Hmm.. Place the trees and bushes first, then choose the items you want there, place them taking special care of anything that glows if you're making a night scene, plant the flowers, better one-two colors, randomly, make a path on the ground, avoid symmetry and straight angles at all cost😅 At least that's what I do :)

Once you've completed ~20 HHP designs, you'll get the ability to give your current holiday homeowners roommates -- you can do it by going to the existing homeowner and asking them what they think about a roommate, then going back to your beach (etc) and asking them to move in with them

Have you paid off all your home loans? The other larger house exteriors are player house exteriors that are unlocked once you have paid off most of your loans so that may be why you don’t have them unlocked? I’m not sure though honestly but I hope you can get them soon!

I had to buy all the path variations with Nook Miles to unlock them for HHP so maybe houses work the same way?
