I need some help with a decision. Should I place a blacksmith in the area to the left of nook’s cranny (right of the first photo. I’d rearrange the stalls currently there too)
Or should I place it by the river across from Able’s in the second photo? The second one has more room but the first one is more cozy and more like a market. I don’t know what to do with this space in the second photo otherwise though besides fill it with a random wall.

TLDR: First photo is more realistic but harder to work with, second photo is easier but may not get the feel I like.

Especially in terms of realism of the location. I wouldn’t have a smith outside a clothing shop but it’s the more obvious spot to put it.

It makes more sense to put the blacksmith by nooks rather than ables. As for what to put in front of ables, maybe some kind of park or sitting area. A stables will be cool to see tho and seems to fit your vibe

Thank you for the advice! I think I’m leaning towards by nook’s too. Might even move the whole nook’s over a tile or two.

And the stables you mentioned will probably show up by a villager house I’m working on below my farm. I’m planning to move in Shep to be the animal farmer of the island (medieval themed)

@eternal geyser , personally I'd throw in some bird baths and bird houses, maybe a bench, a log, or garden lantern if you get your hands on them. I like throwing garden lanterns randomly around my naturey areas and it does a good job. You have a good set up for breeding flowers so maybe rearrange as you get more colors! c:

Of course @eternal geyser ! I'm keeping my first island and it's so hard trying to fix it up lol, I actually miss my un touched island. Just experiment with items and colors you like, find what works for you. My greatest advice: take your time and don't feel pressured to do something a certain way, do what you like and what feels right!

If I remember correctly, you'll only be able to buy one color from your shop and need the Festivale event to change the color of the item

hmmm depending on how close you want your villagers to be you could go something like this. Adding a little farm close to them here and there isn't bad like they each could have little jobs (gardener, tree grower, pumpkins, etc.). You could consider a neighborhood. Personally, I like keeping my villagers more sporadic.

Throwing this out there, I would add on a dance studio with a wall lined with mirrors and a bar(made on a simple panel) with a light pink wood floor. The second idea is a lockerroom and showers, and a yoga attatchment(add a few pink tvs around and pink radio etc)Hope this helps!

Hey guys! I came looking for a little help. This is the design I plan for my island, but recently I wanted to have a narrow valley that Leeds to Redds beach, but I feel like if I terraformed it that way, it would make the residential area look weird. Should I switch the planes of the residential area and the mountain?

It looks like you have a bridge that kinds heads in the direction of the beach already. Seems like you could make a path and not have to go near the residential area at all

Well if I used that bridge, I wouldn’t be able to make the valley the way I want it. I wanted it to be where the path to the beach is on the bottom level and there are parts to either side of the path that are raised 2 levels

I would use things to make the areas between buildings look like cluttered alleyways. Stuff like scattered papers customized to look like manga and vending machines and customized stalls with cute items on them. Heck even trash bags customized to blue or yellow work for pastel citycore. Just know your roads might end up kinda wide in some places

Or maybe put down some benches. On the sides separated by bushes, flowers, or fences. Both the pastel wooden block bench and the pink and blue public bench work great here

You cannot move resident services, your airport, your secret beach (or any beaches for that matter), your river mouths, or your peninsula. Take these into consideration when choosing a layout.

After that you can essentially place what you want to place where. If you ever want to “flatten” your island, it’s just 50k bells per building to move. Happy island designer for the desktop is great for planning!

I’m a bit late, but for mine I just sort of winged it but with a few things in mind:
Use the natural/original land generation to your advantage. Don’t destroy that cliff, figure out how you can use it in a cool way and let it inspire your ideas.
I find that the best way to start a theme/island is to think like the theme/island. In terms of terraforming. If that made any sense.

Working with the landscape will help you get ideas and stuff. Nobody thinks of a cliff top cafe without first seeing the cliff and imagining it there, for example.

Id say do a mirror image. Arrange the four villager homes in the same spots only mirror image of the left round village. Then put your house on the top part, which should be on top left of your new village. I hope it makes sense. Otherwise i will have to draw it 🤣

Well what I did was I looked at a bunch of inspiration and went on a website to kind of map out big places of what I want. After, I printed it out and scribbled a bunch of ideas and areas in it, then remade it in the website. That’s how I made the first image. Then I just try my best to recreate it in my acnh island. what i did to start my island was to choose a general theme and try and get items surrounding the theme i chose (ex. jungle theme? lotta plants and colorful flowers) and watched a few terraforming tutorials online on youtube to get the hang of things! also there is no rush to design your island, you can work on it whenever you please!!
