De rocks r hard to do

There are some ways that make it easier to build a rockgarden.
The one I used: Just finish the rest of your island first and therefore fill it naturally with a lot of items and plants. A rock cannot spawn directly next to a item, so that really helps with controlling where they spawn. However, they can spawn directly next to a flower or a weed. Once you know in what area you want to put the rockgarden, plant a big flower garden there and only leave the spaces blank where the rocks shall spawn!

My forest/campsite area! This is probably the most finished area so far lol. Basically, the idea here was to include as much vegetation as possible. And to make it seem like mushrooms and pumpkins have overtaken it. What do you guys think. Give me some honest opinions, please. If you want, I can provide some more screenshots too. These are only some of the places of interest. Though the rest of it is mostly just more flowers

Also, I'm currently trying to find another place for my duck pond. But so far, no luck.

It looks absolutely stunning! So bright and colourful, while still maintaining a "spooky, halloween-y" vibe!
Only idea I would have for the duck pond (it already looks great tho:) You could add multiple small islands to the pond where you put little ducks on to make it seem like they're swimming around, or add a few other ducks (and other items) next to the pond. Weeds framing the pond, to simulate Waterplants and reeds, could also look great!

I made a better collage of my small "village". Every villager got a small yard, and the campsite is right in the middle.
My two last, favourite villagers got seperate homes elsewhere on the island.
Any type of flower, tree and fencing would look good, I think.

I know how you feel. But to help ease the suffering I made a blank version of my map via the tracing option, and loaded it into ibispaint (any art program that has layers should do) and just been testing out placement of areas I know I want. I have like 12 different saves so far but it's sometimes nice to take a fresh try

Example, trying to use a museum as a neighbourhood center. It's utter choas but I promise it makes sense to me 😂

No instructions needed, there is a island planner tool online to help for grid designing of your island and a ton of inspo and tutorials. You should find which over all theme you want. Be it colours or design elements. I tend to browse around and see what others have came up with, especially for clever use of items and decor that I wouldn't normally touch. I use a grid version of my map then draw over it (colour code and save items for each area and the placement of them) then you get to play the fun game of "how to make this flow together"

Plant flowers, put down outdoor furniture, clean up an items lying around or weeds that have grown... do that for a bit and you should be at 3 stars in no time! Also, Isabelle always tells you things to improve to get a better rating... if you listen to her advice you’ll get there in no time!

Very natural, forest-y, park-like or cottagecore islands work nice all year round since you can see how the nature changes with the seasons.
A tropical island could still look amazing any season, even when it snows.
Do you mind showing a few pictures or ideas of what you worked on so far or what you wanted to plan?
It is not worth it throwing away a theme because of the seasons.

I designed my island with this "method":
At first, design the area around your Service Center, since it can't be moved around. I put a big River all around it, others use fencing or flowers... Also, how far away is your Airport from the Service Center? Do you want to connect them through paths? It helps putting straight paths between everything, even when you plan not to have any paths- You can just delete them afterwards. It helps to put your island in order.
For items, just use all items that make you happy. Don't force yourself to a theme that you don't completely like.
It also helps to first plan around all the necessary things before making actual builds: Do you want a flower garden to harvest Flowers for DiYs? Do you need a small Rock Garden to easily farm rocks? Do you need an Orchard or Pumpkin Fields? What also helps: Make up a small lore about your island. Since when did it exist? Who built it? What is its purpose (Town? City? Resort? Temple? Company? Farm?)?

Try designing one part at a time. Start with Nooks, then Ables, then the Museum, the orchard, etc.

Break it into little tasks

I was unable to use the island designer to, I basically just... Began? I didn't have a plan when starting, and I think it turned out alright in the end. Is there a particular item that you like? What flowers do you love? Is there a game or a book that you enjoy that you could reference in your island somehow?
(I like Professor Layton, and I adopted the Colour Scheme Brown-Gold by planting Gold Roses on brown dirt, for example)

It also helps to visit a lot of Dream Islands and make screenshots of all Design Choices you really like.

Hi guys, I have a question. So there's this 1 part of my island on its left side, whenever I travel there it causes my switch to lag. But when I travel to other parts of my island I don't experience any lag. What could be the problem? Could it be the amount of the furniture?

On the area that causes lag, I built a a food market where the villagers houses are on the side so it looks like a busy food market. Then the food market leads to this bridge where there's a waterfall over a cliff. Down to the left and right side of the bridge is a bath house area. Not knowing what I was doing, I picked a layout that is also super close and off center. I only have 4 spots between the airport and RS. I started with fencing, bushes and flowers for a town feel, but didn’t like that and took it out. I tried terraforming with cliffs but all that did was block the view of RS. I wound up adding water and a bridge. I am going with natural so it seems to fit for now. Pics of current set up. Maybe it helps—the lack of space makes it difficult.

I also tried cliffs and it didn't look like it fit. My RS looks exactly the same but on the right side too. I had fencing infront of the RS and a small pond at the entrance before, but it didn't look right with the way my RS is positioned. Ur welcome. FYI in my setup the river in front can only be 3 spaces if you want a walkway. It’s big enough to have fish spawn so that’s good. On the left it joins with a river I have going north-south then on the right I did a single level cliff with waterfall which I like. The waterfall cliff isn’t so big that it blocks things. I tried to make a diagonal bridge but just couldn’t make it right—kinda figured it had a lot to do with the space. I like how it worked out. It’s staying for awhile.

My island is inspired by Studio Ghibli movies (Japanese animated movies). For my beach I've already made 3 picnic areas lol and 1 fish market. Now I don't know what else to decorate on the beach that would match the theme.

I finished off Ponyo's house overlooking the beach and the ocean. I don't really know how to make boats in acnh using furniture. Their house yard is fully decorated but it's not part of the beach sand area. And yes I only have one sand castle on the beach next to their house 😂 I'm not great with ideas so I try replicating what I see on the movies.

I feel you, and most of the time I'm actually the same. What I usually do is visit dream addresses and look for inspiration. Sometimes if pictures overwhelm me, I just pick out an area from a dream and then figure out if it'll fit my theme. That's how I go about it

I like to start with a clean slate. Move the villager houses to the beach or corner of the island and flatten all the land then download all the textures/patterns. Then I look at one picture and try my best to recreate it. From that picture I work my way out.

So I can't, personally, find a workable way for 3 levels. But I doubt they will add a reason to need 3 levels now since that would mean adding new creatures. I'm debating adding the empty space (under the campsite) into a play/education area which can doubt as a item dump for dream address. Any other ideas? Also for my shop area I'm thinking just making fake shops that go well with nooks and ables (ables, kicks, shampoodle, post office, nooks) And yes the cafe will be fake with outdoor seating, ice cream van parked near and leads to a beach side bbq/drink bar. I'm still debating space fillers but it will most likely be picnic areas or nature things. (also my house is going to have a fake back yard hence the space around it, front will lead to a star gazing spot)

@grand smelt yeah it's way funky, I used ibispaint to test it since they have some grid lines showing and lined it up, and I used the mirror tool as I thought they aimed for the symmetry? It's kinda iffy.
