@azure forge @viscid jetty Great advice. I do understand what you mean. Invicta actually was designed as more of a tourist destination in mind so it’s really interesting you said that. I am starting a new island and I want to keep what y’all said in mind.

I think the basic island layout itself i am going to keep the same, I am looking into more detailed ways I can decorate the existing area, custom patterns, interesting items I may have missed, etc. not a fan of the fake buildings unless I can make it really legit haha

I did try to address that problem of dead space by placing the pumpkin patch/future farm, homes and campsite up top. I basically wanted to recreate the city feel from New Leaf by grouping things together and I like seeing all the villagers in one space.. they do still end up exploring elsewhere though sometimes, I wish their AI was better for that.

That flower thing is a diy cushion too. You’d need a recipe for that as well as the garden bench and the two fences.

It might be just my obsession with symmetry speaking, but if it is a possibility for you, you could make the cafe area more quadratical, maybe it would look better if the fountain was directly in the middle.

it's not even as full of stuff as I want it to be

the biggest lag comes from too many models
ones that animate probably the worst offenders

I've always wondered, if I create a second alt on my island just to use the yellow tent for aesthetic reasons, can I still move the tent around? Or is it more of a "stays where it's put forever" situation (unless I choose to upgrade to a house of course)? Thanks for the help!

You can't move it. The tent stage is kinda like the pre-game and the game very much nudges you towards getting a house (including money being mailed to you if you take too long, from your mom). The only thing you can do with the tent is pay it off, so if you wanna move it you'd have to remove the alt account with the tent and start over

despite how it looks there's a lot of different places here
though the beaches are undeveloped, and a few spots on land are undeveloped yet, too
even if they allow me to move resident services I don't know if I'd tear it all down
especially with how hard it was to get the rocks in the right place

the initial idea was for downtown to be in a valley, with villager houses wrapping around it on 3 sides on the next level
couldnt do 2 full tiers on both sides since RS was not perfectly center with the island

the backdrop to town hall worked out well, though
just hard to get a good picture of it all

before new leaf the thought of customizing your town was a pipe dream
new leaf was cool for that, though limited yet by older mechanics such as villagers moving where they want to and sometimes destroying your flower gardens because of it

new horizons takes it to the max, and with this DLC you'll even be able to decide what your villager's interiors look like now!

there's close to 400 different villagers you can get on your island, and trying to make each one unique would be a monumental task even for nintendo

Honestly, I feel like bits of new dialogue has been added here and there with updates. Besides, villagers can now pop into your house and invite you. We'll see them on the archipelago using facilities.

that would go a long way towards randomizing villager dialog more
that and basing dialog off of friendship levels
in the gamecube game it took a lot of work to get the cranky villagers to stop being mean to you

the bushes bordering it are in chronological order, of the time they bloom
they work their way from the sides towards the middle when the holly bushes bloom in the snow

I think the way you made a tunnel with terraforming to RS is great! And if you want a small River but don’t want to deal with making the river mouths connect, I would keep the west mouth closed up or turn it into a pond and then make the south one into your actual river

If you mean what I think you mean then you can’t. In order to have your resident services and stuff in different places, you have to restart. If you mean like designing and stuff then you will need to unlock the terraforming thing.

I recently bought a new Switch and a 2nd copy of the game, so I can soft-reset for my ideal island.
I found it... almost.
An east-river island, with Resident Services in about as perfect of a place as it can go.
Redd's dock in A4, the rocky & grassy cliff both in row D, the airport at F4.5, twas basically "perfect".
But I got pears instead of peaches, so my rerolling continues... 😔

@ashen verge biggest advice i can give you when starting out is to have houses and shops spread around the island to get as much good coverage as you can. Don't worry too much about terraforming and just learn to grow with the island (it can be tough). Have a hand full of ideas and see how they can connect
