, if it's spam or something it's clear, but I'd say the best idea is to approach a mod about your main ACC being banned and you'd like to know why since you think you followed the server rules. I don't know how the other mods handle this but I think it's similar

Well, yeah. I remember people with alt accounts usually having some time before getting their alt banned, too. But ban evasion is considered a serious offense, and I didn't want to aggravate it for myself in case I actually broke the rules.

It still seems to me that the best option is to have a mod (or a few) in your friends list, and the second best is to keep an up-to-date list of mods (which is something even Nexters don't seem to do in #🤗discord-team), or to have a few friends who can look it up for you when you get into some trouble. That way you can try reach them yourself.

But in the end, the lack of an appeal process or any guidance is a bit of a pickle. As a member, I don't know what are your expectations on how I should do it. At best, I know the rules fairly well (in which case I know I shouldn't evade a ban). But I still had no idea what to do when I was just plunged into the darkness without any prior warning. Did I take the steps that would be best for my appeal to be handled quickly? Quite clearly I didn't, I had to improvise.

Sure though, one can also just notice mods online and try to befriend one 🙂 Either way, even if updated, it is still not something you could simply copy and save somewhere into notes in case of an unexpected ban. But at least it would allow friends to find active mods there.

Thinking about that recent experience of Gucky's account getting compromised ... I wonder if there could be some last resort command for mods. With some limitations to e.g. disallow one mod to wipe out all other mods. E.g. a self-sacrifice approach where the mod gives up their own role to remove it from a moderator that went rogue (which further limits misuse). This could give the moderators a chance to tackle these issues rather than leaving it up to CMs (who may be offline or harder to reach).

The hack wasn't benign, I think there could be some people clueless enough to join the Discord and contract some malware there / allow a bot to post in their name. However, it was still not a doomsday scenario like a mod (a hacker on their account or just a disgruntled mod) just going completely mad and banning everyone, deleting the history etc. In such a scenario, especially, some last resort mod action would be quite welcome.

Additionally, there could be some emergency action to contact admins (considering a compromised moderator can be a threat to the community). Perhaps it could be tied with that command - when a mod uses a last resort action, a CM is contacted.

I'm not sure what Zulugul tried, but I know it didn't work much against fellow moderator. In general it makes sense that you can't do anything to other mods, as the implications would be quite bad if you could. What I proposed was meant to take care of the trouble when a mod goes rogue / gets their account compromised. In that case, I'm pretty sure Zulugul would temporarily sacrifice his Moderator role to remove yours, just to ensure that if whoever was using your account was not just a spambot, there won't be some mass banning spree or something else that could be very harmful to the server.

Though, if Discord doesn't log bans done via UI in #moderators-activity, it might take some time to recognize anything like that is happening, anyway ... a lot of bad stuff can happen if a moderator's account gets compromised and the hacker doesn't settle for just spamming the server with invites to their own NSFW server (which possibly spreads scam / malware).

Yeah, that was the point - if it happens that some mod gets hacked by someone more malevolent or just becomes completely crazy as a person, that special command would be an option. Contacting a CM may take more than 60 hours if there is some holiday around a weekend - that is more than enough time for someone to ruin the entire server if other mods can do nothing about that. CM will then be able to reinstate the "martyr" as a mod again.

With the rampant spam/scam that CMs are doing absolutely nothing about, some channels' content (in the channels that don't get that much traffic) looks like the screenshot below. Maybe these channels could be restricted for players who already spend at least some time chatting, or straight out removed.

The screenshot is from #adventures, a channel I would love to see prosper, but with most of its traffic looking like this, it might as well just be removed, as any notification that there are new posts mostly just means that there was a spam or scam, MEE6 deleted it and left a message.

Since deleted messages also notify, even MEE6 operating silently wouldn't help (though, if it operated silently, at least less frequented channels wouldn't be totally swamped by MEE6 messages).

I would still prefer for CMs to deal with the spam/scam in some better way, but if you need e.g. level 2 or 5 to access these channels, that would limit the broadcasts. Some smart bot that notices broadcast spams across channels and deletes it without leaving a trace and bans the user would obviously be best, but for that, CMs would have to actually care about this server, which they clearly don't.

Such a bot might just leave a note in #moderators-activity that a spammer / scammer was banned. It would save mods so much effort, save players effort pinging mods ... but that would require CMs to actually do their job. The bots are quite simple and stupid, bots that have counter-measures to these should be readily available. The only reason the scam bots work is that the CMs are frankly incompetent.

Thing is, technically I don't think there is ANY channel for that if you go strictly by the descriptions, although I'd like someone to correct me if I'm wrong.

#💬general describes itself as only being for "in-game" discussions and #😜off-topic and #the-tavern say they aren't for Hero Wars related discussions.

I think the best solution would be to reword the descriptions of #the-tavern and/or #😜off-topic as to be a bit more flexible.
Perhaps add "or Hero Wars discussions which do not belong on any other channel" or something like that to one or both of them.
Or maybe a separate channel for "Humor and non-game-related discussion of Hero Wars." Something like that.

So after talking to @stone coral i got what he actually meant.

What he means is we make some self-obtainable role, for example: "Guild War", "CoW", and "Asgard."
And we make a channel called #🔔reminder. Interested User/Players should select the role for themself.

After that, Moderators/or some special role user should be able to ping the specific role at a specific time.

This ensures that the player does not missout any major in-game event. Let us know what you think about this.

• just live with it
• prevent friend requests entirely
• at least ping them back in #server-level-check (which only has any effect if they are actually people)

Hello @golden glacier , regarding one of your latest comment on starboard (#⭐starboard message) about server suggestions I would suggest limiting people's access to more of the discussions channels (except for ones like #💬general and language channels) and then when they reach level 1 automatically take them to a page where they get to see all the types of channels they can join.

You could do this off of the start, but I think a lot of people will just skip past it and not pay attention (especially if they're stressed out because they joined the discord trying to get help with a bug or account issue), and the benefits of having it once they reach level one is all of these channels would probably get spammed with the various scams and inappropriate invites less.

I think introducing a page like this would be good because while anyone experienced with discord will know how to find the full channels list, I've talked to countless new discord/server members (and even some somewhat-experienced ones) who never realized that a specific channel existed. I think this would also reduce the issue of having new members 'spam' multiple channels with the same question (ex. how do I get past the priests of seymour because I keep timing out) fearing that it will get lost with the number of messages on the bigger channels, they would know about #campaign, and if they don't get a response right away on a more main-stream channel they could send it there and wait for someone willing to address it.

I'd love to here what your thoughts are on this and sorry for being so long and wordy. 😅
