I wouldn’t build stairs first. They cost money and time and are just annoying when planning.

I start by finding some campsite ideas (via here, Google, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, etc)

Use that as a guide and start your layout, cliffs, rivers, paths, etc

I generally use a path of some sort to work out where the campsite will sit. Then plan around that. See if it works for you.

THEN start adding in the actual campsite & stairs.

Ok so I have a lot of stuff around my island with paths and everything and it looks quite nice, except I just unlocked terraforming and now want to really take things to the next level. I had no idea that unlocking path terraforming was a thing, and now I'm a little overwhelmed cause I really like the possibilities with rounding paths and such (but that will mean erasing all the paths I've spent a long time putting down) I also have no idea whether to choose stone or brick as my main path. Any tips? I hope this is the right channel to be asking this

when you go to save the game right when the words pop up you go to the home screen and change the time. You dont even have to shut off the game. Makes it much faster

This was from my friends island of how he used trees to make a diagonal walkway, but stunting them will look cool too. You plant a fruit tree either behind or next to the tree at the stage you want it to stop growing (depending on your theme you could also customize some paper lanterns instead of bamboo lamps)

@heady solstice You could do a neighborhood for your villagers if you want. Make a shopping district so visiting able’s sisters and nook’s cranny is easier for visitors to locate where they are. Making a rock garden is helpful in locating all of your rocks.

I'd definitely commit more land space for that if i were you, try making the sunken areas a bit bigger so you have potential for waterfalls / more trees, and try doubling the bridge so its two wide since with just one skinny piece of land it looks a bit more awkward. I'd definitely get some reference of sunken areas as well that have water so you can see how some people decorate it to make it seem less bare and empty

Honestly it’s fine if fencing is uneven, just accessorize a lot where the fences are and you shouldn’t have a problem. A lot of my fences are uneven because I’m too lazy to measure and count but it’s not noticeable cause of how much I accessorize my streets

Also it isn’t uneven but if it’s bothering you a lot you can definitely change up the layout. Asymmetrical fencing also works if you are willing to decorate. I have Fauna’s house with uneven fencing (shorter on left side) but it’s hard to tell because the decor distracts you from it

Lol it's easier when you design your island while thinking about how good it looks in pictures. I started off only designing based on what looks good in person, but now I also think a lot about how it would look in a picture, and where I should make the "picture-taking spot."

I've played about 1600-1700 hours since launch, I check ACNH Reddit and Twitter everyday, and I think that amount of experience and seeing how others design their islands has helped me a lot. When I look at things I was proud of back in May or June, they seem "lame" and not very unique to me now, so I've learned a lot in that time 🙂
